The sweet smell of the sea breeze calls to you laced with the scent of adventure, but first there are a few questions that need answering. Posing one last question to Barnacle Jane, Peza asks " Are there any current shrimp boats in the area now ??"...Oh yes, several. Besides mine there are a half dozen small independent fishers on the island and more coming all the time as word of the shrimp gets out. Harvest Moon quickly follows up on the information, asking when specifically the ships disappeared and if the different ships each have their own territory. The disappearances were around two day intervals. Approximately Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It's hard to tell for sure, you know. We all head out early, so no one really is sure when they left and we head back when our boats are full. From there we take the shrimp to market, so we didn't notice right away when the ships didn't return. We all assumed they headed out early and got back late. We typically follow the current around the south west coast, that's where the shrimp tend to be. As long as the ships keep far enough apart that there is no risk a collision we get along fine. Anything not sold here gets shipped to the main land, so there is no worry of flooding the market of stealing each others business. As the matter is discussed Zalmay once again turns his mind to the unlikely. "OK, this is a reach... but I wonder if our mysterious enemies might be making trouble at sea to lure us out there. To this there is no answer.
"Ok lets make our way to the Seasprite ... and set course for the shrimping area's " Peza says as she starts to the docks with Gerox summoning a horse and following closely behind her. As you walk Murag describes his unusual healing methods, and the group all agrees that they hope not to inflict much pain on him.
With in the hour Artus has the SeaSprite ready to sail and Harvest Moon point out the spot Barnacle Jane indicated on the maps. As the anchor raises Barratore turns his gaze out to the waters, well-nigh intoxicated by the of the vast open sea. His mind adrift with visions of limitless adventure.
Ooc: Please remember to roll for any checks, list any spells cast and mention any other preparations you make pre or post departure.
Murag (Matt K) AC19/11/19, CMD: 20 HP: 89/89 Tuesday March 18th, 2014 9:13:56 PM
During the trip Murag is comfortable on the ship and helps where he can. He understands lifting and hauling heavy burdens but the finer points of tying off sails and complicated knots are beyond him. He is happy to help and finds that his mending spell as always is useful. "Murag like that spell too, it make things better. Me like making things better." He can be overheard telling one of the sailors.
In time the Half Orc makes his way toward the group. "Murag wonder what mysterious enemies you talk about earlier? Me also want know what you rolls are in group. Helps Murag best defend and help you."
When there is time Murag takes a moment to just breathe in the sea air and appreciate the beauty around him. Its almost enough to stir him to write a poem about the wonders of Flower. He shakes his head in sadness though. "Murag not good at poems. Murag will find way to praise Flower like others at church." He says to himself. He sets his eyes on the horizon and his new beginning.

Barratore takes his position in the stern of the ship and leans into the high back railing. The crew of the Sea Sprite were all good sailors and didn't need him in the way. He was there to protect the ship and the the others repel any attacks or to initiate any such actions. The new cleric of Flower was a strange little man.
Barratore points at Peza high overhead in the crowsnest, "Talk to Peza about that." is his answer Murag's question about roles and such.
Barratore has no special preparations. He carries nearly everything he owns at all times as it all fits within his pack. Save for some the majority of his coin, still in a strongbox in the WLA compound. Barratore has a seat on the deck with his knees bent and takes a deep breath of the sea air. It is curious that in waters in which there are so many boats that they must needs take care not to collide with each other, that three boats might disappear without another seeing or hearing what happened.
"We have not been to the north of Rum Island," Harvest Moon reminds the others. "We have mapped only to the center and mostly east. The north is unknown to us."
The journey from the south to the north is taken in her usual place: In the crowsnest where Harvest Moon keeps an ever vigilant eye on the surrounding waters.
At Peza's request for an arrival time, Harvest Moon reminds her that it was a two week journey from the beach on the east side of Rum Island back to Rum after destroying the Beastlords' lab in the place of many invisible fences.* With an eye to her map, Harvest Moon estimates roughly twice that much time to reach the north of Rum Island.

Gerox smiles at Barratore's bluntness and taps on Murag's leg. He looks up at the ugly half orc and says, "Excuse Barratore. He sat on a stick today at breakfast and hasn't figured out how to unbend yet. He is right tough, Peza is our leader and you should ask her where you will fit in during combat.
I expect that you will want to stay around Brom and Barratore. They are our frontline fighters and will most likely need the most healing. Neither one really believes in retreating or even dodging blows. Peza is our archer of the group. She stays back, skewers her foes and directs the battle. I am a spellcaster. I will typically enhance our fighters with a haste spell and then use my fire spells on the enemy."
Gerox scratches his purple hair and looks over at Harvest, "Harvest is tougher to figure in a fight. She is good with her hands and feet but also will cast useful divine spells. Nothing very strong but she figures a way to be useful. Edson is our sneaky scout type. He will do our recon and give that information to Peza so she can plan tactics.
Zalmay is the best lookling half orc I have ever seen." he glances up and blanches and says "No offense intended. He too is a sorcerer like myself. I haven't really seen him in battle to much as he is a new member of group also but I am sure he will be able to be useful. He mainly uses electricity. He is a bit misguided but seems like a decent enough fellow."

As the ship sails out of the harbor toward the distant horizon where the sea meets the sky Murag helps where he can, the hired hands glad for the assistance. He also takes some time to get to know the rest of the League Adventurer's. It isn't long until Artus says you have reached the start of region Jane had pointed out. We are further out to sea than when we sailed past here last time. Before we kept closer to the island in order to better map the coast line. Pointing to a place where the water suddenly darkens significantly he continues, The water is darker out here, likely indicating a drop off. I'm not sure if the shrimp prefer the deeper of more shallow end, but from what we were told the fishing boats either follow this line up and down the drop off until they find a school and then follow it until their boat is full. They then return to port where the shrimp are sold in town or prepared for shipping to the mainland...I'm not positive, but I believe they are freezing them. As you stare at the drop off you can see how numerous boats can fish the area and still be out of sight of each other. It would only be if one ship wanted to pass another that they would have to move in close proximity of each other.
ooc: Looking at the maps I did not realize the island was so large. The map makes it look like the city takes up 1/2 the width of the island. I changed Janes instructions to sailing South West. Then then travelling North, up Rum's Western Coast. You are at the sothern most part of where the shrimp were caught. It is unknown how far up the shrimp go because the boats don't need to go that far to get their fill. Does this answer all your questions?

Peza listens to Artue, her keen mind mentally making note of every detail and quickly deciding the best course of action is to tack back and forth along the drop off, and to throw a few lines in the water to see if you catch any shrimp ... or what preys on the big shrimp...
The crew quickly prepares a net while Murag casts detect magic and scans the waters for any traces of powerful magic and talks about giant sharks and whales, an idea which Edson agrees is possible. Barratore crack an eye at the mention of such creatures and pictures various glorious scenarios and the trophies he might bring back with him. As he imagines the fight a thought occurs to him..."Do we have the ability to fight underwater?" Zalmay shakes his head, "I don't have any magic that will help us underwater..." The boat suddenly lurches towards its side, almost tipping over as the nets are suddenly weighed down with the weight of the shrimp and water begins to rise over the railing and onto the deck. CUT THE ROPES!!! Artus bellows as you hear the creaking and splintering of wooden beams giving way under the weight of the massive shrimp. "FIRE WILL NOT HARM IT!" cries Harvest Moon over groan of the timbers and the snap of splintering wood. "Stay away from its mouth. It will eat you in one bite!"
It's hide will be tough. There is little that she herself will be able to do to harm it. She must rely on the blades of the League Adventurers and do what she can to aid them in their striking.

" We won't survive if i keep shooting like that ... we'll be fish food for sure " muses the raven haired girl.
"You afraid I'm gonna kill it 'fore you do!" Brom taunts Barratore above the sound of the ship and waves. "I'll try ta leave somethin' for ya, but don't wait too long." Facing his prey he notices the beast is right on Brom...and Edson!? "Get yur scrawny butt out of here! Yur in the way!" He shouts as he sends his spear into the beast. The ship shudders as the creature jerks back in pain and one of its severed tentacles falls into the sea.
"Eat it Brom" the rogue elf calls back. "This fish is mine to serve at the inn. Fried with a little lemon." Edson then fires two shots, the second of which finds its mark thanks to Gerox haste spell.
As the deck shudders Murag reaches out to steady himself and inadvertently grabs Barratore's fur. He shrugs in apology before saying. "Flower protect him." as he cast shield other on the taur. A glow surround the two for a moment and then is gone. Overflowing with magic Barratore turns to focus on what he is now required to do and charges forward...his attack misses, but he is now in easy reach of his target.
Zalmay sets the crossbow down on the deck and points at the creature, two arcs of lightning reach out from his hand followed close behind by to magical blasts from Gerox hands. They look like direct hits, but the creature shrug them off, its wet and slimy skin resistant to the effects of fire.
As the magic fails Harvest is able to put together more information on the ancient beast. This one is old. Some creatures, they never stop growing. They eat and eat. ------------- Monster's Turn
The enormous squid's giant eyes stare unblinkingly at Brom as it brings one of its giant tentacles crashing down upon him with such fury that the deck shakes under its force. Out of the corner of Brom's eye he sees another tendril like arm rising in the air. It looks like it is about to hit, but at the last minute the beast turns its attention to the charging minotaur. Perhaps the squid perceived him a bigger threat, or perhaps it felt the minotaur would make a more filling meal. The sound of the slimy arm connecting with Barratore's armor is sickening, and everyone is surprised at how little the taur reacts to the strike...everyone except Murag who exhales sharply and coughs up a small pool of blood.

What is difficult to understand is why this Old One does not run away. It is very much unlike animals in the wild to fight to the death. Even for their territory, they run when it is clear that they are overmatched.
It is also odd to think that a creature such as this would consume boats. Why would it eat boats which are mostly made of wood? Especially when these shores are as rich with the Leviathan Shrimp? It is very curious, and, on an impulse, Harvest Moon leaps over the side of the SeaSprite and runs to the head of the Old One for a closer look at the creature.
Is this one hurt or mad? That would explain things? Madness is rare. But it is possible.

She watches with extreme curiosity, trying to understand her attacker, as it shifts position and begins wrapping its tentacles around the boat. With each movement her brain picks apart the meaning. It has no sense of tactics and goes after whatever appears the biggest threat...But why would it attack the boat? To feed? A protection mechanism?...Suddenly the squid begins to squeeze, its tentacles contracting tighter and tighter...SNAP! Suddenly the two tentacles Brom and Barratore had been hacking at pull apart under the strain, sending strands of slimy tissue spraying across the ship....old and unintelligent Harvest Moon thins to herself as the creature loosens its grip and prepares to drop from the boat, its life all but spent. One, perhaps two good hits and the creature would be sent to a watery grave from which it would never return, and as it uncoils its tentacles one thought enters Harvest Moon's mind, fear. Harvest Moon reaches out to touch The Old One as, unable to escape the League Adventurers, the last of its life is released to Gargul's realm. One does not survive without fear or caution. Regardless of one's size or power, there seems always to be another, somewhere, who is larger or more powerful. It is the way of things.
Even as the blades fall from the deck of the SeaSprite, Harvest Moon looks about the body of The Old One for a place of purchase from where she might grab hold in order to keep the body from sinking away into the depths. The Old One must be many tons in weight. But, with luck, the waters of the ocean might buoy it sufficiently to allow the body to be towed to the shore for examination.

Even as the blades fall from the deck of the SeaSprite, Harvest Moon looks about the body of The Old One for a place of purchase from where she might grab hold in order to keep the body from sinking away into the depths, but it is too large. For now the glistened bloated gray green form floats beside the ship, but she knows it will eventually sink if it doesn't wash up on shore first. All she could save is a 4ft section of severed tentacle laying on the deck. Harvest Highlight to display spoiler: {Harvest knows that whole squids float when they die (recently deceased due to ammonia and afterward due to gasses from decomposition), but ones as pierced and cut up as this one will sink as the fluid leaks out. Since these things haven't been seen washing up on shore you can assume they are not commonplace. It is likely the last of its kind.}
Barratore shouts "Victory!" and and jumps to the bow to watch as the sea monster floats above the abyss. Close by Murag shakes the slime from his face and watches as the party finishes what the creature began. Once again Flower shows that appearance means nothing. This creatures size made it look fierce but it was no match for this mighty group."Thinks the Half Orc as he walks towards Brom. Placing a hand on the rager's shoulder he says. "You fight good." Murag casts a spell to alleviate some of the battering Brom had taken during the fierce but short battle.
The crew comes up from below deck and begin applauding and cheering the League Adventurers and you can tell this is a tale that will be forever told in the taverns of Rum and children will be begging to hear the tale of the giant sea monster. Artus orders a barrel of Rum brought on deck declaring grog would not due to celebrate this occasion, and as the crippled ship drifts along side the squid with the current the group takes advantage of a well earned break.

All players gain 4,300xp for defeating the squid and one hero point for putting it to shame.

The exhilaration of the rage subsides and Brom stands victorious on the battlefield. His spear, and Brom himself, are covered in the gore of the giant beast. He glances back at the ship before returning his gaze to the beast.
"Besides drink, it's what I do good." Brom said. "Thanks fer the patch up." He says to Murag. The ale comes up top and Brom turns and smiles. "Time fer my other favorite thing."
Brom grabs three mugs, one for Barratore, one for himself, and one for Edson. "The first drink." He says raising his mug.

Barratore turns to face the rest of the group from the bow of the Seasprite. There was not to do with the monster but let it slip beneath the waves. The creature was already forgotten, now it was time to celebrate. Adrenaline still rushed through his veins and the big fighter kept down from the bow to come at Brom for a chest bump. He only pauses a moment when Brom has three mugs and hands one to Edson. Barratore plants a firm big hand on Edsons shoulder as he take a mug and raises it. "The first drink and Gargul has to wait another day!" He thunders and then tips the mug back and drains the entire thing.
Barratore turns to sailors and any other, hoisting mug after mug with any and all. Today was another good day. Right now it was drinking and hooting. Later, this evening perhaps, would be time for boasting and good natured ribbing.

Edson downs the ale provided to him. "The only thing Gargul is getting from us are the souls we send him." The elf pats both men on the back, knowing they did most of the work.
"And a big thanks to our new ally for helping us stay healthy."

Zalmay looks around at the ship, wondering just how badly it's been damaged. He's no sailor... but those more knowledgeable than him don't seem too concerned, if they're breaking into the rum ration. He shudders for a moment, remembering their last drinking party and the epic hangover that ensued... and then imagining that experience on a rocking boat. But one glass wouldn't hurt. It might take the edge off, His nerves are still buzzing after the fight with... whatever the hell that was...
He joins the group and fills a mug. "So I take it we won't have to walk home after all?"
Harvest Moon (AC22/Touch21/FF18; CMD 26; HP HP 57/57) - Al d20+6=17 ; Friday March 28th, 2014 8:47:15 AM
Harvest Moon turns her head from where she squats next to the great four-foot section of severed tentacle lying on the deck. The others are happy. They revel. It is good to find satisfaction in one's chosen vocation. In this case, as protectors. There was a time in which she would have ignored them, finding their joys and delights not things that were to her taste and therefore irrelevant. But now, after nearly two years in social company, Harvest Moon knows that it would be ungracious of her not to join in.
She reaches out once more to touch the smooth yielding flesh, the last traces of The Old One. Then she rises to join the others. There are earthen mugs, and Harvest Moon takes one. Of the rum she partakes, but mixes it with water - more water flavored with rum than the other way around.
"First drink," echoes Harvest Moon, raising the clay mug. Then, "The Old One was likely the only one of its kind," she says. "I think that there will be no more."
"It is also quite possible that it was The Old One that had been eating the shrimp boats. If the boat was small enough, it is something that The Old One could have done, I think. But we do not know this for certain. I question why such a creature as The Old One would eat boats. Most especially as there is likely more natural and more delicious shrimp swimming about." Harvest Moon shrugs. "Perhaps it was evil," she adds.
"It would have been good to be able to cut open the body of The Old One. Then we could have seen whether traces of the boats were within. But The Old One's body has sunk away, pierced as it is by our blades. We can only wait. If there are no more disappearances, then, I think that we may be satisfied."
As the celebration continues, Harvest Moon drifts away. With a leisurely hop, she goes over the side and runs along beside the SeaSprite. She has swum in the ocean many times since finding her way to the miraculous sea. Never, however, has she experienced walking upon it. While on the water, Harvest Moon runs around the ship, examining the damage. There are many things that she has read about the building of things, and she applies this knowledge to her assessment of the damage.

Murag scans the rest of the group to make sure he did not missed any injuries. Nodding his head he smiles as the crew comes up from below deck and begins to cheer.
As the rum is brought out he makes his way over to grab a cup he stops by where Harvest is examining the section of tentacle. He looks at the rubbery appendage and notices fir the first time the perfect symmetry of the suction cups and the varied hue of the flesh. One would not be able to notice it from far away but up close. "Flower's beauty in all the creatures" he says to Harvest. "Sad to hear you say no more of creature around."
He makes it to the barrel in time to get a mug of the rum. Raising it in the air he smiles "Good fight and good fighters. Murag glad he can help." He states before downing the mug in one gulp. He relaxes with the others for a while before finding a spot on the deck to clean his armour and sword.
The cleric listens to Harvest's theory about the monster and boats, thinks for a few moments before saying. "Squid make mess when it fights. If others take ship s maybe others make squid attack us to...." The half orc thinks hard for a few more moments. "To cover steps." He says finally.
