With Trinawii's directions firmly in mind, you set off to find treants, arranging yourselves into a logical marching order.

The remainder of the day's travel is uneventful, and before you know it the sun is lowering in the sky and it is time to make camp.

(Ezra, the Second) Yngvar Hefnd AC 14{18}/14{18}/12{16} Mage Armor up -- CMD 13 -- HP 31/31  d20+3=13 ; d20+6=7 ;

I'm hoping treant's are dormant at night. I'd like a decent night of sleep! Once a location is found for camp, not Yngvar's forte (Survival=13), he'll start on dinner, which he botches (craft:cook=7).

There's a reason I eat at Haggard's. Anyone else want to take a stab at this?

And as the evening draws on, I'd like to copy another of your skills, if you're open to it?

Yeshua helps gather kindling and wood for a fire, and once that's done, he and Truman go hunting for something suitable for dinner... (Maybe a small mammal or some sort of game that can be BBQ'd to feed the party...)

Once that's done, he'll set up some snares and noise makers around the perimeter so that anything or anyone that comes near will set them off and give the party an early notice...

Finally, both will volunteer to take the middle watch, since the casters usually need a period of uninterrupted sleep...

As the group settles for rest, Faust speaks, "Actually....I did think of one reason why D.A.R.E. would want Mywhyrr...it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they kidnapped her in order to get Trinawii's cooperation. Now, such a plan would indeed be amazingly convoluted to be anything but conspiracy theory, but supposing that Trinawii is well known to local tribes, it's not too crazy to want her as an ally."

"I'm not saying that she led us onto a trap, but it is a possibility, ergo let's be extra cautious and keep our eyes and ears open just in case they're expecting us."

For marching order, if it still matters, I propose Ragnarök and Yeshua&Truman on the front, as scouts; Za as the first line ater scouts; then Yngvar and Faust; and then last, but not least, Toregan&Velox, since Toregan prefers ranged but can still be effective in melee in case we are attacked from the back.

I agree with Fausts marching order. If it comes up, that's the one I'd prefer.

Toregan helps the group find a proper site for camp, and aids Yeshua and Truman with the hunt.

"Well, even assuming she isn't leading us into a trap, there is probably a good chance we'd end up walking into one anyways. Seems like D.A.R.E is always prepared for us whenever we meet them."

Toregan then chooses a spot on the ground to lay his bedroll and sits down atop it once its placed. "I'll take last watch. It'll give me time to attune myself the the jungle."

When you make camp, your new companion Yeshua, with the help of his animal friend, hunts up some dinner. Yngvar attempts to cook it. How hard could it be, right? Just stick it over the fire for a little while. Spices and seasonings are for people who can't cast Prestidigitation!

The results are not exactly appetizing, but the food is hot and filling, and you manage to eat it.

You keep watch through the night. The jungle makes its usual noises, but nothing approaches to disturb your camp. Morning comes with a light mist, which soon burns off as you make your way in search of treants.

Shortly after you break for a midday meal, your forward scouts see some activity ahead. They approach stealthily, and soon spy a trio of large lizards. They seem to be hunting--and they seem to have caught your scent. And, while human and drow are probably not their preferred dinner, it appears they're not in a mood to be picky.

And a map. Only the forward scouts are shown; everyone else is off the map to the west.

Then he takes his bow off his shoulders and begins moving toward the southern lizard; toward A,17

Hearing of the threat, Za'Reed casts a spell and moves closer to the lizards. [If you were 30 feet behind the advance scouts, it would be hard to make it all the way down to 17 in a single move. I put you at A-13.]

Ragnarök spends his turn retrieving and drinking a potion.

Yngvar casts a Mage Armor spell. [Do you also move forward?] He makes plans to cast an illusion spell as soon as he is in range.

Yeshua moves to a nearby tree, which Truman climbs. Both man and cat are very stealthy and difficult to detect.

Faust casts Haste, managing to catch everyone in the party.

Yeshua and Truman both appreciate the benefit of the haste but wait until the lizards get closer to attack... They remain absolutely still and quiet, concealed in the brush and waiting on their prey... The hunter has become the hunted...

Yeshua and Truman will both ready their attacks, which will be triggered by the southernmost coming within pouncing range of Truman and then they can both surprise it and rip and tear at... OOC: Natural Attacks work as such: if only use one (such as in a Standard Action), it counts as primary (even if it's normally not)

If you get to use more than one (Full Attack, for example), the distinction between primaries and secondaries apply.

Primary attacks are made at full BAB and receive full Str bonus (regardless of how many are there); Secondary ones are made at -5 and only receive 1/2 Str bonus (there is a feat for lowering the to-hit onus).

Truman should have Pounce, however, which allows the user to make a full attack after a charge.

Yngvar casts a spell. [I assume Silent Image? That's a long-range spell, so you can cast it from off the map. I'm not 100% sure I understand what you described, so I'm putting something on the map and you can tell me what I got wrong. :) ]

Toregan and his pet move up. [Velox is a non-combatant companion, correct? Or will he be participating?]

Ragnarök does his thing where he rushes forward and dares his opponents to hit him. Two of the massive lizards try to bite him as he moves forward, but their jaws snap on empty air.

Za'Reed steps forward and fires two magical shots at lizard #2. One hits and does damage.

Yeshua and Truman ready actions. [What Pedro said. :) There is not a specific bonus for "death from above," but I think it's quite reasonable to call it a charge and apply the corresponding bonuses.]

Faust has some advice on strategy, and hits lizard #2 with a spread of Magic Missiles.

Lizards #1 and #2 stay where they are, because they are not bright and do not understand, as the DM does, that attacking Ragnarök is a dumb strategy. Both miss.

Lizard #3 moves forward, into range of Yeshua and Truman's ambush. Truman's attack misses, but one of Yeshua's hits.

The lizard snaps at Yeshua, and hits! Sharp teeth close around him for 26 damage, but that's not the worst of it! Poison seeps into the wound; Yeshua must make a DC 19 Fortitude save or take 2 points of Dex damage. Worse still, the teeth continue to hold on; Yeshua is grabbed. If nothing is done, he'll be swallowed whole!

OOC: Ken, when swallowed whole (as in, after actually being inside the creature), you'll be considered grappled and will take damage every round (apparently it's usually bite damage, in this case 2d8 + 12) with no check.

The whole situation counts as grappling, so to get out you can simply roll against the grapple (which in this case will be to climb out).

Or, you can try to attack its innards and cause enough slashing or piercing damage to carve your way out.

Further details here

Za'Reed moves up to attack lizard #3, but the creature's hide is thick, and Za's stroke isn't hard enough to penetrate it.

Toregan, remembering his training on how to bring these beasts down, unleashes a truly terrifying volley of arrows. They hit with a rapid thunk-thunk-thunk-thunk!, and lizard #3 goes down!

Ragnarök continues his strategy of running between the two remaining lizards, making faces and yelling "ooga-booga!" [OOC: do you have a feat or something that lets you take a full defense and move on the same round? Normally full defense is a full-round action (hence the name), so you can't take a move action on the same round.] The lizards bite at him as he passes, but miss. Then they bite at him again for their standard action, but miss again.

Rules for Swallow Whole can be found here. In general, I'd appreciate if people would try to find answers to their questions in the PRD before asking me, especially when we're in combat. Just one less thing for me to stress about. :)

Yngvar has little to contribute, apart from verbal support. On the plus side, his idiot DM may have finally put the wall in the right place.

Za'Reed is somewhat dismayed that his sword didn't get through the lizard's hide last round. He darts over to a new opponent, drawing an Attack of Opportunity as he does so (these creatures have reach). Sharp teeth close on the drow, and Za'Reed takes 19 points of damage. Poison seeps into his veins; he must succeed at a DC 19 Fortitude save or take 1 point of Dexterity damage. The teeth tighten around him, and Za'Reed is held fast. [Za'Reed is grappled.]

Yeshua and Truman move to a handy position behind a tree. Ordinarily this would be a double move, but both are Hasted (or at least Yeshua is), so they could use a standard action if they wanted to.

Ragnarök goes full defensive (for reals this time!), hoping to absorb more attacks while his friends get with the killin'.

Toregan re-positions himself and shoots, hitting the lizard for more damage.

Okay, here's where we are. Faust hasn't posted. Yeshua posted, but shorted himself and Truman a standard action. Za'Reed posted, but he got grappled in an AoO and wasn't able to take his declared action. So, what I'd like is for Faust, Yeshua, and Za'Reed to post actions for this round (or revised actions, whatever the case may be). Yngvar can change his mind and do something, too, if he wants. Toregan and Ragnarök do need to post because there's a daily posting requirement, but please do not post actions as we're still resolving the current round. The lizards will go once the revised actions are in, and then we'll proceed. Sound good?

Oh yeah, there's a new map, too.

Marty, my apologies. When I said "post revised actions," I didn't mean that you could revise your whole turn. I should have made that clear. You did take the move you stated earlier, so you are at J-9, and you are grappled. You have a standard action remaining. With that standard action, you can do something to escape the grapple, or you can try to attack. You won't be able to move until you somehow deal with the grapple. You also need a Fortitude save for the poison.

Ken, my further apologies. I saw your question before, but forgot to answer it. The save is supposed to be once per round for 6 rounds or until you save twice in a row. I mis-read it as one save every six rounds. Since I don't actually want to reduce your Dex to 0, let's stick with the mis-read once every six rounds. Maybe these guys have wimpy poison or something. :) So you've got a ways to go before you need to make another save.

(Ooc do we have a community pool of money to pay for those wands of healing? If so then Yeshua will contribute some.)

"Indeed it's good we managed to get all out of the fight in one piece, those were some really nasty creatures right there. I'm not against resting, it will be well deserved!", says Faust as he puts his wand away in some deep frustration.

OOC: The ones we have right now were found, not bought. But yes, everyone pitching for more is a good idea once we have some downtime, the one I have is almost empty.

You know, I'd like to get one of those as a youngling, they look like an awesome ride!

After the battle, you concentrate on getting healed up. Toregan is a big help, though the wands won't last forever. [OOC: Those of you with kobold necklaces, remember that each of them has a single healing available.]

People who were poisoned continue to feel the ill effects. Za'Reed, one more DC 19 Fort save or take 2 additional points of Dexterity damage. Yeshua, two more DC 19 Fort saves or take 1 and 1 additional points of Dexterity damage.

You agree to make camp--maybe not right here, as the dead dinos are getting kind of whiffy. But once you put about a half-mile between yourselves and the stench of carrion, you are able to set up camp and rest. [Ability damage heals at 1 point per day. The spell Lesser Restoration can help you recover more, but I'm not sure anyone can cast it.

The night is uneventful. In the morning, you can prepare new spells and resume your journey.

Yeshua (Ken) AC 19 (poison -3 dex loss) and Truman AC 20; Joint hp pool 76/82  d20+10=21 ; d20+10=21 ;

Yeshua and Truman enjoy the rest and take a chance to clean all the goop and gunk off of themselves. Truman uses his long tongue to clean himself while Yeshua takes a quick bath in a local stream...

The next morning he feels refreshed and is able to shake off some of the poison's effects... (Fort - 21 and 21, so no extra Dex loss and 1 point is regained...)

He also gratefully thanks Toregon for the healing and says, "I owe you one brother..."

After a light breakfast he and Truman are ready to depart and take point with any others who wish to join them...

Za can't seem to shake the poison, which doesn't allow him very much rest either. After tossing and turning he wakes up a bit grumpy. Not saying anything but thank you to Toregan for the healing.

Moving notably less graceful he moves out after a light breakfast as well.

Faust helps to get lizard goo and blood out of everyone's clothing and equipment with Prestidigitation, if not for anything else, just to get rid of the foul smell.

Come the morning, Faust also goes for a light snack and makes his morning preparations, getting ready for the leave when everyone is ready.
