The town is abuzz with the talk of so many newcomers in so short of time. First the justicar and now a sage looking to open a school? It seems the boom might finally be coming to Bryn Baraz.
Revael and his son are stored away at a room in the Inn with orders to the innkeeper to keep an eye on them while the captured bandits are put in the old slave pens for safe keeping. The sky is darkening as night begins to fall, but may of the towns folks are still out and about gossiping.

Anrete asks the group if he can have a bow and some arrows, as he only has 3 javelins to throw at flying creatures.
The savage-looking barbarian proceeds to the market to hunt for some ingredients and gossips so as to prepare some new dishes for the companions to try.

Morgan responds to Keela's incredulity. "Not a magical academy, per se, my lady. The Star Mages have a monopoly on that market. This will be a Sages Guild satellite, specializing in knowledge and lore. Specifically, that related to the Chamber of Rhetoric, specializing in public relations, negotiation, diplomacy, culture, and politics. As well as the performing arts of music, theatre, and oratory. Some practical magic will be taught, but will not be enough to attract dedicated spellcasters." He smiles at some unseen memory. "I am a barrister by trade and a professor by happenstance, you see. And despite this location being far-flung, it is for that very reason that I chose it. I want the academy to be a driving influence in the development of Bryn Baraz, and be fully integrated into the community. Also, rich patrons tend to want their sons and daughters to put some distance between themselves and their families to foster independence during their schooling. Bryn Baraz will offer both."
Morgan quickly notices the gossiping and murmurs among the citizens of Bryn Baraz. "Pardon me, ladies and gentlemen. I will do what I do best."

As the townsfolk gather, she has eyes only for her husband. She runs to greet him and return his embrace.

Perception + 8 = 21 Sense Motive +8 (+2 Hero of Bryn Bonus) = 26 Alexi is too busy to pay much attention to all the hubbub of a Sage academy. He remembers he had planned to build some catapults but Bryn did not have anyone skilled to make them and then he cloistered himself in the temple for several months...
He shakes those memories away and gets with the Captain of the Guard to plan the defense. The walls would be manned, of course, but Alexi also wanted some mounted scouts at the far ends of the perimeter to act as couriours when anything was sighed. He also ask the Captain to put several scouts in Avis and patrol the tops of the cliffs for any attempt to enter from above.
He reminds Anrete where the armory is and to get himself as many arrows and javelins he needs.
He makes sure plenty of torches are ready and in place to be switched out as needed. Naturally, much of what Alexi is doing is duplicating what the Captain is also doing. Finally, Alexi realizes that he is hungry and the Captain has things well in hand. He heads to the Inn for a bite to eat and to discuss what their next move is.
"Will they risk an attack at night? My suggestion is for us to hide in Tarketh's grove tonight. If they attack does not come tonight but tomorrow, then we would be better off behind the walls during the day".

Garret agrees an ambush would be ideal (OOC: voiced on march 29), but not such that it would take them far from the town. Tarketh's grove is just outside the walls, within easy striking distance.

Sesha will eat, then take her time poking about the town. Alone in this place, she succumbs to the need for comfort, and removes Pot-pot from his hook and carries to pot about, stroking it absent mindedly.
She considers approaching Alexi, but he is busy with the captain. Anrete was in the armory, and Sesha wasn't quite sure she wanted to be alone with the barbarian in a room full of weapons. Keela and Garret were occupied with partners...
With a sigh, she steps along the perimeter of the walls, not quite sure what else to do with herself.

During her wanderings, Cyniq has kept an eye out, she was told to plan on being here for a while. Something more permanent than a rented room at the inn would be needed.
The cliffs had promise, and it looked like the locals were not thinking outside the box. As she wandered around, she couldn't help overhearing bits and pieces of conversation. She kept in mind the warning that there might be one or more bandits already established in town. It might be a good idea to get the young bandit she had befriended to walk around and see if he recognized anyone.
Heading off to find one of the locals in charge.

While some see to the defense of the wall ad others to meeting their families... All notice that something is off.
There seems to be a group of newcomers that came into town about the same time as Morgans group and tht while most of the towns folk assumed they were all together this new group has secluded itself near the feed store/silo/convenient abandoned building (with all the transition in email lets just say somewhere in town)

Garrett's keen sense notices the newcomers standoffish attitude as he goes about greeting the others. The hubbub of finally getting a school for the kids seems to keep most of the folk distracted from them but his own friendly nature of meeting everyone brings them to his attention.
He asks one of the ones that came in with Morgan who they are and at what point did they join their caravan.
He then makes his way around a building and out of sight of the Stand-off-ers and circles around, sneaking up behind the building they are huddled against.
Stealth +21 = 39
If he succeeds in getting behind there unoticed, he will either jump to the roof (if it is only a 1 story building 10' high or so) or climb to the roof (if it is a silo or two story building)
Jump (spending a Ki point) + 55 = 60 / 4 = 15' Climb +10 = 20 for first 12' Climb +10 = 16 for second 12' Higher?
Once on top he crawls to the edge to listen in any conversation they may be having.

While the decision as to where to spend the night, inside or out, is still being pondered, Alexi, after having a bite to eat and entertaining Hope for a little while with the day's adventure, he leads Lobo over to th stables, leaving the warhorse to a stable hand for grooming and such.
On the way back he thinks to stop by the temple and see how the younger son of Raeval is doing but notices the group hunkered to the side. Thinking it odd that they aren't mingling, clad to finally have arrived at Bryn Baraz and survived untold dangers to get there, he wanders over there to talk to them.
"Welcome to Bryn Baraz. The End of the Road, so to speak. Have you checked in yet? We will need to know your names and your occupations to get you registered for the Citizen Approval Hearing. I can start right now." Alexi digs into his backpack for his spare parchments and quill.
"You there on the end. Where're you from? What's your name? What's your occupation?" Alexi asks casually while getting a headcount of the group.

The group is sixteen strong, consisting of mainly humans, but with the notable addition of a large minotaur, a couple of half orcs and a gnome. All save the gnome are dirty and dusty from time on the road and the horses nearby look like they have been well used today.
The gnome steps forward to address Alexi with a friendly, welcoming smile while the rest of the group spreads out, slowly moving in a half circle around the group, not close enough to be threatening.. but still moving.
"Ah, good sir, Thank you. We're looking for an associate of ours. A man that goes by the moniker of the White Ranger.. I know, ridiculous isn't it?... but, you see.. he has something of ours that we would like back." And a woman nearby by clears her throat, "Oh, and he needs to apologize. Manners are important."

No one here goes by that name. Did this person steal something from you? If so, Bryn is the appropriate place to hold a hearing on the matter. Give me a description of this person and your complaint. I will bring it to our Justicar's attention and a search for him will commence. It is possible that he has entered under a disguise, if he is a criminal. What was this thing he is accused of taking?"
Alexi notices the rather obvious actions of the group and tries to stretch out the parley to buy some time.

The citizens of Bryn Baraz will not tolerate any lapse in etiquette, least of all potential ruffians causing a stir in their midst. Not that you are ruffians and not that you intend to cause a stir, by any means." He looks slowly to each member of their group as he speaks. "We know something of this 'White Ranger.' He has caused us a considerable amount of frustration, but under the auspices of the guardians of this settlement, his current whereabouts are unknown and guarded. In a show of good faith, I'm sure you wouldn't mind telling us what he owes you and what he has to apologize for?"

Some of the encircling men seem a little nervous when Anrete swing his big sword around, but most are unimpressed. The Minotaur merely snorts disdainfully towards the little man.
The gnome meanwhile looks between Alexi and Morgan with their conflicting stories and smirks a bit at them. "It's all confusing, isn't it? Where he is, who.. We know he's here and that you have him. Luciana Saw you bring him in, after all." He gives Morgan a toothy smile and gestures at his companions. "While I can assure you that I am no ruffian, I cannot say th same for my friends and they are rather angry that the White Ranger stole something near and dear to them." He looks back to Alexi, "Simply put, we want our money. He took it and he needs to give it back. Call it a trade since we took something dear to him that we'd like to see returned as well. As for the apology... Well, that's between him and Luciana. Suffice to saw that promises were made between a man and a woman and he didn't keep up his end. And stole her money on top of that betrayal."
Garrett easily makes his way to the roof behind the postioning bowman, unnoticed. The bowman is doing little more than getting in to place and is not yet getting ready to fire
At Keela's urging the townfolks are disappearing from the street.

Hearing the gnome's complaint is the last straw. Keela has had it with these people!
"Stole from them?!" she echoes. "Really? Well, imagine that! A thief stealing something!"
She glares at the assembled thugs. "You--all of you--listen here," she says. "The people of this town are decent, honest folk who have worked very hard to build something out of nothing. And then you people--thieves and ruffians!--you come and take from them. And now you come to us because you've been robbed. 'Oh, woe! The White Ranger stole from us!' And you seem to believe that the decent, honest, hard-working folk of this town will drop everything and help you because--why exactly? Because now you're kidnappers as well as thieves?"
She turns back to the gnome. "And...they're angry? Mister, I've ridden twenty miles today; I've fought a giant rock-monster; I've driven off ravenous wolves; and I've dealt with even more of these Domi-forsaken bandits. It's well past suppertime, and I'm starving. They should be worried about making me angry."

Alexi gives the group a glance then continues, but with a different tone, one with certain authority and no-nonsense. "But look here. If he stole something, that is money, you have chosen the wrong way to get it back! Instead of bringing our charge to Bryn Baraz, where our Justicar would get to the bottom of this, you have chosen to 'steal' something yourself. You have kidnapped one of Bryn Baraz's citizens! Do you know what that means! A life of hard work in the mines! You'd better re-think how you want to negotiate to get your money back, and QUICK!"

"Anrete however, I feel that one could bash heads all day long without breaking a sweat."

The gnome and those immediately near him are quite unmoved by the outburst from Keela and Alexi's declaration. Some o the edge look sideways at each other, but otherwise remain in position.
"I am afraid you're mistaken, my friend" the gnome says calmly, "this is not a negotiation. We will have the White Ranger and you can either aid us or be put down in front of all these town folk. We mean the town no harm, but if this comes to blows who knows what sort of collateral damage could occur."
The large Minotaur gestures his head towards Keela and grumbles something in its native tongue that causes the gnome to snort in laughter despite the tenseness of the situation. (If anyone speaks Minotaur let me know)

Sesha lets flow the magic she has been holding. Slowly her skin gnarls and hardens and thick wood-like plates jut from her skin. She finds her gaze drawn to the minotaur.
"That one, he could cause trouble."
As she resigns herself to combat, a familiar trickle of magic surrounds her. Smiling, she contacts her bound spirit companion even as a translucent disk appears before her.

She focuses her attention to those on the outside of the group, those who had been shuffling nervously.

"This is more than you signed up for," she says. "It's probably best to leave town before things get really ugly."

A dozen of the men on the ground count in the "unsure" category that Keela targets with her spell and of them, all but two turn around and head to their horses with grumbles of, "She's right... ain't worth it... we'll just hit up the ranches out of town on the way out..."
The little gnome just snorts at Alexi and then flies backwards some thirty feet to a roof top and unleashes a torrent of lightning that arcs through Alexi and into Anrete, Sasha, Keela and Morgan. (Alexi Relfex Save DC 24 or 33 electricity damage, save for half. Everyone else else save DC is 24 for half damage)
The large minotaur takes a step forward, though he stills stands fifteen feet away from Alexi, and takes a swing with his large polearm that smacks into the armored hero. (Alexi take 16 damage)
The two orcs let out bellows of rage and charge forward, one towards Keela and the other towards Anrete. The orc at Keela swings a massive axe towards her that takes out a chunk (Keela, 23 damage and 5 frost damage). The one at Anrete is not able to land a blow with his sword.
The remaining men on the ground level crossbows at the heroes and let looks, but the bolts sail harmless through the air. Five more arrows are fired at the group from nearby buildings and all but one land harmless in the ground. One lucky arrow lodged itself in Alexi's shoulder (Alexi 10 damage)
The bowman on the roof with Garret raises his bow to strike... only to be pounce on by a furious halfling!

Having summoned three bralani azata's, she places two of them to flanking the orc attacking Keela. The third is summoned next to the gnome that fired the lightning.

And BA3 shifts to Wind Form and prepares to let loose a blast of whirling winds. so the bralani have two natural forms, can I choose which it arrives in? If so, then I would have BA3 arrive in Wind Form and let loose a Whirlwind Blast against the gnome this round.
The admissions by those leaving that they intend to engage in illegal activities is enough to raise the ire of the Justicar. Glowering at them from behind her shroud of invisibility she considers the ground they walk upon, May the earth rise up, and the darkness within hold fast upon those of evil intent! Her lowered hand clutches at air and rises as she completes the casting of another spell.

Sesha sees the incoming electric attack but is not nearly nimble enough to dodge out of the way. Coughing as her skin smokes and burns, she begins casting at a rapid pace. Her motions and intonations take but a single breath to complete. She reaches to bend the nearest ley-line, but fails.
"Damn! All day long the power in this place has been like a cascading fall! Now of all times.."
Without any extra ley energy, Sesha still forces her spell into being. Her left hand throbs as some of its energy takes the form of a glowing disembodied hand.
Closing her eyes, Sesha whispers, "Alexi.", and focuses her mind on a mental image of her new acquaintance.
The disembodies hand steaks to the embattled Cleric, glowing with a soft white light. When it reaches him, powerful curative magic discharges into Domi's priest, healing not only all his wounds, but also soothing any other conditions and renewing his stamina.

In addition, Garret is not supposed to have improved vital strike, his BAB is not there yet. Only true fighter class like Anrete can have improved vital strike.

It's a tactical feat really. It allows you to move and still do more damage than you would with a single attack.You can move to flank and still throw 8d6 plus strength. Or you can move, get an 8d6 attack, and be in a great place to use your AoO and Stand Still to deny enemies a route to your party squishies. It's not meant to always replace full attacking.
It also helps against creatures with high DR. Why hit him 3 times for -30 damage from DR when you can hit once really hard and bypass DR with a large margin.

It does not specify what kind of attack action, Full or Standard. So it seems that the interpretation is open.

OOC: U can check out the FAQ at PRD, It did note that vital strike cannot be use for spring attack, or charge. And it did specifically state that it is used as a part of an attack action, rather than it is a standard action.
So actually, u cannot use vital strike for AOO or those "special" actions that gives u an attack. Rather u can only use it as part of ur attack action which is a specific sort of standard attack - u can only use for a standard attack or full attack.
From the SRD FAQ:
Can Vital Strike be used with Spring Attack? Can Vital Strike be used on a charge?
No. Vital Strike can only be used as part of an attack action, which is a specific kind of standard action. Spring Attack is a special kind of full-round action that includes the ability to make one melee attack, not one attack action. And the summoned creatures would have to be placed differently as well. So instead of flanking and attacking Orc2, I would have put them on Bandit 8 at N6 and P6, and the gnome at V6.
Cyniq will fly straight up to about 20' above the roof before casting scorching ray on bandit's 1 and 2, with bandit 1 taking two rays.

Garrett pounces on the bowmen before he can get a shot off and stuns the man and proceeds to beat him his stunned formed goes limp and rolls off the roof to the street below.
Alexi takes a step back to be out of the minotaurs reach and casts the spell to protect himself. (previous map position was pre-step)
Cyniq's summoned creatures appear as she planned and two banter while hacking into an unfortunate bandit (though he manages to still stand afterwards, while the other appears like a burst of wind and sends a blast at the gnome where he lands on the roof. The Justicar summons forth some disgustingly rubbery black tentacles that snare several of their foes.
Sesha steps forward and heals her new armored companion.
Anrete easily blocks the half-orcs strike and returns with a set of his own, though only two makes contact with his opponents flesh.
Morgan casts a spell and gets rewarded with a sweep gash from the minotaurs polearm with his long reach. (Morgan takes 30 damage from AoO, please specify and roll if you're casting defensively!)
Keela takes a step back, crossing paths with Alexi and readies to counter whatever the gnome may try.

The minotaur takes a step forward with a another great sweep of his weapon and chooses between the heavily armored Alexi or the soft flesh of the wizard in front of him... and chooses the easier target. He lands on solid blow on Keela (Keela takes 32 damage) before swinging the weapon to sweep Alexi's legs out from under him (Trips Alexi vs CMD 28) and then lays into Morgan (Morgan takes 30 damage)
The trapped bandits attempt to escape the grasps of the tentacles, but to no avail while the half-orc is able to pry himself free and steps out from their reach.
The half-orc by Anrete screams at the other raging warrior, spittle flying, and hacks away... to no effect.
Up on the roof the gnome floats a bit away from the azata while pulling a rod from his waist. A red bead quickly flies to the middle of the street (H,I/10,11) and explodes in a blast of fire that envelopes Alexi, Sesha and Anrete as well as igniting the building Garret is standing on. (Those targetted, 31 fire damage, Reflex DC 22 for half) He then looks towards Sesha, the apparent healer of the group and speaks a word of power that causes the world to go dark for the drow. (spellcraft folks, sure you'll make the DC Highlight to display spoiler: {Quickened Fireball and Powerword Blind}) (Sesha is blind for 3 rounds)

Garrett quickly sees a path through his friends to the vicious minotaur and takes it. spending a Ki point to give him extra speed, ending at O8. His Slow Fall 50' allows him to get off the roof with no problem.)

Crying out in pain, Sesha's world goes dark. It takes but a moment for her to recognize the spells cast upon her, but there is nothing she can do. Crying out, she feels the last of her borrowed energy sapped away before she is blinded. Unaware of any of the others, she puts her hands to her eyes and yells in frustration.
Relying on other worldly senses, she reaches out for ley-lines of wolds blood to empower her next spell. She turns her minds eye inward and channels arcane energy from the ley-lines into her body, picking out and eliminating the dark sticky strands of necromancy that have blocked her vision.

Spells in effect: Prot from Evil 9/10: This spell wards a creature from attacks by evil creatures, from mental control, and from summoned creatures. It creates a magical barrier around the subject at a distance of 1 foot. The barrier moves with the subject and has three major effects.

Keela drops to the ground, limp, but breathing.
Garret leaps from his perch to rush at the minotaur. The taur sweeps his polearm at the little monks legs, but fails miserably in the attempt and receives a tiny fisted bop to the nose that has him suddenly looking ill.
With the world gone dark, Sesha realizes what happened and removes the affliction.
Anrete bellows in rage and cuts the half-orc in front of him in half.
Alexi steps forward to put himself between the remaining half-orc and the fallen Keela and lashes out with his flail. He lands a hit, but fails to take the half-orc from his feet.
Morgan flies straight upwards, perhaps to safety? (Note: When moving at a 45 degree or great angle upwards (and straight up qualifies), you only ascend at half speed. Fly spell. Morgan is only 60' up)
Cyniq sends for three fiery bolts towards two of the bandits. While one is dodged, at least one hits its target.
The first two summoned Azata's continue the assault on the bandit sandwhiched between them. Azata's one strike misses, but the second Azata fells him. The remaining celestial sends another gust of wind at the gnome.

The taur takes another swing at Alexi's legs with his polearm and then trusts his half-orc companion to see to him (Trip against Alexi success vs CMD 33) and then drops his polearm and quickly draws a sword as his side to hack away at the wee monk before him and also attemps to gore him with his horn (Attack on Garrett Hit AC 31 for 17 damage and AC 33 for 5)
The gnome avoids the worst of the wind thrown his way and watches Morgan rise up and rises 15 feet upwards himself before pointing the wand at the scholar and sending up three rays of scorching fire his way, but only one manages to singe the sage's feet (Morgan takes 10 fire damage). The gnome then looks downwards and sends another chain of lightning through the group starting with Anrete and going to Sesha, Alexi and Garrett and the two Azata's on the ground (48 lightning damage, Anrete Reflex DC 24 for half damage, everyone else DC 22 for half)
The bandits that are able send another volley of bolts towards the heroes, but they either hit the dirt or the mundane and magical protection of the group to bounce harmlessly away

Garret grunts as the blows of the minotaur strike him. He spots the lighting just before it lands, and quickly steps to the side, avoiding the blast (Reflex save: 26, Improved evasion). He turns to face the growling minotaur and glances up at the rooftops before moving in (he has the feat snatch arrows, so if any arrows or other thrown objects come near him, he can grab them before they hit him). His body turns into a blur as the small monk turns and spins, trying to kick and hit the minotaur into oblivion. He shifts and moves around behind the creature so that if Alexi is still able to attack, they will be flanking it.
OOC: Flurry of blows with ki providing an extra attack: Hit AC/Dam: 31/7; 16/6; 16/10; 21/7; 28/5; 22/9. Wow, I think my dice are broken.
Oh, and just in case he gets an AOO for the trip on Alexi: 20/9

Bandit's 7 and 9 remain grappled with a CMB of 29, taking an additional 7 damage.
Azata #3 takes a couple steps to the side (moves to S4) and fires a bolt of lightning at bandits 1, 2, and 3. Each takes 21 damage, halved with a reflex DC 15. Azata #2 does not dodge the lightning, to which it is immune. Celestial: You will have to do better than that, little gnome! The Azata takes a step (Q5) and lets loose a bolt of lightning, aiming up for the Minotaur and the bandit on the opposite roof (B4). Both take 21 lightning damage, reflex DC 15 for half. Azata #1 moves to Keela's side, staying out of the range of the minotaur (stops at L8). Where it lays a hand across her brow and whispers words of healing, restoring 21 HP from cure serious wounds.
And, finally, Cyniq remains invisible and moves up a few feet, not wanting to remain in the same place from whence she sent the blasts of fire at the bandits. Calling upon the power of her bonded ring, Cyniq begins casting another spell. (Another summoning spell)

Morgan flies eastward until he is directly above the gnome bandit. He holds the gray circle of cloth outward and drops it, crying aloud, "Uroshnor!" With an audible pop, the circle of cloth transforms into a boulder 32 feet across and weighing approximately 32,000 pounds (if one had an eye for geology, that is). It swiftly falls and strikes the gnome (ranged touch attack vs AC 5 successful, 26 damage), plummeting to the ground and landing with a cacophonous boom.
ooc: I dispelled a shrink item spell, transforming a circle of gray cloth into a Gargantuan boulder (several of them are listed in my equipment tab). While this isn't exactly in the rules, it is likely that a 30'-wide boulder wouldn't simply knock the gnome out of the way, but would smack him in the air and take him all the way to the ground. He would somehow have to find a way out from underneath or risk suffocation. Anything underneath him in a 30' circle takes the same amount of damage.

Alexi's failed attempt to trip the half-orc has detrimental effects as he himself is tripped by the minotaur. The half-orc takes advantage of this vulnerability and makes a slice into his armor, then a lightning bolt flies by, or through.

IC: "Anrete, your're a sight for sore eyes!" Alexi exclaims. He then activates his Barkskin tatoo, giving him a +2 to his Natural Armor. Thanking Domi the Mintaur dropped his polearm, he Alexi hastely gets back to his feet.

Seshas returning vision treat her to a very grim place indeed. As the blackness fades she is treated to the sight of another lightning bolt crackling through the battlefield. She watches in horror, in an out of body moment, as she is incinerated by the blast of magic. Time slows and bends as she regains control of her mind, and nimbly dodges out of the way.
"Dammit! You miserable little creature!"
Sesha reaches again for the ley-lines of Bryn Baraz, disappointed a by the weak grasp she finds. Channeling her magic at the sorcerer, the drow child gathers power as great as any she can wield. Convoluted tendrils of magic reach for the sorcerer, winding and slithering through his brain, attempting to reduce him to little more than a simpering fool.
Finally, she looks to the prone Alexi at her feet. More intonations of magic, passed from one witch to another for as long as their kind has existed, leave her. This magic is urgent, hasted, quickened. She reaches down and lightly brushes her fingertips against Alexi's armor to finish her spell.
He sees a vision of himself, large and powerful. The magic is his to accept if he wishes. He may also refuse.

Garrett whirls in a blur of fists and furry feet against the minotaur, landing several blows.
Keela's breathing settles into a more natural rythem and some of the color returns to her cheeks.
Cyniq begins to summon more aid while her three current summons do their work. Two sends out bolts of lightning towards the bandits while the third heals Keela.
Anrete rushes foward to engage the remaining orc while still splattered in the gore of its brother. He lashes out with his might blade against the sword of the orc, and while it's a powerful hit, the blade withstands the blow, though it is certainly worse off. With the focus off of him, the half-orc stabs at Anrete, but the blow skids of the barbarian's armor with a show of sparks.
Morgan positions himself over the gnome and drops his cloth before turning back into it natural state... but as the shadow of the large rock falls on the gnome, the little wizards darts to the side enough to avoid it as it whooshes by to crash into and thoroughly destroy the building below.
Sesha expresses her frustration at the little gnome and sends out an attack against his very sanity.. which he frustratingly resists. In an effort to make Alexi an easier target she also enlarges the knight.

The mean minotaur lashes out at Garrett, but perhaps distracted by the massive rock that landed nearby seconds ago can't land a single blow.
The miserable little gnome glares up at Morgan and sends out another volley of scorching rays.. but the first one lands so solidly (Crit hit and confirmed for 32 fire damage to Morgan that the other two are just fired into the air. The rod in his fists is then pointed towards the group below and another red bead streaks towards the ground to erupt in a blast of fire that engulfs Alexi, Keela, Anrete and Sesha (Alexi, Keela, Anrete and Seesha, 43 fire damage, reflex DC 22 for half)
Still caught in the tentacles, two of the bandits thrash about to no avail and get maimed some more.
The remaining bandits reload and fire again. This time, Azata 1 takes two in the chest (Azata 1 takes 8 and 6 damage)

Sesha rolls away a second time, taking only some of the intended damage from this hellish gnomes magical assault. Panting heavily, she coughs on the smoke and slowly climbs to her feet. Her ears ring as she kneels again, reaching towards Keela.
Clasping the womans hand, she gives her spirit a simple command.
"Stay, for now. There are yet those who need you! "
Standing again, she glares at this destructive evil creature that has caused so many such harm. Reaching deep within her quickly dwindling well of power, she again tries to assault the gnomes mental capabilites.
With practiced haste, she again evokes wispy tendrils of magic at the gnomes mind. This time however, the spells power is greatly reduced. Still focused on dismantling the gnomes ability to harm her allies, she draws down more dark magic upon the enemy spell caster.
Two mental attacks. One to disorganize, the other to disarm.

ooc: The text of the spell states that flying "requires as much concentration as walking." Since I am unconscious as a result of the scorching ray, I cannot concentrate and fall to the ground. Also, I only float down if the spell duration ends. If a character with enlarge person were to die, then they would have a Large-sized corpse until the spell duration ended. If I were somehow raised from the dead or brought back as an undead, then I could still fly for the remainder of the duration.

With fireballs and rays of fire dropping people left and right, Cyniq finishes her summoning spell delivering 2 more Azata's to the field. With the gnome now the center of her focus, Cyniq places them to either side of the gnome, in wind form.
Azata #1, @L8, (rd 1) 52 HP, picks up Keela and moves to K4. Azata #2, @Q5, (rd 1), takes another step to R5 and releases a second lightning bolt, striking at the minotaur, half orc2, and bandit 7. 18 lightning damage each, reflex DC 15 for half, bandit 7 is grappled and can't dodge? Azata #3, @S4, (rd 1), windform, glares at the gnome and blasts a whirlwind at the creature, causing 16 damage, Reflex DC 17 for half. The azata then moves to an adjacent square from the gnome. Azata #4, adjacent to the gnome, windform, Celestial:Wha's up?! Gnome bashing? Count me in! and throws off another whirlwind blast, 13 damage, reflec DC 17 for half. Azata #5, adjacent to the gnome, windform, Celestial:Aww man, I was winning that hand of gin too! and throws off another whirlwind blast, 9 damage, reflec DC 17 for half.
Should the gnome attempt to move away from the three azata, here's their AoO's: hit AC 19, 15, 15; and the last two would be at +2 for flanking; damage 9, 12, 12.
Bandits 7 and 9 remain grappled with a CMB of 22 (+5 for grappled prior round), if still grappled, they take an additional 6 damage.

Just as Keela takes a strong breath, the air fills with fiery and she falls back.
Just as Keela falls into the darkness, Sesha forcabley pulls her back to the living and then lashes out a the gnomes mind again. However, once again, the stubborn gnome fights off the mental attacks. (saved 23 and 24 respectively)

Morgan's succumbs to the flames and plummets down to the top of his own thrown boulder with a wet crunch.
Garrett unleashes another set of furious blows against the minotaur.
Cyniq shifts her focus to the gnome and sends a ray of magic at the other wizard to keep him from escaping. Meanwhile her summoned beasties set to work, one carriny off Keela to safety, another blasting away at their foes, and three more sendings gusts of wind at the gnome. The little gnome is like a leaf on the breeze however, and floats around in the sudden gale, buffetted, but not nearly as much as he could be (saves 19, 19, 21)

The minotaur roars in pain and frustration at the little gnome and the lightning that courses through him and swings again and again, but gets only air and dirt for his efforts.
Surrounded by the celestials, the gnome looks down at the minotaur being beaten and frowns. There is a look of remorse on his face before he casts a spell on the defensive, concentration on leaving no opening as he does so and then fades from sight. For Sesha only Highlight to display spoiler: {The gnomes go invisible and then flies off northward off map.}
The half-orc facing Anrete hacks away some more with his broken sword, but once again can't land a blow against the raging barbarian.
The remaining bandits sends another volley of arrows the heroes way, but seem half-hearted about it. They seem to sense that the tide is turning and the sound of the other members of their group that were affected by the Suggestion spell riding away makes that option sound like an awfully good one.
to Cyniq: When you're grappled you get -4 to dex, but are still able to get reflex saves, dodge etc.

Cyniq realizes the gnome is casting a spell of invisibility, by the forsaken gods! The wizard is invisible! Frustrated with the knowledge she won't be able to do anything, Cyniq turns to what she can do. DROP YOUR WEAPONS AND SURRENDER!
Even as she yells this, her summoned minions continue to press on while she casts see invisible on herself.
The black tentacles continue to grapple with a CMB of 34, causing another 8 points of damage to bandits 7 and 9.
Azata #1, @K4, (rd 1) 52 HP, uses his last cure serious wounds on Keela for 22 HP. Azata #2, @R5, (rd 1), adroitly slips inside the reach of the minotaur (acrobatics 23) to R8 before swinging with his scimitar, hitting AC 27 for 13 damage. The evil board ate all my rolls... but...
The remaining half-orc is quickly felled by Alexi and Anrete's attacks.
The minotaur succumbs to Keela's fireball and the various attacks against him and crumbles to the ground with a final roar.
Several of the remaining bandits are brought down by the fire and lightning sent their way and those remaining that are able scramble off the back side of the buildings away from the heroes.
Unfortunately, the bandit it front of Garrett that he would like to apprehend is one of those that is struck by the Azata's lightning and drops limp to the roof.
For Sesha.. and anyone else that can see invisilble. Highlight to display spoiler: {You're too far away and the gnome is facing the wrong way to see if your spell has any effect, but the small wizard continues to fly off as fast as he can before dropping out of sight behind a building some 100' away from the site of the battle.}

As the din of battle comes to a close, a man cries out in anguish. "No! Master Washburn!" The old man pointed out earlier by Morgan as Whitesmith rushes forward from behind the corner of a nearby building. He stops at the foot of the boulder and whispers a few arcane words, gesturing with his hands. Morgan's body rises in the air and drifts down to the street slowly.
The old man drops to his knees and crushes the lifeless body in an embrace, shaking softly as tears well in his eyes. He brushes away a patch of matted hair from Morgan's brow. "We had such plans, you and I." His voice is choked and rasp with emotion. "I will finish it, dear friend. I will finish our dream. Sleep now. Drop your burdens and sleep. I will see you on the other side." His trembling fingers close the lids of Morgan's eyes and he whispers. "In mortis est gloriam."
He rises and lifts the body in his arms, his thin frame straining to bear the weight. "I will see to Master Washburn. I will... bury him. In the garden of the new school. He would have wanted that." He turns and shuffles down the street toward the gathered mass of workers and scholars who had traveled from the Sages Guild in Plateau City. A burly man takes the body of the professor from Whitesmith and they continue on, toward the future site of Bryn Baraz Academy.

OOC: I remember an e-mail saying that Sesha had 1 round to bring Morgan back. Unless Morgan wants to 'pass on', it seems like bringing him back is still possible.
IC: For Alexi the battle isn't over yet. The gnome is still free and then theres this Luciana still to deal with, who probably holding Raevel's wife as a last bargaining chip in this fiasco. Not to mention the few escaping bandits.
Alexi calls out the Bryn Baraz militia, which has wisely stayed out of the fight up until then, "Close those gates! Get them! Don't let them escape!"
He gives the dying minotaur the slightest glance as he moves on to locate the gnome. [b]"Alright you miserable gnome, you played your hand and have come up short! Cease and desist or we'll be forced to bury you underneath your bullheaded friend so his rottin' stinking corps fouls your own rottin' stinking corps!"
As he says this, Alexi positions himself as best he can to get as many of his friends within 30' of him (either before they move or after) and utters a prayer to Domi.

Alexi glares at Sesha but then his eyes soften. "If he had stayed and surrendered, we could have offered life imprisonement for his crimes. Now that we will have to chase after him, that offer is off the table."
Then Alexi becomes aware of Morgan's fate and becomes resolute in the chase after the gnome, but also determined to pry the full truth out of Ravael! Other than a woman's pride hurt, it seems he stole some money from the gang. How much and why did he not come forward with that? It is something to considere that he came to Bryn and bought his ranch with coin. But it was coin gotten from stealing from inocents! Raevel may have turned a leaf, but there still are crimes to answer for.
Alexi turns his attention to the fleeing bandits and with the help of the militia, with the gates closed and nowhere to go, they are rounded up rather quickly and with the other two entangled in the magical black tentacles, tosses them in the others that were captured out on the ranch.

The bandits under the affect of the Mass Suggestion ride hard for the gates as they were prompted and manage to make their way through before the orders to close them make it that far. There pace does not slow as they ride out of town towards the blight and given the beating their group received today it seems unlikely they will return any time soon.
Of the bandits caught within the squirming tentacles, one has fallen and the other barely clings to life. The three bandits that had been on the roof disappear into town, but after some searching are found by the towns folk and surrender when they see they are closed in. By the time someone is able to get to the spot where the gnome was last seen there is no trace of the wizard.
Under the heroes direction a fire brigade is quickly organized and the burning building is seen to. The building is a loss, but the miner that lived there takes a vocal part in the fire brigade and vouches that the house was unoccupied.
A runner approaches from the Inn where Ravael and his son were stowed away, waving his arms frantically. "They're dead! The guards on the door... They're still in there!"

"The guards!" The runner says and then turns around the rush back to the Inn with the heroes in tow.
At the Inn the common room has emptied of any occupants as everyone in the town is either helping with the fire or seeing to their own families. The bodies of the two men that had been guarding the door lay slumped in the hallway, the wooden floor stained red around them and the door into Ravael's room is ajar. Faint voices come from inside, while whispering.

Sulking behind the others, Sesha continuously curses the little gnome who resisted her so well. Many spells were used to incapacitate him, and nothing worked. The sight of the blood pulls her from her musing, and she quickly readies whatever reserves she has left.
While the others may prepare to enter, she checks to two men for any remaining sign of life.

Careful, don't disturb the area, I want to see if there is anything that will help in identifying the assailant.
Fully into her role as a jsuticar, her emotions take a back seat as she focuses on the crime itself.

'Raevel would not do this and risk the life of his sons again. He has a lot to answer for but if he wanted to go chasing after his wife, he would not have to kill the guards, just knock them out. AND he would leave his badly injured son behind knowing he would be safe and in good hands.
No, this is still the work of the gang!'
"Luciana!" he blurts in anger and clentched fists. He has half a mind to execute the prisoners right then and there in revenge for the two guards but stays his anger.
"That door's ajar," he whispers to Garret. "Sneak over there and have a peek, he urges the gnome.

Once someone looks inside the door what happens seem fairly obvious.
Ravael half lays, half sits on the bed with his feet on the floor and his back slumped against the bed and his head resting on the wall. His hands are pressed against a pillow to hold it firmly against his stomach and the formely white linens are now stained a dark shade of crimson. The son kneels beside him with his hands over his fathers to add pressure to the pillow and both look towards the door at any movement.
On the floor near the bed is the body of Luciana with a short sword laying next to her and a dagger in her chest.
From below, the door to the Inn slams open and a militia man rushes in, yelling up, "She's at the gates.. Maymel! Her and another woman!"

Knowing that his healing may prevent Luciana from dying, it is worth the risk in order to heal Ravael, his sons, and his friends too.

Luciana is? one of the bandits that apparently left before combat started? she is now laying dead or dying at the feet of Ravael. A gnome that is at least as powerful as I am is apparently not leading the group, which implies that Twoblades is either more powerful, or has some hold on the caster. Otis, another bandit, and his companion were captured at the ranch and are prisoners. Bandits 1,2,3,4,9 are hurt and captured, bandit 5 is unhurt and also captured.
Cyniq finishes her review of the two dead guards before taking a look into the room as Alexi casts a healing. Ma'am, I understand your anger, that may be premature. There is recompense needed for the trouble caused to the town folk, as well as blood money for the families of the dead guards. Cyniq addresses Keela and gently motions her out of the room.
Interesting, they tried to kill Ravael, but wanted him captured... someone needs to stay here and keep an eye on things while the latest arrivals are addressed.

The healing provided by Alexi is enough to bring Ravael back from the edge if death and he visible relaxes and slumps into unconsciousness. Luciana, however, was beyond such healing.
The youth looks up from his now recovering father to face the heroes, "Thank you for Savin' my Pa." He looks towards the corpse beside him on the floor, "that lady burst in here and started hollerin' something fierce at Pa. Kept sayin she wanted him to run off with her and get the good. Pa said he refused to leave Us and Ma and that there wasn't any gold.. Then that crazy devil tried to kill him."
He looks back towards his father with a bit of awe in his yes and voice, "Never knew Pa could move like that. Ended up wrasslin' one of her knives from her hands and stabbed her with it though she got him too."
Down below, the guard explains further, "Didn't looking Maymel was being held by the woman, looked more like she was helping her walk. Should we reopen the gate and let 'em in?"

Alexi is rather relieved at Ravael's improvement. A lot of people have died today, one of his new friends, all because of this guy. To have him killed at the very end would have been a real bummer.
"I'm not entirely sure the gnome won't come back once he finds his gang is decimated and his leader is dead, and some stolen money still on the loose. I'll stay here with him while you go see to Maymel's safe escort here," Alexi volunteers.
Next, he gather's up the weapons laying about.

Ravael, at the moment, is stable though not conscious and would need to be carried. The boy, however, is eager to come.
Either carrying Ravael or not, the group makes there way to the gate to see that outside is an older woman of Ahote appearance In skin, hair and face, but dressed like a towns folk. She is leaning against a young woman with shoulder length auburn hair pulled up into a pony tail and skin that's weathered from time outdoors. No bandits are in sight and by not even the dust cloud from those fleeing on horse back has settled.

You see a young woman with shoulder-length auburn hair tied in a ponytail. Her eyes are the color of earth, with small flecks of gold near the iris. Her skin is pale but weathered, with outdoor living evident in her features. She is dressed in a loose-fitting traveling outfit of red, black, and white. She is of medium height and lanky, with a wiry frame and straight posture.
With one hand supporting Maymel, she waves her staff in the other toward the gate. "I am Else. Can we come in, please? This woman is exhausted and dehydrated and refuses to rest until she sees her husband and son." She turns her head toward the nearby treeline and calls out. "Sandy! Would you be a dear and watch the road to make certain the bandits don't come back?" From out of the forest ambles a large bipedal plant creature roughly 12 feet tall. It appears to be made of ropes of swampy vines, with exaggerated forearms and numerous unblinking eyes on its 'face.'
Else turns back to the gate, somewhat straining to support the Ahote woman. "Please?"

OOC: I don't know why we'd carry the unconscious Ravael out there when the two sons are quite healthy enough to go and Alexi volunteered to stay back, but Garret was going to stay at the door but now he's at the gate, and Keela puts Ravael at the gate, so I guess he's at the gate.
IC: On the way to the gate, Alexi appropriates a stretcher brought out to deal with the dead bandits and places Ravael on it and with Anrete's help gets the unconscious White Ranger to the gates to 'see' his returned wife.
He remains quiet as the parley at the gate ensues but does wonder what has gotten into Keela. Nearly getting killed, again, murdered Bryn folk she knew, and now being married seems to have a detrimental effect on her hospitality.
"Keela, she was probably thinking that her younger son was safely on his way to Bryn, so she was naturally more worried about the older one that was wounded, ergo her referrence to just 'My husband, my boy,' Alexi says calmly.
From his postion, though, he can not see what Anrete was referring to. "Hey, are you giving up on your beef stew already? he hollers out.

If Sandy the walking tree is intimidated by Anrete's obsession with food, it certainly doesn't show it as it moves to follow Else's orders.
Raeval's now-complete family is escorted to the temple in order to see to their condition and/or make sure that all of them remain within Bryn Baraz until legal matters are settled.
The dust settles from the battle and the prairie that surrounds the canyon returns to its wide, lonely, wind-swept expanse, practically as though none of the above had ever happened...
The newest arrival is now free to officially introduce herself to the rest of the party.

The young woman gives a nervous smile to Garret. "Well, I'm glad one of you is friendly so far. Between threatening to jail me and eat my friend, I was worried you folks might be less than welcome." She walks Maymel forward until she is taken by local townsfolk who can walk her to the nearby temple for healing. She turns back and dusts off her hands. "I am Else. Sandy and I came down from a few leagues north toward this town - she called it 'Bryn Baraz,' right? - because some bandits have been making a terrible mess of the local ecosystem. Overhunting, garbage at every campsite, even a campfire that would have been a forest fire if I hadn't come along. I assumed that a settlement would be a good place to find more information, and we came across Maymel wandering in the road. Do you know anything about them?"
