"Why would you even do that?" - he asks one of the guards, shocked : "You are as good as dead anyway. It won't get you any favors on the other side."

He waits for the enemy to deliver a series of blows and tries to heal everyone again.

Edson draws back the string on his bow and aims carefully at his target. Two more shots fly towards the standing golem. One manages to penetrate deep into its shoulder, the other flies high and lands clatters as it ricochets off the cobble stone.

Brom hears and feels cracking through his body from the golem's last blow. The barbarian is undeterred and returns his strikes back at the golem, but he finds his power somewhat diminished and his attacks wanting.

Next to him Barratore takes three more strikes at the golem, but only lands a single glancing blow. While the two men attack the construct Harvest Moon runs around the golem and grapples the lone remaining Three Bar Mercenary. His arms are slippery and covered in sweat, but she just manages to keep her grip.

Peza feels helpless as the Golem and tribar guard relentlessly attack the fixers without regard for themselves .... suicidal ... whoever is behind the Tribar's is indeed devious and deceiful enemy. Reloading another bolt ... Peza snaps a quick shot at the golem ... hoping it will finally fall from their combined assault ... the bolt flies true and the sharp cracking of clay can be heard as the projectile sends a growing fissure across its face and destroys the magical creature.

Hert gasps, when the enemies finish off one of the fixers right in front of him. "Why would you even do that?" - he asks one of the guards, shocked : "You are as good as dead anyway. It won't get you any favors on the other side."

He waits for the enemy to deliver a series of blows and tries to heal everyone again....but the guards never attack.

We did it because that what we were hired to do. The guard says as he puts his arms in the air. We were hired to help the people and the WLA overthrow an oppressive regime so that they might be free.

The remaining guard stutters a little as his fellow guard falls and he tries to follow Harvest's question. The people of this town hired us to free them. We have no plan for an order of law and no wishes to head up any such order. We were asked to help free the people of the Fixer's oppressive rule and then planned to go home leaving to people to make their own choices and their own fate.

When asked specifically who hired him he lists off the name of several well known and successful merchants in Rum including Menevia's of Menevia's Best Precious Stones, Theodistyr of The Silver Sword arms store and Maaqrana in addition to several familiar WLA names.

As Edson searches the bodies he finds several swords, axes and shields all displaying the tri-bar symbol with the exception of the merchant's jeweled sword.

As the tribar guard gets peppered with questions .... Peza thinks of a few more ...." you say you were hired ?? so who are you ?? name of your outfit ??
We don't have one. He are several small groups and individual mercenaries hired to help free the people. My friends and I were one of the largest groups, I believe. There were six of us, and we were promised that if we succeeded our families would be taken care of, regardless of our fate.

" who was in charge of your group ??"
We were told to wait by the fountain and to attack the oppressors when the fighting started. There really wasn't much of a plan or anyone in charge of our group.[i]

"If you were hired to help the people and WLA .. then why did you kill Captain Theringer ... as he was the Captain of this WLA outpost ?"
[i]We were told the WLA was split between those hungry for power or getting their pockets lined by the government and those serving the people. Those that fought the regime we helped. Those that supported them.....
his voice trails off sensing there must be a personal connection between the group and "The Ringer".

Peza senses he is telling the truth, but that leaves just a many questions unanswered.... Captian Theringer's name rings in Peza's head and she quickly makes her way to where the captain had fallen .... the ranger checks on him .... unmoving and lifeless.

Gerox casts a detect magic spell and take some time to scan the battlefield looking for magic items and residue magic which might aid in their investigation. "I suggest we head back to the WLA compound Peza says, .... at least for a while .. we can bury Captain Theringer then try and figure out our next action " Peza looks for cart of some type to help transport the captains body and belongings back to the WLA compound .... after a moment she spots an abandoned cart that had been turned over and abandoned when the fight started with several loafs of trampled bread surrounding it.

As the others debate what to do Edson puzzles over the other mystery, "Does this strike anyone else as odd. This woman's body without a head?" Edson asks the group while pointing to the womans body. "I don't recall any women attacking, and if she was a bystander where is her head?"

As if on cue Gerox picks up the jeweled sword and announces, "This is magic. We should take it along." He then moves to the severed head and studies it more closely wondering if the head is magic or something like an earring is magic on the head. As he removes the helmet the hard metal turns to soft black fabric and the guards face begins to thin, his hair growing at amazing speed and his lips reddening...in mere seconds the rough guard's head transforms into that of an elegant and clearly well to do blond woman.

The transformation of the Mercenary's head to the woman's head is startling. Harvest Moon examines the head to place a name to the person who once belonged to this head and body. Her interest, though, for now at least, is largely academic.

"I will return to the compound now," she announces to the others. "It is our home still, I think. Maybe. I will go there to find out. If it is not, then I think I will join you in leaving Rum, Barratore Steelwind." So says Harvest Moon.

"I owe my allegiance to the Woldian League of Adventurers. I do not owe an allegiance to Rum. During the year we have been here, we have not met many people outside of the Woldian League. Only Scully Swiftblayde and his men, and I do not like them. We have spent little time in Rum. It has grown so swiftly that I do not know it. If the Woldian League in Rum is no more, then we have only each other."

"I go now to find out." With a grim look on her face, Harvest Moon turns and heads off alone in the direction of the compound of the Woldian League of Adventurers. Her thoughts are of what she might find and what it might mean for the future.

He speaks slowly out loud, "so a well to do and influential woman wore a magical disguise to appear as a mercenary guard and then engaged real warriors? She stood no chance. Why would a woman of means do such a thing?" Barratore shakes his head and then adds, "Are any of the other guards, not actually guards or mercenaries?"

Barratore also clears up that it is not that he wants to abandon Rum, but he does think a real danger still exists to The People and that what he means by leaving is to warn them sooner rather than later. He is not suggesting packing it in and leaving the city to the wolves.

Harvest spends a minute trying to identify the woman, but finds knowledge of the people of Rum is limited when it comes to those outside of the WLA and is unable to gain any new insights. Gathering up her gear she prepares to check on the WLA compound before deciding if she will stay here or join Barritore in leaving Rum.

Barritore clarifies that it is not his intention to leave Rum to its fate, but rather to warn the citizens of the danger he feels still exists. As he ponders the implications of such a well to do woman engaging in battle under disguise he concludes that there is much more going on here than meets the eye.

Edson cannot believe the transformation of the head and quickly checks the other guards. Although none reveal such an unexpected discovery, he does end up with a large pile of armor for his troubles.

Peza right the cart and with the utmost reverence places the captain's body in it along with his belongings, protecting them from the scavengers who are sure to follow such a scene. She agrees with Barritore, that it looks like someone is trying to cover something up, and asks Hert if he can use his powers to gain more insight from the dead.

Gerox drops the head in shock as it changes before his eyes. He quickly determines that it was the magic of the cloth hood that caused the transformation. Picking up the head he asks Hert if they should bring it along and try to figure out who she is and if he has a way to preserve it. As he then prepares to head out with Hert he notices the lingering auras of magic on many of the bodies had all but dissipated and that many of the swords and armor collected also have a magical aura. Not as strong as the magical hood or jeweled sword, but still magic.

Hert has never spoken to the dead before, but he doesn't think Gargul will have any problems with the spell as long as he does so with respect and isn't trying to circumvent death or create false life, but such a spell will have to wait until he has time to prepare it tomorrow. In the mean time the best he can do is preserve the head so that it doesn't deteriorate. He then agrees that the groups next best option is to head to the WLA and see if there are members who are yet loyal to the organization.

----------------

The trip to the WLA compound is a slow and devastating one. The fighting has stopped and those remaining mourn the dead. All around you are the signs of battle, fallen guards, fixers and tri-bar. It is impossible to calculate the damaged the city has sustained. As you walk several of the scared and confused citizens spot your sashes and begin following silently you, finding comfort in your presence. No one speaks until you reach the compound and are greeted by Abuto Anfri, a young WLA member just slightly higher ranking than yourselves. He directs the citizens to another room where they can get some food and then speaks to you. I am so relieved to see you all. Its as if all of Rum has gone insane. Brother attacking brother. One minute we were talking about the celebration and the next...they are all dead. All my superiors. Only a handful of us survived, except those who were delivering invitations or off the island, and we have been unable to get a hold of them. It appears there has been a plan in place to over throw the Fixer's, but that is all I know.

"We know little more than you. Less, I think. We have been away from Rum mostly. We do not even know the system by which Rum was governed. Why was it so bad that these people should wish to overthrow it? Explain the system of government to me now. Last I knew, the Fixers did not rule. They only helped with the building. When did this change, Abuto Anfri?" asked Harvest Moon. In her eyes, there grows the seed of a stubborn belligerence. Such a thing has this senseless slaughter provoked.

Harvest Moon is curious why Abuto is relieved to see him, but the look of relif on his face makes it clear. He is afraid and the sight of a friendly face is enough to lift his spirits. When she asks about the system of government a dumb looks crosses his face. ...Err...I never really thought about it. I guess I just assumed that since they planned out the "perfect city" that they were in charge. Politics never really interested me. I joined the WLA for adventure, but not like this. All I know is that a voice echoed therough the city and said something about it being time for a new leadership and then everyone started fighting.[b]

He also agrees with Peza that they should get the word out that the WLA is still here, though he seems hesitant at the thought of leaving the compound, and that they should bury Theringer at the compound. [b]I can think of no better place than infront of the WLA with a memorial statue erected in his honor.

As he talks Barratore seems to pick up on Abuto's true motivation and whispers, "He expects that he will continue living for a bit longer and expects that we will keep him that way" He then asks about the possibillity of a counter strike and the man responds, I don't even know who we are fighting or where we would find them to prepare an attack.

Gerox knows exactly what to do as he heads up to the bar and begins to drink, and through liquor comes wisdom. "We need to find out who hired those mercenaries. They wouldn't have come cheap! It would have taken alot of money to hire them. We need to follow the money."

Hert agrees to make the preparation for burial and walks out to search a proper place for a grave, finding a large stone that will serve as a good marker until a proper headstone can be made. Outside everything is eerily quiet, like the calm after a storm. All he can tell is that the fighting has indeed stopped.

Brom agrees with all that has been said, feeling they should follow the money and search out Scully to see if he is willing to help. The question is, where to start first and if you should start know or head out in the morning after you have rested and Hert has prepared his Speak to Dead spell.

A quiet frown came over the face of Harvest Moon. How could one live within a city for so long and known nothing of how it was run? Who makes the rules? Who collects the taxes? Where is the headquarters of the guard? These are things that all peoples of a city know.

And yet, these things, these facts of life, do not come to her either. When they had arrived upon the SeaSprite, she could have named these things. But, in the time that they had been here upon this island, things had changed so much, that she could not say.

Or, perhaps she could. She had learned of many things during the short periods they had spent in Rum during missions. It is a simple matter now of calming her mind and assembling the pieces into a whole picture. She weaves her fingers in a quick cantrip of Guidance. The act always serves to focus her thoughts. Who had made the laws of Rum before? In who was the power entrusted? Where was the headquarters of the guard? She would find these things, and then seek out the remnants of the law to see what remained.

Wednesday November 20th, 2013 11:48:24 AM

Harvest Moon frowns as she realizes how little she knows about the city about her and contemplates the numerous changes that have occurred, many of which happened as they were outside the walls of Rum. She knew the Fixers planned and organized everything dealing with the cities creation, and it seems likely they were in charge. She had never heard of an election in Rum in the city or of any governing body.

She thinks back to the groups days on the ship prior to their arrival in Rum. The captain had sent the cabin boy to get a map of the Rum and said.

"There are a LOT of groups and organizations who are part of the Fixer Fleet. All of them have just as valuable a claim to being here and helping to build Rum. However, the WLA highly suspects that not all of them have the common good in mind when helping this expedition. Remember, back in South Harbor there was a group or multiple groups that were trying to stop the WLA from being a part of the fleet. It would be very easy here to have someone change a map, plant a stake, and then embroil us in a real estate battle. If the WLA is concentrating on our claim, how much energy will any of us have to pay attention to those people who may need our help?"

The more she thinks of it, the more she is certain that the Fixers pulled all the strings in Rum and controlled things from unseen shadows. Thinking back to the map Map of Rum she remembers the light orage buildings were government related buildings, but somewhere in the back of her mind she thinks she remembers someone mentioning the black tower at the top of the map. It was unlabeled and unidentified, but she is almost certain it was related to the guards and the fixers.

Barratore, feeling such information is not likely to be useful turns his attentions to Scully feeling he is likely to have been bought off and therefore likely to have information. Turning to leave he "invites" Gerox to go with him, reguardless of the gnomes wishes.

Glad to be doing something and able to put his mind to the task, Brom picks up his sword and joins them, Let's do it, then.

Peza smiles to see the group working together so well and helps get the group organized, as well as putting the higher ranking Abuto to work organizing and recruiting the neighbors. She ponders how best to set up a new government and asks Abuto about the voice he heard. As he tells his story she immediately recognizes the voice he described as the one the League Adventurers had heard by the fountain right before the attack. The voice that cut off the fixers must have been heard throughout the city!

Edson agrees with the groups plans to find Scully, feeling he had always lookd shady and had reason to dislike the WLA and the League Adventurers.

As the groups Prepares to leave Peza and a few others help Hert with the burial. Once Hert finishes digging the grave, he helps Peza prepare Theringer's body. Wednesday November 20th, 2013 12:44:02 PM

The black tower awaits. But first ...

Harvest Moon stands at the side of the grave of the man who had recruited them into the Woldian League of Adventurers. He had been their shepherd. He had been their leader - one to look up to for guidance.

All things die. All things are born, they grow, and then they die. It is a journey. It is a circle. What comes to being returns to non-being. All of this Harvest Moon understands, both viscerally as well as intellectually. It is an odd thing for one so young as she to understand so completely. And yet, even with such an understanding, she cannot help the stirrings of sadness within her breast. Grief is an affliction on the living. The dead suffer no longer. And yet grief is. It exists. There is no denying it.

It is a curious juxtaposition - the quiet detachment that comes from an understanding of death's place within the order of nature, seated next to the wild and consuming fires of grief. It had been the same when Harvest Moon's mother had passed. She kneels next to the stone that Hert of Gargul had prepared to mark the grave of Captain Sal Theringer. From the ground she gathers a fistful of earth and throws it into the hole. All things die. His cares are no more now. He has gone now, leaving the League Adventurers behind.

Afterwards, Harvest Moon tells the others of her recollections of the governing bodies of Rum. She speaks of the black tower to the north and tells them that she will go to see whether or not any of the guards have survived and discover what plans they might have to keep order within Rum. But first, it could do no harm to accompany Barratore Steelwind and the Rager across the street to the compound of Scully's Heroes. They too had been investigating the warehouse. That alone says to Harvest Moon that they were not a part of the plot to slay the Fixers. It would be interesting to hear what they intend to do from here.

Harvest Moon takes a few minutes to both mourn and honor the passing of Theringer before relaying what se recalls from the map of Rum and the black tower. Although she feels the tower is where they will find the answer to what exactly has happened in Rum, she agrees to folllow the others to Scolly's first in order to get a little more information on what exactly they might be walking into.

"We stick together. Edson declares, feeling that until they know exactly who is with them and who is against the League Adventurers stickig together is your best chance of survival.

Barratore agrees. Although he doesn't feel Scully is up to the task of creating such an uprising, he is sure he had a part in it and was bought off or dead by know...and he wants to know which. As you approach Scully's directs Brom around back to guard the door.

Brom does as Barriatore suggests. Although he doesn't care about politics, attacking him and his home was a mistake they would pay for.

Peza, After paying her respects joins the others in heading over to Scully's, walking with determination as she follows after Barratore and Brom with Hert trailing close behind. "hey Scully you home ??? anybody there ? we need to talk "

There is silence as you wait for a response. The few citizens brave enough to walk the streets flee at your call for fear of another battle. After a minute Barratore catches a glimpse of a shadow moving through the window and knows that someone inside is watching you. What do you want? calls a voice from the other side of the door which you at once recognize as Scully's. Did ya join them? Take a job as their mindless lackeys and come here to finish us off? I swear by Jancassis' undying blade that if you betrayed this city we will end you, and if even think about crossing this threshold it will be the last thing you ever do!!!

"You are foolish! And always wrong, Scully Swiftblayde!" Harvest Moon does little to disguise her dislike for the man as she shouts and, with sleeves flapping, shakes her fists in anger at the door. "We tried our best to protect the Fixers. We destroyed the golems. We go now to seek the remnants of the law. We will stand with them and drive back these people who have brought such unrest to Rum."

"You should come too. Or run away from the city. If we win, you will be called cowards, hiding behind your door. If we lose, the others will come for you. Then your door, this place, it will become a trap for you."

"Do as you wish. I do not care. But do not oppose us or you will die sooner rather than later."

Harvest Moon's disdain for Scully is clear as she taunts him and calls him a coward while Gerox tries to calm her. From behind the door he calls back, Always jumping to the wrong conclusion aren't you? Who do you think it was that warned the people across the city? You think yours was the only battle in Rum? We killed more mercs than anyone and our warnings kept the innocent safe and allowed those able to prepare to defend their shops and homes. We may have lost the government, but we saved the city and we will be remembered. We just know when to cut our losses. You can tell by the pride in his voice at recounting the battle that his story is at least part true.

Gerox tries to be diplomatic as he offers Scully Swiftblayde and his bad assistance and an opportunity to join to join the League Adventurers. You fools, he laughs mockingly, although he is noticeably friendlier towards Gerox than Harvest. You still don't know who you are up against. This isn't a fight that can be won. Our goal was to persevere, not to win.

Sculley is the silent until Peza says her piece. In an uncharacteristically sympathetic manner he expresses his condolences for you loss. We too have lost many close to us, as I expect everyone in Rum has. We will do what we can to help restore and maintain the peace in Rum...You should go to the Fixer's tower. We didn't discover who was pulling the strings until right before the attack, but you will never believe me until you learn the truth for yourself. Tomorrow we will rebuild.

Edson continues to stand in the back with his bow waiting. He can hear the other's conversation, but nothing happens behind the building.

Barratore growls a bit in response to Scully, effectively ending the conversation. Calling to the others he decides it is time to visit the tower and cut to the heart of the matter, a decision that Hert quickly agrees with.

... we will be remembered ... Disgust growns in Harvest Moon as she sees the simillarities between the tri-bar and Scully's Heroes. Nothing but overgrown egoes obsessed with pride...
Turning her attention to the task at hand she casts long strider on herself and begins searching the streets for some unseen danger.

Brom and Barratore agree and turns towards the tower. They have their weapons and need little else along the lines of preperation. As they walk Brom asks Hert to heal the bruise he received from the golem.

Edson is unsuprised by the results of the conversation and says as much as the group heads towards the tower. As you walk Gerox moves next to Peza and suggests the groups do everything in their power to avoid another conflict. "Somehow I doubt we are ready to take on the folks who tried to over throw the current government."

The tower looms overhead long before you, the ghastly marble pillars towering over the city. You had never paid the building much attention before, but now you cannot help but envisioning those inside looking down upon the city. So far seperated from the pain and destruction they have caused.

As you approach you notice all of the guards now bear the tri-bar emblem and move freely about the city, some of whom you recognize as established protectors of the city while other faces are new to you. The changes to the city are minor, but everything seems tainted with a loathsome contagion, and inspired by a noxious alliance with distorted hidden powers. The guard's uniforms are now a royal purple and any signs or notices depicting the Fixers have been removed from public viewing.

The giant square around the tower is prestine. Either no fighting took place here or any evidence of such unpleasantries has already been removed. Every road is flaked by guards and several pairs bearing the tri-bar symbol and several more pairs move about freely as they patrol. They leave you alone, but clearly are keeping an eye one you. In the very center, staring up at the tower stands a tall half-orc. Half-orcs are rare enough in the city, with their slightly pointed ears and long sharp teeth, but this one stands out with his blue-gray skin, the likes of whch you have never seen before. There is no doubt that this is your first time seeing him in the city. Harvest Moon's keen eyes quickly notice the three weapons at his side. A dagger, a crossbow, and a well polished falchion .

They have prepared. (Whoever "They" may be.) There is law. There is a guard. Only one thing, then remains to be determined.

Harvest Moon joins the unknown half-orc, his face tipped up toward the heights of the dark tower. She stands next to him and turns her face to the same heights. She, a much smaller shadow of the half-orc's bulk dressed in an oversized robe of sea green.

"I wonder," she says, as though to no one in particular, "why it was that they did it? Why did they send their giants to attack the People in the mountains? Why did they spill so much blood today?"

"We came to Rum with the first ships. The Fixers were our friends. It was their magic that created much of the city. They were always fair. We never heard them speak of rule. They only worked to build the city."

"But we have been gone from Rum very often," she continues. "The city is much changed from the way I remember it. All things change," says the small half-elven girl in a voice flat and devoid of emotion. "I would have an accounting from the Three Bars," she says. "For the lives of the catpeople that they slew. For the Fixers that they slew. For the grief that they have sewn today. I would have their reasons," she says as she stands next to the half-orc, speaking to the air.

Barratore glares at any guard willing to make eye contact with him, daring them to draw steel on him. For his part, Barratore already has his sword in hand. Barratore disagrees, "Not outclassed, but surely outnumbered."

How had it happened? Theringer had said there were many demonstrations and folks with the tri-bar insignia had been grabbed in multiple instances. He had said there was never anything overtly dangerous. Something was terribly missed, or perhaps a multitude of small things were not connected.

"We assume the Fixers were firmly in charge and that position might be inherently flawed. Their grip may have been weak or even flawed."

Barratore stops with the others by the half Orc. The fighter looks him over for a symbol of anykind and then Barratore continues towards the tower.

Barratore is a large powerfully built minotaur with a large barrel chest, powerful arms and thick legs. He appears designed for one task, combat. His eyes are large black orbs, with a black diamond mark between them that stretches from the top of his head to his snout. His fur is a reddish brown with streaks of black as well. Barratore dresses in well kept Breastplate armor with an oil skinned leather cloak, a brown waist coat that comes to about mid thigh with pockets, a belt pouch and pack.

It might as well been a direct declaration of war. It might not be today, but at some point all responsible would die by his blade.

Brom sees the half-orc. He doesn't care much one way or the other. Like Barratore, he looks the half-orc over and continues to the tower.

The rest of the team that was supposed to join him here? Who knows... Whatever the crisis was that had concerned the Fixers enough for them to call for reinforcements from the WLA in Plateau City... it appears that crisis has already overtaken them.

There are signs of recent fighting all over town, and all normal business has come to a halt. Armed men in unfamiliar uniforms are everywhere. The Tri-Bars. That's what he's heard people call them, speaking in frightened voices. Whatever they're up to, this tower appears to be a center of activity. As he approaches it, he notices a small group of people gathered nearby. While they are armed, they don't appear to be part of this new army...

A short woman and a Gnome break off from the group and approach him. The lady rambles on about the horrors these Tri-Bars have perpetrated, while the other questions him directly...

Edson immediately sees the danger of being surrounded and whispers a word of warning the the League Adventurers spurring Barratore to scan the half-orc for any tri-bar markings. He and Brom agreeing that the group was out numbered, but that their superior skill and cooperation gave them the edge.

Peza does her best to try to understand the chaos and destruction that took place, but finds further investigation is in order. Whoever was behind the coup was clearly well organized and managed to keep any information from leaking out about the plans. As she ponders this Gerox approaches the strange figure and immediately tries to make friends. There is a moment of tension, but everyone relaxes as they discover he had no part in the combat and was a fellow WLA member.

After a moment's discussion the group offers to direct him to the compound, or given the circumstances, stay with them for the time being. Looking about at the armed guards and seeing the shops opening back up gives some the urge to go shopping while others are determined to learn who was behind the attack.

ooc: All players except Zalmay get 6,826 xp for the scene and one Hero Point for not running from any battle and doing everything in their power to save the Fixers. At this time you can nominate another player for consideration of an additional Hero Point if you feel they did something particularly heroic or clever. If enough people post I will post again tomorrow (Thanksgiving Day in the USA), if not I will wait until Friday.

At this time you are free to go to the Catacombs, continue investigating, or rest and regroup for the night and head out fresh in the morning.

"So you were sent to our assistance? Great timing. I'm Hert, a cleric, an Eye of Gargul, God of Life and Death. Used to be the newest member of this team. I apologize for our attitude. We have lost someone very dear to many of us. What do you do by trade?"

As you ponder what to do Zalmay takes a look at the magical items and identifies the jeweled sword as a sword of spell storing, noting that what ever spell had been held in it was discharged during the battle. Next he picks up the hat and at once realizes it is a hat of disguise which allows the wearer to change theri appearance, Lastly he examines the Great Axes as having a +2 enhancement bonus. Gerox double checks the half-orc's work and can find no mistakes in his deductions.

You stand in the circle slightly taken aback at the spoils you collected. The value of some of the items catch you off guard. You find yourselves unused to such wealth and unsure how to calculate its worth and split the loot up evenly. It isn't until a small boy finds his way into the circle and grabs your attention that you realize how engrossed in the conversation you were.

Excuse me, I have a message for you from Abuto Anfri at the WLA. I'm glad you are wearing your sashes, it made finding you a little easier. The boy waits expectantly for a tip as you read the letter.

When you are finished investigating at the tower, please return to the compound. The recent battle has lead to several fortunate developments.

Just then the messenger arrives and interrupts him...

Harvest Moon favors the boy with a curious look, even as she quickly reads the contents of the message from the corner of her eye. The message is easily understood. The boy is not. He shows no signs in his behavior of the terrible things that have happened today. He comes casually to the place of greatest danger with murderers all around. And yet, his concern seems only with receiving a gratuity for the delivery of this message.

Harvest Moon says nothing to the boy. She simply turns and leaves him behind. "There is no plan going forward, Zalmay Tufan," she says in reply to the half-orc. "Things are as you see them." With a sweep of her hand she indicates the bodies - the blood running in the streets. "The Three Bars have slaughtered the founders of the city. The claim that we hear is of despotism."

"There appears to be order now." Harvest Moon pauses in her march to the dark tower and indicates the many Three Bar guardsmen. "We go to get answers from those who have established this new order."

Grim-faced, the small half-elfish girl turns and continues into the black tower. There will be answers for the death that has come to Rum today.

After hearing about the recent events in the city Zalmay decides that joining this group is the best chance in prosper in Rum. After all, the group seems trustworthy and are members of the WLA. He then asks about recent events as Gerox attempts to settle his debts and Hert examins the jewled sword and thinks about how he could put it to use.

When the messenger arrives Harvest Moon reads the message out of the corner of her eye as she observes the delivery boy. His lack of fear given recent events lead her to believe he must have been spared the horrors of the day, likely kept indoors and out of sight as the fighting took place. Possibly the organizers of the attack took percautions to keep innocents such as him away from the battle, and the fact that the WLA sent him indicates that the organization does not fear another attack for the time being. Ignoring the boy, she explains to Zalmay what little they have put together about events then moves to head towards the black tower followed close behind by Brom the Barbarian.

As she moves out Edson explains why Harvest Moon is heading to the tower and half warns / half dares the new comer to follow them. The comment makes Barratore chuckle as he waits for Peza's signal to follow. Sensing the half-orc is trustworthy, Peza welcomes Zalmay to the group and directs the rest of you toward the tower. As you leave Gerox reminds everyone to keep out of trouble and that the purpose of this trip to to gather information only. Behind you the boy looks disappointed by the lack of a tip and returns back in the direction of the WLA.

Before you the black marble stone bulk rises dark and ominously from the cobblestone pavement. Although you have passed the building numerous times in the past, never before has it felt so unwelcoming and foreboading. It soon becomes clear that this is all the closer to the tower you are going to get; for upon the wide, iron-railed, cold stone steps leading to raised entryway fully six feet above the surrounding streets stand several grim and titanic looking guards with pikes crossed infront of the doors. The Powers of Rum will not see anyone until further notice. Please go about your bussiness. Despite the guard's "please", it is perfectly clear that this is not a request.

Gerox mouth drops open as Harvest attacks, shouting "This was supposed to be a recon mission! Gather intelligence! What are you thinking! Put up your swords you idiots!" He quickly backs away from the fight, along with Edson and Hert, as a shocked Zalmay cast grease under the guards feet.

"Rum is a free city ... or at least was till the so called powers decided to usurp the city of the people " Barks Peza at the guards ... Suddenly the guard speaks with such command and the authority that only comes from uncounted battles that everything else melts away and you are forced to listen.

The POWERS have no interest in ruling you or your town. Their business was their own until the Fixers invaded their lands and set up this "perfectly planned" city with no freedom, refusing to acknowledge the Powers of this land, and showing unfathomable disrespect to those so close to being gods. Now that they are free the people may rule themselves as they choose. Now be gone.

The threat of superior forces. It is not a thing that Harvest Moon is unaccustomed to. To survive one fights or one flees. In violent and uncertain lands of the Contested Kingdoms, she had more often fled than fought.

All things change. The league died with Captain Sal Theringer. Her one regret is ... Harvest Moon takes one last look at the people who she has come to know as friends. They had come far from Plateau City to build new lives in this far off land.

All things die. Even dreams.

The small half-elf rolls into a wary crouch. With scuttling steps and furtive eyes, she backs away. The sky. It comes to take her. Harvest Moon steals one last look at her friends. "Farewell." It is a short and simple word, but one that she imbues with all the wealth of feeling that she holds for them.

Then Harvest Moon is gone. Simply gone.

Barratore glares back at the guard, and thunders in retort. "That is precisely what I intend to accomplish by killing you and the evil murdering cowards that you serve. Evil is victorious only when good is cowed to stand by and watch. I will not do so as Ga'al or Jancassis, Marteus or any other of the vile betrayers attempt to stretch forth their hand you cowardly murdering pig son of a kobold!"

Barratore steps back out of their immediate reach and picks up his weapon.

"You murder through cowardly attacks and then flee to a tower and now claim that we should simply sit back and accept your benevolent rule? To piss upon you would show more respect than I ever shall to you or the whores you serve."

Barratore growls as he sets his feet and grows to twice his normal height.

Hello! (DM Donna)
Friday December 6th, 2013 4:01:17 PM

Hello! My name is DM Donna. You killed my father. Prepare to die!

(ahem)

This is an Official OOC Post to let you players know a couple of things:

First, I am the new co-DM for the game, here to help DM James out with the story that is unfolding.

Second, I am going to need ALL the help that I can get, because I need to understand where your merry band of WLA members are coming from and how they are currently perceiving Rum's (and their own) situation.

I'll be sending out an email shortly, but for now...how about if the group--realizing something has very drastically changed while their attention has been focused on your previous adventure. Logic would prompt that you all report to the WLA HQ location and check to see what the League has to say about it.

Sorry about this bit of OOC "Deus-Ex-Machina", as it were, but I want to make sure that I fully understand this campaign and the situations unfolding in it before we do things like have a 6th/7th level group split itself apart on the topic of possibly attacking Level 20 NPC guards who really haven't done anything accept make a mysterious public statement.

Hey guys, I've been brought in to help with a few things in Rum. So, I'm putting a CDM stop on this game for a few days, while I consult with your DMs.

I will send you an email tonight or tomorrow.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Feel free to enjoy the Giggling Ghost holiday event while you wait.

Barratore's mind is over whelmed at the turn of events at the Tower. Everything had been thrown into chaos. Harvest was gone, the group save for Brom, was siding with those who had just executed a bloody insurrection and Theringer was speaking from the Shadow realm in his mind. The Wold had gone mad or perhaps he had.

Barratore backs away from the tower, covered in the fog. He maintains the Enlargement though, as well as is guard and his silence.

The Rule of Rum had been violently and cowardly destroyed by assassins and murderers and those same had attacked the Cat People as well. There would be a reckoning and there would be justice done upon them. He and Brom would see it done, the others could do as they will.

"Brom, let us return to our original plan."

Barratore hopes Brom knows he refers to leaving Rum for the Cat People. With that Barratore moves swiftly back to the compound to remove anything he thinks he, Borm, or The People might need .
