Happy, Shiny People - DM Donna Saturday August 17th, 2013 12:53:04 PM
Coer, Shemeska and Spire are staying on the dock by the ship, with the non-Taur crew members poking around for signs of Annoir and/or the Iron Hull.
Jozhzur, Kane' and Zeoll are actively checking out the immediate dock areas, searching for likely-looking people who may be able to help them, as well as a non-Taur hangout that Captain Annoir may probably have at least visited.
Shemeska and Spire only need to search for a few minutes before they happen upon a familiar-looking ship that is docked a few hundred yards or so off one of the end piers: the Iron Hull. Clearly the crew of that ship chose to use the longboat method of coming ashore rather than draw close enough for a gangplank landing.
Coer, meanwhile, cannot help but notice the pointed glances and flared nostrils of many centaurs as they pass by. None of the equinoids confront him (although one or two of them do spit on the ground more or less at his feet when they pass,) but their body language telegraphs exactly what Zeoll warned about: there are a lot of centaurs that do no think very highly of minotaurs.
Zeoll gives Jozhur and Kane' the copper tour, his rusty memory slowly unfolding to prompt the name of a dockside establishment whose carved hanging sign comes into view: The Happy Hippocampus. The sign shows an apparently laughing visage of the legendary seahorse-type creature. Jozhur notes that there seems to be a concentration of non-Taurs at this tavern.
Inside the establishment all manner of beings are grouped at the tables. Most of them are humanoid (humans, elves, half-elfs, half-orcs and the odd halfling, gnome and even a dwarf or two,) but the tavern has centaur waitstaff. One such staffmember--a blonde mare with palomino coloring--trots up to the group with an open smile.
"Welcome to The Happy Hippocampus!" she greets brightly. "We're having a special on our Underhill Stout today--I highly recommend it." Even as the barfilly engages your group's attention, Zeoll's sharp eyes and his nose turn up a few interesting things:
1. His nose tells him that at least one of his kidnappers/shanghai-ers have been to this pub in the last 24 hours. 2. A young centaur appeared briefly in the doorway to the tavern after Zeoll & company entered--the lad with the brown hide and bright blue eyes clearly followed the Lionfish crew to the entrance of the 'Campus but has shied away from entering the pub.
Zeoll (Cayzle) d20+10=21 ; d20+10=24 ; Sunday August 18th, 2013 9:55:20 AM
Zeoll says to Jozhur and Kane, "You guys follow me or stay herre to listen if anyone mentions Annoirr or his crrew. Maybe ask arround if you want. One of his gang has definitely been herre -- I can smell it."
Zeoll makes himself invisible for a moment and quickly gets up to go to the door. He follows the palamino lad. If he can reach him easily, he'll hail him as soon as the invisibility wears off (duration one round) and ask for a moment of his time. (Diplomacy check 21).
If the lad takes off, there is no way for a liontaur to catch a centaur on his native soil, so Zeoll will have to use magic to stop him. If he can run to within 30 feet or so, he'll shout out to the boy, "Come herre! Approach me!" That's a verbal only Command spell he is casting, with a Will save DC of 18. Then he'll use diplomacy to try to get the lad to talk with him.
If the lad has too big of a head start, Zeoll tries to catch his scent and follow by tracking. Survival 24 to follow him.

Kane' isn't able to follow Zeoll when he is invisible, and so the BloodWitch stays at a table at the Hippocampus.
"Yes, ma'am, an Underhill Stout for me." Kane' is proud of himself that he is able to speak clearly and directly to a stranger. It emboldens Kane' to even speak again. "Are there many famous ships that come to Fort Stag?" He feels this is a safe question and hides behind his very real shyness if people start asking questions in return.

If the centaur seems afraid, Zeoll tries to put him at ease, saying, "Look, kid, I'm a frriend. Don't rrun off. Please rrelax."

Good(ish) News - DM Donna Monday August 19th, 2013 11:10:53 PM OUTSIDE THE HAPPY HIPPOCAMPUS:
Zeoll very easily catches up to the brown-flanked centaur teenager (it's the female bartender that's the palomino)--he's more or less "parked" a few yards from the door and very obviously watching it. His demeanor seems to suggest that he's waiting for somebody to come out of the pub. When Zeoll's invisibility wears off and he asks for a moment of the lad's time, the poor young fellow nearly jumps out of his skin.
"Ahhhh!" the centaur yelps, then--after getting over his shock--he sighs and huffs a breath of relief when Zeoll invites him into the pub for a drink.
"We-e-e-ell..." the youngster hedges a bit, "I'm not supposed to be drinking, really...I'm here to haul loads..." His glance over his shoulder shows what Zeoll was missing before: the centaur is harnessed into one of those ubiquitous hauling carts.
"Bu-u-u-ut...Mama says that we're supposed to be nice to our fellow Taurs..." the brown centaur says brightly, unbuckling the harness, "...and I know I can park this outside here--it'll be safe..."
And so, Zeoll has a young companion when he walks back into the tavern.
"By the way," the centaur male says eagerly, "My name's Linos, and--"
JUST THEN, one of Linos' hooves strikes the leg of a chair, knocking it--and its occupant--to the ground.
"Oh, sorry--are you okay???" Linos asks anxiously.

Kane' finds that he's prompted a giggle from the palomino bartender.
"Fort Stag is the only port on the island, so yes...we get a few well-known ships here from time to time..." She trots off to get the drinks, and then Kane' and Johzur witness Zeoll's return with a young centaur lad with a dappled gray hide--as well as the accidental toppling of a fellow patron.
Coer maintains a vigil even as Spire returns to the ship and informs him of his discovery of Captain Annoir's ship anchored just off the far end of the harbor.

DM Question: My character is an archer, so I'm wondering... can I stab someone with an arrow? I think the easiest ruling would be to say that it counts as an improvised weapon to use an arrow in melee. Thoughts?
DM OOC: My instinct is "improvised weapon"...and that the character using the arrow in this manner would always suffer the usual penalty for utilizing a weapon that they were not proficient in...because, let's face it, who in their right mind would waste time learning to manually stab foes with what is supposed to be solely a missile weapon..?

Kane' frowns, that's not the answer he was looking for! But then shrugs, agreeing with himself that he is not the personality to find out information or even talk to pretty girls much either. The half-elf sighs and then gets dumped on his rear by his chair being upended. Looking up from the floor, Kane' sees Zeoll's form and a dapple-gray centaur.
A moment passes before Kane' decides that laying on a tavern floor isn't doing any good, and the bronze-skinned half-elf stands and brushes himself off. The telltale tiny cauldron on a belt loop gives him away as a BloodWitch, one of those that literally are linked to an immortal power. After another moment without an obvious attack or malicious sneer, Kane' decides to keep silent and let the young centaur speak first.

My apologies to Steve/Kane'...I would have posted Kane'es'es (what IS the possessive state of "Kane' "? LOL) name if I had meant that it was Steve's character's chair that had been knocked over.

"'Lem's Shaggy Brow!" he claims as he rolls about the floor to come to his feet and wipe off his clothes. He is talll and broad shouldered with dark tanned skin and darker hair on his head. His skin has the look of being weathered by the sun and by the callouses on his hands he is someone that works for a living. "No worries, colt," she tells him sympathetically, "There's lots more space in the forest than there is inside the pub!"

ABOARD THE LIONFISH:
Coer agrees with Spire's recommendation to have Tula resupply the ship and rotate out the crew for shore leave. Tula confirms that there will be a detail always left aboard the ship to keep watch.
INSIDE THE HAPPY HIPPOCAMPUS:
DM OOC: for the purposes of Centaur Culture, I consider Zeoll's past history makes any Knowledge (Local) checks to actually be trained...after all, Zeoll DID first start his adventuring career attempting to fulfill the edict of Domi and bring all three Taur races back together as was the deity's original intent.
Zeoll's memory is hazy, but he's pretty sure that a Stallion (who can be either male or female) is the head of a Clan, and often the de factor Mayor or Ruler of a given area. It may be worth the party's while to seek out this Stallion Pholus and present their mission to him.
Or they might (as Kane' points out) do better to have Kiril lend his experience on the isle to the service of the Lionfish. Zeoll wisely points out the two possibilities to the other crew members (and Kiril.) Meanwhile, Linos earnestly replies to Zeoll's questions:
"No, friend Wemic, there are no courts as in the two-legger's lands," he answers, "Stallion Pholus is the chief Stallion for Fort Stag. If you have a matter of justice, you must bring it before him so that he may render his decision on it. This is Centaur Law. And--" Linos adds a bit huffily, drawing himself up to his full height, "--I achieved my majority this summer past...I run free and I'm a full-fledged member of the Whistal Watch! I need no nursemaid." He does, however, look a bit sheepish.
"I...I was following you...sort of...because today is my turn at pulling hired loads, and I thought you and your group looked like you would pay good coin. I...uh...I've got my eye on this sweeeet Whistalwood longbow..."
Zeoll's gut reaction is that Linos is being truthful. He can also tell that--although Linos is as proud as any mule-headed Centaur Zeoll's known--the young equinoid isn't really offended by the questions. (At least, not yet.)
Nobody else in the tavern seems to be paying any undue attention to the Lionfish crew members (and Kiril).

"Only place I can think of is the Clearspring Temple," the centaur tells Shemeska and duly trots off towards the place. The cart is actually comfortable and the ride isn't too bouncy, so the trip passes quickly and without incident until the teamster stops in front of the massive tree that houses the Clearspring Temple of Fort Stag. The mighty whishtal towers a good 300 yards into the sky, its trunk about 200 feet around. The sense of timelessness hangs heavy in the air, even as the groups of butterflies, hummingbirds and other colorful winged creatures that flit here and there about the rough-barked structure paradoxically lend the temple a bright, fresh appearance at the same time.
"Here it is!" the centaur announces. "Clearspring Temple! That'll be 5 coppers, if you please..." Even as Shemeska concludes his dealings with his chauffeur, another cart rolls to a stop next to him and out of it climbs Spire--it was the fastest way for Spire to get to a temple that had anything to do with Gargul.
(Don't forget to pay YOUR teamster, too, Spire.)
From here, it is easy to see the soaring, naturally-wrought archway (it's a good twenty feet in both height and width) as well as the guards flanking it: a pair of large, husky centaurs who present large spears at Shemeska's approach.
"Halt--who would enter the Clearspring Temple?" one of them--a centaur with a bald head and white flanks--intones in a deep voice. "And what is your business here?"
INSIDE THE HAPPY HIPPOCAMPUS:
Linos grimaces a bit at Jozhur's question, then snorts in a way that Zeoll recognizes as a suppressed reaction to something that has offended the centaur's sensibilities.
"Keep your money, biped," the centaur said in a tight voice, "I will take you to Stallion Pholus--it is for him to decide whether or not I'll be allowed to help you with your mission." Zeoll knows from his previous dealings that Jozhur's premature offer is considered an attack upon the young centaur's sense of honor, but he also knows that Linos has chosen to more-or-less ignore it so that Stallion Pholus may exercise his authority.
Nobody seems to be paying the group any undue attention according to the perception of Kane'.
COER:
The Minotaur remains watchful on the dock of the bay. He watches the tide roll away.
Zeoll (Cayzle) Monday August 26th, 2013 11:17:05 AM
Zeoll is firm. "We rreally need to stop off at ourr ship beforre we visit the stallion. In fact, we should check back in therre now. Come on along," he says to Linos and Kiril.

Spire nods to the Drow when he climbs out of his cart, pressing a silver into the palm of his driver. He walks to the temple doors, bowing slightly at the guards. "Gentletaur, I simply wish to pray at your temple, and perhaps seek the wisdom of the clerics. I recently became an Eye of Gargul, and wish to speak with others."

The drow gives a slight bow from the waist. "Greetings and felicitations, gentlemen. I am here for a more worldly purpose than this fellow beside me. I was interested in securing a blessing from a priest in this holy house. In my joyful appreciation, I feel that I would be moved to donate of my worldly possessions in the form of a tithe to the upkeep of this sanctuary." Shemeska smiles, pauses a beat, then whispers. "I want to purchase spellcasting services. A non-combat spell. Completely harmless. Would this be agreeable?"
Split Scene - DM Donna Monday August 26th, 2013 8:03:21 PM AT THE CLEARSPRING TEMPLE:
Spire's carter thanks him with a grin and a salute before trotting back towards the docks with his fellow cart-for-hire.
The white-flanked centaur looks from Shemeska to Spire and back.
"Very well, then," he says, nodding to his fellow guard, "I'll escort them inside--you remain at your post." The other centaur stomps his front hooves in acknowledgment and returns to his original position.
"Follow me, bipeds," the white-flanked centaur bids the two Lionfish crew members and leads them to the set of huge double doors, opening them up and walking into the spacious entry chamber beyond.
The room is roughly spherical, measuring about thirty feet in diameter on both its horizontal and vertical axes. It is empty save for the naturally-formed bas-relief that adorns the living walls and the four pedestals that hold 2-foot-diameter globes from which emanates the soft, natural light of the thousands of fireflies that appear to be in each.
"Wait here, please," your escort tells you, "I shall fetch forth one of the temple druids to help you." The guardian centaur trots off briskly, leaving you to gawk at the detailed scenes of a larger-than-normal and very heavily-muscled centaur in various scenes of battle: he fights a giant sea-serpent in one, a fire-breathing dragon in another and takes on a horde of minotaurs in a third scene.
You can't help but notice that the minotaurs in that particular battle scene are depicted in a way that seems to exaggerate the features of the bovinoid warriors, making them look savage and brainless.
AT THE HAPPY HIPPOCAMPUS:
If the party members at the tavern elect to go back to their ship, Linos will agree to go there, too, so that he can provide you all with a ride into Fort Stag proper.

Jozhur stands and follows the rest of the group to the door, rather confused by the centaur's reaction to his offer.
Zeoll (Cayzle) Tuesday August 27th, 2013 7:02:41 AM
Zeoll laughs. "Give the small folk a rride if you like, my frriend. But I will walk beside you."
The old liontaur leads the way back to the ship.

As he thinks, he spots his friends returning from the tavern with a few new faces.
Kane' Ma'Kai (SteveK) AC13/ T13/ F10/ CMD 16(18) HP 47/40 Tuesday August 27th, 2013 7:44:59 AM
Kane' smiles at Zeoll, not offended at all to be called a 'little person'; compared to centaurs, liontaurs, and minotaurs, he is! A question comes to the wise Witch's mind and he cocks his head at Linos as they take the short walk to the pier. "I do not know much about the ways of Centaurs, Linos Sir, and could you tell me if providing cart rides to 'little people' is honorable for the centaur?"
Kiril AC 15/11/14 CMD 18 HP 40/40 Tuesday August 27th, 2013 8:49:12 AM
At the ship, Kiril will watch a moment to pick out the Captain and then move up to introduce himself, "Greetings, Captain. I am Kiril Chantel, sailor and soldier for hire." He raises a hand to gesture towards the others, "These gentlemen asked me if I would like to assist you in your latest endeavor and I would be glad to... and perhaps afterwards take a cot on your ship?"
Spirysn'rar Kilarn (Ian) AC 13/13/11 - CMD 14 - HP 20/20 Tuesday August 27th, 2013 1:53:33 PM

Shemeska HP 54 - AC 19/15/14 - CMD 22 - F+5/R+11/W+2 Tuesday August 27th, 2013 8:13:18 PM
Shemeska clasps his hands behind his back, rocking on his heels and looking about at the art. He looks at Spire. "So, these centaurs, right? Yeah.... Sorry about killing you." He clears his throat and continues looking around. "So you serve Gargul? How's that working out for you?"
Spirysn'rar Kilarn (Ian) AC 13/13/11 - CMD 14 - HP 20/20 Wednesday August 28th, 2013 12:33:09 AM
Spire coughs lightly, scuffing his feet against the floor. "Truthfully... I have no idea what being a cleric of Gargul entails. I never bothered reading up on the Gods much during my studies." The elf is unsure of what else to say. "No harm done with... with the death ordeal, I suppose. I am alive now, after all."
Ships & Spells - DM RobC Wednesday August 28th, 2013 8:08:08 AM Zeoll happily strides side-by-side with Linos, with the others coming up behind - walking and taking the cart. The centaur tries to keep his distance from Zeoll, but the linotaur has other ideas.
Linos keeps his gaze forward as he pulls the cart, but responds to Kane'"I have my reasons for having to pull this cart. The first is to acquire funds to allow me to buy that new bow. The second reason, I'm told, is to teach me some 'humility'" With the final word he gives the cart an extra forcefull pull, as if angered by something.
From his vantage point Coer spots the others making their way back to the ship. As the party pull up and Linos brings the cart to a stop, the centaur gives Coer the same look that one might give on discovering the larder empty: a mixture of frustration, disappointment and perhaps a little anger.
"I wouldn't keep Stallion Pholus waiting if I were you" Linos says, keeping his eyes locked on Coer"He can make things difficult for you if he chooses. Well, more difficult anyway." Linos brushes the hair from his eyes, then holds out an open palm for his payment.
Meanwhile at the Clearspring Temple...
Spire and Shemeska engage in what might be considered awkward conversation, what with Spire's recent death at Shem's hands.
The two are eventually joined by an older male centaur. Grey haired, a short grey beard and wearing a green hooded "robe" (robe may not be the correct word for what a centaur wears, but it is a close description of it).
"I am Master Dohanas" he says with only the slightest of nods to Spire and Shem"I am told you wish to make a donation to our temple in exchange for the casting of a spell. You will explain your request further and in detail" Master Dohanas looks at the two with a stern expression. He is certainly not the jolliest of clerics you have ever met.

Kane' ponders Linos' words and is unsure whether it is wiser to use the cart and pay Linos in order to help him get his new bow, or not use the cart which seems humiliating for the young centaur. When Linos talks about keeping the Stallion waiting, the half-elf has an idea. "I do not want to be the reason you learn humility, but I will pay your full wage if you are our Guide." The half-elf makes a small bag of gold coins to give to Linos at the Stallion's residence.

The Stallion - DM RobC Saturday August 31st, 2013 7:20:19 AM Shem and Spire pay the Cleric for his services. No sooner has the coin landed in the taurs hand than he nods and quickly departs with his guard in tow.
Zeoll and Jozhur try to gain a better understanding of centaur protocol. Linos sighs audibly to Zeoll, but seems to pay no disrespect to Jozhur. "Each tribe has its own Stallion. Here, Stallion Pholus's word is law. When addressing him, I would suggest always using his formal title as a sign of respect. Oh, and the linotaur and minotaur would do best to stay towards the rear of your group. Our races do not exactly see eye to eye as you may have noticed."
When the party are ready, Linos leads you to meet the great Stallion himself. Stallion Pholus is found wandering the markets. Whereas other centaurs give the party a wide berth and sneer at the taurs in the party, Pholus stands firm with his hands placed on his forequarters (the centaur equivalent of hands on hips). His dark hair is starting to show streaks of grey, but his form is still one of a warrior.
"I had heard a Minotaur had landed here but had to see for myself" He addresses the party in common, whilst looking Coer and Zeoll up & down, paying little attention to the rest of the party. Kane' is intimidated at the Stallion putting his full attention on the little half-elf. But he screws up his courage, understanding that Coer's authority and Zeoll's silver tongue will not help here on Centaur Isle.
"Please sir, but can I ... disagree with you? I have never known the Lionfish to sail only for gold, but for Justice. Captain Annoir has led many to be his dupes and has much blood on his hands. Most recently, the Lionfish uncovered a plot of his that led ships to a false shipwreck. The ambush there was from sea creatures that sank the ships and ate the crew. We stopped the scheme, and Captain Annoir rewarded us by having another of his lieutenants attack and nearly killed all of us."
Kane' glances at Coer for encouragement, turns back to Stallion Pholus, and continues. "The Lionfish seeks permission from the Stallion of Fort Stag that we may freely confront and take Captain Annoir and any on his ship and not get in trouble with your authority. We... I am willing to perform a service for you to demonstrate our dedication to Justice."
Very diffident, Kane's wisdom is offset by his extreme uncomfortableness at public speaking. He is not smooth enough to convince anyone with diplomacy or stretching the truth, so he doesn't try to persuade the Stallion by anything but the truth.

Stallion Pholus seems to take some time to respond to Kane', weighing each of his words carefully. "I will need to consult with my fellow Corral members on this matter. Kane' waits for Stallion Pholus to leave before he starts sweating and shaking in after-affect. Not another word can he get out as he follows the others out and to whither they go.
Zeoll (Cayzle) Thursday September 5th, 2013 11:30:58 AM
Zeoll grins at Kane. "You did grreat, my frriend!" he declares.
He turns to their centaur guide. "Good Linos, will you guide us again? My rrecall of the lorre of plants herre tells me that alamine rroot is good for hurrting whistal trrees and helping upset tummies. We need to know why Annoirr would seek it out. Zeoll loses himself in his thoughts for a moment, trying to recall things he knew long long ago ... "What was his name?" he mutters. "Hollytone? Hollyberrry? Hollyhound?"
He turns again to Linos, and to Coerr. "Good captain, may I suggest we rreturrn to ourr ship, pick up the rrest of ourr crrew, and then all togetherr seek out some herrbal lorre. Linos - DM Donna Thursday September 5th, 2013 12:24:44 PM
The young centaur looks a bit startled at Zeoll's question.
"Hollyhocks is the head of the order at Clearspring Temple," he explains. "He became so when High Priestess Winnowill was called to run with Domi a few years back..."

Shemeska clears his throat. "I have another suggestion, if the crew would care to hear. I procured this at the market." He holds up the single adamantine arrow he purchased. "This is adamantine, one of the strongest materials in the Wold, and easily capable of cutting through iron or steel. Such as an anchor chain. I also purchased a spell to grant me the ability to breathe water for several hours. With my natural darkvision, I propose that I dive into the harbor and cut loose their anchor. I can take a length of cable or rope from the Lionfish, and we can tow the ship out of the harbor without any difficulty. Their ship will only have a skeleton crew while the rest are on shore leave. If Captain Annoir is aboard, we can easily take him with little resistance. If he is ashore, then he no longer has a means of escape."
(Mark) Coerator AC 17/16/14 -- CMD 21 -- HP 43/47 Thursday September 5th, 2013 9:35:39 PM "Well... what a devious plan. The stallion said we could not arrest Annoir... but he did not say we could not steal his ship.
That said... if the Corral find Annoir to be an ally of Fort Stag, we may bring an army down upon us."
Zeoll (Cayzle) Friday September 6th, 2013 6:40:10 AM
OOC: Assuming we are all together again ... so Shem and Spire are back with the group.
Zeoll grins from ear to ear. "What a grreat idea! I love it!"
But since we should wait for nightfall to do it, for now let's go see if we can talk with Hollyhocks for some info.
Kane' Ma'Kai (SteveK) AC13/ T13/ F10/ CMD 16(18) HP 47/40 Friday September 6th, 2013 10:25:56 AM
Kane' clears his throat after regaining some composure. Talking with an impressive stranger has made it easier to speak with friends. "I think that we should all stay at the Mothering Mare like Stallion Pholus suggested. If we don't get permission, then we can try something else."
He thinks for a moment and then continues. " Of course, if this is a trap for Annoir to ambush us at the Mothering Mare, we will have to just defend ourselves, yes?"
(Brock) Jozhur AC19/14/15--CMD 16--HP 43/43 Friday September 6th, 2013 2:03:32 PM "For now it may be best to wait. I imagine such actions would anger the Stallion. I think we will be granted permission to capture him...but on the chance that we aren't, that sounds like a good plan."
Spirysn'rar Kilarn (Ian) AC 13/13/11 - CMD 14 - HP 20/20 Friday September 6th, 2013 2:43:22 PM "I only hesitate with that plan because I do not wish to incur the wrath of the corral. We may already be in their bad books." The elf shoots a not-so-subtle glance at the minotaur in their group. "Let us wait for their answer, but keep an eye out on Annoir's ship. If it looks as though they are preparing to leave, we strike." Spire points out where he saw The Iron Hull earlier.

Kiril AC 15/11/14 CMD 18 HP 40/40 Saturday September 7th, 2013 7:41:14 PM

DM Donna OOC: I put your normal header in for the post, but my strong suggestion is that, in the future, you're going to want to take an extra moment to read the post you're making in order to straighten out the various substitutions that Auto-Correct seems to be putting into your post.
Planning - DM RobC Sunday September 8th, 2013 8:06:19 AM
The party plan their next move.
Shem speaks up with a plan to cut the Iron Hull free from its anchor and then tow the ship out of the harbor. (Hero Point to Shem for a very creative suggestion!)
Unfortunately there may be a few small items to be ironed out: Highlight to display spoiler: { Cutting the chain: Though admantine can cut through iron or steel, it only bypasses the hardness NOT the HP. An iron or steel anchor chain would have 30HP/inch of thickness. How thick would the anchor chain be? The notes on smashing objects state "generally, you can smash an object only with a bludgeoning or slashing weapon." and underwater combat rules have slashing weapons doing half damage underwater. Furthermore, would the sound of metal against metal draw attention?
Using an Arrow as a weapon to cut the chain: An arrow used as a melee weapon is treated as a light improvised weapon (--4 penalty on attack rolls) and deals damage as a dagger of its size. Does this negate the rule that "ammunition that hits its target is destroyed or rendered useless"? }
Coer seems undecided. He wisely notes that if Annoir is an ally of Fort Stag at the moment (and Zeoll's hunch from earlier indicates it is likely he is) then taking a hostile act against the Iron Hull may bring down the wrath of the Centaur Navy. And though the Lion Fish is fast, how fast would it be towing another ship?
Kane suggests heeding the word of the Stallion. He did, after all, very clearly state " You are to remain within the confines of the Fort". What would it say of the party if their first act in a neutral port is to try and steal a ship and its crew within the first day? What sort of lies would the silver-tongued Annoir be able to make out of that "evidence"?
Wardd does favor those who take risks. Gargul often does not.
The party continue the debate...
(Brock) Jozhur AC19/14/15--CMD 16--HP 43/43 Monday September 9th, 2013 12:32:30 AM "Well, Shemeska's approach is certainly more flavorful. Maybe we could sabotage Annoir's vessel in a more...subtle manner. Something to slow his escape should he make it aboard."
(Mark) Coerator AC 17/16/14 -- CMD 21 -- HP 43/47 Monday September 9th, 2013 8:49:22 AM "I will head to the Mare to be seen. A Minotaur is a rare sight and will make an easy alibi if our actions over the next few hours.
Shem, if you can think of a way to make the plan work, without incriminating the Lionfish then you have my support. "
Zeoll (Cayzle) Monday September 9th, 2013 9:39:40 AM
Zeoll makes sure that no one except the party is listening in on this conversation. "Shem, those of us who met with the Stallion arre committed to going to this taverrn and waiting in porrt. Zeoll reminds the ones who visited the Stallion of the obligation we are under: "We cannot leave the Porrt, And we have to be at the Motherring Marre tomorrrow, so we had betterr spend the night therre or get therre plenty earrly. Howeverr, I want to go to the Clearrsprring Temple, to meet a drruid I once knew, in the hope he can give us morre info. Will the grroup come with me?"

DM: An anchor chain for a mid-sized schooner would not be thicker than an inch thick. Minimum damage is 1hp regardless, so I would just need to take my time.
I'm not using the arrow as ammunition, so it would not seem that rule would apply. But would it be possible to just break the shaft off of the arrow and use it as a file?
Planning - DM RobC Tuesday September 10th, 2013 9:13:23 AM Jozhur seems in favor of some measure of sabotage.
Zeoll reminds the others of their obligations, but wants to visit the Clearspring Temple first (OOC: To be played and posted courtesy of DM Donna!)
Coer declares his intention to head to the Mothering Mare, but pledges support to Shem's plan if he can find a way not to incriminate the group. Kane' and Kiril keep him company.
The Mothering Mare is a quiet tavern. Very few patrons (all centaur) are in attendance. Perhaps this was the reason the Stallion chose this particular venue? The barkeep stamps a hoof three times on seeing Coer, and the others turn their heads to see the newcomers. You recognise Linos by a taur sized table gesturing for you to join him.
------
OOC: @Shem: I'm not saying it couldn't be attempted - even accomplished. I had considered whether the arrow head vs a chain would fall under the "Ineffective Weapons: Certain weapons just can't effectively deal damage to certain objects ... Likewise, most melee weapons have little effect on stone walls and doors, unless they are designed for breaking up stone, such as a pick or hammer." Given Shem is a Sharpshooter I think it reasonable to give him particular skill with arrows, so would happily go in your favor and call a hand-held arrow an effective weapon vs a chain - even underwater.
I just wanted to give you some food for thought before attempting it. Any and all options are available to players, and you have received a hero point for your very creative thinking. How - or if - you proceed is entirely up to you now :)
Zeoll (Cayzle) Tuesday September 10th, 2013 9:27:40 AM
Zeoll gives up his idea of visiting the old druid for now. So he goes with the group to the tavern, greets Linos when he gets there, and wonders a little bit about why a cart-jockey just happens to be following them around everywhere. Maybe he is an agent of the Stallion, set the task of keeping an eye on the group?
The old liontaur nods to Linos and helps shepherd the group toward the table. "Arre we going to have any trrouble herre, given that we have no centaurrs in ourr grroup?" he asks Linos.

Kane' walks into the Mothering Mare and looks around, quickly seeing that there are only centaurs here and they also do not like the mere presence of his Captain. The half-elf ducks his head shyly and all but slinks to the table where Linos is at, too cowed to even attempt to ask for food or drink.
Kane' tries to keep a sharp eye out for any sign of Captain Annoir or his machinations, not really knowing what to look for other than other non-centaur presences. .............

Shemeska gives an overly formal bow to his fellow sailors. "Gentlemen, I shall abscond to the crow's nest for the time being. In eight hours I will prepare the ropes for towing. In nine hours I will go and take a swim." He begins climbing, stopping halfway up the main mast and looking out over the horizon and holding the ropes with one arm. He reaches out, as though touching the waters from a distance. "Roll on, thou deep, and dark blue ocean." He smiles, and completes his climb to the crow's nest.

Jozhur grabs a seat at the table with the others. He gets a drink, but keeps quiet. This wouldn't exactly be his first choice in drinking establishments. He keeps his eyes open, watching for trouble. (Perception: 15)
Planning - DM RobC Wednesday September 11th, 2013 9:52:55 AM Shem advises the others of his plans and time schedule, before getting comfortable in the crows nest. Well, as comfortable as one can get in a crows nest. He takes a vantage point where he can keep a watchful eye on the Iron Hull
----------------------
Meanwhile in the Mothering Mare...
Zeoll asks if the group should expect any trouble here. "I wouldn't think so. People that come to this tavern usually do so to keep to themselves" Linos responds, as he signals to the barman for a round "Besides, if every tavern in a port gave trouble to newcomers it would be bad for local business and trade"
Kane' and Jozhur note that unlike the rest of the port, noone seems to be paying much attention to the party here - even Coer barely got a second glance after his entrance.
There are few seats in the tavern, the centaurs not having much need for them.
Spire fits a small stool (that may or may not collapse under his weight) and sits quietly and eyes the patrons. His knowledge of centaur culture is that they can become boorish and aggressive after a few drinks. The centaurs here though are more sullen. Perhaps they just haven't had enough to drink yet?
The bartender - balding and burly (even by centaur standards) - brings around a tray laden with centaur sized mugs and places one mug in front of each of you before returning to his bar.
"I must say I'm surprised you haven't gotten in any trouble so far" Linos says raising his mug and taking a small sip of its contents "Still, you have only been here less than a day" He smiles and seems much more friendly and relaxed than he did earlier.
Zeoll (Cayzle) Wednesday September 11th, 2013 9:52:55 AM
Zeoll reminds his friends that they have arrived at the Mothers Mare something like 12 hours early. The Stallion said to be here tomorrow. What are we doing here until then?
He whispers so that only his friends can hear. "Maybe we should think of a way to help Shem in his idea. Orr visit the drruids as I suggested. Orr should we just get rrooms and stay herre forr the night?"
Kane' Ma'Kai (SteveK) AC13/ T13/ F10/ CMD 16(18) HP 47/40 Wednesday September 11th, 2013 10:04:03 AM
Kane' thinks back on what Stallion Pholus told the Lionfish crew, and slowly nods. "You are right, Zeoll Sir. The Stallion did say he would meet us here tomorrow and that we were to remain in Fort Stag. I was hoping to get a room for the night and simply wait here."
In a more whispering voice Kane' lets out some fears. "I am very worried that any action against the person we are looking for before we get permission from the Stallion will result in us being the bad guys. Independent actions are still the responsibility of the Captain, and he could end up in prison."
Kiril AC 15/11/14 CMD 18 HP 40/40 Wednesday September 11th, 2013 9:00:32 PM
Kiril takes a pull from his mug and pulls out a handkerchief from his pocket to dab at his mouth with before nod in agreement with Kane'. "It is likely that any reason to jail the Captain would be welcomed. The Centaur's are an honorable folk and would not make up a charge, but if there was one with merit levied against a Minotaur it would be taken seriously. "
He gestures his nod towards Zeoll, "I think Zeoll may have the better idea for now. If Annoir is truly out gathering weeds there must be a reason for it and no one else would know better than the druids."
Zeoll (Cayzle) Wednesday September 11th, 2013 9:12:24 PM
Zeoll feels antsy. And Kiril's words get him moving. He rises to his feet.
"Well, frriends, stay herre if you like, but since we have the time, I am going to seek out the drruids. All are welcome, please, to join me."
The greymane liontaur adds, mostly for Coer, "Besides, Hollyhocks was everr a frriend to all taurrs, even to minotaurrs. Come and meet him, Captain."
OOC to Shem -- that goes forr you, too, my frriend. If you arre killing time forr eight hourrs, then why not do so with us? Perrhaps the drruids will have something that will interrest you as well, and why not?

The party talk openly in front of Linos who does raise an eyebrow at a few of the comments. He chuckles to himself and enjoys some more wine.
At Zeoll's suggestion, the party decide to seek out the druid Hollyhocks. Shem, too, decides to put his plan on hold for a few hours at least and rejoins the group.
