OOC: Thanks, Ezra, for the clarifications. I was thinking that Nikolai would recognize the source as William, but it sounded like there was another hidden shooting behind him. :}
What I'm going to try to do may be a little complicated. If I roll high enough, cool, otherwise, it won't matter. :)
IC: Nikolai only has fleeting thoughts about the man he just knocked out. 'I wonder if dad ever had one of those times where everything he tried to keep the peace failed?'
"Who you calling 'bastards'? Nikolai shoots back at the slumped man. Carver then comes charging around from behind and pokes his the pint of his lance into the window.
OOC: DM, how high are the windowsills? I presume there's no glass as the man inside threw a dart at Nikolai. If there is glass, then there was, as Carver just poked his pint into it.
IC: Nikolai things this is a good time to stay on the offensive. If the man inside is busy with Carver, then maybe he has a chance to get in. He dashes towards the window where H6 is dodging Carver's lance and tries to jump through it,
OOC: Vertical Jump DC is +4 per 1 foot of height (with at least 10' running start). If the window sill is 5' high, then the DC is 20.
IC: Acrobatics +10 = 12. This only clears 3 feet so,,,
If the window sill is 3' or less, Nikolai lands inside. Since he can't occupy the same space as H6, here's a roll to see which adjacent square he lands in: d10=3, or J14.
If the window sill is more thanm 3', he does not make it inside and ends up at L16. In which case he'll ask Carver to help him through next round.

Additionally, I'm accident prone at times and tend to save over things that I shouldn't, so the less stuff to have go wrong. I prefer posting updates in Spoilers in my PC post but that has been said to 'clutter' boards. Anyway, I'll post spells and effects in game to maintain sanity for both of us. ;)
My SacBond and Aid Another effects that I've mentioned are Domain Granted powers and have six uses per day. And if Linden can get to Bliss, he will use another power, Rebuke Death. As to what Linden was doing, he was using his Aid Another power to boost Pru's AC +4, and said as much in my post. Aiding Another doesn't require a damage roll. I just have to hit AC 10 against a particular opponent, and as there was only one on Pru at that moment, I didn't figure I needed to state who the target was... but now, I suppose Linden must be able to SEE his target. :))

Decrepit Old Church (DM Ezra) Thursday March 20th, 2014 12:56:12 PM
Round 1: Bliss casts a spell, and Cameron had continued to move forward beyond a point that the churchmen had designated as their line of engagement, these actions happened at the same time and they initiated hostile actions. Bliss is hit by a readied action, Carver is hit by a spell. William casts a spell. Round 2: Cameron is enchanted, H3 casts a defensive spell, H4 cast invisibility. Carver kills one of the churchmen, Bliss casts another spell, William's eagle is summoned and attacks a churchman. Round 3: H2 attacks Carver. Prudence has a knife to her throat. Nikolai attempts a grapple. Carver is attacked again. Nikolai fails another grapple attempt. Round 4: H2 attacks Nikolai, Carver is hit by another magic missile. William fires at H2. Linden casts detect evil. Nikolai fails another grapple. Carver attacks H2. Rufford tries to drink a potion, and it is knocked from his hand by an AoO. Round 5: A churchman misses William and Nikolai. H4 casts a spell on Tinker. H2 attacks Carver and misses Nikolai. A churchman mortally attacks Bliss. The enchanted Cameron is asked to surrender. Nikolai takes out H2. Tinker rushes the church door. Round 6: H4 attacks Linden, becoming visible. Pru had a readied attack and hits a mirror image. Three churchmen inside the church attack Tinker in the door.
At this point, the Fist is performing their round six actions. While I am willing to make amends when I make a mistake after posting a round recap. I'm less inclined to do that if a player changes their mind several hours after the round is posted.
This encounter is highlighting a lot of differences between the DM style the players were accustomed to and my own. At the same time, I am becoming accustomed to the play style of this group of players. I understand that the majority of this group is seasoned, experienced players.

Tinker is surprised there are three opponents in the doorway, he was thinking there were none and he could get the wizard! Disappointment turns to pain as three different attacks strike him hard. The dwarf realizes that three-on-one is only going to have one outcome... and then Cameron is in front of him, making it that much harder to go down swinging!
'Maybe you can put this to your advantage, Daemar', Tinker thinks quickly, and moves in a defensive series to keep as much of Cameron between Tinker and the three opponents. 'Maybe if Cameron is attacked, he will wake up from this nightmare.'
Out loud, Tinker has another tactic. "You may win and turn us all into zombies, but the Mailed Fist will avenge us and stop your evil deeds!" ...................

Bliss stabilizes. His blood is no longer dripping off the roof. He had quite a bit for such a small creature.
Linden tries to mule kick H4, and misses with both.
Prudence shifts around Linden and fires another elemental ray, unfortunately, it also strikes illusion.
William, realizing that simple headstones only give some cover from in front or behind, and not as much from the side, or above, summons another eagle. H6 will have cover from L16.
Carver uses his 3rd lay on hands on himself, leaving him down by 3. He then rushes back along the side of the church and blindly stabs his lance through a window.I'm ruling 'no' on charging the window from the side with a lance, this drops your attack to a +5, and reduces the damage by half. "If you don't have line of sight to the opponent at the start of your turn, you can't charge that opponent."
Cameron realizes he would never surrender as suggested by his "old friend" rushes forward to try and shield Tinker, he gets there in time to see Tinker sliced, and diced.
Nikolai decides to try some parkour. He probably realizes he needs to practice more, as he somersaults over Carver's back, only to face plant the wall of the church. He slides down the wall and crumbles to the ground. (Prone for missing by more than 4. Your giving me conniptions! While you can move through an allies square, I'm gonna call running through a large creature as not possible (unless your are 3x smaller). That doesn't address the lance sticking through the window. And the window is higher than 3', they do give cover.
Linden realizes he still hasn't detected any evil while he contemplates how a centaur can climb onto a roof to assist Bliss.
Tinker steps back behind Cameron (V11) and chooses to consider a more defensive approach.
And thus ends turn #6!
On to turn #7 H5 scratches his head with a dagger, mailed fist? Call us zombies? you're the ones bragging about sending body parts through the post! He takes a readied stance, both weapons held at the ready.
H6 shrieks like a girl when the lance bursts through the window opening, and he jumps when Nikolai bounces off the side of the building. He casts a spell through the window. Carver and Nikolai both find a rainbow of colors wash over them (will save DC 14, failure is unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 6 rounds). H6 then sidesteps next to the window.
H7 smiles at Cameron and sets her crossbow down, oh my dear friend, why do your allies vex us so? They really should listen to you. Won't you protect us?If Cameron would not typically try to protect someone asking for help, he may attempt an opposed Cha roll, DC 14. She addresses Tinker, you have been sorely wounded, why don't you come in and lay down, let us take care of those wounds for you. Tinker should make a will save DC 13 vs charm. (since he is not threatened nor attacked this round, the bonus doesn't apply.)
Meanwhile, outside, H4 channels energy, wracking Linden and Prudence with a sickening wave. Will save for half of 2 damage, DC 12. Well that was wimpy, maybe Pantheon wishes you idiots to live after all. Surrender!

Tinker stares at the audacity of the woman and then shakes his head; his friend makes a lot of sense! For a moment, he fights to think why this person (no, Tinker can't even come up with her name!) is one of his best friends, as good as Cameron or even Prudence.
The moment passes. Prudence would also want him to lay down and let her care for his wounds. And with the entrance of the church blocking his sight of any other Fist in trouble, the need for fighting is over. The Urgosh is unbloodied, so Tinker sheathes his weapon. "Yes, that sounds like a good idea. I'll need some bindings or Linden's healing touch. Thanks, Bean Pole."

LOL! :)
Well, you got my intentions correct. I didn't have enough information about the window and didn't have time to wait for it. I figured that if I rolled high enough, it would work, if not, it wouldn't matter. It was a gamble the desperate take and hoped you'd understand what I was trying to do. You did.
IC: When Nikolai takes off towards the window, the sees that he needs to vault over Carver and tumble though a narrow window past a foe. A difficult task best of times, a bleeding wound nagging him this particular time. But Carver's sweaty hindquarters was not in his initial mathematical equation of speed, combined with force versus gravity, lift, air resistance, ground grip, correct vector, and of course, a lot of luck. Any one of those miscalculated variables would cause him to miss, but when all of them fall outside of the narrow variance allowed by the laws of physics unhindered by magic, there can only be one result at the end of the '=' sign of that equation. That is 'Splat'!
Being prone is not so bad, he thinks, but then a rainbow of colors wash over him. Will save DC 14 (failure is unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 6 rounds): d20+7 = 24, saved
Being prone was not so bad at all! Down on the ground and up against the church wall, most of the colors wash over him and with his face already eating sacred dirt, it was easy to close his eyes and cover his head and avoid the effects of the spell.
Looking back up to see how Carver fared, he sees William call his budy eagle back to him and dismiss him.
'What's going on here! We are the Fist! We don't surrender over trivial flesh wounds!'

Linden comments on harming noble races. H4 responds ye prefess t' worship Flower, god of love, and yer companions done killed my companion, wi' ou' provocasion!
Tinker realizes that getting healed is probably a good idea and lays down in the church.
Prudence considers if this man could really worship Pantheon, and realizes she's heard or seen nothing to contradict that statement, based on earlier conversation, he does appear to be quite knowledgeable in several religions. Come to think of it, she's heard of those that can take justice to such an extreme that many would consider the act evil, and yet they still wear the cloth of Pantheon. This doesn't stop her from shifting her position to attack him again. Another of his illusory doubles disappears. Flanking on corners is tricky, a reach weapon can't hit the corner square adjacent, and the second corner square is too far (5' for the first, 10' for the second, total 15'). Prudence can flank from AB28 or AC27 against Linden's current position.
Cameron asks his old friend to assist Bliss.[/b] She smiles and responds, yes! that's a good idea, I'll go out and talk to Rufford. You should stay here with your friend, he needs healing.Opposed Charisma DC 21
Nikolai takes a moment to consider his position before standing and readying himself to grab any appendage that sticks out the window. He can hear the conversation between Cameron and H7.
Carver blindly thrusts his lance through the next window, missing the sorceress and Cameron. He shouts a warning to Linden and Pru.
Eddie appears (in K16) and strikes at H6 through the window frame damage should only be a d4+2 for the talons, some shrieking from inside indicates that Eddie got a bite out of someone (H6). Eddie needs to make a DC 15 fly check to maintain his hover.
William reloads his crossbow and fires an acid dart at H6, unfortunately, attempting to avoid Eddie results in the dart striking the side of the window frame. you had a -4 for firing into melee

Carver tries another window and Eddie the Eagle swoops in and claws at the mage inside. Nikolai hears Cameron talking to someone inside and it is all a puzzle. It is like two opposing worlds that share a common border and one can see into the other. In one world, he and some of his friends are fighting a vicious battle and in the other world his other friends are exchanging a casual conversation with other members of the same enemy. 'Is this some mass illusion?' he wonders, but Eddie takes a magic missile in the chest and Nikolai concludes 'That was no illusion!'.
Nikolai thus grabs ahold of the windowsill and Climbs through the window (Move Action) Climb Check +6 = 19 OOC: DM, I still don't know how high the windowsill is.
This puts Nikolai at K15.
Now, facing the mage, Nikolai puts a boot into his stomach (Attack Action).
Using Stunning Foot +3 = 23! Crit conf roll = 19 DMG = 5 or 11 if crit confirms. Stunning Fist: Save Fort DC14, Fail = Stunned for 1 Rd. Stunned: drops everything held, can't take actions, takes -2 to AC, looses Dex bonus to AC if any.
And: Spells in effect: Mage Armor Stunning Fist 1/2
DM Ezra: Standard lower story climb check is DC 15, pulling yourself when dangling by your fingertips. Window edge is 6' up on the outside. Window is difficult terrain to move through it. There is an eagle in k15, you will have to move to j15 or l15 to attack. This will provoke an AoO. Next will be asking to use acrobatics to avoid the AoO. Since you are already at 1/4 speed from climbing through the window, and acrobatics drops you to half speed, you would need to use a double move to do both.

Ooc - dm, no, Eddies roll for the talon is correct as he is augmented by one of my feats and so does extra dmg so Please add back the dmg you reduced it by. Also the acid dart is NOT fired from a xbow, as it is an ability and a ranged touch attack . Please see my pc sheet for more info
DM Ezra: augment summoning is only an additional +2, where is the other +1 coming from? Your post stated you were loading your crossbow. Your post also said you were firing an acid dart. acid dart is ranged touch. Which still gets a -4 penalty for firing into melee without precise shot.

The cleric gives an apologetic look to Prudence (and a glance toward anyone else looking) and breaks into to a full gallop, back towards where they came from (away from the church, the Fist and the anti-group). He's going for help. The cleric is going to serve if its the last thing he does. And serving as a zombie is not his idea of serving. He doesn't trust these churchers and it's hard to know who of his Fist he can trust now.

Recap #8 Cameron heals Tinker. this was already accounted for in the current hp post.
Prudence cries out as the wave of negative energy washes over her, but the pain quickly leaves her feeling unhurt from Linden's sacrificial bond. She fires another elemental ray, striking a third illusion. How many will it take to scratch this guy? I'll go with if you knew what the spell was, you would have been able to know how many images appeared.
POST PAUSED!!!
Post Continued:
Nikolai adroitly climbs the wall, drops through, and drop kicks the young mage. Nikolai pulls his foot from the kid's crushed chest.
Linden takes the full brunt of the wave of negative energy, and absorbs the energy from Prudence. Deciding this engagement was more than expected, he turns tail, literally, and high tails it, pun intended. He is down a total of 3 from the first blade attack, 2 from the first channel, 12 from this channel, and 6 via sacrificial bond for a total of 23, leaving him with 1 HP.
Carver falls victim to the charm spell and reconsiders his aggressive actions.
Tinker and Bliss don't have much to say a this point, though Tinker was only asked to lay down, not keep quiet.
William remains crouching next to a headstone and his eagle attempts to hover in k16 fly check please.
H7 cries out at Cameron and Tinker, Look! He killed a child! This is a friend of yours? Maybe he's a zombie! She backs away towards the door.
H5 steps forward guarding the sorceress, his weapons held ready.
Rufford (H1) takes a step forward and looks down, his crossbow is also held at the ready.
H4 frowns at Prudence, lass, ye seem t' be a goodun, yer friends are running or have laid down arms. Be sensible, I wish not to keep hurting ye. He steps forward, Prudence can tell that he also is watching her and waiting.

DM: Your map shows the eagle at K16, not K15, remember, H6 was at K15 when the eagle attacked. H6 took a step back to fire a MM at the eagle. SO there is nothing at K15 when Nikolai goes through the window.
Eddie appears (in K16) and strikes at H6 through the window frame damage should only be a d4+2 for the talons, some shrieking from inside indicates that Eddie got a bite out of someone (H6). Eddie needs to make a DC 15 fly check to maintain his hover.
and
H6 takes a step back and fires a magic missile at Eddie, four points damage.
If this is wrong then please correct the map. The Map and what you say is all we have to go on.
As is, I must insist on my actions and position at K15 remain as is. And the Map still has Eddie at K16. Furthermore, to argue my case even more, the DC should be 10: A surface with legdes to hold on to and stand on.... describes a windowsill perfectly.
And: At 6' high, at 1/4 speed, would be 24' Move, well within my 30' Move. So I still have a Standard Action left.
Your argument that going through the window is Difficult Terrain: Well, Climbing the wall is technically Difficult Terrain and the wall and sill are the same square and do not add the penalties, you take the worst penatly, ie, 1/4 speed.
If two penalties apply to the same square, you take the worst penalty.
If none of that makes sense then Nikolai will expend a Hero point for an extra action and from K15.
You can't put Eddie in K15, that was where H6 was before he stepped back to fire his MM. If you want Eddie in K15, then something magical must happen to make him move into K15 after H6 stepped back.
Please respond, as I need to know what to do next.
DM Ezra: I apparently misread a post, having thought I saw one that said the eagle moved into the church and continued to attack before your posted action. As I can't locate what I was looking at, you will be able to move in through the window per the first part of my ruling on moving through the window. I based the climb check first on 1st floor wall, DC 20, then saw "pulling yourself up when dangling by your hands, DC 15."

DM Ezra: She may have been distracted when Nikolai jumped through a window and killed her student with a foot 'through' the chest. Just sayin. There are beams along the walls that could be climbed, the roof has some exposed beams that are 20' overhead. Above the entry there is a shaft under the steeple. From below, it's obvious that the partially collapsed steeple has caved into the shaft. It's too far to tell from down here, but it might be possible to wiggle through. That climb check won't get you very far up on the inside.

OOC: Thanks, Ezra, for your understanding and sorry there was a mis-understanding. My 'argument' may have sounded a little tart but I had a very lousy day at work and was just worn out mentally.
BTW, the map needs updating. At last view, Nikolai was still outside. No biggy.
IC: Nikolai is quite surprized at the force of his kick and in some way is sorry to see the mage crumble. But in his mind, this was a fight against probable zombie makers. If ever there was a doubt about that, the yell from the door confirmed this, in Nikolai's mind. H7 cries out at Cameron and Tinker, "Look! He killed a child! This is a friend of yours? Maybe he's a zombie! She backs away towards the door.
"Cameron! Tinker! You know my fighting and you how zombies fight and it is obvious I'm not a zombie. Besides, zombies don't argue back!" he yells.
Nikolai, unknowing that his friends are charmed, continues.
"It is these guys who are making the zombies! They are killing Pru, Carver, Linden, William, and Bliss! Look at me? I'm bloody all over too! They are trying to kill ME! And look at TINKER! They've already started the zombie process on HIM!"
He says all this while moving to N15 so William can see him through the window. He also draws a shuriken (free draw weapon w/move if BAB+1 or more) with one hand from his shuriken bandoler strapped across his chest and with the other hand he retrieves a small black stone from a belt pouch.
OOC: That's two Moves
From Nikolai's perspective, that's not all that far from the truth. He knows they have the book and they've all suspected that the book is being used to create the undead. Tinker is lying down looking peaceful, like in a zombie trance. Nikolai does not have the time to sit down and have philosophical conversations with them about how evil that is! All he knows is that they tried to speak peacefully and inquire about zombies in the neighborhood and they were beligerent, rude, and attacked first.

Tinker hears sounds of battle and springs up to aid his companions, Fist and H7 both. The dwarf looks at the sprightly Nikolai and shakes his head. "If he's a zombie, then I'm an elf", he grumbles, distressed that his old friends are hurting his new friend's friends. Erg. That kind of thinking is enough to give Prudence a headache!
"Look!, the dwarf bellows in the old church, and thinking of what the Sergeants would do if there were fighting in the barracks. "Everyone needs to settle down, or I'm gonna start cracking heads until you ALL see sense!" Tinker pulls his Sap and Dagger out and looks for the closest person who is fighting.
That just happens to be Nikolai because H5 is guarding, not fighting, and H7 isn't fighting either.
"Nikolai, if you won't listen to reason, I'll beat it into you!", Tinker roars trying to sound like Sergeant Helmsbane, and throws his dagger at his friend! With a particular flick of his wrist, Tinker manages for the dagger's handle to flash towards the monk and not the blade! ........................

Puzzled that his own Fist would throw a weapon at him, he tries to put two and two together. Wisdom Check +3 = 11
Common Sense, Awareness, and Intuition try to congeal in Nikolai's mind to piece the puzzle before him together.

OOC: Friday post. Will try again in the evening...
Tinker patiently waits for more healing. He seems quite comfortable on the floor in the church.
Cameron heads for one of the beams holding the roof up and starts trying different handholds and footholds, after a few seconds, he finds himself several inches off the ground.
Carver runs between Prudence and H4, attempting a peaceful resolution.
William fires an acid dart at the unconscious H2 that is slumped over a gravestone. The acid quickly chews through the man's back, dissolving the bones of his spine. He is now quite dead.
Nikolai pulls his bloody foot from the chest of the young magician and attempts to explain the blood as proof that the church group is making zombies. Of course those in the church saw the blood spray out as Nikolai attacked.
Tinker doesn't believe Nikolai's argument and jumps up to defend someone. He throws a dagger in the general direction of Nikolai.
Nikolai suggests the besieged church group disarm themselves.
Bliss sleeps.
Linden continues to retreat.
Nikolai suggests that Tinker bluff the church group with a suggestion that the Fist is scouting for a larger party.

OOC: Just to clarify
Nikolai pulls his bloody foot from the chest of the young magician and attempts to explain the blood as proof that the church group is making zombies. Of course those in the church saw the blood spray out as Nikolai attacked.
Nikolai was referring to the stab wound that he received outside that is bleeding through his clothes, not the blood on his foot. :)
Also, he did not request that they disarm themselves: "You, Lady at the Door! You two, if you are really serious that you do not want to fight, then call off the others and put your weapons away."
'Put weapons away' was specifically worded to mean NOT disarm, but PUT them away. Nikolai did not want them to think they should surrender, but basically was calling for a Truce.
Please take this into consideration. Thanks. :)

William addresses H4, "As my friends said, you attacked first and the deaths are your fault, not ours. If you don't like how we finish off a potential enemy, then you should have talked to us rather than tried to kill us." H4 looks at the body of Bliss, and the bodies of his two men, turning to Prudence and Carver he asks Yer wizard right in the head? 'e seems to not be tracking the body count well.
Cameron realizes the hostilities seem to be dying down, the two remaining in the church have resumed a defensive stance near the door. Cameron calls out about Bliss' condition on the roof.
Rufford checks on Bliss and yells out I think he's dead. You can have the body. He pulls out a rope and quickly ties a loop into it. After lowering Bliss down, respectful of the body, he retreats to the back side of the roof and soon comes around the side of the church, on the ground. He let's the others enter the church before him. Once inside, he takes up station near one of the windows, looking out the north side of the church. heal check=4
Carver works to diffuse the situation between Prudence and H4. And though Prudence is the one throwing ranged attacks, he holds his shield towards H4.
Tinker goes hunting for the dagger he threw across the church. On the other side of the church he finds the dagger laying next to a large satchel. The bag was hastily pushed under a bench.
Nikolai sees that H4 and Selyana are not advancing, but maintaining a guarded stance. He stops to check on the young mage. The large, foot sized cavity in the kid's chest is pretty indicative of major internal trauma, crushed ribs, collapsed lungs, punctured organs, multiple arterial ruptures, relaxed sphincters.
Selyana nudges H4, go look at Samsilk. I doubt there's anything you can do, but... She then turns to Cameron, I'm concerned that killer may still have ill intent, assist my friend Arjiksen, please. The killer she is referring to is Nikolai.
Tinker receives a lay on hands for 5 pt, Bliss for 4 pts.

Had you been the victor and killed us, or most of us, you'd not think twice about our dead and claim victory and celebrate. So don't pretent to be all sanctimonious. It won't work. It was unfortunate the fog concealed our approach, but surely, for however long you have been here, you know that early morning fog is normal, so it was not our intent to sneak up on you. And if you'd been fending off zombies and ghouls for the past two days like us, you'd be weary of strangers too."
He looks over at Samsilks covered body. "It is regretable. So young and inexperienced. Had I the power to heal, I would do so for Samsilk."
The others enter and Pru and William join Nikokai. Bliss is healed and seems his usual self.
"Justice Yelsid, it seems clear you do not realize we all wear a uniform. Not that that would mean all that much but for the emblem of the Mailed Fist on them. Only a couple days from here is a major Mailed Fist training complex, one of several dozen. I don't say that to attempt to intimidate you, but it seems clear you are new to these parts, otherwise you would have known of the Mailed Fist and this unfortunate series of events could have been avoided. If you've not seen any undead in these parts, then that means their focus must be on the village and whoever is controlling them does not know you are here or does not care."
Nikolai ignores the comment that 'several' of them are old friends of Selyana. The Double Fist came from all part of the Wold and it does not make sense that those mentioned would by happenstance know the same person.

Prudence declines the offer of a seat next to Yelsid. She shares who they are and their reason for being in the area.
WilliamH4 IS Yelsid insults Yelsid, decides that makes everything even, and offers to wipe the slate clean. Selyana shakes her head, No! Your companion owes a blood debt for Samsilk. Yelsid sighs, killing wounded on the field of battle is generally not accepted by the rules of engagement as noted in the treaty of Windhorn, and signed by most of the countries of Elenna, and many organizations, including the Justices of Pantheon. I must insist that recompense be provided for the needless death of Shegal. His Order is known to take a strict stance on righting wrongs. We loose a few to Jancassis every year when that stance crosses a very thin line from serving justice to serving vengeance. And this situation is ripe to cause another schism.
Cameron confirms that the three bodies are indeed dead bodies.
Nikolai accuses the Pantheon's of being killers. Selyana takes a measured look around, her gaze falling on the bodies of her companions. She turns an icy stare to Nikolai who did we kill? Which of you lies dead at our feet? Preach not to me! We asked you your intentions, we asked you to stop, we held back! With one hand you offered peace, while the other raised a weapon! How dare you lay this at OUR feet!
Nikolai explains the nature of their uniforms and the Mailed Fist. Selyana, obviously hot under the collar speaks before Yelsid, Veiled Fist is more like it! Your 'boy's club' is nothing more than a bunch of hooligans and killers hiding behind a veil of self-perpetuated visions of grandeur!
Yelsid stands and walks to Selyana, placing a hand on her shoulder, yer opportunity to set this right is quickly deteriorating. Again.
Carver thinks back as his mind fills the gaps of how he must have known Selyana in the past.
Linden continues to run. It took half a day to walk here, this is too far to run. Hustling will take 3 hours and Linden will take 3 points of nonlethal for his exercise.
Tinker finds a bag and drops it in front of everyone as he asks about the book they were hired to recover. Tinker is the only one to introduce himself by name, from the Mailed Fist. Yelsid looks at Tinker's foot, I wouldn't do that if I were you...
Tinker's foot starts to vibrate, starting with his foot. The vibrations quickly move up his leg. The bag itself is motionless. Tinker's entire leg seems to be trying to do a jiggle. Tinker is forcefully thrown across the room, blasting through a row of pews, breaking them in half as he slams into the far wall.
The bag starts to smolder and smoke. The individual threads glow ruby red and quickly consume the bag, leaving ashes behind. Within a large leather covered book lifts into the air. The ashes of the bag are sucked into the book as it floats to a point three feet off the ground. Sickly green light bursts from silver runes inlaid across the book covering. Several silver clasps audibly click as they snap open, one by one along the edge of the book.
As the last of six clamps snaps open, the book flips open. The pages flip rapidly to a page near the center. A swirling mass of light, the same sickly green, intertwined with a deep purple that clashes painfully with an orange reminiscent of burning flesh. Curling through and around the clock-wise spinning light are cords of black light. It defies reason as it shines like light, but seems to suck color into it as it twirls and spins up through the column of light.
Thick grey fog spills out of the edges of the book as it slowly spins in a circle counter-clockwise. The fog smells of rotting refuse asit slowly spins about the room. The fog flows through any material except the flesh of those living. It seems to pile up and swirl about each person, flowing through their clothes, weapons, even their hair. The swirling fog is spinning in alternating directions. Each band of fog encasing one of the people staring at the site before them.
Above the book, the cone of swirling lights blast a hole through the ceiling of the church, taking almost the entire roof off as the beam pierces into the sky.
Below, in the church, loose unattended objects begin to slide towards the bottom of the book. Pews, broken boards, backpacks, a discarded potion bottle, three bodies. As each object slides under the book, ruby red streaks quickly consume the object, turning it to dust that is sucked into the pages of the book. As more objects are sucked into the book, the greyish fog transforms, each layer coalescing, thickening, appearing to increase in solidity, and yet they continue to flow through most everything. It's quickly apparent that the fog is flowing outside the church, swirling through the walls.
A deep bass rumble blasts from the book. It flows through each person, thumping through their chest and echoing in their lungs. A visible wave of energy carries across the air with the thump.
The phenomena seems like it has been minutes since it started, but in reality only a single second has passed, time seeming to have slowed.
Another deep bass rumble blasts from the books, deeper than the last, reverberating along your bones and rattling the foundations of your teeth. All loose objects have since been pulled into the book.
The walls of the church curl and bend as if made from putty. A crackling and crunching sound precedes the remains of the church steeple as it is sucked down the shaft in the ceiling. The debris flies across the room, flying through Rufford as if he were ethereal, only to be sucked into the book like the rest of the debris. Soon loose rocks and branches, pieces of headstones and other debris begins to skitter across the floor, pulled through the walls from outside.
Two seconds have passed.
The floorboards of the church begin to crack and splinter as they are pulled into the vortex under the book. With a resounding CRACK, the walls of the church suddenly buckle as if crushed in a giant fist. The debris flashes through and past each of the Pantheons and Fist members. Looking about, the thick pulsing grey fog stretches to the horizon, uprooting trees, boulders and even the ground.
Four seconds have passed.
The cone of light shooting into the sky draws back towards the book. At the same time, the fog retreats, sucked back into the book except for a spinning, twirling mass of foggy tentacles seemingly supporting the book. Fifty feet into the air, it stops and flows like a liquid poured over a stone. The light spreads to fill an area fifty feet in diameter. The black light spreads, slowly absorbing all the other colors, sucking in color from everywhere, leaving the clothes and landscape bathed in pale greyish colors. The black like soon fills the sphere.
Lightning crackles from the center of the sphere, dancing out to the edges of the sphere. Fingers of lightning lance out to each of the Pantheon and Fist, sparking painlessly across their bodies, burning and scorching their clothing and gear. Each is left standing with out any covering. A line spreads across the sphere, bisecting the center. It slowly opens and the black light retreats up and down from the growing crack across the center of the sphere. A pale yellow orb, the color of a jaundiced child, is revealed beneath the crack.
Thirty feet of yellow orb is revealed, red lines tracing across and through the orb. As the orb spins, a spot of purple is seen momentarily. The spinning orb settles with the purple spot directly towards Yelsid. The orb darts about as the purple spot settles on each of the naked people before the book. The black light quickly encompasses the orb and bounces back, blinking as the eye stares at you.
The eye draws back, and back, and back. Where the eye was is a void. In the deep distance of the void the twinkle of stars and nebula are visible, though much is occluded by a large dark object.
As your eyes adjust to the light, a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind.
One of those large clawed limbs slowly reaches forth, coming through the portal of the void to grab a fear-frozen individual. Pulling back, the individual is shoved towards the creature's head where many tentacles swirl about before engulfing the person and drawing them into a prodigious mouth, their scream soundless in the vacuum.
The clawed limb reaches forward again...

OOC: ...Nikolai accuses the Pantheon's of being killers.... this Selyana sure has a memory totally engulfed in herself... oh, what the heck... :}
IC: "Preach?" Nikolai burst out! He opens his uniform and shows the hypocrite the stab wound from Shegal. "I'll Preach to you you Uppity High and Mighty Sanctimonious Panty-in-a-Wad Hypocrite! You-who-do-no-Wrong! Just as YOU may have been holding back, SO were most of us! Until that dolt stabbed me, I just wanted to pin him! I'm an expert in wrestling and my goal was to just PIN him. THIS IS WHAT I GOT for trying to be GOOD!
Why you Blithering Ignorant Self-indulgent... Didn't Pru put down her spear to show our willingness to talk? Didn't our Centaur Linden put away his weapon and lower his shield? Did our Little Bliss ever touch a hair on Rufford, the whole time he was being skewered!"
Nikolai shouts out to Bliss "BLISS! Next time BLAST him first, THEN be nice and friendly when he's unconscious!"
The monk turns back to Selyana "Aye, you held back. And Sir Yelsid did to. But we also tried. We know we hit hard but that's our training. And don't pretend you never heard of the Mailed Fist either. Someone, one of you, have heard of us, even if wrongly, for we heard someone inside here say 'Mailed Fist? They're mercenaries! Paid fighters!' which is exactly what we are. Unfortunately your little group has someone rife with prejudice and ignorance, which, I give, may not be entirely their fault. But the Mailed Fist ventures far and wide, with entire armies and sometimes with small scouting groups. We are paid to protect caravans, whole cities, or small villages, or, as in this case, locate what was reported to be a stolen magical book. We know nothing of its properties or the circumstances of it dissapearance. But you were of no help in clearing up the matter either!
And DON"T EVEN PRETEND you'd not be overly cautious if you had been battling waves of undead the past few days, seeing villagers ripped apart, guts spewing out, by dead members of their own village! What nerve you have... that same village you stayed in several months ago, now besieged by undead, and you here, untouched, unbothered by it all! Should we NOT be suspicious?"
Nikolai has never been so angry in his life! The nerve of that 'witch', not the sorceress kind.
----------------- pause - interlude - others speak/reply - etc. then:
Nikolai fights his nerves to remain in control of his actions and not panic when the book does its 'thing'. When someone gets sucked in and swallowed, he manages to finally go into action. Nikolai assesses the situation as one greater than they can deal with at the moment. With William turning tail and running, Nikolai pushes Pru for her to follow, then moves to grab Selyana.
"Get the heck out of here! Follow me!" and also takes off, hopefully with her following.
OOC: DM, your description mentions that we were naked. Was that just a perception or did all our gear and clothes and cloaks and magical stuff get all 'vanished'? And, not that it matters all that much, who DID get sucked in?

Tinker finds a bag and drops it in front of everyone as he asks about the book they were hired to recover. Tinker is the only one to introduce himself by name, from the Mailed Fist. Yelsid looks at Tinker's foot, I wouldn't do that if I were you...
Yelsid pauses, I just had the weirdest dream flash before me.

Something else occurs to her. "And none of you guys told Selyana you were joining the Mailed Fist? And--we've been in training for the past three years. Nobody wrote to her? And she didn't try to write to you?"
[OOC: Tinker is not the only one who introduced himself. Several of us introduced ourselves before the fighting started. Bliss introduced himself twice. Given this group's pathological inability to believe anything we say, they may have just assumed they were fake names. But we did give them.]

Staring at Selyana, wondering if that naked body he visioned was truly hers or perhaps a wish on his part, he relaxes. It could be that the church was abandoned because of a curse that feeds off of anger and tension and the vision was that same dark magic at work again.
He glares at Cameron and responds, calmly and matter-of-factly, "I wasn't jumping up and down. I merely was pointing out that we already accepted our part of the blame, but Selyana wasn't accepting their part in it. The only way we can make ammends and put this behind us is if we both accept our part in it."

Cameron casts detect magic. We done already tried that, explains Selyana. The locks are mechanical and magical. There's some strong evocation and conjuration in there as well. I refuse to open the book in the field.
Yelsid adds the symbols on the outside of the book are an archaic form of Draconic. Power, strength, life, and so on. It's interesting how some of them have been combined, we couldn't figure out if there was a meaning to that or not.
Bliss realizes that a body is missing. Casting deathwatch, Bliss is unable to locate an undead creature inside the church.
Tinker finds himself confused for a moment on the number of dead bodies, there was the first one, that Carver shoved a lance through. The one that Nikolai put his boot through, and the one that William tried to dissolve with acid.
From what William recalls of his studies, Yelsid's claims about the book make sense (William's rolls were not quite sufficient to learn anything beyond that, especially without touching the book).
Prudence casts detect magic and scans for aura's. There are a lot of dim aura's all over the church. A lot of them. None seem more significant than any other. The book does glow with active auras.
Carver does not detect any evil auras.
Nikolai uncovers the two remaining corpses, both have large holes in their chest and give no indications of animation or reanimation.

DM Ezra: Your detect magic revealed "strong evocation and conjuration". I took poetic license to reveal said information through the mouth piece of Selyana, hence her comment in the paragraph of your action. I believe this also provided a form of helpful dialoge from the Pantheonian's.
Detect Magic: round one: presence of magical auras. Selyana says "There's some strong evocation and conjuration in there as well." check. Round two: number of different auras and potency of strongest. "strong evocation and conjuration." partial check, total number not revealed, but at least two. Round three: strength and location of each aura. You specified looking at the book only, location check. Strength of each aura, not checked. "Magical areas, multiple types of magic, or strong local magical emanations may distort or conceal weaker auras." Check for round two and three. All requirements of detect magic covered with one sentence delivered by GM mouth piece.

Tinker shrugs. ""Our mission was to head north about 3 days travel from the Citadel to the small town of Cheerful Stay, locate a stolen magic item, and return it to the Citadel so that it may given to the client. The stolen magic item is a magical tome, and no ransom demand was made." The dwarf is pretty proud that he got the Sergeant's words so exact *. "Oh, and one other thing, that the mission is direct from the Marshal."
The dwarf turns to the others to present the most reasonable idea he can think of. "So, Selyana, why don't we all go back to Cheerful Stay with said book and see if our Sergeants can identify the Book. If it's the stolen one, come back to the Citadel with us and I'm sure the client will pay for your part in retrieving the tome."
As to the bodies, Tinker has another practical idea. Wow, coming up with practical ideas is a lot like solving locks, thinks the dwarf. "Bliss, check the dead bodies for faces. That will tell us which body is missing!"

OOC: Interesting that the Fist accepted a mission to find a book. No description of the book, its size, markings, location vague... someone should take notes for the next mission...
Well, please forgive us. As you are finding out, we are playing in a much different style than usual, in that we are a military unit under the command of two sergeants and we obey their orders. So, when the sergeants came with the order to march, we marched. We really didn't even consider the possibility that the sergeants would not be present at the time we came across the book. Our bad. We are learning just as raw recruits learn, the hard way. :}
er... what David Feest said, in triplicate, with carbon copies to boot.
DM Ezra: No worries, hence the suggestion on taking notes. I once had a VP that always changed his mind about how he wanted a very time consuming report presented. It took me a few times to start developing a checklist of questions to ask him the next time. "How do you want it sorted? What fields do you want pulled from what tables? What time line do you want covered? What borders do you want? What font do you want? After the next couple of reports, I had the list pretty much done, and when he asked for a report, out came the list. Cut the number of revisions down tremendously. As SteveK noted, the group is a bunch of "inexperienced adventurers with less than a month from graduating military school."

Decrepit Old Church (DM Ezra) Tuesday April 8th, 2014 1:30:15 PM
With the number of people tracking back and forth across the church, studying this, looking at that, flipping over thing one, and looking under thing two, there are a few things that soon become evident.
The entire church has an underlying and dim aura of evil. None of the people, bodies, pews, books, pots, boots, or candlebras in the church have an evil aura. That goes for 60' around the outside of the church in line of sight from any window or door.
There is also no dust in the church. None. Thinking back, any that were in the church earlier, like before that really weird dream that everyone shared, there was dust. There were also three dead bodies then too.
The missing dead body is that of Shegal, a paladin of Pantheon, critically wounded by Carver and Nikolai, killed by William as he lay unconscious and draped across a headstone, his life's blood soaking into the ground below him.
I thought I had already stated that they had not seen undead, nor were concerned about it. They are not oblivious to it. Consider their attitude as more akin to a group of upperclass college students hearing excited, scared, commentary from some freshmen about an ebola plague across town. Waves of undead attacking a rural town are just not heard of. Now consider this is coming from a bunch of freshmen that have forced their way into the senior lounge because the freshmen feel entitled to the bbq wings served there.
Cameron asks "how did you guys come by the book?" We happened to come across it. stated by Rufford. "What's your side of the story?" Quite frankly, our business is ours, not yours. sternly added by Yelsid. "can you tell us why you are here?" Why is anyone here? or there? time and space are but points along one's life. Selyana states as she seems to be getting a grip on the death of her student. "With a book you don't know anything about?" We're not the ones searching for a mystery book. Like Rufford stated, we came across it. The covering isn't something you'd find in a nice place. This is also provided by Yelsid.
Cameron carries on mentioning the lack of interest with undead by the Pantheonians. We've said we've seen no undead. You've detected no undead, nor evil with yer spells. Our mission, which is not of your business, has nothing to do with undead. Justice is most often more concerned with the living. If you want to talk about undead, go find a priest of Gar'gul. Yelsid adds, you've said your a bunch of mercs. Why are you all hot about undead? Give and take? So, you are willing and expecting to give and take with words? What about flesh? Seems you've taken more than you have given. Are you ready to give recompense for the flesh taken?
Bliss searches for the missing body. It appears to not have walked away, they were all standing around in the church. One moment the boy is there, the next it is gone. The bedroll covering the body was not shifted anymore than from collapsing with the disappearance of the body. Floorboards under the body creak, but are soundly placed.
Tinker volunteers details of their mission, what they were sent to look for, where to look for it. He suggests the Pantheonians return to Cheerful Stay with the Fist. Yelsid strokes his chin and considers the request. He glances to Selyana, who looks at him and nods slightly. We've no need of traveling with you. Take the book, at your own risk. Our responsibilities lay in other directions. Bodies to deliver, and kin to notify. Which of you will be coming as blood payment?
The others discuss bodies, undead, and magical auras, which have been covered above, hopefully.
Rufford asks Yelsid, can we get out of here now? With Shegal's body missing, we're gonna have enough problems when we report back. It's obvious that Selifan isn't in the area.
**********
Meanwhile, in Cheerful Stay, a haggard Linden stands in Haggard's Inn and tells his tale to the sergeants as they enjoy lunch. After his rendition, they tell Linden to go rest while they consider what to do. Wouldn't be wise to rush in, if the rest are dead or captured, we'd just get chewed up in detail.
'Sides, we left now, we'd be getting there just before nightfall.
That could be a good thing.

He pipes up, "What's this 'blood payment'? Are you saying we owe you gold? You think one of us has to come with you? Why? for what reason? For how long?"
Then the one of them says, "Take the book, at your own risk." How weird is that? "Wait, what?" says Bliss. "You're giving us the book? If you did not want it, why were you fighting us for it? I'm so confused!"
Bliss thinks the book is an illusion, and he casts Guidance and touches it in order to get a Will save. His save is at +6. He also keeps alert: Perception 14.

(DM Ezra) Loose Ends Friday April 11th, 2014 12:36:14 PM
A storm starts to develop as the Fist returns to Cheerful Stay. It rages through the night, dropping torrents of rain on the town and fields.
The Fist has acquired a spellbook, the Sergeants believe it is the one they were sent to retrieve, but this won't be known until they get back to headquarters.
Answers to the loose ends. Bliss had wondered if the missing body was an illusion. There was nothing to indicate this was so, the Pantheonians would not have taken kindly to any suggestion of such.
Blood payment (or blood money), is restitution or compensation paid by an offender (usually a murderer) or his/her family group to the family or kin group of the victim. It can also be considered the reward for bringing a criminal to justice (bounty hunting). The concept of blood money was prevalent with ancient Germanic peoples, and later incorporated into early Christianity. There are also allowances for blood money in Islam, Japan, Korea, and Somalia. Courtesy Wikipedia.
Bliss had asked why the Pantheonian's were fought the Fist for the book. Yelsid explains that they defended themselves against a group of aggressive brigands that were sneaking up on them through a fog, refused to back off and state their intentions, and that even as some of them professed peaceful intentions, the others continued to advance in an aggressive fashion. Defending themselves had nothing to do with the book. Bliss determines that the book is not an illusion.
The charm effects would start wearing off around dinner time.
The dim aura of evil that permeates the building was not there prior to the shared dream (on 4/1) but was there after. It is interesting that something so powerful as a dream that was shared by all those present could have its aura dissipate so quickly to only leave a dim, fading reminder of the horrors of the dream. Upon exiting the church, it is noticed that the partially collapsed steeple is also missing.
Nikolai comments on the apparent apathy of the Pantheonian's towards the disappearance of Shegal's body. With the recent activities they have experienced, it is quire likely that they are more interested in vacating the area instead of sticking around for more horrors to manifest. The Pantheonians have also refused to divulge information regarding their own purpose in being where they are. Nikolai does not find any symbols or carvings that are unusual, or unexpected for an old, crumbling church. Yelsid dodges answering where they located the book, stating that such may reveal information about their own mission.
Yelsid does tell Prudence that the book was unattended when they came across it. Perchance someone else had possession of it before they found it, assuming it's the same book anyway.
The Pantheonian's part ways with the Fist prior to entering Cheerful Stay. Indicating they are already late in returning to their temple.
The paladin Arjiksen gives William a kindly smile, son, such will lead you to Jancassis, and then you will be dealing with a Justice. The matter has been settled by your Sergeant. Let that be the end of it. This is in response to William's muttered comment to the Pantheonians.
Once settled into the only private dining room at Haggard's Sgt Trimmack looks around the room. There are a few lessons to be learned here. Some I would have thought were common sense. Apparently your still a bit green behind the ears.
Sgt Helmbane nods in agreement, it's generally well known, and an established practice when traveling to hail a camp, wait for acknowledgement and invitation BEFORE approaching another group of travelers.
Trimmack looks up at the ceiling, watching the wisps of smoke flow along the underside of the thatching before it escapes out a vent. Let me see if I get this straight. Should one of you incite a fight in the middle of the street, you feel you would be justified in using deadly force after knocking an opponent down, so long as he had friends still fighting? We are a military organization. We have rules of engagement and behavior. We are also! beholden to the rules of the lands where we operate.
Playing his part of the bad cop-bad cop, Helmbane grumbles just to make this really plain and simple. If you are on a mission, and you are getting ready to engage a hostile force. And their mage starts casting a spell. You do not wait to see what kind of spell it is! And if you are one the receiving end, do not expect the other side to sit by and just wait to see if you're casting light, or throwing a fireball.
Trimmack slides a hand across his face We'd best be heading back. We leave at first light. Go get some sleep. Unless someone has something to say?

AC 15 T13, F12, CMD 15(19 Bull Rush or Trip); HP 19/23 "Tinker" (SteveK) Friday April 11th, 2014 6:20:28 PM
Tinker looks shame-faced and listens to the role-reversal as Trimmack bawls them out and Helmsbane gives them pointers. Looking at it from Selyana's point of view, he can really see how they must have seen the Fist as they tried to get an advantageous position.
Still, that is only one side of the story. What about the days of zombie attacks? Trimmack and Helmsbane was with the group when they were ambushed by undead a half-days travel from Cheerful Stay. "There was no reason to suspect the decrepit church with an old cemetery in less than a half a day's travel would house anyone other than enemy combatants!", Tinker counters sullenly. Still, the tactic of first hailing and then fighting if needs be could work to the Fist advantage. If the other group is neutral or friendly, well and good. And a keen eye on a swivel could turn an ambush into a surprise for the ambushers if they are NOT friendly.
What hurts Tinker most is after 3 years of training and passing graduation exercises by working as a team... well, a little fog made just about everyone do their own thing and it nearly got everyone killed.
Prudence Gundle [AC 18; HP 19/21] [Mage Armor](Kathy) Friday April 11th, 2014 6:38:14 PM
Pru listens in silence. There is so much of all of this she doesn't understand. But she'll limit herself to a couple of the most puzzling points.
"Um...sergeant? You said we should have hailed the camp. Um, we didn't know it was a camp. We were investigating what we'd been told was an abandoned building. We didn't expect people. We didn't see anything you'd expect to see at a camp--no smoke from a fire, no horses, no people. Well, there was a person up on the steeple, but I didn't see him at first. So...what did we miss? What should we have seen that would have told us it was a camp?"
The other puzzling thing is something she'd rather not discuss, but she feels she must. "You said we have rules of engagement and behavior, and we do. I kind of like that." She squirms a little, and looks down at her hands. "When we were talking--before the fighting started--one of the men said 'that one isn't male and I'd like to show her my fist.' I don't know what he meant by that. Well, I mean, I know it was kind of an awkward play on "mailed fist." But I don't know exactly....but I thought he meant....I thought he was talking about some kind of indecent assault. And it kind of made me think that these people, whoever they were, did not have rules of engagement and behavior. At least, not ones they were prepared to follow." She looks around, miserable. "I--was that wrong? Did he mean something else?"

Had I been able to make him out through the fog maybe I would have had a better read on him, but that was what I thought he meant too." "Let it go guys. Clearly our Sergeants are more interested in another group's assessment of our performance than listening to what we encountered, thought or tried to do. It isn't a debrief, it is a dressing down. Guuess we aren't the Honor Fist any more. I wonder how the Minotaur Fist would have dealt with this one? 'Course they would have been able to see over the midday fog I guess. Stand too and take your licks." Cameron waits to be dismissed. There is plenty of booze at the bar that needs drinking, and plenty of grateful townsfolk out there to buy it for him.

William listens to the sergeant's criticism and though he disagrees with most of it, he remains silent. HIs friends have said what needs to be said and he agrees with Cameron, "Let's take the rear end chewing and move on. We're the honor fist and I'm not going to let some incident like what just happened take it away from us. We were in the right no matter what they say..."
He also remembers the Paladin's advice, and tries his best to leave what happened back there in the past rather than dwelling on it and getting angrier...
Once their released, he suggests they go get a drink and then clean up...

So does anyone want to share some spells with me? I added Summon Monster 2 and Flaming Sphere at 2nd level... I already have these first level spells = PfE, SM 1, Mage Armor, Feather Fall, Magic Weapon, Sleep, Shield, Grease, Magic Missile)

OOC PSST William. You are the only arcane caster in the group with a spell book. Bards cast spontaneously and so do Sorcerers. Sorry man.

OOC: try opening that new book we just got and get some out of that. hehe. Bliss, I'm sure, can snatch it away for a couple hours without the sergeants notice. :)
IC: Nikolai takes the chewing out lika a good soldier, stonefaced and facing forward, eyes unmoving. Inside, though, he keeps repeating 'Serenity Now... Serenity Now... Serenity Now...
Afterwards, when Cameron mentions the Minotaur group, he snorts. "They have far less tact than we do. If we couldn't get them to open up diplomatically, I hardly think Mr. Tough Minotaur would either. He'd probably try the bullying tactic first and get his horns snipped for sure."
Despite the urge to celebrate their success at getting the book, whether it is the right one or not, the undead problem still bothers him. If the book was the cause, then why didn't the Pantheonians not see any all this time?
"Don't celebrate too much. We're likely to spend the night here to leave tomorrow, and we still haven't solved the undead attack mystery yet. So I'm going to remain alert tonight just in case."

(carver's updated, just not the header) With the Sargents not at all interested in hearing what is being said and listening to people other than those whom they've helped train, Carver decides it's just better to remain silent and go on about what needs doing. He grabs some food and a quick rest, expecting the need to fight off undead during the night sometime.

"Sirs, we found the church. Reconned from the air. Went in on the ground from three points in a pinser and then attempted to make peaceful communication, but they weren't bothered to meet us on equal ground. Hence we viewed them as hostile once they attacked us. I told you ALL this when I arrived for reinforcements, you. Then you couldn't be bothered. Frankly, sirs, I'm inclined to believe one of three things. First, you are not fully grasping what we are saying. Second, you don't really care to know what really happened. Lastly, we failed because your training somehow fell short, but I would hate to believe the latter!" Says the centaur, too freely to be allowed. He knows this was out of line. "Or.... this was yet another test of real world situations, in which case it was brilliant!" He says, trying to save face.

Before the end of the day, the cleric of Flower channels love to heal his friends whom he thought he lost that day. He gives each an awkward hug and tears up a little. "I need a smoke. And a mead."
(Tinker, Prudence, Carver, and Nikolai are fully healed with two channels (and anyone in the bar who was hurt, also heals 11.... kindness is good). Linden and Bliss get back 11 from those same Channels. Bliss and Linden require a bit more. He spontaneously uses his few remaining spell slots to draw healing (once is a domain), Bliss heals for 7 and Linden for 9) Linden is out of spells and has one channel left.
