Greetings all. DM Post incoming after class tonight. Ian is taking a break to get school things situated.

Harvest Moon catches the pirate in front of her off guard and stuns him with an uppercut, causing him to wobble on his feet and drop his weapon. He is out where he stands.

Peza lets fly a miraculous shot that somehow misses Barrotore and strikes the human he is fighting in the throat, sending him rather unceremoniously, into the afterlife.

Edson lets fly an arrow that goes whizzes past the head of his target just above its shoulder.

Gerox sends forth bolts of force that nearly beat the guard in the tower unconscious. Somehow he manages to stay on his feet, bow still in hand.

Hert swings at his target but strikes only dirt in a wild melee maneuver that could only be described as... well most people wouldn't actually classify it as an attack.

Brom thrusts his spear at the pirate attacking him. Pirate opens its mouth, to yell a command, he is forever silenced by Brom's spear as it enters his mouth and exits the back of his head.

Barratore is able to do some damage to his two target with his horns, but when he attacks Grul with his massive weapon, he strikes the building as he swings and does damage to nothing but the ears of all in the vicinity as metal screeches against stone.
-------------------

Grul counterattacks with two rapid strikes, the first is parried by the minotaur, but the second bites into Barratore's flesh doing 14 points of slashing damage as it gashes the large warriors bicep.

The Pirate (HM1) in the tower lets loose an arrow that hits Barratore in his massive thigh dealing 6 points of damage.

The Half Orc charges Harvest Moon but is wildly ineffective.

The Stunned pirate does little more than stand and wobble, fighting to stay on his feet.

The pirate next to him moves up and attempts to attack Harvest Moon as well but trips over his own feet.

She will hold them here. She must hold them here. Harvest Moon growls low and in her throat. Her teeth are bared as her eyes shift from one opponent to the other. Swift and sudden, she lashes out, kicking high with one foot to the face of the wounded half-orc. In that flash of movement, she wills her hands and feet to become hard as wood. Using the lift and the circular momentum from the rise and fall of her kick, Harvest Moon turns her body in a tiny leap. And when the foot lands, finding firm ground once again, Harvest Moon drives the other foot straight out into the knee of the Half-orc.

The cost of this is in the polearm. To even her balance the blade must necessarily fall back. She had planned to strike at the stunned pirate as he reached down to pick up his weapon. However, there is much doubt now as to whether she will be able to bring the blade about in time for an accurate strike.

"You will burn no more ships," growls Harvest Moon to the pirates before her. "You will be brought to law."

Here is the chance. Harvest Moon leaps after the pirate as he turns to flee. The polearm sweeps at his feet to trip him to the ground. Pouncing upon the fallen man, she strikes down upon him, not to kill, but only to drive him to unconsciousness.

Only a few hours remain between now and the arrival of the ship of the Pirate King. But that may be enough time to draw from this man some information about the ship. How many men crew this ship? Will the Pale Man be aboard as well? Who is this Pale Man? And why is he called such?

There are many questions, and these questions could save lives.

It is a grim business to be the teeth and claws that enforce the rule of law. But she has seen the result of lawlessness and disorder. In such states, happiness belongs only to the strong.

"I have captured one," Harvest Moon announces to all. "This one is only lacking consciousness. I think that we must, through pressure or persuasion, gain knowledge from this one about the Pirate King and his ship. We should, at least, know how many men are aboard. I, too, am concerned about the Pale Man and would know more about him."

"I will deliver a blessing to whoever might try this. Perhaps if we all gather 'round, we can aid in this thing."

"I will wake him when you are ready." Harvest Moon casts the blessing of Guidance, but feels less confident about persuading the pirate. Driving off foes or fleeing from them has always been the way of her life. Convincing them of her cause - this is a new thing.

Thursday April 4th, 2013 8:42:08 AM

OoC: Just to move things along here ...

Harsh measures, to be sure. Harvest Moon observes Gerox Shale as he prepares to put the pirate to question. There is something in the gnome that brings doubt as to whether he will truly put fire and steel to this man. But, one never really knows with certainty about such things.

With small grunts and growls, Harvest Moon drags the pirate to the indicated tree where she draws a coil of fine silk rope from her magic bag. (Has it been only a year? Four seasons past she could not have dreamed of owning a fine silk rope, let alone a bag of such powerful magic.) To the tree she binds the pirate, securing him at both ankles and wrists in such a position that he hugs the bole of the tree.

Harvest Moon then calls two blessings. One is of Guidance for Gerox Shale. The other is a blessing of healing. The healing, however, falters. Harvest Moon sighs. Perhaps she will need help from Hert of Gargul.

Gerox smiles evilly as he sees the pirate come back from La la land. He squats by the fire and adjusts the knife, pulling it out and examining the glowing blade. He frowns and puts the blade back into the coals for further heating. He starts talking but doesn't appear to direct his conversation towards anyone in particular. "Personally I don't understand why people fear fire. Fire is our friend" He pauses for a second and continues, "Well at least it is my friend." He places his hand into the fire's flames for a few seconds trusting his damage reduction from fire. "The flames speak to me. The speak truth to me. They don't seem to ever lie but burn away those lies with their cleansing heat."

He turns his attention to the pirate and says, "Ah I see your awake. That is good as we have much to discuss and maybe a short time to do it. You have come to a crossroads in your life. You have hard choices ahead of you and very little time to consider those choices. You are the only survivor of the pirate band we found here. We have killed all the others here. None have escaped. Our charter is to kill this "Pirate King". We have kept you alive for this one purpose. You will tell us of his ship, his crew, his allies and his plans. You will tell us of his weaknesses and things we can exploit against him.

If you choose to help us, you choose life. We will bring you back to Rum and speak well for you. We will push that you are banished and put on a ship heading back to civilization. You will have your life. Now if you choose to withhold information or lie to us, we will know. Our cleric will know if you are lying. His God grants him that power. Then I will introduce you to my friend."

Gerox turns away and shoots a beam of fire into the bonfire he built causing it explode in flames (Hit ac 22 for 6 points of damage) "My friend can also find the truth. He methods are painful and you might not like the experience but I am sure he would. He is always looking for food to grow."

He walks back over to the fire and plucks the glowing knife from it and saunters back. "So what is your decision? Do you wish to talk to us or do you want to meet my friend? Decide quickly! I have other things to do." He starts walking back towards the tied pirate the glowing point of the knife lined up with the pirate's eye.

It is interesting how the study of the body for the purposes of grappling and tripping down a foe also informs the binding of a body to hold it immobile or otherwise restrain it. Harvest Moon stands guard nearby lest the pirate attempt to slip his bonds and attack Gerox Shale. This remembers her to the knots taught to the League Adventures by the halfling Navigator Artus Morindim, knots that they used to lash themselves to the SeaSprite lest they be washed away in the storm.

The sounds and voices of the other League Adventures drift to the tree from the building of the pirates. Harvest Moon's mind drifts to the thought of what they might find within. A captain's log, including of the ships that the pirates have attacked thus far? An accounting of their loot documented with dates? Perhaps the loot itself, including personal items that might be identified as having come from persons perished in the attack of these pirates.

It would be interesting to read through these things. And they would be useful in bringing the Pirate King to justice.

The motion of Hert of Gargul, his hand touching the Eye remembers Harvest Moon of her duty here and now. Silently, from her place, she scrutinizes the pirate, observing his face and his body, searching for the telltales signs of prevarication.

Gerox's theatrics seem to have intimidated the subject quite well. "Ok, ok, I'll tell you what I know! Just keep that damned blade away from me!"

Harvest focuses intently on what the pirate says. He seems to be telling the truth, though you are certain he would be running for the jungle if he weren't tied up.

Edson doesn't find any traps, but he also can't get the door to budge on the first door. Going to all of the doors, only one of them unlocks. The one door that is unlocked seems to belong to Grul. On his desk is logbook. It is of nice quality, leather bound, and painstakingly stitched. It is neither moldy or mildewed, or even damaged for that matter, as one would expect from a book in the jungle. There is also a chest that is unlocked. Inside it contains 3 silver longswords and 3 silver battleaxes.

The pirate glances at Hert momentarily but is obviously more worried about the hot knife.

Barratore notices all of the crates have different company names, destinations, and such stamped on them. Most of them have a destination of Rum listed. These seem to be supplies that were destined for Rum but never arrived. Barratore begins to start hauling the bodies to the jungle but decides it might be a good idea to search them first.

Peza keeps her eyes peeled on the docks but aside form what Barratore has already found, she sees nothing.

Gerox will carefully place the knife back into the fire.

(ooc To save time, I am going to ask a bunch of questions. I would assume the conversation would actually be more question answer or conversational but hard to do in this format in a timely manner)

"Let's see, where to start? Why don't you describe the Pirate King to us? What does he look like? What is his real name? Is he a fighter? Or is he a spell caster? He was described to us as a "cow man" Is he a minotaur? Another was described as the "pale man". What is the pale man? Some sort of undead maybe?

Tell me about his crew? Are they human? How many are there? What are their typical tactics? What kind of weapons are on the ship? Catapults or other bigger weapons?

Tell me about what you store here? Any treasure hidden around? If we find some, we might even share some with you so you don't head back penniless. Is this the Pirate King's main base or does he have others?

Gerox will be watching his reactions closely (sense motive 18).

The eyebrows of Harvest Moon rise at Peza's question. A password. Of course. Her friend is very clever indeed. A smile touches the lips of Harvest Moon before her mind returns to the task at hand. There are many questions. It would be very interesting to know the history of this Pirate King. How does one such as this come to be a pirate? How is it that the Pirate King came to know the Pale Man? There are many stories here.

But these are not questions for this time.

"I have a question, Gerox Shale," interjects Harvest Moon. "Why is it that you burn the boats?" she asks, addressing the pirate directly. "In my reading of pirates I learned that the more kindly pirates are ... more successful. Ships that such kindly pirates pursue will surrender more easily and give over their goods when they know that they will live afterwards and then sail to their homes. A pirate who is known for killing all and then burning good ships, I think, would expect a very fierce fight and many wounded."

"So too, there is ransom of both the ship and crew that this Pirate King does not take. It seems to me that there are more reasons than gold for which the Pirate King sails the seas. What are these reasons? And ... " Harvest Moon cocks her head to one side, and looks up into the face of the pirate, scrutinizing him with a hard look as the question comes to her. " ... And, why would you follow such a person as this?"

Various mundane armor with holes in it not worth scavenging.
1 Key in a cloth pocket on Grul (This goes to the door that is unlocked, but won't turn the other locked doors.)

Peza makes some decent suggestions.

At the questions coming from both Gerox and Harvest the pirate begins laughing, almost maniacally so. After a moment he gathers himself and in between chuckles begins answering a few questions. OoC: I'm pretty sure that the Intimidate skill is less complicated that DMZach. Here's what it says about influencing attitude.

Influence Attitude

You can use Intimidate to force an opponent to act friendly toward you for 1d6 × 10 minutes with a successful check. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target's Hit Dice + the target's Wisdom modifier.

Success: If successful, the opponent will:

a. give you information you desire
b. take actions that do not endanger it
c. offer other limited assistance

After the intimidate expires, the target treats you as unfriendly and may report you to local authorities.

Now, you might add a bonus to the DC based on the factors that you described. But, I would think that as DM, you would have to decide that ahead of time to be valid. Adding a bonus after the roll strikes me as deliberately working against things. And ... the question that I would ask is purely mechanical, did Gerox's roll beat the DC?

She secures his ankles together, and then sits her weight upon the small of his back, his face down in the dirt and grass.

OOC: Yes, all of that is true, and yes, Gerox Intimidate did be the DC which was 10 + HD + Wisdom Modifier. However, two things I would like to point out.

1.You mentioned that the pirate would answer questions, take actions that don't endanger him, or provide limited assistance. Answering those questions would be considered treason by the Pirate King. The Pirate King would viciously kill, or worse, anyone who gave up information about him. Therefore, the pirate feels that answering the questions will either get him killed or lead him to a fate he feels is worth than death.

2. Because of this, I feel that the Pirate King has essentially "intimidated", for lack of a better word, the pirate that works for him. A rolled intimidate from the pirate king is 26 which is higher than Gerox's roll. The only way the pirate would give you the information he knew he would be let go and had a way of getting off the island before the pirate king arrived, which he doesn't.

And a 3rd point, which is irrelevant I guess, is the fact that I feel that intimidate, diplomacy, and bluff are more or less broken. As the rules are set up, a low level halfling bard can scare the pants off of a much higher level character, say a Half-Orc Barbarian just because the bards skill is super high and the Barbarian has a low wisdom. But again, I digress.

Anyway, I'll make a compromise with you guys on this since, "Technically" you guys are right. Doesn't make sense to me, but hey, what do I know.

The prison slumps down and stops resisting and is tied up once again. "Fine, I'll tell you what you want to know. I'm obviously dead either way. I just ask that after I tell you, you kill me and make it painless. It is better than what he will do to me. The Pirate King is not this.. cowman or whatever you said. That would be the First Mate, Kress. He's a minotaur if you haven't figured that one out. The Pale One is an apt name for the Pirate King himself. Let's just say, he ain't exactly natural. They are coming in, sometime tonight of course, it could be early tomorrow. There ain't no signal or nothing either, he ain't afraid of anything. Your best bet is to leave... now before he gets here. If you won't listen and leave now, then please kill me. Either take me with you or kill me... that is all I ask."

Peza is able to tell that the way the current in the river flows, as well as by how deep the river appears to be, that most likely the ship will pull in and anchor near the center of the river, then use rowboats to bring in any type of cargo.

Edson begins working with the locks and seems to be doing a great job, but he can not get past the mechanism. He can tell that the locks are certainly of Superior quality. The door is extremely solid, and not likely to be able to be opened easily as it is metal. The walls are stone. This is a very well built depot. Almost like a prison, or stronghold. Whoever built it certainly did not want anyone getting in or out. Without a key, it is highly unlikely that entry will be made.

Harvest Moon (AC19/Touch18/FF17; CMD 21; HP27/34) - Al
Friday April 12th, 2013 10:42:54 AM

A vampire ... It is little wonder that the pirate wishes death. Far preferable to the everlasting undeath in thrall to this Pirate King Nathaniel Morelock.

These thoughts Harvest Moon thinks as she pages through the ledger. If this book was found within the room of the Half-Orc Grul, then it is likely that Half-Orc Grul was the warehousing master of this place, charged with books and inventory for Pirate King Nathaniel Morelock. Though, the condition of the book speaks to it not having been her for long. Perhaps the book did not belong to Grul, but was only temporarily in his care.

Harvest Moon sighs and closes the book. Delay will not make the task less unpalatable. "Very well," she says, standing above the prone pirate. "You will have your wish. Do you have any last words that you wish us to speak to a loved one?" she asks before kneeling with one knee upon the back of the human. "Do not move," warns Harvest Moon. Then she delivers a blow to the back of the man's head that sends him back into an unconsciousness within which there will be neither fear nor pain. "I promised a quick death," says Harvest Moon to Barratore Steelwind. "But I do not think that I have the strength to strike him dead with a single blow. It is my responsibility. But, I would ask you to do this in my stead."

"The Pirate King is a Vampire," announces Harvest Moon after the last wishes of the pirate are executed. She explains what this means in as far as their upcoming battle might mean. "Daylight. Running water. Silver combined with magic. All of these will harm the Vampire."

She casts her eyes out toward the river. Running water to be sure. But with the vampire's power to become a bat or a wisp of gas, would they be able to hold it under the waters? Harvest Moon shakes her head in answer to her own question.

"I think that we must keep the ship here until daylight. We must prevent the boat from leaving, else it will simply leave and then return again at night when the Vampire Pirate King Nathaniel Morelock can walk about. In this way, we might separate the Pirate King from his crew. From there, we might fight them separately instead of facing them as one."

"Gerox Shale, do you think that you can burn the sails? Without sails, I think that the ship will not be able to leave."

"A vampire?... Are you sure, Harvest Moon? If he is afraid of running water, becoming a seaman strikes me as odd... He could have moved to the continent to become a successful bandit. And the fact that he stores silver weapons in his own depot... This just doesn't feel right. There may be more to this.

We could also use Gerox's magic to burn their ship completely. Some of them will make it to the shore, but they won't have a chance to regroup and will be easy targets."

"I've been studying the rivers ebb and flow .... it seems to be that the ship anchors in the deeper part of the river ... and they row themselves and the cargo in with smaller boats ... that could be a good ambush tactic if we can catch them rowing in the small boats .. mass firepower on them while they are engaged in rowing "

Peza spends some time checking out the cargo already on the docks ... looking for barrels of lamp oil or other types of oil , if she finds any large stocks ... she'll formulate a plan ... " the oil can be used as channel tactics ... we can pour oil in certain places force them a certain route and cover a flank for ourselves "

"Hey Gerox can you fire magic light the oil on fire of do we need torches ?? ... could be fun to burn some stuff " grins the raven haired girl

Gerox walks over to the pirate and feels his neck for a pulse. He quirks an eye at Harvest and murmurs, "softy". He stands and says, "I think you are all over estimating my fire magic's strength. There is no way it will burn down a ship or even all of it's sails. Still we might be able to make a trap. If we can find a way to spill some oil on the ship, I can set it ablaze easily enough. This is a storage depot and oil is a common thing found on ships for their lanterns and such. If we can find a cask or two and rig a way to break them on the ship, then it might be possible.

Of course we will be burning up a nice ship. Good prize money in those and this one sounds small enough for our band to run. Might give us some nice independence. Something to think about."

Barratore growls at Harvest, "I am a warrior of the Starlight clan and champion of Imod." Veins bulge in the Taurus neck and his knuckles whiten I clenched fists as he leans closer to Harvest, his hulking mass squaring to her smaller frame. In a deep throaty growl then, "You would do well to remember that."

With another growl, Barratore whirls from her and storms towards the building. He has no idea what he will accomplish inside, but he strides with purpose. The information about the pirate king being a vampire becoming a muddled fog in his anger at Harvest's request and the confirmation that a Minotaur was indeed part of this and the dishonor his actions were heaping upon him and his clan

Coming to a stop in front of one of the metal doors he strikes once with a great fist with a resounding Thung. He was not getting through that without a hammer or heavy mace and he was not going to risk his blade. Barratore. Stares at the door for a few moments and then returns outside.

"I have an oil that will make a weapon magical, but only enough for a single weapon." His anger seems to have abated to a degree, but clearly not all. "So what is our plan to be? They surely have a faster way to shore than rowing in a small boat if they need to."

The Heroes agree with the pirates request and see his life ended in the most humane and way possible.

The group tends to agree that it is highly likely that the Pirate King is a Vampire.

Tactics are discussed but nothing is truly agreed upon. There are silver weapons, but why would they have been kept here? What are in those other rooms? Will they be able to take control of the ship? How wise is it to try and ambush a pirate at night?

These are all questions that will hopefully be answered in the coming hours.

He is angry. She had offended him.

The eyes of Harvest Moon mirror her hurt and confusion as they follow the retreating form of Barratore Steelwind. She must think of what it was that she had done wrong. But, first, there was the task at hand. The promise. The wish of the pirate. Harvest Moon rises from the back of the unconscious human. It was her promise. It would have to be a task that she executes herself. With all of the self-doubt and hesitation that accompanies her own knowledge her limits, Harvest Moon draws the polearm from her back. The blade of the polearm would be the most appropriate instrument by which to accomplish this thing. With great care, she aligns the blade with the neck of the human pirate. Harvest Moon draws upon her concentration to make the cleanest of cuts. The blade goes up. The blade comes down. The cut is deep. It is quick - and, hopefully, without pain.

Later, Harvest Moon walks through the building, examining the rooms. She holds the book of Grul the Half-orc, comparing the entries to the room for any possible connection. She examines the stout steel of the doors and the stone of the walls. Then she exits the building and looks up to the eaves of the building.

"If we cannot enter the rooms through the doors or through the walls," asks Harvest Moon, "perhaps we can enter through the ceiling. It is uncommon, I think, for roofs and ceilings to be made of stone. We might break in through the roof."

Harvest Moon begins an abortive climb, searching for handholds and such. But the smooth vertical wall is daunting. She retrieves her rope from the dead body of the pirate. But how to secure it at the top? She recalls the grapnel of the dwarf Arno who remained in the hidden valley of the Catpeople. "Does anyone have a hook for the end of this rope?" she asks.

We hide on the dock, in the trees and around the warehouse and open fire on the ship as soon as we can. If we force the ship to turn and flee for open waters then we raze this depot and return to Rum. We can then supply for a vampire hunt and give better information to the authorities." Barratore looks doubtful at Edson and Harvest, "If they are any kind of sailors, they will be able to repair a broken rudder I would think. And even if not, what would you have us do? Flee deep into the jungle to whittle away the hours in the hopes the mighty trail we blaze cannot be followed. Even if they will not attack us, the kobolds will surely inform of our whereabouts."

"Vision is a problem for us in a night battle. Setting several blazes as the fight begins would allow of a full view of the battle and enemies. We need to soak several areas in oil."

We need to find a way to isolate the crew and pick some off. Either we make traps which will slow them down or kill them, trap the boat in the middle of the water with underwater mines to damage it and keep it from docking where we can attack with missile and fire weapons.

If we can find a way to stop the boat before it can dock with some sort of device, and soak it with oil and set it afire, that will keep the crew busy both fighting the fire and dodging our arrows. Any ideas on how to stop the boat?

She lifts her eyes to the grapnel of Edson Kazil while forming a reply to his thought upon a leader for the League Adventurers. What is a leader? Is the leader a teacher? No. Sometimes a teacher is a leader. But not always. In her life in the Contested Kingdoms, leader were, more often than not, bullies. They were also, more often than not, the strongest of a band.

"You wish a leader, Edson Kazil, so that we may be decisive? You wish us to bind ourselves to the decisions of one?" Harvest Moon looks about, her eyes finding each of her fellow League Adventurers in turn. Who would see all and make good decisions? Who's actions would she best understand?

On the talk of a leader, Barratore adds nothing, that was not a concern or thought at the moment. The magic of the oil did not last overly long, so it would eed to be applied when the pirates were close. Perhaps even after he and Brom fired their initial arrow volley.

Barratore takes one of the silver battle axes. He was not good with the smaller design of the weapon, but it would perhaps be better than nothing. He hands the Oil of Magic Weapon to Hert. "Take one of the silver long swords and apply this when they are close so that you can strike the vampire."

Barratore then sets about creating a thick line to divide the dock and to coat the first sections of it where a boat would pull up to let men off. "We can light it as they disembark A few oil soaked rags can be lit and thrown. Should do the trick."

Barratore also looks about for torch brackets, where the pirates have things set to provide light and makes sure they are set so that they will be on when the ship is coming. Even if those sources are inside the building

I listed the pitch and the oil, but most everything else is some kind of trade good, food, or something. Not much that can really be used against the pirate king and such aside from the oil and pitch. Also, most of those items still have markings that show who they once belonged to... using that and the logbook, the could potentially be returned to their owners.

Gerox smiles at Harvest and says, "You tall folk all look the same to me, especially in armor." We will never find a way to stop them but if we can slow them down, funnel them into kill zones and traps we can wound, weaken and pick some of them off before we get into hand to hand."

Here are some suggestions. Cut holes into the dock, disguise them and pitch some folks into the water or maybe trap them into nets? Yes they will eventaully get out but they will not be organized. Make some caltrops to slow down others and hinder their movement and then catch them in some burning oil?

Find a way to threaten their ship. Catch it on fire so some have to fight the fire while others fight us. Again it splits them up. Will we burn down the ship. I doubt it but it adds to the confusion.

Finally we need to concentrate on the minotaur and the vampire. Everyone needs to strike out at one of them first. I think the minotaur makes the most sense. If we concentrate a round of missile fire on him and take him down quickly, it will hurt their morale and make the fight easier. The vampire is going to be a bear. We have to stay away from him. If he closes, he can drain our lives away. Frankly the undead sicko scares the curl out of my hair."

Gerox paces a bit and then says, "Whatever we decide, we need to make a decision and get to work. If Peza is going to be our leader, this might be a good time to test her leadership skills. Oh one more thing, we need a lookout. I want a little bit of warning before that boat shows up!"

Harvest Moon squats on the rooftop examining the material of which it is made. Can they break through from above where they could not from below?

As she ponders the question of how to enter the locked rooms of the building, Harvest Moon also considers the ideas voiced by the other League Adventurers on preparations for fighting the pirates.

"I have seen mother birds, Gerox Shale," she says, "who draw cats from their nests by pretending a lame wing. I think that we might do the same to bring the pirates to your ... kill zone."

"First, I think, we must take the boxes from the dock. They are goods and should not be burned. We can place them at the sides of the building. Maybe we can hide behind them. Or, perhaps place the boxes behind the building. Next, we will pour the pitch and oil onto the wood of the dock and await the pirates. One of us ... I think maybe Edson Kazil ... or ... maybe Peza, can wear some clothing of one of the pirates. Place some blood upon the face. Pretend a wound. Disguised in this manner, this person must draw the pirates to the dock. Stumble into the door of the building maybe, and fall to the ground. Maybe sit against the wall and clutch their wound."

"When the pirates come to the dock, Gerox Shale or I can set the oil and pitch alight. The pirates will be burned and we can set upon them. We can shoot them with arrows and meet them at the edge of the flames so that they may not easily escape."

The half-elfish girl raises her head then. Her senses are alert. Had she heard something? mwahahaha ... What was that? The sound was mirthful. And it was evil. But was it real? Harvest Moon shakes her head. Only her imagination. Perhaps.

Hert gratefully accepts the Oil of Magic Weapon from Barratore and goes to get a silver sword for himself. Picking one, he makes several swings with it, trying it in his hand. He attaches his usual bastard sword to the backpack, and equips the silver one instead.

"Now that is a good plan, Harvest Moon! We can't really use Peza as a bait, though, pirates don't accept women to their crew. Other than that, sounds great."

Nodding at Harvest's idea ..." i think baiting the pirate king is an excellant idea .. but do you think he really cares about his own crew ?? afterall the prisoner was really really scared of the pirate king ... and felt he would be killed ... "

"We should set up a trap at the docks ... a fire trap with oil and pitch is good ... will give us a good visibilty at night ... not to mention will hopefully backlight the pirate king and his lackeys ..."

"Lets move the cargo away to save it ."

OOC: how much time to night ?? would like a little bit of a time frame ? to help us plan

Harvest Moon looks down from the rooftop, her head cocked to one side, a looks of curious confusion on her face. "Gerox Shale mistook Peza for a boy. Would not the pirates too do the same from far away?"

It is difficult. This thing of boys and girls.

"All this fuss for what?" Brom says grabbing some food-stuff out of one of the boxes. "So, what's this whole plan rest on? My plan's simple, attack the pirates on the dock, keep'em there and kill as many as I can. When I've killed 'em all, take the boat. If they don't dock, jump on the boat and kill'em all there. Simple enough."

Edson makes it to the roof, and finds that he can see jungle for several hundred feet. The roof is surprisingly, or not depending on your thought process, made of the same stone as the walls. It is obvious this building was not made in haste. In fact once one the roof, you say that it is actually made to walk on, and there is a locked metal trap door coming from inside one of the locked rooms. Edson notes that the locking mechanism looks almost identical to the mechanism on the downstairs door that seems to be where this door exits.

Looking out over the river the guesses that depending on the point, it is 130-180ft wide in various places.

The group speaks amongst themselves of leaders and plans and traps and such... how long will they talk before setting to action?

OOC: Not sure what is meant by "how much time tonight?". I am assuming you mean how long until nightfall. Best guess would be 4 to 6 hours until night fall. If you mean how long until the Pirate King arrives... all you know is that he is expected sometime tonight.

Edson looks at the lock and doesn't even bother. " Its the same one as the others, I am not getting into it."

When the Idea of dressing as a pirate comes up, he lights up like a child on some far away lands holiday.(lol)
" I can do the pirate routine. I was with the crew on the way to rum so I have a little bit of experience in the part."

Gerox says, "OK guys, I know this doesn't sound fair but I am going to leave the trap building and scheming to you guys. I am going to try and get some sleep. I think I will be much more effective with a full array of spells to use against the vampire rather than applying my weak arms to chopping trees or sawing planks.

Remember as you are building these traps, if you want me to set them off with my fire abilities, I need to be close. I have no fear of being caught in the flames if that helps as my resistance to fire should absorb most of the damage."

OOC I am traveling on Friday and won't be able to post until Monday.

Harvest Moon (AC19/Touch18/FF17; CMD 21; HP27/34) - Al

The mouth of Harvest Moon tightens in a moue of disapproval. She offers a stern look to the stone and steel that bars their way. Then, with a sigh, she lets the thought go. One does not always get what one wishes. Effort does not always guarantee success. But they had to try. The sin is not in failure. The sin is in never having tried.

"I think that the key is likely in the possession of the Pirate King Nathaniel Morelock," she speculates aloud. "A vampire can easily come to this rooftop. And perhaps he uses this trapdoor as a way to come and go."

"Let us go down, Edson Kazil, and help the others in preparations for the arrival of the pirates. I think," she says as she begins down the rope, "that with a helm from one of the slain ones, and some blood and dirt upon your face, that you would not be recognizable as an elf from across the waters of the river. Once the pirates are close and upon the dock, the ruse will no longer be necessary."

As she nears the ground, Harvest Moon releases her hold upon the rope and springs outward from the wall. On her face is a great grin of delight as she falls free. At the last moment she tucks and turns in the air, hitting the ground with her feet, taking the impact in the spring of her legs, letting the momentum carry her into a roll, and then rising from the roll to a stand.

"Sleep well, Gerox Shale," she says, with only the slightest of breathiness to her voice to indicate she had just leapt down from a height over twice her own. "We will work and be ready for the pirates. If needs be, I can throw flame very far, so you needn't place yourself in the path of harm should you not wish to."

Barratore grunts a basic approval at Brom, "Pretty good plan." He continues to cover the front section of the dock in pitch. Barratore adds with a low chuckle to Brom, "Perhaps they could talk them all to death?"

Upon completing the pitch project, Barratore sets several of the flasks of oil within the area of pitch. Using the shirts of the dead pirates he soaks the area a bit and jams a part of the shirt into 10 flasks and sets them about. Looking at the layout, he grunts to himself approvingly. "Should go up when the pitch is lit." he says to no one in particular.

That project complete, he starts moving crates out of the zone he intends to set on fire later.

Edson with the help of others, prepares his pirate disguise. (Roll a disguise check.)

Gerox goes to sleep hoping to get 8 hours of rest before the Pirate King makes his presence known.

Harvest helps Edson with his disguise before beginning to work on the traps with Barratore and the others.

Barratore prepares 10 impromptu Molotov Cocktails. Hert also helps him with this and the pitch project. (Please describe the trap one more time to be certain I have it.)

With all of the preparations complete darkness begins to fall over the island.

OOC: Any last minutes things that need to be taken care of... go ahead and do, otherwise the next post will probably begin combat. Or not. You never can tell.

Harvest Moon pauses in her labors. Something in the gnome is so funny, sleeping as he is. It is so tempting to take the end of a charred stick and draw upon his lip a dark mustache. The thought brings a smile to the lips of Harvest Moon before she quashes it with a frown. Amusing as it might be, it is an ill way in which to treat a friend and ally. Is she bad for having such thoughts, ponders the half-elfish girl as she returns to moving the boxes of goods from the dock? Even though she did not, indeed, act upon it? That question, in and of itself, does more to further thoughts of self recrimination.

Later, as the sun hovers atop the edge of the disk of the Wold, over the evening meal, Harvest Moon informs the other League Adventurers where her position will be. "I will be a very short eighty steps down river to the south," says Harvest Moon. I will conceal myself in a place where I can see a goodly ways down the river and return quickly once I have spotted the ship of Nathaniel Morelock the Pirate King. In this way, we might have a few more moments of warning before the arrival of the vampire."
