The riders' face is a picture of stunned agony. Barratore stands up and makes a hurried attack, missing the beast by a whisker. Gerox shows his concern for Brom by calling him stupid. Maybe the insult will convince the Barbarian to stop fighting? He fires three missiles into the orcs before trying to draw them away. Peza fires another bolt, this time at Hert's attacker . The bolt pierces the orcs chest and flips it backwards (another kill shot for Peza) Edson changes his aim as W4 is toppled by Peza. He instead fires at Orc 5, hitting charred leather and making little damage. Free of immediate attackers, Hert runs to assist Brom. He swings his sword and almost effortlessly removes the top half of Orc 5's head. How can he remain? How is it that with such grievous wounds he still stands? That the Rager can fight in this way is a thing of amazement. But nearly all of the Green Skins have fallen.
"Yield," growls Harvest Moon to the Green Skin who faces her. The two swift kicks that she delivers put weight behind her demand.
Once again, Harvest Moon looks about for other attackers. Animals do not often fight unto death amongst themselves. They know when to yield or when to flee. Even bandits know this. What is it then that causes these Green Skins to throw themselves against us like waves that crash upon stone?
She will put this one to question, thinks Harvest Moon, returning her attention to the Green Skin before her. Then she will find out.

"Yip!" Harvest Moon leaps into the air as the orc falls. Above her head she brandishes the polearm in both hands. Then, with a look back to the Catfolk, she adds, "Kuuuu!"
But, now that the Green Skins have been driven off, it is time to discover why they have come and why they attack The People. Harvest Moon extracts the coil of fine rope from her magic bag and uses it to bind the unconscious orc. After a nod of approval to her binding, the half-elfish girl raises her hands into the air and closes her eyes. Flash Bright holy light bursts from her small, thin form. The light soothes and heals. Not only her friends, but the orc as well. Flash Again. And then once more.
"We will now put you to the question," growls Harvest Moon to the Green Skin. She leaps upon his bound form, grasping the collar of his armor and drawing its face up close to her own. "And do not think that you can die. You will not escape so easily in that way. We can make you live a long time. A long time to dying," she growls and then allows it to fall back to the earth.
She raises her nose to the evening air. To her elf-born eyes, the moons bath the land in silver daylight. "Please ask the Green Skin why they attack the people, Gerox Shale," she says. The gnome speaks the best of all the League Adventurers. He would be the best to draw answers from the orc. "Tell it that we will find the one who did not fight." He will think of the best questions.
They would have stopped upon spying the Catfolk. They would have stopped and gathered around, watching and preparing themselves. Such is what large groups would do. It is at this place that watchers would have separated from the main group.
Harvest Moon pads off in the direction from which the Green Skins had launched their attack. "I go to read the tracks," she tells the others. The tracks would break off from the general trample of the main group. It should not be difficult to spy. This is especially so as the Green Skins came to their attack in one close group.
She follows the trail back, skirting the edges of the Green Skin progress. Perhaps there will be something to be learned from the trail of the Green Skin watchers.

Hert and Peza follow Harvest moon with Peza leaving a clear trail for others to follow. Gerox has not heard of the Orc's General and agrees to let the beast live - so it may be tracked to the enemy camp. He tries to persuade Brom that this is a good idea. Barratore has not heard of the Orc's General, but thinks it may be Scully. He draws his sword just in case and stands near the People. The Orcs were here to kill them and the threat may not be over. He asks the others if they should all follow Harvest? Edson confirms he will stay here and leave the chase to the trackers. The Orc sneers at him as his pebble bounces off its flat nose. Brom ignores Gerox and executes the captive with a single blow. He explains that the Orc would only have led them to a trap.
=====> Harvest emerges from the trees follow a short time later by Peza and Hert. The trail leads to a newly constructed dock. ====================================================== Harvest Moon examines the cable. It is taught and connected to a basic pulley. A sharp tug on the cable shows that harvest cannot move the ferry alone. She jumps on the cable and finds she can keep her balance. She walks along the cable with ease making it 40 ft out. She is approximately 110ft from the ferry which is rocking gently on the current. There is no lights on board and no movement can be seen. There appears to be a structure on the ferry. Peza tries to convince Hert to assist in pulling the ferry to shore. Hert admires Moon's grace and stays hidden in the scrub. ====================================================== The Brothers quickly pack their tent and douse the fire before lining up with Brom at the tree line. Brom sets the pace while looking for danger, heading straight into the forest in the direction Harvest Moon went. His keen eyes spot no dangers, but spots the deliberate tracks left by Peza. Edson shakes his head as what has just transpired but follows Brom. Gerox looks down at the slaughtered orc and sighs. He follows the others into the trees. ======================================================
The Moon rises high into the night as the troop makes their way through the thick jungle. No dangers are spotted except for a few large bugs that are persistently looking for a free feed. After a while Fifth brother speaks softly "Brrom sirr.... The rrroad also goes to the docks. Perrrhaps we should have gone that way"
Harvest Moon is balancing above the relatively calm water, bobbing on the cable with each step. Luckily the wind is but a mere breeze and balance is easy. Does she proceed or return to her comrades at the docks. The ferry is situated halfway to the other shore. The stretch of water is about 300ft across.

It is certain ...
All thought is arrested as the instincts of Harvest Moon fight to compensate for a random sway of the cable. She feels her center connecting to the movement of the cable. The rhythm of the cable becomes a known thing.
It ... is certain that The Watcher did not come this way. And yet his tracks ran to the docks. Did he swim? She can walk upon the cable much faster than The Watcher can swim. That is also certain. One misstep and she would fall to the water. But that is not such a bad thing.
Harvest Moon continues over the silvery moon-lit waters. Foot after foot she crosses. The ferry is not so far away. But that is not the goal. The goal is to find The Watcher.

Peza and Hert make thier way onto the dock but refrain from touching the cable upon which Harvest moon is balanced. Peza can not see any mechanisim for controling the ferry from the dock but while she looks her foot knocks a small glass vial, hard to see in the low light unless actually looking for it. The vial has a picture of a bird on it.
She examines the road and spots a crude sign pointing south: RUM CITY. The road looks to have been a track that has widened with use. Clearly the citizens of Rum City have been venturing beyond the city walls. Enough so, that a ferry to the mainland has been established.
The rest of the party emerges from the trees and meets Hert and Peza on the dock.
Harvest moon continues along the cable, step by step holding her balance. The wind however is becoming stronger as she closes in on the boat. She is looking for the watcher, but noone is seen. Suddenly a wave crests against the ships hull and it lurches, causing the cables to follow it.

"Orcs?" The acuminated ears of Harvest Moon seem to prick up at the word. "We are pursuing orcs," she says as she hops from the cable into the ferry. "One came this way. I followed his trail to the end of the dock. I think ... " She scampers to the far edge of the ferry and peers out into the silvery night, scanning the surface of the narrows that separate Rum the City from Rum the Island. "I think that he must have tried to swim. But I see nothing of him on the waters."

Without hesitation Harvest Moon takes up the gnarled root with the shape of Domi's fist that hangs from her belt. After a few whispered words a glow transfers from her fingers to the gnome and his injuries melt away.
It is not difficult now to guess the manner in which the orcs crossed the narrows from the main island. But the manner in which The Watcher escaped her, however, is still quite perplexing. The potion bottle is the final piece of the puzzle. That is how The Watcher managed his escape. He flew across the waters. It would be good to fly, thinks Harvest Moon as she settles upon the ferry, the rise and fall of the waves drawing the rhythms of sleep. Someday. Someday she will fly.
The first light of day playing upon the waves finds Harvest Moon already awake. Her observances long complete, she sits atop the square box that is the home of Ferryman Adva Carlin and she gazes north. North, atop the spine of the island is the valley of the catfolk. North, may be gathering the mercenary group lead by a two headed giant. Today, her head much clearer than before, Harvest Moon recalls much much more about two headed giants.

OoC: I think you did, Gerox. I have us at a good 2000+ XP over entry into Level 6. You can access my CS. I have all the XP documented by date. There are a few things you won't have. Hero point XP, frx. But, otherwise, yours should be the same as mine. Check to see that you have everything that I do.
Hert AC 24(23ff 11t) HP 37/47 CMD 16(15ff) Tuesday July 2nd, 2013 2:22:46 PM "Shouldn't we set up a watch?" asks Hert as they camp. "It isn't really safe with all the orcs around."
Regardless of whether others accept his proposal, he himself takes the first watch, going to sleep a bit earlier and spends his late night in prayers and taking care of his equipment, polishing his armor and sharpening his sword.
Early in the morning, he performs one of his rituals. He makes himself a praying spot, drawing an eye on the ground. As he whispers chants, suddenly white smoke starts to seep from beneath his cloak, slowly filling the praying spot. When Hert finishes the ritual, the smoke dissolves and he looks pale and tired but happy.
"Shall we go?" he asks after he gets help donning his armor.

Agreeing with Hert " yes setting a watch is warrented ... I'll take the dreaded second watch " laughs Peza .... the raven haired girl sleeps soundly early before waking for her turn at watch ... then naps tell morning .... waking refreshed as the ferry arrives on the mainland ... Peza thanks the gnome " thanks for the help .... we'll take care of the orcs and whoever's tune they march too "

Edson take the watch given to him, and keeps quiet. He does his job, and quickly heads to bed as soon as he is relieved. When morning comes, he awakes and gets ready for the day. Thanks the gnome and awaits to see what the others want to do.

Gerox will also go to sleep taking his turn at guard if needed. When he wakes up, he will walk up to Third Brother and say, "Its time to move on. We need to get back to your people and find out why someone is hiring a mercenary band to drive you out or just plan kill you. Do you know who it might be that hired them?"
Barratore Steelwind (Dan K) AC: 22 (T 16 FF 14), CMD: 24; HP:64/64Character Sheet Wednesday July 3rd, 2013 8:56:32 AM
Barratore takes the first watch with Hert nervously looking about the small and seemingly crowded ferry for the most of it. Sleeping aboard a ship was one thing, but on such a fragile craft in the middle of the river. It did not set well with the fighter. Baratore is able to put himself to sleep, an ability born from years of practice of willing oneself to tune out distraction and sleep.
Morning comes and he stows his gear, dons his armor and checks through his weapons. "Where in Warrds left sock is my bow?" Barratore moves about the barge and as the moments pass, he becomes more and more agitated and aggressive in his search. Curses roll through his mind and lectures from his parents and instructors about losing things and paying attention. The minotaur moves from side to side, bow to stern to no avail and getting more and more frustrated. Where in the shadow realm is it. It can't simply get up and walk away. Maddening, maybe that was it, maybe he caught something that was attacking his mind. Not likely, but then where was it? He had it just the other day and then during the orc attack....
Barratore's teeth begin to grind as he realizes where his bow was and why. Barratore turns to the gnome, "I need to go back across"
The General - Co-DM Mark Wednesday July 3rd, 2013 7:52:36 PM Brom accepts the gnome's offer and sleeps through the night, clearly needing a rest after the physical trauma his body received just a few hours earlier. In the morn he prepares to set off to the valley of the people. Harvest Moon pieces it together. The watcher used a potion to fly across the river. She vows to fly someday too. She wakes before dawn to observe the northern skyline of mountainous spine that divides the island in two. What is happening in the north? Harvest's dreams having unravelled her tangled memory. Ettin -- two headed giant. Vicious hunters that stalk the night. Ettins superficially resemble hill or stone giants, although their tusked facial features betray Orc blood in their lineage. Hert takes the first watch and is joined by Barratore as the others sleep. He wakes early to complete his morning rituals before preparing to head off. Peza agrees to take the second watch before napping some more. In the morning she agrees to kill the Orcs -- and their leaders. Edson and Gerox take the third watch before dawn. They wake the brothers and thank Adva Carlin for his assistance. Gerox question TB about the Orc's motives. I do not know. Mother will see you when we rrretun to the Valley. Mother will know what the grrrrreenskins want with the People. [bb]Barratore [/b] is nervous on the seemingly fragile vessel and takes the first watch with Hert. He forces himself to sleep and come morning he prepares to leave searching for his bow. When he remembers it was forgotten in the haste to get here he tells the others they must go back.
~~~~~~~~~
Adva is happy to take to across the water again -- at no cost! It appears you have made a good ally. Do you all return with Barratore ? Does anyone continue to the Valley? Fourth Brother confirms that if you return you should make it back to the Valley before sunset.
Dm Note: so... are we all 6th level now?
Waking Peza gathers her belongings ... readying for the trip to the valley ... but hearing Barratores distress about his missing bow ...
" well it should be just down the road ... in the clearing of the battlefield ...not far at all .... shouldnt take that much time .... that mighty bow will be handy in the fight versus the general and his lackeys "
"First, lets get Barry's bow, and then we can figure out Wich way we should Go. Maybe the valley is the best to make sure the brothers are ok. Just my opinion, but I am sure One of us will just go running off anyways."
Barrattore catches the bow and then hands it to the nearest person, Peza. "He's going to want that back." Not really caring what the rest of the group does, Barratore moves to the center of the ferry. "Whenever you are ready Ferryman."
Barratore exits on the far side and heads back to the battlefield. Unfortunately, Hert moved the bodies about in his preparations to send them on their way and the battle does not look as he remembered it. Of course, Barratore's memory is one of the problems in the first place.
Perception 10 He begins his search. moving about the area in a fairly haphazzard fashion.
