OOC: Per post from Thurs: "Sorry, I thought the climber was out of sight. If not, Tink will absolutely follow the glowing climber". I assume Tink is following the climber that Beri too is after

Tink continues her upwards flight towards the glowing climber. Her small stature should allow some manoeuvrability between the cables. She hopes to sneak up on the climber and take him by surprise.

Skill checks:
Acrobatics: 12
Fly: 28
Perception: 31 + Arcane Sight - Does she detect multiple auras on the target? Can she determine any characteristics about her target? Gender? Race?
Stealth: 49 + Hide in Plain Sight

====================
Spells in Effect
Overland Flight - 11hrs
Misdirection - 22hrs
Mage Armor - 22hrs
Detect Scrying - 24hrs

====================
*Arcane Sight: You know the location and power of all magical auras within your sight. An aura's power depends on a spell's functioning level or an item's caster level, as noted in the description of the detect magic spell. If the items or creatures bearing the auras are in line of sight, you can make Spellcraft skill checks to determine the school of magic involved in each. (Make one check per aura; DC 15 + spell level, or 15 + half caster level for a nonspell effect.).
Spellcraft checks if needed: 32, 32, 36, 31, 24

DM JT: this will be a short post.

Tink and Beri corner the glowing Climber. He tries to climb one way to another but Beri and Tink's abilities to fly make it impossible for him to get away. He finally stops trying and although he doesn't understand the Air Elemental, he seems to understand that escape is hopeless.

As Tink closes in, her Arcane Sight reveals an aura of enchantment on the glowing human male Climber.

Back on the ground, Restlin leads the others into the shop. Out of the bright sunlight, the interior seems quite dim at first but with a few seconds of adjustment, the group's eyes adjust. There are about a dozen browsers inside mingling among the glassed in shelves. The shelves line the walls and several rows of shelves fill the center of the large rectangle room. The shelves hold copies of items, some labeled as magical, others as masterwork, from jewelry to tools. These items have a coded number.

The IA who've been through the shops before, either to shop or to get to the other side of the river, know that one chooses the item he wants and the shop attendant looks up the coded number. A messenger is sent to the shop's warehouse and the real item is then sent to the buyers home. Chits are exchanged at the shop.

The rows of display shelves reach waist high so the group can easily see across the room.

At the back end of the shop is the shop owner's counter.

A young shop attendant approaches Restlin and asks "Are you being served, Sir?"

Restlin grins warmly at the attendant. One aspect of Hook City that he's always been fond of is the pleasant manner in which one is treated when commerce is in the air.

"I have not, miss, but I'm afraid I'm here on more official business. A person of interest entered this establishment a few seconds prior to us." Restlin looks around again. "Their appearance may have changed as they entered. Are you able to point out the person who entered before us?"

In auran she speaks to air-elemental Beri: "I speak Auran fluently. If there is anything you wish to add, I will translate on your behalf"

Tink folds her arms and hovers in place, eyeballing the climber before her. She pauses for a moment to inspect him and perhaps give him time to sweat. She pulls out her holy symbol of Pantheon and holds it out for the man to see before speaking very plainly. "I am a Justicar. If you hold back anything, I'll arrest you. If you bend the truth or I think you're bending the truth, I'll arrest you. If you forget anything, I'll arrest you. In fact, you're gonna have to work very hard to stay free. Now, do you understand everything I've just said? 'Cause if you don't, I'll arrest you!" (Intimidate check: 19)

Truth Test (Su): With a successful Sense Motive check secretly opposed by either a Will save or a Bluff check (target's choice), the justicar can tell when a target creature is lying, just like a Discern Lies spell. However, the justicar must be holding his holy symbol and concentrating on a target creature for this ability to function. If the target is deliberately lying or trying to mislead the justicar, the symbol glows with a pure white light. If the target is telling the truth, or wins the sense motive check, or unknowingly tells a lie, the symbol stays dark.

Beri floats ominously above the climber, speaking in a deep, echoing voice that sounds like the a gust of wind echoing through the chambers of an empty cavern.
I'm glad someone that can translate joined me, it should make this a little more interesting. When he claims they were innocent bystanders can you ask him why he didn't run to the aid of his fellow climbers, and why they ALL fled if they were innocent? And why at just the moment that they were spotted by us.

Restlin leads Sesha, Anrete, Bosk, and Garret into the shop and their sharp eyes quickly adjust to the light inside. Glowing orbs on the walls help some too.
Restlin is approached by a shop assistant who inquires of their service needs and Restlin obliges by politely responding
"I have not, miss, but I'm afraid I'm here on more official business. A person of interest entered this establishment a few seconds prior to us." Restlin looks around again. "Their appearance may have changed as they entered. Are you able to point out the person who entered before us?"

The (female) shop attendant looks to her left and points to a man who Restlin recognizes as the one that was right in front of him when they entered. "Sir, that man here was right in front of you, but surely he's not the one you are looking for, for you nearly pushed him through yourself in your haste to get in."
She smiles. "There were some others....hmm...let's see, I was busy there..."

At this point the attendant is interrupted by an old lady. (DM OOC: picture an old grandma with shaky voice.)
"Young Man, I bet all my chicken gizzards you looking for that cloaked one that was rude to me just a second ago."
The old lady with a cane pushes the attendant to the side.
"I love the Day of Faith Festival as much as anyone else. I expect crowds and some difficulty getting around. But these young'uns these days just are rude. This young man barges in here, nearly knocks me over and vanishes like a cloud of smoke, narry a word of appologies, no Sorry Mam!, just up and vanished! The nerve to treat the elderly like that! You'd think he was raised by barbarians or something! Hummpf!"

The sharp eyes of the IA, looking around, do not see anyone invisible. Magical auras abound on those patrons present, but are minor. Hook City being a magical city where everyone can cast cantrips, this makes sense. From perfumy smells to clean clothes to fancy tatoos. Even hairdoos have magical auras.

No one really pays attention to the old lady and the IA are harrassed by 'Excuse me' and 'Pardon me' as patrons try to squeeze by.

Behind the shop owner's counter is the only other exit. The attendant behind the counter is helping a customer. He has a very large book open and is writting down something while the customer has his finger on the open page and is nodding.

Up in the sky outside, Tink and Beri have the Climber cornered. They trust their friend to have marked the right one, but still are cautious to not prejudge.
There is nothing unusual about the man as far as looks goes other than that he is very short for a human. But all the Climbers are, so that in itself, isn't unusual.

Katinka translates Beri's message to the glowing Climber:
"The air elemental here wants to know why you all fled if you were innocent? And why at just the moment that you were spotted by us and the commotion had died down. From the looks of him he's getting ready to pluck you off that cable. Hope he isn't planning on dropping you"

"Innocent? I do my job, of course I'm innocent! Whatever it is you are going to accuse me of, I'm Innocent. I fled because the others fled. And... and that wizard looked really mean at us. And... we were told to flee... or he'd get us. And look, it was true. He is mean and he just might pluck me off and drop me!"

DM JT OOC: Sometimes playing NPCs is a chore, I'm having a little fun playing these. :)

If Tink's holy symbol remains its pure silver color - and does not glow - then she sees no reason to doubt the man's honesty.

"I detect an aura of enchantment surrounding this man" Tink speaks to Beri in auran, so the climber presumably won't understand "It's possible he was enchanted to run simply as a diversion to distract us from the real culprit. What do you think?"

Restlin bends down, takes the older lady's hand, and kisses it. "Madam, you've been a tremendous help. If I catch any youngsters disrespecting those around them for the remainder of the festival, it will be my pleasure to put them in their place in your honor." While he is touching her, he'll try to discern whether or not this woman is their target in disguise.

Assuming she's not...

Restlin looks to the counter. Is it possible for someone to quickly and quietly get over the counter and out the back door w/o anyone noticing? Is the door wide open, or would someone have to physically open it to get out?

If the door is wide open and it would be easy enough for someone invisible to waltz through it w/o anyone noticing, he'll suggest they exit through the back with haste. If it seems unlikely that someone could have gotten out the back w/o anyone noticing in the time frame the perp had, then he'll figure they either teleported away or are still here.

Inside the shop:
Restlin is so the gentleman and conforts the old lady, promising to set the young miscreants right if he catches any disrespecting the olderly. While doing so, he kisses her hand and concentrates on breaking through any illusion that this is the one they are after.

His powers of illusion detecting reveal to him that this indeed is an old lady, and smells much like an old lady, very strong perfume, as old ladies tend to forget how much they've put on and put more on just in case. You never know who you gonna meet in the street, so go prepared as your best.

The old lady smiles and acts coyly, "Oh, your are the true gentleman. Why, had I met you some years ago..." she chuckles.

Anrete flashes his teeth menacing at the old lady as he observes the old lady for clues.

She, in turn, holds up her cane and puts the point against his chest.
"You see here you brute. You take heed of this gentleman's warning! You heard what he said, HUH!" As quick as she has said this she puts the cane back down and sais to Restlin, "You watch that one. He smells of trouble, he does." and turns to go back to the display case she had been looking at before the interruption.

Restlin looks about the room again.

They all notice that the back door is closed. It would be some feat to have entered moments before, slipped through the display cases and crowed, passed by the shop attendant and patron at the back, open the door (if it was closed then), go through and close it again. Their target only had a small lead (two rounds in game terms). And he would have had to vault over the back counter too, as the counter, the Purchase Order Desk, encloses the back area and the door, with no visible opening (can't go under the counter top, it is not an open counter.)

DM JT: I hope that describes it well enough. It is three sides with the back wall and door making the fourth side of a rectangular space where the attendant takes the order. The counter is an enclosed one so you can't go under, only over.

Garret is attentive, preferring to stay quiet and watch.
"Up and gone? Well, perhaps the others are having better luck..."

Bosk:
ooc: Can we see the man that we followed into the shop, or did he vanish? If so, do any of us get an AoO on him?

DM JT OOC: the one Restlin had his eye on had two rounds head start. That is, by the time you got to the shop and entered, he/she/it/something had entered two rounds previous.

The minotaur cleric studies the old lady while she and Restlin speak and feels confident she is telling the truth. As such, Bosk is sure that none of the others inside are the one they are looking for. For what he saw of their suspect, none inside match the clothing. It is a warm day and all those inside are wearing clothes appropriate to the Festival. That is, some are rather outlandish, some fancy, some goofy, but none with the cloak he saw.

Sesha suspects their target used a teleportation spell to get away. That would make sense, as her intuition tells her that going invisibly might make one unseen, but still have difficulty in managing the crowds and could still be spotted by keen eyes who are looking for just that.

Outside:
Katinka informs Beri of the aura of enchantment on the Climber, then asks the Clmber:
WHO told you to flee? Describe him" (Sense Motive: 34, Perc: 27) with a BIG emphasis on the 'who'.

"He who must not be named!"

DM JT: err, sorry, wrong storry.

"My...uhm...the guy that...uhm...what's his name...uhm...Ya know, I don't think I ever heard her name. If I did, I've somehow forgot it. Come to think of it, it's like I always knew her, yet I can't remember from where, or when. Just that she was, y'know, an old friend. It never occured to me to be anything otherwise."

Katinka asks the questions Beri poses.

"Oh, I live at 'address such and such. Been there a while. As far as my friend goes, I don't remember anything special about her. She always wore that cloak and I don't remember seing anything special. Don't recall ever seeing her cast anything either. Although at first it was just her, then I meet a couple more friends of hers. Friends of hers are friends of mine," he grins broadly.

Meahwhile, Tink's holy symbol remains unlit, 'quiet', dark.

DM JT: hmm... interesting stuff, eh? hm....

Restlin nods to the woman. "He's trouble, all right. Bottomless appetite and atrocious table manners. However, he's saved us all on occasion and has a good heart under that exterior." With that, he lets her go about her business.

"Friends, the person I was following is either hidden in here or teleported away. I have no means of finding her if she's gone, so let's be sure she's not here before we leave. Bosk, you can see through illusion better than most of us, I imagine. You should guard the front entrance and make sure she doesn't try to leave in disguise."

Restlin will then cast detect magic and spend some time studying the auras in the room. He's looking for one of two things:

A: Traces of conjuration magic where the old woman said our target poofed away from (signs of a teleport spell).
B: Illusion magic indicating a full disguise on a patron here, or on the back door itself (maybe it was opened while under the illusion that it remained closed).

He hopes Beri and Tink are having better luck. He'll whisper in Sesha's ear before investigating, "good thinking with that faerie fire, little witch. Not even Tink would have been able to find that climber in the maze of cables without it."

Restlin expresses his fears that (she?) who they were after absconded by magical means. To verify that, he:
A: Traces of conjuration magic where the old woman said our target poofed away from (signs of a teleport spell).
B: Illusion magic indicating a full disguise on a patron here, or on the back door itself (maybe it was opened while under the illusion that it remained closed).

By now, of course, they've attracted some attention from the patrons. Good thing the festive spirit is high, otherwise they'd be annoyed at the disturbance.

Bosk is asked to guard the front door and watch for illusions and invisible people. Meanwhile, Restlin looks for traces of conjuration magic. He finds none. Which is puzzling. He looks for illusion magic and finds none anywhere either. Another puzzle.

Bosk has the same results.

Garret slips outside and watches the crowd pass by. He sees the excitement over where the rescue had occured subside and Climber crews already working on repairing the cable. But of all that, he does not spot who they are looking for.
Up in the cablng, he sees Tink and Beri with the cornered glowing Climber.

Sesha is inwardly giddy about playing a key roll in catching one of the Climbers. She agrees that the chase inside seems over and returns outside. The bright sun glares down but she can glimps the two IA members with their captured querry. Hopping on her broom, she flies up but only manages to penetrate 10' into the cablng before finding that her broom is not as good at maneuvering in the cabling as Tink's flying.

DM JT: A flying PC can grasp cables and use them to help maneuver. A broom is not very flexible and thus harder to negotiate the cable webbing. Not really an issue here but does give you a picture.

Tink informs Beri that she believes the man tells the truth. She appologizes to the Climber and offers him a couple gold coins appologizing that she does not have any Chits.

"Oh, that's all right, mam. Gold has its uses, sooner or later."

Tink then informs him of her discover of the charm aura on him.
"You may have been the subject of a spell cast by this woman. It would be worth giving your details to the constabulary to register this attack. One further question if I may - did she ask you to do anything to the cables?"

The man looks pensive, then shrugs over the suggestion that he has been charmed. "Odd, I don't feel nuthing. But say, all though she did not tell us to do anything with the cables, (the gods forbid such a sacriledge) he mutters whispering, she did ask us to turn and look at the pretty sunrise early this morning at dawn and not turn around until she said so. I thought that was odd but the sunrise was beatiful indeed."

Beri asks what color of the cloak and if it was silver.

"No, it was not silver. They were all dark. She wore a black cloak while the others were dark grey."

Tink translates this to Beri.

"Thankyou for your cooperation today. A few final questions if I may? Oh, how rude of me, you must be awfully uncomfortable holding on to that cable. Would you prefer to speak on the ground?"

Tink asks the man if he would describe the woman as "being middle aged, dressed well but plain, long dark hair". She is looking to rule out the woman who screamed at the previous crime scene. She also enquires further on these "others" who wore dark grey. How many were there? What race and gender were they? Does he recall any names? Had they met previously?

"You have been a tremendous help today, sir. And once again, my sincerest apologies for the actions of myself and my comrades. I do hope you enjoy the Day of Faith Festival"

With the man on his way, Tink keeps an eye on him as she asks Beri "That was a curious question you asked about the cloak being silver in colour. Would that have meant something to you?"

Tink sighs. The man was speaking plainly with her and she sees no reason to doubt his honesty. Perhaps the others are having better luck?

Thursday March 27th, 2014 7:32:00 PM

DM JT: this post is just to get the current posts out of the way. I've got a dinner to go to and not sure what time I'll be back.

The Climber responds to Katinka's concern for his 'haning in there'. "Ma'm, I'm a Climber. I spend my days doing just this. We have safety belts if we are going to do some really dangerous work, but otherwise, we just hang around."

The man, for being short, does have very well developed arms and shoulders. He'd be a tough opponent at an Arm Wrestling match.

"I only know the two that were with us this morning. The others we only saw once and it was dark and only for a short moment."
He's pretty sure that the two that were with them this morning were female and elven. As far as the others, there were three others, he couldn't tell, but one was pretty short, like himself, and they did not mention any names, but seemed to speak with their hands.

"I will certainly enjoy the Festival. Tomorrow is the big day. You be here, or be square," he smiles and 'scampers' off through the cables.

Garret starts looking for something to eat. Normally, the Bridge is reserved for 'important' merchandise and goods, but being the Day of Faith Festival Week, there are plenty of food peddlers with magically pulled food carts. These carts also magically keep the food warm or cold. You take your pick, the variety runs the gammut. Deep fried stuff seems to be very popular. Deep fried stuff you'd never think could be deep fried. If Anrete had a mind to it, he'd probably make a small fortune selling deep fried things he likes to catch and cook.

Drinks too. Cold, warm, bitter, sweet, frothy, smooth, just name it, there's a seller hawking it.

Anrete snorts and wanders around a bit. [DM JT: inside or out? following Garret?]

Restlin scratches his head. A puzzle indeed. No signs of conjuration magic and no signs of illusion. Nothing invisible or he'd see it. He puts his little brain cells, a several million of them, to work on that puzzle and comes up with what could be the solution. He remembers that Bosk can briefly go into the shadow world and travel short distances and not cast a spell to do that. Perhaps something similar occured here.

DM JT: more later when I get back and others have posted. You guys are doing great, even if it seems slow.

The other one we chased vanished, either through magic or something else. I don't suppose you could spend some time inspecting the cables? I doubt there's anything there but it would be careless not to try. I'll try to get Little Spirit to tell me what she can tonight. "

"Wee if the others found anything?" Clearly there is a cultural gap between Tink and Beri. That, or the Iron Adventurer's have a disturbing way of signalling each other.

Nevertheless, they should check in on the other group. Tink gives a nod to Beri, and descends with him to go in search of the rest of the group.

The Marvelous Hook City Bridge (co-DM JonathanT)
Friday March 28th, 2014 12:12:26 AM

Part Dos:
Restlin informs Bosk that he recalls that there are other means of vanishing that are not spells, like his own ability to venture into the Shadow Realm.

A small torch appears over the minotaur's head as the idea of moving through the shadow realm strikes him.

Several patrons, not knowing what this is all about, roll their eyes and suddenly several others have little torches floating above their heads. The patron at the Purchase Desk laughs and then he has a three branched candelabra holding small flickering torches appears above his.

Before anyone realises it, a Fancy Torch competition is in full swing between half a dozen patrons.

The horned cleric is completely unaware of what he started as his his eyes go out of focus and the Wold blurs around him as the etheral realm comes into view.

A shadowy semblance of the shop and it's patrons remain to keep Bosk from wondering too far into the Shadow Real. He squints, peers, and studies the area around him very hard, but finds nothing to indicate a presence in the Shadow Realm like his. Being in the doorway, he also peers outside (60'), but the results are the same. There could have been, but there are none now. Too bad the Shadow Real does not leave footprints in the 'sand'.

Beri and Tink return back to the ground to 'wee' (as Beri would say) if the others found anything.

They find Garret holding a mug of (something) and eating something with Anrete looking on, trying to choose what to eat next, what Garret has and seem like a copy cat, or get something different. He eyes a vendor that puts a stick down in a vat, whirls it around, and comes up with a big blob of a cottony looking thing on the stick that the kids go wild for.

Sesha pretty much assesses the situation correctly and wonders if they should spend some time inspecting more of the cables. Her thoughts are answered when Inspector Auslander catches up with them. He informs them that the Climbers are all over the area inspecting the cables. As an aside, he notes that on Jump of Faith Day (tomorrow) all available Climbers will be present, and he has been assured that there will be extra guards on the bridge over night.

Perhaps Little Spirit will help some too.

DM JT: I think you guys have exhausted what information is available here. I believe you wanted to go see the Seers? Since this may take a long time, bureaucracy et al, now would be a good time to do that and hope to be done before dawn. :)

To the Seers (co-DM SteveK)
Monday March 31st, 2014 10:43:31 PM

The Iron Adventurers think perhaps the Seers might tell them something more. Restlin has some great information (being a denizen of Hook City all his life) and can tell new and old that similar to Mages and Sages in Hook City, most Seers are NOT part of an organized guild like many other cities, but hang their shingle on their own. There are two groups, however, within the city that has a higher concentration of Seers. The first is a small group employed by the Star Mages Guild, occasionally on retainer by the Hook City bureaucracy, and so doubly not looked upon with favor by the normal guy on the street (like Restlin's background).

The second group is all the way back in North Hook off the Marble Causeway along where all the temples are. This is because this group of Seers are affiliated with the northern god, Jantierri, who is the sleeping goddess and seers revere her for the visions she brings. Strangely, Restlin will report to the others that this Jantierri is not looked on with suspicion like the other northern gods, perhaps because she herself is not active and so doesn't bring any northern aggression with her worship.

Where would the Iron Adventurers like to go? (Pretty much have the choice of talking with an individual Seer, trying to get time with the Star Mages Guild Seers, or seeking out the Seers of Jantierri.)

The Seers of Jantierri (co-DM SteveK)
Wednesday April 2nd, 2014 8:14:28 PM

With happy hearts and several heroes with handfuls of festival goodies, the Iron Adventurers make their way across the crowded Bridge to the north end to descend the Stair. The Bridge is busy at normal times, and with only one sleep from the Day of Faith, it is bustling with a brisk trade and brimming with excitement. The small episode of snapping cables has only heightened interest, and the buzz is that something veeeery special is going to happen tomorrow! Oh, joy!!

With all the crowds, pressure, and sticky festival food to have, it takes nearly an hour to traverse the mile-long Bridge. By that time, some stomachs may be feeling a little queasy from so much sweet and oiled confections. (ooc: DM hereby does not ask for any rolls, but allows Players to play to whatever gastric ailments they may want, from belching to being rather sick over someone's polished hooves...)

The Stair feels ricketty and sways dangerously, always looking like it may fall to pieces at any moment. Quite out of character for a city whose pride is ever-more-impressive marble and alabaster public works. (Arcane or Spellcraft DC 25 Highlight to display spoiler: { (There are some very nice magics that hold the Stair in place and will not allow any person to accidentally fall. Speculation is that the Stair is a 'thrill ride' intended for visiting merchants to demonstrate how important it is to attain the Bridge.) }

The crowds are still busy on the Marble Causeway, but not as tight as the Bridge, and the heroes are able to make better time. It isn't but the asking of directions a couple of times to get to the right place, a Temple set on a side street and not on the Causeway itself. The alley smells of incense and smoke and a sweet whiff of ... something tantilizing at the back of the mind. In the courtyard of the Temple, a small felt tent is off to one side, and smoke wafts from under the edge. A flap is raised and an elf, skinny even for his kind, comes out in a smokey haze. A green hand quickly pulls the flap shut.

The elf's red-rimmed eyes look around and spot the Iron Adventurers. "Whoa, dude, you there? Like, welcome to the Temple of Jantierri, and the best place to see some righteous visions!"

"Aberforth, why don't you go to the temple gardens and enjoy your mellow?" The pleasant but no-nonsense voice comes from a gnome lass, dressed in a simple yellow tunic down to just above her knees. She gets the very high Aberforth going in the right direction with a sigh and a smile, then turns to the group.

"I am Flea, and you don't look like you are here for the normal treatment. Can I help you?" Her smile and cocked head immediately give each adventurer the feeling that there is both flexibility and steel in this small woman, and despite first impressions, she may be able to help.

Katinka watches Flea closely, but there is no spell currently on the cleric. Flea also doesn't seem to notice the scrutiny.

Anrete vehemently denies that there are any fleas about the barbarian, which causes the gnome-girl to smile.

Beri and Tink ask about normal and other services, and Flea waves a hand at the felt tent. "Exploring other methods for letting the material world go in order to gain better understanding of the metaphysical is what most people come to Jactierri for in Hook City. The few clerics here continue to call on a goddess that is dead or sleeping or lost (depending on who you talk to). That and the fact that Jactierri was an Elennian goddess makes most people around here put us in the 'crazy but harmless' category. It's not bad to be ignored and underestimated by others." Here Flea gives an impish grin to Katinka and Garrett, other small people who would know exactly what she is talking about.

Bosk gets excited and has some direct questions about the Sargarass that is no more and about the family of Mara Weaver of Iron Tower neighborhood and her adventurer daughter. But the gnome only shakes her head. "No, sorry, I'm not. I don't know those folk, though I hope you can help the lady feel at ease. 'Flea' isn't that uncommon a nickname among gnomes."

Restlin then asks, and Flea gratefully turns to help, not wanting the awkward moment to continue. "The City officials rarely come to Jactierri for a glimpse of the future, so no, we haven't tried to get a divination. I can perform a Divination for you for a Red Chit, just give me your money and questions up front. As to learning about Jactierri, ask away my Witchy Drow, I'll tell you what I think I know."

"So, any idea what's going to happen tomorrow at the bridge when everyone jumps?"

It's vague, but purposely so. He's paying for a divination, and would rather not have any preconceptions muddying the reading.

OOC: Questions to DM
- Is "Jactierri" the Southern Continent way of saying "Jantierri", another sleeping god, or is it just a DM typo? it is a DM typo
- Tink's Arcane Sight doesn't just reveal active auras but also "the strength of the most powerful spell or spell-like ability the creature currently has available for use." This is important as if the gnome doesn't have the necessary spell casting abilities, or only very minor ones, then Tink may intervene before Restlin hands over a chit
Thanks!

ooc: well blow me down, the spell description does so state! :-)

Katinka's permanently glowing blue eyes take a careful look at Flea the Gnome (ooc: standard action), and the Halfling knows that Flea does indeed have Divine spell capability currently with her of 6th level, so a 4th level Divination is well within her power. What's more, it is fairly obvious that Flea doesn't realize the importance of Katinka's glowing blue eyes and the Arcane Sight spell.

I found a scroll that MAY help, but I haven't had time to crack it open yet. That parts not really important as this... I've always understood that a gods power comes in part from those who worship. The Seers of Jantierri (co-DM SteveK)  d20=16 ;
Saturday April 5th, 2014 8:10:23 AM

Flea's eye light up (not like Katinka's, but like someone who is pleasantly surprised) and she speaks with Sesha as she takes Restlin's Chit and brings them into the incense and other curious odors that ghost through the halls of the Temple to a nearby antechamber. "Before the rise of the Gods of Testing, Jantierri was one of the Serenbeth Maidens (Serenbeth, Jantierri, Jancassis, and Karinthis), who were responsible for all the goals and ambitions of mankind. These gods were the patrons of riches, wisdom, happiness, revenge, ambitions, daydreams, marriage, and all the rest that mortals might seek. In the Year of Ascension, all died except Jancassis, now the god of vengeance", she quotes as if from a well-remembered book, and gives a sideways glance of incredulity. "There were four Sisters. If you are POSITIVE that the one contacting you is dead and one of them..."

Flea is interrupted by Pot-Pot giving a whistle like a kettle on for tea, and then burbles a bit like a stew over a merry fire. Inside Sesha's mind a little-girl voice says with a high lilt at the end: "Uh-Huuuuh!", and then giggles.

The gnome in a yellow tunic stumbles to a halt, tears brimming in her eyes, and spontaneously gives Sesha a hug. "I knew I was right! I knew it! Our goddess is NOT dead, only lost or asleep or in another form! We could not receive divine spells from a source that is not Jantierri, nor our other visions, nor could a BloodWitch bond with her that was separated from the Wold!" In tears of joy, Flea hands Restlin back his chit. "You have given that which is beyond price, and I only pray my meager spells assist you in your service."

It takes a little while for Flea to compose herself and adjust everyone in the room to the satisfaction of all. The room is devoid of furniture except for burlap pillows for sitting and a low table, waist high on Katinka and Flea. Bosk is squeezed into one corner, taking up a quarter of the room, and he has to be very careful not to bump the table or tear open pillows with his hooves... it's not easy being a minotaur!

On the table are refreshments, a tangy-smelling juice and some square rich-brown colored baked goods with bits of dried stuff in a layer inside. "The food and drink is for helping the 'here and now' to slough away if you so choose. It is not needed but available" Flea tells the Iron Adventurers distractedly before turning to Sesha and continuing her joyfully interrupted talk.

"Your allied outsider is one of the dead Serenbeth Sisters," Flea says with conviction accompanied by little-girl 'I've got a secret' laughter along Sesha's telepathic link to Pot-Pot. "There were only four, and Jancassis is known by all to be alive and I know for certain Jantierri is among the sleepers touching many dreams. That means your allied outsider has to be Serenbeth or Karinthis. It seems to me that if your Spirit has not told you, then there is a reason. You have to decide if that is because you are not meant to know or if the journey to an answer is part of a lesson your spirit wants you to know."

With that, Flea turns to other concerns, the casting of a Divination, seeking Jantierri's assistance for wisdom and future sight. It takes 10 minutes of a droning, lulling; a voice rising and falling. Flea lights a stick of incense, and with accompanying movements, outlines each of the Iron Adventurers with tracing symbols and droning words. At the end of every sentence, Flea asks in a rather good impression of Restlin: "So, any idea what's going to happen tomorrow at the bridge when everyone jumps?" The process lasts for 10 long minutes...

And then Flea stiffens and falls backwards onto a pillow. "Restored, Faith and Hope. Wonderful, Artifacts and Teucri. Danger, Theft and Teucri. Convincing, Iron Adventures and Artifacts. Oh my, Jantierri!..." Flea falls into a dead faint.

Restlin feels like someone is staring at him in loathing hatred and his symbol of Wardd feels very, very warm. A compulsion hits the priest of Wardd very strongly, to cram a baked good into his mouth and wash it down with the drink...and he knows he needs to try and resist! (Restlin Will DC20 or compelled to eat and drink)

Restlin and anyone who has eaten or drunk the offered juice and baked goods make 2 Saves; Will DC15 and Fort DC15. The juice catches her eye. "Finally something healthy" Tink helps herself to a cup of the drink. It tastes.... odd, yet very tangy. Perhaps someone left the oranges out? DM SteveK: Restlin realizes what it probably is...a weakened avatar of the sleeping goddess herself! Jantierri was seriously cheesed off at Wardd, tried to have him killed, and instead SHE was the one that was killed and not reincarnated in the Year of Ascension. Sesha is shocked at the bizarre antics of Pot-pot and the sudden gnome-hug. Pot-pot had never communicated with anyone prior, that she knew of, and it seemed certain this gnome heard him. .. Or her, was it now?

The divination was cryptic as always. She had some experience sifting through them, but the general idea of this one was not a happy one. What would be stolen?

Her mind wonders..

Down to two!

Sesha was fairly certain that she knew Little Spirit enough that if she read on both Serenbeth and Karinthis... that maybe she could decide from among them easily....

She was still curious at the sudden change in Pot-pot. From a surly male to a giggle girl.. maybe Little Spirit was leaning on the link more heavily as she came closer to finding out who she was? She couldn't wait to read her scroll on the sisters she had received from Wardds temple!

When Restlin starts smacking food, she leaves her musings behind. Was there some danger here? Certainly not from Flea?

To everyone else, "so, we got our divination. We should probably go." Restlin looks at Flea. He wonders if she's unconscious for trying to help him. Restlin will leave, but won't compel anyone to follow. He surreptitiously sticks out his tongue at a statue/symbol of Jantierri as he leaves.

Katinka and Anrete both eat and drink the proffered baked goods and juice and feel... light-headed. As if things beyond the most immediate here-and-now don't really matter. But that is all that happens.

Bosk may be slightly indignant, knowing ingested poisons carry very stiff penalties in Hook City (as told the cleric by his supplier, JimBim Brodery), but while he correctly deduces the effects, exactly what kind of poison eludes the minotaur.

Maybe not too surprisingly, it is very soon after Restlin leaves that Flea comes to. "I saw a vision of Jantierri!", she exclaims breathless, "you truly have blessed this Temple."

Questioned about the food and drink, Flea looks bewildered. "I had told you the refreshment is meant for the regular guests here. It is not poisoned, but drugged. As they head back to their tower, Sesha continually whapped Restlin, Bosk, Beri, or whoever came near excitedly with her broom chittering about how much she liked Flea, her temple, and every other detail of what she considered an exceptional day

With her other hand she protectively clutched Wards Scroll on the Serenbeth Sisters over her heart, day dreaming about what could be inside. She was almost certain she could distinguish the wants of Karinthis or Serenbeth as common cause with her Little Spirit.

The only thing missing was a communion with Little Spirit tonight and a sweet dream for Mhalice. Looking positively mischievous, she calls Restlin over and sheathes her furious broom.

"Now, this may come as a shock, but I'm almost positive that Mhalice is behind all this. Who else? Now before you interrupt me, listen up. Tonight I'm sending her a little sleepy-time entertainment. Which do you think suits her better? Spiders or scorpions? Both? Wasps? Either way..it's just a detail. The point is that you don't make a rival of a Blood Witch, Mage-Priest. Whether the slight was against me, kith or kin or even Little Spirit... the tally will be paid! Now... about the setting of the nightmare.. I was thinking something dark... brooding.."

The little Witch prattles on for awhile, all the way home, skipping to her own beat as she details the dark tidings heading Mhalice's way.

OOC: If this is the end of day, Sesha will cast two spells. - Repost per DM from Mar 11th. Divination slightly altered due to new info.

1: Nightmare DC 22

Bend Ley: Success - vs DC 25
Ley Roll: Success @ 64
Spell Resistance - vs 29

Target: Mhalice - Will Save modifier +/- 0

Sesha waits patiently at the edge of the other Drows mind. She had pondered how she could force a confrontation with her rival, Mhalice, but could not imagine where to begin. She had found that the Iron Adventurers were a busy group. Too busy, perhaps, to pursue a foe that Sesha hated so completely.

Though the run-in was both brief and isolated, Sesha had found that Mhalice represented everything that people hate about the Drow, and because of that both her Blood-Kin of It'lal and their ancestors had suffered greatly. Her loyalties to both her blood and her adoptive parents among the Ga'alin barbarians demanded that Mhalice be smited, subdued, or destroyed as an enemy of both her peoples.

Sesha sat in trance, waiting until Mhalice finally dozed. To her rivals mind and dreams, Sesha sent flittering images of spiders and scorpions, skittering madly over the flayed hide of Khar Avon, shaved of hair, dripping gore and bits of shattered bone. The vermin writhe and maggots pop. They are eating a pattern.. some design.. in the flesh. But what? Sesha lets the message fade without revealing. There would be more Nightmares to come. Mhalice would see it. Whether it affected her or not, who knew? The important part was she knew someone somewhere was thinking about her...

2: Divination

Bend Leyline: Success 42 vs DC 24
Ley Check - Success @ 108
Divination - Success @ 22%

Sesha shivers away the last remnants of the Nightmare spell, and enlarges Pot-pot to a size large enough to bathe. She heats the water she gathered and begins her spell, finding and seizing a powerful ley-line to fuel it. She allows herself to relax, and pulls the ley energy into the water with her and she submerges under the heated water, cleansing herself of the taint of Mhalice, which to her was palpable.

Her mind clear, she re-emerges and begins to pray to Little Spirit.

"Little Spirit. I have learned of a disaster impending the folk of hook city. It has been foretold by a cleric of your sister, Jantierri, that we will face enemies. Please help your ally, Sesha, as she does her best to do your will. What artifact do they seek? Is it in our vault? How would we best prepare?"

..Her voice trails for a moment..dropping to a whisper.

"...who are you?

Finally, she will open her scroll on the Serenbeth Sisters that she claimed from Wardds temple earlier that day and read its contents.

DM SteveK The treatise is long and boring and really goes into a lot of detail that seems... superfluous. With the long day and many details, Sesha nearly misses a passage until Pot-Pot nudges her to go back over the paragraph again. And again...
It seems that the Serenbeth Sisters were patrons of many many wants and needs of the Noble Races, and their domains were both many and shared; except that each had a particular domain that was theirs alone. Jancassis was vengeance, Jantierri was foretelling, Karinthis has been lost in time... and Serenbeth was healing. She is the only Sister who could possibly bring the healing domain to one of her priests... or Witches.

A surge of happiness comes across the telepathic link with Pot-Pot. Sesha can finally bring a name to her Outsider Patron!

Restlin grins at Sesha's excitement, genuinely happy that she's so close to what she's looking for. Truth is, he's a bit uneasy. He tries to recall what he knows about the Serenbeth sisters, and whether the other two Flea mentioned would hold the same resentment towards Wardd as Jantierri would (knowledge, religion: 19).

He also reminds himself not to piss her off...sheesh. Still, this is Mhalice we're talking about. If anyone deserves some nightmares, it's her. He is somewhat less convinced than she is that Mhalice is involved, but it's entirely within the realms of possibility.

He wishes Tink a good walk, but warns her not to be disappointed at how few chits those coins will be worth. This is an expensive town.

He's not much of a priest, but he is a priest none-the-less. He gets his head into reverence mode & prays the only way he knows how: irreverent stream-of-consciousness blathering.

Hey Wardd, it's me. Hey, remember that time Jantierri tried to kill you & you got the better of her by joining Marteaus? Good one, btw. Way to get ahead of the goddess of foretelling. Anyway, I walked right into her temple today like a dummy. I think I may have upset her. Oh well, she's dead anyway.

Still, I think Sesha's patron is one of her sisters. Small world, huh? We don't even worship you folks much down here, and I still find myself here. Oh well. Hey, there's going to be something big happening tomorrow. I'm kind of excited to find out what, but worried that a bunch of people may die. If you feel like letting me rub your metaphorical head for good luck, I'd appreciate it...

That goes on for a while. When it's done, he settles in with his spellbook and tries to figure out what to prepare for tomorrow to prevent loss of life should something catastrophic occur.

When Tink gets back, he'll go knocking on her door. "Hey...I know we're kinda newly acquainted and all, but do you think I could borrow your spellbook for a few hours? That long-lasting flight spell may come in handy tomorrow." He brings out his own spellbook; it's a mess. Loose pieces of paper threaten to fall out any moment, the handwriting is just terrible, and there's a coffee cup stain on the cover. Still, Restlin manages to prepare spells just fine from it. "I'd be willing to return the favor, of course. I bet there's something in here you'd find useful!"

OOC: Spells link is in my header

If allowed, he will learn the spell (he cannot fail the spellcraft roll), then copy it into his own book. (I'll make a catacombs transaction to do this if Tink allows it)

Restlin's Knowledge (co-DM SteveK)
Tuesday April 8th, 2014 8:04:20 PM

Wardd had wished for friendship with all his fellow Gods, but he was closest to Karinthis, Donyra and Serenbeth. Imagine his horror when all three were slaughtered mercilessly by Marteaus.

Restlin is confident that he isn't going to be having Serenbeth problems with Sesha.

Bosk asks politely if he might bring some of the food or drug with him. With your vision I do not feel it would be responsible to take any right now, but I would like to try some at a safer time and place. The gods have granted me many blessings, but at times they are also a curse. Those gifts which allow me to see more clearly at the same time can be a distraction. It would be nice to be able to turn them off for awhile so that I could turn my full attention to the gods' will.

Signs and Dreams: what do they mean? Too much Festival food? (co-DM JonathanT)  d20+9=21 ;
Tuesday April 8th, 2014 11:05:52 PM

DM JT OOC: just a quick post for now to deal with Sesha's Nightmare spell:
Interesting, if your read the Nightmare spell, at the very end you see the text that excludes elves. However, neither elf nor drow description states that they don't sleep, as in 3.5. General consensus on the Paizo search for 'do elves sleep' is that this last part of the spell description is an copy error left from 3.5 and that Pathfinder elves do in fact sleep, and so then would the drow.
Normal sleep overcomes elves, but not magical sleep. As the Nightmare is not a magical sleep effect in itself, it then can work on elves. I say this because it is a two-way street. If Mahlice finds out who's doing this, be prepared for some unpleasant backlash. Drow are ruthless in their revenge. :)

Spell Resistance - vs 29
Nightmare Will DC 22

Spell Resistance roll bypasses Mahlice's spell resitance.
Will save vs DC22 = 21

Sesha senses Mahlice's presence and at the appropriate time finalizes her spell and sends visions of spiders and scorpions into Mahlice's dreams. What true effect they have on Mahlice Sesha can't really know, but oh well, that's the way it goes, sometimes.

(Thanks for the scoop, Jon.)

A pleasant night before, er, the day something happens. (co-DM JonathanT)
Wednesday April 9th, 2014 12:07:58 AM

Armed with a wealth of information from the divination from the little priestess of Jancassis, the IA, for the most part, return to the Iron Tower to prepare for the next day, the day that is the center of the Day of Faith in Hook City, where as many citizens that can possibly cram onto the Hook Bridge do so and on the ringing of a bell, jump up and down like jumping beans to test their 'faith' that the Hooks will hold and the bridge won't fall.

The Iron Adventurers leave the tent with different thoughts. Sesha primarily wants to verify the identity of Little Spirit and get some satisfaction against Mahlice.

Bosk wants some of the 'spiced' cakes to take home with him and asks politely for a doggy bag.

Flea looks askance at the minotaur. "Uhmm... these cakes are gifts for those that seek special insights while here in the tent. No one's asked to take any home with them before. They are made fresh everyday. We found out, long ago, that they appear to loose their potency quickly, as any left over today are rather useless tomorrow. But here, take one, if you really want."

Flea hands Bosk a square of the unusual cake.

Garret and Anrete revell in the thought of battle the next day. They don't care who or what they think they might fight and don't even try to imagine who or what. Just the thought of battle is enough.

Garret ends up at the smithy. (DM JT: Refresh my memory_ how long ago was the order put in?)

Restlin goes home and speaks, in his humble way, to Wardd.
With respect to Serenbeth, he receives only good feelings.
(DM JT: see SteveK's answer above.)

With respect to the future events, Restlin gets the impression of some excitement. From the god of thieves, gambling, luck, and chance, this probably means that Wardd does not want to spoil the events of the next day by giving anyone an advantage. Luck and Chance need to be won, or lost, on even terms.

Restlin also asks Katinka for permission to copy spells and share his own. However this will need to wait until another time. His time with Wardd took longer than it seemed and it is late.

Katinka wishes to exchange her metal coin for a chit. She finds out that the divination they just had
cost an equivalent to 500gp, a Red Chit. The cheapest Chit is a White one, given in exchange for 100gp.

DM JT: Katinka can exchange any amount of coin for Chits. See Woldipedia/Geography/Hook City and you'll find the Chit exchange rate. Exchange as much as you have/want for chits and record this on your CS using the Honor System. :)

Otherwise, the night passes by uneventfully.
The Day of Faith dawns with some low fog, but that's not unusual, and it dissipates quickly as the sun burns it away. The IA start their preparations for this special day as they feel the anticpation ebbing in the streets. This is their first Day of Faith and they see Hook City like they've never seen before.

DM JT: just note what preparations you will be making. The Jump takes place around 11am and if all goes well, partying in the streets until dawn. Think one big Mardi Gras party all over Hook City.

OOC: I was going to delay my response until Tink had a moment to reply to me, but I'll go on the assumption that she'd share her knowledge with me. If I'm wrong, I'll edit this...

Restlin wakes up at his desk. He lifts his head from his spellbook, a stray note stuck to his forehead. He looks down and frowns at the incomplete copy of the spell in his own book.

"Well, looks like I won't be needing overland flight today!" he quips before getting up to start the day. He pulls out his good robe, the one that never gets dirty, and tucks his long, black hair into his oversized knit "thinking cap." A quick look in the mirror to confirm that he still looks like Restlin, and downstairs he goes. He already knew his spells for the day. It was too likely that spells like fear & confusion wouldn't fare well in the bridge crowd, so he had to rein it in a bit.

He walks into the kitchen & sees who prepared breakfast that morning. He pats the seat next to him when Sesha heads down, glad he figured out her patron spirit won't likely be trying to kill him anytime soon.

After a light breakfast (to save room for some terrible festival food-on-a-stick), he sees if everyone's ready to go yet.

"Maybe nothing bad will happen and we'll just go out and have a great time today. Barring cataclysmic events, festival days are the best!"

Sesha [AC 20 /15 Touch/19 Flat] | HP 168/84 | CMD 19][See Invisibility]
Wednesday April 9th, 2014 9:20:34 PM

Waking up in a lighter mood than usual, even for her, Sesha rolls out of her furs with some pep in her step. She slips on her light mithril shirt and the rest of her gear. Humming sweetly to herself she collects her Broom, Pot Pot and her spell components and weapons before stopping by the garden and plucking a single flower, which she places in her hair. She would need something more sturdy made later. How lucky she was to have such a pretty thing for a holy symbol!

She happily hands Restlin her scroll from Wards temple.

"You can return this, Mage-Priest. I won't be needing it anymore!"

She wolfs down some food, making sure to take some of anything made by both Bosk and Anrete.

As everyone gathers, she stands up.

"Serenbeth!" she blurts out. "Serenbeth and Little Spirit are the same. I've read as much about her as I could last night and she's really great. Her whole divine purpose was to help people get the things in like that made them happy! Marriage.. health.. healing.. .. those things were all really important to her. She was kindve a patron for the young. I guess she would want the same out of her Witches. As soon as this whole affair with the jump is over I plan on trying to offer some kind of services in her name if I can get the approval from Hook City. Maybe not religious rites, because I haven't quite figured out how dead she is. Maybe something with an Orphanage if we know someone?"

She prattles on about her new best friend for a bit, until someone interrupts with more serious conversation.

Beriothian already has a pot of coffee percolating on the fire and is pouring a little maple syrup on a bowl of oatmeal as the others start to wake up.
Good morning everyone. I wanted to discuss our strategy for today before meditating and preparing my body and mind for this afternoons events. Some of my favorite spells I'm hesitant to use because of the crowds we will experience, I can just picture thousands of citizens caught up in spike stones.

Do we want to work off of the assumption that we will be rescuing people as the fall off the bridge? That will be numerous threats to deal with? What ever the situation, it's a safe bet that the citizens will be in danger in one way or another.
