The Old Tannery (DM Cayzle) Wednesday November 20th, 2013 10:27:32 PM
In private, the group debates the course before them. Tuck and Ariach have the greatest reservations, and will require proof of perfidy before attacking the drow. Still, Ariach has some empathy for the lich, and Tuck understands the threat the undead thing poses.
Emrys and Wilma would prefer to attack Indicio, but agree to embark on the task, lacking better options.
Alleah's brain works differently, and she finds her thoughts turning to opportunities at hand. She finds herself in possession, most satisfactorily, of a stoneware mug, glazed grey outside and red in.
Van and Grell are quiet, but agree to go along.
In the morning, biscuits and cider are brought to the room, and before midmorning, a servant beckons and leads you along. As the lich told you, you are led to an old tannery. You may imagine that decades earlier, when this tannery was in operation, it's products were not limited to those of Underwold animals. A ghost of some ancient stench still pollutes the street immediately around this structure
Knowledge Local DC12 or Craft Leather DC5: Highlight to display spoiler: {Tanning requires large quantities of dung and urine, producing a smell so foul even rats are repelled.}
The faint odor of urine and feces blends to create a stomach-churning aroma around this run-down, single-story sturcture of limestone and granite. There is a yawning doorway.
Entrance order, please? Spells prepped for the day, and cast at this point?
Grell, AC18/13/16, HP52/68 Protection from Evil, Fatigued 1/12 Wednesday November 20th, 2013 10:56:16 PM
Grell sighs. The group has pretty well decided that this is the action they will persue, so he doesn't see a reason to fight it. Still, he adds his agreement to Tuck's points. "Yup, I agree with Tuck. If I get there and she's not all evil like, I'm not gonna play the thug."
OOC: Sorry about yesterday...we've had a algebra crisis at the Knotts household recently. :(
DM Ezra: Have you reviewed your daughter's sheet yet? I believe she is ready and we can see about getting her workedinto the story.

The first thing Alleah does upon waking is bang her head on the bed above her, eliciting a quiet "Ow!" from the halfling.
After stretching and cleaning herself up a bit she is ready to head out.
The tannery certainly has one of the more repugnant smells to it. "Try not to breathe too deeply. The smell here is the result of the tanning process and is bad enough to repel some rats" (Untrained Craft Leather check vs DC5: 19 = Pass)
Alleah is happy to take up a scouting position at the front of the pack, the little halfling girl blending in to the shadows as best she can (Stealth: 31, Perception: 18)

Did you all listen to anything I said back there. I said that there is nothing saying that we have to kill her, and I am not in favor of that either unless it is warranted. However I expect we will find more than enough evidence that she is as evil and warped as has been stated.
Van about gags as the smell assaults her nose, whatever it is, Knowledge DC 5, and she quickly pulls a rag out and ties it around her face to filter out some of the odor even if it is after the fact.
"Yee gads that is an awful smell. I hope we are out of it soon."
Tuck HP 49/49 AC 21/21/17 d20+2=17 ; d20+11=14 ; Thursday November 21st, 2013 5:29:01 PM

He takes up a position behind Alleah, allowing her to scout but prepared to rush in an utilize his mobility to get to any potential threats quicker.
Ariach AC 26/14/19 ; HP 69/69 d20+5=20 ; Thursday November 21st, 2013 7:49:56 PM
Ariach screws up his noise when he smells the bad smell. (local knowledge=20)
Before they enter the room he proposes to positon himself close to Wilma and Emry who are the less protected members within the group.
Wilma; AC17 (+1 Mithril chain shirt); HP 51/51; Share Language Thursday November 21st, 2013 9:12:32 PM
Wilma is resolute and rather introspective...probably more so than usual. She will abide by whatever lineup Van recommends.
OOC: haven't had the time to review my CS--I'm pretty sure that Wilma is going to want to make sure she's got more protection spells available to her than she normally has at her disposal. Personal events are even now calling me away...I see a very simple post for my other PC in the Wold.
Emrys ac13, hp28/28. prestidigitation, deathwatch d20+10=15 ; d20+14=26 ; Thursday November 21st, 2013 9:28:41 PM
Emrys places a scented handkerchief to his nose and mouth as the stench becomes too much to bare. He comments to Vaniime, "I don't believe they listened to me as well."
(Knowledge [local]: 15, blah, but good enough. Perception: 26, to notice anything dangerous.)
"Oh yes, uhh, what would we do without the rats," Emrys says sarcastically. "We should probably be more concerned with spiders, if the coins we found hold any truth."
(ooc. Emrys will stay in the center of the group. He casts Prestidigitation and Deathwatch.)
Grell, AC18/13/16, HP52/68 Protection from Evil, Fatigued 1/12 Thursday November 21st, 2013 11:27:07 PM
Even for the most resolved of orcs, *THIS* stench was almost unbearable. With a slight gagging noise, Grell takes up a secondary position after the scout. With his sword at the ready, Grell does his best not to be too distracted by the awful stench.
OOC:Dm Ezra, I'm hoping to review the sheet tomorrow. We've had a rather (cough) unexpected bout of "you really need to get your math grade up" itis. Last retest for Genevieve is tomorrow, and *then* she should have more (non math related) free time. I'll review the sheet at work tomorrow and get the back story up.
The Old Tannery (DM Cayzle) Thursday November 21st, 2013 11:30:01 PM
You enter, as directed by Indicio's silent servant. A stronger stink fills this wide building. Yellow-green luminescence clings to every surface, outlining dozens of wide clay vats that cover large portions of the floor. Dilapidated tables along the walls are stained with the outlines of stretched hides, some humanoid in shape. On the southern wall is a glowing green stain in the shape of a three-fingered hand. Sitting beneath the stain, its back supported by the wall, is a humanoid figure whose identity is lost in filthy rags.
The figure leaps to his feet, revealing a drow beggar. His skin is pocked and covered in weeping sores, and his eyes are puffy with a burning fever. His voice is harsh and sibilant, and he speaks in Undercommon: "I am Domi, Lord of Strength! I see what will be, and I see the end of existence!"

Domi stares hard, Kneel before your LORD! For I have the Strength of TEN!
It seems weird that he is waiting for reactions...
Tuck HP 49/49 AC 21/21/17 Friday November 22nd, 2013 9:15:13 PM
Tuck gives the beggar an odd look. "What's he saying? Are we about to have a fight?"
It's dubious to the monk that this man could pose a threat, but perhaps he was a lookout calling others to attack.
Ariach AC 26/14/19 ; HP 69/69 Saturday November 23rd, 2013 5:51:14 AM
Ariach prepares for an ambush when the beggar comes insight. But when he hears the name of Domi out of the unknown prattling he gets excited.
"What does he say Emry? Is he a worshipper of Domi?"
Wilma; AC17 (+1 Mithril chain shirt); HP 51/51; Comp. Language d20+10=27 ; Saturday November 23rd, 2013 10:12:25 AM
Wilma--now under the auspices of her own Comprehend Languages spell--tilted her head as she regarded the haggard-looking person claiming to be an avatar of Domi, sifting her own brain about the facts she learned in regards to the god of combat's religion in order to gauge the likelihood of the person before them actually being whom he claimed.
OOC: Wilma's made a Knowledge: Religion check to see if this guy might really be Domi. She got a 27.
"He says he IS Domi," she translated in Common, "Although I should think it was rather...unusual for him to be in this place in this form at this time. There are three possibilities that come to my mind right off: he's lying...he's an illusion...or he's Domi." The redhead thought for a moment.
"My lord Domi," Wilma addressed the Drow before them in Undercommon, "If this servant of Gargul may ask--how is it that you're here...in a tannery...looking like a beggar...? It's not your usual...mortal form."
Vaniime AC 18/14/15, HP:50/52, Saturday November 23rd, 2013 10:16:58 AM
Actually he is saying that he is Domi, Ariach, which is interesting as if he were this would not be one of his normally used human forms and I see nothing that would indicate that he even truly knows who Domi is.... He appears more like the pictures we were shown of Marteus' supposed avatar form.
Grell, AC18/13/16, HP68/68 Saturday November 23rd, 2013 5:40:20 PM
Grell looks over at the "Domi" in the tannery, then shoots a glance at Vaniime. "Uhhh..so like should we bow or something? Because this is so totally weird!! 'Cus I ain't no genius, but this guy sure looks like that Marteus guy like you said." Grell rubs his chin. "Of course...I did skip more than a couple of religion classes..."
Grell watches and listens for what Wilma's answer might be, still unsure how this is going to go down.
RobC - Alleah Lighttouch AC 15/15/11 -- CMD 15 -- HP 44/44 Sunday November 24th, 2013 5:27:06 AM
Alleah just raises an eyebrow. To her, this man appears simply delusional from his disease or a fever. She sees zero possibility that this individual could be Domi himself.
Emrys ac13, hp28/28. prestidigitation, deathwatch d20+12=26 ; d20+10=13 ; d20+10=12 ; Sunday November 24th, 2013 8:55:27 PM
(OOC: those who have Share Language cast on them should still benefit from the spell. It lasts a full 24 hours, not to the final gong of midnight. Im assuming Emrys cast it yesterday afternoon.)
In undercommon, "Greetings oh great and powerful Domi. It is a pleasure to finally meet you." He's not sure if he has ever heard of drow worshipping Domi. It feels so incredibly odd that a drow so pathetic and so far removed from the surface would know of the gods of Wold.
(Diplomacy: 26. Knowledge [Religion]: 13, to recall drow worshipping Domi. Knowledge [Local]: 12, blah!, to recall if he had noticed any temples to the gods while they traveled through the streets to the Tannery.)

OOC: This is a new day, friends. I expect most of yesterday's spells have expired, no? Also, I still need casters to list their spells and available slots.
Alleah hides and tries to sense the motives of the strange "Domi" fellow. Alas, she does not met the requisite DC20 for a hunch.
Tuck does not think the begger is a threat.
Ariach is excited, but Wilma is pretty darn sure this is NOT Domi.
Van and Grell think he looks more like Marteaus!
Emrys plays along. The fellow answers passionately: "I am Domi, Lord of Strength! I see what will be, and I see the end of existence!" He sighs. "See there? It punches up from the deep core to the sunburned surface, rising higher and higher, until it is lost in the whiste mists that shroud the top of the world! What is it? Not alive, not quite. It is a glyph scribed obelisk wrapped in eternal storm, hollowing and inhabited by slimy creatures whose hunger can never be sated!"
Ariach AC 26/14/19 ; HP 69/69 Monday November 25th, 2013 6:18:51 PM
Although he isnīt able to understand what the begger says, Ariach again hears "Domi" out of the words.
"What does he say? I have never expected a worshipper of Domi in such a hostile environment. Does he need any help?"
Seeking for help the warrior looks at Wilma and Emry.

She feels pity for the poor creature and takes a loaf of bread from her pack. "Perhaps 'Domi' here knows the way to this drow matron we're looking for? He may even make a fine guide. Can someone ask 'Domi' here if he is hungry?" Alleah holds the loaf of bread out to the drow.

Emrys considers what he just heard, 'this pitiful creature repeats himself... as if programmed to do so,' he thinks. Emrys then gazes at the dark elf with his necromantic eyes (deathwatch) to see if he is alive or illusion. After translating what Domi had said, he gives his friends a shrug of confusion (unless his eyes reveal the dark elf not to exist).

Ariach gets really angry when he finds out the begger isnīt a worshipper of Domi but thinks he is Domi himself. This is clear blasphemy.
Obviously reaching into a pocket Vaniime rem, oves 5 silver pieces and "accidently" makes sure that "Domi" sees them. If they seem to catch his eye, she casually tosses them to an area well away from him and the wall where they need to go, hoping that he is no more than he seems and goes after them.

As best as you can figure, the stranger is a crazed beggar. In answer to Emrys' questions, he says, ""I wish the bugs in my hair would stop yelling.""
Does his evident madness make Ariach less angry?
He takes Alleah's bread and Van's coins and scurries off -- and Wilma has just enough time to sense that he has a minor magic item on him.
Do you follow or let him go? Grell was fine with letting him go ... before you knew about the magic item.
In the meantime, Tuck sees the hand-shaped stain on the wall. If you did not know what to look for, you would likely not notice it. But since you are looking, you see that this is clearly it.
About 20 minutes after you arrive, the lich's servant -- who has been following you all along -- waves at you to use the oil on the stain NOW!

Emrys ac13, hp28/28. prestidigitation, deathwatch Wednesday November 27th, 2013 5:49:41 PM
(ooc: sorry, didn't have a single private moment all day long yesterday to post.)
Emrys is glad Alleah took the honor and applied the oil. The foul stench of this place has sullied him enough. Anything else, like that putrid oil, would have sent him over the edge. A simple bath can purify him from the stain of this place, but his constant suspicious mistrust of everything around him has no foreseeable cure. The poor bard was actually considering the beggar to be an illusionary agent placed by an supremely evil mastermind. Sometimes a beggar is just a beggar. 'Pull yourself together, buddy boy,' Emrys thinks to himself. 'Buddy boy?'
"We shouldn't be angry with that poor soul, for his irreverence. We should pity him and all those who suffer from such profound discombobulation. As of late, I understand him better than I should."
After a short pause, a wicked smile forms across his face, "However, I am so very glad he left the stage. It's a good thing you're all blind to the tiny auras of life creeping and crawling over his entire body. Egad!"
The Old Tannery (DM Cayzle) Wednesday November 27th, 2013 11:26:47 PM
The oil creates the effect of a Passwall spell, and a magical corridor opens up in front of you.
Following the passwall, you discover a wet, sloped tunnel, which goes right and left.
If you can make a Survival check vs DC25, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {It is hard to tell because the tunnel is damp and drippy, but you think no one has come this way in years.}
A welcome relief from the odor of the tannery above, thsi place smells of damp earth and stone. It's a passage that slopes slightly upward to the north (let) and downward to the south (right). Ages of dripping water have birthed stalagmites and stalactites that line the tunnel like teeth, and tiny rivulets of water burble down the passage, off into darkness.
The 10-foot-wide descending tunnel wends its way south and right. The ascending tunnel of the same width winds slowly northeast and upward.
You were told, "Go right, then follow the tunnel to its highest point. You'll come to the doorway of the chamber used by Matron Ulvirjss for her arts."

OOC: For the marching order, Grell would prefer to be up front...probably behind Alleah and Vaniime.
Breathing in the fresher air, Grell unsheathes his sword and paces back and forth. He whispers to Tuck "I guess now we get to find out if this chick is as bad as everyone says."
(If we are in total darkness) Emrys takes his bullseye lantern and sets the aperture for a dim setting. He then casts a Light spell into it. To free up his hand, he then summons an Unseen Servant to carry it for him. He then whispers his command to follow along his master and aim it at the floor just ahead of the group.
If there is time, he will cast Resistance on himself and the group. Two of his attempts fizzle, but thankfully he can cast this spell as many times as he wants.

Alleah stops abruptly and raises her hand in the air. She draws a circle in the air and then points at the ground, hoping the others understand her silent communication.
Her first instinct is to stop and disable the trap (and perhaps pocket the wires) but then she has another thought. If the party gets into a fight they may be able to use this trap to their advantage.
She carefully steps over the wires and continues scouting. (Perception: 33, Stealth: 41. Two move actions at half speed = 20ft)

All the floating dust floating around threatens to instigate the world's loudest sneeze from the warrior. Grell rubs furiously at his nose. Casting his gaze around at the rear, Grell tries to see if there seems to be anything that might become a problem (Perception=20). He shifts his weight from foot to foot in typical bored Grell mode, anxiously anticipating what they are going to find further down the hall. In years past, the warrior probably would have blurted out something in his impatience, but as Ganz would say, time is the ultimate teacher, and so Grell waits in silence.

Emrys truly hopes that Alleah is careful. No reason to take unnecessary risks. To make sure everyone sees the tripwire that the rogue had pointed out, once he is in range he uses Prestidigitation to color the wire a bright yellow.
Whispering in Wilma's ear, "I wouldn't bother asking others for your protection. The ones who need it the most won't ask for it."

In his impatience, Grell almost forgets his sister's offer of the Protection from Evil spell. As they approach the hidden doorway (I assume it's okay to use the Percept 20 from last round), Grell schooches closer to Wilma and whispers "Hey, give me a hit of that wand...I got a feeling it's going to come in handy." Grell watches the action up at the front of the group with anticipation...curious as to what is going to happen on the other side.
By the time Emrys unknowingly approaches the secret door, that Alleah has yet to point out, a faint, unnerving sound is caught by his pointed ears. A sound of sadness and suffering. Emrys softly whispers, "I hear something behind the wall!" He then points in its direction.

Dim light reveals iron maidens, racks, and other intricate contraptions in alcoves and spaced throughout the room. The northeastern alcove is closed off with bars, and two forlorn gray-skinned gnomes stare out from behind them. Near the northern wall stands a stone altar adorned with intricate carvings of spiders, snakes, and scorpions. Atop the altar is another gray gnome who whimpers as she struggles feebly against the manacles holding her.

The Torture Chamber of the Drow (DM Cayzle) Round 0 Thursday December 5th, 2013 1:42:44 PM
Alleah nudges the door a bit, setting off the alarm. The response is immediate -- the door slides to one side. The torture chamber is revealed. And there is a crash as coals from a brazier by the door are scattered on the floor in front of the door!
You see six people within.
Three thin pasty gnomes, clearly prisoners, are bound ... two in cells to the northwest behind bars; one bound to an altar to the north.
Also at the altar is a female drow (Drow 1). She casts a spell and touches the gnome, who wails in horror and then dies.
A male drow (Drow 3) is near the secret door. He is the one who splashed the coals on the floor. He is holding a red-hot poker.
Another male (Drow 2) in the center of the room draws and loads a crossbow.

Now we enter the first round of combat. Please post your actions. Note that the section of floor with the coals is difficult terrain, so it takes 10 ft of movement to cross it, AND you have to make a Reflex DC13 save to avoid stepping on coals and taking 1d6 fire damage. The Torture Chamber of the Drow (DM Cayzle) Round 0 Friday December 6th, 2013 5:34:30 PM
OOC as I put the turn together ...
Ariach, you say you are following Wilma and Emrys. But Emrys is not moving, and Wilma has not posted! Also, are you just taking a double move into the room, or a single move and some other action?
Remember that you can easily move THROUGH a friend so long as you do not END MOVE in the friend's space.
Tuck, you are avoiding the AoO from moving through the coals, but you are then walking right by Drow 3! Your further movement is provoking AoOs ... and your monk move gives you move to spare ... so you might as well try to save vs the coals. Your Mobility feat helps with these AoOs anyway.
Van, you can scatter the coals as a standard action while also moving to your destination so you are fine.
I'll let Van move in after Tuck, so no one moving after Van has to worry about the coals. See what a nice DM I am!
Emrys, starting a performance is a standard action (at your current level) so you can still make a move if you like.
Note that Van and Grell both posted that they wanted to move to M6. Any revisions? Please don't both say the same square again!
Alleah, you also have a move action to take if you like.
Hopefully we'll get these resolved, Wilma will post, and I'll get a map up this weekend. Thanks everybody!

Tuck rushes into the room, stepping on some hot coals, but not caring (takes 3 hp damage). He also rushes by the guard with the red hot poker, which he sees is sharp on one edge. The torture assistant (drow 3) takes a swipe at Tuck as tuck races by. The assistant hits AC20, just missing Tuck's AC21!
Then Tuck is on the drow matron, who has just killed a gnome of some kind. He attacks, and just exactly hits! He does 6 damage to her, and he sees that under her robes she is wearing heavy armor.
Van casts Resist Fire, scatters the coals, and moves past the torture assistant, who does not attack her. She steps onward to M5.
Emrys begins a performance to inspire courage, and remains in the hall.
Grell steps up, attacks a torture assistant, and misses.
Wilma steps forward to get a view into the room, then fires a scorching ray that misses. [OOC: Note that you also take a -4 firing into melee unless you have the precise shot feat.]
Ariach stays at the rear to stand guard.

"Suppose we show you the same mercy that you showed that guy there, indicating the prisoner she just stabbed as they came in."
Tuck, Make sure she is gagged as well. She is a spell caster.

"Wilma check these two if they aren't dead treat their wounds so they don't die bind and gag them and lock them in an empty cell.",
Emrys ends his poem, with the prevailing soundlessness of the combat zone, it's safe to assume a Silence spell had been cast and those within the area will no longer benefit from it. He sees the matron mouthing her words. "She surrenders!? Such audacity, she has the gall to beg for mercy!"
He turns and moves closer (M5) to the two gnomes in their cages. In the gnome language, he asks, "Dear gnomes! Tell me, does the Matron deserve our mercy? And please, tell us why and be specific!"

OOC to Van: Your charge did not provoke an AoO from your target, but from the other drow whose threatened space you passed through to get to your target.
The drow matron proves a willing captive. Tuck easily pins her, since she is not resisting. He prevents her from speaking. Van gags her.
Wilma sees that one drow is dead and the other unconscious. Emrys confirms this with his spell. The gnomes, he senses are also relatively close to death, ie, quite wounded. The gnome on the altar is dead.
The gnomes beg to be let out and freed. They do not say anything about the drow.
Sense Motive DC20: Highlight to display spoiler: {You sense they are too terrified to speak of her. They do not even look her way.}
Perception DC10: Highlight to display spoiler: {You see clear signs that the pale, thin gnomes have been put to the test.}
The drow vestments and altar are clearly devoted to Jancassis, a god that the drow are known to honor.
Note that we are in combat rounds, and Alleah's action to prepare to seal the door is noted. What's the duration on that Grease, BTW?
Ariach sees no dangers from his vantage point in the doorway ... YET!

It's easy to spot the signs of torture when you look hard enough. A burn mark here...a cut there...and there..and there (Percept-nat 20). Grell spits toward the captured drow matron as he heads over to the door to backup Alleah (R7 or R8, wherever she needs him). Sheathing his sword, Grell works with Alleah to seal the door with the piton (Aid roll-31). After he finishes with the door, Grell turns toward Vaniime. "Okay, I'm convinced...she's a bad apple. Ariach doesnīt like what he sees. Too many dead corpses lay in the room. Furtunately none of his friends is dead or badly injured.

Tuck notices the state of the gnomes and adds it to the tally of the gnome he watched Ulvirjss kill. She was cruel and deserved justice. But how was justice served in this city beneath the earth?
He looks directly into the Matron's eyes as he calmly says, "I have rope in my satchel if someone could get to it. We'll tie her up. Should she determine to call for help or escape, I'll break her neck. Then we won't have to worry about her slowing us down."
Tuck keeps her pinned while someone binds her with his, or someone else's, rope. (Grapple 28)
"Let's see what she has to say for herself." Emrys makes a single clap with his hands and then rubs them together. A burst of energy crackles in his hand as he walks over to the matron. "Fear not, Matron," he says in undercommon, "this will not hurt you. I curse you with Insatiable Truthfulness." Emrys then reaches out and touches her.
"These poor gnomes, they're too scared to even talk!" He then asks the Matron, "Explain yourself, you wicked wretch, what have you done here! Where are the keys to the cages?"

OOC: Friends, I'm sorry my posting is irregular. But at least I'm getting five DM Posts in a week, right? :-)
Grell and Alleah jam the door solidly shut.
Wilma offers her spell to speak with the dead, but does not yet cast it.
Ariach guards the door through which you came, and beckons to the captive gnomes, but their cells are barred and locked.
Tuck and Van bind and gag the drow matron.
Emrys cleverly tries to compel the drow to speak the truth. She tries to resist the curse but cannot. [250 xp bonus to Emrys for the great idea!] [rolled a 17 vs the spells DC18!] However, her gag will have to be removed unless you just want her to nod yes or shake no.
The gnomes implore you to release them, speaking in undercommon, and tell you that the downed male drow have the keys.

She begins with the unconscious one, hoping to raid him before he awakens. (Move to P5. Perception to search him: 35. Emrys' smile returns, a very smug smile. Or is it a smirk, who is to say? His expression, no matter how satisfied or wicked it was, quickly returns to a more unsympathetic and derisive appearance. Before the interrogation begins, he does what Tuck had suggested, he quickly reaches down and takes the rope from the monk's satchel. "Servant ... take the rope and bind this woman's hands and feet," he commands his invisible minion.
"Vaniime, I agree, however we should at least have her hands bound before removing the gag."
He then turns back to the drow woman and asks, in her language, "Are you Matron Ulvirjss? Nod if this is true!"

Alleah has no idea what Emrys is saying to the drow. He seems quite smart so no doubt he is asking the right questions. Probably best to leave him alone to do his thing. Though she is quite good at bluffing people, a 2ft 4in halfling is probably not intimidating enough for an interrogation.

Wilma, now that their prisoners are secure, goes to the gnomes and speaks to them with the help of her active Comprehend Languages spell.
"We will help you, but you have to be patient a little while longer," she says, looking the two little humanoids over in order to see how she can apply her Knowledge of Healing to help them out. If she deems it necessary, she will use one charge of her Cure Light Wounds wand on each of them.
"Who are you two, and why are you here in this terrible place?" Wilma asks as she makes her assessment of their physical condition.

The Torture Chamber of the Drow (DM Cayzle) Rounds 5-7 Saturday December 14th, 2013 7:38:42 AM
Tuck keeps the prisoner secure.
Emrys interrogates her:
"Why do you keep a secret torture chamber?" -- "It is not secret -- just the entrance you came in is secret. And we're Drow. Show me a Drow House that does NOT have a torture chamber. We keep it to do torture." She speaks carefully, as if to a kid holding a loaded gun.
"How many would you say you've killed here, either by your own hand or by command?" -- "Who keeps count? Dozens? Hundreds? I have lived many of your years, child, and the lives of the lesser races are like candle flames, easily snuffed. Did you not notice the part where I mentioned that I am Drow?"
"Do you enjoy your work, does the suffering of others give you delight?" -- "I honor my lady Jancassis with my work in this room. I delight in worshipping her. I am satisfied at doing my work well in her name. That is enough."
"Would you have us killed after we let you go? What would you like to do to us?" -- "The usual procedure in a kidnapping is that you negotiate for a ransom. Usually a ransom negotiation includes a no-retribution clause. But I fear I have fallen into the hands of sunlit imbeciles, of great prowess, perhaps, but who do not know how the Wold works. You do know that the house guards will be here at any moment?"
"How many guards answer to your alarm? Which door will they be coming from?" -- "I anticipate that in the hands of rank amateurs, my life will be in greater danger once the guards arrive. There may be five to ten of them now, with more coming later. They will come in the obvious door, not the secret one through which you entered. You should leave now, before engaging them."
Vanimme finds no hidden door.
Wilma cures each gnome, who are clearly grateful for your help, and both of whom move to the secret door. "Is this the way out?" they ask. They seem ready to run, despite their disabilities. [OOC regarding heal checks -- you know how D&D works. You can be at the stick and still fight and run like you were at full health.]
Grell keeps alert but does not hear anything. Alleah, on the other hand, hears the sound of approaching boots from beyond the non-secret door!

The redheaded cleric is puzzled that the gnomes very obviously ignored her questions regarding their identity and why they were prisoners, but she lets it slide for the moment, turning her attention to the rest of her team.
"Does anyone need healing..?" she asked out loud in Common, then added to Emrys as an aside: "You may want to test her reaction to finding out that a Certain Owner/Operator of a Certain Tavern in Bthanchend really, really wants her dead. To the Matron, Emrys replies, "Yesterday, we had never heard of you ... today, it's your candle at the end of its wick." He reaches for a necklace from around his neck. He pulls it up to reveal a small medallion. Upon the medallion, in bas-relief, is a High Woldian glyph representing Pantheon. "Don't you see, Jancassis has forsaken you. Today, justice finds you."
"My friends, by her own words, she admits with delight of all the countless souls tortured and murdered in Jancassis' name. Her hands are slathered in the blood of the innocent. Can you not hear their cries? Let's not forget the generations that could never be. The voices never added to the choir of life, their songs left unsung, their stories not ever written. How can we possibly consider letting her go? Every candle she'll snuff out beyond this moment will be blood on our hands. I don't know about you, but I couldn't live with myself if I allowed that to happen."
Emrys then pauses to mutter a few words of power and suddenly a crystalline, glassy dagger appears in his hand. The lights of the fires flicker and glow in its reflective blade. "What say you all? Clearly shaken by an internal struggle, the young mystic's knuckles turn white as they grip the glass dagger more tightly. It would be so easy to put an end to it all. Much like how he senses the leylines of woldsblood, the way they pulse, ebb and flow. So too, there on her neck, just beneath the surface of her soft, thin skin courses a black, putrid ichor that passes for her blood. Why not just lance it, like a festering boil, he thinks to himself. It would be so easy ... so very effortless. He could put an end to so much pain and suffering. Time slows and sounds fade as he contemplates this. All he can hear are the countless souls crying out for retribution. He mutters, "Oh Pantheon, this is just ... it is right!"
Pantheon answers, "I do not like this, Emrys. She surrendered"
"She's so evil, why does that matter now?"
Pantheon replies, "Evil or not...depraved or not, this female has surrendered. She is a terrible person and is working to derail the established order of the city."
"What if we don't succeed, she'll continue her slaughter of the innocent!"
Pantheon exhorts, "Donīt do it Emrys! I implore you not to do it."
"But!"
Pantheon commands, "Killing her this way is not honorable. Take the matron with you and leave."
As tears stream down his face, Emrys replies, "Yes, master."

"Ok all let's move out." Tuck Alleah in front Ariach Errys in the rear Grell after Tuck me and wilma inthe middle. Alleah Tuck make sure those gnomes don't trip the trap out there."
Tuck HP 46/49 AC 21/21/17 d20+15=21 ; Tuesday December 17th, 2013 5:13:08 PM
Tuck grunts and roughly pulls the drow to her feet and pushes her along. (Grapple 21)
The Torture Chamber of the Drow (DM Cayzle) Round 8 Tuesday December 17th, 2013 6:06:17 PM
Emrys struggles to do the right thing, and with help from his friends, decides against a cold-blooded murder.
[OOC: Emrys, please accept a hero point for making a heroic choice.]
Grell binds the one guard who is still alive.
Ariach, Emrys, and Alleah all hear the enemy guards arrive on the far side of the door that is spiked shut.
Alleah has salvaged a crossbow, 9 bolts, and three vials from the downed torture helpers.
Wilma calls to the gnomes, "Go right, but be ---" ... And they fall over the trip alarm, which seems to trigger a silent visual alarm in the room.
Van and Tuck hustle the captive drow out of the room, hustling her into the secret hallway.
With the visual alarm triggered, there is no need to avoid the trap. The party quickly finds the way back to the Passwall. After a few rounds of movement, escape is in reach!
Perception DC:15: Highlight to display spoiler: {You finally hear the spiked door broken down.}
Ariach AC 26/14/19 ; HP 69/69 d20+7=25 ; Tuesday December 17th, 2013 6:22:36 PM

Ariach gives a thankful nod to Emry when the bard passes him. "Good to see you in bright light instead of complete darkness."
He waits until everyone passes and takes his allocated place during the retreat in the rear.
Emrys looks back, before they get too far, and hopes the last person had closed the secret door behind them. If not, he hums a short, magical tune that causes the secret door to close.
(Emrys casts Open/Close to close the secret door.)
When they reach the end of the hallway, where they had entered from the old tannery, he will cast Light to the end of his walking stick and holds it up to see how they open the final door. (Perception: 26)

"They're through the door. We should hurry. Though, a narrow tunnel may help even any numbers" Alleah pushes ahead.
When all are gathered she applies the oil to the passwall once more.
The Torture Chamber of the Drow (DM Cayzle) Round 8 Wednesday December 18th, 2013 12:40:43 AM
OOC: The Passwall ointment does not need to be reapplied. Per the spell, it lasts for hours or until dismissed.
Wilma; AC17 (+1 Mithril chain shirt); HP 51/51; Comp. Language, Prot.fm.Evil Wednesday December 18th, 2013 1:21:05 AM
"Go through! It's still effective..!" Wilma urged the gnomes and her teammates, passing through the wall. "As soon as we're all out, we'll need to dismiss the effect!"

Tuck continues to keep a firm grip on the Matron as he steers her after the others.

Emrys passes through as well and is welcomed by the stench of the old tannery.
Ariach AC 26/14/19 ; HP 69/69 Wednesday December 18th, 2013 3:51:20 PM
Ariach waits until everyone has passed than he follows.
Grell, AC20/13/18, HP72/72, Protection from Evil Wednesday December 18th, 2013 4:03:29 PM
Taking up the spot assigned to him by Vaniime, Grell is none too thrilled. He'd rather be toward the back where he knows the attack is going to come from. If there is any sign that the others need him, Grell will immediately head toward the rear to help the others.
OOC: LOL about the guards. I meant that he was going to stay behind to fight the ones that were coming. Oh well, that gave me a chuckle for the day. :)
The Torture Chamber of the Drow (DM Cayzle) Round 8 Wednesday December 18th, 2013 5:14:15 PM
Ariach lets his friends pass until he is again at the rear.
Emrys closes the secret door, before the guards break through the spiked door.
Alleah, in the lead, is glad to see the Passwall is still there. It has only been a couple minutes, of course.
Wilma urges the gnomes through; Tuck urges Ulvirjss through.
Grell is alert to danger, but no opponents appear.
Back in the Tannery, the Passwall is ended, and the way back is sealed.
How will you travel through the town with the drow matron tied up with you? Where are you headed? It is still 'morning.'
Tuck HP 46/49 AC 21/21/17 Wednesday December 18th, 2013 5:46:58 PM
"It looks like we need a plan of action. Where are we taking her and how are we getting her there?"
Emrys ac13, hp28/28. prestidigitation, deathwatch, unseen servant, light Wednesday December 18th, 2013 10:34:04 PM
"I was thinking the same thing as Vannime. We don't know what to expect from the local magistrate. Let's not forget where we are. We could very well find ourselves locked in chains and the Matron set free to continue her evil deeds. If you all recall, Indicio wants her dead! We would then need to find another way home for not fulfilling our end of the bargain. However, we now have something valuable to barter with. How often does one come upon an ancient drow matron with the inability to tell a lie!? The curse I placed upon her is permanent. An untapped, free-flowing source of secret information would be far too great for Indicio to resist."
After a short pause, Emrys continues, "We all know what will happen when Indicio is finished with her. She'll suffer the indignity of bussing tables at the Broken Pick as an undead slave. When the day comes when we return for Indicio, we can send her to Gargul, along with him, for judgement. As far as I see it, she's reaping what she's sown!" He hopes the matron heard very word.
Wilma; AC17 (+1 Mithril chain shirt); HP 51/51; Comp. Language, Prot.fm.Evil Thursday December 19th, 2013 1:06:05 AM
"I've got a blanket in my backpack," Wilma announces, shrugging off her backpack and rummaging through its contents. This takes her a moment or two (in spite of it being a Handy Haversack), as she is giving the Matron time to absorb the implications of what her "intended" fate was going to be, "...we can roll her up in it and be 'delivering a carpet' or something like that. Nobody thinks twice about delivery people..."
RobC - Alleah Lighttouch AC 15/15/11 -- CMD 15 -- HP 44/44 d20+16=29 ; Thursday December 19th, 2013 6:04:16 AM "I've got some manacles and chains if we want to secure her a bit tighter. I also have a sack we could just place over her head and walk her straight where we want to go. To be honest, I don't think we have time to wait to wrap her up and carry her. Those guards are right behind us."
Alleah takes a sack from her pack and holds it out to the group. She's made many an escape before and the one thing she has learned is that if you only think you are safe, you are not.

"Let's put the bag over her head and block her hearing somehow before we discuss our plans for her."
Tuck uses Alleah's bag to secure over Ulvirjss' head, wrapping it especially tight around her ears. He keeps a tight hold on her. (Grapple 21)
"I like the idea to put her in a carpet. I don't like the idea to hand her over to Indicio. We know he's going to torture or kill her. That's not justice and it would be the same as if we killed her. Indicio is the knife in our hand as if we plunged it in ourselves."
"I don't know what the justice system is around here, but we should determine another way to see her brought to justice. Something fair and impartial. Indicio is neither of those."
Ariach AC 26/14/19 ; HP 69/69 Thursday December 19th, 2013 6:48:34 PM
Ariach listens to the conversation but says nothing. He never has been a proponent of the deal wiht Indicio. Now he waits for his friends to solve the misery.
