The consensus of the heroes is to take on the mass of undead at the entrance to the Castle. Jass casts 3 spells and is ready to go. Malgant has healed everyone to full strength, and warns that although the paladin will be able to cure any disease, that any damage done by the disease will still be affecting that hero.

"Lets be off then, shall we?" He rises up into the air on the wings of his Fly spell, then turns south. The castle looms at the edge of the floating island. At the gate, he knows writhes the mass of ... whatever reminiscent of the corpse orgy. But ... what is it really?

"So, what you're saying, Malgant," Jass asks as they make their way above the ground toward the castle, "is that when we get around to digging around for the phylactery of the dracolich, that the more delicate of us should refrain from mucking around in the ... well, the muck. Right?"

"You know, now that I think about it, I'm not entirely certain that this thing we're going after is the same type of creature that we encountered in Scarwall. Best beware of what it might be able to do."

Taking his own advice, the sorcerer keeps a weathered eye and compares what he sees with what he knows.

While Jass replaces some of the missing enchantments on Malgant, the Hand of Imod replaces a few himself. ( I should have 2 rounds while Jass casts right?) He places an extended barkskin on himself and since they will venture close to the castle he also puts up an entropic shield, in case of archers.

The Blackbird Lake Heroes are determined to assault the Castle itself and make their way to the edge of the Garden where they are certain they are momentarily safe (as they have been here before without attack from the Undead Swarm in front of the door to the Castle.

Briarwood and Bramble vines grow up the sides of what was likely a beautiful marble and sandstone building with curving flying buttresses vaulting the ceiling and pulling the viewers eye ever upward. Deep stains of the blood of thousands stain the formerly magnificent outer walls. The pinnacle reaches of the curving spire upon the roof is topped with what appears to be a collection of bodies and parts, sewn into a great grotesque mass as as to resemble a huge human staked over a defiled Ever Watchful Eye. Carrion birds of prey flap about in a black cloud about the vestige leaving no doubt that the bodies are not freshened regularly.

Just outside of the Main Great building a twisted host of zombies, ghouls, wights and animated parts of bodies like heads and arms tear and feed on each other. Death is no release as the torn corpses simply reanimate several rounds after being destroyed, slowly pulling themselves back together again and again.

"Oh, that's not right," Vorelle stares in rapt horror at the sea of undead body parts.

"Could we set 'em on fire?" she adds.

Then Vauhwyt makes her suggestion, and Vorelle agrees that it's worth a try.

Vorelle also uses a move action to give everybody a +3 Favored Enemy bonus on the undead thingy, assuming it's a single thingy, and not a whole bunch of little thingies.

[b]OK, no telling what that thing can do. I'll ward everyone that isn't already death warded. I will cast my own spell on myself. Something is reanimating them, can someone search for a strong magical aura in there, like an object that might keep reanimating them?
Malgant casts Death Ward on himself, then wards everyone else with the wand. Please pipe up if you already have a death ward on.
While he does this he wracks his brain to see if he remembers hearing anything about a creature or situation like this in his training.

Malgant Casts Extended Death Ward on himself and then takes out his wand of Death Ward and successively taps.... Vorelle, Vauhwyt, Mookie, Aztyr, Jass, Brahmah, and William. (ooc: 7 charges, 7 rounds)

Malgant, Jass, and Aztyr all ponder the make-up and apparent powers of this mass of undead in front of the doors. Sometimes spreading out, sometimes contracting, continually fighting among themselves and anything in its path... None of the three have ever heard of something like this before and conclude that it must be a new form of undead that the Lord of Bone Mountain is creating and nurturing before loosing upon the Wold!

As to its powers and weaknesses, observation seems likely to understand more than historical knowledge. Regeneration obviously, and probably the special powers and defenses inherit in individual zombies, ghouls, and wights. After watching for almost a minute, it is pretty evident that the horde is not a group of individuals as melded together into one entity... like a Swarm. As to weaknesses, how do you permanently destroy something that keeps magically regenerating?

Vauhwyt looks at the ground on which the swarm rests. Is it stone? Could walls of stone be made to rise from the ground around it?

Does the swarm seem to have any way to fly? If not, she suggests, why can't we just fly above it and drop acid and holy water and channel energy and so forth at it until it is destroyed?

Assuming we are all flying above the reach of the swarm ... Vauhwyt will read a CL6 scroll of acid arrow to test the undead swarm's ability to regenerate Acid. The range is 600 ft.

" Nope, no fire, no purely attack spells of any kind actually, I could Heal the thing though, from here. I am not inclined to touch that unless it will hurt it, a lot. Something small maybe as a test?"
Malgant flies to within 75 feet of the mass, close enough for a close range spell.He then converts a Wrathful Mantle prayer into a Cure Moderate Wounds cast with a range of close rather than touch (+1 level). He attempts to target a section of the mass to one side, away from Vauhwyt's acid or Aztyr's fire.
Cure moderate wounds for 18 healing on the critter. SP 28 DC24 will save for half damage. ( sorry, realized I need a ranged touch to hit it at the end of the post, hit AC 38)

Vauhwyt looks at the ground on which the swarm rests. The Path seems to be made of loose stone, with the edges hard packed earth until the Garden (which is loose earth). These are not animals, but humans in zombie, ghoul, and wight form, as well as pieces of noble races. If the horde can fly, it would be by magic.

Jass ponders hard, How do you permanently destroy something that keeps magically regenerating? Ideas come, along with the certainty that it should be reasonably safe to test things out.

Vauhwyt will read a scroll of acid arrow to test the undead swarm's ability to regenerate Acid, one of the creatures is struck and begins burning but is quickly lost among the contortion of bodies and the overall effect is unseen.

Malgant says he could Heal the thing, but prefers a smaller test. The minotaur flies to within 75 feet of the mass, and converts a Wrathful Mantle prayer into a Cure Moderate Wounds. Again, it affects a single zombie which collapses, but the single targeted spell seems to have no effect on the Swarm as a whole.

Malgant, having gotten closer to the Undead Swarm sees that the pile of undead does more than stick close to the door. Arms, legs, and a head is thrown at Malgant from the pack, raining down around the Hand of Domi! None get close, and the festering body parts of a liontaur haunch, human hand, and gnome head begin squelching and flopping back towards the Swarm.

While this is going on, Vorelle notices a hummingbird that flies up to her. The miniature bird is dead and diseased, and the spark of half-life in the bird is disconcerting, yet before Vorelle can end its horrid existance, it begins speaking in the same voice as the human companion of the Druid Wolf Lich from the Wood. "What do you want here? I see you have collected phylacteries without destroying them. Sir Joshua's repulsed at the idea of talking with such evil creatures and says, "As my friend said, we've killed all who've opposed us and you'd just be another roadbump if you got in our way." On the other hand, using one creature to kill another evil one can be tricky... He's used to parleying with other honorable knights, not such evil beings... But for now, he's content to let this play out and see where it leads...

Vauhwyt thinks that maybe the druid lich would not be averse to helping us throw over his own master."

Vorelle is a little startled when the bird stops to talk to her. "Audience," she repeats. "Um, yeah. Yeah, I guess you could say that."

Malgant knows this spell, it is a modified messenger, probably the druid lich. The Hand says that "If he can get us to that audience I am game. We can decide if it is lying later."

Jass thinks that this is wrong, but only to the heroes that still have their Telepathic Bond. "But, you catch your breaks where you can find them, eh?" He uses his cadaverous disguise and true decay to convey a different reason to the undead hummingbird, that the group seeks power and seeks to petition the Great Lich for more. He demands submission or death, explaining that a direct approach may work better.

There isn't a hero on the Flying Fortress that doesn't think this 'bargain' with Tendrix the Wolf Lich is a trap, but it is the best break the team has had since killing Bas'Anut, and they decide to try it. Besides, is it a trap if everyone knows it is a trap?

The big question on Vorelle's mind is that Tendrix seems to know they are collecting phylacteries. How does he know?

Still, the group withdraws from the Undead Swarm in front of the castle and travels back to the glade. The Geyser has stopped, but the ground is soaked. Scorch marks and desicated trees are all about the area which is littered with pieces of dead animals of all types. Almost surreal, Vauhwyt's Secure Shelter appears nearly idyllic in quiet repose.

As the Blackbird Lake Heroes gather, an undead Bear walks up the ramp from Bacckis' lair and lays the dragon's Phylactery on the ground before ambling into the forest.

Coming out of the forest is a Shambler which deposits two more Phylacteries on the ground then retreats until hidden by the Wood.

A moment passes, then several more. It appears the next move is on the heroes...

" Here we go. Someone be ready to fix me if these things suck in my soul." With that the Minotaur steps forward towards the phylacteries. Before touching them he creates water above each and asks Joshua to detect evil on all three and Vauhwyt to examine them with her Grim sight to see if they contain souls. While he waits he utters a prayer and gains Spell resistance 32. ( cast spell resistance lvl 20 CL) Once he is satisfied that they do contain the souls they seek he will pick them up.

"I don't know about ... trap." His voice is quiet, pitched low, as though to speak louder would draw unwanted attention. "This whole place is one big trap, after all. What's one more to us? What's one more soul sucking fiend or life threatening peril?"

"I sense ... " Jass scans the skies. Or, where the skies would normally be within the canopied grove. His expression is one that his fellow Blackbird Lakers have never seen before upon his face. The closest description one might have for it would be suspicious dread. "I sense ... something ... larger at work. Something great and impartial. Something with its own unfathomable demands and desires. Something spurring us toward our doom. Or toward greatness."

A shiver goes through the sorcerer's thin frame.

"Fate? Who knows? Grab the phylacteries, Malgant," he says. "I don't think we have much choice in the matter either way. Then lets have a look at them."

Cautiously, carefully, the heroes gather up the Phylacteries. Laying all five of them out together, Vauhwyt can see that three of them hold spirits; both of the ones they wrested from Charzzak and Bas'Anut, and one of the new ones that still smells like it had been hidden underneath a colossal mound of corpses and rotting flesh. The two without spirits must presumeably be from Tendrix and Dezmonias who have given them to the heroes for reasons of their own.

All other animals and animated plants and stuff are keeping a great distance from the heroes. Whether waiting for something to happen or they have learned to stay away.... the heroes can only speculate.

Anyone, even Aztyr's garbled engineering knowledge, can see that each phylactery is part of a ball, and that it only takes 5 Phylacteries to create an entire ball.

From the information the BBL Heroes have from talking with Priscilla (was it only this morning?) that the puzzle will create a Gate where the heroes will be able to find the Great Lich who has claimed lordship of Mount Bone (and has instigated tremendous evil in the Wold). If they are able to slay IT, it may not destroy every undead in the area, but should certainly scatter them leaderless and make the Elennian Peninnsula that much safer.

The liontaur looks around at the ground. Is it stony? Is the Gazebo nearby made of stone? She will cast a Stone Shape spell to gather as huge a piece of stone as she can carry.

"Can we ruin this Gazebo for use by demons and such?" she asks. "Maybe consecrate it or something?"

Since we have some crafting time, I'd like to make a statue of all of us. I've got 20 hours and four or five Fabricate spells. And my Crafter's Blessing spell."

Malgant motions everyone into Vauhwyt's magnificent mansion ( was it here or by the Gazebo?) andd then begins to lay out his plans. " Vauhwyt, just dismiss your spell( says it is like Greater Polymorh, which is like Polymorh which is dismissible). Can anyone replace the Greater Dispel Magic's in my rings of counterspells before we rest. Aztyr, give me your staff of healing, I believe I can restore some of the charges before we rest with my remaining prayers. Any LONG term spells like contingencies and the like you all want to renew should be done now. We should determine if we are on the same plane of existence when we arrive in the Great Lich's realm. I say even if we aren't we should destroy these phylacteries immediately, so they don't reconstitute while we fight. We should buff to the nines before we do this. Every element we can prepare for, as good of a Spell resistance as we can all get all of that should be tip top. Brahmah and Joshua, and myself and Vorelle should all use versatile weapon spells in case we need to overcome a type of damage resistance our weapons cannot match ( slashing, piercing or blunt, iron and silver are all covered I think). I don't know about the rest of you, but top of mind needs to be that this Great Lich is ended. If he lives and we fail, he will do unspeakable things to the Wold in retaliation. We need to all remain close so that I am able to heal you if we get in trouble, remember I cannot hear you thinking anymore. If you need help say so. Anchoring the Great lich should be our first order of business, if he escapes we lose. Beyond that lets just kill him fast before he can kill us."

Is the time capsule meant to overcome the mechanic of 'recent casting limit' which stops us from using up all of our spells just before resting say with long term buffs and then relearning them to use offensively? It sounds like that is the main boon of the spell but I want to be sure I will be able to pray for spells when we use it.

OOC: just a heads up. On the 24th and 25th I am likely going to be afk/incognito. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and will be having surgery. She is mostly fine, its a low end cancer. She described it as "the best possible cancer she could have, given the circumstances". She's an upbeat sort, so things are likely worse than she is letting on. But I'm not worried. It was diagnosed last month and the surgery is incredibly soon. Its a fast turn around. Things look good. I figured I'd mention it ahead of time, a bit early.

Brahmah hopes to remember everything that was said by Malgant, but his old mind is addled by the odd spells and artifacts which are about to be used. He doesn't really want to understand any of it.

"I'll remember all of that.... versatile weapons, lead blades, energy resistance, freedom of movement... Is there any reason to believe items will recharge... like my hand of glory or rods?"

Just to clarify because of some confusion. The BBLers have been to a lot of locations on the Flying Fortress, and I have inadvertently called some locations multiple names which have only confused things further.

CURRENTLY
- The BBLers are in the Glade, the open spot north of the Wood and south of the Mountain. This is where they fought the animal undead swarms on the edge of the cliff just after they left the dracolich's lair. Map at the end of that fight is again below for reference only.

Not to be confused with:

The Grove, which was where the heroes fought the druid lich inside the Wood.

The Gazebo, which was where the heroes fought the demons.

- The BBLers have 5 Phylacteries and they know this is enough to open a Gate to the Great Lich
- There is a Secure Shelter in the Glade, not a Magnificent Mansion.
- Priscilla's Time Capsule is a one use artifact that will enable the team to rest with full recovery of spells. Currently, it is held by Jass and has not yet been used.

His gaze is directed off the edge of the Glade and into the empty sky at the edge of this Floating Island of the Dread. "As long ... If you have spells that are in the hour/level or 10 minute/ level range you may as well buff with them now. It isn't clear if the capsule actually makes the longer time goby or not. A 19 hour buff spell will likely still have run time on it once we rest and relearn spells. So what I am saying basically is smoke em if you got em, especially the resist energy ones.
Stephen, can you relist the treasure we have found thus far? I may want to use alot of it as a material component if the rest of our folks are willing to let me.

Malgant still prepares all the spells he did last post, and as long as we have the unscryable secure shelter we can all talk in private. Brahmah, you and I can both prepare freedom of movement prayers, if we can prepare a few extra we can ward at least the melee people in our group. The best advice I can offer is that we should concentrate on making ourselves tougher because we don't know what kind of spell resistances the Great Lich will have. Concentrate on preparation and supporting each other. We should anticipate a Mage's disjunction almost right out of the gate, Imod knows that's what I would do if I were a centuries old spellcaster faced with a magiced up band of heroes. We will need to counter that, possible twice in the first round. We have already seen very high level magics quickened through the use of metamagic rods. Once that danger has passed we should swarm him with melee while our adept casters and ranged attackers pepper him with more offense. I will prepare some greater dispels to help with counterspells, Jass, I don't think Aztyr can do that unless she uses a limited wish to emulate it. I will ask Imod to prepare us before we assemble the amulets and hopefully he will bless our preparedness with his assistance. I can think of nothing else we can do in advance but rest and regain our powers. Any other ideas?"
Malgant stops talking and massages his temples. Clearly he has been trying to out think this centuries old evil and is still not sure he has covered all of the bases.

I would go more resist energy fewer lead blades. Remember we did all this damage up here in less than an hour. Unless you get dispelled, many times you probably won't need to recast it. Yopu might want a blessing of the salamander too, that is one nice spell. Fast healing can save your butt, especially with your viscous weapons.
Otherwise ... YES, that is exactly what I am talking about for spells. Awesome.

Spells are cast and tactics reviewed, but no decision is made whether to put the phylacteries together first or to activate the Time Capsule and rest.

STATUS
- The BBLers have 5 Phylacteries and they know this is enough to open a Gate to the Great Lich
- There is a Secure Shelter in the Glade, not a Magnificent Mansion. It is Scryable.
- Priscilla's Time Capsule is a one use artifact that will enable the team to rest with full recovery of spells. Currently, it is held by Jass and has not yet been used.

OOC
I don't want to metagame the Time Capsule, so here's the deal. Any spells the PCs have active the moment they leave the Time Capsule will be against daily use of spells that the PCs can use that day. No chance to 'double down' on spells!

Only exceptions are on spells with durations longer than one day. These spells can be cast now, recover, and come out of the Time Capsule still intact. (example: Contingency, Sequester)

ACTION

The heroes debate what to do first; buff and heal, activate the Time Capsule, or put the Phylacteries together.

Oh, Vauhwyt will cancel her non-days-long spells to the extent possible. However, some are not (D) spells and she cannot dispel her own magic. Maybe their relatively low duration will compensate if they expire soonish.

Note that V's Extended GMW spells have a duration of 40+ hours, and she casts half of them each day. So she will not cancel those. I think they fall under the DM's kindly "long-duration spell" exception.

More spells are cast, filling up staffs, wands, rings, and vials of Woldsblood.

And Jass activates the Time Capsule...

Unlike a Magnificent Mansion where the group has to enter a magical doorway, the Time Capsule is immediate and instantaneously transports the group to an idyllic pocket dimension of white marble and vibrant greenery. White columns draped with fresh greenery, smooth sparkling floors with steps up and down, and the bluest sky overhead. There are curtained alcoves for resting and other private activities, a huge freshwater swimming pool, a smaller salt water, and tubs of hot mineral waters for relaxing. There are no doors, walls, or ceiling, but the purest marble construction blends naturally into the gardens and orchards nearby, heavy with fruits and flowers.

In the center area, a table laden with every healthy delicacy only waits for the hero to relax. Jass recognizes Stingroot and Glassgrass Wine; Malgant, Brahmah, and Aztyr the best vintages of the Tauric Isles; Vauwyt and Vorelle see foods that the ladies haven't seen since the banquet with the Prince of Dirt City many years ago; Sir Joshua is certain there is a pie on the table that was baked by his mother!

Chirps, Tweets, and Chitters play a harmony among the trees and columns, and... yes, actual soothing music as well. As the Heroes wander, they hear that the music changes from soothing, to jovial, to welcoming and comforting. A short walk around, and even the sounds conform to the ideal of each individual hero!

In short, the pocket dimension that the heroes find themselves in is a paradise for the adventurer, the calm before the storm...

And as a reminder that the storm isn't too far away, hanging in the air above the Table is an hourglass, the sands slowly falling down to mark the end of this rest. In 24 hours...

Aaaaahhhhhh. It's a very palpable feeling that comes with its own sound that describes itself. Jass closes his eyes and breaths back in the sound that his own body has exhaled, feeling the Aaaaahhhhhh circulate, relieving all tension as it flows through him.

"That's just marvelous. Almost makes the march through that purgatory of undeath worth the effort."

"Almost."

That thought brings the sorcerer's eyes open and his mind back to the conflict still pending. With hands tucked behind him and head tipped to one side, he examines the flow of the sand through the glass. "If I recall correctly only one hour will pass outside while we're in here. But that's plenty of time for all manner of mischief to happen."

"Still. I doubt that the Big Lich will be coming out of his cave while we hold five of the phylacteries. So, I won't be casting any more spells until we're out of this wonderland and back on Danger Island. Alright?" he asks. Jass raises an eyebrow, opening the question to response.

What he might have said in reply should any of his fellows voiced complaints will never be known as Jass turns away then. With a shrug of his shoulders his robes drop away revealing his thin, pallorous body beneath. Then he slips into one of the mineral baths. Aaaaahhhhhh.

"Ohhh..." Vorelle can't quite believe her eyes when she steps into the beautiful realm. It is by far the fanciest place she's ever seen, and it takes a few moments for the girl from Dirt City to fully appreciate what she is seeing.

It takes her only a few minutes to get acclimated, however, and then she is off--strolling among the greenery, visiting the orchard, sampling the delicious food. Her sense of modesty doesn't quite allow her to try the swimming pool, but she does slip into a secluded mineral tub for a blissful soak.

Finally he would like to use the heavy pick of evil as payment for his Greater Planar Ally prayer. My thinking is that any guy I summon with it would be happy to take it as payment to remove it from the Wold.

The heroes all seem to wander off to enjoy their own pursuits, using much of the time here in this paradise to rest, enjoy the pleasures and scenery which is twice as nice when juxtaposed from the diseased and wasting Wood from the Flying Fortress. Water, orchards, and foods are enjoyed to the utmost, even a hammock strong enough for a snoozing minotaur!

After nearly 18 hours of blissful living, Malgant and Jass reluctantly prod the others to the reason for the team being here in the first place. There are tactics to consider, magical equipment to distribute, and returning thought and determination to focus for the final mission...

And the Hourglass is 3/4 spent...

Malgant knows that the ultimate Miracle must be powered by 25,000 gp in powdered diamond and the magical equivalent will not be enough.

He also discovers that while all of the HEROES' magical equipment resets, the Karma Bead from the lich does not. (Any hero magic that has a #/day is reset. Charges from wands, staffs, etc are still used.)

How many Charges can Aztyr recharge in a day? For which items?

His hand breaks the surface of the steaming water as he reaches for a fluted goblet of Glass Grass wine. Paradise is well and good for the body. But what can bring peace to the mind? Jass' mind wanders to plans and preparations, heedless of his conscious attempts to push them away.

He sighs inwardly. I suppose that's what makes us the heroes. Heroes can never relax. The sorcerer tosses off the last of the wine before rising from the pool. A quick Prestidigitation cantrip cleans his clothing before he dons them again.

"Well ... " That single word seems to say it all for the moment. After the moment passes, more seem required, though. "I don't anticipate an attack upon leaving this ... Time Capsule. So I shan't be casting any spells until after we leave. But, rest assured that I will be doing so before we construct the key."

"Be assured of Life Bubble and Fly. It would also be nice to have Death Ward from that wand, don't you think?"

"But that can wait." He seats himself next to the hour glass. "Till we've been spilled from Paradise."

Sir Joshua grudgingly accepts the fact that even paradise must end...

Even though he can cast death ward, it seems to make better sense to use up his 4th level slot on something besides that since they have a wand for that exact spell... Instead, Holy Sword would be good on his lance, doing an extra 2d6 vs. evil creatures and negating the need for someone to cast GMW upon it since HS makes it a +5...?

Charges.... 1 drop per spell level, or 10 drops for a staff/rod charge.
No concentration check if drawing 4 drops, 4 drops = DC30, +5 DC per drop more, but Aztyr can hold the Wolds Blood without harm in her hand so can draw extras to get 10 for a staff charge. Also she has 1 in her holy symbol and 9 in her personal vessel. She normally draws 5, needing a die roll of 5, because 50/50/90 is too much of a risk. (unless greater heroism is up giving her a bonus.)

so, 45 levels of spells w/o a skill roll for recharging.

Brahmah taps Vorelle on the shoulder. "So, are you in the market for a Freedom of Movement spell? I can make it last awhile." He thinks a moment, his sailor mind going somewhere it shouldn't. "Anyway, if you decide you need it, let me know.
And if you want those arrows to do special material damage too, I can do that. I saw you have a couple silver... I make them do bludgeoning or something else. Or even your axes."

He looks a Joshua and remembers Malgant's tactics. "Aw." He looks at Vorelle again. "I might need one of those spells for Josh too.... I might be out of spells pretty quick! That's a first!"
He smirks. "ACK! WHO GIVES A CENTAUR'S ROAD APPLE!! Spells all around."

He assures the others of Life Bubble and Fly spells as soon as they are out of the Time Capsule, but figures other spells would be premature, though a Death Ward from the wand would be nice...

Aztyr looks to draw Wold's Blood and recharge equipment. The liontaur considers what she needs, but hasn't yet gone and done it yet. (ooc: DM isn't going to do the math for the Player on how many the PC will actually do. Player has to state how many the PC will do and the DM will adjudicate. This is partly because DMs aren't allowed to make PCs do actions, and partly because with so high a level, I'm trusting that everyone is tracking thier own stuff better than I possibly can. :-)
(NOTE: Wands and Rods can be fully recharged. Under Pathfinder, you can only recharge 1 charge in a staff per day. The user can also recharge 1 charge in a staff, effectively doubling recharge of the staff.)

Aztyr will have done the 9 draws for 5 blood each, needing to roll a straight up 5.(after figuring in her skill levels of +30) With 3 failures, she gathered up 30 drops, and used 20 on the staff, the other 10 to recharge 10 spell levels of wand charges, and left over get squeezed back into the ether of the Wold and get returned from whence it came.

That refills the staff, and the wand of stone skin, the hide from undead still is not topped off.
As soon as the time is up, Aztyr will tap everyone, including Mookie and the horse with the wand of stone skin. Then other buffing will happen....

The Time Capsule runs its course, and in the space of a moment, the heroes once again stand on the withered grasses of the Glade, bits and pieces of bone and mangy fur covering the soaked ground. They are separated from the rest of the Flying Fortress by the Mountain of rocky outcroppings and stunted trees to the north, the sheer precipice of the whistling and moaning Cliff to the West, and the diseased Woods with areas of blackened stumps and desiccated bushes to the south and east.

Spells are cast quickly, and the heroes are able to complete all of their supportive spells. An urgency is here, for Malgant correctly deduces the drawback of the Time Capsule... every Phylactery with them has enabled liches to regenerate! Whether they are completely healed or only partially is not known, but there is a feeling in the Glade that the heroes are just about out of time!

Oy, I have to get a big spell casting post in. I'm really sorry to be behind, Steve.

But one thing first ...

Vauhwyt wakes and feels unhappy. Where is her tail? Where are her rear paws? She decides she wants her last day of her last battle to be in her native form.

Per the rules for Polymorphing, "You can only be affected by one polymorph spell at a time. If a new polymorph spell is cast on you (or you activate a polymorph effect, such as wild shape), you can decide whether or not to allow it to affect you, taking the place of the old spell." So in the morning, Vauhwyt casts Alter Self on herself. She allows that spell to take effect, becoming an elf. Then she dismisses the Alter Self. That restores her to her usual form, ending the Poly Any Object, at a cost of only a single second level spell.

Then it is time to activate her Karma Bead, cast the day's daily spells, and face the master lich!

She uses her Detect Spirit ability to see if any of the phylacteries are still occupied.

DM Steve, I just looked at the casting time for Greater Planar Ally. Would I be able to cast that back in the Time Capsule or before casting all those buffs that will burn off while I cast it? I am hoping for a Planetar but I can't wait to see what shows up. If none of that is possible can I swap the spell out for another 8th level prayer?

Aztyr, before the time runs out, casts a few prep spells....
First is a series of limited wishes. Each one is cast as a Mass Resist Energy, one of each element, Fire, Cold, Lightning and Acid. She then casts a Shield with the Rod of Lesser Extend.
Her final spell, goes off just as the sands run out... a Haste spell, extended with a rod as well.

Malgant casts a special spell, beseeching his diety to send an ally in support of the upcoming battle. And rising from the waters, his prayer is answered. A golden-skinned, bald, muscular, and tall being stands before Malgant, two wings of purest white framing him and his large two-handed sword. "We have work to do, fellow spirit of justice", it intones.

Odd, the sorcerer reflects. He used to be so much more easy going. Is this the price of heroism? Another of the many prices to be paid? Does the progression from crisis to crisis, from danger to danger wear so much upon the mind that one can become ... grumpy?

" Jass, peace brother. We have enough time to do this right. Do not rush on account of this lich that needs destroying. He has waited centuries for us to come and destroy him, what is another moment. Vauhwyt, please keep an eye on those occupied stones. I don't want an angry Dracolich that never got to attack popping out of one of them all angry like. And Bas' Anut was enough of a handful the first time, I don't fancy a second meeting."
Turning to the Angel beside him Malgant introduces himself and his friends and then recounts what they have done, and what they plan to do and how. He explains that Jass is assembling a gate that will allow them access to the lair of the Great Undead master of Bone Mountain. " Angel, how are you called so that I can speak to you more familiarly? I plan to take an unfamiliar role in this battle making sure my friends remain healed. If you would please help them in combat and if I should fail to heal or aid one of them please keep them alive. When we first encounter the beast I will try to deny it escape with a dimensional anchor and then prepare to counter what I expect to be either a massive death spell or a spell to strip us of all enchantments and possibly magic items. I believe that Jass will be prepared to counter it as well but a third counter or dimensional anchor would be welcome from you. Malgant speaks with the Planetar who leans on his greatsword and talks with the minotaur. "You ask in Gargul's name to fight a great abomination against the natural order of life and death, and I come. I am Thyragul, the Swift Wind of Gargul. It shall be as you say. For as long as I am with you, your back is guarded and your companions healed."

Jass looks about the five Phylacteries and tries to put them together before he discovers a problem; the two pieces he tries to put together pull apart like gnomish magnets that are the same pole. It takes him a minute to figure it out, but then understands that it is another safeguard of the Great Lich. One person can't put it together; there have to be five beings each holding one Phylactery! Thinking back on the internal bickering and glee of the lich lieutenants when some of their number were killed, it would have to be a great reason for five of them to get together. On the other hand, if five were managed to be collected by an outside power, it would be likely that the heroes would have less than five left by the time they collected enough Phylacteries!

(Thinking back on the other heroic group, there were only four of them in the first place. Even if they had collected five Phylacteries, the Great Lich was safe.)

This moment truly is a once-in-a-millennium chance for the Blackbird Lake Heroes. Everything has fit into place for a single chance to destroy an ancient evil!

OOC: Real life stuff. I mentioned a week or so back that my mom is going to have surgery. It was rescheduled from today to Thursday. I'm heading out of town tomorrow (Wednesday) and I will likely be gone for the first round or two of combat. Sorry. I will try to check in.

OOC: Since Resist Energy was cast by a higher caster, and I didn't realize that when Brahmah cast his, I'm taking back the used slots.

As tempted as being larger might be, he has to decline the Enlarge. It's as easy to hit a huge minotaur as it is to hit a barn.

Guiding Star-
You form a bond with your surroundings when you cast this spell.
