Rules and More

DM David
Monday July 1st, 2013 3:24:18 AM

It is just before dusk and looking around you see that the entire town has turned out for the event and that there are a large number of halflings that are very obviously from out of town. You are all gathered inside the pavilion. At the front stands a well built stage. The stage has a podium centered at the front. And standing behind the podium is a Halfling. Not just any Halfling mind you, but one with a red vest pulled tightly over his bulging belly, a fancy grey overcoat on top of that, with white shirt cuffs just peeking out beyond the coat sleeves. Rapping on the podium with a thin short stick a number of times, the sound echoes through the pavilion. Once he feels he's gotten everyone's attention, he addresses the crowd.

"Good afternoon ladies and fellers, allow me to introduce myself, for those of you who may not know me already. I am the Mayor of the wonderful town of Humbles Ford, the one, the only; Bingo BumbleLuck! We are gathered here today in celebration of another year well lived, three hundred and sixty five days have came and gone and yet here we stand, in Humbles Ford, the best of all the settlements in the "Crescent"! What better reason to celebrate, than for Humbles Ford to host this year's annual Crescent Valley Competition?
I am here under this very pavilion to discuss with you the rules for this year's Crescent Valley Competition. As you know there are always three components to the games. Two team components and a third that lies more with the individuals of each team."

"Our first event of the 'Crescent Valley Competition' this year will be a Scavenger Hunt."
The mayor takes a big breath and shuffles some papers around a bit, flipping through a few before slapping one down on top of the podium, and poking it hard with his index finger.

"Rule Number 1: All competitors must be part of a team. No team may be smaller than 6 members and no larger than 9 members. So gather your teammates, or form into teams if you haven't, and register your group with Mister Roscoe Hornblower over there at the other end of the Pavilion. You will need to sign your team up today before leaving here, or you will not be allowed to participate in the games!" Rosco Hornblower is seen to be sitting behind a table with many forms on it. You can see there is already a short line of halflings waiting at the foot of his table.

"Rule Number 2: Keep it clean folks. No nonsense will be tolerated."
At this, the Mayor seems to shoot a glare towards your area of the crowd, although you can't be sure as to whom he's referring to (Perception DC 13).

"Rule Number 3: For the scavenger hunt, you must return to the finish line and the judges with all 4 required items before sundown tomorrow. Our Judges will introduce themselves to you shortly.

Rule Number 4: No one may begin their search any earlier than I say 'Let the Games Begin' tomorrow morning.

Rule Number 5: Let's have FUN!!

And Finally,

Rule Number 6: If ANYONE is CAUGHT CHEATING, they will be immediately disqualified from their team and this year's games."

At this, the Mayor again looks to the group in the back of the crowd with a serious glare. It seems that there may have been trouble with this group in the past years during the Games. (Perception DC13)

"The details of the second and third events will be given each morning, one hour before they're scheduled to start, right here at this very pavilion."

"Oh yes, competitors. I would use this time between today and tomorrow wisely. Newcomers, get to know the townsfolk, as some of them may or may not want to help you during the games. Get to know Humbles Ford itself, make yourself familiar with where things are. Plan ahead as best as you can for the games, as I assure you, your competitors will not hold back! And now, I'm off. I bid you all a good day!"

With this, he then exits the stage right, and walks down the steps, and off of to somewhere behind the stage. Just as he disappears off the stage you hear the sound of a large bell ringing and then as you look up you see three quite quirky looking individuals on the stage standing behind the podium. One of them is a male, dressed in long blue robes with a pointy blue hat to match. One of them is a female, she has long blonde hair, braided neatly and flowing halfway down the back of her green lacy dress. The third is yet another male, this one wearing red robes and a matching pointy red hat. Their robes and the female's lacy dress all have shiny gold matching designs that look something like stars connected by lightning bolts throughout the garments.

The two in robes bow simultaneously, while the lady gives a curtsey in her green dress. They introduce themselves one at a time from left to right, the red-robed halfling starting them out, "I am Tolman Montajay!" Then the lady in the green dress, "I'm Amaryllis Greenbottle!" Then last, the blue-robed male, "And I'm called Theadric Redleaf !" Then, they rise up together and address the crowd in unison. "And together, we are the Second Dinner Club! We are proud to have been selected to be this year's judges for the Crescent Valley Competition!" Montajay and Redleaf take a step back, and cross their arms at their chests to let the lady do the talking. The group as a whole has an air of confidence around them and they definitely don't look to be nervous at all. It seems as if this may have been rehearsed more than a few times the way they are in sync with each others' movements and dialogue.

Amaryllis Greenbottle further introduces the Second Dinner Club to the crowd. "For those of you who do not know who we are and what we do, let me explain. As we said, we are known as the Second Dinner Club, and we live together in the North Tower over there." With this, she points to the north side of town. If you weren't packed in a crowd under a temporary pavilion, you could easily see the North Tower from here, or just about anywhere in Humbles Ford for that matter. She goes on, "We are the mages that keep up with the general maintenance of the Giant Towers. These towers, as you all should know, prevent the Giant kind from the Scab from coming into Crescent Valley and destroying our lovely homes. We are also inventors in our spare time, constantly experimenting in our tower. This year we were asked to judge the competitions in this year's Crescent Valley Competition, and we gladly accepted the offer. May you all have a good time, and please play nice! Thank you all for coming out!"

"So, everyone who wishes to partake in this year's games should find your teams and get signed up."

With that, the pavilion bursts into a swarm activity. Conversations erupt as halflings head in every direction. Groups can be seen heading for the registration table. Many wear various pieces of similarly colored garb to identify themselves as a team.

Flimsipold burst as if shot out of a cannon, and with an all too appropriate sound as well. Indeed, he clapped very much loudly using a special technique of his, which he always promises to share without ever actually following up on it. This clap of his served to add yet another note of finality to BumbleLuck's all too monotonous speech during which, Flim was shaking so very thoroughly with frustration.

"Well then!" He squeaked in his very distinct, high pitched enunciation, hands beckoning of the others just as his hairy feet began stomping their way to the registration table with a determination only truly fitting for a bigun. "We gotta sign up, do what we do, and then win. And when we win, I can use our time on the podium to holler at my dame!" Yes, he grinned widely, clapping once more just to reinforce this statement. "And with the prize I will buy her the prize winning turnip - are they still holding that? Or the prize winning pet or something... yeah! I think Mulberry likes.. well, I don't actually know what she likes, but it's the thought what counts, innit?"

So did Flim drift off into one of his all too familiar rants about the uncanny nature of Mulberry DrinkWater, and all the steps he plans on undertaking to this end. In reality, he only really stopped from rambling about it when, struck by a realization, he significantly reduced his once determined pace. "What're we gonna name the team?" He cleared his throat, taking on a very gentlemanly posture and demeanor, combined with this ever so slightly less pitched vocalization he claimed was the deep voice of a bigun. "I propose 'MulberryGoOutWithMe'." He followed this up with a solemn nod.

Roll is Perception.

"Geez, what a long speech. Just let us go," the tiny one known as Shel thinks to herself as she bounces, shifting her weight back and forth, as she wanted to get down to business. Just before she lost her focus entirely, she did notice the mayor staring toward particular groups of the competitors.

She heads toward her group of friends nodding as she approaches them. "Alrighty, anyone else love scavenger hunts? Stop talking about turnips, Flim...I'm hungry enough already.". She had missed dinner as a particularly handsome specimen of butterfly had caught her attention, and she followed it without realizing dinner time had passed while she did so.

A towheaded fellow in sturdy brown overalls, red shirt worn underneath, standing 3'8" barefooted, Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood took in with eye, ear and nose the assembled crowd, then attended closely to Mayor Bumbleluck's layout of the rules.

He glanced here and there to see where Blossom Bumbleluck might be, contriving to avoid her if possible. She never did seem to get over the ants which invaded as she and Laddy Browntoes Pipeleaf were just starting to enjoy their picnic lunch a few months back. He would have been fine had there not been a snitch in his family who thought it a fine thing to gloat at what his older brother had done to the 'innocent victims' - ha! as if Blossom were by any means innocent. Well, of some things, sure, but he'd seen her diminish others plenty of times, and thought that the comeuppance was... oh, enough of that. Focus, man!

Tolman and Theadric showed themselves well. Murphy smiled at Amaryllis Greenbottle, recalling the words of praise she offered when he brought her the jar of pollen from hundreds of St. John's Wort flowers to her for some concoction she wanted to fashion.

"Hey, Shel!" Murphy said to the beautiful sorceress. "Yep, love scavenger hunts. When we win, especially."

He laughed at the team name suggested. "Hin Billy, That'd be a great team name if you want to play solo!" Thinking for a moment, he said, "How about 'Rummage Rats' or 'Clue Crackers'?"

Just then he sees the fellow from Angel Springs. "Hey, Eral! Over here. You're gonna be on our team, right? We've gotta come up with a team name. What about 'Domi-nators'?" he jested lightly.

Amidst the conversation as they wait their turn in line, he gauges what he can of the other teams, and looks around for their other friends.

He's clad in his usual black leather armour, yellowy cloak and non-existant boots, with his two swords hanging from his belt. The emblems of Domi adorning his brooch and pommel seem especially well polished this evening; no doubt in preparation for the event.

"As for our team name..." Odo gives a quick, irritated glance to Flim before continuing, "Domi-nators sounds fine. And I'd rather not take a name after vermin unless it were 'Rat Stompers' or such, though I suppose Clue Crackers would be fine as well."

"Howdy, Murphy," Shel says with a big grin as she gives him a hug, " what's been going on? Now you are right, we do need a name, not one like the 'Hin Billy' over there wants either! I doubt she even knows who you are, Flim. It might be better to proclaim your love after we've won an event, you know." she playfully jostles Flim with her elbow after her jab at him and his unrequited love.

"Now about that name....any other suggestions?"

"Hin Billy! Can I join your team? I want to be close to the music you know?

Alouryn quickly looks around making a note of the other team members,
"I hope everyone is ok if I join this team? I'll do my best to help out, I promise! I overheard you trying to pick a team name. It really doesn't matter to me, but I like Flower Pickers." Alouryn giggles at her own pun.

"Well rounded team? Odo, I think this one is having fun at your expense!" She couldn't resist a shot at the more rotund member of the grouping.

Shel rolls her eyes at the religion based names. "Now, we should respect every faith on this team, so all will feel welcome. I vote against naming the squad for any particular icon. We can venerate all of them here. We don't want to pick just one and tick another one off, do we? How's about something simple? We could call ourselves the Third Dinner Club, to have some fun with the judges, if that's not too risqué for everyone."

As Hazel addresses the tough looking girl wearing the red armband, he actually has an idea about who they are, at least by reputation anyways. It is confirmed as the girl looks at him like he must be crazy and says, "We are the BadApples." I am glad you are "participating" in the games, because we are going to winning them."

He has much less success meeeting and talking to any of the Second dinner club, as every time he gets within a few feet of one of them and begins to hail them somethin interferes and he finds himself15-20 feet away from them.

Happy that no contestant is getting near the judges, so his team won't be in disadvantage, he looks for Murphy's head poking over the crowd to get back with the rest of the team.

"What now, fellows?"

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood (Kim)  d20+11=24 ;
Tuesday July 2nd, 2013 2:06:20 AM

Murphy Bumblebee receives a nice hug from his friend Shel. "Oh, all kinds of things have been going on," he says as they separate. "Swimmin', seeing who all has come this year, catching up with some cousins from hovel..."

Just as it looks like he is ready to go on, his eye is caught. "Well, if it isn't Miss Buttercup Bumblebottom? Good to see you, Alouryn. Yep, we were hoping you'd be on our team."

This reminds him of something, and he says, "Hey, I'm gonna have some great venison pie for everyone later." Then he pulls out of his large bag a smaller one. From it issue candies which look like canes, very sweet - he calls them Squinky canes. "I got four of 'em. Anyone here like sweets? Limit one to a customer - on my team." He passes those out to whoever wants one. "But, if you take it, you gotta eat it today." He offers them first to the ladies, Alouryn and Shel, then hands one to Odo, leaving only one remaining. If Alouryn, Shel and Odo want to pass them on to another person on the team, that's fine with Murphy.

He sees Hazel's big hound Faoil sitting nearby. He pulls something else from his bag - a round loaf it looks like. He carefully tears open a corner. "Ha! I was right." The tall halfling takes off the top, scrapes bits of meat and such from the inside top to place in the bottom, then sets the mostly meaty remains of the last of his bread surprises before the animal. "Leftovers, but still good. Go ahead and eat it, if you're hungry." He scratches the waiting dog behind the ears - remembering the first time he tried it that Faoil had looked to Hazel to see if it was all right for this stranger to do such a thing. That was some time ago, and now they know each other pretty well.

Just about then, Hazel returns to the group. "Hope you don't mind, Haze - had a bit of meat left over from the last bread surprise, gave it to Faoil."

Murphy sets his mind to further puzzling out a name for their team as it begins to form.

"Very well, someone objects to mentioning someone we worship, lest others be jealous that their favorite immortal was not chosen. So, much as Odo, Eral and I like 'Domi-nators', and 'Flower Pickers' sounds sweet," he acknowledges with a nod to Alouryn, "And Shel thinks it might be a good idea to pander to the judges with 'Third Dinner Club,'" as he gives her a wink, "let's see what else we might consider."

He comes up with the following suggestions, seeing what his friends and companions might favor, or otherwise.
Breakfast Of The Unfinished Howdy
Tactical Turnips
Rutabaga Cornucopia
Harvest Drums
The Crescent Vagabonds
The Turnipseed Scimitars
Pipesmoke Power
Humble's Sword
Racing Turnip Cart
Turnip of the Two Moons
The Culverwood Crescents
Bright Bumpkins
Uncertain Turnip of the Keen Contenders
"Well, sweet gleanin's, Hin Billy, you got my mind thinking overmuch about turnips!" Murphy pretends to pout. Then he adds with a shrug, "But my two favorites are The Culverwood Crescents and Humble's Sword. How 'bout the rest of you?"

Not concerned in the least bit as to who the mayor was implicating Zylo decides to introduce himself to his potential team.

"Well, I'm actually quite willing to support someone's seemingly hopeless chase for love. MulberryGoOutWithMe is grand in my opinion. That is of course, if my opinion is welcome. Names Zylo Runefaust and I would love to be the newest edition to your team."

Flimsipold couldn't help but grin at the approach of the well too charismatic cleric. "If you've brought your dancin', Billy's got the.. prancing? No. No; if you've brought your boogie, Billy's got the woogie!" Content with this rhyme of his, Flimsipold picked out a candy cane from Murphy. "Ah, sweet tooth - Tootsie! I will henceforth reffer to my Mullbery as my Tootsie!"

He bit down on the candy cane, only frowning upon realizing that he could have easily used that as a gift, then gasping loudly at Shel's reproach, pertaining to miss DrinkWater never having heard of him. "Ey awl heald bout me, a's fo'sho. He remarked, still biting on the candy cane, but then removing it from his lips just to cement further the foundation of this claim. "After all, I must be the only capable musician in Humble's Ford!" Flimsipold made to grab his mandolin for a demonstration, but gave up on that upon realizing that he had a candy cane waiting to be eaten.

"Don't think that's too good a name, ey Shel. It's funny and that, but..." and he took on his slightly less pitched, more masculine voice for this "I am a musician, and I have to constantly fend off imposters and impersonators - why, there's Hin Billy wannabes all over this valley for sure." There probably weren't. "We just can't do that to the Third Dinner Club on account of there professional conduct." For a guy not doing so well in his career, Hin Billy sure knows a lot about this stuff.

"I dunno, Murphy.. suppose Tactical Turnips sounds kinda good, either that or I'm hungry. Let's go for Humble's sword with a twist! Yrreblum's Sword!" He grinned widely, biting on the cane momentarily just to clap in that overly loud fashion. "Yes, it's an old legend what says Yrreblum's sword was the... sharpest... sword in.. all the valley! We'll carve through other contestants as easily as Yrreblum's sword cut through turnips!"

Groups slowly proceed to the registration desk as they wait their turn to make their team's presance known. Currently at the head of the line are a group of well dressed halflings registering their team. It is obvious from their appearance that they are from Angel Springs (the affluent town of the Crescent Valley). As they clear out of the way, the BadApples send a representative to the desk. This individual stands out from the others wearing the red armbands. She is dressed in an ivory colored, lace trimmed dress. It is obvious to Alouryn that she is a cleric of Flower. Standing next to the young cleric is a large, oafish-looking halfling who is facing towards the crowd (away from the desk). Murphy's perceptiveness is greeted with his obvious mouth-breathing as he buries a dirty, index finger far up his nose.

The leader of the BadApples smiles as you try to agree on a team name. Its obvious that she is not intimidated or impressed with any of the other teams. She notices Murphy scouting the crowd. When his eyes fall on the cleric and large halfling next to her, she quickly comments,"My name's Candy by the way. That's my sister, Crystal and my right-hand man, Odo. You'd best stay away from her if ya know what's good for you."

Crystal and Odo step away from the desk and fall in line behind Candy and the rest of the BadApple gang. Candy gives a devilish grin and blows a kiss to the group.

"We'll catch up with you later. Count on it."

As the BadApples vacate the area, Crystal shoots Alouryn a smile and a nod as she walks away. Her gesture is clearly friendly in nature.

Roscoe Hornblower beckons you to the table. As you approach, he greets you with a smile,"I'll need yur names and team name so I can getcha registered for the games."

She holds up the treasured candy cane, "Here you take mine, as a thank you for dancing with me the other night." Alouryn smiles brightly as she hands the candy over to Hazel. "And you brought Faoil too." She waits patiently for the dog to finish eating before giving him a friendly petting.
"That other team has a Devotee too, they must be a nice bunch. I sure wish all of the teams could work together so everyone could win."
Alouryn seems overly cheerful.
"About the team name. I'll go along with anything you guys choose, I'm just happy to be able to help you out, but we have to decide soon or we won't be able to sign up in time..."

When the morsel is put before him he gives Murphy a couple slobbering tongue licks before eating the bread and meat quickly, in a couple bites.

Hazel, after getting the candy, thanks Alouryn for it.

"Thank you very much, Alouryn! You are always very kind."

He proceeds to break the candy in several small pieces, throws one to Faoil (who grabs it from the air without problem) and offer other to Alouryn. Then he proceeds to offer the rest to the other people in the team, starting with the new members, and keeping the last one for himself.

"I think Alouryn has a point... why swords?"

Responding to the BadApples' leader, Candy, the young druid says, "Glad to meet you, Candy. Saw you a bit at last year's event - you all are pretty good. Glad to meet you, Crystal, and you, too, Odo. My name is Murphy. Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood. Our family has a shop out your way in Angel Springs. Well, good luck, and good playin'!" he concludes.

Noticing another potential teammate, Murphy welcomes him. "Edric, is it? Great. I think we are getting close to full for this team, but there should be room for you."

Murphy speaks with Roscoe Hornblower at the registration table. "Greetings, Mister Hornblower! Yes, we just about have our team name agreed on. You know me - I'm Murphy. Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood. Just a moment, we'll have the team name."

"Got the canes at a yuletide party, Shel," he tells her, then listens to his friends' discussion.

After that, he turns around. "Sorry for the delay, sir. Our team is Humble's Swords." And he gives the name of each team member - though Edric will have to provide his family name to the registrar.

"Humble's Swords...Huh...That's a decent name! I like it. Good luck to ya all. Make sure you come back here in the mornin' for the first game. Good luck." With that he smiles and nods. "Next!"

As fans and competitors slowly start to vacate the pavilion, Mulberry Drinkwater, the Humble's Ford Beauty Queen, steps up to the podium. She is surrounded by a large pink dress which seems to take up half of the stage. She pushes her long, brown, curly hair from in from of her face and yells out an announcement.

"Hey everybody, there's gonna be some parties tonight at the Belly Buster, and the Dancing Pig! Attend whichever you like, but both parties will be equally entertaining! Hope to see you all there!"

The tent erupts in conversations regarding which party to attend. The citizens of Cresant Valley head out and on to the dirt paths of Humble's Ford in search of a night filled with fun and fellowship.

Flimsipold had been turning to people left and right, hushing them down and not very politely telling them to shut up upon Mulberry Drinkwater's all too extravagant approach to the stage. "Isn't she somethin' else, ey?" He murmured, to no one in particular. "Right. We have to find out which party she will be attending. Since y'all want to dance, and since I'm the best musician around, y'all oughta come to, be my winghins!" Flimsipold clapped again, then set off to pester strangers with the question "Do you know which party miss Drinkwater will be attending?"

An elderly lady overhears Flimsipold polling halflings around him for information. She crinkles her already wrinkled face and blurts out, "Why in the Red Hills would you care? What's so great about her any which ways? She thinks she's so special with her fluffy dress and her...her...her hair! Knowing her she'll prob'bly make her way to both parties. Couldn't spend a minute without anyone not seein' her!"

With that the haggard, old crone stomps away in a huff.

Alouryn finishes the piece of candy she graciously accepted back from Hazel.

"Well Hazel, I'm a Pits through and through. The Dancing Pig has the best dance floor so that's where I wish to go. I just hope Hin Billy goes there as well, it wouldn't be the same with out his music! I'd go ask Mulberry to join us there but she doesn't like me much."

Alouyn turns to Flimsipold with a big smile:
(Diplomacy of 19)
"You know Hin Billy, I'm guessing if you were to be playing at either bar Mulberry would show up just to hear you play. You might as well play at the Dancing Pig where there's more room for people to dance and enjoy your music. I'm sure Mulberry would come dance there if you played a song about her."

Alouryn does a simple twirl to exemplify her words.
(Perform: dance of 13)

She then turns to the group with a surprised expression:

"Oh, and we need armbands too, I have extra teal dancer's ribbon at home. I could cut some up to make arm bands if everyone is OK with wearing teal?"

"Thank you. We'll be back in the morning, sir!" Murphy answers Roscoe Hornblower. He notes with a smile Flimsipold's passion for all things Mulberry. He raises his eyebrows a bit at Hin Billy's claim to be the best musician around, as several of his family members are musicians, and some make instruments, and there are a few others in town who have varying amounts of musical talent, but does not gainsay him. Flim is good and lively, but every musician can gain from a bit of seasoning. And, he supposes, self-confidence in a performer is an asset. He likes his songs.

He listens to the elderly lady talking with the bard. He knows most people in town, so looks to see if he does know her. If not, he marks her countenance in his mind so as to remember.

Murphy concurs with Alourn's ribbons recommendation. "How I agree - teal has appeal."

"Well, many of you know the tradition in town - one frequents one place or the other, and to try to be a regular at both is deemed disloyal. That one somewhat puzzles, but," he concludes the sentence with a 'what-are-you-going-to-do?' shrug. "However, with so many from outside the Ford here for the games, perhaps that rule may be relaxed. I love the food at the Buster, and I know it fairly well. The Pig is ever so lively, though."

"Odo - you'll have to tell us the story sometime of your winning of the, of - Point? Looks sharp!"

"So, I'll go with Shel and Eral to the Belly Buster," he says, slapping the side of his stomach, "and anyone else who wants to come with us. Hazel, Alourn, Hin Billy, Zylo, and Odo will hit the Dancing Pig. How about you, Edric? You want to come with us to the more sedate place with tastier food? You can switch later if you want. By the way, did you tell Roscoe your name is Lowbrook? I think there's a family of Lowbrooks in Hovel. Is that where you're from? The militia over there has some good folks. Did you spend any time training with 'em? If that's where you're from, of course."

He listens to whatever Edric has to say. Quick Tour? Before they break up, the bumblebee keeper suggests they attend to the Mayor's words. "He said, 'Newcomers, get to know the townsfolk, as some of them may or may not want to help you during the games. Get to know Humble's Ford itself, make yourself familiar with where things are. Plan ahead as best as you can for the games.'" He adds, "If you all would like a real quick introduction to the place, and can keep up with me, I can take who wants to on a quick tour, let you know who lives where, where different stores and merchants and craftsmen are, and the like, so that when you meet people tonight you may have a better feel for some local folks. If you want, come with me, and we will do that. If you want to go straight to the parties, that's fine, too. A quick look around tonight, though, might help us as we get started tomorrow." [If any want to come with Murphy on a whirlwind tour, then read through the Woldipedia page describing Humble's Ford and some of its key people. Murphy thinks his own family is key, too. His father, with help from several of his children, crafts both musical instruments and toys, and the occasional smoking pipe or crafted convenience - some sold from his workshop, and many carted over to Angel Springs for sale at the family shop there.]

Murphy adds one last question before the group splits. "Should we have someone run back and forth between the places to let each other know what's going on?"

"You make a compelling argument, Alouryn but if Tootsie ain't there I'll make my way to the Buster. And teal is fine, I'm sure I heard someone say it's Mulberry's favorite color... if it isn't, maybe we can convince her she's colorblind." Flimsipold stuffed what little remained of the candy into his mouth and crunched it between his teeth, having a hilariously hard time swallowing the hard treat. He coughed a few times, though he was visibly in agony as his face turned red and eyes began to tear up. "Aghem!" Flimsipold made for his mandolin, fiddling his nimble fingers around its strings in an all too specific and rapid pace.

"Now, gathe'round fellers 'cause I gots me a tale
'Bout way-a down yonder'n there Crescent Vale;
Well, there's a lil' old town they call Humble's Ford,
That's home to hins of all kins, but when they-get-bored
They throw a big olde fancy 'bout some-or-nother;
Competition gets heated, let me tell ya, brother!

Yeah, it's an easy rhyme, but don't pay it no mind,
We're gonn' wipe the floor, and then dunk some scrubs,
'Cause you wouldn't wanna serve BadApples at a dinner club!
"

Content with this performance of his, and hoping he managed to turn a few heads, Flimspold then stretched out his arms and took off his straw hat to reveal his gingerish hair, and all too freckled composure. "I oughta get ready for tonight -" as if struck by a realization, he then clapped again "can I borrow me some of that fancy perfume from any of y'all? Gotta make sure I don't dirty up Mulberry's air, y'know?"

"Well Hazel, I am hungry now so I will gladly join you for supper, but don't feel like you have to pay. The food may not be as good at the Pig, but it's great fuel for dancing and the drinks are divine." She holds up her silver holy symbol to add to her statement.

Alouryn goes with the Dancing Pig group to the bar pointing out the sights to Hazel and Zylo (unless Zylo chooses to take Murphy's tour). As per Woldian rules, you also get "X" x10 experience points, where "X" is your current level at the time that hero point is awarded. So 10xp.

Make sure you track this hero point and experience on your character sheet and also label the event for which it was awarded.

While listening to his new companions banter back and forth he is pleased that his trip back to Humble's Ford for the first time in over a decade will most definitely not be a boring one. Perhaps also the joy that the group is overflowing with will distract him from what the trip back to Humble really means.

Zylo listens and watches Alouryn dance about while showing off the town, "Man, how the town has changed since last I've been here last" he thinks to himself. Zylo has always been a quiet person and remains quiet and observing the whole way to the Dancing Pig. "Oh, Hin Billy, you done riled ol' Myrtle Bolgar about Mulberry. If you want to make it up to her some time, bring her some scraps from the butcher to feed her cats."

He enjoys the song, and claps along, joining Hazel in the 'Swords! Swords! Swords!' cheer at the end.

Murphy also lets people know, if they need a place to stash their extra gear, they can drop it at his family home where 'it should be pretty safe.'

He takes Hazel, Edric, and also any others who want to go with him on a quick town tour (pointing out hiding places here and there to Shel if she is with them); drops off at his place anything the out-of-towners would like to be kept safe; makes sure that Hazel finds the Dancing Pig, then attends the developing festivities at the Belly Buster with Shel and Eral and Edric.

"Well, Shel, I don't know that scrumptious food is necessarily decadent. I mean, an apple pie that mixes sweetness and tartness, and just the right amount of cinnamon and nutmeg, splashed with fresh cream and a dabble of honey - decadent? Oh, no, not decadent. It is rather... blessed! Since it blesses my tongue, and makes my tummy happy."

And to Edric, he replies, "Sure there are a lot of you there, to my remembrance. I visit my Aunt Marigold there, and my cousins Ellis and Penelope, and their daughter Clara, and... well, I've got a bunch of friends and acquaintances there'bouts." Murphy appears to be trying to recall something else he was going to add, but it looks to have escaped him. He does say, though, "Yea, we've got some among the Leafwins, and some among the Pipewoods both who've put their hand to doing a bit of adventuring. I've heard some corkers from some of 'em!" He also asks Edric, "Did you train long with the militia over there? Any favorite parts to the training they gave you?"

As they go into the Belly Buster, Murphy takes in the scene, and sees if any of his three favorite tables have any space left at them, saying hello to some of his friends there, introducing his teammates around where it seems appropriate. He looks to see if other teams have shown up there.

While walking along Alouryn, Hazel looks discreetly at her and feels a crawling in his skin. He, despised by his father, shunned by her mother, used to live mostly alone in the forest, was having some very strong feelings for that girl.

But how can it work?

She was a fine and delicate girl, talking about not harming anyone, while he lived in the forest, looking how all nature is red, in tooth and claw, and everything has to hunt to eat. Even flowers chase the sun, he thought.

How, then, can they be together. How someone like him can charm a girl like her?

His hand moved towards her. His arm wanting to hold her delicate and soft hand. Let her know how he felt, with a gentle caress.

Maybe he was not able to charm her. But he can keep her safe.

His hand withdraw, before touching hers.

At noticing Hin Billy had talked to him, Hazel face got red, and he apologized:

"Please excuse me, Hin Billy, I was distracted. What did you just said?"

DM David
Saturday July 6th, 2013 5:47:05 AM

Murphy, Shel, Edric and Eral head to the Belly Buster. As you approach, you see a well-dressed man (hafling of course) waiting at the door.

"Welcome to the Belly Buster! You have made a wise decision coming here for the night's festivities. We have the best food and ale that can be found in all of the Crescent! Also, we'll be having a quartet playing songs by request. I kindly ask that you'd please leave your weapons at the door. I won't let anything happen to them."

He gestures to a near-empty weapon rack and smiles.

Those with concealed weapons can sneak them through. He isn't patting anyone down.

As you enter the Belly Buster, you notice that it has been "dressed up" for the occasion. Decorative streamers of a multitude of colors, tastefully adorn the walls. Each table has a royal blue tablecloth with a candle centerpiece which softly glows. Groups of party goers occupy all of the tables. You notice that one of the tables is occupied by the Angel Falls team. They nod as you make eye contact with them.

One lone member of the BadApple Gang sits at the large, oak bar amongst other patrons. This member is mostly hidden in a forest green cloak. He glances up as you enter and then goes back to drinking his ale. You don't recall seeing him at the pavilion.

The band is located just off of the bar in the corner of the establishment. It consists of a mandolin, pan pipes, flute, and piano player. They are currently playing a lively tune which you've never heard before.

As you scan around to find a place to sit, and elderly man stands up at a table and waves to you. You recognize him as Eldon TossCobble, the town's handyman. Seated next to him is his wife Cora.

"Come over here haflings! We've got plenty of room for all of ya'."

Hazel, Faiol, Alourn, Hin Billy, Zylo, and Odo head to the Dancing Pig. You can hear loud music and cheering on the way there. A black-bearded man stands at the entrance of the Dancing Pig. He takes a sip from his mug before greeting you.

"Welcome to the Dancing Pig, the greatest pub in all the land. I need y'all to check yer weapons here before headin' in."

As he notices Faiol, he frowns. "The mutt's gotta stay out. This ain't a stable ya know. You can tie him up over there if ya like. I got nothin' against dogs, but rules 'r rules. I'll get him some food and water." He directs Hazel to a tree about 20' from the bar. It is clear that he is not in the mood for a compromise.

As Alourn approaches, the man gasps and his eyes widen. "Hello milady. You're the second cleric of Flower here tonight." He moves in closer and lowers his voice. "Don't tell the other one, but yer the prettier of the two. If there is anything I can do fer ya, let me know." He says nothing to Alourn about her whip. He'd probably let her by with a two-handed sword in her hands.

As you enter the Dancing Pig, the first thing you notice is the dance floor. The entire center of the pub is filled with halflings dancing about. The tables (most of them unoccupied) have been pushed towards the walls to expand the dance floor.

The music is provided by a man singing, a piano player, and a fiddler. They are currently playing a fun and lively drinking song which is laden with some language and innuendos not appropriate for kiddies or the faint of heart.

Towards the back of the pub you see Candy, Crystal, Odo, and two other members of the BadApple Gang. They haven't noticed your entrance yet, most likely due to the noise and commotion of the dancers.

Murphy nods sympathetically to Edric as he describes the Hovel militia experience as dull. "I heard they had some sort of obstacle course there, which sounds like it might raise a bit of interest at times, but, yeah, drill-drill-drill might get old after a while."

He waves to the Angel Springs folks. "You chose a good spot to eat, an' that's for certain!" He notes the green-clad BadApple. Does Murphy recognize him? Druid? Ranger? Most of the BadApples are local.

Pleased to be invited to a table, Murphy agrees with Shel. "Mister and Missus TossCobble! How fare you lovebugs?" He seats himself next to Eldon, and invites Edric and Eral to sit nearby. "This here's Edric. Edric Lowbrook, out from Hovel - we were just talking about the militia training there. Oh, Edric, this is Mister Eldon TossCobble, who was champion of the games more'n once some time back, and his fantastic wife, Missus Cora TossCobble."

He also introduces one of the group's new members. "This is Eral Sunstrider, out from Angel Springs. Actually, I can tell you serve Domi, but, maybe you can tell us some of your story."

There is no need to introduce ebullient Shel - she's a local. But he does ask her, "Are you therefore prophesying that some day your daughter will play the mandolin with skill?"

He orders chicken prepared in the Red Hills style, with a good sprinkling of pepper and paprika, and a mug of scrumpy.

"Oh, Mister TossCobble - my mother was right well pleased with the way you got our well pump working again a couple o' weeks back. She fretted about having to bother our neighbors for a few days to use their well to fill our pails." Murphy turns to Cora. "We all know he did well in finding you, good woman, but it looks like things didn't turn out too bad for you, either."

DM David: Surprisingly, you don't recognize the man. You're not getting a Druid vibe from him. Maybe ranger. Maybe something else.

"Down boy! This fine lad doesn't means it like that. Right mister?"

Hazel gets his face near the dorrman's, and for a second bares his own teeth and lets out a menacing growl himself.

"Faoil, wait for me there, in the tree!" - he points towards the tree, smiles, and backs away from the doorman.

"I would be very grateful to you if you can fetch him some water and something to eat, good man." - While talking he slips a SP to the doorman, and shows him a wide friendly smile. - "Just try to be nice to him, he doesn't like to be called "Mutt", nor sleep in stables."

He leaves his Sling Staff at the door, and walks inside, escorting Aluoryn (and the rest of her companions, of course ;) ).

He turns towards her, and says:

"Maybe you can give me the pleasure of the first dance?'

She replies to Hazel, "I would be delighted to have the first dance with you Hazel. Let's wait for a slower song, it's been a long day." Alouryn is feeling a bit weak just now from all of the excitement and lets Hazel lead her through the song when the music slows down. (Perform dance 5). After the song ends, "I'm sorry friend I'm usually better at dancing than that, perhaps we should eat before trying again?"
When they sit down Alouryn tells Hazel, and the others who are interested, about her being sick as a child, meeting Sarabella LoveSong and deciding to become a cleric of Flower. "I still get a bit woozy once in a while." she explains.

This is not a full-on stare at all, and his eye will not be on Mr. Green full time - but he maintains an awareness of him as the group with the TossCobbles talks, eats, drinks, and interacts.

To a lesser extent he will occasionally mark what the Angel Springs group is about.

At the Belly Buster...

Murphy, Shel, Edric and Eral accept Eldon's invitation and join he and his lovely wife, Cora at their table. Cora blushes at Eral's complement and gives the cleric of Domi a kiss on the cheek.

Eldon replies to Murphy and Shel,"Cora and I are doing just fine. I love as much as the first day I met her.' He smiles and the two share a brief moment as if they are lost in each other's, seemingly ageless eyes. His attention returns to you,"I used to play in the games when I was your age. My team was called the 'Bucking Goats'. We were a bit...well... drunk when we picked a team name at the registration table. Although everyone laughed at our silly name, they stopped when they watched us march to victory! My best advice to winning the games is to count on each member of the team. With a random bunch of halflings like yourselves, there's bound to be someone best for each job."

Eldon takes on a sullen affect and sighs, "Unfortunately, I'm going to miss this year's games. I'm going to be leading a supply caravan down the old trade route." His face lights up again. "At least Cora will be here to root you on to victory! By the way, Cora and I would be honored to pay your way tonight. Get whatever you like!"

With that, orders are made and a seemingly endless amount of some of the best food that the Ford has to offer fills the table. The group from Angel Springs celebrates on their own. They show no signs of ruining your night.

The hooded member of the BadApples meets Murphy's stare with a shake of his head and a smile. He smacks the empty spot next him at the bar and motions for Murphy to come and join him.

At the Dancing Pig...

The doorman gets a waitress' attention and has her get Faiol some food and water. "I'll watch'm friend. Got two at home m'self." Once Hazel is sure his canine is well taken care of, Alourn, Hin Billy, Zylo, Odo, and he enter the Dancing Pig.

Many of Humble's Swords carefully eye the "barrel of BadApples" at the bar. None are initially thrilled to see them here.

Possibly to break the tension of the BadApple situation, or maybe to make a move, Hazel asks Alourn for the first dance of the night. Although the typically graceful cleric's moves are not up to her standards, they work just fine for Hazel. Once the song ends, the two lead the others to a table.

Hin Billy recognizes the band as the "Peppered Peaches". They are a popular band in the Ford. The lead singer spots the bard and rushes over to him. "It's great t' see ya Hin! Would ya mind joining us in a song? We'd love to hear ya play ur mandolin."

With that, Odo orders for the "Swords" and watches for trouble in the meantime (Why so many perception checks? Do you really think the DM would do something to you at a party?). Ale and food are heaped on to the table and the group begins partaking in the "Pig's" many delights.

For some unknown reason, the absolutely fearless Hazel approaches the BadApples and asks Belba to dance.

The red-haired beauty laughs at the proposal. "Why would I ever want to dance with you? I'll tell you what. Die and maybe I'll dance on your corpse!"

The nearly dwarf-sized Odo laughs as ale sprays out of his maw,"She said 'dancing on yer corpse!'" You wonder if his small brain could even comprehend the meaning, or if he was just repeating words that sounded funny to him.

Candy BadApple stands up and approaches Hazel. She eyes the ranger and gives a little wink and grin. "I'll dance with ya. What's your name, runt?' She offers her hand to Hazel.

Crystal scans the room and finds the rest of the Swords. She smiles and waves to you. Without saying a word to any of the BadApple Gang, she stands up and heads to your table. Odo quickly stands up and follows, making it halfway through the pub and stopping. His eyes are fixed on all things around the cleric.

Crystal nods to Alourn and then looks to the other occupants of the table. "Will any of you fine gentleman ask me to dance?"

Pulling off his hand he grabs a mug and drinks a little. He thinks himself very "discreet" in the way he touched her, as he feels his heart racing inside his chest at his "boldness".

Remember me to buy a drink for Hin Billy, he sure saved my hide. I felt like I was going to get mauled by a mother bear, and I wouldn't be able to fight back." - He smiles and get up, screaming towards Hin Billy - "MASTER! AT YOUR HEALTH!" - and makes the exaggerated movements of toasting with him.

He sits down again, and starts talking to Alouryn.

"What do you think of this games?"

After the ordeal with Candy, Zylo returns to the table and proceeds to drink profusely. As he does he continues to grumble about the nights events and the obvious lack of typical tavern festivities. He eventually stops grumbling and sits with his chin in his hand and doses off at the table listening to the masterful playing of Hin Billy.

With the food gone, and the festivities closing in the Belly Buster, Shel wonders about the rest of the evening. "Well, I feel like I should probably go to bed and get a good rest, but that would be terribly boring. Perhaps we could take a quick dash over to the Pig to check in on the others, and see if Hin Billy has been able to woo Ms. Mulberry. I know he's not going to have any luck, but it should be entertaining watching him put forth the effort."

Flimsipold raised his own drink to Hazel in turn, "And to you, my friend!" he took an intent chug, bottom right up and, having rose from his seat he expertly swung the mandolin over and to his back. As he stepped down to the dance floor, he turned to the lead of the Peppered Peaches, "Can y'all play some real swingy-type.. but y'know lovin' kind, all slow and such? Oh! And make it a long one!" He grinned, content with this very specific request he deemed well formulated.

Flimsipold then walked up to the others, joining them at the table, his hand fell almost fatherly upon Hazel's shoulder; "And for you, a piece of bardly advice" and Flimsipold's gaze was one to ensure that this was no laughing matter, "Don't go letting no dame twist your head, tell you how to live ya life, yeah?". He concluded this with another one of his uncalled for claps. "Right, then! Can y'all watch over my mandolin while I try and get a dance out my dear lil' miss Mulberry?" He beamed with a wide smile, then pulling up an empty chair and abandoning his mandolin upon it.

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood (Kim) [at Belly Buster]

Murphy, somewhat abashed at incorrectly suspecting Lotho of subterfuge, bid him farewell, then joins his group back at the table. "Perhaps I was a bit, uh, too concerned about the reputation of that, uh, team. Maybe Lotho's just a nice guy." His ears are noticeably reddened for the moment.

As members of the group seem to want to move on, Murphy takes a last bite of his food and washes it down with the tail end of his scrumpy.

"Thank you for your hospitality, Mister and Missus TossCobble. Good journey to you, sir, and we look forward to seeing you on the morrow, good lady!" He shakes Eldon's hand, and gives a salute to Cora, our official cheerleader.

He swings by the Angel Springs table. "Good luck, you all. See you in the mornin'!"

Murphy then retrieves his dagger, and joins Shel, Edric and Eral as they wend their way to the Dancing Pig. He keeps his eyes out to see who else is out on the streets at this time.

As they walk, he asks, "I got so focused on mister green cloak that I did not find out anything, really, about the Angel Springs team. Were any of you able to pick up anything about them?"

When they arrive at the Pig, he checks both his daggers, and heads on in.

"I didn't find out anything noteworthy about them either," Edric replies to Murphy.

Alouryn feels overly comfortable with Hazel's hand on hers. "I've never been in the games before actually. I was always weaker than the other kids growing up after being sick and all. Now that I'm a Devotee of Flower though I really feel like I have something to contribute you know?" Alouryn gets a little lost in Hazel's eyes and she almost forgets why she came here. " Please excuse me for a bit but I should really test my legs again!" Alouryn tries dancing again but quits after one song. (Perform dance 8). She returns to the table and appologizes to the group. "I really wanted to show you all a good time but I'm just not up to it tonight." She blushes slightly from embaressment then leaves to cut up the arm bands for tomorrow.

When Murphy arrives he greets him, accompany him inside the Pig Buster, and tells him about the Bad Apples and Odo dancing mishaps and acrobatics.

Thursday July 11th, 2013 10:17:08 AM

The Angel Springs team nods as the group leaves the Belly Buster with Eldon and Cora. The happy couple wish you luck and head home.

As Murphy, Shel, Edric and Eral head to the Dancing Pig, they meet up with the rest of the Swords. Hin Billy does his best to enchant Mulberry. Unfortunately, even the silver-tongued bard can't break her away from her adoring fans for a dance. Stories are told regarding both encounters with the BadApples. All decide that it is about time to sleep in anticipation for tomorrow's games.

As the Humble's Swords head out of the Dancing Pig, you see a disheveled, elderly man hurriedly approach. His eyes dart around in a paranoid manner as if he has seen a ghost. You don't recognize the hafling, but it is clear by his ungroomed appearance and the rough condition of his backpack and clothes that he is a vagabond.

"Don't tell everyone boyo, I din't wan'ta make a scene of it, but the Biguns are comin' strong from the Red Hills... Possibly the Really Biguns too... Word has it that they're comin' to raid the town again... Group'a fine fellers like yourselves might wan'ta check it out. "

He almost cowers as is they were right behind him. His body is in constant, jittery motion.

"You fellers are a bit too young ta' remember, but before those towers were built, the Biguns raided and nearly wiped out evera' halfling in the Valley. The towers are failin' us. Theyr' gettin' through."

Shel also has her doubts about the veracity of this vagabond's tale. This could be a trick by one of the other teams to make us fatigued for the morning, Shel thinks as she waits for the others reactions. "What big'uns are you speaking of, like human and elf sized big'uns, or even bigger than that?"

Flimsipold promptly picked up his mandolin and recuperated his longsword upon being rejected by Mulberry Drinkwater. Truly a pathetic sight this, so did poor old Flimsipold drag his feet over the ground from which his saddened gaze could and would not rise. Like a dog out in the rain, so did the gingerish feller walk out, straw hat way lower than usual. He sniffled, "Jus' got some lil' bugger in me eye.." followed by a much lower "And a dagger in my heart.".

Not even upon the beggar's arrival, nor even his plea did he gather his composure and try to look like less of a mess. Still, suspicious enough of this encounter, he couldn't help but ask between plenty of barely contained sobs, "[i]If y'ain't moving your mouth for nothing, y'oughta tell the there mayor. He'll mobilize us right quick."

Sense Motive - 18.

Thursday July 11th, 2013 6:57:21 PM

Hin Billy and Hazel are pretty confident that the man believes what he is saying to be true, but also that he is clearly not in his right mind. They definitely smell a rat.

Odo, on the other hand, is convinced that the man is telling the truth and that a raid could be on the way. The hafling might buy a bridge from the man if offered.

The question is, will the Swords seek vengeance this night or during the games in the morning.

Hazel plans to quickly go towards the towers, but with an eye open looking for the Bad Apples "laughing" of them.

If he sees the Bad Apples, he will ask them to go defend the town with him. Let's see if they fall for their own trick!

Then he will confirm if the village is under attack or not, and quickly return to warn the people or go to sleep.

"You know, don't you, that the giants did NOT nearly wipe out every halfling in the Valley. Because We Fought Back. Some of our ancestors fought back - some armed only with frying pans and slingshots.

"And, because we did get help from the towers. Don't you know the song, The Testing of the Towers? You know that one, doncha, Flimsipold? If you do, play with me, and we'll sing together. If you don't, well, I'm not so fine a singer as some in my family, but can usually carry a tune... though not too far."

He clears his throut, then sings, passably (because this song is one he has sung many times with his family, +1 circumstantial, +1 cha, DC 11, but perhaps Hin Billy will greatly improve upon it):
In Crescent Vale they tell the tale
Of when the green grass grew
With twisted cords it wrapped and scored
The big'uns coming through

Past tall stone sentinels they fought
But deep deep magic flew
And pierced their limbs and made them doubt
The wisdom of Chief Gniew

Then hied the slingers came the knives
A-flying through the air
And giants saw the might of wives
Whose skillets broke their stare

Though ten times their size ungainly they
When little folk they thought would yield
The small ones made them richly pay
For messing up their green grass fields

So giants - 'ware the little folk
'Tis Wardd's own luck they make
You'll ne'er break the oxen's yoke
On halflings' lands you try to take!

In Crescent Vale they tell the tale
Of when the green grass grew
With twisted cords it wrapped and scored
The big'uns coming through
"So, you've got part of your story wrong, 'least from what I've heard. But, just in case you've got some of the truth of it, we'll talk with the authorities - in the morning. Now, do you have a place to stay? If not, I'll talk to my folks, and maybe we can put you up for the night."

He reminds his friends that about six years ago some folks who work with Wold's Blood attended to shoring up the towers. "We have been paying them mind - just ask the Second Lunch wizards."

He invites anyone else who doesn't have a place to stay to come to his place for the night. "We ought to get some good sleep."

At the house, if he comes with them, there is a room for the vagabond - a place many friends and strangers have stayed ... and watched over by one of the family dogs who keeps an eye on guests, to make sure they don't go wandering past the washroom in the home.

The man stares at Murphy with a look mixed with enjoyment and confusion. Once Murphy finishes, he offers a one-manned applause. After hearing his information was at least partially wrong, the joy vanishes and is replaced with a strange, disjointed fit of anger.

"No! Youse has it wrong! I was there with the guys and its getting later on the nightingale...Who are you anyways to be attacking me wit' yer words and singing about da..."

The strange vagrant howls at the moon and the runs off into the night.

"Still, you're a natural! Y'oughta change profession." He added, with a smile shortly followed by a sigh. "I'm going to dig myself a hole and crawl in it." So did the saddened Flimsipold sob further, walking very slowly down the road and towards his burrow, which was likely to receive an extra room. "I'll see y'all tomorrow, to look for clues and that."

Shel woke early, excited to see what the challenges held for them. Yesterday had been quite fun, what with all the celebrating and festivities in town, so she could only wonder what might happen during the actual competitions.

She quickly grabbed her armband and haphazardly tied it onto her arm. She waved to Cora (assuming she made it to the kick off), and turned to her fellow teammates. "Good luck everyone. Remember to have fun out there today. I bet there are all kinds of fun tasks to be completed!". She was practically dancing with excitement, wondering what was getting ready to commence.

Zylo awoke early just as the sun was breaking over the horizon despite his splitting headache from the drinking of the night before. Before meeting up with the group and receiving his arm band from Alouryn, he takes a quick stroll to town and to the old hovel that him and his uncle lived in when he was just a boy. Now occupied by another family of course Zylo doesn't take a much closer look and instead simply enjoys the memories of the joy he had with his uncle living in that small hovel.

He eventually scrapes himself from the memories of his past and joins up with the rest of the team and receives his armband. He attempts to appear as happy as the others but his mind is still fixated on the memories of his uncle.

Alouryn wakes early with jittery excitement about the promise of a fun filled day. She quickly gathers up her things and the 10 arm bands she cut the night before. "I never liked dancing with two ribbons anyways! And my whip is much more colourful too!" She smiles to herself, and dances out the door.

When she meets up with everyone else she greets them warmly and hands them their ribbon. When she runs into Hazel she smiles a little brighter: "Look Hazel I cut a ribbon for Faoil too, maybe he can use it as a collar or tie it to his tail? I don't know much about animals, but I really like flowers. Someday you'll have to show me the flowers that grow in the wild." She ponders for a second, then nods in agreement thinking to herself, "Yes, that IS a good idea."
"Maybe we will have to find a rare flower for the scavenger hunt!"

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood (Kim) At the family burrow
Friday July 12th, 2013 10:34:00 PM

That evening, Murphy talks with his Uncle Orby about the report of the vagabond. He knows that Orby knew some of the people who had joined in the defense of the valley ages ago. He asks him his thoughts, as Orby knows a fair bit about Crescent Valley history, and raises some of the best peas and beans in the town, and good pipeleaf, too.

His uncle reminds him of the old wizard Shafbaffum, who built the sentinel towers very shortly before the giants attacked. And another wizard augmented them later. "And again about seven years back, a fixer spent more time shoring them up," Orby said. "Then the Second Supper Club - I hear they have looked at them. Your brother Kendry was up there - ran into the fixer, who wouldn't let Kendry or his friends get inside to look around. But he said the man seemed trustworthy, and fixed the bell tower in Angel Springs a short time after our cousin Ebryon was born to Penelope. Huge vines had grown up inside the tower, and were about set to knock it down. But, he took the Blood of the Wold, and in about a day, the vines were gone, the bricks were sound.

"Look, Murphy, I'm fixin' to finish carving this pipe so it's ready in the morning. Why don't you go say hello to your pillow, and let me get it done," he suggested, looking over the top of his spectacles at the family's youngest druid, and precluding further questioning. "Wardd's fortune with you on the morrow."

[OoC: Need to add a bit more later. have to run for now]

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood (Kim) Humble's Ford Game Day: Prep; and Starting Line
Saturday July 13th, 2013 2:38:48 AM

Murphy wakes early enough to exercise his fairly recently-developed discipline of morning devotion and spell memorization, eats two bowls of the oatmeal, raisins, apple slices, and honey his mother has prepared, thanks her, tells his younger brother Samki and sister Feather that they can come watch the games as soon as Mama tells them she is satisfied with their chores. "Mama, you should come out too, if you can. Papa's back from the Culverwood tomorrow, with more wood for toys and those lyre orders, right?"

He grabs three apples from the bowl, tossing two into a rucksack containing who knows what, and empties a whole bowl of smoked salted almonds into a free pouch. With a couple of bota bags full of something slung over a shoulder, and a rucksack containing who knows what, he gives his mother a kiss on her forehead. "See you, Mama. You're the best!"

Punching his brother Demko in the arm on his way out, he sprints quickly to avoid retaliation. "Later, Dem! Tell Darcie the jar is on her dresser!"

He munches on the apple on the way to the meeting place, tossing the well-nibbled core into some tall grass. "Thanks for the ribbons, Alouryn. Do you have one for Cora? If not, let her have mine, and we can split one of the other ones down the middle for a couple of us to wear. Sweet color, these.

"Say, let's go off out of earshot, and find out what resources each of us offers - item we've got, tools, spells, brains, brawn, good looks, classy ripostes, white teeth, y'know, whatever might help us in the game." He pulls one of the pouches off his belt, opens it, and sprinkles smoked salted almonds into the hands of any who wants a snack. He has a waterskin and a skin of wine to share as well.

When they find a reasonably private place to talk, Murphy offers: "For spells and such, I can send wee lightning arcs out about ten yards (1d6+1) about six times a day. Can raise a mist it's hard to see through (obscuring mist); I can detect poison, mend some things, place a flare in the eyes to dazzle someone for a moment or two, run faster, and a few other things.

"I have some daggers, and a sickle. All right, who is next?"

Once everyone has had a chance to give a rundown on assets and abilities the team can use, then Murphy goes with the group to the pavilion they were at yesterday at dusk to get starting instructions.

Shel Breezelee Kromnite (Gerald)
Saturday July 13th, 2013 8:24:10 AM

Shel agrees with Murphy that talking about their talents was a good idea. "About all I can do it cast a few spells. I can tell if something is magical or not, can summon a small light if we would need it in the dark, can communicate via whispers with one of you as long as we are within 100' or so, and can conjure little blasts of acid. My two better tricks are being able to confound, blind, and sometimes even knock out someone with strange lights, and I can sometimes put creatures to sleep for a few seconds. Fighting isn't my strong suit. I'm pretty weak when it comes to that...heck I didn't even bring my dagger with me today. I do think I might help a bit in the white teeth and good looks department," she giggles at her goofy joke about her looks.

Unfortunately, after she finished speaking, her attention for the discussion started to wane, and she began incessantly fiddling with her armband, then started examining all the passersby, whether spectators or other teams.

He sits next to Alouryn, and munches some almonds and starts to speak as he chew them.

"Me and Faoil can go places really fast, and I have a keen eye for finding stuff. And if we are required to hunt." - he smiles at his own joke.

Edric woke as the sun rises. After rousing himself from bed, he took in a small meal of porridge and a chunk of cheese, followed by a smoke of his pipe. Feeling refreshed, he gathered his equipment and headed off to receive his armband and meet with the team.

Edric responds to Murphy's call for an equipment check: "I've got my axe, my sling, a club and a dagger. I'm a warrior at heart; I can't do any of that fancy magic but I know how to swing an axe, and I know how to take an enemy down."

Odo rises early himself, eating an excessive breakfast at his parents' house in order to stave off last night's drink, before heading out to meet the others. He greets the others with a wave and a nod. Despite the nature of his breakfast, though, the swordsman hungrily accepts a handful of almonds from Murphy.

"There're a few things I'm good at," he starts, flecks of chewed almond spitting from his mouth as he does so. "But mostly killin rats and such. Sometimes bigger animals too, but aye: Mostly rats.

Overhearing Murphy's comment to Flim he slaps the bard on the back. "Aye, Master Billy. Perhaps we can find you another pretty girl to chase after, eh?" He laughs nervously at his own suggestion, smiling awkwardly.

" Domi has blessed me with the strength to help on the front lines as well as keep up rear guard if needed."

Eral thanks Alouryn for the ribbon and ties it on his right arm. " I guess we are still up in the air on what we might be looking for but I'm sure with our great mix of halflings we should be able to do anything that is asked."

OOC: Eral brought all his gear with him but is wearing most of his armor and weapons below his robe.
