So far, Yngvar has not found a way onto the roof from the second floor.
Ragnarök downs his potion, then he, Asteron, and Za'Reed head outside.
Faust moves to join them, happy to hide behind the burlier members of the party.
Toregan finds a spot in an alley.
You decide not to attack--to allow Boss Wathe's "boys" to start whatever's going to be started here. They do not disappoint. The six swagger across to where the main group is standing, stopping just a few feet away. "You shouldn't have come," one of them says. "You was warned. Now we gotta teach you a lesson."
Just as the fight seems inevitable, you hear a roar from down the street. Looking that way, you see an enormous man charging at the group of Boss Wathe's men, brandishing a shovel, of all things. Toregan recognizes Otto.
Otto clocks one of the men with the shovel, hard enough to make him stagger. He turns to face this new threat, effectively out of the combat. You now face five men.
Except one of them seems to be having some kind of medical issue. He twitches, and jerks, and dances about. Looking around, you see two Halfling boys standing near the livery, throwing rocks. Asteron recognizes the two Brookhollow lads he talked to earlier. Wathe's man spots them, too, and charges after them, abandoning the fight in his effort to "fix you little brats good." The boys laugh as the run away.
So, thanks to your efforts to make friends, you now face only four opponents.

Yngvar is still looking for a vantage point. You do find a window at the end of a corridor, but it looks over Main Street; your view of the current fight is pretty lousy. [You can only see as far as column D, unless you open the window and lean out.]
Za'Reed takes advantage of the Haste spell to swing twice at his opponent. That thug, too, goes down.
There are two thugs left, both facing Ragnarök. The one he hit manages to shake off the effects of the Stunning Fist, then takes a five-foot step and tries to skewer the monk with his rapier. He misses badly; perhaps that Stunning Fist had more of an effect than he realized. The other thug also takes a 5-foot step, and now Rag is flanked. This thug is quite a bit better with his rapier; he manages to skewer Rag for 14 points of damage.

You all agree that burning down the building is probably not a good idea. Yngvar calls to the rest of you to come in.
Za'Reed points out that Boss Wathe probably isn't going to come to you, and Asteron joins the rest of the group in the building.
You are all now in the building, on the ground floor. There is nobody else on the ground floor. There is a stairway leading up to the second floor.
You look up the stairs, but because they are in the center of the building, there is no friendly window to shed light on them, or on whatever they lead to. You can make out a landing, and there is light coming from somewhere up there, but from here it's hard to tell where.
The stairway will accommodate Asteron's size, although he may have to squeeze a little.

The minotaur is ready to do as the party decides. He's not afraid to go in first, but there is no reason to block his companions just in case he gets stuck.

Rag nods to Asteron's considerations concerning the staircase.
"Yngvar going first is equally interesting as it is dangerous. We don't want to loose our spellcasters... Unless our Wizard insists, I will go first I guess... "
Rag thus climbs the staircase keeping an eye out for possible traps... he checks if there are any steps he should avoid... once upstairs he checks for an open door and peaks inside... (perception 31, stealth 16)

"This way Scarecrow can search for traps, something that's been invaluable in the past, while Worldtraveller does what he's best at. While Dar'Fien and Dondarin cover the back, though I hope such a thing to be unnecessary.", says Faust, hoping that everyone agrees to his positioning.
DM Kathy Monday October 28th, 2013 11:48:40 PM Asteron determines that he probably ought to go first or last, in case he gets stuck. Yngvar, still invisible, volunteers to go first, but Ragnarök doesn't like the sound of that. Invisible or no, he doesn't want the casters in harm's way.
Toregan expresses a wish to stay to the back, where he has range to shoot. Faust tries to position his teammates.
[Whether it's Faust's suggestion or something else, I will need a marching order.]
You make your way up the stairs, which are not trapped. The stairs open onto a gallery, with doors along either side. most of the doors are open; the windows of the rooms beyond are letting in a little light. Two doors are closed; one toward the back of the building and one toward the front.

Toregan glances at the many-doored hallway, and eyes the closed doors carefully. "I'd wager that he's behind one of the closed doors, since if he knows we beat his goons, he'll want as much protection as possible."

Up to you guys to decide if he should be wielding his bow or his rapier and axe. Either are viable in a situation like this.

Za looks at everyone, talking through the message spell;Talk quietly, we could easily be overheard in a situation like this. No traps have been found, but we see two closed doors. We assume he's behind one of them. What if thats the trap? We may as well send Yngvar to go in right behind the person who opens the door. That'll really give him a surprise opportunity. Just make sure to be alert, peek inside each open door as we pass.
Za is confident in himself and his companions, he moves forward with practiced movements.

Cautiously, you make your way down the gallery. You pass the first open door, alert for trouble. Nothing happens. You pass the second, again alert for trouble, and again nothing happens.
One by one, you pass by the open doors, checking each one for hidden attackers. Nothing continues to happen.
At last, you have "cleared" the gallery. Nothing is going to jump out at you from any of the open doors. All that remain are the two closed doors, one at the front of the building, and one at the back.

You head for the door at the back of the building. You get into position, and, at Ragnarök's suggestion, you kick the door down!
It falls with a crash. You burst in, ready for battle...
....and find yourselves in a storage room. You see a few crates in neat stacks, some odds and ends of furniture, and a chest of some kind. There is nobody in the room.
