JonathanT (Co-DM) - A new member joins
Wednesday December 26th, 2012 10:32:09 PM

The new member is taken in with pleasant introductions. Soon all are over the magical wall of force, climbing the stone obelisk, the carved animal heads in the stone offering easy enough places to grip and climb.

The other 'pen' that is adjacent to the swamp is rolling hills with flower patches, there does not seem to be any animal tracks as you continue to make your way towards what seems to be the center, that is, the direction the flying creatures had taken.

A day's travel here is pleasant despite the rolling hills providing plenty of cover for dangerous creatures, none are seen. Not even tracks. A dissappointment perhaps?

Evening looms again when the group approaches another row of obelisks cutting their path. On the other side the terrain seems rather flat. A rough road is seen heading away. The road is made of cut stone and wide enough for two carts side-by side. Grasses grow up between the rectangular stones and in places bushes hang over into the road.

The road appears to just start a dozen feet away from the wall.

The six and a half foot tall human greets the newcomer with a simple "Welcome to the wilds. Names Brom. Glad ta have ya aboard."

"Ha! We don't need a group name. We're Woldian League. Everyone knows who we are. I think that's enough."

Brom is glad to see that they are finally getting somewhere with the spotting of the road.

The passage through the swampy pen is quiet. The complete lack of animals is also very odd. Odd, and suspicious. Perhaps, this is the demesnes of the meat eating plants of which she has heard. As she and the League Adventurers continue across the swampy ground, Harvest Moon draws upon what she knows of such plants, and examines the land for traces that such creatures might leave. It would be very interesting to capture their seeds or cuttings and attempt to grow one once they have returned to Rum.

At the edge of the swampy pen is the first sign of peoples aside from the Magic Fence. However, this road is ill kempt. It shows little sign of having been used by peoples for some time. Harvest Moon notes the direction of the road and compares it to the direction which they have been following, the direction in which the Wolf Eagles had been heading. Do they go to the same place?

"I think that we should camp this night on the other side of the fence," says Harvest Moon, a reference to the waning light of day and the rise of night. "I think that plant creatures may live in this swampy pen," she adds as she begins to climb one of the animal-carved fence post once again. "The land on the other side is flat. We will likely see anything that approaches. I will climb to the top of this Fence Pole and see what I might see."

Upon reaching the top of the pole, Harvest Moon puts a hand to shade her eyes. The dim light of evening means little to her elf-born eyes. She gazes off across the flat land into which the road leads. Could they finally meet the masters of these pens here? And will they truly be the Beastlords. If so, they would have much to answer for.

Rest and Road (co-DM SteveK)
Thursday December 27th, 2012 10:56:56 AM

Introductions and adjustments continue in the WLA Adventurers. Hert has arrived with impeccable credentials and is quickly welcomed as a long-lost cousin into the very diverse group.

Hert focuses his attention on the obelisks, but he learns only what the others have seen previously. The stone obelisk is carved all over in totemic animals and animal combinations. The others will tell Hert that it is in the same style as a hidden Valley the group discovered several weeks ago. And from the indigenous Catfolk of the Valley, the heroes learned the carvings were made by the BeastLords. The BeastLords seem to be a loose cult who seek to 'improve' animals by turning them into ever more powerful monsters. And, it seems, the BeastLords do not like the establishment of Rum on the southern tip of this island.

Harvest is over the obelisk like a squirrel, and urgently suggests to camp the night near the road instead of the swamp. While she did not find evidence of any magical or carnivorous plant life, the half-elf girl did encounter the old, old remains of a reptilian nest. It appears that this area hasn't been used in a very long time.

She also sees that the road does indeed follow the flight of the Wolf-Eagles. There almost HAS to be something at the center of these pens!

With the choice of sleeping in a swamp or a grassy area, it's not much of a choice for humans, elf, half-elf, gnomes, and minotaur. The camp is established, guard schedule done, dinner cooked, eaten, and cleaned, and the night passes without incident.

Day breaks, a strong mist with a salty taste coming off the ocean nearby. It is difficult to see more than 30 feet in any direction, only the dim light of the sun's orb.

Peza tries to contact Captain Sal Theringer as normal, but there is no answer in the Stone. It seems no one is near the stone this morning to make contact.

She crouches in the mist. After the morning commune. After the break of fast. After the failure to speak with Captain Sal Theringer through the Telestone.

"In the mist, our ears must be our guides," she says to her friends, the other League Adventurers. She turns her slanted elf-born eyes to the noisy ones. The arrival of yesterday, Hert of Gargul, he, particularly, would be difficult.

"Perhaps some of us should go ahead. I. Edson Kazil. Peza. We can go quietly. We can be your eyes. We will go one hundered paces ahead, walk very softly and listen very carefully. We might speak to you through the whisper magic of Gerox Shale. You may not see us, but Brom can follow us by our trail."

OoC: I don't believe that you need line of sight to use the Message spell. You need line of sight to cast the initial spell. But, after that, you don't even need line of effect. There are, however, certain things that will block it, but none of which seem to be present here.

You can whisper messages and receive whispered replies. Those nearby can hear these messages with a DC 25 Perception check. You point your finger at each creature you want to receive the message. When you whisper, the whispered message is audible to all targeted creatures within range. Magical silence, 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal (or a thin sheet of lead), or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks the spell. The message does not have to travel in a straight line. It can circumvent a barrier if there is an open path between you and the subject, and the path's entire length lies within the spell's range. The creatures that receive the message can whisper a reply that you hear. The spell transmits sound, not meaning; it doesn't transcend language barriers. To speak a message, you must mouth the words and whisper.

Harvest suggests that she, Peza, and Edzel scout ahead of the moving team.

Barratore thinks only two are needed and stows his bow. The fog has made melee the order of the morning.

Gerox, however, sets up all three; Harvest, Peza, and Edzel; with a Message spell. With the spell, each of the three will be able to send a short message back to Gerox as long as they stay within the spell range. In effect, the scouting team can communicate three times!

Even though the three scouts are out of sight of the main body, the scouts are easily able to keep within hearing distance of the clanking heroes, and so ensuring they are within the spells distance.

Thus prepared, the WLA Adventurers begin walking the Road.
...........

After an hour, the scouts are able to increase thier distance because the fog is thinning. The blurry disk of the sun is slowly eliminating the fog, but not before the group gets to the end of the road.

Rising before the scouting group is a large white stone building. There are no visible windows, but in front of the scouting group are two massive rusted iron doors that would let large waggons to move through.

Harvest Moon can feel the growl ticking in her throat. She feels this even as she reports back to Gerox Shale through the whisper magic of his Message spell. This is a queer and mysterious place. There are no windows to let in light. This is not a home. This is a wall. It is as the Pyramid if the long dead Beastlord Ericko. It is closed from things.

The eyes of Harvest Moon rake the heights of this large white stone building to spy a place where creatures such as the Wolf Eagles might alight or roost. Then, "I will search the ground for recent passage," she says in a low voice to Peza and Edson Kazil. "I think that the door must be looked to as well."

Barratore was glad the three did not encounter any trouble, but still thought they were too far ahead. With Edson seeming to find every loose rock to kick and every dry branch to snap, he was also a bit put off with the reasoning of Harvest and Peza to begin with. A lack of real armor did not exclude someone from the category of loud.

Arriving at the structure, Barratore stares at it for a bit. There would be a long conversation, loads of opinions and suggestions, perhaps some odd other entrance attempt and then he and Brom would kick in the doors and battle the guardians. Harvest Moon looks over the rooftop of the large white stone building. The walls are smooth and rise 35 feet to a flat roof; it cannot be climbed. The building is so wide that she can only see the edge of the roof, but there is no tell-tale signs of habitation up there. The Wolf Eagles may be further to the center or not there at all. Turning her focus to the road and sees that there has been passage along the road, but not for over a week.

Hert stands, completely covered by his cloak, and seeks more information on what the group is doing.

Peza appraoches the gates and sees that while the gates appear rusted, the hinges are well taken care of with no rust and a goodly ammount of grease.

Gerox keeps the information flowing and leads the trail group up to the building and the scouting group. He suggests looking for a secondary entrance. A quick glance down the flanks of the building reveals there is no doors on either of them.

Barratore informs everyone that "Brom and I brought keys", while bulging his massive muscles. The minotaur gets ready, confident that there will be lots of maneuvering before they go in the front doors anyways.

Edson stares at the massive doors. He moves forward with the others, searching the door for any secret compartments, or traps. The sneaky rogue stops Peza from stepping on a thin wire stretched across the door, a classic early warning system of some sort! Classic, and easily bypassed as long as someone was looking for it, that is! A couple sticks in the ground to wrap wires and then a snip, snip, and the door no longer has any seen traps!
.....................

And not a moment too soon, for the doors are swinging open! The building is dark within, which may be why the two men walking out are blinking owlishly. They wear a strange knee-length coat of white with several pockets over everyday working clothes. Both are holding long leather leashes that go back into the darkness. It is quite clear from the reactions of the men who emerge from the White Wall, that they mistake us for others. This is an advantage. But it will be short lived. "Who are you that you speak to us with such words!" The bold challenge comes suddenly to Harvest Moon, and she speaks it without thought. Her voice sounds good to her own ear, though. Her voice sounds convincing and commanding. It sounds as though it might intimidate the unwary.

The huge crab at the end of the pair of leashes would be formidable. Best, perhaps, to see whether it might be controlled, and how this might be done.

"We wish to see it now. Show it to us. Demonstrate your control," commands Harvest Moon.

Fools! They have demonstrated their control. No control at all. What place is this in which people create such dangers while knowing so little about them? (And how is it that they placed a leash upon such a dangerous creature in the first place?)

So many things to know, and they all tickle the curiosity of Harvest Moon. But, at this moment, survival is paramount. And, unlike the two foolish men, she has seen enough to hold a great respect for the danger of this ... Scorpion Snake. Harvest Moon spares but a moment to gaze about within the open doors, determining that the only threats left alive are limited to the single great Scorpion Snake. Then she follows Peza.

"Yes, come away, Edson Kazil!" Harvest Moon echoes the sentiments of her friend Peza. "I may call upon the Entangling grasses, and you would not wish to be caught within."

After quickly eyeing the distances and the vegetation growing in the area that fronts the iron doors, Harvest Moon casts another spell. With a flick of her wrist, a ball of flame appears within her palm, and she throws the burning ball at the Scorpion Snake. The fire strikes the Scorpion Snake squarely upon its carapace, blackening a spot upon the hard chitin of its defenses.

Finally something to fight. Is what's going through the barbarian's mind. It has been too quiet in his mind, and he missed the rush of combat.

Brom moves in on the beast, using his acrobatic skills to attempt to avoid any lashings by the snake heads (acrobatic dc25). Once inside the beast's reach, Brom let's his rage take hold while he brings his sword to bear on the snake-beast.

If Brom can't do all that, then he will move up and save the attack for next round. Let me know.

The white wall of the stone warehouse is 35 feet high and nearly 60 feet long. The Iron Doors are 20 feet high and 20 feet wide, right now is completely filled by the Snake-Scorpion. The stone paved road is also 20 feet wide with grasses sticking out of the pavings growing to almost 2 feet in height. Off the roadway is all 2 foot high grasses spreading almost 100 feet away.

The Snake-Scorpion is 10 feet out of the doorway.

Peza, Harvest, and Edson are 10 feet away from the Snake-Scorpion.

All the others are 10 feet away from the Scout group (20 feet away from the Snake Scorpion).

......................

Gerox skids to a halt once the giant freaky scorpion is sighted and causes a bright green ray lancing into the snake scorpion weakening it severely! (fails Fort DC) (Gerox is 20 feet away from the S_S)

Edson doesn't have time to congratulate himself about the trap. He immediately brings out his bow and shoots the scorpion. Even though the elf lets himself be vulnerable to the long-necked Snake-Scorpion, it does not use the obvious opportunity to attack the bowman. (Edson is 10 feet away from the S_S)

Peza turns to Edson urging everyone to get behind the fighters and then uses her own advice, running and skidding behind Barratore while loading her crossbow; ready to fire. (Peza is 25 feet from the S_S)

Hert watches the scorpion killing the men, and himself prepares for battle. Putting himself on line with Barratore and Brom, he casts a spell, giving everyone Gargul's blessing. (As Brom charged the S_S, DM moves Hert to flank Brom and is now 5 feet from the S_S)

Harvest Moon despairs at the men who had so little control on the monster, but the leashes and how docile it was when the men were holding them she wonders... Not important now. The half-elven girl takes a look to verify there is no one else waiting in the shadows, only 2 more men in white coats running into the darkness, and then she also runs behind the fighters. Concentrating on the monster, she casts a spell, and a bit of fire singes its carapace nicely! (Harvest is 25 feet from the S_S)

Brom rejoices in finally having something to fight! Hs battlerage takes the barbarian and his adroitly dodges up to the S_S, sinking his sword into the snake-beast's weaving neck! (Brom is 5 feet from the S_S)
....................

The Transmogrified Scorpion screams like a tea kettle, and rushes forward to snap and bite and rend!

It moves 10 feet forward, freeing its tail from the confines of the warehouse. In doing so, the Huge monster bats aside and plows over Brom, Edson, and Hert who are all in the way of this unstoppable armored form. None of the three heroes have a chance to avoid, and Brom and Hert are both knocked to the ground; prone! (Improved Overrun; CMB 26 vs Brom - prone; CMB 12 vs Edson - failed; CMB 23 vs Hert - prone)

Its very long snake heads weave dangerously, and any hero who looks is certain that the S_S will take advantage of the next couple of opportunites!

It is a bad situation, with both Brom and Hert lying upon the ground beneath the many heads of the Scorpion Snake. Something must be done.

Harvest Moon calls upon a blessing in preparation to face the extreme danger that she contemplates. She calls too, upon the same judgement that she had felt when fighting the Great Hyenas, and she feels it come, bolstering her protection.

"HAI-OH!!!" Harvest Moon rushes at a diagonal to the white wall of the building, crossing beneath the towering reach of the Scorpion Snake. "TURN TO ME! TURN TO ME!" she cries. She skids to a halt just out of reach and whips around to face the gigantic creature. Her teeth are bared. Her stance is braced for its coming.

"No..." whispers Hert as he discovers that one of the snake heads is looking at him. Than he hears Harvest Moon's battlecry and takes action. First, he raises. Doing so, he exposes his side to the enemy, but he has no other choice - he has to do it sometime. Next, he draws his sword - he is now ready to fight. He shields himself and shouts a chant at the scorpion. Oddly though, it doesn't have any effect.

Harvest Moon calls upon a blessing in preparation to face the extreme danger that she contemplates. "HAI-OH!!!", the girl calls, and then rushes to the wall of the building, crossing beneath the towering reach of the Scorpion Snake and daring it to strike. The head whips around and with her preparations and Gerox' earlier Ray of Enfeeblement, Harvest is missed by the deadly fangs! (AOO AC 23-2 = 21 miss! She runs to the wall, flush with how very close the monster got.

Hert blinks vigorously and shakes his head, and, hearing Harvest's sacrifice, takes his own action. The cleric of Gargul stands, and a huge claw lashes down and skittering across the heavily armored cleric's shield! (AOO AC 19 miss!) Hert draws his sword, ready to fight!

Peza ranges a special bolt for the monster's tail, and the blessings of Hert see it fly true! Not only does she score several of the tail-heads, but the bolt bursts into sticky strands that hinder the tail. The snake heads hiss in frustration!

Barratore recovers from his shock upon seeing the massive and hideous abomination and means to give the creature another target to worry about. The great minotaur issues his own roar and steps forward into a mighty swing. The Snake Scorpion is unable to turn and meet Barratore's attack, the movements of Harvest and Hert already keeping its focus, and allows the minotaur an unimpeded target to crash through the armored carapace!

Gerox looks on in awe at the bravery of his companions. The little gnome is not ready to be a target himself, and moves further back before launching a magic missile spell at the beast!

Brom exclaims as the beast plows into him, knocking him down. " Brom will crush you!" he shouts as he stands to bash the creature!

Edson thanks the gods that he was able to avoid the monster's charge, and hastily lets fly another arrow that is unable to pierce the Snake Scorpion's armor.

But the barabarian does not get his chance. The rogue's arrow was unneeded...barely. Pierced by sword and arrow and spell, the monster struggles to continue the battle, but slowly sinks to the ground (at -2 hp). A wheezing whistle says that the monster is still alive, but another concentration of the swords of Hert, Barratore, and Brom ensures the monstrosity will never rise again. By the time the heroes have killed the Transmogrified Scorpion, the warehouse is desterted. The two men in white coats have only just stopped twitching, dead by the poison.

There is evidence of a hasty retreat, but not so hasty as to have left much evidence behind. Another machine, similar to the contraption of wires and bars and jewels that the heroes found in Ericko's pyramid is here as well, but it is obviously recently wrecked beyond hope of repair. A charred body with a necklace in its hand gives mute testimony on how the machine was destroyed.

Near the destroyed Transmogrifier, there is an area that has three leashes and 2 golden arm bands. They are unmagical, but DC Arcana 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { can surmise that the arm bands and leashes are one of two material components to control spells. And the other material component is the life which contains the band or leash. This is how the BeastLords of Faramenth have controlled their monsters.}

The 2 golden armbands are worth a total of 1,000gp

In one office, a blasted desk and files show (DC Spellcraft 18:Highlight to display spoiler: { Fireball}) that someone burned most everything. A partial piece of parchment is an invoice for a Transmogrified Scorpion for the equivalent amount of 25,000 gold. The reciever is burned out, but the parchment is signed "Faramenth". The heroes will remember that Faramenth was the name of the dead BeastLord Ericko's friend the group found in the Catfolk Pyramid.

Gerox is a bit shocked at how fast the battle occured and how well they were starting to work as a team. He moves forward to examine the body and the work area. He quickly deduces the what was going on and says, "This is interesting. The bands and leashes are some sort of component in a spell to control these beasts. I am not sure how they work but we should bring them back to the fixers for study." (check of 16 on arcana)

Gerox scoops up the bands and leashes and says, "Of course the raw materials are valuable and we should only loan them or sell them to the fixers. Gotta cover the travel expenses and all.

Gerox deeper in the lab, bends and fingers some soot. "Definitely a fireball spell. I have done a lot of study on this one and look forward to the day I can fling them around! (dc check 24) It is interesting that our dead wraith was ordering guardians? The beastlords obviously work together in some loose fashion.:

He goes and stands by Harvest and points at the scorpion and says, "I wonder if you could milk some of the poison out of that thing. I would bet it would be useful and the apolocaries would pay for it."

DMSteveK: Correction to an assumption here. Ericko was the undead BeastLord in the Pyramid. The spirit had raved to the heroes about his only friend, Faramenth, who kept his labs near Landing Beach. And here is a recently signed invoice with the signature "Faramenth" in a lab near a beach.

It is the same name. Is it the same person? Is it the charred body? I am certain that the heroes can only speculate! :-)

"Yip!" The leap of Harvest Moon is accompanied by a feral grin. Her rush follows just behind the fall of the Scorpion Snake to the blade of Barratore Steelwind. She clambers onto the creatures hard chitinous back even as its life is extinguished by the blades of the others. There then comes to her something in the mere touching of the Scorpion Snake. Her touch brings a knowing of things she had never imagined before, a knowing of the creature's ways and manners. Harvest Moon is moved to stillness by this queer new feeling, this magically inspired knowledge. She remains crouched upon the back of the Scorpion Snake, motionless save for her hands that rove the smooth hard shell of its back.

From afar she hears the voice of Gerox Shale. And, when she looks up, she realizes that she does not know how much time has passed. The gnome, Gerox Shale is speaking of the arm bands and the leashes. He says they must necessarily be components of a single spell. "The third part of the spell," adds Harvest Moon, "is a life. Possibly, here it was the life of the Scorpion Snake itself."

"I think that you are right. We should bring these things back for study. With the knowing of their magics, we too may be able to control such dangerous beasts and make them tame."

It is very interesting to observe the manner in which Gerox Shale finds the knowing of the spell of Fireball. He only touches the ashes. Perhaps the gnome too can know things with only a touch. She would have to observe him more keenly in the future. He is often lacking in seriousness, but there may be many things that she might learn from him.

At Gerox Shale's request to milk poison, Harvest Moon remembers the efforts of the dwarf Arno to do the same to the Snake Vulture. He had accidentally poisoned himself with an unfortunate scratch. To avoid such a fate, Harvest Moon proceeds with care, first making an exhaustive search through the ruins of the white building for a suitable and safe vessel in which to hold the poison. And, second, to extract the poison from the snake heads with special care.

Applying poison to a weapon or single piece of ammunition is a standard action. This does not consume the dose of poison. Whenever a character attacks with a poisoned weapon, if the attack roll results in a natural 1, he exposes himself to the poison. When Hert looks around, he notices that everybody is onto something, examining the site or the fallen beast. Instead of joining them, however, he rushes to the white-coated men. First, he checks if any of them is alive, but the poison was too quick for Hert to have any chance to help them. Hert sighs. He drags their bodies out of the warehouse. Making a rag from one of the men's cloaks and using water from his waterskin, he wipes their faces and cleans their wounds a bit. He carries the charred body from the warehouse and places it near them. Finally, he chants a short quiet prayer over each of the bodies.

"I think that there are many things that you must know before you judge ... " Harvest Moon hesitates before addressing the cleric of Gargul. One would think that she would have become accustomed to peoples who bore only one name after living with Brom these past months. But it is still someone uncomfortable to her to address others with such lack of formality. The only person to with this discomfort has disappeared has been her friend Peza. "There are many things of which you must know, Hert," she says.

"We strongly suspect that this is a place of a people who we call the Beastlords. They have sent their creatures to attack us in Rum before. The Wolf Eagles that we saw fly to this place attacked us in Rum. I think that they are our enemies. Though, maybe not all of them are out enemies."

"These men here, the dead ones upon the ground, they loosed the Scorpion Snake upon us. The leashes. The bands. They controlled the Scorpion Snake, and held it tame. But the men unleashed it. I cannot think but that these men wished the Scorpion Snake to slay us. When they did this, they too became our enemies as much as if they had attacked us with sword or spell. These men may deserve the grace of the Gray God. But our disturbing of them was not the cause of their deaths. No more so than it is the fault of the tree for falling and crushing the man who has chopped it down."

"Here, Gerox Shale." Harvest Moon offers the poison to the gnome who requested it. "I think that you are right Peza. We should go to the beach to see who it is that these men were to meet. It is there, I suspect, that we may find the one named Faramenth."

Harvest Moon grins ferally and touches the dead Snake-Scorpion. Something stirs and she almost learns something of the animal just by touching the chitinous armor, but it is fleeting and then gone. Hert sighs and sheathes his sword, then rushes to the white-coated men. His assumption is correct, the poison killed them both. And so the cleric prepares the fallen to meet Gargul, laying them out and providing a last prayer. At Gerox' suggestion, he gingerly checks for clues in their pockets, but it seems that their treasure must be elsewhere, for they are empty-handed.

Peza thinks the White Coats were in the process of making a delivery at the beach ... anybody think we should check that out ?? The sentiment is echoed by Harvest.

Investigating around the outside reveals that there used to be other buildings in the area, but the compound slowly shrunk until only the main building has been occupied for any length of time. It appears that this Zoological collection of BeastLords was on its last legs, and the WLA heroes gave it the necessary push to completely topple this particular group.

There is little to do than to return to the beach. The heroes arrive in the mid day to an empty beach. Where "Faramenth" or the reputed 'buyers' could be is unknown; dead, fled, or never was to begin with.

Out in the bay, the heroes can spy the Leaper, the ship of Scully's Heroes just dropping anchor in the bay. It is over, this particular BeastLord Zoological Society is ruined. And it is as easy as 2 weeks of sailing to get back to RUM. What has changed in 2+ months of intense work? And the arrival of Second Fleet? The future is bright and set for change...

Ooc: Friends, it has been a distinct pleasure being your co-DM for the last 18 months. I have really enjoyed a fresh campaign and happy to have played with each of you. Zack and/or Ian will begin posting on Monday with a new module. The only hint I will give is that the WLA heroes will need to freshen up their sea-legs...

As the druids are wont to say:
Merry meet, merry part, and merry meet again!

Edson smiles when the compartment pushes in, and stares at the value inside. Part of him contemplates pocketing some of the good, but he thinks of the group and decides against it. He lets out a loud whistle, to alert the group. " Everyone, some more items are hidden in this chest. Books, writing materials, and Platinum" he yells.

OOC: Only part of it for 6 weeks, but thanks a for the good memories in a short time.

OOC My thanks to our dedicated DM's. The new guys have big shoes to fill. You guys were awesome.

Gerox skips over to Edson and slaps him on the back. Nice job! Gonna be a pain to carry back. We should put Barratore on it!

Later... As they walk down the beach and see the ship dropping anchor, Gerox stands shielding his eyes from the sun and says, "I am ready to get back to Rum and see how the city is progressing. I am also ready for a nice hot bath. I wonder if any nice girl gnomes have immigrated yet?"

Hert thinks before replying to Harvest Moon:

"You are right. But it's complicated. Good and bad, enemies and friends, causes and effects... nothing is ever clear. It is more like a vortex of grey... life." - he is definitely struggling to find the right words. The speech is clearly not going as well as he'd hoped. He sighs: "Anyway. We were not wrong to kill them, any gold that they could've would've probably been marauded anyway. And I dragged their bodies to the sun and scavengers so that their decay goes more quickly.

The only thing I'm trying to say is that they deserve better than being sacks of gold for us."

Hert looks at Harvest with a glint of embarrassment on his face. "I probably shouldn't have brought it all up in the first place. It all sounded like I'm blaming you for something. How foolish..."

OOC:
Its been a pleasure having you as my DM for about 10 days I've been on this game! Good luck in your future travels over the Wold!

OOC: it has been an immense pleasure DMing for you guys. You've been great Players, helping me when I messed up and accepting my faults. My only regret is having to cut this module way too short. We had a grand ending planned, not to mention all the fun challenging monsters just to get there.

I hope that you use what flaws you saw in your strategies to your advantage.

I'm glad to have gone fishing with (some of) you guys and more glad that none of you died at my hands. :)

As the march back to the beach winds through the country side .... Peza's thoughts are on who they might meet?? .... who is the intended buyer ?? another piece to the puzzle of the beastlords .... she knows its not over .... the haunting eyes from the crystal linger in her thoughts .... someday they'll be able to amswer that .... she hopes .

On the beach shespots the Leaper ..... waving to catch Scully and his crews attention .... once done the raven haired girl relaxes in the sand ....

ooc: thanks to SteveK and Jon for all their hard work and dedication to making this a very intresting and flavorful game .

Brom sticks the beast a final time as do many others, just in case. He strides up to Barratore and with a smile saying. "I softened it up for ya. But that's still three crabs and a snake-vulture thing for me and one scorpion-snake for you. Looks like you need some practice..." He continues with a chuckle and a smile to his large comrade.

He also looks at the new guy clad in full armor. "Ya got courage. I like that."

Brom as with others are concerned by the manufacturing of monsters by these Beastlords. Maybe for an attack on Rum or some other nefarious agenda beyond Brom. Either way, it's just one more challenge, one more fight, one more task.

Scully's ship shows up. "Looks like it's time to head home for now. I suspect we'll be heading back this way again soon.

OOC: Thanks Steve and Jonathan for taking the time to DM.

Harvest Moon (HP34/34; CMD 19 / AC19) - Al  d20+13=33 ; d20+9=18 ;

Harvest Moon grins, "You have a very clever eye, Edson Kazil," she says to the elf. But, then again, is that not only to be expected of an elf? It is a thought that Harvest Moon has with no small measure of pride. It is a thought that, in itself, invokes thoughts of her elfish mother who passed on to death not two ... or was it three years ago. All things die. Death comes to all. And yet ... Why does each person look upon one's own death with such dread? Or the death of one's close with such grief?

In the midst of these thoughts, it comes to Harvest Moon that her face has dropped into lines of great distress and sadness. She raises an arm to wipe her face, but realizes that the clothing of green sea grasses that she now wears no longer have the large sleeves of her old sack robe. She sniffs back the feelings and begins in earnest the collection of odd machine parts scattered about the Building of the Scorpion Snake.

Also, before leaving, Harvest Moon stalks about the interior of the Building of the Scorpion Snake. All things must necessarily leave spoor. It is an inevitable result of the need to eat. She searches the floor for traces of scat. From such traces, she might know what sorts of creatures have been here. From traces of scorpion and snake dung, she might also know roughly how long the creatures had been kept here. And, by extension, how long was required to create such creatures.

It is good to return to the beach. The smell of the sea is cleansing in a curious undefinable manner. The spotting of the Leaper is not as welcome to Harvest Moon. An overland trip back to Rum would be preferable to her, than to keep such close quarters with the braggart Skulley Swiftblayde. Harvest Moon settles herself upon the sands of the beach. She takes her book of maps from her magic bag and begins to write. She pens the terrain that the League Adventurers had explored, adding to her already quite detailed map of the island. She also adds a section that describes the terrains within the Beastlord pens. And, in the end, Harvest Moon adds an accounting of the valuables that they, the League Adventurers, had found.

"We have forgotten!" Harvest Moon leaps to her feet, nearly spilling her vial of ink. "We have forgotten Eeoh and Sister Sarah. I must return to them." She quickly packs her gear. "Ask the men of the Leaper to wait," she says to the others as she strikes out once again around the perimeter of the Magic Fence. "I will return with the mules in a day or two. If you are not here when I return, I will make my way to Rum following the beach."

Gerox looks on in dismay as Harvest dashes off. "I can't believe we forgot them. We are horrible people. Barratore you and I should go with her. It isn't safe to wander these lands alone, especially leading to animals. The rest of you" He points out to the ship. "Stall"

He darts after Harvest
