He goes through his knees and tries to make him as small as possible. He does his best not to sound grumpy. He digs up 2 silver coins and holds 'm up for the lads...
"There ain't no horse I ride... but me and my mates would like to know how life is here wih Boss Wathe being in charge... I'l sure pranksters like you know the in and out of this town and... there's probably little you haven't heard right?"

Last comment from Chale left Faust wondering why these people actually seem to think they are the bad guys and this Boss Wathe the good guy!? He was expecting to find a bunch of suppressed people he and his friends would be able to free... instead they are all affraid of 'Trouble'...
"It's these very same weapons that have kept me a free man. Free from the likes of Boss Wathe that you seem to consider your benefactor. I was hoping to find people brave enough to stand against the suppression of Wathe and his goons but apparently I was mistaken. May trade be fruitful to you..."

DM Kathy Tuesday October 1st, 2013 9:41:50 PM Za'Reed remarks that he is more expensive than Candy, which earns him a raised eyebrow and a giggle. She sashays past him down the stairs and stands watching the games of chance. Za catches up to her and asks what kinds of services are offered.
"Oh, we have everything," she says cheerfully. "Food, drink," she waves her hand, "games. And upstairs...well, upstairs we can get real friendly. You in a friendly mood, stranger?"
Ragnarök slides another two gold to Frec, who pockets them with the same practiced ease. "Well," he says, "there's the Brookhollows. The Halfling clan that runs the inn. They've got no love for Boss Wathe, that's for sure. After them, your best bet's probably Otto. He's not too bright, but if you could explain--in small words, mind--that not all shopkeepers have to pay a cut to some boss or other, I think he'd be on your side. If you get them to back you, come back here." He drops his voice to a low murmur. "Miss Sussy was Boss Wathe's number one supporter when he first took over, but she ain't so happy now. If you could prove you have support from the rest of the town, and that you have what it takes to take on the Boss, she might be able to help you. 'Course, you'd want a private meeting for that; she won't want to talk to you out in public. I can arrange that. If I'm properly motivated."
Asteron asks the Halfling kids about Boss Wathe. "We don't like Boss Wathe," the older one says, somewhat defiantly. "Yeah," the younger one puts in. "He makes mama and papa sad."
Faust, realizing that he's getting nowhere with the weavers, takes his leave and makes his way to Miss Sussy's.

When he arrives at Otto's, he enters though the main door and looks around the place.
DM Kathy Wednesday October 2nd, 2013 9:39:28 PM Asteron is talking to the two Halfling boys; he asks why Boss Wathe makes their parents sad. "Well," says the older boy, clearly struggling to express something he doesn't fully understand. "Well, they run the inn, see. And they want it to be a nice inn so that maybe nice people will come. But nice people don't come here because of Boss Wathe, so that makes them sad."
Faust is coming to think that Boss Wathe sounds like a basic run-of-the-mill crime boss who happens to run a whole town. [OOC: Yes, the Brookhollows run the inn where you had some food and drink. Or some of you did. And the food was really good.]
Za'Reed has questions for Candy, but, judging from the look in her vacuous blue eyes, she doesn't really understand what he's asking. "I guess you'd have to ask Boss Wathe about that," she replies uncertainly.
Ragnarök pays Frec again, then asks where he might find Otto. "In his store," Frec replies. "You passed it on the way in."
For anyone who needs to refresh their memory, here is the map. You did indeed pass by Otto's on your way into town.
Toregan, slightly ahead of the rest of the group, heads over to Otto's. The crudely-lettered sign out front says: "Otto's Things to Buy." You go inside; a jangling bell announces your arrival. You find yourself in a small store with several shelves. All manner of goods are displayed on the shelves, in no order or system that you can discern. You look at a shelf where a ceramic chamber-pot sits next to a garden rake and a carved pipe, and wonder how anybody can find anything in here.
You hear a roar from the back of the shop, then a lumbering figure comes charging at you. You almost reach for a weapon, but the lumbering figure is saying: "Welcome! You are a customer! I am Otto! I have things for you to buy!" As he gets closer, you can see he is by far the biggest human you have ever seen in your life. No, he can't possibly be all human. Part giant? Half-ogre? Possibly.
"This is a good store!" Otto says. "It is my store, and it is good." He reaches out--randomly, as far as you can tell--and grabs something off one of the shelves. It is a spade. The handle looks tiny in his massive hand. "Here, maybe you want to buy this?" he says.

Experienced adventurers that you are, you decide to split the party! That always ends well. ;)
Ragnarök stays in the bar at Miss Sussy's, keeping an eye on the games of chance. They are fairly typical dice and card games, and the people gambling seem to be--well, maybe "enjoying themselves" would be overstating it, but they're definitely not bored. Za'Reed also stays at Miss Sussy's, and pauses for a moment to talk strategy with Rag.
Yngvar takes up a position on the market square, doing a passable imitation of a drunk.
Asteron continues making friends with the Halfling lads. "Boss Wathe's usually in the Town Hall," the older one says. "He usually has a lot of guys with him. Five or six maybe? I don't know." They don't know of any secret ways into Town Hall, unfortunately, although they do know which house is Wathe's. "He don't like people bothering him at home, though," the younger one says.
Toregan browses through Otto's store. You can't quite escape Otto's "helpful" attention; the half-ogre keeps pulling random stuff off shelves and asking you if you want to buy it. Looking around you see that, despite the bad organization, most things in the store are useful in one way or another. You see tools, household goods, a few items of clothing. And, yes, adventuring gear as well. You find some hemp rope, a hooded lantern, a few lengths of canvas, and some empty scroll cases, all at PHB prices.
As he watches the square, Yngvar sees a couple of men leave the Town Hall and stroll casually in the direction of Miss Sussy's. They are, perhaps, trying a little too hard to be casual.

Toregan turns and glances at the door before motioning Otto to lean in closer. "I can also personally say that he is not a good boss. He hired people to attack my home and kill my friends, just because he sees us as a threat to his Freehold."

As Asteron nurses his ale, Ragnarök discreetly takes out a potion of Mage Armor and holds it ready.
Over at the table, Yngvar continues harassing Wathe's men. One of them stands, hand on his rapier. "Get. Out."
Faust strikes up a conversation with Blossom Brookhollow. "Well," she says cautiously, "there's no love lost between us and Wathe, that's true enough."
Toregan is introducing Otto to some new concepts. "Not a good Boss?" he says. "We need a new Boss?"

With his glass of whiskey in hand Za sits with his eyes on Waithe's men and Yngvar.
When the man stands and basically threatens the young human, Za becomes worried and trys to get his attention through the message spell...
Yngvar! We shouldn't fight in here! Not before we have our meeting with Miss Sussy and confront Waithe. Killing these two will cause all hell to break loose. It's best just to leave right now my friend. [/b]
He holds his hand out, signaling Rag to hold on. Setting his glass on the counter top, he stands and takes only two steps toward the table,
hey hey hey; No need to cut the boy. Za addresses Waithe's men, Obviously he's to drunk to see he's being obnoxious. He points a finger at Yngvar, Young man, I suggest leaving them alone. Maybe you've had enough for one day, maybe not. Either way, I think it's time you made your leave.
Hands on his hips, Za stands staring Yngvar. His eyes darting toward the door ever so often, hoping Yngvar takes the hint and heads on outside.
This could be interesting, and Frec said if he fight in here the deal is off.... Although, pretty sure 6 was the number of body guards around Waithe... Take out these two and that'll be down to 4. Lets see what happens.. If this goes by without a fight It might not be a bad idea for us all to get out of here until we make that .

Asteron keeps his eyes on his drink, but his muscles tense, and then relax. He knows the fight is going down. In his mind, that is not bad. To take the enemy down piecemeal is much better than to confront them all at once. They might have to pay for damages later, but to his military mind, there is a definite advantage in what is developing.

DM Kathy Friday October 11th, 2013 12:44:34 AM Za'Reed attempts to defuse the situation by taking Yngvar away from Wathe's men, as Asteron continues to sip his drink and Ragnarök worries about the implications.
Wathe's men exchange glances. "Nothing but drunks in here," one of them says, and they turn to leave. They're trying to give the impression that they're leaving in disgust, but it's not a very convincing act. They are probably going back to report to Wathe.
Toregan continues to talk with Otto. "How?" the half-ogre asks. "How is Boss Wathe removed?" He seems interested in the answer. He also seems to be understanding that perhaps Boss Wathe isn't quite the immutable fact of life he once thought.
Faust continues talking with Blossom Brookhollow. "The Outpost?" she says. "You mean the Trading Post? I've heard of that. I hear they've had troubles. Some of Boss Wathe's making."

DM Kathy Monday October 14th, 2013 12:11:26 AM Ragnarök warns his friends that things may soon be coming to a head. He asks Frec about the meeting with Miss Sussy. Yngvar, in his role of drunk, positions himself to stop the two men if the group thinks it's a good idea, but Za'Reed dissuades him. It's too early to act. Asteron stays where he is.
The two men leave Miss Sussy's.

Faust grins even further as Blossom mentions she knows that Wathe's behind some of such troubles. "Indeed, that is the place I speak of; I'm surprised you know that some of the trouble there was caused by Wathe."
"Rest assured though, all trouble, Wathe's hand or otherwise, was masterfully taken care of, with minimal impact, by none other than me and my partners, whom you met earlier. Speaking of which, it is also us, the Trading Post, who maintain the waystations coming from the Float, which I assume to be very important to all, but very especially to your trade, ain't it?", he adds rubbing his chin as he waits for the positive response.
"Now, we have tried to work together with Wathe...or rather, with Tunks, but the man made his position crystal clear that it's either the Freehold or naught. But we personally believe such thinking is incredibly counter-productive, both as a mindset over a potential ally and as a way to fend off against possible local threats, as while concentration brings strength, it also creates a weakness in that a single well-placed attack might be too much for the whole colonization of the Thunderlands to survive...", he adds, raising his arms, very theatrically as his face shows actual disappoint over the failed negotiations.
"But I digress, it must be already obvious that our reason for coming here is to overtrown Wathe and his goons and make the Freehold part of the Trading Post, with or without physical relocation of populace and resources. We got a tip that there are people here who dislike Wathe's recent antics and politics, you quite naturally included."
"May I count with the Brookhollows' cooperation in the upcoming confrontation, whatever form it might end up taking? I'm not asking you folk to fight, no, leave that for us, that's our trade. We seek only comfort, good word to the fair, if misguided, people of Freehold and, if needed be, a place to retreat to and lick our wounds. Can we count on you?", he finishes, not wishing to make the conversation much longer as trouble brews outside.

At Miss Sussy's, Za'Reed, Yngvar, and Ragnarök are growing anxious. Does the group have enough time to muster allies before Boss Wathe makes his move?
Yngvar goes upstairs, looking for roof access. You do not immediately find any. At least, there's nothing labeled. Of course, there are lots and lots of closed doors up here.
Faust continues speaking with Blossom Brookhollow. Unlike many people who tend to get a little glassy-eyed at Faust's discourses, Blossom seems to follow what he's saying pretty easily. She nods decisively. "If you plan to take on Boss Wathe," she says, "the Brookhollow clan will back you. You have my word on it."

"Now, I'll have to excuse myself, ms. Brookhollow, there are matters that call for my attention still.", he says with a corteous bow just before he leaves through the door.
