Introductions and Such -- DM Zach
Monday January 7th, 2013 1:12:39 PM

Greetings Rummers!

Let me go ahead and get the bad news out of the way... because you were awarded the loot prior to the 7th and your new character sheets start on the 7th, I am going to have to say the new loot will not be added to your character sheets. I know, it is no fun and doesn't seem fair but that would essentially allow each of you to start with your wealth by level plus 1187.5 gold pieces. If you feel the need to vent, please shoot me an email and tell me what an evil person I am =(.

On that note, please make sure your new character sheets are linked in your headers and all of your vital stats such as HP AC and both YOUR NAME and YOUR CHARCTER'S NAME are in your header.

Al's is a perfect example and Brom's is nice in that it has a lot of information (if he would just add his name to help with my memory on whose character belongs to whom.)

Not going to be much in the way of RP in the post today. We will get to that tomorrow. What I need for you guys to do is make your way back via RP from where you are and get back to the City of Rum and have your characters ready to wake up for another day of adventuring tomorrow. We will get the ball rolling then. If you have questions just ask. I am going through and working on vetting PC Sheets as we speak. I will get you all vetted prior to the first combat. This would have been done sooner but I am still fighting bronchial pneumonia and Ian is fighting a very bad sinus infection.

I am happy to be here my friends and I look forward to a long and enjoyable relationship.

-Zach R.

Harvest Moon (HP34/34; CMD 19 / AC19) - Al
Monday January 7th, 2013 3:53:47 PM

It was good to have the company of Gerox Shale and Barratore Steelwind. With the Magic Fence as a guide it was not difficult to find the place at which they had left the mules. It was especially easy as Peza had conveniently marked the spot with the cache of their goods. It was with some nervousness that Harvest Moon called to the mules in the same voice she had used in their training. But, much to her relief, they came. With a happy grin upon her face, she helped load the goods back upon the backs of Eeoh and Sister Sarah, and then turned with Gerox Shale and Barratore Steelwind for the trip back to the beach.

Harvest Moon spent the ship ride back to Rum apart from most of the others. She could not easily abide the boasting of Skulley Swiftblayde. And, though others of his so-called "Heroes" seemed nicer, they all seemed to take the same attitude of their leader when in his presence. Just as well, though. After a month or more exploring the lands of the island, there was much to write about, and she spent much of the time with her journal and her specimens, describing and cataloging.

So too, did Harvest Moon fish for sea grasses, pulling large flat leaves of kelp onto the deck of the boat. Once there, she worked the deep green leaves of kelp in the sun until they were dry, but still pliable enough to make clothing from. This time, instead of simply wrapping the bands of sea grass about her body, Harvest Moon tried her hand at sewing a true garment. It was a simple garment, a large and shapeless robe with large sleeves that cover her hands when her arms hung down at her sides. As its single luxury, it sported a hood. It was, in nearly every way, an analog of the rough and worn robe in which she was clad when she first arrived in Plateau City many months ago. This, with the exception, that this robe was newly made, and that this robe was a dark sea green.

It is in this robe that Harvest Moon descends the gang plank to the docks of Rum. But journeys, she has found, are never complete upon returning to home. There is always much work to be done before one might rest. There is cleaning. There is unpacking. There are the many people one must speak to upon return. It is almost as taxing as the journey itself. And so, it is only after settling Eeoh and Sister Sarah in the stables, returning the magic map to the Fixers, and carefully arranging her seeds and specimens in the tent that she shares with Peza, that Harvest Moon finally finds time for a leisurely swim.

How pleasant it is to be home. To have a home. A home that one need not be ever alert to defend or to flee from with little more than one's life and the goods one can carry in one's arms. A home where one had friends to keep one safe. Such are the thoughts of Harvest Moon as she drifts off to sleep. Such are the thoughts that bring a smile to her sleeping face.

"You cheated with the hyenas, they don't count." Barratore returns to Broms accounting with a smile of his own.

Barratore looks at Gerox and then after the fleeing Harvest. He was not fond of the thought of being on a ship with Scully and his band but he did not want to walk all the way back. "Fine. If the ship leaves when I get to Rum tell Scully I'll personally beat him to death with his own arms." With his message delivered to Brom to pass on, Barratore takes off after Harvest.

The fighter is slightly disappointed that the trip is uneventful, but is glad for Harvest that the mules are located and they are on their way back.

Aboard ship, Barratore stays above deck and at the bow area. He intended to have as little contact with Scully as possible. No good showing up in Rum with a bunch of bodies to explain. Captain would have a fit. So Barratore keeps his mouth shut and his body and blade away from as many as he can

The tactic succeeds, and the Leaper arrives with all her crew. Barratore disembarks and heads for home quickly. the WLA would be all over them soon and wanted to get in a workout before that happened. Soon it would be meetings, and talking, and meetings and more talking and he would have to sit through it all and pretend he knew what was being talked about and that he cared. Usually neither was true

OoC. Barratore lost a couple points of intelligence and charisma in the conversion. His sunny disposition and ability to shrug off being made fun of and such thus also took a hit. If you poke the bull you very well may get the horns

Glad to be aboard Scully's ship .... the city girl is happy to be heading back to the growing city .... walking through the wilds of the island was a fun and intresting experience .... Peza is more at home in a bustling urban enviroment .

During the trip back the raven haired girl pitches in ..... helping keep watch .... helping where needed .

Checking in with Captain Theringer with their telestone .... she's keeps him updated on the groups activities

Brom rubs his chin. "Ha! That's right! I got the hyenas too. Even more for me. I am the man!!!" He struts his stuff just to add salt and to stroke his own ego.

Brom doesn't bother giving the message since he knew that if the ship were to leave with out the three it would leave without all of them.

Brom finds little to keep himself occupied during their travel. Unlike some of the others, he has no problem hanging around the crew. He especially spends much of his time pestering the barbarian in Scully's group. Brom had won the first round with him, remembering the beating Brom gave him during he challenge back in Rum. And man he gets miles off of that. Then again, what's a muscle-head like Brom going to do on a ship with nothing to pass the time.

Between Scully's barbarian friend and recounting to Barratore his exploits from the past month, making especially to point out each of his fantastic kills - vulture snake, dire hyenas, giant crabs, etc. - Brom manages to keep himself amused.

When the ship docks, Brom follows Barratore off the ship quickly. He, like the minotaur, is looking for some workout before they get bogged down in more boringness.

OOC: Edson lost a little wisdom and charisma... chalk it up to his naevity and brashness.

The City of Rum -- DM Zach
Tuesday January 8th, 2013 5:41:23 PM

Harvest Moon had many matters to attend upon arriving back in Rum. She went about her duties and got everything back in order before find some well deserved and peaceful rest.

Barratore finds time to get in a very thorough workout before able to rest for the the night. Surprisingly enough the officials from the WLA decided that an update could wait until morning at least. Either that or they have yet to realize that their adventurers have returned.

Peza keeps busy on the decks of Skully's Ship. She is troubled to discover that she can not seem to find her misplaced telestone. OOC: I am unsure what this object is. Did it count towards your WBL. Was it given by previous DM's? If so, that most likely means it has to be "taken away" and potentially regiven at a later date. At least update me on its stats or where it comes from. Thanks.

Brom finds time to get in a workout, possibly with Barratore before heading off to an uneventful slumber.

Gerox quietly contemplates benevolent ways to spend their recently acquired wealth and thinks that perhaps philanthropy is the way to go. OOC: So long as the money gives you guys no in-game benefit and is used in a heroic way, say given to an orphanage, or donated anymously and such, I think that is great. Don't expect to donate to someone and have it pay big dividends down the road... unless you actually use some of your own money from your WBL. I know it stinks.

Edson finds numerous places to unwind with various sailors playing games of chance, dice, and cards. His night is less peaceful than the others, but quite possibly more fun.

Hert finds himself a nice soft bed for the night and gets some rest before preparing to embark on their next adventure.

The following morning the group decides to meet up for breakfast before reporting in to the WLA. While enjoying a mighty fine meal, a young man with bright red hair pops his head in the door and calls out, "Stormrager and Theringer are getting ready to make some kind of announcement at the town square. Everyone is asked to attend!" The young man disappears as quickly as he appeared and if looked for can bee seen running to the next building crying out the same message again.

While there is some who are appreciative of the gear, only Harvest has any suggestions as to the minor magic that Captain Sal Theringer said the Fixers may be able to provide despite how overworked everyone is. At her suggestion, the grizzled ranger gives a small smile and places on the table a fist-sized stone of amber, easily worth 1000 gold!

"The FIxers have been facinated by the Blue Stone you brought back and have been trying to activate it or find out how it works. They haven't been able to do the first, but this is the results of the second effort. They call it a Telestone. Once a day, you can activate it and for one minute, you will be able to speak and listen to a person on the only other Telestone on Fixer Island similar to a Clairaudience spell. Torian Silverleaf told me that they don't know how stable it is or what the range is, but it should be at least anywhere on the island."

The workout felt good. It had been a few weeks since Brom had any decent exercise and he was sure to feel it. The next morning, during breakfast, Brom stuffs his face. He enjoys as many different things as he can. The food's much better than what he had been eating over the last few months.

The runner informs them of the impending announcement. "Probably gonna tell us something's disappeared or found and we'll be heading out soon to deal with it like some part of Rum's military." Brom says bluntly.

ooc: Somewhat of a change to Brom's appearance. His armor now has spikes attached to it.

Gerox gets to WLA headquarters and immediately finds a hot and long bath. He soaks and soaks feeling the tension, dirt and grime from the road leave his body. When the water cools he will warm it with his fire magic.

Then next morning he is constructing an elaborate and tall mutlilayered egg, sausage, bacon and cheese sandwich. He is halfway through it when the red haired man summons them to the meeting. "Really? We just got back after months tramping around and mapping the island and we have a meeting the very next day. Is their no justice in the world?"

Gerox stands taking his breakfast with him and tramps out to hear the announcement. He glances around to see the changes in the camp from when they left.

Barratore sleeps and snores soundly. Roughhousing and matching strength with Brom was always fun and tiring. With morning and the call for breakfast, Barratore does not disappoint at the table. Trying his best to eat and or drink everything within his substantial reach.

Looking up at the runners announcement he grunts an agreement to Brom. The Leather armor he wears while sleeping would be plenty sufficient to attend the announcement. "Ain't so bad Brom an if we're lucky whatever vanished or appeared is horribly dangerous." Barratore grins at the thought and grabs his blade and bow and heads towards the square.

Harvest Moon (HP34/34; CMD 19 / AC19) - Al
Tuesday January 8th, 2013 8:45:00 PM

Morning, as always, is early for Harvest Moon. This morning she brings with her, the gnarled root that she had once fancied and had carried with her ever since. It does, she thinks once again to herself as she turns it in her hands. It does very much look like a fist, like the fist of Domi that Thelonious used to wear. This morning, she holds the root as she communes with the world of all things, begging the boon of its blessings.

Even after her commune, the Wold is still barely light. Few are moving about, but in her restlessness, Harvest Moon sets about the tasks that still remain from their return the day before. Collecting the gold bands and many of the odd and curious parts of the machines of the Beastlords, she makes her way to the place of the Fixers.

To a weary eyed clerk, Harvest Moon tells of their adventure in the pens of the Beastlords. She explains the gold bands, the leashes and the sundry machine parts. She explains that the study of these things may help the Fixers to understand the ways of the Beastlords, and by extension, to help avert the doom that was prophesied. Then Harvest Moon returns to the compound of the League Adventurers and the main dining tent where she joins the others. As always, there is such curious bounty. The food is good, but in some undefinable way, it lacks when compared to food gathered in the wild.

The flame haired human comes and the flame haired human goes. After he leaves, Harvest Moon ponders the oddness of this. It is different in a manner that she cannot put her finger upon at first. And then it comes to her. Usually Captain Sal Theringer would speak only to them. They were, after all, his soldiers in the Woldian League of Adventurers. Instead, though, it seems that people from other parts of Rum would be coming to hear what is to be said. Very curious. Very interesting.

Scrambling to her feet " lets go so we can get a good spot up fron of the crowd ... be easier to hear "

Giggling as girls do .... Peza swiftly races out the door " hurry Harvest .... i'll race you ... hehehe "

ooc: the Telestone was given to the group this past adventure to help communicate with Captain Thereinger ... whether this was supposed to be permanent or not i know not ... could of been just something temperary to help the module .... no big deal .... i'm sure you'll add something bigger and better for us ;-) lol

OoC: My impression is that the Telestone was an improvised feature that DM SteveK whipped up in response to PC's response to his general request for "any other questions". It was designed to keep the group in contact with Rum during the mapping expedition. As such, it sounds reasonable to me that it should go back to the Fixers now that the mapping expedition is over.

He smiles to everyone when he comes in and takes his seat. Even though he is obviously tired, he doesn't let it to get to him and talks to everyone, asking how their night was. The food really hits the spot he thinks to himself. And just as he excuses himself to go get some sleep, a young redheaded man runs in to tell of the announcement..

" Just my luck he says" as he heads to the coat rack, dons his cloak(pulling the hood down, over his eyes), and follows the others to get a good spot.

Hert's breakfast is quick and plain. He spends his morning in meditation, till the red haired man arrives. He packs his things and, after asking several strangers for directions, arrives at the town's square.

Town Square -- DM Zach
Wednesday January 9th, 2013 5:28:22 PM

On the way to the Town Square there is getting to be a rather decent sized gathering of people. Stormrager and Theringer can be seen standing on an impromptu stage of crates adjacent to a canvas that has been thrown over some large item standing about 8ft tall and about 6feet wide. It seems to be rather narrow though at about 8 to 10 inches.

After more people have gathered around Stormrager steps to the front of the stage and begins to speak. "With the increasing population and extra work load going on around here... we have been tasking our WLA'ers to their limits and then some. They have never failed, and in fact have exceeded our expectations in many ways. However, we have way to many jobs and in some cases have difficulties prioritizing missions. Sal and I have, hopefully come up with a way to alleviate some of these problems."

The intimidating dwarf nods to the stoic elf who steps forward and begins to speak. "This new system, while some may view it as crude... will be tested on at least a trial basis to see how it works. What we are adopting is a Bounty Board. The WLA and other organizations will post jobs... or bounties on this board and potentially employees can take the bounty and attempt the job. Upon completion return with the task completed and the Bounty for your reward. All bounties are certified through the WLA so you will be paid if you complete the task. So, without further ado..."

With that, Theringer and Stormrager remove the canvas and expose a sturdy, well built bulletin board with various jobs and bounties posted. Several people from the crowd immediately begin inspecting the board and some even grab a few off of the board.

OOC: IF you don't mind guys, I'll let you guys return it when you report in on the mapping."

Harvest Moon (HP34/34; CMD 19 / AC19) - Al

Sometimes it is difficult to be very short. Standing within the crowd is like being in a hole or a narrow canyon. She can hear the voice of the Fixer Anvil Stormrager, but she cannot see anything at all through the many gathered peoples. She can jump quite well, and Harvest Moon makes several hops into the air that provide a brief glimpse of the stage and the goings on thereon. It is, however, far more an irritating experience than a satisfying one.

It is only after the crowd has thinned enough for Harvest Moon to approach that she is able to get a good look at this ... Bounty Board. What manner of jobs might be posted upon it? Harvest Moon gives her friend Peza a quizzical look that, alone and without words, speaks volumes about her curiosity.

OOC: Yes, he most certainly is. I knew he was a human but for some reason mistyped. Sigh... thank you for pointing that out. If it helps Cayzle introduced my half-elf as a dwarf in Ust yesterday lol."

The Captain looks to Peza and Harvest Moon and leans in a little closer. "As a formidable group of that has proven yourself as valuable members of the WLA again and again, I will always turn to you guys with the big stuff and missions that I feel I can't trust anyone else with. That said, I would ask that you guys use the Bounty Board for a while at least to sort of encourage others to use it. That way we will have a way to get minor tasks done without dispatching WLA'ers who could be used on more meaningful tasks. There is one Bounty currently on the board of some interest and importance. I can't play favorites but... you will know it when you see." With that the Captain nods before continuing on his way towards his office at the WLA HQ.

Several small missions, courier and messenger missions mostly, pop off the board quickly. There is one that mentions finding a unique and rare mushroom for study that someone quickly grabs. One bounty gets several low whistles from various people but no one takes it.

It reads:

Edson turns to leave, not stops, snapping a finger in the air. " oh yeah, if you decide we're gonna do this one can you please get me from the inn. I vote with the majority. "

A grin spreads across Harvest Moon's broad face. She swells with pride at the words of Captain Sal Theringer and turns to Peza to share in the confidence that the Captain of the Woldian League of Adventurers has for she and her friends.

Later, however, upon perusing the Bounty Board, Harvest Moon is cast down from the high place upon which her spirit stood only moments ago. Despite all of her studies, she realizes, she knows nothing of the area of Rum itself. The fact that this would only be natural after having been away upon a mapping expedition for over a month, provides little consolation.

The question then is, what to do if one knows nothing? And the answer must necessarily then be ... Find out. "Piracy, murder, smuggling, malicious mischief, theft, and destruction," says Harvest Moon. "He must not be allowed to do such things. We must stop him."

"We must ask about the town to find out about this Pirate King," she adds. "We must ask at the docks. We must ask the sailors. We must ask the merchants and the guards. And ... "

Then, a thought comes to Harvest Moon. Were she a Pirate King, she might wish to send spies to Rum in order to find news about rich shipments and well laden boats about to sail the seas. She might even wish to know rumors about herself. And if such spies were in Rum, surely they would be here today.

Quickly, Harvest Moon scans the faces of the peoples who stand about the Board.

Later in the day, she would go about the town to speak to the people about the Pirate King. She will find the task much more difficult than she first anticipated. Her manner, she finds, is too direct. People do not take too kindly to her. Even so, will manage to eke out some common rumors.

But, for now, she scans the crowd with suspicion, searching for spies.

With that information, he heads back to the WLA compound to plan with his friends. He sits down and pours himself a glass of wine. "I think this plan of acting as bait has some merit but it might take sailing around for awhile. It is a bit reactive in nature. I wounder if we could up the ante a bit and concoct a story of a special treasure ship heading back with a special new trade good. Maybe something from the Catpeople or a special new spice? Get the rumors out along those lines. I am sure this pirate has informants in Rum. We just need a worthy treasure that is believable. Anyone have any ideas?

We have to try and not be to obvious but maybe a bit clumsy. Harvest, I know you were asking questions today. Did you find any potential informants we might feed some information too?"

At dinner, Brom hears about this pirate and more of the board. "I knew it." He says. "He probably got some place on the coast, hidden away. Here was going to be a good story and adventure worth talking about. Arriving at the compound in almost a jog, Barratore calls out as he goes and gets his gear.

"Pirate Hunting Time, Grab your gear and lets get! We're rested, fed and haven't done anything but prevent dust from collecting on our backsides. Gear up and lets get to the ship and go hunting!" Emerging moments later, the minotaur is all grins.

Barratore looks around at the others and sighs. No, it's not going to happen. More talking. Barratore's shoulders slump a bit and he turns and goes back into hiss tent. Grumbling about women, the need to talk and the waste of time that it is.

He leaves the town square without saying a word to find a quiet and deserted place on the island. He spends the whole day in prayers, meditations and his strange rituals. At dinner he meets the rest of the party and joins the conversation.

"It isn't gonna be easy. If he's really ''extremely dangerous'', we should be very careful. We know nothing about him, and he knows that WLA is now on him, so he'll be careful. Or I think so. Unless he is arrogant. Either way, there's no guarantee that he will take the bait we are giving him...

"I think that we should speak with Captain Sal Theringer to help us place all of the pirate's attacks upon a map. I think that Brom is right. He cannot go far from his base. Knowing his attacks will tell us where is territory lies."

"It is very curios," contiues Harvest Moon, " that he should burn the ships. Are the ships not valuable? Perhaps this Pirate King is a fool. Or ... " The half-elven girl pauses to reflect upon the problem. "Or, perhaps there is another reason to destroy valuable ships."

If he brings in more crews, his control lessens, his security lessens, and a possiblility of a coup could happen. Also we seem to be way out here. It takes a long time to sail here. I am not sure if there are closer ports where he can sell the ships, but with even skeletion crews, he will be without his people for a long time."

Gerox pauses, butters a roll and takes a bite. He finishes saying, "Still the ships coming in with supplies are loaded with well supplies. He isn't getting gold. He is getting raw materials and people. Could he be a slaver? Or a monster who is looking for easy food? Definitely worth ending either way."

The group apparently has heard very little about the Pirate King aside from the fact that the Pirate King of Rum is a vile pirate that attacks the various ships bring supplies to Rum before setting them afire. Asking various people around the docks and the square get a whole host of answers from the fact that he is a normal pirate whose threat is being over-stated by the WLA to the fact that he is in fact an undead demi-lich who is the most dangerous threat to have ever face the Wold. You get the idea that the truth lies somewhere in between.

The group goes about finding their own answers and come back together outside the compound to discuss their next course of action. As they do, who shows up but their friends, Scully's Heroes. Libscomb, the human cleric calls out to Barratore, "Hey bull-boy... I think you accidentally took our bounty. How about you hand it over so we can go kill this pirate king?" There is the hint of a threat in his voice.

The whole crew is there with Libscomb, including Scully, Tarnwit, Lupo, Tinsy, Matte', Hooch, and one new adventurer a female elf that must have replaced the now deceased Mac Allen.

Co-DM SteveK - Meet the Neighbors

Harvest works on some spices for the meat and tries to compete with Scully's Heroes in the hearts and minds of the neighbors. The results are somewhat ambiguous because of the generally holiday aptmosphere of the lunch makes the neighbors disinclined to look for or appreciate any one-ups-manship on the part of either the WLA or Scully's Heroes.

Peza moves out of the way to Bralin and gets to know the newest member of the team better.

Gerox wonders about exploring the island (its a BIG island) and the possibility of hooved critters for the table. Otherwise they may get mighty tired of fish. After all, that's about all they ate for 4 months on the voyage...

After the lunch and the cleanup, the WLA heroes seem to drift back to their tents for a little note comparisons. Especially from Barratore (who got a LOT of information in talking to the haughty bard), Crag, and Lemick, the WLA gets a fair description of Scully's Heroes.

....................

Scully. the human Fighter and leader of the group. Equipped with chainmail, large steel shield, longsword. He seems arrogant and very sure of himself. Loves to intimidate, but will respect those that stand up to him as someone to reckon with.

Tarnwit, the half-elf Bard, who is hanging his future reputation on Scully's exploits. Equipped with chainmail, rapier, and hornpipe, he sings "sea shanties" for his spells. He is radiantly confident and superior to anyone besides Scully.

The cloaked man with a boyish face is Mac Allen, a quiet human Ranger. Equipped with chainmail, kukri, shortbow. He is quiet and even Scully's crew doesn't know much about him.

Lupo Caine, the human Barbarian. Wearing hide armor and carrying a battleaxe, Tarnwit hinted that Lupo owes Scully a life, but didn't go into the details.

Sieur Hooch, human witch from the far-away Southern Continent. Equipped with a net and bola, Hooch claims that voices speak to him and he can only keep them away by drinking. He has an outlandish claim that the Southern Continent had a Great Migration where the lands actually rip out of the earth and rearrange themselves like puzzle pieces. He was caught in a rip and landed on Scully's front door in Cinamon Valley. Taking it as a sign, he follows Scully around.

Tinsy Fillitagin, the gnome sorcerer owns a dagger, but of course is a spellcaster and a complete happy-go-lucky spirit.

Matte' Tor, the well-dressed rogue, owns leather armor and probably several daggers (at least 3). Matte is a swashbuckling acrobat who seems to like everyone knowing just how good he is.

Libscomb, the human cleric of Domi. He normally wields a breastplate, large steel shield, and mace. Looking like a bear to Scully's bull, he loves to wrestle and seems to enjoy life and challenges.

Barratore tells Scully's Heroes to go find something more attuned to their skills and also lets them know he is not in the mood to put up with their junk.

Harvest Moon is more interested in trying figure out if they are going to attack the group over this bounty. They seem brazen and if they have their mind set on getting the bounty, but none of them have any kind of aggressive indicators or are reaching for weapons. Right now it seems like a lot of positioning by everyone except maybe Barratore who has already drawn his weapon and Brom who is cracking his knuckles and hurling insults.

Peza is curious why they want the piece of paper from the bounty board rather than going after the Pirate King anyway.

Gerox attempts some diplomacy with the group. Would Barratore and Brom really go for that though... assuming of course Scully and his crew would?

Brom begins hurling insults and seems to be trying to instigate a fight, or at the very least anger his rivals.

----------------
Libscomb begins laughing at Barratore, "Oh is the wittle cow-boy gonna stick us with his little butter-knife? HAHAHA"

Scully answers Harvest's question about why they weren't at the bounty board. "Things like that tend to happen when you are getting payed, Seems we were still recounting our adventurers to Artus so he could update the WLA's maps."

Answering Peza the elf responds, "First off, I'm Jeyne, and that is simple. I signed on with the WLA, got orders to Rum, they mentioned there were two groups I could potentially sign on with. Scully's seemed like they had more potential. Simple choice really. Second off, Artus said to prevent multiple people from going after the same bounty, to be payed you must have the bounty with you when you return."

When Gerox mentions teaming up, Scully steps forward and cuts him off. "Now hold on just a minute. 5000 is worth our time... 2500 not so much. Now, if we were to do say, a 70/30 split with us getting the lions share... I'd say you have a deal."

When Brom[/b speaks [b]Lupo begins laughing. "Oh, the Broom is going to do something... oh no... he might sweep us into the street. Whatever will we do?" the Barbarian asks feigning mock fear and trepidation. The whole group has a good laugh.

Scully steps forward and calms tensions a bit. "Ok, ok, how about this. Our group against your group. Winner takes the bounty. We'll be willing to wager say... 3000gp that we can beat you. Now no killing each other... just a good beating, till ya'll are unconscious, give up, or can't fight anymore. What do you say?"

Tough to tell the magic to stop before it kills you. No I don't think public brawling makes much sense and most likely would be frowned upon by our bosses and the Fixers too."

Gerox then strides up to Scully and says, "So you want 70% of the bounty. That might be arranged as long as we get the spoils. Ours is riskier. Who knows if the ship will survive the attack. Who knows if they will have any loot at their base. So we get 30% of the bounty and the risk. You get assured money. We work together and bring down a menace and it helps all of our reps. Harvest Moon (HP34/34; CMD 19 / AC19) - Al
Sunday January 13th, 2013 10:55:13 AM

The keen perceptions of Harvest Moon, schooled by the harsh necessities of life in the Contested Kingdoms, once again warn her to a dangerous behavior. This time, however, it is not the behavior of others. It is their own behavior of which she becomes aware. The voices of her friends, the League Adventurers, sound harsh to the ears of Harvest Moon. Next to the voice of Scully SwiftBlayde, they sound overly aggressive and unreasonable. This is not right. This should not be.

Sometimes the most difficult foe is one's own self. Harvest Moon shakes herself and then draws a deep breath. She speaks a few short words, listening to her own voice, before she can be certain that she has tamed the wild creatures of her own nature. "I think that Gerox Shale is right," she begins. "The Pirate King must be stopped. The bounty gold is not important."

She strides boldly forward, a small green bundle swathed in her oversized robes. With disapproving arms that fold across her chest, she confronts the so-called Scully's Heroes group. "But I think that you will not fight the pirates without the gold. You will not, I do think, fight even us, without the promise of gold. But the stronger team will bring the greatest chance of success. If we combine our teams, we will surely defeat the Pirate King. So I will gladly give my share of the bounty gold to you if you will join us."

"If you do not wish this ... " Harvest Moon shrugs, but her face also pulls into a moue of irritation at the very thought of such foolishness. "If you do not wish to combine our groups into a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude, then, perhaps, it would be best to challenge each other to see who would be better able to defeat the Pirate King. But we should not so do here. It is lawless to fight on the streets, within the town. We should go to the beach. Or to the lands north of Rum. Also, because this will be a test to discover who is best fit to face the Pirate King, I cannot guarantee that there will be no blows that cut or break. This will not be a contest for gold. It will be a contest of fitness. I do not think that any of us wish your deaths. But death comes to all. And accidents will also come when they will."

"Do you wish to combine with us? Or will you challenge us for the right to fight the Pirate King instead?"

Others of Scully's Heroes begin to speak but Scully cuts them off. "Harvest, you always were the voice of reason. If you can get your minotaur friend back over here, I think we can work something out. How about this... since you and your merry band don't seem to want to put any money on this we can work this out a different way. Let's do this fight, down on the beach, like you said. Yes, accidents do happen, I just don't want anyone going after a downed foe. Regardless, how do you like these terms. If we win, we get the bounty. If you win, I'll tell you guys everything we know about the Pirate King. Considering that we have been mapping the coast, and have already encountered one of his lackeys... I'd say our information could prove... useful. If we win, we might be willing to "hire" you guys on... letting you keep any gear you find. Likewise, if you win, we might consider working for... er... with you guys... assuming the price is right. What do you say?" Scully leaves it to Harvest and the rest of the group to decide.

OOC:
Hello fellow Wold players. I must apologize for my weeks of absence. I've been trying to manage my time, but have been unable to find time for even a few minutes (though I was without internet for part of this time). Regardless, I have come to the hard decision, that despite a near decade of playing in the Wold -- I must take a break to manage the various real-life expectations. All of good, no trauma, deaths, illness -- just overworking at the job (typical for a teacher), family commitments and overall lack of time.

I will be emailing Jerry immediately after this to inform him. (I haven't even checked that email account yet this year.

It is with some hope, that when life calms, I shall return. I leave with good memories and respect for the DM's, players and the Powers that Be..

The frown on the face of Harvest Moon deepens. "You know of the Pirate King, and would withhold this knowing for gold?"

"No," she then says, punctuating the word with a crosswise cut of her hand. "We will not fight you for such a knowing. You will tell us. You will tell us because it is the right thing to do. After this, if you are willing to join with us, then there will be no reason to fight you. We will fight the Pirate King together. I will give you my portion of the bounty as I have promised. But I cannot speak for my friends. This they must decide for themselves. It is unfortunate that some of your fellows began by casting insults at us. After such, I cannot help but think that the generosity of my friends will not be great."

"I will speak with Barratore Steelwind. But he is a minotaur of great pride and great honor." Again Harvest Moon shrugs. "I will try."

Can You Trust Their Map? -- DM Zach
Tuesday January 15th, 2013 7:12:12 PM

Fine, you are too scared to fight, and don't want to pay what our information is worth. I figured since we mapped the location that we are fairly certain is the supply depot he resupplies at you would be interested. And before you accuse us of not taking him out then... there was no bounty then. We will leave you be, but how about this. We will give you the info and since I like you... you won't have to pay right then. If you all live and get the Pirate King, ya'll decide if our info was worth it. If it was, then you pay us 1000gp. If it wasn't... well, you'll be lying to yourself." Scully pulls a folded piece of parchment out of his pocket and throws it on the ground. "That's where I would go if I were ya'll. And don't get yourself killed. We want a chance to beat ya'll bloody one of these days... you know, when ya'll aren't to scared." Scully and his Heroes turn to leave but he calls back over his shoulder. "And be careful... they say there is something unnatural about the Pirate King and his crew."

The piece of parchment is folded up on the ground. Examining it will reveal a fairly well drawn map of the southwestern coast of Rum. There are numerous islands on the map, but on is circled and has an X on it. It is a rather small island, inconspicuous and out of the way. The only question is, what is Scully's motive here. Is he trying to send the Heroes on the false path and go after the Pirate King himself, or is he simply letting you all go in the hopes that you are killed? Maybe he was sincere and is just going to wait on another sufficient bounty?

Should the group take a chance on visiting the depot, or would attempting to lure the Pirate King out have a better chance of success?

Gerox Shale ac 13 hps 30/30 George
Tuesday January 15th, 2013 7:38:35 PM

Gerox picks up the map and studies it. "I think we need to check out this island first. Scully might be playing us false but my gut tells me he is on the level. Even if it turns out that Scully is lying to us, we really don't have another clue besides trying to pretend to be a cargo ship and hope to lure them into a trap. We can always fall back on that.

We need to go get the ship (I can't remember its name) and take a scouting trip down that way. Anyone have any scrying skills? Not on my list yet. I figure the ship can lay off the island, we can row in with a smaller craft and do some scouting. I wonder what Scully meant when he said the Pirate King was unnatural. I hope he isn't undead. I remember when I first went to sea, one of the sailors told a story of a pirate ship piloted by cursed men. They couldn't be killed and looked normal enough during the day. It was only at night when their true undead nature was revealed. Something about moonlight showed them as skeletons."

Gerox shivers and says, "I am hoping that was just a tall tale. I hate fighting undead. Just makes my skin crawl!"

"I am sorry that we could not all agree to join our groups together." Even as Harvest Moon tenders her apology, her keen eyes scour the face of Scully Swiftblayde. It is difficult for the face and body to lie or conceal, and it is for signs of these deceits upon Scully Swiftblayde that Harvest Moon now looks. "If your map is of use, I will give you your gold," she promises. "From my own share, if necessary."

"And if you wish a fight, I will meet you upon the beach," she offers. "I may not defeat you. But I will try."

Later, Harvest Moon gathers with the others to examine the map of Scully Swiftblayde. She begins with a blessing to lend her Guidance in the task. Here is where her study of maps and the Geography of Rum will prove itself useful. She pours over their map and compares it to the ones that she herself has drawn in her own book. Hopefully, there will be something here that will be of use.

"We must speak with Artus Morindim," she says, as Gerox Shale mentions the SeaSprite. "His SeaSprite should be just the thing to take us to this place. It is a fast ship. And," she adds, "I think that will be good."

What's the Worst that Could Happen? -- DM Zach
Wednesday January 16th, 2013 9:34:12 PM

Gerox beleives Scully be be trusted... at least on some level.

Harvest seems to agree with Gerox. The maps location seems to match up very close with the information she heard from others and what was generally associated with the bounty.

Edson and Barratore seems to think Scully is the lowest of the low and even have plans to rob him should he be payed by others of the group. Edson tries to determine if he remembers hearing anything about the Pirate King while he was on the pirate ship. He doesn't immediately recall anything. (try some knowledge checks if you like).

Peza uses reason for why she seems to be willing to trust Scully. It makes sense, he is after all a very proud man.

Hert unfamiliar with the group tries to determine if Scully is lying but honestly believes he is telling the truth.

The entirety of the group contemplates Scully's words that the Pirate King might be unnatural. Is he a skeleton.

The group now must decide how to proceed. Regardless they will need Artus and the SeaSprite. Do they dare trust Scully's Map. Can they afford not to. Will they try the intricate bait and switch manuever. Find out next week... or tomorrow =)

Harvest Moon points out the places where the map of Scully Swiftblayde match her own maps and her own knowledge of the area. She also shares with them the important things that she knows of the area which surrounds this Resupply Place of the Pirate King. Available landing beaches, the character of the terrain, all of these things does Harvest Moon describe. (Knowledge Geography from last post.)

At a point during her speaking of such things, Harvest Moon looks up and in the direction in which the compound of Scully's Heroes lies. Their meeting with Scully Swiftblayde and his men and women went much better than in previous times. Scully Swiftblayde himself seemed more reasonable than before. Perhaps, muses, Harvest Moon within the stillness of these few moments of reflection, perhaps this was due to her own change during the encounter. Perhaps some peoples will become more reasonable when not met with threats and strong defense.

It is a thing to consider, reflects Harvest Moon. A thing to remember for the future.

Too many things turned out weird today, and he tries to figure it all out over and over. Who is Scully and why does he behave this way? Who is the Pirate King?

After the group have arranged the meeting place, Hert promptly leaves. He finally understands what to do. For the next 2(1d4) hours he will gather everything there is to know about the Pirate King (Gather Information 1d20=19). If the Pirate King is an undead - he has been raiding the sea for a very long time - longer than any mortal pirate could have. He will ask the elderly people around the town about the legend of the Pirate King and more specifically - when did they hear it first. "If its more than five decades - he's definitely undead." - Hert thinks to himself.

Making Preparations -- DM Zach
Thursday January 17th, 2013 9:10:07 PM

Peza begins getting supplies together and suggests seeing if Artus and/or Theringer have better maps, possibly supplied by Scully's.

Edson decides to help Peza get the supplies together and waits for a list.

Gerox catches up with Captain Theringer who is quite a busy man. He nods at the mention of Scully but says nothing. When asked about the ship he answers, "Yes, the Seasprite is at your disposal... so long as Artmus has no pressing needs for it. Check with him." He has no other answers about the Pirate King aside from rumor and speculation and the man does not deal with either.

Harvest Moon was certain Scully was telling the truth and perhaps she is correct in thinking her tone and demeanor kept the whole thing from blowing out of proportion. Had others of the party been left to their own devices the streets would surely be bloody now. Scully also did a good job of calming his men. Perhaps it is a mutual respect for each other? Harvest notices the best looking spot for a landing on the island appears to be a fairly open beach on the northern side of the island. The hard part will be locating the depot itself as it is not listed anywhere on the map.

Hert talks to some of the old Fogey's around the island. Most of them however, have not been here long as the is a new settlement. Which means the Pirate Kings attacks have only recently started.

---------
When the heroes are ready, Artmus can be found at the docks with the SeaSprite. He tells the group what he has heard of the PIrate King, which mirrors exactly what the group has already heard. He pulls out maps of the island in question and the are almost identical to the ones you have if not better quality and not folded. It doesn't mean Scully was completely honest, but at least his map was spot on. Was that a gesture of good will he gave, or is he just hoping the heroes will see the value of his information and pay him for it?

Artmus smiles to Harvest, "I can set set'er down on the beach O'Yours no problem. When do we leave?"

Brom does little to assist with the planning of the pirate hunt. He checks his gear and double checks it. Then sits down as the others talk of plans.

They didn't need a boat. He thinks. The hideout is along the coast and pirates wouldn't expect something from the island. The sea, on the other hand, was a complete advantage to the pirates, who knew the waters around the island much better than any boat at Rum.

"I think that it may be best to leave here tomorrow, Navigator Artus Morindim," replies Harvest Moon to the crusty halfling. "Or would it be best to leave in the evening," she asks, "so that we might approach the island with the least chance of being seen?"

"I have heard that this Pirate King is a very strong foe. And I think that the more that we know of he and his group, before he and his group know of us, the better we will be able to face him. We should sneak upon him and watch first, and so we must arrive at the island with as much stealth as possible." A frown of concentration drops onto the face of Harvest Moon as she mulls the question. "Is a ship capable of proceeding with stealth, Navigator Artus Morindim?" she asks.

"I think, Gerox Shale, that it would be best if the SeaSprite put us on the beach at the Pirate King's Resupply Island, and then returned to Rum. For our return, we will have to capture the ship of the Pirate King and sail back to Rum ourselves. We might also tell Navigator Artus Morindim to return to the island if he has not heard from us in a month's time. But ... " The face of Harvest Moon clouds at the thought, "if he has heard of more pirate attacks in that month's time, to consider that we have failed and are all slain."

Upon the final short trip before departure from the compound of the Woldian League of Adventurers to the SeaSprite, Harvest Moon keeps a weather eye for spies who might report the departure of she and her friends. (See Perception check below.) Upon the journey to the island, she must remain equally vigilant she reminds herself. Harvest Moon ponders the possibilities. After a moment, she shakes the images from her mind's eye. None of these possible Pirate Kings would, in her imaginings, use fire to destroy a ship. They would be more likely to breech the hull and draw it down into the sea. Or so surmises, Harvest Moon.

But, it is an interesting thought. Perhaps even amusing. And it is the last thought of Harvest Moon before drifting off to sleep aboard the SeaSprite as it leaves the harbour of Rum. After asking that she be wakened for a watch after the moons have risen, Harvest Moon retires to her hammock.

The Rummers take turns in the crow's nest of the SeaSprite. While taking a look around in the later portion of the night, Harvest is the first to spot the island. She gives the call and also notices how deftly Artus handles the ship, nearing the appointed beach with little noise.

A rowboat is prepared and lowered into the ocean.

Before rowing off Artus calls out. "I'll sail here once a week for the next two months until ye show up. If nothing, I'll check in once a month for four months. After that, I'll assume ye are lost for good. I'll see you at midnight in seven days me hope."

The Rummers are left to row themselves ashore... it will be about 300 meters.

Harvest Moon keeps a weather eye during the trip from the SeaSprite to the shore. To the elf-born eyes of Harvest Moon, the sea and the island lie silver under the light of the moons, silver as a blanket of snow. "We should hide the rowing boat," she says in a whisper to the others.

Upon the beach she, as diligent as a hound, scours the area for traces that might reveal dangerous creatures, or the presense of yet more dangerous peoples. With the map in her mind, she plots a direction to the Place of Resupply.

But some folks only made two posts last week, and we aren't off to that great of a start this week either. If you stop in to post and I haven't made my post yet and you don't think you will get back around to checking in again later... just do a quick "Checking in" post. It's better than not posting at all.

Alright, that's enough ranting from me... you guys have an island to explore.

--------------

Harvest Moon steps off of the boat and into action. She scans the beach for any signs of danger or activity and with her enhanced elvish senses, finds that there is no imminent danger. She looks for any tracks or signs of passage. She immediately notices various animal tracks, crab, turtle and monkey to be specific. The closer to the vegetation... er, let's be clear... jungle, she goes, she begins to find some larger tracks. Still small, but larger.

Assuming Harveste Moon points the tracks out to the others. Knowledge Nature: DC 12 Highlight to display spoiler: {Kobold tracks.}

Gerox Shale debates casting a light spell and asks for input from the his companions.

Edson looks for signs of danger, bow at hand, but sees nothing.

Brom looks for any type of place to use as a camp. The beach seems a little exposed. There is heavy vegetation about 200 yards from the water. In fact it sort of become likes a dense jungle once you get off the beach. Maybe once you leave the beach you can find a better place to make camp.

Barratore takes a knee in the water and looks for any signs of a threat. His senses are somewhat dulled by the sound of the water and the night sky.

The heroes find themselves in no immediate danger. Those who studied the map will have a general idea of which way to progress from here knowing they need to, in general, head towards the East and Central portion of the Island. It seems the Pirate King may be using a decent sized river that flows from the central portion of the island and opens up into the Southern coast. You are currently west of that river... how far you can't be certain.

Assuming the warrior agrees, Hert spends a decent amount of time explaining which buckle goes where before they manage to put it on. One way or another, by the time they arrive at the coast, Hert is fully armed and ready for a fight.

But there is no one to fight. The beach looks empty and deserted - to Hert, at least. Even though he can hardly see anything, he does not create any sort of lightning and advices Gerox against it:

"Making a light right now would be like announcing our presence to the whole island. I don't think we should do that just yet. Some of us can see in the darkness, right? I think this will be enough for the time being."

He also suggests:

"It is probably a good idea to wait till dawn somewhere in that jungle. The darkness so far is more of a danger than an asset to us right now."

In the tunnels of the Spiderkin she saw these tracks. They are here.

"It is the Small Eyes," whispers Harvest Moon. "Those we fought in the tunnels beneath the ground of Rum. The ones you have called ... Kobolds."

"Yes, I think it would be best to camp here upon the beach. They will be keen of ear. Their eyes will also pierce the darkness. And they will dig pits,"
says Harvest Moon, recalling the pit trap into which she had fallen, saved only by the rope about which her waist had been tied. "We will be at a disadvantage in the darkness against the Small Eyes."

Harvest Moon begins shaping a soft bed in the sand at the edge of the jungle. "I do not think that the Small Eyes are ones to be drawn by such a ruse, Gerox Shale," she replies. "I think that they are more like to spy us and slink away. They will tell others of us. And they will most like return to us in great numbers."

She eyes the shallow depression and finds it satisfactory.

"Better, I think, to track the Small Eyes to their place. From there we may be able to capture one or two who stray from the others. Do you speak the language of the Small Eyes, Gerox Shale," she asks. "I do not."

Before leaving Gerox Shale and Hert to the first watch of the night, Harvest Moon describes to the others the map as she holds it in her mind. Their landing beach on the north side of the island likely places them well away from the main territory used by the Pirate King and his pack who use the river to the south as a road. The best, but most dangerous way to find the Resupply Place of the Pirate King would be to go southeast until meeting the river. From there, they might follow the river north. At some place must be the Resupply Place.

"Tomorrow, we should proceed as we did when approaching the building in which we fought the Scorpion Snake," suggests Harvest Moon. Edson Kazil will proceed first to test for pits that might have been dug by the Small Eyes. I and Peza should follow to watch and listen for dangers and give warning. Your Message magic will be very useful in this, Gerox Shale," she adds. "So you should follow next, but, perhaps, a hundred paces behind. Behind you, Barratore Steelwind to watch over you. Then Hert. Then, to watch the trail and protect from behind, Brom."

"That is my thinking,"
says Harvest Moon.

Morning, for Harvest Moon, comes, as it always does, with the dimmest gloom of the false dawn. This first day upon the island of the Pirate King's Resupply Place will be important. They must begin well in order to end well. After her morning communion, Harvest Moon seats herself with a slice of bread, a brick of cheese, and her book. She opens to a fresh page and begins to pen the things that they know. Below this, Harvest Moon adds a few things that they do not know, but seem well reasoned from the known things.

Things Known:

We are on the north coast.
The Pirate King we think to be in the center, maybe east, of the island.
A river flows from possibly near the Pirate King and goes to the south coast.
We are now west of the river.
There are cliffs on the coast.
There is jungle in the interior of the island.

Things we can think from the Things Known:

We are on the Northwest part of the coast.
We can see cliffs up or down the beach. (Or, we saw them during our approach from the sea in the dark.)

Below her surmising, Harvest Moon then draws a rough map of where these things should logically be. To her fellow League Adventurers, she shows both the written thoughts and the map.

The Map of Harvest Moon

"I think that if we go to the southeast, we must meet this river. It should be a river big enough to sail a ship, so we will know it by its size. If we meet the south coast, then we must go east. But I think that we will easily meet the river by going southeast."

"When we meet the river, we can scout up and down until we find the Resupply Place. Or, we can wait and watch the river in hopes of spying the Pirate King or his crew and then following them."

"I will search for a likely trail by which we might walk to the center of the island. Gerox Shale, do you have the Whisper Message magic so that we might proceed quietly through the jungle?"

Post of Thursday January 17th, 2013 9:10:07 PM: Harvest notices the best looking spot for a landing on the island appears to be a fairly open beach on the northern side of the island.

Post of Tuesday January 22nd, 2013 4:50:05 PM: Those who studied the map will have a general idea of which way to progress from here knowing they need to, in general, head towards the East and Central portion of the Island. It seems the Pirate King may be using a decent sized river that flows from the central portion of the island and opens up into the Southern coast. You are currently west of that river... how far you can't be certain.

Post of Friday January 25th, 2013 8:38:14 AM: stay on the coast and battle the cliffs, stay close to the river and be easily visible, or trek through the jungle and face any dangers that may be found within.

DM Ian Holy crow! Very well done, Al! Go ahead an add a hero point to your character sheet! The only thing I have to say is that we never told you where the Pirate King was along the river...

Gerox replies, "I do but we have to be in sight of each other for it to work. Jungle isn't good for that. Moving through jungle with a group this size is going to be difficult as well. I guess we can try. Does anyone have any idea on how big the island is? I doubt the Pirate King will have patrols in the middle of the jungle where their are no footpaths.

Another thing to consider is these kobolds. We really don't know if they are connected with our pirate friend. They could just live here and he could have come later. If that is the case, then we might be able to exploit that. Pay them to be a guide or get some information form them."

In the morning, Barratore switches out of his Leather to his Breastplate and stretches our his muscles. Listening to Harvest over a dry and quick breakfast he nods his agreement. "Moving through the jungle lessens our chances of alerting the pirates. Do we have any ability to get a higher up view, or ask an animal?" He muses aloud to the group. The fighter had no idea what magic could do, only that it could do a great deal. Asking a bird where the the drinkable water was did seem a small thing to him.

"Through that we are going to need to stay pretty close. The noise we make blazing a trail will mask our armor. Harvest and Peza far out in front won't help if the rest of us don't know where they went we can't follow."

Harvest Moon takes the polearm from her back for the short trip to regroup with the others. She carries it gripped in both hands with the blade and spike pointed upward at the canopy of trees in the manner taught to her by Barratore Steelwind. Once regrouped, she takes in the surrounding jungle with great care. Each of the League Adventurers seems to feel this thing as well. EVERYONE please read the instructions at the end of this post. They are very important to combat!

The jungle remains quiet for a few moments. All wildlife has vacated the area, leaving no noise but the rustling of trees in the light breeze. The more perceptive members of the group can hear the river rushing by in the distance. Just as it seems all is well, Harvest's keen ears pick out the sound of bows releasing. Unfortunately, she is too late to warn her friends as they fly into the small clearing. Many of the projectiles miss their targets, but Gerox, Peza and Edson are all hit! They each take 6, 7, and 6 damage respectively!

Harvest is able to make out some figures to the north, north east, east, and south. It appears that whatever these things are, they have surrounded you. The dense foliage makes it tough to make out your assailants, likely the reason so many of them missed you. You all hear a low horn ring out through the woods. A war horn. Whatever is on this island, it's found you. And it doesn't appear to be happy.

Hello, players! Welcome to combat! A few things to say before I get into the specific rules -- first off, I would really appreciate if everyone put ALL of their defences in their header. AC/FF/Tch usually works best, with CMD tacked on the end. Also, Shawn, PLEASE put the link to your character sheet in your header! Otherwise, you cannot participate in combat, as I can't check any of your stats!

Second, the map. The brown area in the bottom left is a generally clear area. There is no penalty to vision. Anything more than ten feet away from you in the green area has partial concealment, so please roll a d100 for every relevant attack. A 1-20 on the concealment roll indicates a miss. The area in the top right is a small pond. The beige (sand) has no penalties, the blue is obviously water. Your characters may begin anywhere in the red zone. Please make a note of where you are beginning in your post.

Good luck, heroes.

His eyes immediately revert to the normal grey color - his ability to detect evil is gone. He looks around, trying to decide his next actions. The arrows are coming from everywhere, and there is no safe place to hide.

Still undecided, he mutters a quick prayer, and the symbol of an eye on his forehead shines in response. Finally, seeing the vegetation rapidly growing at the east and Harvest Moon charging south, he decides to go south as well. Drawing his sword, he backs up into the southern jungle, till he meets face-to-face with their foes.

ROUND 2

Harvestcalls out a warning to her companions too late, casting a spell to keep some of their foes busy while she pursues the squad to the south. As she approaches them, the half-elf realizes that they didn't look like kobolds from a distance because they aren't simply kobolds -- these dragon-kin are riding lizards bigger than themselves. The reptiles they ride appear to be about four feet long, and three high with grey-green scale and a deadly set of teeth. The kobolds are holding on my a thin scrap of what might be leather tied through the creature's mouths.

Hert likewise charges south, praying to his God for aid in the ensuing battle.

Peza snaps off a bolt through the foliage, finding a target and dropping the creature with one hit!

Brom charges forward, but notices the immense overgrowth in front of him. (Your Perception check was high enough to notice the area affected by the spell, so you don't have to run into it if you don't want to.)

Edson sends an arrow into the foliage, unable to strike his target. (We can see your character sheet now -- thank you!)

Gerox dives to the ground, preparing a spell. (Unfortunately, I don't know when you wanted to release that spell -- the SRD describes readied actions as such: You can ready a standard action, a move action, a swift action, or a free action. To do so, specify the action you will take and the conditions under which you will take it.)

More arrows fly from the dense forest, some finding their targets. Edson and Brom each take 5 and 8 damage respectively as the missiles strike them! More kobolds charge in from the south to attack the heroes that have come to confront them. They bear crude spears made from long polearms and a crude rock as a blade. One bears an odd headdress covered with colourful feathers and bright foliage (#12). It screams in a language none of you recognize as it drives its spear into Hert! who takes 12 damage!

Then, in a swift dancing combination of a kick and elbow strike, Harvest Moon strikes out at the Small Eyes in the way taught to her by Thelonious. The kick, even blessed clearly misses, but the elbow may have hit. The blow is glancing, and it is difficult to ascertain the impact before Harvest Moon leaps nimbly back from the foliage of the jungle and back onto the trail.

ROUND 3

Hert calls upon his divine powers to heal his allies, a wave of positive energy washing out from the cleric.

Harvest slashes at one kobold with her glaive, connecting easily, and her elbow manages to connect with the creature's jaw before she backs away.

Barratore swings his mighty sword around, hacking through one kobold with ease! (You are too far from the second kobold to cleave through it. Every second diagonal is 10ft, so #2 is 15 feet away from Barrator, outside his 10ft reach.)

Brom stops just in time to avoid his ally's spell. He rushes forward to meet the enemy in the dense jungle.

Peza loads another bolt, quickly dropping another kobold!

Gerox raises his hands and sends gouts of flame out to scorch his opponents. (Since #13 has already dropped, you only hit #13. From 8.17, you could have only hit one of them with the 15' cone Burning Hands has. UPDATE: Upon making the map, I realized I was being dumb. Your attack goes normally.)

Edson's arrow finds its mark, although his streak of bad luck seems to be continuing.

#12 charges Hert while #15 lashes out with an arrow at the cleric! Luckily, both miss horrendously. #14 continues its assault on Harvest, but its aim seems just as bad as its allies. Barratore and Brom both get an attack of opportunity as #4 turns its lizard to sprint off into the woods, its wounds too severe to go on. Seeing a bigger target, #1 and #2 lash out with arrows, but the kobolds are too frightened to bother aiming properly. #10 moves in close to aid its allies, ending its movement at 12-16. The kobolds stuck by the Entangle spell all seem to be having the same bad luck as their allies.

Wednesday January 30th, 2013 5:18:07 PM

The eyes of Harvest Moon dart from one place to another as she holds off the Small Eyes with a threatening growl. These Small Eyes are many, but they do not seem so skilled as fighters. Creatures can be fierce within their own territory. But, perhaps, it may be possible to befriend them as well. Perhaps. But not while they are so bold in numbers.

A feral grin rips across the wide half-elfish face of Harvest Moon as Peza's bolt strikes down another Small Eyes. Peza is mighty. And it is with this grin upon her face that Harvest Moon strikes out again at the Small Eyes before her. This time, instead of two swift strikes, she plans a more carefully executed one. This time, she aims deliberately toward a nerve cluster. Striking this nerve cluster should cause stunning pain. Her single snap kick rises high, to the level of her own chest, aiming at the soft tissue just under the chin.

Before even registering the effectiveness of the blow, Harvest Moon shifts her position once again. She crabs sideways back into the jungle growth. The Small Eyes are closing. They threaten Peza and Gerox Shale. They badger Hert. She will join with the human follower of The Gray One and lend her support to his.

With Barratore dealing handily with the kobolds in front of them, Brom takes a quick glance around and sees a kobold (#10) moving in on Harvest. Brom moving at a full charge (should be 55-ft to get there) brings his BAS (big arse sword) to bear against the creature.

Gerox head snaps left to right as he watches his comrades slaughter the kobolds around him. He almost feels bad for smaller creatures....almost. He looks at Harvest and calls, "A prisoner might be nice, I don't see Brom or Barratore pulling their punches enough to get one. Maybe you could salvage yours?"

Gerox moves back to 7.13 and scans the entangled area. If he sees a kobold, he will launch a magic missile at it doing 10 points of damage. If he doesn't see one, he doesn't cast. (Rolled my perception check and since it was a natural 1, it looks like Gerox scans the jungle and gets distracted by a butterfly)

ROUND 4

Harvest steps back after striking out at the nearest kobold, who dodges her blow just in time.

Peza continues to do what she does best, driving a crossbow bolt into the creature's chest! It manages to hold on, although seems quite worse for wear.

Brom's attack against the fleeing kobolds proves futile, but easily makes up for it. The dragonkin looks up at the barbarian with wide eyes before the sword is brought down on it! The dental records of this kobold will have to be pulled to identify the corpse.

Edson curses his bad luck, baking away from his opponents.

Barratore easily dispatches the kobold missed by his ally, cleaving through another one as he continues his assault!

Hert swings his weapon at his assailant, but the creature is too quick for the cleric.

Gerox brings up the idea of taking a prisoner before lashing out with a magic missile. (Concealment doesn't count for Magic Missile.)

The kobold bearing the large headdress looks around, wearing what might be a scowl on his face. It barks out a word in the same unknown language. It and its allies all jump off of their lizards, a few of them pricking the creatures with their spears on the way down. The lizards are whipped into a frenzy and begin gnashing their teeth, ropes of drool dangling from their maws.

#12 lashes out at Hert again, its lizard following suit. The lizard goes wide, but the dressed-up kobold sinks its spear into the cleric, dealing 4 damage! #14 attacks Harvest, instructing its lizard to do the same. The lizard manages to get its jaw around her calf, and the half elf can feel a toxin begin to spread though her blood. Please take 10 damage and make a DC 14 Fortitude save or take 1 ability damage to dexterity! #1 attempts to lay into the minotaur Barratore, dropping its bow for a spear. Both hit, dealing a total of 12 damage! Also, please make a DC 14 Fortitude save or take 1 ability damage to dexterity! Some of the kobolds manage to disentangle themselves and their lizards from the foliage, looking bruised and angry.

"The bite of the lizards holds poison!" Harvest Moon calls out the warning even as she feels her body reject the poison's debilitating effects.

Again Harvest Moon moves, shifting away from the Riding Lizard that had bitten her. As Brom comes to attack that very lizard, she finds a place that puts the Small Eyes between herself and Brom. Behind her, her eye catches the Riding Lizard of the Small Eyes with the very elaborate hat. It is placed directly between herself and Hert of Gargul. Harvest Moon sweeps her polearm in a great arc to threaten the Riding Lizard of the Small Eyes leader, and then uses the momentum to rise into a double snap kick to the head and neck of the Small Eyes that she has been sparring with. The first kick strikes the Small Eyes' ear hole. The second kick misses.

Brom dispatches the lizard with ease, further enraging its kobold rider!

Harvest uses the advantage given to her by her barbarian friend to strike at the kobold before backing away quickly.

Edson, sick of his luck with the bow, wrenches his sword from its scabbard, striding to his alles' aid.

Peza's luck finally ends with her first miss of the combat. (The dice roller giveth, the dice roller taketh away.)

Barratore is not as lucky as the monk as the toxin spreads through his bloodstream, locking up his muscles. Despite this, he drops the kobold and its lizard cowering before him with a flick of the wrist! (I'm not sure where you wanted to move to, I hope that's right.

Gerox strikes true again with his missiles of magic!

Hert swings and misses, despite his positioning with his allies.

The kobolds and their lizards still stuck in the entanglement scream with frustration as barbs and thorn cut at their flesh. The two that managed to free themselves spur their lizards forward, jumping off as they close in on the heroes.

#1 attempts to repeat its efforts on Barratore, but to avail. #14 gouges at Brom, dealing 6 damage! #12 attempts to use its lizard to flank, but its plan falls through. In the meantime, L12 attacks the approaching Edson, but the elf is too swift for the creature!

Brom the Rager. He is so very strong. It is impressive to dispatch the Small Eyes with but a single blow as he does with the one that she has been sparing with for what seems so long. Brom the Rager runs off to help Gerox Shale and Barratore Steelwind. Harvest Moon herself does a quick shuffle step into the Riding Lizard of the Small Eyes war leader. She launches a swift double strike at the beast, leaping to kick the side of its head and then coming down atop its snout with an elbow. Brom's target goes to dodge his BAS, only to have his skull crushed against the flat of his blade!

Edson considers his overall luck, regretting the results should it not turn around.

Gerox lashes out with another magic missile, striking the dressed-up kobold in the chest! The creature clutches its wound for a moment, staggering on its feet, before collapsing to the ground.

Peza does what she does best and releases a bolt into the neck of one of the lizards!

Hert lays into the nearby lizard with a swing of his sword!

Barratore moves to defend his allies, brandishing his blade to deter any kobolds that would cross his path. A lizard strides in front to strike him, but the minotaur brings it down with a swift attack!

Harvest steps forward to strike at the lizard threatening her friend, dropping the creature to the ground with a powerful strike!

Many of the heroes' enemies have dropped, but the remaining kobolds persist. They close in on the two fighters, but only one can reach either of them -- #5 swings its spear at Brom, missing wildly. The kobolds still trapped by Harvest's spell are simply screaming now. Perhaps calling for help? None of you can tell what these creatures seem to be saying.

"Yip!" Harvest Moon performs a celebratory skip while brandishing the polearm over her head. The last of the foes south of the trail has fallen to the League Adventurers. But now is not yet the time for triumph. She pushes her way through the brush to the side of one of the fallen Small Eyes, the one wearing the feathered hat and who had been brought down by the Magic Missiles of Gerox Shale. Perhaps they will not be able to speak with this one. Perhaps not. But still, they may yet be able to make themselves understood. Maybe.

"Be ready," she calls out to the other League Adventurers, "I will calm the plants and release the remaining Small Eyes from their entanglement."

Then Harvest Moon casts a quick blessing and bends to touch the Small Eyes of the elaborate feathered hat, stabilizing it so that it will not die. As she rises, she turns to her frenzied plants, prepared to calm them and set the remaining Small Eyes free.
