Harvest Moon (AC22/Touch21/FF17; CMD 24; HP HP 27/34) - Al  d20+15=20 ;
Sunday August 11th, 2013 12:26:55 PM

It was with great relief that Harvest Moon had stepped away from The Mother's body after ministering to her condition. Not dead after all. All things die. But to have died while under their protection felt so very much like a terrible failure.

And yet ...

"This is not finished." A grim visage paints the face of Harvest Moon as the Catfolk rush to celebrate. They are innocent. As the animals, they do not think to the future. "We must follow," she says to her fellow League Adventurers. "We must find their camp. Perhaps there we will find something which speaks of who sent these Green Skins to attack the people and why they were sent."

"These Green Skins are not of this island. Think of how difficult it was for us to come here. And yet the Green Skins are here in many numbers. How did they come? How did they come without the knowledge of any from Rum? How did they pass the many Beastlords to come from the short to the center of the island?"

Harvest Moon calls for a minor blessing, and many gallons of water appear in the air above her head, falling down to drench her and wash away much of the blood-soaked mud upon her. She wipes both her hands and then her face, removing the scent of blood. Then, "I go." That is all she says before starting off on the trail of the Green Skins.

Gerox nods at Harvest Moon's statement and says, "Your are right my gallant and brave friend but it isn't going to happen tonight. We need time to heal and refresh. We are at the end of our rope and another battle could finish us."

Gerox will move over to the ettin leader and check to make sure his is dead and then he will search him and the other slain foes for loot and treasure.

"Stop" Edson says to Harvest louder then he wanted to. "Stop with this death wish of yours. Your young and you have a long life ahead of you but it's going to be cut real short if you keep running head long into every situation. Brom, Barry, Gerry, Me and you almost died a few times this night, and you want to go off and let these animals finish the job. Stop going with your heart and use your brain. We bandage up, get some rest, and in the morning we go to their camp and I swear to you, on everything Hert believes in, that I will slice everyone of their throats myself. These wretches are dumb orks who probably left an obvious path to follow. If you want to keep going, do it. But your doing it without me, and I'll make sure to bury you somewhere nice."

The Battle had left Barratore alive, which was always a positive thing, and hungry, which he looked to remedy. Some of The People had died, but they had died defending their homes and in battle. Now was a time to celebrate life, the ones still living and the lives of those now gone. Barratore finds a large melon and moves to Harvest.
"The giants blazed a trail even i can follow. Darkness is coming. We did not search the island in the direction they have come from. Another Beastlord might lie there." He hands her the sweet ripe melon. "Celebrate and learn the lives of the fallen tonight."

Barratore, having said far more than he thought he would when we walked over turns to and finds Brom. Handing the man a drink he holds his aloft, "To another night."

Even after the battle, Hert has a lot of work to do. First, he finds his backpack, takes out some bandages and takes care of the wounds he cannot cure completely yet. Cleaning every wound on every injured adventurer, and then applying an appropriate bandage takes a lot of time and effort. He barely finds time to attend to catfolk burial to send a prayer to Gargul that their journey to the other side is calm and safe.

When Harvest Moon decides to go scout for Greenskins, Hert shakes his head in disbelief.

"What!? You can't be serious! We've been barely saved today, we are half dead, exhausted, and now we are supposed to take on more of their forces? Impossible! I'm not going there! I have so much work to do here! I have rituals to perform, I have wounds to tend, I absolutely have to send my prayers today!" - he keeps talking and talking in a high-pitched voice. In a short while, he calms down though.

"Listen... We're not winning anything by going today. It is unwise and stupid. Are you willing to risk so much to gain so little? I am not."

The melon looks delicious and Harvest Moon accepts it gratefully.

"Oo thtay!" With a mouthful of melon, she points at the other League Adventurers. "I koh."

"Oth pftbthhh bthepnfff ... " With her eyes full of the need to speak, she chews in silence until the mouthful of melon is gone.

"You stay. I will go. I will not fight them," she says at last. "If they wish to flee, they may go. But they may not take with them the things of the camp. I will follow. I will watch. I will return later."

"Eat. Drink." She shoo's the League Adventurers away. "I will return soon." And Harvest Moon strikes out on the trail of the Green Skins. This time, however, she has a slice of melon.

With that said Brom chugs his drink.

"Ahh...let her go." Brom says aloud as Harvest wants to trudge off into the darkness at dusk. "She wants to meet Gargul, that is her choice. Harvest Moon is not satisfied with the victory and informs the others of her intention to hunt down the enemy camp in search of answers. Gerox agrees that it is a good idea, but rest is needed first. Edson is more vocal, admonishing Harvest's headstrong attitude. Barratore tells Harvest to sit and celebrate before taking some wine and toasting with Brom. Edson has his hands full tending wounds when he hears harvest's plan, and makes sure everyone knows of disapproval. Likewise Peza disapproves and asks Harvest to stay. Brom is dismissive of the plan but recommends harvest stay and drink.

There is no convincing Harvest Moon. She is determined to find answers and melon in hand walks into the darkness.
The others were right. There was no subtly from the orcs this day. A trail has been carved, trampled and uprooted in the haste to destroy The People. Harvest makes her way silently through the night.

The catfolk eat and drink and begin to tell stories of those who have fallen and many tell of glimpses of battle seen from the hut. This will be a story passed down through the generations.

Gerox confirms the Large Ettin is dead and begins the task of looting it and the other corpses. The Giant is well armoured and his weapons are of a high quality, unlike the rest. He was clearly an impressive and cruel leader, and he appears to be the only corpse not bearing the two headed coat of arms.

Loot from the corpses:

1x Ishgaran Headband of Intelligence
1x potion of invisibility

It cannot be far. It must be within a day.

Harvest Moon produced a holy light to guide her through the dark hours of dusk, then extinguished it as the moon and stars came out to guide her. She follows the tracks. Would the tracks of the fleeing Green Skins follow the same path that the League Adventurers had used to arrived here? Would it take the fork back to their camp? Or would the fleeing Green Skins, with their leaders gone, now flee to a different place?

She would fight the pain and the weariness. She would find the camp.

The human warrior was willing to go off on his own and so why not let another if they wished to. The others upset him and to them snorted and with a grunt trotted off after the woman. She was not Brom and couldn't take of herself as he could and now she is wounded where before he was not.

Gerox lugs the loot to the main group and tells them that some of it is magic but they would have to get it identified (roleplaying here) before they knew the true value. He isn't real concerned with Harvest and Barratore going off to track the orcs. They were both smart enough to track the others and not get into trouble.

He hopes.

After listening to some stories, Gerox can soon be found curled up in a small ball, his head on his arm and soft snores whistling out of his nose.

In the valley:
The celebration of the departed's lives continues long into the night. You eat your fill and drink deeply. Whether concerned for Barratore or angry at Harvest, you take the time needed to rest and relax. The catfolk continue to wait on you bringing mats and cushions to aid in your comfort. Gerox takes the chance to have a sleep, exhausted from battle.

Young Mother sits with you and asks, "We, The People, wish to rrrepay your kindness. Is there anything we can do, or offer in rrreturn?"

In the jungle, the mighty jungle:
The Orc trail is easy to spot in the moonlight, and follows the familiar path that took you to the Valley. Barratore catches up with Harvest at the crossroads, and the two warriors head down the right hand fork into the unknown.

After a short while they find the putrid campsite, from the outskirts Harvest can see the cowardly goblins lying down haphazardly between the tents. A small mound smoulders in a pit in the centre of the camp as if the fire had been poorly prepared, ash and embers are being blown about in the breeze.

"Shoo. No. You go." Those were the things that she had said at first upon noticing that Barratore Steelwind had followed her. But, in the end, there was little that she could do to force him to return without returning herself. She could most certainly outrun him. But she could not leave him alone in the darkness. And, in the end, it was comforting to have his presence. This, despite the fact that he was too big to hide well.

"It is not so far from this camp to the village," whispers Harvest Moon to Barratore Steelwind. "They stopped here. As though they did not think we would follow. That is foolish."

Then Harvest Moon tips her head to one side as though, in doing so, she could see the scene from a different and more revealing angle. "Are they asleep?" she asks of the goblin bodies, as though speaking to both herself, Barratore Steelwind and no one in particular. "Or are they slain?"

Harvest Moon crouches in the darkness, remaining very still. Quietly she watches the camp for the signs of the restless movement common in those who sleep.

Harvest and Barratore enter the camp and find that the goblins have indeed been slain. The blood covered floor is almost dry, the goblins have been dead for a few hours. Whoever killed them was swift and brutal. The goblin's weapons are sheathed and none fled. Apart from the smoldering fire, which appears to contain papers the camp appears otherwise untouched.

A search of the camp uncovers many small pouches of gold among the cots and a larger cache in the large tent. A total of 4000 gp is recovered.

In the valley the warriors rest. Catfolk continuously bring water to bathe your wounds and offer drinks. If you were paying attention you might notice that the buckets, bowls, jars and various containers of water are being stockpiled near the central fire.

With little else to do unless Harvest redirects him, Barratore gathers the gold and tents. "Can you tell what killed them Harvest?" She had said they were dead and had been so for a few hours. Were they so far behind the goblins or were they dead before the attack? The numbers are the same as from those who fled, so they somehow put a lot of distance between them Perhaps it was his fault, Harvest was much more fleet of hoof than he. The thought that he might be the cause of the mystery remaining as such sat like soured milk in his stomach. A feeling he did not care for at all.

Having gathered all he could think to gather, the minotaur moves to Harvest and drops down to her level on one knee. "Sorry Harvest. You were right I should have shoo'd" apology made, Barratore grabs the tents and heads out.

Barratore and Harvest examine the wounds on the Goblins. The cuts are clean and precise, as if made by a very sharp blade -- or blades. There are some footprints -- shoe prints to be precise in the camp, but no tracks to follow. Whoever killed the goblins did not want to be followed.

Harvest looks at the remains of the papers which appear to be letters, written in common and by an elegant hand. There is not much left but patches of text referring to the valley, payment and timeframes survived. No names are seen but a mark is visible among the ashes -- Three vertical bars, embossed in gold leaf.

Finding little more of interest Barratore and Harvest make their way back to the valley, no urgency in their step as they are weary. The first hints of dawn are lighting the sky when they arrive and find their friends resting.

The people have been gathering water from a pond near the rear of the valley and have surrounded the fire with containers. They now sit around the fire, heads bowed as in meditation.

Young mother moves to greet Barratore and Harvest. "Welcome back frrriends. Please sit and rest, mother is awake and the ritual is about to start".

Young mother quickly moves between the remaining League Adventurers and wakes them gently before returning to the ruined keep.
Soon, Young mother exits, supporting Mother. A heavily bandaged TB follows behind, having emerged from the keep for the first time since the battle began hours earlier.
The trio approach the fire and Young mother and TB take place among the other catfolk.

Mother looks tired but stands on her own. She similes at the League adventures and raises her hands to the sky. "Friends, you have come to aid The People in our darkest hour and saved us from the greenskin horde. In gratitude we offer to you a sacred treasure. Brothers. Sisters. Extinguish the flames.[/b]

The People stand and grab the many containers of water and tip them onto the flames. Smoke and steam rise into the darkness. When the hissing of steam stops TB wades into the mud and begins sifting through the ash, retrieving a blackened object. He returns it to Mother after polishing it slightly.

Mother Steps forward and presents it to you as the first rays of sun creep into the valley. "Please accept this with our gratitude. The Stone of Hrrerricko.

No sooner are they returned than they are whisked to a ritual. Harvest Moon shares a look with Barratore Steelwind. What is this about? In her magic haversack she has the bits of letters from the fire. They have the news from the camp. But that must wait.

It is good to see the Mother up and about. TB as well. Harvest Moon watches as the curious ritual proceeds. When TB emerges from the ashes with the stone, she creeps forward on all fours, sniffing with curiosity at what this must be. "Stone of Hrrerricko ... " she echoes in a whisper.

Barratore drops the tents and gold that he had carried back. the bits of paper Harvest found were interesting and perhaps someone back in Rum would recognize the sigil or perhaps they could look it up. But right now he wanted a bed and as The People pour out he knows that is no going to happen. The goblins had been killed fast and relatively clean. Barratore shares with Harvest on the return that perhaps the same person she chased at the Ferry was responsible.

Ceremony and mysticysm always had Barratores attention. Few strode about with more superstitious beliefs than the fighter from the Starlight clan. Gerox takes the rock and finds Barratore's ample frame right on top of him to have a look as well. He's about to interrupt Gerox's offer of giving it back with a sturdy smack in the head, but holds off long enough to hear the rest of his words and his rising hand simply settles back into place. "What magic is on Gerox?"

"Mother that came before, told the story of the Herricko Stone. It was a gift from Herricko to The People and it bestowed its bearer with the power of Good Fortune. It was given to our hunters who made the best kills, and our healers when remedies were failing. The Stone was a blessing but brought about jealousy among those who were not favoured by is power. A fight erupted among two hunters claiming the stone was theirs to use and blood was shed.

Mother that came before, cast the stone into the flames until such time as a spirit worthy of its blessing was among the People. My friends, I believe you are all worthy! -- KUUUUUUUUUU!!!"
Mother lets out the distinctive cry of The People, and the call is matched by all in attendance. It is a glorious sound that echoes through the valley and across the island.

Harvest Moon gazes upon the stone. That it came from the fire is a thing of miracles. Within the mind of Harvest Moon come words from a different gift giving long ago. A wise man once gave the gift of the claw of a bear and he said, "Use it well... or sell to curio trader. Either way, says much about you."

They were very strange and mystic words then to a younger Harvest Moon. Even now, she is unsure as to exactly what they meant.

"Thank you," are the words that come to Harvest Moon. "But the danger to the people, I think is not past." She shows everyone the scraps of paper from the fire, laying them out for all to touch and to see. Then she speaks of what she and Barratore Steelwind found at the camp of the Green Skins.

"I think that it must be the one who slew the Green Skins in the camp was watching the battle. This one knew that the Green Skins had failed even before they returned in defeat. This one, perhaps, had already burned these papers by that time."

"Barratore Steelwind thinks that, perhaps, this may have been the same one that we pursued to the ferry."

She has tried to read as much as she can. She had tried her best to collect lore from all places and on all subjects. The problem comes, finds Harvest Moon, in attempting to recall it.

She stares at the symbol upon one of the pieces of paper rescued from the ashes in the camp. She looks up only as the silver light of healing washes over her, giving a smile to Hert of Gargul.

Three vertical bars, embossed in gold leaf.

Where from does the symbol come?

You make your way through the gates with a call of WLA, let 'em pass from the guards. It appears you have made a name for yourselves and are easily recognised. Fame can be a good thing at times.

You ignore the many shop fronts and street vendors selling luxury wares from across the Wold as you pass through the affluent parts of town on your way to The WLA compound. You meet with Captain Theringer in his office. The room is sparsely furnished, sporting an impressive writing desk, a which the captain sits and an armour and weapon stand.

Captain Theringer listens to your report, his brow furrowed. A patrol found the orc corpses outside of town. I had a feeling you fellows had a hand in it. Few in these parts will slay a horde then prepare them for the afterlife. But killing giants? That must have been an experience.

He opens a drawer in his desk and retrieves a small pouch. He slowly unites the bag, deep in thought, and empties the contents onto the desk. Several small golden objects clatter onto the desk. They are all the same and disconcertingly familiar - the three bar symbol.

They make no sense. I have sent word to all WLA outposts trying to find out their origin, but no one has a clue as to its origins. No known organization or religion or historical reference. How could they infiltrate our city so quickly without anyone knowing who they are.

These have all been collected in the last week. We noticed some of the ringleaders of the recent unrest were wearing them. They could have been around for months but no one has made the link.

I fear we are missing something. Something big.

"Things that do not reveal themselves in their history or in their connections with peoples, can sometimes reveal themselves through their movements and territories," said Harvest Moon to Captain Sal Theringer. From her haversack she took her book of maps and turned to the page upon which she had sketched Rum. "Where was it that the symbols were found? Were they only in the Cesspools? Tell me the places, and I will mark them on the map. We will see if there is a pattern. We will then know where to search for these peoples."

Then, tipping her head to one side, Harvest Moon asks curiously, "Did you not capture any of these peoples with the symbol, Captain Sal Theringer?"

Secret groups and strange symbols were enough to give Brom a headache. Give him something tangible that he could split in two, that was something he could wrap his head around. Again as with other things, the barbarian would let the thinkers handle the thinking and the drinkers, counting himself among that group, would do the drinking.

Barratore looks down at Edson to take the lead, this was his turf and game. The fact that the symbols were part of some dark conspiracy, some plot against Rum or the rulers of it did not mean much to Barratore on any deeper level than it meant he was in the right place, to be an example of defending those who cannot defend themselves, and live the exciting stories he grew up with.

Barratore will follow Edson to the table and sit, "At least 2 tankards of ale and a large plate of meat" The fighter sets himself to relaxing and recalling the giant fight with more huberous and less fact.

There many things to tend to. Her garden must be combed for weed plants. And the sea grasses that she placed out to dry must be brought in and pounded to a suppleness for clothing.

But, part of living with people is sharing things with them as well. Or so she has read. And so it is that Harvest Moon winds up in The League inn with the others. She takes three mugs, one of ale, one of mead and one of wine. She wrinkles her nose at the smell of the ale. The mead is sweet, but sticky and cloying. The wine has a bitterness, but it is the least objectionable of the three. She vows this time to not become drunken as she did when first drinking so many months ago.

The food and drink keep coming with the waitress pointing out which table of adventurers has paid each time. Many come over to congratulate you and listen to your latest adventure.

The corner table remains somber however and certainly does not buy you a round. Scully Swiftblayde and his band of "heroes" watch on with a scowl and hushed conversation. It appears they are still bitter about your recent encounters.

No one pays them much attention however, what with celebrities in their midst and as more drinks are consumed the singing inevitably starts. A drunken gnome hops up on a stool to serenade you with a limerick

This band are adventures true,
They always know what to do.
Killing orcs or vampires,
Extinguishing fires,
I don't want to fight them, do you?

The bar erupts in laughter and cheers as a bald headed dwarf tries his luck.

Explorin' the isle of Rum,
These fellows have sure had some fun.
We drink to their health,
And mountains of wealth,
Each time, an errand they run.

More cheers and a fresh round of drinks arrive at your table. All eyes move to you expectantly as no one else tries their hand at poetry.

The wages of liquor ravage the faculties. A sigh escapes the lips of Harvest Moon as the ragged meter of her fellow League Adventurers assault her senses. But ... and it is this thought that returns a soft smile to her face ... But, they are happy. They are happy and that is a good thing.

We return once again here to Rum,
She said. It is home so to here we will come.
But instead, of getting to work,
We come here and shirk.
But at least it's a Rum that's not glum.

Each line rattles off of the tongue of the small half-elven girl without thought. The words come, almost as though of their own volition. They come out strong and well. But when the last word is spoken the strength and courage with which Harvest Moon had stood forth and presented her rhyme now flee. Harvest Moon blushes a deep red, and draws back to her seat. Against giants, she rushes to battle. Now faced with a cheering happy crowd, she hides.

The rounds arrive and Barratore nods thanks at each table doing so and takes a few drinks from each tankard, but he leaves much of everyone in the glass. It would be impolite to decline, but there was no rule that said he must finish each drink. That's how you lose control and he was not about to do that.

Barratore applauds the gnome and dwarf and then as eyes turn to them, to him, the knot forms. Luckily his fellows pick up the slack and with each stanza, he hoists a tankard and takes a moderate drink. With Brom laying the challenge down, though he dislikes the spotlight, he simply can't sit back and let the barbarian claim victory later. Barratore inhales and snorts hard as he stands with a nearly empty mug.

"In Rum, our city so fair,
await adventure and glory to spare
I've felled many a foe,
with blade, horn, and bow.
Upon land, the sea and the air!"

The large fighter stands a bit longer, quite proud of himself in the moment and then sits. A heavy hand contacts Edson's shoulder. "This was likely your best idea Shortround." He gives a laugh and another hearty clap to Edsons shoulder and finishes the tankard in hand

There was a young gnome from Rum.
Who kicked his enemies in the bum.
His goal in life is to find a stead.
Who can carry him into battle at need.
He prefers a ride with mighty horns.
Who can leave his enemies ripped and torn.
While the mage throws spells and deadly fire.
Knowing his steed will never tire.
Where will this gnome find his ride?
Maybe he can find him by his side."

Barratore has a quick thought of putting the small gnome through a wall, but it passes as fast as it comes. He was well use to Gerox at this point and so he raises a glass to the gnome and takes light drink from it. What was more of an oddity was that Harvest seemed to be snuggling into himself and Brom. He glances down at her and then back to the room in general.
The parting crowd has his attention quickly. Of course it was Scully. how could it be anyone else With that thought, though, the minotaur did not like what he was seeing or hearing. Scully was a rogue and centaurs behind, but there wasn't going to be a lynching.

Barratore stands and moves over to the half orc, "No." he states flatly. "Nobody is getting strung up"

Perhaps next time she will stand aside and allow events to go their way. In her heart, though, Harvest Moon knows that she would not be able to do so.

The sun is beautiful upon the sea the next morning as she sits upon the shore watching. She had risen well before hand as was her custom, and had taken the bread and fruit along with her. She could only assume that the bread and fruit was from the owners of the inn known as The League and that the mail of which the note spoke was from someone else. He toasts Brom and Edson and continues to drink lightly and switch glasses before they are empty often. The new Half orc at the table, he mostly ignores unless directly addressed. He claimed to be in their debt for avenging his crew. All well and good as far as Barratore was concerned save the fact he didn't avenge anyone. Have to know about someone before the fact to avenge them. Deep into the night, Barratore retires, not one for passing out in the bar. Assuming Brom does, the fighter carries him home.

Barratore has no issue rising and making his way to breakfast. He had always excelled at eating. Barratore gets as much hot greasy meat as he can pile on his plate and drops down right next to Edson. Taking a big mouthful and loudly licking the fat from his fingers, he drops a small handful of thick bacon right in front of the man with a shooting wink at Gerox.

"Thank you," Harvest Moon says. Though, whether her reply is in regards to the party of the night before or for the delivery of the gift from Captain Sal Theringer is not clear. She holds up one of the metal bands. With a doubtful look she places it over her head, feeling its weight upon her shoulder.

It seems that parading about with sashes is one of their duties. It is sometimes difficult to fathom why certain things are of importance and others are not.

"Where will you go today," Harvest Moon asks of her friend Peza. She is clever. She will find a sensible place to show of the sash.

Hert takes a sash and weighs it in his hands. He looks annoyed and irritated when he speaks:

"Tell captain Theringer that I only serve Gargul, the God of Life and Death. He has my faith and loyalty, and only his will makes me risk my life to save others. My service to the WLA would end instantly if He chose so. I will not wear this sash firstly because I do not want to fool anyone by displaying allegiance I do not have, and because I will not put Gargul and WLA on the same level by wearing their symbols at once."

He returns the sash and takes the Stone of Hrrerricko to examine it. He tries to focus, but the noise in the bar keeps distracting him, so he gives up in a couple of minutes.

Brom reads the note and groans. Dang old SOB. Thinks Brom. The barbarian didn't want this type of association with the League. He was more than happy to go fight things for them and handle the rough stuff, but it was too regulated. Too many rules, which often didn't sit right with the independent Brom.

Brom shakes his head.

The problem now was with the defeat of the pirate king, there was no way not to be associated with the League - especially after the drunken display he had put on last night at the bar.

The barbarian thinks long and hard about his choice and what it would mean. If he didn't take it, publically it would bring bad PR to the Leage. One of the pirate king heroes refuses to wear the colors. On the other hand, if he does wear it, he gets drawn deeper into this restrictive group.

In the end the barbarian takes the band. He wears it around his waste with the badge outward and heads off to find Barratore.

"There you go Shortround" Barratore claps a thundering hand to the table next to Edson. "Best thing for it is another drink."

Barratore looks over as the box is opened and the note read. He is nodding his agreement even before the last words were read. "We'll see about that durability claim." Barratore puts it up over his shoulder and adjusts it to be as visible as possible.

Barratore stands and squares off to Hert, "You want to reconsider the part about not having any loyalty to the rest of us. We have enough things going on without worrying that the cleric might suddenly decide his god wants him to go do something else. Til Gargul steps up and says something, its just you saying things. Got nothing to do with Gargul."

Barratore turns "I leaving before I say something we might regret. As he passes Edson, he barks at him, "Put it on"

Barratore exits the tavern, "I'm getting a bit more coin for a day about town. Meet you at the compound."

Barratore gets back to the compound, still a bit sour at Hert and Edson. Oaths were sworn, vows taken and pronounced and now that they were being asked to stand up and be the example on sight that they pledged to be, they were bowing out. Weak. Pathetic. Cowards. The more he thought on it the more worked up he became. Something had to give and Barratore snatches his blade to try and put some piece to his mind on the practice ground

Hert looks Barratore straight in the eyes and starts his response firmly, almost aggressively, but calms down as he speaks, and finishes in a neutral, calm tone.

"I do have loyalty to you, Barratore. But unlike gods, mortals are fallible, they sin or make mistakes. We save the weak and punish those who disturb His cycle of life and death, and while we do that, I am with you no matter how dangerous or hard it may be. But the worst dictatorships are known to be born from the best intents, and how can we say that you or me or WLA will never make mistakes in future? You are a noble and honorable person, Barratore, and I trust you will never walk the path of evil, and captain Theringer is also a wonderful man who tries his best to do the right thing. But WLA as a whole, as a concept is neither good nor evil, WLA is dynamic, it changes from place to place, it will change as time goes on. How can I commit to such vague concept? Why should I put my god, a perfect being, on the same level as WLA?"

Harvest Moon listens. There are many thoughts that come from listening to the words of the others - her friends of the League Adventurers. She thinks these thoughts, and finally she speaks.

"Faith," says Harvest Moon. "Faith in god. Faith in man. Faith in friends."

"The future is uncertain, Hert of Gargul. But one cannot live thinking of uncertainty. One must think of faith. Once faith is broken. One acts."

"These things ... " Harvest Moon reaches for the sash hung across her body. "This too ... " In her other hand she lifts the gnarled wooden root that resembles the fist of Domi. "They are nothing."

"Faith is here," she says. And Harvest Moon lets both symbols fall from her hands as she points at her heart.

The WLA sashes have caused mixed emotion among the group with some gladly donning the new accessory while others disapprove.

One thing that is for certain, wearing the sash will clearly identify you as a member of the Woldian League of Adventurers. Will it bring you favor, or mark you as an enemy? Who knows? Its a good thing the WLA is respected in these parts.

As you are about the head out for the day (accessorized or not) a young girl carrying a large book and enters the bar, red cheeked and out of breath. She is well dressed and has a quill behind her ear.

She opens the book and retrieves the quill, dipping it in a small vial she retrieves from her pocket. Clearly she is used to writing on the move.

She smiles and introduces herself. "I am Maria Glass, reporter for the Golden Quarter Times. I reported recently on The League Adventurers defeat of the Vampire Pirate King and my readers want more. When Scully told me you were back in town, and probably still here i ran as fast as I could.

So if you don't mind... can you each tell me about yourselves, and how you fit into the team?"
Maria smiles expectantly, quill poised to take down every word.

He turns to Hert and says, "Both are symbols. Your holy symbol to Gargul should stand higher in your heart but I don't think Gargul is such a jealous god that he would mine you being an inspiration for the good people of Rum. Many of these folks gave up everything they had of their past lives to come here. They travelled months on the sea to restart their lives for whatever their own reasons were. Instead of finding just the burdens of starting everything over, they have also been attacked by monsters in the night. We stand between them and those monsters. These sashes are not only something we can be proud of, they will bring comfort to the masses knowing tough and skilled adventurers of good heart stand between them and the creatures who would drive them from their dreams."

Fit? Into the team?

Harvest Moon passes a small hand over the soft fuzz of her shaved head as she ponders the question. Fit? The single long lock of hair that drapes down from her forehead draws her from her consideration of the problem by tickling her cheek and she blows it away from her in annoyance with a single puff of breath.

"I am Harvest Moon," she says finally. And, "Fit in the team is a difficult question. We do what we can and we do what we must. I do not know how else to act," she says. Then her eyes slide away as though embarrassed and she passes on to place Peza between herself and the Reporter Maria Glass.

The more conversation about sashes goes on, the more adventurers seem to disagree with Hert and the more uncomfortable he gets with the conversation. He listens to every argument made by others, but does not provide his own. Finally, Gerox's words about giving hope seem to soften him up a bit:

"Giving hope and comfort? Okay... Huh, that could make sense." - he picks up the sash and again weighs it in his hand. "I'll need to consider it." - he continues and places the sash in his backpack.

When they meet Maria and it is his turn to introduce himself, Hert speaks:

"I'm Hert. An eye of Gargul, if you like pompous names. His follower and, well, I follow His will and reinforce His order. By His will I am here as an adventurer. I try to make sure that those whose time to die has not yet come stay alive, and those who try to take life unjustly get punished. That's a simple way to put it."

My primary role is to use my magic to both support my friends and strike down our foes. I also tend to be the mouthpiece of the group as most of the others are to shy to talk to fancy reporters like yourself.

Let me help you figure out our roles. Brom and Barratore are the backbone of our group. They stand tall and strike down our foes. Without them, the rest of us couldn't function. Harvest and Edson tend to be our scouts and mobile infantry. They are great at keeping us informed and out of danger. Hert, with the blessings of Gargul, keeps us on our feet and fighting way past when we should have fallen into bloody heaps. The bards will sing tales of his bravery and courage to heal us while being attacked by our foes. Finally Peza is our artillery. His aim with a bow is astounding and he also is our leader. He keeps us organized and focused on which foes are the more dangerous and need to be taken out first. Without him we would all be a disorganized mess."

Gerox pauses and asks, "Are you getting all of this down? Do you need me to slow down?"

Some of you have indicated that you will head to the docks. So off you head. The League is located, as i am sure you remember, on the main road that runs through the heart of Rum City, from the docks in the south to the city gate up north. The road is full of carts, travelers, immigrants and workers. Flags are flapping in the breeze and stalls are being set up. Hot food and cooling drinks will be available for sale soon. Workers are preparing the area for the festivities.

The walk to the dock is crowded and you have to force your way through in parts. (perception check vs dc15 please, if heading to the docks.)

At the docks there are three competitions about to take place.

"Roll up, roll up one and all. Test your skills, prove your worth" calls a man in an unusually large striped jesters hat.

"Think you are strong? try the hammer game! Using the hammer, hit the board and ring the bell" a bald muscular man with a curly mustache demonstrates by hitting a red board on the ground causing a ball to rise into the air and ring a bell."Line up and test your might... if you are game?"

More of an acrobat? Try the high dive! Climb the mast of ship behind me and when it is your turn demonstrate your skills. You will be judged on grace and style.

All this physical activity getting you down? Why not try the potion test. Answer three questions and add the ingredients to the potion. Get all questions right and win a prize... get some wrong and, well, lets see what happens!

Some of the crowd move to the watch the spectacles and some even line up to test their skills... do you?
