Hert AC 24(23ff 11t) HP 47/47 CMD 16(15ff)
Monday May 20th, 2013 7:08:44 PM

Hert reads the diaries of Nathaniel Morelock just like the rest of the group. He is completely absorbed in the reading, but does not share his thoughts on the read. Reflecting on the past battle, he attempts to scold Brom:

"Listen here Brom. You nearly killed Barratore there. If you had struck a bit stronger or if I had arrived several moments later he would be on the other side by now. It was purely by mercy of Gargul that we have survived back then. Had the vampire not been silenced, he would finish all of us off without breaking a sweat!

Before the fight we discussed in detail that it was too dangerous for you to approach the vampire. We had damn good reason to say so! If you continue to do whatever you damn please in those fights, you'll get us killed. It can't go on like this, Brom."

Later, Hert awkwardly approaches Gerox and speaks to him:
"I uh... I happened to overhear a bit of your conversation, Gerox. Well, the one about your powers... Sorry about that, but I thought I should clear something up for you. The thing we fought was not really Nathaniel Morelock. When a being gets turned into a vampire, they lose almost all of their past self. Strong black magic takes over a being, destroying their soul, the most important part of any living creature. A vampire can only retain an outer shell - their appearence and their memories. It may seem like much, but it isn't. One's self, entity that makes all decisions, has its own hopes and dreams is replaced by a ball of hatred and blood lust. It is a rare enough kind of evil - the kind that kills the soul directly.

Now you are different from that vampire. I don't know much about your blood, but I can at least guarantee that every choice you make on your path will be your own."

As much as the wilderness is growing on her... the city girl is looking forward the comfort of the city .. its it its own wilderness ... the back streets and alleyways ... the intricacies of the lives of people building and growing they're lives ..... the coming and goings of the port ... with that thought she finds time to study the ledger ... she studies who is shipping what to whom .... building a working knowledge of the politics of commerce in the port city of Rum .... the real life blood of the city and its foundation ... after all that is a key part of the WLA ... gathering infomation ....

Hearing Hert talk to Brom ... Peza winces ... wondering if the barbarian will go into a full rage .. ;-) she waits till he is calm .... then approaches him

" Hert means well .. i understand his sentiment ... we need someone to help communicate while in battle ... thats all ... there will be no constraints on what you do ... all i ask is that you fight along side of Barratore... side by side ... charge together ... stand together .. ... because the two of you are the strength of the group in battle ... we rely on the two strongest to turn the tide of battle ... your blades carry us to victory ... the rest of us will fight in support of you two ... that is our strength . ... we'll fill in the gaps with bolts , magic and courage "

The raven haired girl settles in for the cruise back to Rum ... ideas circle in her head ... Rum is growing ...WLA's presense must also ... time to work on building a network of infomation ... smiles Peza

Is it over? -- DM Zach
Monday May 20th, 2013 9:22:19 PM

The group all sympathizes and argues with each other at great length over the course of the ship ride home. They return to Rum, with it being much the same as before. The Bounty Board seems to be seeing quite a bit of use, and there are many familiar faces about. Seeing the Vampire Pirate King and his flag to the proper authorities should most likely be the first step, that and securing the reward money.

5,000gp award to the group for returning these items. This may be the last time I post as your DM.

Your new DM's are going to take over here soon.

It has been a blast, and very insightful DMing for you for the past 5 months. Maybe our DMing paths will soon cross in other games. Good luck, and may your dice always roll Natural 20's!!!

Barratore enjoys the voyage home from the bow of the Sprite. There was a certain invigorating calm that he found in the spray of the bow. It was hard to put the feeling to words and so he didn't bother. The battle with the pirates and his own near death a fading memory. Life was short and the life that has called him was generally even shorter and so dwelling or brooding on things that were done seemed of little value. Certainly there were things to learn from mistakes made and survived, but those things did not include looking for someone to blame. Barratore was out of position and that mistake cost him. He wouldn't let it happen again, lesson learned.

As the ship pulls into the docks of Rum, Barratore looks to Harvest, Edson and Peza. "Any of you see dung face and his cheerleaders. Wouldn't surprise me if they make a play for our bounty."

Barratore wants to head directly for the bounty office and out gold in hand.

Zach and Ian, Good gaming with you. See you about the other boards

Gerox smiles at Hert and says, "I appreciate what you are saying. Have you ever had a long conversation with a fire elemental? Their motivations and drives are a bit different from normal folk. That is the power that is driving my magic. I have control over it now and will strive to always but it is good to know that I have friends who will put me down if I get out of control."

Gerox smiles when the Barratore strides off. He summons a riding horse, mounts up and trots after the minotaur warrior. "Hey! Look I decided you weren't going to carry me so I got this fellow. Magic can be handy sometimes and we can use him to help carry our reward!"

He looks behind him and says, "Come on Harvest! We need that flag and the head!"

She, at first, does not understand of who Barratore Steelwind is speaking. ... dung face ... Then the dawn burst upon her, and Harvest Moon covers her mouth with one hand as she grins and chuckles at the name that the minotaur has given to Sculley Swiftblayde.

"I will be watchful, Barratore Steelwind," she says, and then Harvest Moon starts as Gerox Shale causes a horse to appear where no horse existed before. With a curious nose she circles the beast. It is a strange horse that does not smell of horse. But such is magic, thinks Harvest Moon with a mental shrug.

Eyes and ears open for a possible ambush, she follows the rest of the League Adventurers as they make their way from the docks to the compound. It will be good to trade for their bounty. It is ... disconcerting to carry about in one's possessions the severed head of a vampire.

OoC to Outgoing DMs: Thanks, Zach and Ian for carrying us this far.

OoC to Incoming DMs: Do you think it might be possible to up our bounty for this? Through a miscalculation during the wealth realignment we went through a few months back, we all wound up behind the curve in the wealth department. With the current loot, Harvest Moon, for example, will be at 9414.21 gp. She's just shy of Level 6, and wealth for Level 6 should be 16000. That's a difference of roughly 6500 gp.

The Bounty - Co-DM Mark
Tuesday May 21st, 2013 4:29:52 PM

Hi Rummers! Co-DM Mark at your service.

Having arrived in Rum, priorities are set -- the bounty. Barratore and Gerox wish to waste no time in reporting the death of the Pirate King and make there way to WLA Headquarters, beckoning the others to follow.

WLA Headquarters is a hive of activity.

Various groups of adventurers are lined up at the bounty window, bandaged and dirty, looking for their rewards.Clerks are hustling between the warriors and wizards, carrying books and ledgers to unknown rooms. A fully armored Captain Theringer is impatiently directing a trio of minotaur who are in the process of loading the bounty board onto a cart, destined for its new home.

There is a buzz in the air.

When the captain spots our heroes waiting in the bounty line he shoots them a relieved grin. He looks about to greet them when a young half-orc addresses him and motions to a dozen armed men milling near the entrance. With that Theringer marches out the door calling to the posse who immediately follow his lead.
"Look lively men, we don't have time to waste".

To the Players: I miss you guys already.

To the New DM's: Al is correct, we did miscalculate the wealth by level. I would suggest either front loading the magical items in the first module to catch them up, or increase the bounty we are giving them, from say 5,000gp, to maybe 20,000gp. The did just come through a heck of a battle where their were nearly 3 casualties. Up to you, but something will need to be done ASAP.

It is so busy here in Rum when compared to the relative emptiness of Vampire Pirate Island and the seas between. The eyes of Harvest Moon track first one person, busy upon an errand, then another. Her head turns this way and then that. It is like following the movements of fish. Very difficult. And so, it is with relief that Harvest Moon greets the smile of Captain Sal Theringer with one of her own. She holds up by the hair the head of Nathaniel Morelock the Vampire Pirate King, but the eyes of Captain Sal Theringer have moved on.

What is this?

It is difficult not to drag the head of Nathaniel Morelock the Vampire Pirate King upon the ground. A head is surprisingly heavy. Harvest Moon grunts and growls struggling with the weight as she makes her way to the door and pokes her head around the jamb to see what might so draw the attention of the captain of the Woldian League of Adventurers.

Meanwhile Barratore, delivers the head of the Pirate King and his flag to the Bounty clerk. In return a large sack containing 5000g slides across the counter.

Cesspools?

Security?

Political ...

This is very curious. And, now relieved of the burden of The Head, Harvest Moon trots after Captain Sal Theringer and his group as they make their way toward the place where collects all of Rum's filth and offal.

As she goes, the thought of the gold is much upon her mind. How could she ever have dreamed that such riches might one day come to her hands. It is sometimes quite staggering. It causes her to wish to flee to a place of safety where she might hide the gold and stand watch over it, growling at all who might approach to take it from her. But common sense tells Harvest Moon that such gold is of little use when hidden away. It cannot be eaten. It cannot provide shelter. Gold. It is like love and caring in that it does no good unless it is passed on to or exchanged with others.

But what, indeed, should she exchange for the gold? Perhaps a visit to the Catacombs store. Yes, that might be best. And her library. How much gold is required to build a library? She would have to study this thing.

Such are the thoughts of Harvest Moon as she follows the contingent of security on their way to the cesspools.

How can you be disadvantaged in a new colony. Sure their will alway be richer and poorer people. The is the way of the world but this place is almost brand new and growing like a druid tended weed. Edson watches those assembled at the compound with a keen eye and with good reason. The two large sacks handed out by the bounty clerk dwarf those received by others. No one makes a move however as the stories are already spreading of the vanquishers of The Undead Pirate King.

Once he has recieved his share of the gold, he heads out in search of drink and merryment.
----
Hert, having angered Brom, stays silent as the bounty is collected and upon receiving his share stows it away.
---
Harvest moon is intrigued by the Captain's words. Clearly there is some turmoil in Rum, and she intends to find it.

The Captain was right however and the protest is uneventful as the residents of the Cesspools take it in turn to express their dissatisfaction with the Fixers and their lack of assistance. It appears as the city approaches completion, construction has slowed leaving some without work, and new boatloads of smiling residents continue to arrive every other day. The more vocal of the speakers talk of the need for change if Rum is to remain the Jewel of the Middle Seas.
----
Gerox retires to his room with dancing thoughts of hot food, cool ale and a feathery bed. His thoughts turn to the people of Rum before too long. What is happening to the city he now calls home?
----
Barratore spends his time building seven identical towers of gold... only to have a lone coin spoil the fun. Feeling the need for a feed he heads out of the compound. In the ever evolving city however... where does one head?
---
Peza too wonders about the state of the city and how her growing affluence may move it towards a prosperous future. Food and rest are also a priority... is she satisfied with the staples of the WLA compound?
---
Brom decides against following the captain and heads out for a drink.

After wandering the streets for a short while he is directed (by a terrified old gnome) to a new establishment The League. The League is a WLA financed business and located close to the docks on the main road that leads from the docks to the city gates. It serves as meeting point and refuge for WLA recruits and contains the bounty board.

Once inside he is easily recognised by the patrons (being WLAers themselves) and is shouted several rounds of ale.

As the sun sets on Rum there are many questions asked and even more drinks consumed. Everyone rests in thier own ways and meet up the following day.

In the end, the cesspools do not turn out to be cesspools in and of themselves. Rather, it is the name of a place where peoples of poor means have made their lives. There is much in The Cesspools to remind Harvest Moon of the life she lead with her mother in the Contested Kingdoms. Here, at least, the peoples would not, or so thinks Harvest Moon, be preyed upon by gangs of bullies and the men of self-declared warlords. She would have to return here upon occasion to ensure that this is so.

But, for now, there are many things to do this day. She must tend to her garden. The weeds there must be many after her long absence. She must seek out a person knowledgeable in the building of libraries. The Catacombs, she had promised herself to go to the shop and discuss with one of the people working there ways in which to use her gold. And it would also be pleasant to visit Eeoh and Sister Sarah. She will bring them apples and carrots, she decides. And a swim in the ocean. She must needs gather more sea grasses to weave more clothing for herself. It is strange how adventures seem to cause more wear on clothes than otherwise would be.

The first stop of Harvest Moon is to the Catacombs shop. Therein, after much talk (and much amazement at the many and varied things that are sold there) she decides on only a few modest things.

Gerox wakes the next morning and squirms in luxury in the comfortable feather bed. "I need to make a spell where I can summon a bed to me while on the road. Now that would be useful!" He lounges for a few minutes unwilling to leave the warm bed but finally his stomach drives him up. He wanders down to the eating area and fills his plate with a large meal. He wolfs it down and heads out to do some exploring.

He will check in with some of the friends he made during the block party and his exploration of the city in earlier times. He will take a good look around (take 10 on perception for 18) to see how the city is progressing and to form his own opinions on if people are getting a fair shake. He will stop in to chat with some neighborhood folks and if he sees any likely conversations he will use his charisma to strike up a conversation. He is just trying to get a feel for the city, its inhabitants and how things are growing.

Harvest Moon vows to monitor the cesspools during her time in RUM, but today will focus on the pleasures of gardening, old friends and a swim. First off however she needs to shop and heads to the Catacombs with Brom
---
Hert discusses human nature with Gerox and the potential causes of troubled folk in a land of opportunities. He settles for investigating if time allows, and plays with a shiny new ring he claimed from the pirate king's booty.
---
Brom enjoys the new morning with brew before heading to the catacombs with Harvest moon
---
Peza remains inside the WLA compound and takes the time to catch her breath. She reflects on the disadvantaged people of Rum and decides to save her money rather than indulge in retail therapy.
---
Gerox spends a restful night in the luxury of a bed and dragging himself out come morning indulges in a large meal before heading out to inspect the town. He sees that almost all buildings in the main, planned areas have been completed, or are in the final stages. The city appears to be growing and evolving before his eyes as new inhabitants flood the streets with each new ship's mooring. Meeting up with old friends he learns of the less fortunate in Rum setting in the cesspool region, and that from this unexpected suburb the seeds to revolution are springing forth. There are also reports of attacks on ships and explorers across the island, getting ever closer to the city itself, however official news is being suppressed by the Fixers, or so the rumours say.
---

About midday the catacombs messenger appears suddenly by each of you, as if walking from the shadows themselves. He reports that all catacombs orders will be delivered to The League at sundown, and that happy hour starts promptly at the same time. With that he disappears into the shadows once again leaving you to your business for the rest of the day.

Dm Note: if you intend to visit catacombs but have not posted as such, please Rp it and sort it out within the next few days.

Plants war with each other just as peoples do. They prey upon one another. They battle for choice lands. And just as a bed of greens is tended, cultivated, and cared for, so too do the laws of a land care for the peoples of that land.

It is an interesting thought from which Harvest Moon rises at the mysterious coming of the Catacombs messenger. She brushes dirt from her hands, from the lap and from the knees of her robe. This evening. They will deliver her goods this evening. That will be fine. Just in time for her to stroll The Cesspools. It will be good to learn this area. Perhaps there will also be time to add to her map of Rum. There have certainly been many changes since last she drew the streets and places of this new city.

But, for now, there is still the weeding to finish. And she will swim. And collect sea grasses to be dried and worked into clothing. Harvest Moon puts hands to hips, facing the prospect of a full afternoon of work with staunch determination. Above, clouds travel the Wold through a clear blue sky. The wheels of life turn and she rides the wheels as they take her through this arc of peace. It is good. It is life.

Barratore gets directions to a place of drink and food and meets up with the others who did likewise at The League. Barratore enjoys the establishment and about everything it has to offer. Stories, toasting mugs of ale, fresh cooked meat and song. At some point, he makes his way home and collapses into bed. the following morning, the minotaur slowly exits and steps into the morning sun. Barratore stretches the sleep from his limbs and glances about for the early birds. He spies Brom with a brew and Harvest in the dirt at her garden. She was certainly a complex one that girl. He turns and goes back inside, to appear moments later strapping bow and blade into place and then making his way to Brom and anyone else with him at the outdoor table, for a morning drink, fruit and salted meat.

"Looks like The League down dockside is going to be a place to stop in on regularly." he says as a general comment to no one particular. "I'm going to the Catacombs as well. Need to get a few more potions and put some magic on my blade."

Gerox decides to save his money for something a bit more expensive than he has right now so puts off going to the catacombs yet. He leaves the bulk of his money in the WLA coffers since it would be to heavy for him to carry but does bring a few gold, silver and copper (8 gps worth) to explore with. He decides to spend the day wandering around the new city trying to get a feel for the neighborhoods and different stores with goods available. Where the nicer taverns are and where the common man seems to be hanging out more. He will try and strike up conversations with folks he finds using his charisma to good use. Short conversations to meet and greet folk with a smile and nod.

He will find try and find the local market to see what kinds of goods are coming in. Is food in short supply?
What kinds of produce are available. He will spend some of his coin on a couple loaves of bread and cheese. He will also buy some hard candy After these purchases, he will head down to the Cesspool area and scout out that area. He carries on with his good humored conversations and will see if folks look hungry. He will be on the lookout for children and if he finds any who look deserving and in need, he will share some of his food with them.

He will then just find a place in the area to sit and relax while keeping a sharp eye on things (especially his purse!) He will stay for about an hour and then wander back to the WLA compound for an evening meal

As the sun sets on another day of shopping and exploration you all make your way to The League.

The impressive stone building towers above its neighbors and looks to be finished to the highest quality. It is clear the Fixers have shown favor to the WLA and assisted with its construction. Through the front doors lives the public bar and common area, which encompasses most of the ground floor. There are many tables at which adventurers of all walks currently sit eating, drinking and enjoying the friendly environment where WLA badges are worn with pride. There are armchairs and a small library surrounding a large open fireplace along the southern wall, and in the corner a group of Elven monks are trying to outdo each other by throwing shurikens at a round wooden board painted in concentric circles. Brom is sitting at a table with several empty mugs as you arrive. He seems strangely content in the rowdy atmosphere.

Sculley's Heroes are the only other faces you recognize and they stand out from the generally happy crowd. They have claimed a table next the Bounty Board and are scowling at anyone who approaches.

As the bartender rings a brass bell seven times there is a rush for the bar and happy hour is announced - two for one drinks for all WLA members and their guests. Through a door behind the bartender enters the catacombs messenger, who proceeds to the far on the long wooden counter and takes a seat, placing an unassuming brown sack beside him. One by one the messenger is approached and numbers are recited, and in return the messenger retrieves the treasures of the catacombs from his sack, all paid for in full.

At a table near the front door a cloaked individual is making a poorly disguised attempt at discretly watching your party over a copy of the Gold Quarter Times ... which happens to be upside down.

He looks at Sculley and his heroes as he gets to the board. "Well if it isn't Scaredy's cowards." He says looking for anything interesting or quick enough to do in a day, by himself or with the others. "Runnin' everyone off the board, hahaha." He laughs.

The smell is very much of yeast, this brew of grains, this ale. It wrinkles the nose on Harvest Moon. It has an odd and not necessarily agreeable taste upon her tongue. The mug has lain between her hands almost completely full the entire evening. She had allowed herself to be persuaded by her fellow League Adventurers to come to this new place, this new place named for the League. She had come, putting off her first night of patrol through The Cesspools. And now, now that she is here, there seems little point. Many peoples. Going about their entertainments.

Except ...

It is difficult not to notice. Such a thing brings much attention to itself. Harvest Moon rises from her largely untouched ale. "Come. Join us," invites Harvest Moon to the cloaked man. "I am Harvest Moon. If you wish to observe us, it will be better accomplished in our midst. If you wish to read, it might be better done with the paper right side up."

Gerox finds his way to the inn having learned nothing new. He notes however that there is common message being fed to those who ask... change is coming -- and it appears to be welcome.

At the Inn he moves to approach the cloaked figure when Harvest Moon invites him for a drink. He inspects the Bounty board along with Brom. Before returning to the table

Can You Trust Their Map? -- DM Zach
Tuesday January 15th, 2013 7:12:12 PM

Fine, you are too scared to fight, and don't want to pay what our information is worth. I figured since we mapped the location that we are fairly certain is the supply depot he resupplies at you would be interested. And before you accuse us of not taking him out then... there was no bounty then. We will leave you be, but how about this. We will give you the info and since I like you... you won't have to pay right then. If you all live and get the Pirate King, ya'll decide if our info was worth it. If it was, then you pay us 1000gp. If it wasn't... well, you'll be lying to yourself." Scully pulls a folded piece of parchment out of his pocket and throws it on the ground. "That's where I would go if I were ya'll. And don't get yourself killed. We want a chance to beat ya'll bloody one of these days... you know, when ya'll aren't to scared." Scully and his Heroes turn to leave but he calls back over his shoulder. "And be careful... they say there is something unnatural about the Pirate King and his crew."

The piece of parchment is folded up on the ground. Examining it will reveal a fairly well drawn map of the southwestern coast of Rum. There are numerous islands on the map, but on is circled and has an X on it. It is a rather small island, inconspicuous and out of the way. The only question is, what is Scully's motive here. Is he trying to send the Heroes on the false path and go after the Pirate King himself, or is he simply letting you all go in the hopes that you are killed? Maybe he was sincere and is just going to wait on another sufficient bounty?

Should the group take a chance on visiting the depot, or would attempting to lure the Pirate King out have a better chance of success?

Edson makes it clear he does not believe Scully capable of collecting a bounty himself. Quite an insult considering the current bounties consist of killing rats and guarding the docks. He adds however that he does not mind paying for the information.
``
Curious about their whiskered friend, Harvest Moon moves to the creature and touches it's hand. Instantly she knows that the watcher is Catfolk

``

Ever the voice of reason he offers his opinion that Scully did actually assist them in locating the pirate king.
``
Barratore starts drinking, determined to catch up with his fellows. He makes an astute assumption the the whiskered watch is one of the people before moving to support Brom, offering his opinion that no deal was agreed upon.
``
Peza is looking forward to a long night of entertainment and does her part to prevent a scuffle and them being ejected from the inn on their first visit.

The Inn erupts in a cheer and clinking of glasses and Peza makes her toasts. Scully's heroes join in and down their free drinks. The buzz is back in the air and the situation appears defused.

Scully slumps in a chair, having downed his drink in one go, oblivious it seems to the fact he was just mincing words with a barbarian.

Three drinks already? Peza -- Fort save vs DC13 (ale) or become inebriated

``
Gerox nurse a mug, one of three before him, and snacks on the cheese and bread , watching the show. Never a dull moment at The League.
``
Never one to back down Brom shoots another insult and berates Scully's heroes. He is all but drowned out however by Peza's toasts and returns to the table.

Three empty mugs and a belch later he regains his place as head drinker of the group.

Brom ... that's at least 4 drinks -- 2x Fort save vs DC13 (ale) please for your 3rd and 4th drinks respectively.

Brom starts to feel his alcohol, but not enough to cloud his judgment, yet. After hearing that 3rd brother and others of his adoptive tribe need help Brom goes a collects the others. If asked, by those who don't know yet, Brom just tells the that the tribe is trouble, and they need to go now.

After delivering the word to any others, Brom goes ant gathers his gear amen meets back at the League when he's ready.

There is no time to admire the magnificent new polearm, the stout white oaken shaft with its inlaid carving of a monkey, inexplicably riding upon a cloud.

"Wait, wait!" cries Harvest Moon, struggling to sling the polearm to her back while rushing out the door of the League tavern.

"BROM! BROM! BROM THE RAGER!" she calls out as she hurries after the retreating back of Teebee of The People. "BROM, WE GO. WE GO NOW!"

Harvest Moon (AC19/Touch18/FF17; CMD 21; HP 34/34) - Al
Sunday June 2nd, 2013 6:28:21 PM

OoC: I compiled a bunch of snippets from an adventure that we had that involved mapping the island.

Within a half-mile of the wall, the last signs of civilization have ended. The terrain is mostly forested and hilly and the going is slow. Small streams and trickles cross between each hill, and nearly every hill has a meadow area where going is easier.

They have seen the area is hilly and forested, with occasional meadows of tall grasses and hidden ponds and swampy ground among the low areas. Insects abound, and the sounds and occasional flushing of animals in hiding indicate a normal level of activity by normal temperate animals. Further away, the occasional fox, deer, or eagle is seen going about their own business. At night, insects take up their calls, and the hero's fire reflects the eyes of curious animals, with the occasional bat or owl sweeping through to grab at the attracted insects.

Two days of tramping later, and the group pretty much determines they are far enough away from Rum to set a permanent camp and start doing their cloverleaf examination of the area. The next week convinces the group of three things. The first is that their plan is producing a good map for the Fixers. Each evening, Harvest is able to draw her own map based on what is drawn on the Fixer Map. The group has carefully identified streams and a couple of deep, cool artesian pools, usually under cut-away sections of deep forested hills. The second is that most of this area of the island is hills and woods and it is taking a good and long time to get that accurate map. The third is that the local fauna seem to be afraid of the group. While there are signs of fauna, the group has seen very few animals or birds of any sort.

At the end of a week, the group has fairly well mapped in all the spaces possible from this location. The terrain within a days walk has remained the same; forested hills with mostly broad leaf trees and stands of pines, streams, occasional meadows, and the few artesian springs. The hills have been getting higher to the west, and the group knows they have yet to get to the spine of the island, a couple of days ahead.

There are definitely animals. The heroes can see thier eyes at night, thier tracks by day, and scat, nests, and other sign to show there is a healthy environment here. Small traps at night net the group rabbit and the occasional fox. Signs for badger, deer, wolf, otter, and beaver are also seen. Occasionally, a flash of an animal is spotted, but the larger ground animals are very, very skittish and run at the first sound of the clanking troop. Birds are seen, even large eagles near the rocky mountaintops, but other than small songbirds, and the nighttime owl and bat, they too stay away from the group.

Another week passes while the group camps, scouts, and then moves on, this time over a saddle in the mountainous spine and to the other side of the mountains before making camp once more. The wilderness saavy heroes scout a good location for a camp that has a very good view of the other side of the island. From here and piecing together her maps from the last camp, Harvest is able to get a good idea of the shape of the island that the group is on. The Island is almost 75 miles long and more than 30 miles wide at the widest part. Since the city is nestled near the southern tip of the Island, the WLAers have been moving steadily north, and now on the other side of the spine, can see the northernmost third of the Island.

The heroes have trudged and scouted in the wilderness for over a month. They have become more hardened to the elements, more used to the flora and fauna of the island, and have slowly made a map of nearly the entire southern portion of the island, moving inexoriably towards the largest hill/mountains that make up the island's spine. It is here, the first day of establishing thier basecamp on the other side of the spine, that Harvest, Peza, and Arno all find something unusual while moving around a rocky outcropping.

Expecting to see a continuation of the talus slope going up, they are surprised to find a gentle slope going down, and the rock quickly replaced by grasses and low bushes. Following this 'trail', the group sees the hills open up into what looks like a pocket valley, full of trees a small waterfall cascading off a cliff to provide a rainbow in the air.

From where they stand, Peza and Arno (who are in the lead) make another discovery. At the side of the trail, the cliffside has been smoothed flat and bits of paint and plaster can still be seen. What the scene was has been worn away, but it is obvious that something intelligent once called this Valley 'home'.

(This Valley, it turns out will be where we discover The People.)

Attackers. But why now? What has happened to the hidden valley that has sheltered The People for so long? What has changed that might have disturbed their peace, their balance? Could it have been ... the passing of the Ericko?

These conjectures, however, Harvest Moon keeps to herself. Instead rather, she asks, "The Green Skins, please speak of them Teebee. Tell us of their appearance. Speak of how they hunt and fight. Talk of their speech. I would know these things so that we might prepare to fight them."

OoC: As to the PC's understanding of Rum, I've never conceived of the city as being on an island. From the maps - which I gather were drawn well before the game itself began - I can see where you get that impresion. However, no DM has ever described crossing over the water to get to the main island. Nor have there ever been any mention of bridges.

As to the places we've been, from the description above, you can see that we've mapped the entirety of the southern half of the island. In and amongs that there have been only two places of note outside of Rum City. First is the Hidden Valley of The People. That's center-ish of the island up on the highest spine of the island. Second are the Experimental Pens of the Beastlords. These are on the coast of the island almost directly east of the Hidden Valley of The People.

We have trracked them which is easy to do... they are not subtle crreatures and have a terrrrrible smell. Harvest looks into the undergrowth... and spots movement in the branches to the southwest... or is that the wind and shadows playing tricks.

Curious. Very curious. This is, perhaps, not a contest for territory. The green-skin orcs and goblins have followed The People to Rum, and they attack them to the exclusion of all else.

"Capture one," says Harvest Moon. The voice with which she speaks these words is not even particularly loud. "We must discover why they attack The People."

And once again she calls upon the plants of the wood and field to frenzy and seize her foes. This time, with canny accuracy, she places the circle of rioting flora such that some of the green-skins might even escape. Some might come, but not all at once. Some, to the north, might even be attacked from outside the circle.

A thought then comes to Harvest Moon.

"Protect The People," she warns. This time her voice carries more urgency. She draws the Polearm from her back and moves a few steps forward. Her eyes search the area for other attackers. She has seen packs of feral dogs draw away mother cows so that they might pull down a calf. "I think that they will not attack us save to get at them."

There are more than ten. The Brothers of The People had said that raiding parties had been of about ten. They also knew nothing of the worgs that these goblins now ride. The foes of the Catfolk, The People, have sent much greater numbers this time.

As Harvest Moon conjures a ball of flame to her palm, she wonders at the question of Why? With a quick toss the ball of flame strikes the foreleg of the wounded worg. It flares, leaving a small charred wound, but little else.

"Go. Go." Harvest Moon shoo's Teebee and his brothers to a place behind the tent. "They arm with throwing spears. Cover," she adds rationale. "They will come like rain." And once again she scans the area for other attackers.

The Green Skin orcs and goblins are held at bay. For the moment. This is good. Harvest Moon seizes the opportunity to rush in the opposite direction, her path describing an arc across their exposed rear. At key points she pauses to spy out the signs of hidden foes - grasses that move against the breeze, subtle miscolorations against the ground or foliage. She then growls a warning to foes present or not in her high pitched girl's voice before moving on.

Swiftly, Harvest Moon completes this circuit and returns to The People. There seems no leader among the attackers. "Have you seen leaders among these Green Skins, Teebee?" she asks. "Ones that are stronger than the others, or who command?"

Edson changes his plan as the orcs are no longer in his path. He turns and moves from the woods and runs up beside his minotaur companion. (is this ok?)
Harvest Moon checks the surrounds, moving behind the battle lines. The path curves away to the northwest. There is grass and shrub similar to what they stand upon lining the road and jungle beyond. Although there could be enemies hiding, The jungle is still and none are seen.
TB responds to the question, his Voice shrill with the excitement. Yes. Norrmally a leader, but I see none herre.
Hert advances, getting ready to fight the orcs
Gerox, still invisible, advances and prepares a spell should the orcs move into range
Peza retains her sniping position and shoot at the heavily wounded Worg 3. The shot is not her best but is enough to put down the beast.
She scans the scene for additional foes, nothing is seen.
Rider 3 is thrown from his mount as Barratore thrusts his blade forward. The Orc is dead before he hits the ground. Barratore tries to catch rider 1 off guard but misses by an inch.
Brom moves forward with his spear extended, and runs straight into and enemy orc, driving his foe to the ground with a gush of blood

~~~~~~<~~~
Worg Rider 1: Screams as his worg brothers are dying before him KILL THEM ALL! KILL THEM ALL! He swings his axe at barratore but the edges barely grazes the Taur's armor. The Word fares better again biting Barratores' leg and yanking hard. it hardly seems possible but the beast catches Barratore off balance and sends him to the floor (6 damage and succussful trip - barratore is prone)
Worg Rider 2: (Rider entangled) The Worg breaks free and rushes forward as the rider, still entangled takes a shot Peza but misses as the vines restrick his aim.
Worg Rider 3: dead
Worg Rider 4: (Worg Entangled) - Rider 4 frees the vines from his body and takes aim, his mount is still impeded however as it tries to charge into battle. The rider fires an arrow at Hert, but misses wide.
Worg Rider 5: dead
Seeing Brom skewer O4 puts fear in the hearts of the Orcs and with W1 screaming at them to kill, they try to do just that. They fill the air with their Javelins in a deadly iron rain.
Orc 1: Entangled - steps forward and throws his javelin at Brom, falling just short. he draws his sword.
Orc 2: Breaks free - steps forward and throws his javelin at Brom, it hits the corpse of O4. He draws his sword.
Orc 3: Entangled - steps forward and throws his javelin at Brom, Hitting him in the shoulder (9 damage to Brom). He draws his sword.
Despite the falling of Barratore Steelwind, the League Adventurers do not appear too troubled by the Green Skins. The unseen leader, however, causes even greater unease in Harvest Moon. But ...
"Come. Follow me. We must protect Peza," she whispers to the Catfolk. Trusting them to follow her around the side of the tent, Harvest Moon rushes to place herself between the advancing worg rider and her friend. She swings the polearm in a menacing arc before readying herself for the coming of orc and worg.
"You will not pass," she calls to the advancing pair. The polearm is set to catch them as they approach, her kick is ready to stun the canine mount when it reaches her, and Harvest Moon prepares herself to cry, Kuuuu! when she strikes. Kuuuu!, in the manner that The People have of celebrating their battles.
Barratore remains on the ground and thrusts his sword upward towards the rider on the work, but comes nowhere close to his target. With a grunt he tries to kick at the worg and get his blade back around to block the incoming rider attack. One of them sprinted by, despite his own precarious position, Barratore glances back towards the camp just in time to see Peza's bolt strike. She was an impressive marksman no debating that. Harvest Moon calls the Brothers to her side to protect Peza calling the People's battlecry "KUUUUUUUU!" Her polearm slices across the W2 Rider before she kicks the mount in the chin. The Worg spits blood but is not stunned.(W2 Rider takes 6 damage,,Worg takes 10 damage but is not stunned). Harvest scans the forest, again she see nothing. Its almost as if the leader has fled.
Brom removes the metal spear and steps towards. He thrusts his spear at the face of enemy, making a clean entry wound. Orc2 drops to the grass, dead.
Hert asks his god to blind an Orc, and moves to block another.
Edson appears, bow in hand, frowning at his poor shot.
[Peza] is surprised that the taur could be toppled but focuses on her own incoming Worg. She lines up a shot and fires it into the heart of the beast. It drops throwing its rider into the air.
Harvest Moon bares her teeth at the Green Skin Worg Rider as it stands over the much blooded body of its mount. She grows as if her fierceness of heart alone will keep the Green Skin at bay. It is not herself of which she has concern. The Rager has once again drawn excessive attention to himself. He bleeds from many wounds. And ... the guide of past experience tells her that he is not likely to withdraw.
And yet, there is still the Green Skin before her. It must be felled or driven off before she can go to the aid of The Rager. She aims a double snap kick at this Green Skin, and then growls again when her distraction foils her aim and both strikes bounce from the Green Skin's armor. She looks about again, still wary of other attackers. Harvest Moon feels the fading of the Prayer Magic from Hert of Gargul. Someone must reach The Rager soon, but it will not likely be her.
Another sword breaches his defensives, but where were the clerics. He thought. Blood flowed but it would take a lot more to take down the barbarian. Brim moves, to L26, to avoid being flanked, even though he can't be. He then attacks O7 trying to reduce the number of orcs facing off against him.
"Where's the healers!" Brim shouts back to the rest. "Do yur job!"
Harvest Moon believes her team is safe as the orcs continue to drop. She rotates and kicks her opponent twice, the first bounces off armour but the second is precise and dogs deep into the arm of the rider. A distinct CRACK is heard a bone shatters. The riders' face is a picture of stunned agony.
Barratore stands up and makes a hurried attack, missing the beast by a whisker.
Gerox shows his concern for Brom by calling him stupid. Maybe the insult will convince the Barbarian to stop fighting? He fires three missiles into the orcs before trying to draw them away.
Peza fires another bolt, this time at Hert's attacker . The bolt pierces the orcs chest and flips it backwards (another kill shot for Peza)
Edson changes his aim as W4 is toppled by Peza. He instead fires at Orc 5, hitting charred leather and making little damage.
Free of immediate attackers, Hert runs to assist Brom. He swings his sword and almost effortlessly removes the top half of Orc 5's head. (yes it was a crit)
Brom, bleeding and battered, retreats a step to avoid being surrounded and calls for healing as he demolishes Orc 7 with a mighty blow of the BAS.
How can he remain? How is it that with such grievous wounds he still stands? That the Rager can fight in this way is a thing of amazement. But nearly all of the Green Skins have fallen.
"Yield," growls Harvest Moon to the Green Skin who faces her. The two swift kicks that she delivers put weight behind her demand.
Once again, Harvest Moon looks about for other attackers. Animals do not often fight unto death amongst themselves. They know when to yield or when to flee. Even bandits know this. What is it then that causes these Green Skins to throw themselves against us like waves that crash upon stone?
She will put this one to question, thinks Harvest Moon, returning her attention to the Green Skin before her. Then she will find out.
"Hert, keep him from dying." he says as he eyes the last standing orc by Brom. There was no need to say anything to the doomed orc, and combat was not the time for discussions. It was one of the things that irritated him so much about Scully. The man was good in a fight, but he went on and on like an old woman in a wool pulling circle.
Harvest Moon repeats her attack. Her first kick bouncing off the Orc's armour, with the second driving deep into the shattered upper arm, making it swing limply. The pain causes the Orc to collapse into unconsciousness.
Barratore to assist the bleeding barbarian. With two quick movements he skewers one then cuts a second clean in half, causing Hert to be sprayed with greenish blood. He Calls for Hert to keep them alive.... if that is possible after such a vicious attack.
Brom has suffered massive blood loss but still wants to fight. Barratore has stolen two kills from him but Orc 6 is still alive, and is rising from the ground. Brom Takes a step forward and puts the beast out of his misery with a single blow to the back of the head
Gerox calls for Hert to heal Brom.
Edson Saves his arrow with no enemies left to target
Peza keeps an eye on the treeline. She sees no one but detects startled birds a way off to the north. Perhaps they were being watched and tested by someone hidden... who has now fled.
The battle appears over with the beasts all dead but the one with the crippled arm, brought down by Harvest. A Cresent moon is rising high as you all begin to relax with the sounds of the night returning to trees.
"They followed us. They wanted to kill us. We must rrreturn to Mother." Fifth brother is terrified by the sight laid before him.
"Yip!" Harvest Moon leaps into the air as the orc falls. Above her head she brandishes the polearm in both hands. Then, with a look back to the Catfolk, she adds, "Kuuuu!"
But, now that the Green Skins have been driven off, it is time to discover why they have come and why they attack The People. Harvest Moon extracts the coil of fine rope from her magic bag and uses it to bind the unconscious orc. After a nod of approval to her binding, the half-elfish girl raises her hands into the air and closes her eyes. Flash Bright holy light bursts from her small, thin form. The light soothes and heals. Not only her friends, but the orc as well. Flash Again. And then once more.
"We will now put you to the question," growls Harvest Moon to the Green Skin. She leaps upon his bound form, grasping the collar of his armor and drawing its face up close to her own. "And do not think that you can die. You will not escape so easily in that way. We can make you live a long time. A long time to dying," she growls and then allows it to fall back to the earth.
She raises her nose to the evening air. To her elf-born eyes, the moons bath the land in silver daylight. "Please ask the Green Skin why they attack the people, Gerox Shale," she says. The gnome speaks the best of all the League Adventurers. He would be the best to draw answers from the orc. "Tell it that we will find the one who did not fight." He will think of the best questions.
They would have stopped upon spying the Catfolk. They would have stopped and gathered around, watching and preparing themselves. Such is what large groups would do. It is at this place that watchers would have separated from the main group.
Harvest Moon pads off in the direction from which the Green Skins had launched their attack. "I go to read the tracks," she tells the others. The tracks would break off from the general trample of the main group. It should not be difficult to spy. This is especially so as the Green Skins came to their attack in one close group.
She follows the trail back, skirting the edges of the Green Skin progress. Perhaps there will be something to be learned from the trail of the Green Skin watchers.
