[Everybody take 250 XP for this last scene.]
Through longstanding habit, you keep watch throughout the night, but encounter nothing more alarming than a kobold who's had too much to drink. [Overnight, everybody regains their level in hit points.]
[Also, the kobold who saved Toregan is almost certainly from this tribe, but since this is the first I'm hearing about that incident, I didn't include him. :) This tribe is broken out among several villages, and only some of the kobolds from the other villages came to the funeral. So let's say that Toregan's kobold is from another village, and decided not to attend.]
In the morning, the tribe gathers for breakfast, and you are included. Breakfast seems to be mostly nuts and fruits, with some kind of hot porridge, served out into bowls entirely too small for you. But there's more where that came from.
After breakfast, Ka comes to find you. "Ready?" he asks. "I show you now where others camp." Once you have gathered your things together and are ready to leave, Ka leads you out of the village and deeper into the jungle. There is no path that you can see, but Ka seems to know where he is going.
You judge you've been walking for almost an hour when Ka stops. "I go no further," he says. "Camp is there--" he points straight ahead. "You keep going, you get there. I wait here for you."

Before leaving he takes a quick moment to discuss with the group the overall plans, "There's no way to tell exactly what will happen, but it's likely that there will be a battle, so everyone prepare for such. I'll have a bunch of offensive spells ready, but will also prepare a single casting of pyrotechnics to attempt to blind anyone who approaches as well as web to trap them if needed. I won't be preparing enlarge person, I fear it will just make Asteron a big target and easy to snare in case they have power over the trees."
He pauses but then adds: "Ah, yes...speaking of which...when I yell kri'sha haren, everyone shut your eyes immediately for a moment. The blinding spell hits in a very large area and I have absolutely zero power over who is affected, the only way to avoid being blinded is to not look at the light."

You begin walking through the jungle, and you fall into a marching order. Ragnarök takes the lead, walking about 30 feet ahead of the rest of the party. Yngvar and Asteron follow, with Faust and Toregan bringing up the rear.
The bad news is that Ragnarök's Perception isn't good enough to spot the pit trap before he steps on it. The good news is that, since he is so far ahead of the party, nobody else is caught when the ground under Rag's feet suddenly gives way.
Ragnarök, make a DC 25 Reflex save, or fall into the pit and take 6 points of damage.

Asteron freezes in place. Then, very, very cautiously, he follows Ragnarök's path, thinking that if the monk did not activate any traps before the one he fell in, Asteron probably would not either.
He does try to make as little noise as possible, so as not to alert those ahead of them about his presence.
DM Kathy d6=6 ; Monday February 25th, 2013 11:26:51 PM
Your efforts at stealth had been somewhat sketchy, but Ragnarök's startled shout pretty much puts an end to any hope of sneaking up on the camp--unless, that is, the camp is still pretty far away.
The rest of the group moves up cautiously, not wanting to make additional noise or set off any more traps. By the time you get to the pit, Ragnarök has successfully climbed out.
Looking around, you see no signs of anyone coming, and no signs of any other traps. Of course, you hadn't seen this trap, either, until somebody stepped on it. Is this all, or are there more traps? And if there are more, do you have a plan for dealing with them?
[I had forgotten about Ragnarök's slow-fall ability, so he should only have taken 1d6 damage instead of 3d6. Since I didn't know what the individual die rolls were, I re-rolled and got....6 points of damage. I'm taking it as a sign. :) ]

(ROFL on the damage rolls Kathy! - must be a sign indeed... question is what the sign means... soon to find out I think!)
Turning back to whispering Ragnarök quietly listens if he hears anything drawing near, or if they have roused intrest. Hopefully so far so good.
"Well... that wasn't exactly the plan I guess..." Rag whispers to his friends "Guess we ought to move on? Hopefully now we'll be able to see the next trap coming... whish we had a cunning rogue in our mid. I suggest we do like before and I go ahead of you by 30 ft"
With renewed faith, and at half speed, Ragnarök cautiously moves forward. Checking the ground, using a wooden stick he took from the ground, he pokes the ground in front of him here and there as if he's reading the surface beneath him. However he's worried death can also come from above so he keeps checking in front, his sides and above as well... hence the slower movement.

You recover yourselves, and form back up into your marching order. Again, Ragnarök leads the way, using a stick to help him find potential traps.
Maybe it's the stick, or maybe you're just more alert after that pit. For whatever reason, you do see the next trap before you step on it. It's a fiendish trap, that will send a massive log rolling down onto whoever is unfortunate enough to trigger it. And whoever is unfortunate enough to be standing nearby.
The rest of the group catch up, and you all look at the trap. There is the trigger, there is the log. Unfortunately, there isn't a good way to go around; the trees are very thick just here. And it looks as if it will be difficult to trigger from a safe distance.

DM Kathy Monday March 4th, 2013 9:42:49 PM Yngvar and Asteron continue to wait patiently. Ragnarök also continues to wait, somewhat less patiently.
Faust is not patient at all, and sends his familiar aloft to see whether anyone is approaching.
Almost immediately, Faust feels Wolfgang's attention being drawn to somebody approaching your position. Oddly, the approach is not accompanied by any feeling of surprise or anger or fear. If anything, the owl seems--bored.
Moments later, Ragnarök and Asteron hear somebody approaching from behind you, doing a reasonably good job of staying quiet.
Wolfgang continues to think that there are far more interesting things than whoever is approaching you. He seems more interested in scanning for field mice.

As Ragnarök hears someone approaching his muscles tighten... Unaware of what the Owl might have spotted he can only think someone is checking up on the traps... a bit strange perhaps that they are approaching from the rear...
He stretches out to see whoever is coming near... just a little further and he might actually see this person... just a little more... almost!... YIKES The next moment the Monk reached out to far and falls flat on his face into the dirt making it fairly obvious for any attackers where the Monk was hiding!! (Stealth NAT 1)

Asteron freezes for a moment. His instincts seem to have been correct... they are being either scouted, or followed. So, shifting his weight, he turns to where he heard the noise, nocks and arrow, and waits to see who, or what, is approaching them.
You better not be trying to ambush us... or you will get more than you expect... He mutters under his breath.

The person approaching you grows closer. You can hear whoever it is, but you cannot see them.
Then Ragnarök, straining for a closer view, tumbles from his perch, landing in the dirt with an ignominious thud!
The approaching person moves more quickly now, and you can all hear them. The bushes rustle, then part, to reveal--Ka.
"Ragnarök Scarecrow! Are you hurt?" he says softly. Then, "Apology. I wait. Time goes. Then big sound! Then more time goes. I start to think you need help. You need help?"

"Wolfgang stills scouts...it seems...distracted; but doesn't seem to be noticing anyone else approaching us. Hard to say why, maybe the camp is still a long ways from here and they cannot distinguish from where did the noise come and the traps are checked in a timely manner, regardless of being set off or not."
"Perhaps we should...keep forward...?", says Faust, gazing the path to come.

Rag nods at Faust's idea to move on. He tries to discern how much time there's left before dusk to set. (Survival : 21)
Provided there's still time Rag says: "yes... Let's move on... We did spot one trap out of two and we're still alive."
Not considering letting any of the Kobolds expose to the danger of the traps (they did burry a clan member earlier) Ragnarok falls into his scouting position... Avoiiding the debry of the last trap the wannabee scout moves 30ft ahead of the group at half speed... Again poking the ground with a stick he's not the most quiet though...

On the other hand, we have spent too much time here, and we should be moving soon. Either they did not hear the trap activate or did not care that it did. If it is the latter, then they will be completely unprepared for us."

Seeing that it is Ka approaching, you relax somewhat. Faust belatedly realizes what Wolfgang was conveying: Oh. Him. Boring. Faust suggests you may want to press on, and Ragnarök is inclined to agree, though Yngvar seems to be fine with waiting some more.
Asteron and Toregan bring up the possibility that the bad guys are underground. You ask Ka about it, but his Common isn't up to the task of understanding the question, let alone answering it.
When it is translated into Draconic for him, he answers in the same language Highlight to display spoiler: {"We never got close enough to see their actual camp. But I know of no caves or other underground areas in this region. There are caves farther downriver, but not here."}
Since most of you are in agreement, you move forward, leaving Ka here at the sprung trap. You make your way carefully around the fallen log, then continue on your way. With the help of his long stick, Ragnarök finds the next trap before it is triggered. You aren't sure what it does, exactly, but you can see the tripwire and warn your friends away from it.

Curious why Ka popped up but then chose not to go along Ragnarök examines the surroundings... a new trap was spotted but he has no clue what this is all about... would simply stepping over the trip wire be enough in order not to let the trap spring?!?
"Mind the wire friends... I suggest not touching the darn thing... do remember to no trip over it should we come back the same way... shall I cross the area first? "
Rag awaits answer from his friends but when they all seem to agree to cross the trap by not tripping the wire, Rag crosses first... heart pumping wondering what will happen. He goes very slow and check to see if there's no new wire a bit further. Aware of the details of the trap he hopes to gain some bonus to see possible others (small hint to DM Kathy ;-) )

[OOC: Ka came, on his own initiative, to see if you guys were okay. The elders had made it pretty plain that the people destroying the camps were your problem, not theirs, and probably gave Ka instructions not to get involved. It's possible that even coming to see if you were alright went a little beyond what he was supposed to be doing.]
You carefully step over the tripwire and avoid triggering the trap. As you continue on, you begin to wonder. Where is this supposed camp, anyway? You have not seen or smelled woodsmoke, which is usually the first sign of a camp. You can see no obvious trail, though you have a clear direction to go. Even Wolfgang, circling overhead, doesn't seem to see anything.
But then Faust feels Wolfgang's sudden surprise and curiosity. The owl has seen....something....and is circling back. All Faust can get, though, is curiosity and puzzlement. Whatever Wolfgang has seen, he's not sure what it is.
At about the same time, Ragnarök finds the next tripwire. Again, you aren't sure what this trap does, or how to disarm it, but again, you think you can simply avoid the tripwire.
And still there is no sign of this supposed camp....unless it's whatever Wolfgang has spotted. But the owl would recognize a camp, wouldn't he? He's seen plenty of them, after all. No, this is something of a mystery....
