Co-DM Rob - Sighting!
Monday June 10th, 2013 11:58:09 AM

Claudien responds to Yel'knos question about the rings by telling him Adela had a talent for magic. She would cast a magic-mouth spell on each ring. The rewards from the sunken ships paid for themselves!

The group discuss what to do with their prisoners. Act as judge, jury and executioner? Implement a catch & release policy and throw them back in the sea? Wait until the next port and hand them over to the authorities?

It is a long day, and as the sun sets the answer is none the clearer. Perhaps on a full stomach? Joansie cooks what seems to be her only recipe - stew. Still, she is improving. It now stays down.

"Sighting west!" comes the call from Pinny in the crows nest. The sun is setting behind a ship, but you'd guess it to be around 500ft away and closing.

Keiki shrugs, if the Captain doesn't want to kill the prisoners, then that is the Captain's decision. Strange, none of the other captain's that Keiki has known ever gave NOT killing someone a moment's thought. There is still much on this ship that is strange to the bronze-skinned half-elf.

At the call from the nest, Keiki looks up, adrenaline working. Anytime 2 ships approach at sea is a chancy time. He calls up 2 potions from his magical knapsack; a Shield and a Hypnotism just in case as he gazes across the waters.

Spire opens his mouth to say something again, but closes it quickly. He finally blurts out, "Are... are we in the right to kill them... captain? I mean..." His voice wavers but he continues on. "They are our prisoners. We are by no means any form of law enforcement."

Fully healed, Coer goes for a run around deck. He climbs the mast and swings down to the deck. He is keeping busy while his mind races. He believes in the extremes of the Law, and that breaches MUST be punished. However, he also believes he must defend the helpless - does that extend to prisoners?

Finally he approaches Yel'kno.

Captain, if we kill the prisoners... we are no better then the blue blooded beasts that they are. We must release them.... either to the sea or to Trial on land."

When the alarm of a nearby ship is sounded Coer returns to his room and gathers his gear. With his Weapons secured he heads to the deck and prepare for the oncoming ship. Perhaps it is another, friendly ship drawn by the magic rings...

... "we're not that lucky" Coer mutters to himself.

Yel'kno (Jon) AC 19/14/15 CMD 17 HP 31/31
Tuesday June 11th, 2013 9:55:45 AM

"Spire, Coer.. At sea a ships officers and its Captain are the law. Is it our duty to see that laws are enforced and if need be punishment applied. If we took them to port, no city or town can claim jurisdiction over their crimes. They'd be killed for being monsters alone. At least we have a reason."

Co-DM Rob - Sighting!
Tuesday June 11th, 2013 10:20:22 AM

Yel'kno declares that for their crimes, the prisoners will be hung at dawn. Spire and Coer disapprove of this course of action and voice as much to the captain.

Keiki stays silent on the matter, as does Jozhur.

Everyone takes notice of the ship on the horizon now. It is most certainly headed this way - or at least towards the waters known to be inhabited by kelpies. Jozhur is practically blinded by the sun, but from this distance Yel'kno notes no visible flags of colour flying from the vessel though its sails are full.

Jozhur finds a nice shadowy place to hide whilst the others keep a watch on the approaching ship.

Yel'kno gives the order to steer a bit to port. The approaching vessel look to compensate by veering slightly starboard. They are certainly giving the appearance of wanting to get close & personal.

Coer laments not having a ballista. One day perhaps. One day.

The approaching vessel looks to have two masts and square sails. Most likely a sailing ship. As the vessel comes closer it becomes clearer it is a sailing ship - no siege engines can be seen on deck fortunately.

Keiki is the first to notice something familiar about the ship. He spent quite some time inside it, not often getting a look at it from a distance, but there is no mistake. The ship belongs (or belonged) to the Elf Bloods.

From this distance you can make out at least a dozen people on the deck of the vessel.

The opposing ship is 150ft away, but as the two ships are both moving towards each other you will have one more round to act before they get "very close"

=======

Two arrows fly from the crows nest of the approaching ship - both catch Spire in the chest (Hit AC27 for 9. Hit AC15 for 12. This includes range penalties & partial cover. Spire takes 21pts damage!). This elf just does not have a good run of luck when it comes to being at sea!

"ducking below railing (possibly getting partial or total Cover?)..."

DM Ruling....
- Standing next to a railing gets you Partial Cover (+2 AC)
- "ducking" next to a railing gets you Cover (+4 AC) - EXCEPT for Large size creatures who instead get Partial Cover
- Prone next to a railing gets you Total Cover (Can't be targeted) - EXCEPT for Large size creatures who instead get Cover

This works for both the party and NPCs. Note that attacks can be readied/held to target someone when they "pop up" from ducking/prone

Yel'kno cringes as Spire is struck, but stands his ground and waits. he calls to the helmsman. "Steer us port again on my signal, we'll try to slip by her before they can close or ram us. Ill take out their man at the helm so they can't adjust"

And then casts a spells to cause that pretty explosion of glittery dust to burst into existence at the wheel of the other ship. "now!" He calls to the sailor at the helm. With luck, the sailor steering the other ship will be blinded and allow them to steer away from the other ship and shoot past. If they don't avoid the fight, at least they'll have a moment to bring Spire back and prepare.

------

Ready action to cast Glitter Dust on the wheel of the other ship when it comes in range. Glitterdist range is 140' so if the ship is 150' it won't be long to wait. Will DC 15 or be blinded for anyone with 10' of the wheel of the other ship. Also all sparkly.

The words are barely out of his mouth when the arrows catch Spire in the chest. The elf has no time to look down at the missiles before he collapses on the deck, coughing up a bit of blood. The two arrows from the crows-nest lodge deeply in Spire's chest. He feels the sharp pain and slumps to the deck.

Keiki goes to the wizard's aid and does his best to ebb the flow of blood. Alarmingly, the blood is now longer flowing - more just pooling. The heartbeat of Spire the Wizard, the intellectual of the Lionfish has stopped beating.

Yel'kno gives the order to try and avoid this battle - or at the very least, avoid being rammed. On his command the ship turns as he casts Glitterdust at the helmsmen of the other ship. The person clutches their eyes, as does one next to them. (Will Saves: 14, 5, 20, 14)

Jozhur follows up with an arrow at the distant target. His shot strikes true, hitting the blind figure in the shoulder.

The person next to the blinded helmsmen takes control of the ship and does his best to maintain its crash course. He perhaps doesn't have the same skill as instead of colliding the two vessels pass perilously close.

A hail of arrows and bolts fly from the deck of the other ship, yet only does any damage to the party (Miss AC14, 12, 13, 3. Hit AC22 (Nat20). Failed to confirm. Coer takes 3pts damage!)

There are a lot of screams and calls as the pirates from the other ship try to board the Lionfish. Swinging from ropes tied to their own masts, seven pirates manage to board. And there, standing at the stern of the Lionfish is Kito...

The othe ship continues past the Lionfish. They are now 45ft apart are getting further away from each other.

Spire gasps as if trying to cough up some blood, yet nothing comes out. His chest feels fine. There is no pain, no blood. He feels ... nothing.

As he regains his footing Spire notices a number of things seem - "out of place". For one, he is standing at the rails of a completely different ship. No crew at all. He is all alone. Not too far away he can see the Lionfish and its crew in a battle with some pirates - ElfBloods most likely.

"Arrows in the chest, huh? I hear those are the worst" comes a male voice from behind him. A short, ugly little man, complete with a long hooked nose and warts covering his face comes to stand next to Spire. He props his elbow on the railing and his chin on his hand as he watches the ensuing battle.

Jozhur feints to his left, but then swipes at the right - catching his target off guard.

Coer easily deflects the flimsy arrow that dared target him. Though his sword misses its intended target, his fist makes quite a dent in the pirate's face. Blood pours from the pirates nose - Elf Blood blood?

Yel'kno taunts the enemy whilst inspiring his allies towards victory. The captain draws his rapier and thrusts it into the nearest pirate, making a small puncture in the man's arm.

The enemy respond...

The archer (E7) at the bow of the boat moves closer to the edge of the forecastle and lines Jozhur up. With a deft shot he fires an arrow downwards that knocks the sword clean out of Jozhur's hand (Ranged Disarm attempt vs CMD16: 30 = Pass. Jozhur is disarmed!)

Kito (E1) jumps down onto the deck of the Lionfish and faces Keiki "You gutless, traitorous, no good, son of an elf!" he screams as he brings his scimitar down upon Kieki - only to hit the stairway! (Move action to jump down on to the deck. <10ft so no damage. Attack vs AC14: 12 - Nat 1! = Miss. Keiki is cornered under the stairs!)

Ivary (E2) takes a step back up the stairs. She points a finger at Yel'kno as she casts a spell (Cast Hold Person on Yel'kno. Yel'kno must make a Will save vs DC16 or be paralyzed!)

The sparkly Ganef (E3) swings his longsword at Yel'kno, but misses the Captain (Attack vs AC19: 11 = Miss)

Alfgeir (E4) calls upon the powers of unlife and targets Coer with a spell (Cast Blindness/Deafness. Coer must make a Fort save vs DC16 or be blinded!)

The severely wounded Eini (E5) steps closer to Coer and swings his scimitar weakly. He fails to make any dent in Coer's tough skin (Attack vs AC17: 12 = Miss)

Thorgunna (E6) takes something out of her pocket and lets it slip from her fingers to the deck of the ship. The Lionfish comes to a surprising halt (Move action to draw Feather Token(Anchor). Standard action to use it).

Spire sees that the Wold around him is oddly washed out. The blue of water and sky, the red of blood, all look more like grey, really. The sounds of the battle seem distant, more distant and tinny than they should be.

Spire sighs heavily and asks if he is dead.

"Don't make it sound like a BAD thing," the short squat ugly fellow says. "There's dead, and there's dead. It's not like you're destroyed or unmade. Actually, you're only very freshly dead. Practically half alive. Only one foot through the final curtain. One of them witches could grab you and drag you back into the land of the living, that's how close you are. Not that I'd advise it -- the Big Guy Upstairs frowns on those kinds of shenanigans. You can practically reach through the Veil and give your old pals a poke, if you tried hard."

"But soon enough, in a few minutes, maybe a little longer, then you'll likely be ready to go on. So take a good look at your buddies here -- likely your last chance to fix 'em in your memory, like. Take your time, make your peace."

"Heh!" the little fellow snerks, and then stands on his head.

Creatures that fail this check fall prone. Characters who remain blinded for a long time grow accustomed to these drawbacks and can overcome some of them.

Spire opens his mouth and closes it again, unsure of what to say. "There..." WIth another deep sigh, the elf looks down at the strange, ugly man next to him. "I know it sounds cliche, but there is so much I have not done yet. My allies... they still need me. And..." He trailed off, thinking about his past. But he knew that Gargul's was a strict God. "We have already visited Gargul once. I doubt they shall do it again. Perhaps... it is time to go."

The Short Ugly Man and Spire
Monday June 17th, 2013 9:57:11 AM

The short ugly fellow walks on his hands over to Spire. He hops up on the rail of the ship -- still upside down, so that his hands are on the rail and his feat are in the air.

Now more or less facing Spire, he says, "What, you've been dead for less than a minute, and you're ready to shuffle off the mortal coil? It is a coil, you know, and what goes around comes on back. Sure, you can leave now, and maybe you'll do better in your next life."

The little squat guy shrugs, which is pretty impressive when you are balancing on your hands on a railing on a moving ship.

"You think your pals will wimp out? They are afraid of the Master? What, did he scare them last time? Lop off an arm or a tongue? Take one or two lads to the lands of rest for being insolent? Sorry, I don't remember you. We see so many adventurers coming through. They blend in, you know."

Shemeska finally sees his chance. After being treated as a slave by the Elfbloods for so long he can finally see an avenue of escape - and it lies with the adventurers before him. If they are to survive however they will need his help. The drow draws his bow and takes careful aim at the Elfblood on deck, plugging Eini in the back. He slumps dying to the deck.

The cowering Keiki tries to make Kito feel the same sense of fear that he himself is currently experiencing. Unfortunately the large human shows no signs of the affect (Will Save vs DC11: 13 = Pass)

Yel'kno taunts Ganuf before poking the man with his rapier once more. This time the rapier goes straight through the man's thigh, severing an artery. Ganuf drops to the deck as his blood begins to pool.

Jozhur goes into a frenzy. Though he may not have his trusty sword in hand, his dagger works just as well. He plunges it into the stomach of the female caster in front of him, and with a sharp twist he body also drops to the deck.

Despite the successes of the rest of the party, Coer has a terrible time of things. The world has gone dark to him (in one of the first successful castings of blindness that this DM has seen!) and his attacks hit naught but air.

The enemy respond...

Kito (E1) smiles evilly at Keiki and stabs at the elf this time. The scimitar cuts deeply (Attack vs AC16: 19 = Hit. Keiki takes 7pts damage!)

Unhappy that her first attack was unsuccessful, Ivary (E2) tries once again to harm Yel'kno. A burning ray shoots from her fingertips striking the captain (Attack vs AC14 (Touch Attack): 17 = Hit. Yel'kno takes 16 fire damage!)

Thorgunna (E6) sneers at the turncoat Shemeska. He slashes at the traitor with his scimitar (Attack vs AC19: 20 = Hit. Shemeska takes 5pts damage!)

The enemy ship is still turning to make a return pass.

As if things couldn't get more strange... two humans come running up the stairs near Jozhur and Shemeska and immediately dive overboard!

When Spire mentions Hoofstomper, the short squat fellow falls off the railing onto the deck.

"OH! Yeah, now I remember you! Well, gosh, why are you worried about meeting the Master?"

"Some groups need a raise, agree to pay on the installment plan, and then end up needing another raise before they've paid off the first one. AWKWARD! And like I said, some groups give the Boss some lip, and they pay the price. I can understand why they don't want no repeat visit. But you folks are clean with the Big Guy. You got no debts outstanding, and you did the Master a favor, even. Seems to me you got nothin' to worry about."

Then the ghost of Spire asks if he could see Gargul.

"Sure, sure, you'll see him. Everybody sees him. Everybody who dies, that is. But don't think you got any bargaining power. Once you're dead, you're his. He owns you. You got no leverage. You got no coin. If you want to go back to the Wold, or cut some kind of deal, you got to get the living to bargain on your behalf."

"Sure, you can fight. Fight the call. You wanna be a ghost? Or a shadow? 'The undead you will always have with you,' the bard says. But the Boss don't like them hijinks none too much, so watch out if get caught."

"But if you think you can bargain ... and I see that gleam in your eye ... well, sorry, you can't. Get your living pals to bargain for you."

BTW, Spire notices that under the scene, or maybe superimposed on top of it, he sees a network of dull red lines like a web superimposed over everything he can see.

Keiki lunges to grapple Kito. The human slashes once more with his sword, connecting with force (AoO vs AC16: 26 = Hit. Keiki takes 11 points damage!) Keiki pushes through the pain to grapple the enemy captain.

Jozhur makes the assumption that the two people who jumped overboard must have been the prisoners - that or the crew really have no faith on the outcome of this battle. He picks up his sword and tumbles up the stairs to flank the enemy currently at the helm of the Lionfish.

Captain Yel'kno advances towards the enemy caster. Moving up the stairs he swings his rapier at her and hears it give a satisfying 'thwack' against her thigh. No blood can be seen however. (Attack vs AC14: 13 = Miss!)

Coer does his best to determine the location of the enemy caster and throws three shurikan in her direction. Though he hears two embed solidly into the ship, the third hits something 'softer'. He should hope it wasn't his Captain! (OOC: I'm calling it a DC10 perception check to determine the location of an enemy by sound. At the moment you have a -2 penalty for distance, -2 for Unfavourable Conditions (ie: battle noise) and -5 for you being distracted (ie: also trying to ready/defend yourself in battle. On a roll of 19 you made it exactly. E2 takes 16 damage!)

Shemeska feels no sadness in attacking his former captors. He DOES feel the sting of Thorgunna's blade, and promises to deliver the man to Gargul's judgement. Two arrows are shot in quick succession into the man's chest (Attacks vs AC16 both hit. OOC: A 5ft step NE takes you down the stairs, and is an area you can't 5ft step to. Instead I've taken the liberty of moving you elsewhere where your actions can still apply)

The enemy respond...

Though grappled, Kito (E1) continues trying to skewer Keiki. (Keiki is grappled (-2 to AC) and not fighting defensively anymore (another -2 to AC) so attack VS AC12: 12 = Hit! Keiki takes 11 points damage!)

Ivary (E2) backs further up the stairs, casting another spell (Cast Sound Burst, targetting I10. Yel'kno and Coer take 4pts damage and must make a Fort save vs DC16 or be stunned for 1 round!). She looks about, seemingly running out of places to hide.

Thorgunna (E6) turns and tries to bring his sword clean down on Jozhur's head, but the rogue is too quick. The sword comes down on the deck with such force that it would have split Jozhur's head in two (Attack vs AC18: 15 = Miss!)

Yel'kno once again makes a light attack against Ivary, though this time he is able to draw some blood.

Keiki tries a novel approach for dealing with Kito, trying to throw the Captain overboard. And you know what, your DM will allow it for creativity alone! Keiki uses all his strength to wrestle Kito over the side of the ship and goes to drop the enemy captain. Kito, for his part, manages to catch hold of the railing (There are probably a number of checks that should probably be made here - eg: strength - but I'll work those out later. For now you proceed in throwing Kito over. Per the acrobatics rules, a person can make a DC20 reflex check to grab hold of something to prevent a fall. Ref check for Kito vs DC20: 23 - Nat20!)

Coer - as well as being blind - is now a little deaf by the sudden burst of sound behind him. It takes him a moment to regain his bearings.

Between them, Jozhur and Shemeska account for Thorgunna - Jozhur with a stab to the back whilst Shem plugs two arrows into the enemy's front. Thorgunna drops lifeless to the deck.

The enemy respond...

Ivary tumbles to the other side of the ship (Acrobatics check: 26 = pass) before pointing a thin, bony finger at Keiki. A sharp icicle forms and shoots with force at him. The witch feels the ice penetrate his chest and chill his veins (Use Water domain ability. Ranged Touch attack vs AC13: 15 = Hit. Keiki takes 4pts damage!) Ivary practically cackles "I got the traitor, Cap'n!"

Kito pulls himself up to once again board the Lionfish. With Keiki seemingly in hand the human smiles an evil grin. He spies another with the blood of the elves - Yel'kno. He stomps across the deck and with a curse of "I shall rid the Wold of every one of your tainted kind! he slashes heavily at Yel'kno's side, cutting him deeply (Attack vs AC19: 29 = Hit! Yel'kno takes 11 damage! OOC: Please update your header. By my tally you have taken 16fire damage + 4 sound damage + 11 damage now from Kito = 31damage?) The captains now stand face to face.

A good round for the enemy

"Now, what was that? Ah, yes, the Woldsblood. What you see are the capilaries of the Wold. They pulse with Woldsblood. In a few more moments you will feel it pulling on you. It carries all the souls of the dead to the Lands of Rest. As it carries the sparks of the unborn to their mothers as well. All life flows in and out along the rivulets of Woldsblood. If you are dead for long, odds are you will be carried downstream, carried to my Master, and to judgement."

The short squat ugly fellow stands up straight and sticks out a grubby hand. "I'm Gimp, of course. You knew that, right? Everybody knows me." He grins mischeviously.

"Well," says Gimp, "I'm not supposed to encourage the undead, but I like you kid. You're essentially a ghost, right? So act ghostly like. You know, like 'woooooo!' Or shatter some crockery, move a ouji board, whisper in an ear, like that. Just promise me that you won't try to stay in the Wold after this fight ends."

Spire, do you so promise?

OOC: Spire, you are on a ghost ship in the Realm of Shadows, 50 ft from the Lionfish. You may try any of the following as a standard action. Pick one that you want to try, highlight the spoiler, try it.

1) Move: Highlight to display spoiler: {Roll 3d6 vs your Int. If you roll under, you can "fly" your usual movement rate in feet. Also, if you succeed, any moves you make after the first are move actions, although you still have to roll 3d6 under your Int to do so.Highlight to display spoiler:}

2) Whisper: Highlight to display spoiler: {You can speak by rolling 5d4 vs your Wis. If you roll under, you may whisper in the ear of one living person. They will hear you if they make a DC20 Perception check, with the standard -1 penalty for each intervening 10 ft of distance between you. After you succeed, you may repeat this as a move action, although you still have to roll 5d4 under your Int to do so.}

3) Wail: Highlight to display spoiler: {You can wail in the ear of an enemy by rolling 1d20 vs your Cha. If you do so, the target must make a will save vs DC10 + your level + your Cha modifier. The target gains a +1 on the save for each intervening 10 ft of space between you. If the target fails, he is shaken. However, note that wailing effects stack, possibly leading to fright and panic. Doing this is always a standard action, and you must roll 1d20 under your Cha to do so.}

4) Ghost Touch Attack: Highlight to display spoiler: {You may make a melee touch attack against any target in reach as a standard action, rolling your usual touch attack -- and you gain the standard +2 for being invisible and your target loses its dex bonus unless it can see into the Realm of Shadows. If you succeed, the target takes 1 hp damage for each of your character levels. This damage bypasses all energy resistance and/or damage reduction. You gain no other bonus damage and you apply no sneak attack damage. You do not flank and you cannot Aid Another or use any special attacks.}

Spire, you are on your honor to read only one spoiler per round, and only the one you attempt.

Sorry Shem, your actions were recorded its just I forgot to include it in the summary

Jozhur advances on the enemy spellcaster and FINALLY ends her meddling. He is satisfied with the amount of blood drawn, but perhaps moreso by her body hidding the deck.

Keiki goes to draw a wand, but then reconsiders it (Please see my post on the rules forum)

Yel'kno remains bleeding profusely on the deck, his body unable to stop the flow (Yel'kno takes 1pt damage!)

Shemeska somehow manages to shoot a dagger out of a mans hand, who is engaged in combat, from 45feeet away!

Coer stays confused as to who is where. He holds on to his shuriken for this round, wary about causing more harm than good.

Kito looks about. He seems moderately troubled to be the only pirate still standing. Still, if he is going to be killed he is going to take someone with him. He tumbles away from Keiki to land next to Yel'kno. "Looks like one more you failed to save Coerator! I'll save you for last" he taunts the taur, before stomping heavily on Yel'knos body (Acrobatics check: 22. Hit vs helpless touch AC10: 19 = Hit. Yel'kno takes 6pts damage!)

Kito looks about quickly sizing up his opponents. This ship seems full of traitors, not least the archer to the south. He spits towards Shemeska and raises his fists "You man enough for a fair fight? Course, when I win I'll just snap your neck"

The enemy ship appears to be no longer turning. The distance between them and the Lionfish is increasing as they head southwards.

This Round:
Keiki is angered and tears begin falling from his eyes. Never in over 10 years has he cried and he realizes it is because he never had hope before. And now, in front of his eyes, his oppressor is systematically killing his hope, the Lionfish one person at a time.

What is even more frustrating is that Keiki has no magic to assist the heroes, and is dancing with the Gray Lord himself so closing with Kito isn't a good idea either. But he WON'T go back!

Keiki taps himself again with his wand and moves to the base of the stair, again threatening Kito behind his back.

He points to the dead body of Yel'kno, from which is rising, to Spire's eyes, a ghostly duplicate of his old friend.

OOC: Yel'kno, regardless of your final disposition, feel free to play now as a disembodied spirit, interacting with Spire and the short fellow at will, and maybe with your living friends if you can manage it.

He tries not to let the rest of the crew see the tears he sheds for his fallen comrades. He's rather upset with himself for underestimating Kito and not aiding his fellow crew in time.

He looks to Coer and frowns. If only he was fully in the fight, things would have gone a lot different. Poor guy.

"Yes, I suppose you could say we won, Coer. But we lost our captain and wizard."

Jozhur walks to retrieve his longbow while addressing the remaining Elf-Blood crew member on the ship.

"I noticed you helped kill off your captain and at least one fellow crew member, I hope and trust you won't be trying to harm us, you're quite a shot with that bow."

Tuesday June 25th, 2013 10:21:08 AM

ooc: Silly Tanner, :-), the DM gets to choose if we are in or out of combat rounds, and since he never said battle was over, I went with it. Besides, the Wold doesn't use initiative and uses posting order as the order of action.

From Woldipedia: Initiative: Every time the rules give a bonus to initiative, the Wold translates that into a bonus to hit points. If the bonus depends on circumstance, or has a duration, treat it as temporary hit points that apply when the bonus kicks in. If the bonus is permanent, then treat it as a permanent bonus to maximum hit points.

ooc2: if the kind DM gives us experience now, Keiki may be able to get to 5th level and be able to cast Dispel Magic tomorrow for COer's blindness. Witches can't raise dead until 9th lvl so unless we get a deux ex machina we are out of luck.

......................

Keiki ignores the thinly veiled threats of the drow, quite used to people blustering, and concentrates on what the archer actually does. When he lowers his bow, the half-elf also lowers his wand and puts it away. "Then we are the same, though I was never given the 'join' option. As I did, you took the first means to escape. I am glad it only took you months."

Satisfied that Shem won't immediately kill them all, Keiki turns about to see the situation; Lionfish dead in the water for a day, ElfBloods fleeing over the horizon, Selkie prisoners escaped, Coer blinded, and Spire and the Captain laying dead on the deck. He mentally gives himself a shake and goes about to answer Coer. "My Power has not given me the knowledge of restoring Coer's sight, nor return the Captain and Spire to life. Perhaps there is something on the bodies of the enemy that may help?"

While Coer, Jozhur, and Shemeska either follow or ignore the gentle suggestion, Keiki prepares the bodies of Spire and Yel'kno for a long journey. Using Prestidigitation to clean the bodies, and Gentle Repose to preserve them from decay, Keiki gives his companions comfort in death where he could not do so in life.

Despite him only just having killed their friend, the party take Shemeska's presence surprisingly well.

Jozhur searches the bodies of the fallen enemies carefully. He discovers:
3 x Ordinary looking scimitars

He also finds a note on Kito's body. It reads ""They should be near the coordinates. Make sure none of them make it out alive. Annoir."

In the water Jozhur spies a human body floating face down. Several puncture wounds - larger than an arrow - are seen through the body.

Once they are all lined up, he draws his dagger and starts at the front of the line. Each corpse gets a hole stabbed in their ribcage on each side, followed by a switch hitch of their belt to send them over the side and into the ocean. Kito receives special attention, earning not one but three stabbings on each side before being tossed. Finished, Shemeska wipes his dagger on his pant leg and sheathes it at his belt.

If the user meets all the requirements (divine or arcane, on Keiki's spell list, correct ability score: YES), and her caster level is at least equal to the spell's caster level, she can automatically activate the spell without a check. If she meets all three requirements but her own caster level is lower than the scroll spell's caster level (YES), then she has to make a caster level check (DC = scroll's caster level + 1) to cast the spell successfully. Keiki's Caster Level check (d20+caster level vs scroll caster level +1)(d20+4 vs 12)

Caster Check : 22 !!!

"Is there but a single scroll to raise the dead? Which will we choose to return?"

The Short Ugly Man and Spire and Yel'kno
Thursday June 27th, 2013 6:42:09 AM

The squat fellow elbows Spire in the side. Well, actually, because he is short, in the side of Spire's knee. Hey Bubs!" he says to the two dead friends, "Looks like they are talking about you. Now might be a good time to talk TO them, huh?"

Meanwhile, the web of red lines, the streams of red rivulets, is pulsing somewhat with a clear rhythm. The pulse is hypnotic ... compelling.

Yel'kno, please make a DC10 Will save or be pulled to the edge of one of the rivulets.

Spire, you too feel the pull, but you find yourself more able to resist it. Nonetheless, you do feel it too, and it is getting stronger. Pretty soon you'll have to start making saves too.

OOC: You can speak by rolling 5d4 vs your Wis. If you roll under, you may whisper in the ear of one living person. They will hear you if they make a DC20 Perception check. Spire, we'll assume you can float over to your desired target, since you are out of combat. You can keep trying until you succeed. Yel'kno, if you fail your will save, you will end up 10-40 ft from your desired target, thus bumping up the perception DC by 1 to 4.

Jozhur picks up one of the daggers and places it in the empty space on his belt.

"I barely know anything about sailing, but I suppose I can accept the title, at least until we get your sight restored or Captain Yel'kno is back with us. I'll see what the nearest ports are so we can decide where to head once the Lionfish is freed."

He turns to Shemeska "As for you, as far as I'm concerned, you're welcome aboard the Lionfish. I'm not happy about about you killing our dear friend Spire, but I understand you were doing what you had to. I'm just glad you helped us out in the end. The rest of the crew may not be so quick to forgive you, and you certainly have a lot of trust to earn."

"If you wish stay with us, you're entitled to a fair share of any profits. If you don't wish to stay with us, you're free to leave at the next port you can even jump overboard right now if you'd like."

Spirysn'rar Kilarn (Ian) AC 13/13/11 - CMD 14 - HP -10/13 - DEAD  5d4=14 ;
Thursday June 27th, 2013 6:54:44 PM

Spire rubs his eyes, trying to stave off the Woldsblood and its terrible pull. You can do this... He looks at Gimp and nods, silently thanking the ugly little man for his help. Knowing the tauric monk Coer to have the sharpest ears, he floats up to the minotaur. (5d4 vs DC17=14!)

"Coerator," Spire whispers urgently, wringing his ghostly hands. "Please... if you can hear me... bring back Captain Yel'Kno. The Lionfish is in his name. You need him alive. But, if Gargul is willing to listen..." Spire touches the place around his throat where his holy symbol lies. "I... I am willing to dedicate my life to him. As... as one of his clerics. Tell him that, please." Spire sighs, hoping the message can cross through the veil.

Coer returns to his barrel seat cautious not to step on anyone. His senses are working overtime as he tries to take stock of the Wold in darkness.

"Im not crazy friends. But i heard a new voice earlier. In my head. It said Claudien did not lead the Kelpies of this area and will leave us alone and that...."Coer trails off and looks to his side.

It cant be... Spire? is that you... he whispers.

After a moment he turns to the others (well, where he thinks the others are) "Men, Spire is speaking to me. I'm pretty sure im not crazy!" he relays Spire's message from beyond the grave.

Yel'kno (Jon) AC 19/14/15 CMD 17 HP -12/31 -- DEAD  5d4=14 ; d20=12 ; d4=1 ;
Thursday June 27th, 2013 9:40:13 PM

Yel'kno stares at the pulsing red webbing a moment and even raises a hand as though to touch one, but moves his hand away with a shake of his and looks up to Spire as he tries to speak with Coer. (Will Save 16)

"No Spire.. I am not to be raised. After our last meeting with Gargul I do not trust him and do not wish my crew to be beholden to him on my behalf... I am a follower of Eberyon. Just as the King of the Wold's Cradle was reborn so too may I be one day."

And then he sets his will towards moving over to Coer in an effort to whisper in his ear, but cannot bring himself close enough (14 vs 12 WIS, fail) drifting instead some 10' away (1 on a d4) and yelling out, "No, Coer. Raise Spire. You were all officers of the ship. It will pass to you."

Co-DM Rob - Who to save?
Thursday June 27th, 2013 10:01:31 PM

Keiki is excited by the discovery of the Raise Dead scroll, but as Shemeska astutely points out - there is only one. Who will the party choose to try and revive?

Coer starts hearing even more voices. First Kelpies, then Spire and then Yel'kno. Perhaps when this day is over the taur should see a cleric?

The spirit of Spire wants the scroll to be used to save the Captain, whereas Yel'kno is adamant the scroll should be used to save Spire.

Keiki begins the ritual, casting the spell from the scroll...

Shemeska raises an eyebrow. "You hear his voice from beyond the grave? It must be terribly important, then. Either way, we must choose but one of them. The other we can keep fresh until we put into port and find another scroll."
