Upon inspection of the dead goblin, you find that he somehow managed to chew through and bite off his tongue and get in lodge in his airway, so that he drowned in his own blood. The other while he is bleeding profusely and seems to be missing a large part of his tongue, could likely be saved if the feeort is made, though it will be highly unlikely that he will ever speak coherently again.

The group gets a snse that there is something serious happening at the Ford and feeling a bit of pressure to get back.

You are soon all set and ready to go (goblin healed or not?) and are on your way back to the ford moving as quiclkly as you are able and you make pretty good time back over the last 1.3 day journey back to Humbles Ford.

You find yourslef just before noon at the foot of the river crossing south of Humbles Ford lloking across the river. Everything seems quiet and normal.

Adomorn looks at the dead goblin and quickly tries to think back to a time to where he saw such a thing. He looks around to his friends for further actions, as he stays alert for any other weird surprises.

Murphy (Kim)  d20+6=24 ; d20+13=14 ;
Wednesday January 8th, 2014 2:13:32 AM

[Am going to assume that Kmorn died, and it is Dxurs who is still alive. Murphy cast CLW on Kmorn, to no avail, Alouryn's positive energy further covered him and the pony, Pippa, but it was Eral's CLW that brought Dxurs back... though with gnarled tongue.]

In goblin, he says, Dxurs, don't kill yourself. We have another goblin who lives among us, and people treat him just fine. No promise they will do so with you - it depends upon how you behave. Give up and die, you can. But maybe life has some hope. You must decide." He puts the goblin up on the cart. "Mister Tosscobble - are you willing to see he does not kill himself?"

Having asked in two or three posts already - how is Eldon Tosscobble doing now with 3 or so days of okay food, water, multiple healings, and some rest on the wagon?

He asks for help, and places Kmorn's body up in the nearest tree or bush, uses the short form goblin song of mourning (it takes about 20-30 seconds), then gets back up on the cart and giddyups Pippa - handle animals 24. She apparently liked the short break and Alouyrn's positive energy.

On the road back, he talks about the Baron's men who dwell in Angel Springs [based upon earlier post's knowledge local of 22].

Once coming into Humble's Ford, Murphy says, "Let's go quickly, eh? Temple of Flower?" he asks his friends, and includes Eldon Tosscobble in his query, for confirmation or comment. If they concur that's the place to go, he puts Pippa into a run - which she is happy to do - heading straight toward the stables. He frustrates her though, turning her along the left fork of the road so that they pass with the General Store on their right, up toward the Temple of Flower.

[ Everyone - there is a link at the top of the page called 'Click here to visit the Woldipedia Humble's Ford game page' which takes you to http://www.woldiangames.com/Woldipedia/index.php/Humble%27s_Ford - where you can check out the town map, and refresh your memory about where who and what are.]

Murphy's perception is 14 - normally not too bad a roll, except that it is a natural 1.

"The Temple of Flower is fine! We need to see what those other goblins were up to," Shel adds tensely, worried to death about what horrors could have transpired during their time away.

The decision is to head directly to Flower Temple and to see if Serabella Lovesong is alright and can help them with the goblin and Edric's stuttering problem.

Eldon agrees to watch the goblin and the goblin doesn't seem to want to try anything else and is resigned to being your prisoner.

You all cross the bridge and a few of the folk doing a bit of fishing wave as you go by, though they don't really seem to notice who you are.

As you approach the general store on the right and Humbles Barrow, Mayor Humblebutt's home there are a few more people around and several of the youngers wave and call out to you as you pass "Look it's the Swords that won the games!"

"Hi, children!" Murphy gives a friendly wave to the young ones, and their suspicious parents. "Look! My face turned orange." He matches that statement with a momentary look of astonishment, followed by a self-deprecating chuckle .

Once out of earshot of the crowds, Murphy says, "Well, aside from the fact that several of us have orange faces and hands - which I aver must seem very strange, who can know what gossip goes on in the space of several days when one is gone?" he asks. "No doubt we will get a better idea what has been going on soon."

As he sees the group of people ahead near the temple, he calls out to his friends, "Two or three of us should stay outside, the rest go in. We have... valuable cargo in the wagon, and should not leave it unwatched. Who will stay out with the wagon, and Pippa?" he asks his friends.

The towhead brings the wagon to a halt at the nearest convenient place near the temple.

"Hi, folks," he says to some outside the temple. "Sorry about the orange skin - it's something we needed to do over the past few days, but our skin will return to normal. Is there a special occasion here at Flower's Temple?"

As he is talking with a few of the crowd gathered near the temple, he places a feed bag around Pippa's neck, and takes a moment to ask Eldon, quietly, "Do you want to come in to the temple with us? Or do you want to wait a few minutes watching over our 'guest,' then we'll come get you once we've had a chance to talk with those inside?" He awaits his response, then approaches the devotee of Flower in their midst.

Quietly, he asks her, "Alouryn, do you want to take the lead here? Can you tell the good high priestess what we have gone through, and learned?"

He waits for the members of Humble's Sword to respond, then, letting Alouryn lead the way, enters the temple.

DM Kent
Thursday January 9th, 2014 10:14:52 PM

While there is some unease about why the parents are looking at you askance Murphy points out that several of you do still have bright orange faces. That seems to relax several of the others and their trepidation.

As you make the final approach to the Temple Murphy suggests that only a few of you go into the temple to seek out sarabella's help while the rest of you guard your "cargo" so to speak.

Murphy suggests that Alouryn head up the inside group and Eral agrees and then volunteers himself to accompany her. Eral alos wonders if someone should try to find the Mayor and give him an update.

Arriving at the temple there are a number of people around the gates. The Mayor being one of them along with 4 guard types wearing the Baron's colors. (Could these be some of the ones that passed you just the other morning?)

The mayor sees your arrival and hurries in through the gate toward the temple door and goe on inside.

It appears evident that the Mayor and the Baron's men may be moving to arrest Sarabella Lovesong, or someone within the temple.

He himself, though, quickly asks, "Alouryn, do you want to go in? Let us move quickly." If she agrees, he escorts her inside right behind Hazel. If not, he himself moves with due haste to enter the temple gate and temple itself. If someone tries to stop them, Murphy declares boldly, "We are here with urgent information for the Mayor and those in authority. Let us pass unhindered."

If any move to detain Alouryn, he asks, "You would defile sacred ground by laying hands upon a peaceful Devotee of Flower?"

When you get inside, you can tell right away that something is very wrong.

On the right side, in the Pews, N & O 7 you see the Mayor and a very well dressed man in the Baron's colors sitting and talking with Theadric Orgulas (His dog is at his feet.), Crystal BadApple and Pirnook DeepPockets. N8 - Q7

In the Pews to the left D7 - G8 are seated Mulberry DrinkWater and Cora TossCobble.

Why did Cora say nothing? Both Shel and he spoke with her, and yet she did not seem to respond at all, even when they told her that her beloved Eldon was outside. Has something totally stunned her?

"Where is Sarabella Lovesong? We've come to warn her, and our good Mayor, of dangers from the Red Hills. And why are guards blocking us from seeing who that is up there? Are we deemed people to be guarded against, in our own community?" Murphy feels a foreboding - he sees the looks on Shel's and Eral's faces - he cannot see Alouryn's face yet, but it seems as though her shoulders slump. "Who is it?" he asks his friends, as no one else in the room seems to be letting them know, yet dreading to hear the answer.

He is confused at the presence of outsiders to Humble's Ford. What is going on? "You can ask near anybody in the room who I am, sir. The name is Murphy. My folks have a music and toy shop there in Angel Springs. My brothers and sisters have helped and defended the Valley for years. Our burrow and shop are here - close to Madame LaRue's shop, and to the Greenbottles. Murphy Leafwin Pipewood is my name."

He looks around at the faces of friends, neighbors, rivals, and other townfolk gathered here. "I'll sit down, though, and we'll listen to what you have to say, Mister Morro Goodbarrel Oakleaf."

He takes a seat on the second row, at H9. He offers adjacent seats to his companions, or they can choose to sit where they wish. Then, the door opens, and he sees Adomorn and Eldon. He stands. "Mister Eldon - Cora needs you." he points the elderly handyman toward his wife.

Murphy turns to Morro Goodbarrel Oakleaf. "Sir, there is a captured goblin in Mister Tosscobble's wagon out there. Mister Eldon can tell you more, but I'm worried about him being out there in the cart with no one save my friend's dog to guard him. He is well tied up, but we got some useful information from him, and I don't want anyone to do something untoward - nor to let him go. Can you or some of your guards see to it?"

He stands until he gets an answer or response, then, most like, sits back down.

"She is with Flower and Domi now. They will watch over her spirit." Eral will try to move her to the front most seats but keeping an eye out. (Perception of 25 and sense motive of 11 on Oakleaf)

Shel and Eral are pretty sure they just saw Mister Oakleaf use a message spell to someone, possibly the outside guards that just brough the others in.

Cora sends a quick smile your way as Eldon makes his way into the temple and over to her where he sits beside her and they have a quick embrace and Cora begins whispering urgently into his ear. Eldom darts a quick worried look over at you and then shaking his head whispers something back to Cora.

Mister Oakleaf moves so he is standing in front of you all after you make your ways to the center pews up front. He paces slowly in along the line of you looking each of you in the eye. After the first pass he stops in front of Alouryn.

The Mayor and the others from Humbles Ford are not saying much and appear to be watching the proceedings with some eagerness or perhaps trepidation. It is kind of hard to tell which.

Oakleaf begins. "So as you can probably surmise, High priestess Lovesong has been murdered. I have been sent by The Baron, to find the culprits and return with them to Angel Springs to stand trial before the Lord mayor and the Baron and be hung. We have already started our investigation and are interviewing people and witnesses in order to figure out a timeline and narrow down the suspect list.

Right now we are concentrating on finding out where everyone was on the night the murder took place. I am going to ask each of you to come into the back room with me and answer a few questions. When done I would like for you to come back out here and reseat yourselves but please refrain from talking to any of the others.

His pacing has now brought him to a place in front of Alouryn.

"You are Alouryn Buttercup Bumblebottom yes?" Will you please come with me?

He takes her past the body, to one of the back two rooms (the one which wasn't Sarabella's.)

"So Miss Bumblebottom, on the night of your group's celebration party your group was approached by Mrs. Tosscobble who was more than a bit distraught about the apparent unknown where-abouts of her husband? Can you tell me what you did next and account for your movements from the time you left the Belly Buster until you all left town.

He waits and listens to her reply not stopping to ask any questions while she speaks. When she is done he jots a few notes down and walks her back to the group.

Which one of you is Bob Danderfluff LaRue, also known as Hazel? Master Larue, On the night of your group's celebration party your group was approached by Mrs. Tosscobble who was more than a bit distraught about the apparent unknown where-abouts of her husband? Can you tell me what you did next and account for your movements from the time you left the Belly Buster until you all left town.

When done he comes back out and asks for Eral Sunstrider, then Edric Lowbrook, Shel Breezelee Kromnite, Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood, and then finishes off with Eldon.

When he is done he looks over at Adomorn Millstone. What is your name young man? and are you a part of this group? Will you come back and chat with me as well. So how well do you know this young adventuring group? How and when did you meet them? Where are you from?

He basically asks you each the same question as posted above. Each of you please use your post to compose your answer to his investigational question.

At the crying of Alouryn Hazel forgets everything and goes to her and embraces here, trying to confort her.
When she is asked to go and answer the questions he gets indignant:
"Are you saying she had something to do with the murder? She is the most good person I know! How you dare! We were trying to save the priestess! We should be looking for the real killers and not losing time here!"
If they insist he will let them interrogate her anyway, and in its turn he will answer shortly but throuthfully.

Shel doesn't recall exactly the events of the evening as that was a couple weeks ago.

OOC: I think it was close to a week of travel each way, IIRC. I'm not going to look up what happened that night, since I don't think Shel with her lack of attention would remember much, lol.

When Shel was led to be questioned, she was quite nervous. "I don't remember much as we've had quite a bit of adventure since then." Shel proceeds to fill the others in on all the excitement with the goblins, rescuing Eldon, the swampland with all the huge frogs, their orange faces, and now possessing what is apparently a cursed sword. It took several interruptions by the questioners to lead her back to the question at hand.

"Well, that night is a bit fuzzy since everything happened so quickly. I remember being at the the Buster, where they named the dish after me, if you remember. Later that night, Cora let us know that Eldon was missing and hadn't reported back when he was supposed to. We love Cora, so our group gathered and set off to hunt for him. It took a while to get started, since we had to go grab a bunch of supplies. Most of us had never been so far out of the Ford before. We set off, and found I forget the other halfling's name. He told us what happened when the goblins took Eldon away. We then followed the trail, thanks to our good trackers, and located him. We brought him back. A day ago, all these guards passed us on the road and wouldn't stop to answer our questions about what was happening. That's about all I remember."

Alouryn is in no shape to answer questions, but she will fill in rough details of that night stressing that the High Priestess specifically asked her (and her friends) to find out what happened to Eldon. She will also mention the details of Eldon's mission showing the orange goo still on her skin. The she will asked to be excused. She is too overwrought with grief to ask any questions herself. She will appear composed as she returns to the pew (and Hazel is in the room) looking to Crystal to see how she is responding. Once Hazel returns though she will continue sobbing with her head on his shoulder.
"She saved my life and now I can do nothing for her!"

We took Cora to her house and stayed there while Edric went and got the rest of the group and brought them. We left early the next morning to go rescue Eldon. We ended up finding his wagon and then moving onto Kill some goblins while rescuing him. One of the things we got out of the goblins was that they had a larger plan for Humbles Ford. I'm not sure if this murder is part of the plan but it could be. Your troops passed us as we worked our way back with Eldon as fast as possible."

[Slammed today. Will post tonight...]

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood AC 15/13/13 HP 26/26 (Kim McCoy)
Thursday January 16th, 2014 6:01:07 AM

"How long have you been called upon to do these types of investigations? Are you a shire rieve, or bailiff, or judge? Or is yours some other sort of office? Just curious, Mister Oakleaf. Or should I call you Sir Morro? Forgive me for not knowing, but I do not want to go on not knowing. It's important to know who one is talking to, my father told me."

Murphy observes the official closely - his responses, his mannerisms - looking to discern if he is genuine. Lady Sarabella told Alouryn and Hazel not to tell anything to anyone, as she feared that there may be others besides giants and goblinkind involved in Eldon's absence. And the goblins spoke of a man - a human? who wears a cape, and was behind Eldon's kidnapping and had plans for Lady Sarabella.

As the Leafwin Pipewood family is pretty well connected in all three towns in Crescent Valley, and since Kendry in particular and Selithe as well as Leska Rose have had many interactions with government officials, including in Angel Springs (and with his spectacular knowledge local roll of 22 out of 23 several days ago regarding things baronial), and since his Aunt Marigold ran for Burgomeister about seven years back, Murphy should have at least some acquaintance with the Baron {whose name is??}, at least by reputation, and some of his entourage. Does Murphy recognize any of the men? Has he seen any of them before in Crescent Valley - in Angel Springs, in particular?

If Murphy can be convinced of the bona fides of the investigator, then he will proceed to answer his questions in detail. If not, then he will not be forthcoming, until he has a chance to discuss things with the Mayor. With the strange goings-on, he wants to be careful where he places his trust, until he is persuaded that the one he talks with is trustworthy.

"Who, besides you, can hear what I say? I have used message spells before, and know that others can eavesdrop if preparations are made. I would like to have someone I know and trust in the room with us as a witness. You'll forgive me, or perhaps not, but we were enjoined by the very woman at the center of this inquiry to take great care with whom we speak. The one I would request be present during your interrogations with me and with anyone further is McGregor HeadWise. He enjoys an earned reputation for wisdom among us, and I know of no one who would gainsay that. He has a level head, and a discerning mind."

The young druid says, "I do not desire to be impertinent. I do desire to act with wisdom and discretion." He awaits the investigator's response.

(OOC Kim: Murphy has no idea a message spell was used as Murphy never made the Kniow arcana roll and neither shel nor Arel have told him.)

You all notice that Mayor Bumbleluck is definitely giving deference to Master Oakleaf and is staying out of the way staying with Theadric Orgulas (His dog is at his feet.), Crystal BadApple and Pirnook DeepPockets and keeping them company.

From Murphy's & Eral's sensing of Master Oakleaf's motives, they get the sense that he is doing his job and that he is truly bent on finding the culprit or culprits that have killed Sarabella. You also get the feeling that he would not be above a bit of subterfuge, in the name of justice, if it would get the guilty party to confess or incriminate him/her self.

At Hazel's defense of Alouryn, Master Oakleaf simply replies. I am not accusing anyone as yet I am simply trying to find out some information about each of your where-abouts on the night you left in search of Master Tosscobble. So yes I must insist that i get everyone's responses to my questions.

Alouryn takes a look over at Candy as she comes back out and is a bit confused by what she sees. It is very obvious that Candy is upset, but already seems resigned to the fact that Sarabella is dead. She also see a bit of an acusatoryquestioning look that somehow portrays an idon'tbelievebetrayal feeling. but the glance is fleeting and momentary.

At Edric's question, Master Oakleaf looks over and asks his own question. "Should you be suspected of something?"

As Eral finishes his telling, Master Oakleaf nods a couple of times and comments quickly. Hmm, interesting. We will check on that of course too. You say you have one of these goblins outside in the cart?

Murphy has indeed heard of Master Oakleaf and is aware of his many faceted role in the Baron Carduus Milkwyrt's and the Lord Mayor's Hierarchy of law and justice. In fact if he remembers correctly Oakleaf is related to one or the other. He has been in his position for many years and has been extremely effective and is well thought of, respected and liked by all who have work with him or know him. He is known to be a mage of some repute. He is known for his fair dealings and his extreme honesty. But he is also known as a no nonsense personality that does his job as he is told, to the letter, and is extremely dogged about getting to the bottom of an issue and solving the crimes he is set to investigate. (he is kind of like a special investigator/prosecutor)

As for the Baron's men, they are known to be honorable to a fault and follow their orders without fail. There has never been record of any of those named as the part of the Baron's men of having dealt falsely in any manner, having been bribed or in any other way failing in upholding the integrity of their position.

And while Murphy is aware of them and may have seen one or two in passing he has never met any of the Baron's Men here or elsewhere in the Valley.

Master Pipewood Perhaps I might understand your reticence to speak about High Priestess Lovesong's death with just anybody, but as I am here at the orders of the Baron himself to deal with this and to bring justice to the situation, your apparent refusal to speak with me is in fact a refusal to speak to the Baron himself and in fact makes you appear as if you are hiding something or do not waht this crime to be solved. I have heard you mention this goblin prisoner you have in your cart, and we will most certainly find out what he has to say about this situation, however I am more interested in finding out the where-abouts of the people who were in town when Sarabella was murdered, and here you are stonewalling me.
these interviews and the questioning are heard by me and my scribe who is taking notes on all that is being said within my presence.

As for Elder-Master Headwise, he has already been informed of what has occured and will be aiding us in the sorting of fact and fiction as well as adding his knowledge of the certain unique personalities of the people in town who may or may not be involved, but as such I do not as yet want him involved in the initial questioning or interviews. he will go over the reports and notes and look for inconsistancies as they appear and make recomendations as needed. But let me emphasize all final decisions will be made by me and will followed as if the baron himself has made them.

Murphy answers Master Oakleaf (Kim McCoy)  d20+13=24 ;
Friday January 17th, 2014 5:20:45 AM

Satisfied that he is both who he claims to be and a worthy investigator, Murphy says, "All right. I am convinced." Despite his having told the group not to talk amongst each other, he tells his friends, "Go ahead and tell Master Oakleaf all about what's gone on in the last several days. I trust him. That's what I'm going to do."

He whispers to the man as they go to the private room, saying, "There's only one thing I'd like to know before we go through with the interview, Master Oakleaf. Why isn't Madam LaRue moving? Is that really her?"

Whatever the answer, he accompanies the Baron's man, then gives him more information than he probably wanted to get.

"So, you want the whole thing? Everything we've done between the end of the games and now? What day did the murder take place, anyhow? By the way, whoever did this to her surely deserves to hang, or worse. Sarabella Lovesong has been one of the best people I know, and sweet to everyone. I am wondering, too, whether the man with the cloak did the deed, or arranged for it.

"That's getting ahead of things, though." Murphy runs his fingers through his wavy sandy hair, and puts his thoughts in order.

"So. As you likely know, or have heard, a group of us formed up a team for the games just before they got started. Besides me, there were Hazel, Shel, Flimsipold Williwhim, Odo Tosscobble Barfoot, Eral, Edric, Alouryn, and Zylo. Zylo Runefaust.

"We had to come up with a name for the team. A bunch of them had to do with turnips, and Hin Billy - uh, I mean Flimsipold, wanted to include Mulberry in the name. Mulberry Drinkwater, that is. But we settled on Humble's Sword. Seemed to fit in nice with Humble's Ford.

"That night some of us ran into Eldon and Cora Tosscobble at the Belly Buster." He looks up at the investigator. "Have you been there? One of the two inns in Humble's Ford, and some of the best food in the Valley. Anyway, some other teams were there, too. But Eldon was on a team that won years ago - the 'Bucking Goats' they styled themselves. He told us his best advice to winning the games is to count on each member of the team. 'With a random bunch of halflings like yourselves, there's bound to be someone best for each job,' he said. Then he told us he would be missing most of the games himself - he had to lead a supply caravan down the old trade route. But he told us Cora would be there to root us on to victory. They even hosted us at the Belly Buster that night. Sweet couple they are. Oh, Shel asked Cora to be our honorary Captain for the games.

"Mister Eldon left some time after the games started the next morning. He was there long enough to lend a couple of shovels and a wheelbarrow to help us with the first contest. I don't know exactly when he left, though. Except I learned later he traveled with Bingo Greenbottle. He's expecting... well, his wife, Lilly is expecting their first child - should be coming along with the birth any day now."

He looks at Oakleaf. "Have you had a chance to talk with Bingo yet? I mean Greenbottle, not the Mayor. Did he make it back here safely?" He hold up his hand as though to forestall an answer. "Wait - tell me after I tell you the whole thing.

"Say, is the Lord Baron sore that the team he sent from Angel Springs didn't beat our team?" he asks the investigator in an aside to the description of events. "I hope that hasn't put us under some sort of suspicion. They seemed pretty well prepared at the start, but got eliminated by the end of the first day."

"All right - sorry for the interruption. Wait! I forgot to tell you one thing. The night before the games began, just after we said goodnight to the Tosscobbles, a disheveled, elderly halfling that none of us recognized showed up. His clothing was worn out, his hair a mess, his backpack had seen many miles. And he had a wild look in his eyes. He told us, 'The Biguns are comin' strong from the Red Hills... Possibly the really Biguns, too. Word has it that they're comin' to raid the town again.' He told us we might want to check it out. Then he added, 'You fellers are too young to remember, but before those towers were built, the Biguns raided and nearly wiped out every halfling in the Valley. The towers are failing us. They're gettin' through.' That's what he told us.

"Some of my friends thought he was crazy. I think Odo wasn't so convinced, and one of my friends - Hazel, it was - said we should go look over the towers. But I reminded them of the song, The Testing of the Towers. Do you know it?" he asks Morro Goodbarrel Oakleaf. If so, Murphy nods his head and continues. If not, he gives him the words to the song, then continues. "The song seemed to contradict some things he was telling us - not to mention that the towers were tested and shored up around six years ago, and even these days The Second Dinner Club trio work to keep them tuned. If that's the right word. Well, this older man seemed to have a fit of anger, telling us we got it wrong. 'I was there with the guys and it's getting later on the nightingale,' I think were his words, just before he howled at the moon and ran off.

"I don't know if that somehow would tie into the whole history, but I thought I should mention it to you - as bits of it fit in with something we learned later. At the time, though, my take was that someone sent him to tell us this story to get us out of the competition.

"So, the last day of the competition took place. We won a game of Capture the Flag. Afterwards, I was looking for Cora - and for Eldon, too, as I hoped he would be back in time for the end. Neither were there.

"People carried us off to celebrate after the closing ceremonies - to the Belly Buster, it was. Long time we ate, many drank - I watch that I don't drink too much, myself, but some, yes. And we sang. My folks and sister and some friends showed up, too. Finally, toward the evening, Cora Tosscobble saw some of our group - I think Eral and Edric saw her first. She was frantic - Eldon was not back yet. She said he personally wanted to take care of Sarabella's supplies, but he should have been back in time to watch the last day's games and ceremony.

"Pretty soon the rest of us learned about what Cora was saying. We thought we should get ready to go look for her husband. Eral had taken her and the others to his room to be away from the crowds. We all talked. Edric and, joining him a bit later, I think Eral, too, went to see Pirnook at his store, even though it was late, to pick up some supplies.

"Alouryn and... I can't remember who else - went to talk with Sarabella Lovesong. Oh, yes - Hazel went with her. Later they told us what she said. Basically, that giants and goblinkind are growing stronger and may prove a threat soon to Crescent Valley. She also talked about goblin dogs - nasty critters, those. No, Lady Sarabella didn't say nasty critters - that's what I say. So, she explained he had asked Eldon Tosscobble to bring her some ingredients for something to protect the militia against those dogs. They make a rash, you see. I can show you my pony, Pippa - she got bit twice, badly, and now has a nasty scar.

"She was concerned that someone may have found out about the cargo Eldon was bringing. And she told us not to trust anyone, and not to tell anyone about it, because she feared there's more behind all this but giants and goblins. Which is why, Master Oakleaf, I set the conditions I did before telling you of this.

"I arranged with my father - he was still at the Belly Buster, so I pulled him aside for a moment. I arranged to take his cart pulled by two ponies - Nutmeg and Sugar, as well as a third pony, used to packsaddles, named Pippa - already mentioned her to you. Within about an hour and a half or two after Cora Tossbottle first approached us, we were on our way - over the protests of some of the members who were well worn out after three days of games and a day and evening of celebration. I drove the cart, and some of the sleepier people rode inside the cart on top of hay. Oh, shortly before we left, Lilly Greenbottle gave us some of Bingo's clothing, and Cora gave us some of Eldon's clothing, so that Faoil, Hazel's dog, could smell and track them. Anyway, we crossed the bridge and headed towards Angel Springs.

"By morning, we were at the branch leading to the Old Traders Trail. We caught a bit of sleep and let the ponies rest up, too, then continued on our way. After a long stretch on the old trail, close to nightfall we came upon an overturned wagon, scattered goods, and Bingo Greenbottle - who was leaning against the cart, shot with an arrow, and looking not far from death. We healed him some, withdrew the arrow, healed him some more. He told us that goblins had waylaid them. Some jars with orange salve were found among the scattered gear. Another halfling whom Eldon had hired - not from here - was killed by the goblins, and lay upon the ground. We wrapped up his body, and put it on the cart. Bingo asked us to rescue Eldon, whom the goblins had taken away. We agreed, sending Bingo back to town early the next morning with the cart to care for his pregnant wife, and to let Cora Tosscobble and Sarabella Lovesong know what was going on.

"We set out on the grassy trail, came to woods, traveled until the next night. On the next day we passed through to a swampy area. After a while we found giant toads blocking our path. We killed two of them, and put another to sleep, but let it live, passing it by. We continued on, came to an area with trees. The next morning, Flimsipold and Odo left the party, deciding to go back to town. They said they would let Cora and Lilly and Bingo know what was going on up to that point. Flim was also going to talk with Madame LaRue - he had nearly been swallowed by one of the giant toads the day before, and was worried about catching some rare ailment. He thought the skin of the toads might turn you into a toad. Funny ideas he has sometimes.

"As we set out, and traveled a bit, we were set upon by three goblin dogs. We fended them off, but not before one of them nearly killed my pony, Pippa. She's harnessed to the wagon outside - and I know she has got to be champing at the bit, wanted to get home. The bites of the dog left a strong scar along her right side. You can see it - it's in the area of a big orange spot. That is the salve that Lady Sarabella had made, and for which Eldon was supposed to gather more materials.

"I never did find out what happened to the extra materials for certain. Something happened in the swampy area, because some of the cargo was broken up and scattered there, and we found a broken jar with some of the orange paste in it. Sorry - that was before the toads - when you're telling about things that happened, sometimes details pop into your mind out of order, but then you can put them in the right place. The goblins did haul off quite a bit, but Mister Tosscobble didn't tell me all the ingredients that were needed, despite the fact that I asked him a few time. He just said that Sarabella knows how to make it.

"Well, right after the goblin dogs, an acquaintance from Humble's Ford, Adomorn Millstone, came across our path. He told of recently seeing a group of goblins with a bound halfling among them traveling along this way. As I knew him, we welcomed him to join up with us.

"We traveled together. We got to an area of brambles, and the trail narrowed. In time we came to a place where we saw through the brambles a goblin guard. Hazel broke through the brambles, I spoke with guard, but he didn't talk to me. He attacked us, we took him down. Others came out to see what was going on, and they, too, attempted to attack us. We took them down, then entered the cavern - the goblins' lair.

"It was a big cave in the side of a hill. They had two cages for their nasty dogs, and one cage they were keeping Eldon in. One of the goblins talked to us, but he stuttered quite a bit. Despite the stutter, the other goblins seemed to respect him. But they sicced their dogs on us, and pretty soon were shooting arrows and the like. We fought them. When all was said and done, we managed to subdue a couple of them, and killed the goblin who held a sword to Eldon's neck before he knew what hit him. But Eldon was alive, and we healed him best we could. They'd treated him terrible in the, maybe three days they had him. Bad swamp water, rancid food, lots of bruises. He told us we needed to get back to Humble's Ford right away, that the Sarabella Lovesong's life was in danger.

"We burned the dead dogs over the fire pit they had in the middle of the cave. We put the goblins up in some big bushes, facing skyward, which is how goblins prefer to have their bodies treated. Although I suppose they prefer trees to bushes, but bushes were all we had. Now, all of this took maybe fifteen, twenty minutes - we wanted to get on the road fast, since Eldon had told us of the need for haste.

"We put Mister Eldon up on Pippa - tried to make it comfortable for him up on top of the pack saddle, then headed back this way. Mister Eldon asked us to go around the swamp - which was a good idea - a little longer distance-wise than straight through, but faster travel overall. We set up camp when it got too dark to travel. The two goblins we had with us had tried to escape during the night, so Hazel fixed their ropes better. We kept them fed and watered, though. and tried to treat them more decent that they would have treated any of us.

"Bright and early the next day we set out again, and in time made it back to the place where the goblins had attacked Eldon, Bingo, and the foreign halfling. Did I skip a day? Some of it was rather a blur. So, we mended the wagon - it wasn't too bad off, just mainly turned on its side. Transferred the pack saddle and such from Pippa to the upright wagon, hitched her up, and off we went.

"Traveled for a while more up the Old Trader Road. It was then the Baron's men came with mounted dogs and ponies and a cart with a prison cage lickety split. We tried to talk to them, to let them know about the goblins' threat to the town - I was so taken by surprise I think I called them kobolds instead of goblins - and to ask for their help.

"Did they slow up? Not a whit. One of them shouted back something about getting to Humble's Ford quickly. Of course - that was you and your men, Master Oakleaf.

"Your passing us by like that got us kind of worrying. What happened here in town? I was wondering if the man in the cloak the goblins talked about had somehow gotten to Lady Sarabella, or there had been a goblin raid somewhere, or... well, I just didn't know, but my mind gets to trying to put the pieces together.

"Anyway, there was nothing for it - we just had to keep on moving. Now, despite that Hazel was checking on the welfare of the goblins about every hour, and they seemed to be all right, after a while they pretty fast seemed to get listless, then they both fell down! They were bleeding from their mouths. I tried to heal up the one next to the wagon, but he had died real fast. Another one, not quite as bad as that, still almost was a goner, except that Eral - he's a cleric of Domi, healed him some. Turns out they both were chewing their tongues. Can you believe it!?

"The one who died, his name was Kmorn, and he had bit the front of his tongue off, then choked on it. The other one had almost chewed all the way through his, but not quite. His name is Dxurs - that's the goblin out in the Tosscobble wagon. He can't talk too well at all, now. Maybe if someone has more powerful healing arts, you can get his tongue working again. He was trying to fill me full of arrows back in the cave.

"Back at the cave, though, after the fight, Hazel had spent some time asking them lots of questions. He can give you more details. But they talked about a man who wore a cloak. This man had hired their leader, Khadzh, to kidnap The Trader - that would be Mister Eldon Tosscobble. They told Hazel, regarding our Lady Sarabella. Here is what he told me they said. 'Evil priestess must dead he say.' The 'he' was Khadzh.

"Also, the man with the cloak had given Khadzh a sword and some shiny stones. They said after that, 'Khadzh speak funny.'" Hazel again runs his fingers through his hair. "Like I said, though, Hazel spoke with them directly - he might have more details."

He thinks a bit. "Master Oakleaf, I could flood you with more details, but I think those are the main things. Oh, it took us maybe a day and a quarter or so to get here after you passed us on the road. So, from the time we left late in the evening following the celebration of the games to now, that's, what? six or seven days?"

He remembers an earlier question. "Bingo Greenbottle. Have you spoken with him? Did he make it back here safely?"

Murphy puts his hands together, folded, chin resting on the knuckles. He thinks for a moment. "Do you suppose someone might be able to bring her back to life? I know she was old, but we need her." A tear falls down his cheek which he quickly brushes away.

"Come to think of it, maybe they had Mister Tosscobble with them five or so days - the goblins, that is," Murphy amends.

Once back in the area with the pews, he stares at the images of Madame LaRue and Sarabella Lovesong.

Alouryn points out to Hazel that something is odd about Madame LaRue. "Can you check on her?"

Alouryn is trying to compose herself, but finding it difficult. Her childhood hero has died and she is struggling to find reason to keep on being a Devotee if she can't even save the one who first saved her. Then she realizes it's up to her and the other local Devotees to fill the community's needs at least for now. She gets up and walks over closer to the body and with a quick visual examination (Heal Check 20) tries to determine cause of death.

Shel listens to Alouryn, adn looks closely at the scene as well. All of a sudden, the excitable halfling hops to her feet. "Something's wrong here! The scene at the alter just flicked a bit! Sarabella and Madame LaRue are just an illusion! What's the meaning of this illusion?"

After crying out to the others, Shel immediately heads toward the "body" of Sarabella. If she is able to reach the scene, she reaches out to the body, hoping that the illusion fades, and she doesn't look like a nut job.

As the exclamations occur about the scene up at the alter as Master Oakleaf and Murphy come back out from their conversation, Master Oakleaf stops and does something and just as Shel reaches the scene it vanishes all together.

Letting Murphy retake his place with his friends, he looks over at Shel, "Mistress Kromnite, will you please rejoin the others for a moment? Everyone please remain seated and settle down and I will try to fill you in with what I know as of this moment. You are likely to find it more than a bit distressing so, if you don't mind.

As he speaks he motions toward mayor Bumbleluck and the mayor exits the temple along with Theadric Orgulas, his dog, Crystal BadApple and Pirnook DeepPockets. Mulberry also leads Cora and Eldon out of the temple as well, leaving only you all and the Baron's crew in the temple.

Waiting until the others are gone Master Oakleaf plants himself in front of you all and begins.

So, The illusion at the front, unfortunately is an exact replica of the scene found her in the temple just several hours before daylight on the morning you left. I created it in order to make it seem as though Sarabella was killed more recently than she actually was.

And now here is my dilema. Two of your group were the last two people to have seen and been with Sarabella before she was found dead. We have several witnesses placing two of your group going to the temple, one witness placing two of your group going into the temple and another seeing two of your group leaving and heading away from the temple in a hurry.

The body was discovered less than an hour after you had left. By you own admission two of you own were indeed here at the scene of the crime. You all left town in the early morning hours just before dawn, in a hurry, and in a manner that smells preplanning.

Even among the witnesses you have staunch defenders that you had nothing to do with the murder. Yet there has been absolutely no sign of anyone or anything having been in the temple from the time you were seen leaving and when Sarabella's body was found.

Your story about hunting and finding Eldon and Bingo seems to be from all accounts verifiable, though we may know more if or when Bingo arrives and we can question him. We will of course question your prisoner, though as he was a distance away from humbles ford it is unlikely he will know much of anything about the murder.

Now another issue is with Master Millstone here who doesn't seem to want to account for his actions and where-abouts before he met up with you all and answer any of my questions.

So here is my dilema, All the witness evidence seems to point your way as either some of or all of you in some manner being responsible for this murder. And yet there are an awful lot of people here who don't believe you could possibly have done it, but no factual evidence to back it up. You yourselves have implicated yourselves in that you place several of your number at the temple at the time of the murder, which could be a clever ploy or just be happenstance.

I have been charged with collecting suspects and bringing them back to Angel Springs for further questioning and trial. At this point I can either arrest the two that were at the temple at the time and return with them or I can arrest you all and return with you all.

Just because this happens does not mean my investigation here will stop, but it may well take a detour until everything about you all is cleared up to the Baron's satisfaction.

Murphy in Flower's Temple (Kim McCoy)
Saturday January 18th, 2014 4:49:40 AM

"Bingo still has not arrived!?" Murphy exclaims with consternation. "Then either he has been kidnapped or, or worse. He should have been back about three days after we left. He had my father's cart and ponies. There are enemies on the road, on the watch along the Old Trader's Trail, sir, and we need to send someone to find out what has happened to him. That cart could have been run off the road, or ... Mister Oakleaf, there is a great deal that is foul about all this.

"Have Odo or Flimsipold shown up here in town? Has anyone questioned them?

"You say there is no sign of anyone after Hazel and Alouryn were here. What about someone invisible, or capable of teleportation? There are skilled assassins who could likely do such a thing. What means did you use to test for the presence of any but these two? And HOW was she killed? I have heard of shape shifters, too, who can look like someone else - maybe someone she trusted. I do not know. But I KNOW, beyond the slightest doubt, that the two that you suspect are not capable of this crime."

Murphy turns to his sorcerous friend. "Shel, Crystal is a cleric of Flower - a devotee, just as is Alouryn. We all know that Alouryn could in no wise have done this. We all know that Hazel would never harm her. Just as I do not think that Crystal would ever seek to harm her high priestess. I cannot see that Crystal being an opponent to us in the games would in any way give her motive to harm the holy woman."

"Now, Master Oakleaf, these are some of my concerns.

"First, someone did murder Lady Sarabella Lovesong. We all agree that whoever did so ought to be brought to justice. I can state with clear conscience and sound discernment that NEITHER of my friends here, nor any of us, is guilty of this crime.

"Second, there are additional tools available to you in this inquest. Eral can cast zone of truth, and you can ask questions, and discern whether truth be told or not. There are other clerics in Humble's Ford who are capable of such, who can discern truth with more powerful means. We have wizards here who may have the power to seek out thoughts of others. Please, before deciding to haul anyone off, check with them. Also - talk with my father. I have not spoken with him since I saw him at the Belly Buster and asked to borrow the cart and ponies. Check it out - ask him some questions. Has anyone spoken with poor Lilly Greenbottle?

"Third: We are at war. This is not yet an open, declared war. But people from the Red Hills - and perhaps from elsewhere, too - are already moving against us. Lady Sarabella Lovesong and the halfling who traveled with Eldon and Bingo are the first victims - and now, it appears, Bingo himself may be. I think the Baron needs to know this. I think the Burgomeister and the mayors of our towns need to know this, and perhaps some militia leaders. But, lest panic come, perhaps the circle of those who know should be kept small, so that plans can be formed, and when people hear of it, they will have a course of action, and cause for hope. I would speak with Madame LaRue, for she may know the formulation of the ointment that Sarabella wanted to prepare against the open attack of the goblin races. I am learning to craft alchemical items, and may be able to learn from her and teach others."

"Lastly: If you choose to take Hazel and Alouryn back with you - I ask you not to, until you have considered what I said a moment ago - I would request that you not cage them. Rather, have each give his and her word of honor that they will accompany you, will not resist nor attempt to escape. If you extend this trust, I wholly believe they will keep their word. And, if you would hold any hostage, let it be me. I will ride in the cage, if you need a visible prisoner. Do not shame them, though, who are not worthy of such shame. As for the rest of my friends here, it is up to each one what he or she will do."

He turns finally to Adomorn Millstone. "Friend Adomorn - please answer the questions that Master Oakleaf puts to you. He is not our enemy. He is an honorable man, who is carrying out the Baron's wishes. But if there is some reason you believe you cannot, that is for you to decide. You came into all this late."

I have very little doubt that Hazel and Alouryn had nothing to do with this catastrophe. But I also know its your job to do the investigation. I shall cast the Truth spell tomorrow on EVERYONE in this room to allow you to ask the questions you need.

One of the requests I would have is that you ask these questions to everyone in the room and not just Hazel and Alouryn.

If this does not satisfy you please let us escort you back to Angel Springs but only after we have told the Mayor the deal with the Goblins planned moves against Humbles Ford. If possible I would rather we leave some of your men here to help boost the guard until we can return to the town and offer our protection. Our team is able to protect you though the trip back to Angel Springs and I do not want to leave Humbles Ford unprotected from a large goblin attack.

I will also ride in the cage in place of Alouryn. She is grieving and I don't think it would be right to make her ride in a cage.

Murphy appreciates Eral's suggestions. He is not surprised at Hazel's defense of Alouryn - in fact, he agrees with what he said about her.

"Master Oakleaf - you have not told us how Sarabella Lovesong was killed. Was it by weapons? By magic? By some other means?

"Also - as another halfling of our community's life is in jeopardy - the father of a soon-to-be-born first child, would it not make good sense for all of us to see if we can save him? That might get us closer to solving this crime. I believe whoever arranged the kidnapping of Eldon also arranged for the murder of Sarabella, and for taking Bingo Greenbottle off his path back home to his wife. We want to solve the Lady's murder, I believe, every much as you do. Can you truly believe that ANY of us is responsible for her death? And, if not, then where lies the justice in placing any of us under arrest? If you are the last person I see touching the pond before the ice forms, then are you responsible for causing the ice?"

DM Kent
Monday January 20th, 2014 7:40:22 AM

Other than yourselves every person that has come forward to speak and give evidence or has come to your defense has already been put to question under a truth spell. This was done in order to check how truthful you would be upon arrival. Of course some of the particulars came with the original report from Amaryllis Greenbottle (the woman member of the Second Dinner Club) that arrived a several days ago.

As I said we have started to and will be talking to all the pertinent people that have information, if you would like to make a list of those you beileive could aid us in that endevour, you may do so.

You say that you know without a doubt that your two friends cound not have possibly done this deed, but how can you say that when you were not with them. And the fact remains that except for the past couple of weeks none of you were more than passing aquaintances prior to the Games. Can any of you truly say you know each other that well?

He waves off your quick defense remarks as they come to your lips.

I did not say you did it, nor did I say I think you are guilty, but if you look at the known facts...

The fact is some of you had opportunity, The fact is that there are perhaps now (he glances over at Murphy) more than one motive and some apply very much so to members of your party, and fact three, being an diverse adventuring type group, you have the means to have carried out this deed.

Now, don't get me wrong, I understand the bonds formed under stress and joint adversity, I just ask that you take a look at what you believe/know from a purely logical point of view, devoid of hot passion and emotional feelings.

You speak of war and you posture that this is the reason behind the murder and yet other than yourselves none have seen any of the signs of unrest that are associated with such an upheaval. I would think it would be more than a bit difficult to hide such from everyone. That said, what you are saying will be checked into and as I said your captive will be interogated as well on both topics of interest.

At Murphy's question about how she was killed, he pauses for a moment as if to think what was to be gained by answering or not answering. The specifics I will keep to myself for a bit longer but suffice to say that it was not pretty and that it seems as though a combination of magics and weponry were the ultimate cause of her death.

As for Bingo Greenbottle, he will be looked for as well for the reasons you say and for other possibly less obvious ones.

I understand your pond metaphor, however, we are not talking an act of nature here, though in several months to a year we might have. And in any case if you had the means, opportunity and reason for doing so and you were the last to touch the water, should you not be under suspicion and questioned?

Now as we are being frank, I was and am under orders to place you under arrest and was told that It was not necessary to question you here, but that I was to bring you back to Angel Springs forthwith.

How that process proceeds, is of course upt to you, to a point. But let me assure you, some or all of you will be returning, in the coach, with me to Angel Springs for further investigation and questions from the Baron and his staff.

Alouryn is displeased with all of the subterfuge. It takes her several moments and Hazel's outburst to realize that she is being accused of murdering her High Priestess, the one person she loved and revered more than any other. She hasn't the notion to be angry, with all of this grief she only knows despair. Heart broken she walks up to the accuser.
"Take my whip - it is my only weapon and is not even a weapon capable of doing harm. Take me and do what you will, but leave the others to find the true killer and bring justice. I have always loved and honoured Sarabella Lovesong since childhood. She saved my life and I could not save hers. For this, in Flower's eyes, I must be punished. Take me, but know that Flower's light will never shine upon your soul.

Furthermore heed this warning, the High Priestess was the strongest of our order. It would take a great foe that is beyond any of us to do this to her. That foe may strike again and who will stop him then?"

The heart of Murphy warms further toward Alouryn as she surrenders her harmless whip. He is not certain whether or not Flower will or will not ever enlighten the soul of Morro, but his brotherly fondness for Flower's devotee increases.

"Yes, Adomorn, please answer his questions. I realize you came to this late. But answer freely with whatever you may know."

He thinks he knows what Eral meant to say, but is reasonably certain he was not hoping for ill for Humble's Ford.

Shel's assessment that there is something amiss with this whole investigation seems valid.

Addressing Master Oakleaf, Murphy says, "I understand the metaphor is not absolutely perfect - yet you do not appear to understand the full point of it. I did not say I was the last to touch the water. I said you were the last that I saw touching the water - I never touched it - yet you reversed the story in your mind. Yet the apt application might be: Who arrived after you touched the water whom I did not see?"

"I really am trying to fathom what possible motive you deem ANY of us had," Murphy sighs. "What gain could there possibly] for any of us?

"She was friend to the community, and made beautiful flowers grow, and encouraged love and trust and fidelity. And our actions over this past week were at her direction, and so that she and we could work together for the common good of the community, and the Valley."

"But thank you for telling us at least what means seem to have been used to... to..." He pauses, choked up at considering what her last moments must have been like. Yet the sorrow of heart mixes with his analytic mind, and he realizes that those who took her life numbered two or more. Like as not the investigator or others close to the scene could discern in some measure what kind of weapons, perhaps what manner of magic were used against her. Blades slash or pierce. Blunt weapons bruise and break. Were arrows, sling stones, darts used? For the magic - might it be flame, or acid, or magic missiles, or some other sort of effect?

"I'll tell you what. Bingo drove my father's cart and ponies. I need to let my father know. Some members of my family may be able to help in the effort to find him - hopefully to rescue him. If you think it necessary to have one or more of your men accompany me, then I welcome their escort.

"Friends, what about Lilly Greenbottle? We need to learn if her child been born, and how she and the babe - born or not - fare. It is a week since we left her, in part to bring back her husband, Bingo. Should some of us meet with her? I think that Cora should be there with her if we do. Perhaps your presence, as well, Morro Goodbarrel Oakleaf, would be of some benefit.

"Three more things: Is there any possibility any of us could speak with Amaryllis Greenbottle and Madame LaRue to learn more? You may understand that we are as motivated as you to resolve this question. The more we understand, the better we might be able to help piece things together and find the real killers.

"And I would like to stop briefly by Pirnook's general store.

"Last - If any must go to meet with the Baron, friends, let us all go."

Misstress Kromnite there are ways of getting around truth spells when under a focussed interrogation; particularly when there are so many uncontrolable variables to deal with. If deemed neccessary one will be used once we get to Angel Springs if the baron sees the need.

There are any number of motives for any number of people. Some make more sense than others and some make little to no sense at all. And unfortunately it is as often the latter than the former in many of these cases. For as you say Sarabella was liked by all and loved by most. That may be what makes this so unthinkably horrendous.

And yes I get the point of perhaps not seeing who might or might not have been there but While that is investigated, I do what I must and what I can, even if it is not the popular thing to do or pleasant.

Thank you for making this much less difficult than it could have been. I will have my men ready the carriage. I will not bind or restrain any of you, however I must ask that you place all your weapons into the chest under the drivers seat and that you not exit the carriage unless told.

If you need some time to speak with family before we leave, I will give you thiry minutes, but please be back here at that time.

"Will the goblin, Dxurs, be coming with us?" Murphy asks of Morrow Oakleaf. "And, if so, within the carriage?" He then thinks to add the question, "And how long will the journey take for us back to Angel Springs?" He recalls how quickly the Baron's men raced along the roadway. He lets him know he will take Pippa and the wagon back to his place for offloading, and will have his father or one of his siblings get the wagon back to Eldon TossCobble's home.

Murphy thanks Morrow Oakleaf for granting the half hour reprieve, and sets out. "If any want to join me, feel free. If there is anything you would like to leave in the care of my family, give it to me now, and I will put it in my family's burrow for safekeeping."

He has Pippa briskly take the wagon back to his home

Murphy dashes into the family burrow. "Mama - I have to leave for Angel Springs in about 25 minutes. Did you hear about Sarabella Lovesong? Believe it or not - you may already have heard - the investigator suspects some of my friends - Hazel and Alouryn - of possibly being the perpetrators! He is absolutely wrong about that." Murphy's mother is well acquainted with Hazel, who has stayed often at their home down through the years.

"Anyway - could you put together some food for us to take on the trip? Also, I'm going to steal a few things from your sewing room."

At home in his room is a bag with several items recently delivered there (items from Giggling Ghost and Lotto).

He quickly gathers 26' of black thread, 25' of white thread, a few black buttons, a few white buttons, 2 steel sewing needles, and small scissors. He also takes a small paring knife from the kitchen, which he wraps in a linen napkin. He grabs about 25 acorns from the larder. He places 25 gold pieces on the counter. He lets here know what he is taking. "I need a few things from Papa, too, and this is to cover your things and his things."

His father is in the shop, fashioning a violin. He quickly let's his father know the same thing he told his mother. He asks permission to take a few small files. One is a 5" metal file, cylindrical, pointed at one end, and the second a 5" metal file, triangular in shape. He asks if his father has a small square of tinfoil he can take - about 3-1/2"x5-1/2". If so, he takes that.

He stops in his room, and he presses the 4"x6" pocket on the lower right side of his back. The items mentioned here all go into a small bag which he cuts to fit, hurridly sewing along the third side, and carefully slides into the pocket the color of which now matches his skin, and he closes the pocket. Oh, only two acorns go in that pocket, the rest in his backpack.

Any siblings he greets. "I love you all. Pray for us. Will write when I can, or stop by when I can," he tells all the family members there.

He takes about 3 minutes in the privy, quickly washes up, then runs with haste back to Flower's Temple. His sickle he tosses in the bottom of the carriage along with any other weapons. He does not consider the paring knife a weapon.

"Alouryn and Eral - will you lead us in prayer before we begin this journey," he asks of his friends.

Once that is done, he is ready to board the carriage along with his friends.

Alouyn , Hazel and Murphy run to do their things, as do any of the others who wish to and as you arrive back you carefully place your weapons in the lock box under the driver's seat. (you may post these trips to night if you wish).

At the end of the thirty minutes, you all arrive back at the temple. Other than the mounted guards, the Carriage Driver and Master Oakleaf there is noone else around.

The vehicle you saw the group pass you with has been modified somewhat and now appears to be a covered broad carriage with 5 padded bench seats along each side and a storage space below each for packs and things. There ire twoo small windows along bothe sides and a single door at the rear of the vehicle. While not terribly comfortable the ride ought to be at least bearable.

In response to Murphy's question about time for the trip, he responds quickly.

"Well normally it would be just around three and a half days journey between Humble's Ford and Angel Spings. And while we won't be traveling quite as fast as when we came, we should be there in about two and a half days or so. I am assuming you would like to arrive more or less in one piece and not bruised and battered beyond recognition. We will stop just a bit before dark so we can give the horses a good rest and so we can eat and sleep, and then be off right after sunrise. Midday meals will be on the go and we will not stop otherwise unless their is dire need. We will be travelling along the old Traders road.

We are getting a bit of a late start today so we will travel normally for the remainder of the day until sunset and then tomorrow we will pick up the pace a bit.

If you be so good as to take your seats we will be on our way.

(OOC: Hey all, I do hope PC sheets are up-to-date and at 3rd level now. If not they need to be by Monday at the latest.)

Shel throws herself down on a seat. This is nuts! I don't trust Oakleaf as far as I can throw him!

"Last chance...are we sure we are going through with this? We could always get out of here and go investigate things on our own," Shek whispers to the others.

Hazel accompanies Alouryn, while trying to give a good impression to her family.
He orders Faoil to follow the group before helping Alouryn in and taking a seat next to her.

Having the answer to that question, there are a few other details to add to Murphy's flurry of activity.

Murphy leaves a note with his mother, Bekka Lilly Burrows Leafwin Pipewood, to give to Madam LaRue - and asks whether she might be able to work with the herbalist on the orange salve project. His mother is a druid, herself.
Madam LaRue,
Do you know how to make the orange salve to protect from goblin dogs? We tried some - it works. Now, Sarabella Lovesong - may her soul find sweet rest (and no, we did not do the wicked deed which took her life - and may whoever did come soon to judgment) - gave Eldon & Bingo a list of herbs and such to gather for the salve. I think she is right - she told us that goblins are preparing to attack the valley. If you have any means to make it, please do. Also, if you could write down the recipe, with ingredients and process, I am willing to help make it, should circumstances permit. Maybe my mother and others can help. We need to protect our people, and especially the militia.
-Murphy

P.S.: Also healing potions
And now, knowing before he sees his family that they will travel part of the time on the Old Traders Road, tells his father, Samell Fingers Pastna Pipewood, "Papa, I think our carriage will be attacked on the way to Angel Springs. It may be goblins, or perhaps someone else. At least one human is involved, and if one, there must be more biguns. But I fear bad times are coming, and the people need to prepare. Maybe you can talk to someone. Would you talk with McGregor HeadWise and Rosco Hornblower, and whoever else you think should know? I do not fully trust this emissary of Baron Carduus Milkwyrt - his name is Morro Goodbarrel Oakleaf. He may be a sincere and perhaps righteous investigator, but I know his discernment is not full on. He doubts what we tell him about what Sarabella told us, and what Eldon and the goblins told us. Ask Eldon about what happened." He gives him a quick summary of the looming goblinoid threat, and the orange salve that Sarabella made - and his uncertainty of Madam LaRue's involvement in the fabrication of the ointment.

As he talks, in addition to the items mentioned above, he also get two small wood chisels made of steel on the business end with wooden handles - one with a 1/4" wide blade end, and the other with a 1" wide blade end, each one just over 5 inches in total length. These he also places in the small pocket attached to his back.

"Maybe there are others you know who should be warned. Now, Papa, you know how some may panic - so I'll trust to your discretion on that. And, I'm really sorry about Nutmeg and Sugar and the cart - but I'm even more worried about Bingo Greenbottle, and how his wife, Lilly, and their babe will fare. Has the child been born yet?" If Samell does not know the answer to the last question, he will ask his mother before he heads out the door with the food she packed for him and his friends for the journey. "Mama, I know you have been on adventures with Papa before you two married. And Leska Rose, Nalfein, Selithe, and Kendry before me have done so. Well, it looks like it might be my turn. Pray for me, Mama, like I know you always do. And for my friends. I'll remember you and all the rest in my prayers, too." He gives her a kiss on the cheek and the forehead. "Love ya, Ma. Thanks for the snacks!"

He picks up a sling staff that his brother Nalfein used to use, and ties some of his gear onto that, taking it along to be stowed. His run back to the temple is slowed with all the stuff he lugs along, but he makes it in the nick of time. He opens the sack of food and shows it to one of the Baron's men. "Food for the road - we'll keep that inside so we don't starve on the trip." He gives apples to the men who will be outside the coach, and takes the rest inside with him.

Murphy asks to have a quiet word with Master Oakleaf before they leave. "I pray it not happen - but, sir, I fear our caravan might be attacked by goblins, or maybe by some biguns, when we get on the Old Traders Road. Eldon and Bingo were attacked there, with that foreign hobbit. As far as we know, Bingo and my family cart and ponies were attacked there when he was on the way back. Now, you don't need anyone to tell you your business, but you might want to be watchful for obstacles placed in the roadway, or a ditch that wasn't there before. I just don't want us ambushed unawares. If it happens, we'll help defend you all - we're not enemies, though you're kind of arresting us. If we're attacked, let us help, so we all can get to Angel Springs safe. And, no, I don't know if that will happen, but with what we've been learning, it just doesn't hurt to be alert. My hope is for a safe trip all the way there."

As they get near the carriage, he also hands a large bag to him. "This here is a bag of caltrops. If someone you don't want to starts following us, shake this sack out and let them walk on that. That idea worked real well when the goblin dogs came running at us." It has 4 sets of caltrops in it. "All right, I'll go inside the carriage now."

As he stows his gear under the carriage, he uses rope to tie his things down, with a knots that should hold, but, pull the right part, and it undoes the knot easily. He quickly scans the undercarriage to see where the goods are stored, how much space there is between the storage there and the floor of the carriage, and whether it is wood, or metal, or what. He learned a fair amount about making things from his father. Knowledge: engineering - 11 - eh, he gets a general idea

"Glad this thing has a little spring to it."

At Shel's words, Murphy nods, and answers her quietly, "Yes, we have that option. But I do not want our two friends here to be placed into the maws of justice unjustly. I intend to go with them."

Just before they are shut in, Murphy sticks his head out the door. "What are you doing with Dzurs? The goblin? We don't want him to escape, but I promised him we would not kill him. I expect you to keep that promise for me. Where is he?"
