We strengthen our defenses first, and then we go after the ones responsible for this."

Once the funeral is over the Group tries to reach a consensus on what to do next. Yngvar and Togeran prefer to stay in the Post and prepare it for another siege. Not only do they worry about the Post but if Tusk or the Goblins he sent for the Post are but a fragment of his power they fear it's likely the group won't survive...
Ragnarök and Asteron don't like waiting and prefer to take the initiative. Warrior tactics dictate that offense is the best defense...
As no clear plan is made Asteron remembers the prisoner...
The Kobold looks pretty battered. When Asteron approaches he crawls back against the wall pulling the ropes that restrain him... no way to get out... The little one needs little encouragement.
"... Skagh fight for Boss Wathe ... Boss Wathe will pay Skagh... Skagh meet Boss when done. Follow trail to river ... cross to meet Boss for pay. Boss Wathe kind for Skagh... Boss Wathe pay. Post bad Post must go. Boss Town good. "
But then he gets very nervous and frantically pulls on the ropes...
"Skagh must go! Not there in time... Boss Wathe angry! Skagh not want Boss Wathe angry... Must go quick! Let go Skagh... Skagh no tell Skagh loose... "

Asteron turns back towards the others, hiding a smile of contempt from the kobold. He then says, making sure his voice does not carry to their prisoner, "Hmm... is this an opportunity to meet this Boss type outside his Town? Could this be the break we need? If it is, it has to be decided now, and we need some magical compulsion on this Skagh kobold so that he can't betray us. What do you think?"

Yngvar considers the kobold for a moment. Something odd though. Wathe sends his flunky to mess with us and hire the kobolds, but then he's going to leave his own home turf to meet a kobold? "We could scout the situation to be sure, but if said potential goon happens to be the lovely gentlemen we met the other day...we're as good as dead. Or the scout is. Such a shame I don't have any half-decent scouting spell...not even sure one exists...maybe we can press the prisoner for more info? You know, in his native language?"
"Either way, the Outpost needs repairs and strengthening. Even if we go about and somehow leverage the whole of this Town place, if we happen to get some bad timing and they attack again, our victory might end up being as empty as a golem's mind.", says Faust, looking rather frustrated.

Skagh's revelations abouut his task opens a debate between the Post' defenders. Something smell fishy Yngvar says but he is unable to pinpoint what troubles him. Faust is worried they will see Tunks again and contemplates the lack of decent scouting skills. Asteron however sees the potential... This Kobold's information might be all that is needed to find the infamous Boss Wathe and potentially put an end to the rivalry between the Post and Town. It seemed to Asteron that this... Boss... was as ready to harm his allies as he was intent on destroying the Outpost. But he is also sure that the team should use the opportunity to take the fight to Boss Waithe. Maybe not taking him on, or his lieutenants, but maybe they could get some of their underlings somehow, with a well-conceived plan? They needed to think, and quickly. Boss Waithe was not going to wait for the kobold all day.

We might be able to catch whoever this kobold, either Boss Waithe himself or one of his goons. Besides..." Toregan glances at struggling kobold again. "If we're lucky, we might even find some fine wood and plan a mission to get some of it", adds Faust in a lighter tone.
"If we all agree to the scouting plan, Wolfgang can also help a bit...he has recently started to speak to me, the odd little fella, and while he's not quite as eloquent and knowledgeable as the sayings about owls suggest, he's quite a handy and sneaky scout, though I wouldn't trust on sending him alone for the quest, bird of prey as he is, here in this jungle he's nothing but snack on his own."

Skagh overheard some of the discussion and suddenly he stops pulling his ropes...
"Evil Post Men want help Skagh?! Skagh no help need. Skagh not go home... no honor for Skagh family if Skagh go home with no Shinies... Post not gone Skagh not go home... Skagh no home... Evil Post Men better kill Skagh..."

Either by staying here or possibly by confronting Boss Wathe. This Kobold has little hope beyond of the Post... going home would indeed dishonor his family and his tribe. Perhaps we can keep him here and have him work for us?
From here to the river is little over 2 days... if there are no other scouts observing the Post Boss Wathe won't know till 3 days that we survived. Perhaps a timeframe you should take advantage of? Right now it appears the biggest threat for the Post lies with Boss Wathe... "

"If possible, we might even have some spiked logs placed along our perimeter for extra protection from future dinosaur stampedes...not to mention fix the watchtowers, with that I believe we'll be quite protected against anything this Wathe can throw at us save for an all-out war, which will be unlikely in this jungle terrain."
"Also, I don't believe they to have any druids, I find it hard to picture those nature loving lot aligning themselves with the Town's aggressive ways, though I know nothing of their beliefs and obligations, ergo can't say for sure.", adds Faust, thinking where they might be able to get some fine wood on short notice.

The decision to stay in the Post and see to its repairs and defences appears to be made. Yngvar and Faust consider the threat of the Post being attacked far greater and prefer not to meet Boss Wathe out in the open. Asteron though is worried that this sounds like getting trapped on the Mesa... after all... it is as difficult to reach the Post as it is to get down from.
The Mesa is roughly 1000 square miles or a rough circle with a radius of about 18 miles. The Post is at the southwestern end of it. There are several trails up besides the lift of course... there's the one the original party once followed to come to the Post the first time and then there are 2 on the south, 1 west and 1 on the northern side. There are a couple of acres with crops, some wildlife and a well that foresees to the Post's water supplies.
Pen feels the indecisiveness with the group so the gnome tries to put the group at ease...
"Friends, in less than a day I believe the repair crew that was sent to Way station 10 will return... they can certainly help fortifying the Post. If the Monk's correct and the Post is not attacked at least for another couple of days I'm sure we'll have plenty of men available. What concerns me most is not the safety of the Post but rather that merchants will no longer come this way;.. This is a trade conflict and even if we manage to keep the Post in shape we may not see any traders anymore for a long long time. A confrontation with Boss Wathe will be unavoidable... and while there are others who can do the repairs... there are none better for the other task at hand... "
The sun shines bright on the clear blue sky. Temperature is rising high and the ones that started doing repairs are soon all sweaty and thirsty.
Ok folks I need to know what you are going to do now - if you stay on the Post, how long will you stay? If you go out, when will you go? THere are a couple of loose ties also : loot still has not been distributed and what will you do with Skagh.

Noon is passed when the group finally reaches a concenses. Untill the repair crew returns they will help with repairs and further reinforcements to the Post.
With no time to waste the Cthonians work hard to get the Post back into shape. First the damaged section in the Wall is repaired and with advice of the adventurers new fortifications are created. Two of the Post's staff are sent to check on the different trails that lead up the Mesa and the elevator crew at the bottom of the Mesa is reinforced also.
Soon all men working on the Pallisades are gleaming with sweat... the sun burns and with not a cloud in sight it makes work pretty exhausting. Luckily water is available - Skagh, his feet tied together in a way he can walk but not run is forced to carry water. When evening falls dinner is served in the Inn. All are exhausted and eat because they have to... guards are set during the night and plans are made for an early start the next morning.
...
At first light of dawn the breakfast bell rings loud to wake all in the Post... a lot of work still needs to be done and there's no sign of the repair crew yet... It immediately becomes obvious that today as well will be a very warm day with hardly any wind...
Shortly after lunch when all are ready to get to work again a message arrives. The repaircrew has reached the elevator at the bottom of the Mesa! At last! They are in good health (thirsty though) and have succesfully repaired the waystation. As the crew finally comes to the Post gate they are startled to see and hear what has happened...
"Well now... we got back just in time then don' we! Where do we start?! "
Feel free to give directions to the repair crew. Then decide if, when and in what direction you will leave the Post. Also, do decide what to do with Skagh and the Loot from earlier.

As it's the dawn of a new day, Faust gives it another shot, properly cool headed, at identifying the lens found the day before before breakfast even, so he frees one spell slot for adventuring/combat.
"Dondarin, I suggest we swap wands, this one I have in hand cures more severe wounds and, as such, shall be better fit for your more capable hands -whatever the reason for that is-", he mutters that last bit a little resentful to himself, not really meant to be heard, "...while I keep the Cure Light one just in case the group comes apart or, Ffloy forbids it, you faint in battle."
"Likewise, whoever our scout will be, the kobolds had with them an elixir that grants the user a thieve's cunning for hiding for about an hour. That, coupled with a round of Invisibility shall make him almost impossible to track or notice."
"Should also allow him to stalk our prisoner without being noticed, especially with Wolfgang providing support."

Yngvar looks to the repair crew welcome back! More job security! Smiling with his own joke, he leads them over to where the repairs are continuing with the wall and tower.
First, we just finished repairing this section of wall and the tower. What we want next, is another wall 10' in front of that one. Try to find bigger tree stumps, at least twice the diameter for that wall, and set it 5' higher. The space in the middle needs to be filled with dirt and stamped down to compact the dirt. You can get the dirt by digging a moat 15' in front of the wall. Yngvar knows it's a monumental task with the manpower needed, but simple in design. Looking at the gate, I'd suggest you start with the gate, and work your way out from there. I'd suggest that you sink the outer wall 20' out, then fill and pack 10' segments inside the walls at a time. Layer the dirt six inches deep, pack it down, then repeat. Yngvar lays out a few diagrams showing the crew what he is talking about with a wall sample.
Pointing out the three sides of the outpost with walls, Working out from the gates, cover the front to the corners, then work down the sides. Next will be to sharpen more stakes and set them in the ground between the moat and wall at 20 and 40 degrees, alternating between the two, and setting a stake every foot.
Turning back towards the gate. We'll have to leave the ground open in front of the gate until we can build a drawbridge, it'll be our weakest spot, but we can also concentrate forces there.

He does tell the others, when out of earshot of everyone else: "I suggest we split the loot, and then let the kobold go free. If Wolfgang can keep up with him, we can follow without the creature noticing, as we will not need to be too close. I can also follow tracks or find them if necessary. But I do suggest we start moving quickly."
He pauses as he changes the subject. "Master Yngvar, the repair crew is here, and you have told them what to do. I believe it is now our turn to do what we know ought to be done. Let's blindfold the kobold, so he does not see everything we are doing, and remove the fold after we lower him via the elevator. That way he will not know that we found the trail they used to climb up." - - - - - OOC; Who has the bag of gems? Those need to be counted :)

AS Rag goes through the gems Skagh pulls his restraints to no avail. THis time Faust is able to figure out the lens... it is set in a frame with a handle and as he holds it in front of his eyes Faust suddenly sees everything with minute details! This must be a lens od detection he says to his friends.
Loot included a Wand of Bruning Hands, Wand of Cure Light Wounds, Elexir of hiding, a lens of detection and gems worth 1000 gp.
With the instructions given the repair crew soon begins working. The sun still sits high on the sky when plans are made to go after Boss Wathe. Asteron suggest letting Skahg go and send him down the magic elevator... while the group follows the trail the Kobolds took earlier.
Then the Cthonians look at one another...wands are swapped, gems are divided... time to go it seems...
and so about a day and a half after the stampede the group readies to move out...
(I need marching orders and a heading - if you follow Skagh's directions you will need to follow the trail thz kobolds came from...)

"Unless any of you has a better idea, we might want me to hold on to the elixir of hiding. I am the noisiest and biggest, so the group might benefit from me using it at a critical moment. But its your call. Those with stealthy skills could also want it for yourselves" Just an idea. Asteron will not insist in him keeping it.

Hey there Haggard, we're leaving soon, if you have a couple of Hope's pies ready, I'd like to take them. It'll be a welcome addition to our supplies while we're out. Yngvar tries to subtly look around to see if Hope is about, but she isn't in the main room. His glances aren't missed by the craggy brewer, she's out checking the garden, them 'saurs done trampled it good. Reaching under the counter, he pulls out a wine bottle wrapped with twine, here's some melon brandy, you'll enjoy it. And that'll be 10 gold for the brandy, and another for the pies.
Aww, no discount for your favorite adventurer? Yngvar smiles as he pulls out a couple of coins and carefully loads the items into his haversack. [/b]Nice thing about this bag, it'll keep these pies right side up! I'll keep an eye out for those wild onions you've been asking about as well.[/b]

The Cthonias keep following the trail North untill the sun decends. Then they prepare to make camp. While Yngvar creates a nifty hammock for himself, Asteron starts to search in the vincity for edible plants, berries, possibly a rabbit or whatever little animals he can easily get his hands on. After a little while he's able to return with a large handful of fresh mushrooms, a couple of blueberries (or whatever they are called out in Cthonia) and some great tasting carrots. All in all , it's far better tasty than the shewy trail rations Ragnarök was about to eat...
While they eat what nature has provided the group discusses how to deal with Boss Wathe or may the Jericho forbid that dreadful Tunks once again... "Still, basic plan of 'impair him and burn to a crisp' should give us results..." Faust concludes after looking for some nifty spells that have Wathe or Tunks's name on...
With the last berries gone night falls and an utter darkness falls over the Cthonian wilderness... night critters go about and all sort of noises you won't hear during the day are now all around the campsite... likely it cools down during the night and a cool breeze rustles through the canopy making the tall trees rock slowly with the wind. Looking blankly at the Taur at first Toregan gets up once he realizes Asteron isn't joking... he rouses his companions and readies his bow to retalliate if the Smilidons attack...
Another Smilidon approaches the campsite from the rear growling to Toregan as he raises his bow... the hasty movements of the Cthonians force to Smilidons to be on alert... Toregan has no clue if the Smilidons will attack... he notices their deadly fangs and realises those could easily tear flesh from even the Taur's bones...
Faust to wakes up... stands proper and grabs his backpack... more unexpected movements cause the Smilidons to snort agressively, raise a paw where long fangs seem to rip through the air. The Drow Wizard however isn't alerted by the catlike predators... they were out hunting and appeared to be curious about the group... he's the only one to see somewhat more clearly in the dim light and counts two saber tooth like cats. Za´reed shifts his gaze from the drow to the minotaur, seemingly strong and tough, a very imposing creature indeed. The question of his business doesn't surprise Za´reed, but the offer to come sit and tell his story catches him by surprise. He feels the humans eyes gauging his movements so he nods at the unarmed man and moves toward the group to sit down.
In drow, Za´reed looks and speaks to the other, I mean you no harm, I seek companionship most of all. Smiling as he finishes, Za´reed looks each one of the party directly in their eyes. Then begins to speak in common, I heard of a town being built, and of its goodly protectors. I'm young with ambitions. I wish to become part of something meaningful. Part of something that will passed down for generations. Making the Wold a better place. He shifts in his seat and rubs his eyes.
A few moments pass as Za´reed thinks to himself. Pa´das would have had me do this. Take the risk, if I'm wrong of them i could outrun them i think. Fortune does smile on me if this really is the town guard or a small band of its militia
He clears his throat and looks around again, my story you ask? Nothing incredible, but here goes. A little over a year ago my father brought me on yet another of his trading routes. As he passed the edges of the jungle i ran off to brave the natural surface world i had heard of. Never actually living underground I've been curious of the world around me. So, living about a tenday alone i encountered an elder wizardress. Her bodyguard had been crushed by a deenoser, she called it. Pa´das, panther in elven, was her name. I protected her while she learned the secrets of the jungle. In turn she taught me secrets of the arcane. I learned much from this woman, even by protecting her i learned of this land and its animals. She returned to the land mere days ago, the loss presses deeply on my chest. But she wanted me to continue my journey, seek out town and make a name among them for myself.
I see your headed there. Are you returning from a hunt? Where is your prey? Or are you returning from a battle with a rival? Is that why there are so few of you? What is your business within town?
Za´reed tears up again as he speaks of Pa´das' death, quickly regaining his composure in front of these new people, but staring at the ground as he asks his final questions. Twisting a brown wooden ring on his right middle finger. He speaks softly and at a moderate pace, obviously very comfortable with common language. He sets the tan-brown pack, off his back, next to him. As he awaits response he reaches in the pack and begins rummaging around, looking for something.
Za´reed tells his story emotionally and truthfully. Obviously hoping to be accepted by the small party, and to learn of there cause, hoping his judgment correct.

"Still....I can relate to the 'be part of something bigger' bit; my reason for being here entirely, though one could say my reasons for such are much less pure and romantic.", he shrugs smiling.
Soon, however, his expression dims and he gets quite serious, "As for Town...well, indeed we are heading there but...erm...care to elaborate a bit on what you have heard of heard of the place and its protectors...?"

With a certain hesitancy Za'Reed approaches the adventurers with hiss hands out to his sides. Trying not to look too menacing Asteron holds on to his blade as he starts questioning the stranger. Za'Reed senses the Monk is leaving the diplatic chit chat to his friends but his eyes are peering into the center of his being... Luckily he has nothing to hide. Rag is at ease with the knowledge that this new Drow's intentions are good...
Sensing his friends are at ease, Toregan welcomes the strange white haired blue skinned Drow into their camp.
Za'Reed accepts Toregan's invitation and tells the tale of how he ended up alone in the jungle and the reason for lookong for the place called 'Town'...
Faust's surprised to hear the tale... "Care to elaborate a bit on the what you have heard of the place and its protectors?" Faust concludes...
The Smilidons are gone... Too early to rise... To late to sleep on? Take your rest good friends... You may need it... "

While a great wizardress, a human nearly ninty years old has long lost any attrative features they may have once had. Za'Reed replys as he pulls a wooden scroll case from the big opening of his pack, two smaller pockets are secured with buckle straps on both sides of the pack as well. The case seems to be long enough to stick out the top of the pack, oddly enough though the drow was elbow deep when he pulls it out. Pulling the drawstring tight he sets it to the side of his seat, opening the wooden case and retrieves a piece of parchment, sighing as he grabs the odd pack again and gets two vials of ink (one black, one green) and a feather quill. Dipping into the black he begins to draw more on the page with moderate talent. The beginings of a detailed canopy picture has already been started.
As he draws he speaks again I only know the town exists. That it must be protected from the beasts of the jungle. I had thought you good peoples to be part of its protection, it would seem that I am wrong?
He looks up into the canopy, using a cantrip to clean the quill of black ink, in the dim light of the minor spell six claw marks can be seen on his neck. Three on each side, obviously not scars as they are outlined in black and colored in with shades of green. A dark "forest" green starts just under his jaw bones and lightens as they reach his collar bones in "lime"green shades. He dips the quill in green ink and continues to speak and draw.
I hear your all tired, and in need of rest for your trip into the town. The dark blue skinned drow looks up from his picture to once again lay eyes on everyone in the camp. Only letting his gaze linger on each for a few heartbeats, he finally looks back to the minotaur. While I do not doubt your good hearts, I also do not doubt your strength and commitment to your cause.
Setting his quill into the vial of green ink he points to his pack and gestures his clothing and weapons, This is all I own. I know very little of this land, you say your headed to town, but obviously are not its guards or scouts. I, Za Dar'Fien Reed, am wanting to commit myself to a greater good. So please, before you rest, or who ever is on watch duty these last few hours, tell me your names. Tell me, if even briefly, of your cause or reason your in the jungle, why are you headed to town and finally, if the town is not your home then where is?
Za'Reeds "readied" actions if this will help speed things up. Za'Reed gives his attention to who ever is speaking, but continues to draw as well. If at least some of the information he asked for is givin then he continues to draw for another hour and then sleeps until awoken. If only names or one question is answered then he will quickly pack up and bid them good night. But tells Faust in drow I shall see you in town brother.

Both Ragnarök and Yngvar feel the get to know eachother should take place in morning light... perhaps with a light breakfast or at least once they feel well awake...
Asteron however wants to give Za'Reed some things to ponder about through the rest of the night... "Well, if you want to belong to something greater than yourself, and feel good about the way you go about it, you are welcome to join us." The Barbarians informs Za'Reed that the group doesn't come from Town but instead from a place called the Post... and they are far from befriended with Town at the moment... especially not with the one they call Boss Wathe...
Somehow it seems the group feels pretty safe about the Drow... instead of questioning him or telling Za'Reed who they are they seem exhausted and eager to go to bed again...
Looks like Za'Reed will have to wait till morning for proper introductions :-)
Za'Reed and Asteron shrug while the others turn around either in their hammocks or on their bedrolls...

Faust yawns loudly in the morning, still somewhat sleepy from the eventful night.
He does, however, notice the newcomer making his morning routines and finds it especially intriguing once he starts his cantrip training.
"Funny, you do know some arcane; when you mentioned in the night I thought it was merely alchemy or wand usage at best...especially with that physique of yours...", he chuckles a bit, [/b]"What's next? Urban druids?"[/b], he concludes.
He finishes his morning preparations by munching on some rations, properly enhanced in flavor with Prestidigitation, while reading his grimoire and choosing his spells for the day.
On the road, as Za'reed starts to question, he approaches the newcomer and says: "Easy cousin, all in due time. We do trust you with our company, however, as Twon seems to indeed be our sworn enemy, we still cannot cast the possibility of you being a spy, willing or otherwise, completely, so our secrets will have to wait."
"I can, however, trust the tale of how I got here: I hail from the Float and, much like you, seek to make a big name for myself, by helping in charting the Cthonian jungle and turning it into a valid and safe trade route. At first I did think of going to Town, however, after more extensive research I came to know that it was the Outpost that maintained the roads, so I strayed my path there instead...not the wisest idea, as none of the merchants accompanied me, but still is what I did."
"However, at that time I thought Town and Outpost were related, I only learned that Town and the Outpost weren't allies but instead rivals...or enemies, even, after coming here and after quite some weeks at that."
"I decided that my talents are for the Outpost's, reason being that Town seems to want to control the Cthonia by itself, devoid of competition or allies, after all, even though the method of colonization used by the Town and the Outpost are opposites and perhaps even impossible to conciliate, that's still not reason enough to flag a potential ally as enemy and treat him as such."
"There's ought to be some ulterior motive to their actions, something far more petty than ideological head-butting. There is something here that they want and certainly don't want to share. Perhaps I'm being paranoid and they just want a cartel over road usage, but that by itself is already a bad enough thing for commerce and development of civilization.", he concludes, but soon after starts again:
"Also, I believe it'll be good to fill you in on each's ideologies. Town seems quite willing to use wildlife as weapons and threaten local folk to do their bidding; the Outpost, on the other hand, is more interested in overall safety and survival, being the ones who built and maintain the waystations that the merchants who go to Town use, and only getting from the land what they need, being much less harmful for the whole in the end. Considering that I believe this place to have much that should be studied and learned about instead of merely used and discarded, the Outpost's mindset is much more in lieu with my objectives regardless of who welcomed me in open arms and who tried to murder me."

"As for why Town is doing this, my guess would be trade monopoly. They've been spreading false rumors back at The Float and they didn't really lose much with their attack on the post. A couple hundred gold worth of gems in exchange for complete control of Cthonia's trade is a good exchange. Sometimes is can be that simple."

Za'Reed smiles at Faust Yes; within this past year I spent with Pa'das I learned very much actually. She only passed four days ago now. You all happend to cross my path only hours after I had finished Chanting for her proper send off she had asked me to preform. As far as my build, I served, an no small part, in my fathers guards. One of six skilled fighters that protected his wagon as he travelled. I'd no knowledge of arcane then, besides run for cover from fire balls Hehehe A genuine laugh came from Za then.
A feeling washes over the drow as Faust tells his own story and opinions of the situation. A feeling he'd only barely felt before in his life. These people are actually looking at me as a possible member of their outpost. Not a lost Drow. Sure they may have their doubts, but anyone who knows about survival would have doubts of grandma's cookies, much less an armed drow who also know's a bit of magic..
Za'Reed walks near Faust for a time; So, enemies ey? Is it more like this BaressWay guy that Asteron mentioned last night? Is it he who calls your Outpost his enemies? Or is it just accepted by the townspeople throughout Town? With rumours spread at the Float I would guess the Town's people have heard them and built their opinion of you based on what they've heard, since you've never been their before.
He listens and nods his head to Asteron and Yngvar; Then his eyes follow the golden horns from Asteron's head to their tips. Mentally guessing as to their worth with his limite knowledge of what he'd learned of appraising gold from his father. Appraise: 6 After only a few moments of looking, Za'Reed gives up, only curiosity had him even try as it was. I've no knowledge of your horns master Taur. But I for one would surely like to know how they are that color. And maybe how much their worth as well? Heheh Za laughs a bit at this, trying to keep it light and quiet but can't quite keep his chuckle from being heard, a warm smile is given as he meets Asterons eyes.
As noon appraches and it gets really hot, one could almost see Za's black skin seem to boil. He becomes fairl quiet. Moving forward with balance, hardly with his normal sense of grace, took all his concentration. He drinks twice an hour from his water skin, not wanting to run out of the needed drink. Through the four hours of intense heat Za is indeed drained of a bit of energy, but maybe not as bad as some others.
Turning back to Faust, who Za feels a certain comfort with, he begins thinking about whats ahead an hour or so after the temp. comes down a bit. In Drow he asks, By the gods its Hot in this place... Does it ever let up? Anyways, since you've never been to Town before, I think when we get close we should split up. At least have the stealthier ones break off from the main group to help search and flank any enemies we may encounter.
Then, as he knows everyone can hear him speaking even if they don't know what he's saying, We are to approach town at night time right? I think it a fool to approach a known enemies town during daylight. Are we to make camp before nightfall? Asteron and Rag trot along wihout speaking luch... instead they try to cope with the heat...
Ideas a raised to approach Town during nightime or daytime... in split up groups or all together... stiil so far there is no consensus. Just as the group plans to make camp in what appears to be a great spot Rag suddenly notices the ant hills surrounding the place... thousands... no millions... probably much more than that even ants are crawling all over the place. Already some of these pesky vermin is already swarmig around you... no one is bitten at the moment but.. it's probanly best to make camp qlightly further... Walking just 15 minutes more, you come near a nice clearing in the jungle... ideal for camp making. Even a few trees ideally suited for Yngvar's hammock!

Za smiles at the warm comments about Pad'as from Toregan, Yes, the knowledge and the Tattoo is all I have left. I buried her with most of her possessions, taking only scrolls and potions the two of us had made together. Although I never did quite grasp potion making.
Talking about Pad'as puts Za on edge a bit. His eyes show his pain as they reach the ant hills. Saying nothing, but internally relieved when they move on to find the better campsite, Don't think a cantrip could have repelled all thos ants.. A fire though...
Hearing about the rumours and the others thoughts on their approach, Za thinks for a moment before speaking. Daylight may actually be of help in this I'd guess.. Although, I think it depends on their intentions here..
So, the attack on the post.. Did any of them get away? To return to Town? If Some of them came back then the Boss would surely know your not all dead. If none of them came back, I'd say he's prepared for you all to counter. If all of them returned, then maybe he believes the Post destroyed and everyone dead.
Za'Reed continues speaking as he begins to set up his bed roll for the night and drink a bit of wine with slow sips. Something to trade? Now why do that? I'm not one for blood shed if it can be avoided. But what do you intend to accomplish with this visit to Town? Za shakes his head and sips from his wineskin again, If the man was to destroy the Post and kill everyone who resides there, do you truly wish to make an offering of good faith that a few gemstones will prevent another attack? I think that silly at best.. He looks at Asteron with sharp eyes, An offering? I'm new to your group, and will follow your lead as long as it's just, but an offering to the one who ordered the Post destroyed... I'll be silent during our meeting.
He takes one last drink from his wine and puts it back into his haversack, If the Town as a whole are not against the Post, I'd say most of them don't even know of the attack, or you guys, much less what you look like. You say the attack was by Kobolds; does the race live amongst Town? I know you said you've never been to Town, so maybe you all wouldn't know.
If I had to guess I'd say the Town has walls or a fence guarded day and night, especially the entry gates. Daylight or Night I say we try to bribe to the guards to let us in without bringing attention to our group, and then we ask around a tavern or market to find out where the Boss is. Or if he believes the Post destroyed and all his men returned, and this I think is my preferred approach, we simply say we wish a meeting with the Boss, Wath is name? Bribe the guards if we must to take us directly to him, saying we are Mercinaries looking for work, travelers looking to make a home in Town.
The drow shurgs his shoulders and looks around at everyone who is listening, I don't know, what are your thoughts Faust? Toregan? Asteron? What are your intentions or hopes of this visit? What do you wish to accomplish here? In any case, your right Asteron, we need a plan.

Only now, as they are about a day away from Town, the Cthonians start thinking about what to do once they come to Town... Za tries to get to the bottom of the conflict he suddenly seems to be right in the middle of with this odd group...
During the evening the temperature further drops making it much more comfortable. Spending the night under the Cthonian nightsky is actually pretty amasing... not a cloud in sight... a crescent moon and thousands of stars... if only their mission would be totally different they might possibly enjoy the peaceful night. But still in Cthonia the jungle never sleeps. You can hear a lone howling wolf in the distance. Bats circle the clearing. And during every watch you hear animals around the camp hiding in the dark jungle...
As morning comes you all feel refreshed (all non-lethal damage is gone). A quick breakfast and then you set out on foot again still going due North... after half a day you hear the rustle of the river ahead of you. If you approach the river you can spot a bridge in the far distance upstream... you can walk along he river bank if you want. That's most likely that 'New Bridge' Skagh referred to and that means you are about half a day away from Town... From the look of it the river is far to wild here to cross so that bridge is probably the only way across...

With the 'New Bridge' in eyesight the Cthonians start thinking about how to proceed... will they just walk up the bridge and go to the meeting that was planned for the Kobolds to show? A meeting that they are allready a day late for?
Faust starts wondering if Town would really allow Kobolds to walk around... after all they are a dangerous species besides a few friendly tribes perhaps... he suggest using a disguise or some spells to make some of the group resemble Skagh and his brothers.
Ybgvar remains rather stern... "We'll wing it when we get there?" is all he has to say for now...
With more pieces of the puzzle unfolding Za'Reed asks his new companions for more details about this so called invitation and meeting... he informs Faust that he has some minor capabilities to pretend to be a Kobold.
Ragnarök tries to summerize the events of the last couple of days as best has he can to Za'Reed but he's certain he probably left out some details. He offers to act like the group's scout in the absense of a proper scout. He starts not too bad as he tries to see what goes on on the bridge up ahead... from here it looks like a decent bridge. Wide enough for a small wagon to cross single file. Looks like Boss Wathe is trying to make the 'road' to Town more accessable for potential customers...
Asteron wouldn't mind Rag to take point and scout ahead before moving into the unknown...

While one of the rogues was talking, the other two flanked Za... They are about 20 ft away from Za... Toregan is over halfway the bridge... Rag witnesses how the rogues encircle Za from where he stands...
Once the merchants can no longer hear you, the leader hisses to Za.. "Where have you been insolent creature... What took you so long! We have been waiting here for more than a day! Where's the rest of your sorry bunch! ... "

Stepping out from behind the tree he had been standing behind, Yngvar slide his left foot forward while raising his right hand to shoulder height and extended, By the arcane powers of the Wold, his right foot slides up with a half stomp 6.8 inches parallel to the left, by power bold, his right wrist sweeps forward while his elbow drops close to his body. Simultaneously, Yngvar's left hand traces a rune from his navel to the height of his forehead, 17 inches wide. These missiles bright, his left hand finishes the intricate rune before folding over his right hand creating a small hollow which begins to glow with a silvery light. strike true in light, Yngvar's fore and index fingers splay out, while his ring and pinky fingers stay curled into his fist. Teh glowing ball of silvery light grows until it encompasses his fists. In a practiced movement, he pushes his hands forward, releasing three balls of energy towards the bandits. One magic missile to each bandit.

INCORPORATING RAG POST (forgot it)
Rag gasps as Yngvar releases the magic missiles and immediately follows Asteron after this last one released his arrow... While he moves he digs up another potion and drinks it (mage armor)
DM POST
Za'Skagh'Reed remains through to his role and tries to play it cool now that he's surrounded... He hopes to catch the rogues's attention and interested to what he might have to say...
Yngvar though decides enough is enough... He no longer whishes to wait to see what will happen and instead opens fire straight away. 3 magic missiles strike unerringly... One for each...
The rogues are starteled when suddenly they feel the sting of the magic missiles and draw out their weapons... Rogues 1 and 2 draw rapiers... Rogue 3 already has his punching daggers readied.
Now that his friends have favoured hostilities instead Za still remains true to his disguise!! He actually sends the rogues after Yngvar and the rest who he claims have followed him!! (Great RP'ing Marty!!) He does ready a cunning spell but... It seems the rogues are fooled by Za's disguise!
"Get them!!!", Rogue 3 shouts!
Rogues 1 and 2 spur towards the Rag and Asteron who are rushing towards the rogues also... Yet neither is close enough for striking...
None of the rogues now spend any attention to Za... Toregan remains frozen on the other side of the bridge... Faust too remains in place.
But then Toregan hears movement behind him!! 3 more rogues come out of hiding from the forest edge! They have not detected Toregan who still is invisible. Each of these extra rogues carry a longbow and hurry within range of the players on the other side of the river!
Rogue 5 aims for Rag but misses. Rogue 4 targets Asteron but dispite the size of the barbarian he fails to connect.
Rogue 6 goes after Yngvar hitting the wizard hard in the abdomen... Hits AC 25 - damage 10 HP

"Kill that Kobold!!" Asteron roars to preserve the succes of the illusion. With a growl of rage he steps forward, swings his mighty steel in a wide arc and slashes through the rogue's leather armor... R2 sinks to his knees folding his hands in front of the large wound but blood just gushes through his fingers... Eyes wide in a bewildered frighthened stare he falls by Asteron's mad rage...
Toregan smiles as now all the thugs seem to have come into play... He directly attacks R5 with his own longbow and so dispells his invisibility... He steps onto the bridge a bit closer to his friends.
The feeble attempt to make R3 lower any magic defenses has an inverted effect... "... He speaks too well common..." R3 thinks. Next Za summons a magic shield in front of him... "....magic?!.... "
Faust too does his best to preserve the illusion although R3 has serious doubts. Following suit with Yngvar he sends a magic missile towards the rogues. Seeing R2 is down already he aims for R3 instead delivering a darn painful missile up the rogue's behind...
Rag is happy to dance with the rogues and hits R1 in the face... The blow itself isn't particulary painnful but is enough to stun the rogue. He drops his rapier and stands defenseless in front of the fighting monk.
Suddenly a sleet storm thunders over the archer on the other side of the bridge... They are hidden from sight now... R4 manages to move at half speed... Both R5 and R6 fall to the ground and are unable to move. All they can try is to scramble back to their feet.
You have managed to incapacitate practically all rogues! All but their leader R3. He sees how the sleet storm engulfs his ranged protection, how one of his fighters goes down and the other one just drops his weapon... He looks at Za'Skagh'Reed and says: "You... You brought them here! DIE!! ..." And with that he hurls himself towards Za but perhaps due to the illusion he fails to hit Za...

Where Asteron misses, Za doesn't! With a perfect swing, well aimed and critically deadly... the rogue leader sinks to his knees... both dagger fall from his hands... then he plunges onto the bridge face first cracking his nose and opening up his jaw...
Za urges the rest of the rogues to give up. Their leader has fallen so there's no use to keep fighting... But dispite his succes, the half-drow can feel the effect of the poison creeping in his body... strength seems to fade... and he realises this could be deadly...
Toregan whinces in pain as an arrow finds blood... Rag further pummels the rogue in front of him... as this one too sees his leader down he retreats 5 ft (avoiding an AoO) and then bruised and battered turns tail and run...
Faust doubles up behind Asteron to prepare an attack for next round.
R5 emerges from the Sleet Storm... checks his surroundings... sees Toregan and fires... the effect from the Sleet Storm causes the archer to miss. R4 is surprised when suddenly R5 steps into his line of fire... he makes a 5 ft step and then again aims for Toregan but also misses...

None the less he sneers to the rogue : "Stop running and surrender! Intimidate -1 ... COOL!!
(Sean) Toregan Dondarin AC 18/14/14 -- CMD 19 -- HP 38/38 d20+10=15 ; d8+3=10 ; Wednesday August 28th, 2013 3:11:20 PM I moved to Y11 last turn. I think the map wasn't updated with that.
Toregan quickly moves across the bridge, sending an arrow of his own at his foes. He makes sure to put himself out of Asteron's path, knowing that he'll do best when he can get close to the enemy. "They're all yours Asteron! Bring 'em down quick!"
Attack w/ Longbow (+10): 15 Damage (1d8+3): 10
Move to T10

Asteron moves up behind Za'Reed (I moved you forward along with Za whoom I forgot to reposition on the map last turn) but is still blocked by Za from attacking the archers. Za charges R5 and almost severs his arm from his body... (Marty, please add your Bastard Sword to your weapon section on your char sheet and do check the +7 damage - also remember to mark the STR loss on your sheet which does affect both your attack and damage rolls - can you check your rolls accordingly please? Not quite clear how you end up with that +11 to attack and +9 to damage... Thanks!)
Yngvar releases a bolt but it goes wide...
Ragnarök chases the rogue who tries to get away... he circles around and attempts to grapple him yet he almost falls himself! The rogue laughs at the feeble bluff attempt by the Monk... surely Rag's charisma isn't his forte... The rogue again retreats and makes a run for it in the forest. Once there he attempts to hide... (stealth check 17 - counter that if you want to chase and find him...)
Toregan (indeed position also not updated last map - something must have gone wrong for I'm dead certain I did move ya :-/ ) fires an arrow and clears the path for the raging Minotaur. His arrow flies way past any potential target and was closer to Za than it was to any Rogue...
R4 sees his companions go down one by one... he aims one last arrow at Za HITS AC29 (Crit not confirmed) damage 3HP . Next he turns around and makes a run for it... he follows the open trail between the trees Eastward...
R6 struggles in the Sleet Storm (last round) to get out (you don't know where he is atm)
Looks like Boss Wathe isn't paying these lads enough to hang around long enough to die...
ADM StevenVdB Wednesday August 28th, 2013 5:43:04 PM
Za'Reed again make another FORT DC 14 check - failure means 1d2 STR damage

Yngvar reloads and waits. (It doesn't look like he can see anyone.) Not that his second shot has a chance of hitting anyone.
Out of curiousity, all the rogues that got caught in the sleet storm made survival checks to not get turned around and wander into the river? Especially those knocked prone...

Just in case, he does chant some incantations and motions for a Magic Missile, in case it's needed.
Move Action to W12 or so.
Readying an action to fire Magic Missiles against R6 if he's still around when the sleet goes away. That said, if others do enough damage to him, will diverge 1 or more missiles to avoid killing him; hitting for a total of 12 (force) damage.

Asteron shouts. He does not have his bow with him, so he can't attack from range, and he is too far from the running thug to be of any use.
He then moves to place himself just outside the storm, waiting for it to end. There is still one enemy in it... and Asteron's blade is longing for more blood...

Rag expresses his frustration as the Rogue runs of in the woods... still he's not that far so he estimates his chances to get to him quite acceptable... He enters the woods exactly where the rogue entered... goes 20ft, 30 ft, up to 40 ft and looks around. OMG Perception 16 ARGHH ...
Somehow it seems the rogue just vanished from sight! Suddenly the Monk feels quite vurnerable... he should have known that chasing a rogue is bound for getting into trouble...

This battle turns out to be quite odd... the rogues scatter away in different direction and even the Cthonians are scattered acros the bridge... some rush around chasing rogues, others dart away in the forest... one goes forward while the other retreats...
With no obvious targets anymore Yngvar waits for the Sleet Storm to disperse... he has one shot readied for if another rogue is still caught in there. (I just made them run in random directions) Like Yngvar, Faust too steps onto the bridge hoping to catch any trapped rogues once the storm fades...
Asteron urges anyone to get the one who is running away East... he might go warn Town or worse he might gone for reinforcements!! Get him quick!! Too late to go after him by himself Asteron waits also for the storm to pass.
Ragnarök is quite optimistic as he darts into the woods to chase the one getting away to the West... didn't someone explain him that rogues are experts when it comes to getting away?!? Besides... isn't that making the Monk quite vurerable now to a sneak retalliation from the Rogue?? Would that be ' bad judgement' or just 'over confidence' ?
Za feels the poison eating away his strength and senses a wobble in his knees. Please make the FORT DC14 check from last turn AND another one for this turn! Still the poison races through his veins. What if it reaches his heart?! Not knowing exactly what poison it is that is ravaging his body it's difficult to see the consequenses. Is this the moment where the Drow should normally start panicking??
Toregan tries to oversee this weird battle. It seems like nothing has gone the way it should... But he realises that Za's disguise has thouroughly disrupted an ambush that could have been far worse!!
Rag's overconfidence prooves to be too much... the Rogue turns up behind him and catches the Monk Flat Footed! HITS AC 19 damage 5 + 10 Sneak Attack!! "Wrong place wrong time! the Rogue slithers to Rag.
The Sleet Storm dissapears just as fast as it came... suddenly R6 sees where he is again. He looks around in fright trying to understand what just happened. This moment of hesitation might proove to be fatal if he's not careful!! Immediately after the Sleet Storm clears the view Faust releases his magic missiles hitting the archer in the back... The Archer turns around, knocks an arrow and retalliates! He hits Faust for 7HP. Then he just turns tail and runs into the forest... vanishing from sight... only the birds that flutter unto the sky by being disturbed tell you he's also heading East.

Toregan's eyes narrow as he sees one of the rouges dart down the path and darts back across the bridge, preparing to fire one more shot at the cowardly bandit. He draws the string back and releases the arrow towards the fleeing rouge. Not even waiting to watch the arrow fly, he turns his attention to the vegetation the other bandit disappeared into. "Damn! We'll get them, don't worry. We'll just have to track them down quickly," he calls out to the group. "Somebody get to Rag. I think he chased one of them into the forest on the other side of the bridge! I've got a wand of healing, so I'll patch up anyone who needs it before we go."
Move to X12 If R4 is denied his dex bonus because he's running, Toregan would get sneak attack, so I'll roll that just in case. Attack w/ Longbow (+10): 18 Damage (1d8+3): 8 Sneak attack (1d6): 2 Perception (+9): 25

Za grunts as he fights off the stubborn poison still coursing through his veins, What is this vile stuff.. he thinks as he hears Asteron calling to chase down the rogue thats probably heading to town, or at the least getting away. He drops his sword to the ground as he takes off east following the archer. Turning his head ever so slightly to grab his bow and an arrow as he runs, he turns back to front just in time to see the arrow in route for his face. He's just able to cock his head to the side for the arrow to only graze his cheek instead of planting itself within his eye. Screaming in drow You'll pay for that you rat!
He watches an arrow speed past him aimed for the fleeing rogue as well, but not one to take chances, as soon as he gets a clear shot at the rogue (R4) he mutters Chakra once again, allowing the dark brown oak bow energize with the same blue magic as his sword does, the arrow receiving the same treatment. Only after that split second does he let it fly. He watches the arrow fly wide and screams in outrage, knowing the cutthroat will get away! Pulling from deep within himself, his heroic heart giving him the speed and energy to unleash yet another arrow. This one with true aim. Burying itself into the archers back, hopefully deep enough to puncture a lung, or with enough force to crack his spine. I've a few minor cuts, wouldn't mind being patched if it's a wand for such wounds. If its for more serious wounds then save it's charges for someone else or when I really need them Tor. Can anyone of you all track well enough to follow them through the denser forest? He asks, hoping his target falls from his and Toregans arrows.

Asteron snorts, and lets the rage leave him, starting to feel very, very tired. Slowly, as he can't move too quickly, he goes back through the bridge and picks up his bow.
"I am fine. But that does not mean we are safe. Those that ran away may bring reinforcements. Thoughts? Should we setup our own ambush, or should we continue forward?"

"We keep on going as far as we can!!", boldly states Faust as he chases down the rogue that fled through the road, "Quickly, this one's the most likely cause us trouble!!"
I'm unsure if by movint to AC12 Faust would have line of sight to R4; if yes, then Move Action to AC12, followed by a Standard Action to cast Magic Missile at him, hitting for 15 (force) damage.

So he just raises his fist and hopes to get some sense into this idiot... if words don't work he'll just have to bash him to reason. You'll pay for that you rat!, Za curses....
"Damn! " , Toregan hisses...
The three of them move into tactical positions to aim deadly arrows at the Rogue who is running away East (R4). Two nicely planted arrows slow down the rogue in his escape but they are insufficient to immobilize him. One arrow sticks into his tigh... the other sticks into his shoulder... less than an inch above the heart. He staggers... almost falls... but keeps in going in dispair but it is the magic missile that Faust sends after him that makes him go down... he falls forward, stumbles, rolls sideways and crashes into a small tree trunk... (R4 is dead)
Toregan also checks for some assistance to go after Rag... he dissapeared into the woods chasing another rogue. Once his arrow is sent flying after R4 he checks with his friends to see if anyone is in need of healing.
Asteron is too tired for the chase and backtracks towards the bridge hoping to come up with some plan to get after the runnaways. As he comes down from a rage he's pretty exhausted.
Ragnarök takes his chances with the Rogue he chased... him coming out of hiding was a stupid thing to do and Rag retalliates the sneak attack with three well planted fists... the light fades for R1 as he just passes out. Black and blue but alive and well... The Monk takes the rogue by his hands and drags him into the clearing to his friends...
R6 clears the area and dissapears into the woods...

As he finishes Za's treatment, he takes notice of Rag's bloodied form coming out of the forest, carrying the body of the rouge who thought to best him. He rushes over to his side and quickly proceeds to heal his wounds with the wand. "Damn Rag, you got the hell beat out of you. Next time try not to let them get an advantage over you." Satisfied that Rag's wound have almost all healed up, he puts the wand back in his pack, and moves to the forest to pick up the rogue's trail. "Someone tie up that one. He shouldn't slow us down and we'll come back for the bodies later. Right now we need to follow the one who fled and try to catch him before word of us can get back to Waithe. The more proof we have that Waithe has been attacking us the better."
