Aftermath

DM Kathy
Thursday June 6th, 2013 12:27:05 AM

You don't know how many hours have passed when you awaken, but awaken you do. You are lying in the clearing. There is no sign of Tunks or the kobolds. You are alive. Your companions are also alive. Nobody, it seems, has made the trip to Gargul. At least, not yet.

You spend some time assuring yourselves that yes, you are all here, and yes, you are all still alive.

After a time, you notice the note, pinned to a tree with a dagger.

Boss said not to kill you, which is why you're still alive. You want to stay that way, you come to Town and apologize real nice-like. Maybe you get to live.

Or, you can go back to your stinking Trading Post and die with the worthless losers there. Your choice.

Oh, and you ain't got much time.

Tunks

"Ouch... "

Ragnarok crawls onto his knees and looks around... Bruised an battered and with a nasty gash from Tunks blade...

"This didn't go the way it should have... No way I'm going to Town... We need to patch up and strengthen. "

(Jorge) Asteron Worldtraveller AC 18/10/16 -- CMD 23 -- HP 1/43 -- Rage 12/17
Thursday June 6th, 2013 4:16:07 PM

Asteron bellows in pain, even before opening his eyes. He's got gashes and bruises all over his body, and feels utterly spent. He looks around, but does not try to get up just yet.

"By Imod! I feel like I have been trampled on by one of those really, really big giant lizards!" He spends the next few moments making sure nothing is broken, even though he feels like everything is. Then, as the note is read, his face hardens.

"I'd rather die rather than work for this 'Boss'. In fact, I was at peace with just that. Not that I have a death wish, but life without honor is worse than death!" His words drip rage. A deep, rolling, unforgiving rage. "We could not take this... Tunks this time, but one day he and I will meet, and only one of us will live to speak about it. The honor of the minotaurs demands it!"

As he finally gets up, he looks at his companions and asks, "So, what now? I vote for defending the outpost, but you have been good allies, maybe even friends. So I will listen to council on this. Cowardice dictates that I go to Town and submit. Honor demands that I defend the outpost, even if it means death. So, what council ye?"

The minotaur seems worried. For once, he is afraid. Not for himself, but rather afraid that he will not be up to the task of defending those that depend on him.

OOC:

Sorry, I did not ask this before but, what was Asteron's share of the loot last time? He did get a silversheen elixir, so I do not know if that has to be discounted from the coin he would otherwise get.

Thanks!

Thursday June 6th, 2013 10:39:34 PM

Faust takes some time to wake up, also taking long to even get up, asserting that indeed he is alive and this is not just the weirdest and most unexpected form that afterlife has.

Once he does, he shares his mind, "We really can't trust this town...hell, from their actions I bet the druids would be even willing to join us against them."

"And yes, I do want to go back to the outpost but...what can we do?"

"I mean, sure, I'm confident we can trade blows with the kobolds and stand victorious, add some traps around the outpost, something like that. But....this Tunks guy...he's a monster; as we are we don't stand a chance...we're not even an actual threat, unless we manage to get him unprepared and use all in our arsenal...in such case...maybe."

You gather yourselves, and your composure, and take stock. You quickly realize that going to Town now would be a mistake--although Town will need to be dealt with at some point. Your best bet is to head back to the Trading Post.

So, back to the Trading Post you go. Your progress is perhaps a little slower than when you set out, but you are still strong adventurers, and it's going to take more than a near-death experience to stop you.

You reach the lift, and haul yourselves up to the top of the plateau. Before too much longer, you are back inside the palisade surrounding the Trading Post.

Pen comes out to greet you, and stops when he sees your injuries. "What in Alemi's green Wold happened to you?" he exclaims.

I sometimes wonder what the company was thinking. Especially after the welcome I received after joining this expedition, and then to find that this town has some pretty decent muscle. More than our group was able to handle. And that was just one person.

Yngvar limps off to his room, I will have to reconsider my employment here.

Asteron smiles dryly. "What happened to us, you ask? Well, one human rogue, three kobold ragers and one kobold user of magic cleaned their bottoms with our collective combat abilities, that is what happened." The minotaur winces in pain as his armor presses on a sore spot. "But at least we can tell you this: a bag was given by the rogue to the kobolds, the kobolds will attempt to destroy this outpost somehow, and the bag was sent by the Boss of Town. So our outing was not entirely a failure, as we now know more than we did before."

The aching taur towers over Pen as he asks, "Now, would you be so kind to see to it that our wounds are mended quickly? We are of no use in our current, sorry state."

"Yes, they were also better equipped than us...at least the Tunks guy was...his sword was glaringly magical."

"Either way, focus the healing on the combatants, most of my spell list is already gone for the day...I'll try to scribe some scrolls to make up for the loss, but regardless I won't be in top shape until the morning."
, adds Faust, hoping he'll be able to get some scrolls written before the inevitable happens.

Guess the best idea is to create Web and/or Scorching Ray scrolls, Web for an attempt to impair kobold advancement, Scorching Ray for damage, though Web sounds like a better deal.

How big is the outpost main gate?

And I keep forgetting to write scrolls in nearly all of my free time....too long since I last played a wizard...

[[OOC: Regarding loot distribution, no I did not factor the Silversheen's value in mind, divided by 5 it's 50gp each, not a huge amount and it is an item that'll benefit the party, not the character. But if you guys disagree, we can re-do the math.]]

"Bad judgement... that's what happend... real bad judgement.
We're gonna need to get to full strength as fast as we can so every healing you can provide is going to be needed... and then we'll need to prepare for a Kobold attack..."

Then Ragnarök falls silent... tired, bruised and battered he goes to find his room and just crashes on the bed...

Just before he falls into a dreamless sleep he mumbles:

"Note to self... appraise your opponents before rushing headlong into battle..."

You give Pen a quick rundown on what happened. "Well. I'm glad you made it back in one piece!" he says.

It is just past noon, you discover, so you were unconscious for a couple of hours. And now, many of you would like to be unconscious again for a while, to rest and recover spells if possible.

Before that happens, though, you need to be healed of your wounds. Pen produces a Wand of Cure Light Wounds. "I have this on hand for emergencies," he explains, "which this seems to be. Er, you can use this, right?"

Toregan can, indeed use the wand, and he soon has everyone up to full health. Lunch is available from the inn if you are interested; otherwise, you can rest. Or at least, you can try. :)

I apoligize for my lack of posts, I've just had little time to make a post lately because summer courses suck the life out of you.

Toregan limps quietly along with the group, all the way back to the post. He snaps out of his dazed state as Pen gives the group the CLW wand. "I should be able to use this on us. Many thanks Pen. I'll get in one of the watchtowers and keep an eye on the plains. From what Tunks was saying, we don't have much time. I'd watch the lift side of the Post as well. They may come from there." After healing the party, Toregan goes to the inn to take a small amount of food with his the the watchtower, and proceeds to climbs up one of the watchtowers to scan the plateau for any sign of an attack.

Ignore all those rolls. I misread the post and was rolling for the wand.

Patched up Ragnarok feels a lot better. Right now the only damage that remains is to his ego.

"We may need reinforcements... Do you think our Kobold friends would be willing to help protect the Post? I would be grateful for some rest though... And I get you magic wielders could use that too?!"

Before I forget again, everybody take 1900 XP for the previous scene. Also, everybody gets a hero point because you guys were darned heroic. :)

You have a chance to rest after the noon meal. Toregan spends that time at the lookout post, watching for the attack you are sure to come. As the sun begins to go down, you get the feeling that there is something unusual happening, way out at the edge of the plateau. You can't tell what it is, exactly; there are trees and bushes in the way, but something about it feels...wrong. And then the sun sets, and darkness conceals whatever it is.

You are able to rest through the night, and recover spells the next morning. Still, as the sun comes up, you can't help but feel more battles lie ahead of you.

Monday June 10th, 2013 11:13:43 PM

I expect that a night attack is most likely. They can see in the dark, we can't. Coming up with something to quickly extend our vision range is going to be key. I think switching to a nocturnal schedule will be a good idea as well. Probably need to get some water buckets filled and staged as well.

Yngvar rubs a sore spot, the injury from yesterday still vexes him, though he expects it's just in his head. Maybe some alcohol will dull the pain. Another ale please.

Asteron wakes up sore all over, but as he goes through a series of combat moves, his prowess seems unaffected. Good, at least I live to dish out more pain, he mutters under his breath. He spends the rest of the day making himself useful carrying anything and everything he is told. Then as the sun comes down, he decides for an early bed. Third watch for me, as usual. But wake me if there is need. With that, he goes to his room, and soon his snoring fills the hallways.

This should get everyone to lvl 5, is the cap for hero pts still = level? Is the exp for a hero pt only for those given other than level up?

Yngvar heads over to Pen's Can you see about getting some flasks of oil, tindertwigs, and torches spread around? If we get attacked at night, I want to be able to start tossing torches out over the wall to extend our vision range. We'll need some water barrels and buckets scattered as well.

Ragnarok likes Yngvar's idea to find ways to extend their night visibility. Further he spends the day filling water buckets in case of fire attacks.

"Any bird we can send up in the sky to scout ahead? Or else... If you consider this wise I'm willing to scout ahead a little... I can run pretty fast so if I run into trouble I can get back here in no time..."

Toregan Helps out where he can throughout the day, be it filling buckets and barrels of water, or gathering torches and fire sources/ He stops bye Gazzy's shop to check with her about her inventory. "Hey Gazzy, you wouldn't happen to have any sunrods or alchemists fire would you?"

After checking with Gazzy, he continues to help out with anything he can, and when all is prepared, he goes up to one of the watchtowers to keep lookout on the plains around the Post

Buying as many as 10 Sunrods and 5 alchemists fire from Gazzy if she has them is stock. Best to be prepared.

You prepare for a night battle, and take turns with the watches. But, despite the activity that Toregan thought he saw at sunset, the night passes uneventfully.

You have the chance to rest and renew spells. Toregan is able to buy 5 sunrods and 4 alchemist fire from Gazzy.

Early the next morning, it begins.

Somewhere, the sun is coming up, you're pretty sure. But there's a mist drifting through the trees and the Trading Post, cutting down on visibility and giving sounds in the area an eerie, muffled quality.

And some of those eerie, muffled sounds seem to be getting louder. And coming closer. You peer through the mist, but it's difficult to see what's coming. It gets louder.

"One thing we might want to consider for the future some sort of easy mass defense...say, an amount of dried up leaves we can scatter in safe distance and set ablaze or something."

"Either way, for now I wish to know the measurements of the main gate and other possible entry points, if at all possible, I wish to cover those with Web; considering we might be against a high number of enemies, my magic prowess will go to waste if I attempt to fry them one by one."

Did Faust manage to make any Web scroll? It takes 2 hours for each.

If it's a siege we're going to have to hold the fort untill they get up close and personal... I don't have ranged abilities. So either we go outside and suprise them from the flank or we wait...

But we need to know what it is that's coming our way... "

He isn't finished when Ragnarök runs out and into the treeline. Well, friend monk, I do hope you make it back alive... Asteron decides not to voice his thoughts, lets ill befalls the monk.

What he does is to stand at the gate, bow at the ready, and sword at his side, with the intention to lose the arrow towards the first enemy he sees, and the biggest one if he sees more than one.
