Dire Tigers! (DM Cayzle) Aftermath Wednesday June 4th, 2014 11:08:37 AM
Evaris and Ariach agree that the spectacle was a waste of time. But do they say so loudly enough for the eager fight fans in the crowd to hear?
Evaris gathers everyone to the right spot and conducts some healing. No one has suffered any mortal wounds, since those heavy massive paws dealth only nonlethal damage, and I believe that the lead tiger only used his sabre teeth the one time that Royston used lethal damage.
Lowell, concerned, checks out his brother -- Grell is clearly knocked out but not dead, so there is no need for Royston to dispense the ultimate in justice ... arguably, here in Plateau City, he may not even have the authority to so rule as judge, jury, and executioner. But it is a moot point. The channeled energy and potion may even have brought Grell around.
Meanwhile, the crowd looks on, after cheering the big finish, now lapsing into silence, waiting to see what happens. You hear oohs from onlookers when Emrys pets the queen tiger.
On the rooftop, Alleah fades into the crowd of servers in the back and watches. She sees that the wealthy spectators are clearly settling bets, and she hears snippets of conversation in which the fighting prowess of both the beasts and the Vanguard are discussed in accurate detail. She notices one of the nobles signaling to Father Reuyn, who then steps down from the temple and approaches the tigers, holding his holy symbol.
Reuyn seems about to cast a spell on the tigers.

With a gasp, Grell wakes up. Finding Vaniime grabbing him by his shirt, Grell leans in and gives her a big kiss on the lips! "What would I do without you?! " Grell looks around and spots both tigers down. His smile fades when the priest steps forward to heal the tigers. "Hold on there Padre! We're here on official WLA business to bring these tigers in. I'm afraid you won't be healing them. "
Evaris [AC 19; HP 52/57] Wednesday June 4th, 2014 5:19:23 PM
"I must agree with my friend, Father Reuyn," Evaris says. "Let us take charge of the beasts. They will come to no harm, I promise. But this..." he waves his hand to encompass the entire spectacle--the tigers, the crowd, the bettors, "this is going to get somebody hurt."
[OOC: Evaris did not say aloud that the spectacle was a waste of time, so only telepaths would have heard him. :) ]

With the wave of healing energy having returned a portion of his vitality, he quickly begins to start thinking straight.
Speaking to this friends, he says, "These beautiful creatures have been awakened, by a druid most likely. They are like-minded individuals now, they crave the stimulation of intelligent conversation and socialization. The thrill of the hunt alone no longer satisfies them. My father once awakened a wolf companion. He no longer sought the companionship of other wolves. He quickly learned he no longer had that connection with his pack. At times, I think he felt regret for that loss. These two must be experiencing the same thing. We can't allow them to be caged or forced to return to the wilds if they don't wish to. There must be a way they can become productive citizens. They're no longer animals, they're much, much more! I say let them be healed and we all can walk back together as equals, not some band of merry hunters carrying back a fresh kill. It's not the kind of scene I wish to portray. It will not benefit to them to be displayed in such a manner!"

Dire Tigers! (DM Cayzle) Aftermath Thursday June 5th, 2014 3:28:41 PM
Most of the heros -- Evaris, Grell, Royston, and Ariach -- all politely urge the approaching cleric to refrain from bringing the tigers back to consciousness.
The restored Emrys, however, has a much more nuanced and thoughtful approach.
Father Reuyn seems surprised at the interference. He speaks to the heroes, looking especially at Evaris: "Well, now, no one has gotten hurt today, or rather, no one has gotten killed. The rest is business as usual in this part of the city. One gladiator school is right there; another is nearby; the arena is just through the park. Fighting for the joy of combat is expected here."
"Besides, I have an open contract with the gentleman from the Club of Connoisseurs of Combat." He nods toward the rooftop where Alleah is watching the gambling nobles. "It would be a breach of our agreement were I not to follow through. Surely, Brother Evaris, you would not want me to break a contract?"
Atop the Debate Club, Alleah wonders about the security here. Pondering the question, she does note that the servers are mostly armed -- and maybe surprisingly, the nobles watching are, on the whole, even more effectively armed. A couple are wearing blades that leak magical light from their scabbards, and if she is not mistaken, one noble has a flaming dagger in her belt.
She notes that a pair of well-dressed older men seem to be betting on whether the heroes will allow the cleric of Pantheon to revitalize the tigers.
Alleah notes that the crowd is simply watching, almost as fascinated by the new confrontation as they were by the fight.

"No," Evaris replies. "I wouldn't want you to break your contract. But....does the contract specify that you have to heal them right here in the street? Or could you accompany us as we remove the creatures to a safer place, and heal them there?"

Grell grunts at Ariach "It'll take a lot more than a big kitty to have to have somebody carry me out of a combat! I'll be fine!"
Listening in on the conversation with the priest, Grell grows impatient. This whole this is just so stupid! This particular kitties deserve a life of respect and dignity instead of this side show circus freak act! And he sure the heck isn't going to have them have to be knocked unconcious over and over just for some rich jerks pleasure! They deserve so, SO much more than this!
Tenderly rubbing the area on his face where the queen tiger smacked him, Grell takes a step forward, his sword at his side as he addresses the priest. "Look Bub, I just got my clock rung by those tigers, and I sure as slop am NOT going to fight them again just to take them in. Now I'm really sorry you're going to upset those jerks up there, and I really don't want to have to get physical about this, but if you think you're going to heal those tigers just so they have to fight somebody else, then you need to think again! But hey, I'm a reasonable kinda guy. How 'bout you hold off on healing the tigers until we get notification from the WLA as to who's got jurisdiction here."

Blood has been spilled. Our blood. Innocent blood, from men, women, and children. People have died. Do you really think that holding an exhibition of dire tigers challenging people to combat is wise at the present? Is this really as smart as you know how to be?"
The paladin shakes his head with finality. "Whatever contract you may have-" he glances briefly at the bourgeois assembled on the nearby building, "can wait a few moments. These beasts do not need to be revived here, in the city streets. We can assist you in moving them to a more secure location before you heal them. He then turns to Royston and continues with his soft voice. "Scales, is it? You of all people I would've thought would understand and empathize with these two. They have been given the divine spark, the ability to reason and know the difference from right and wrong. They are more than what they appear. Have you looked in the mirror lately? You look quite beastly yourself. You stand there posturing, all puffed up, roaring ENOUGH ... you're no different than Felix here. Then why should be treat them any differently, just because they were animals at one time? We didn't hesitate to heal you when we found you dying on that bridge, down in the Underwold, despite your unique appearance. They want to make a life here in Plateau City, probably for same reasons I've already stated. They know better than to jeopardize their chance by continuing any hostility. This performance today was their way to get their... um, paw in the door, so to speak. We should welcome them, not lead them around unconscious like prized trophies from a hunt."

Unless you have used some magic without any of us noticing, you have only their word. I have no desire to parade them as trophies. I have every desire to contain a possible threat to the city prior to allowing them to be healed. Not locking them in a cage, not secreting them to a dungeon, simply taking them behind closed doors. If you hadn't noticed, we've been dealing with rampaging beasts all day today, and dealing with ones that are sentient hardly changes the danger they pose. If they are calm and peaceable when they awaken, then I have no qualm with them."

Grell and Ariach and Evaris stand firm, and Royston looks actually threatening! Despite Emrys's words, the cleric of Pantheon is not about to risk the wrath of these warriors ... especially the one who looks reptilian and still has fresh blood on his claws and mouth.
"Well, um, well, of course!" the cleric stammers. "Let's not get hasty! I mean no offense at all."
He grabs onto Evaris's proposal for a compromise and takes it another step. "Oh, Evaris, that would be fine! Healing can come later. The contract certainly allows that! In fact, if you could do me a great favor ..."
He looks nervously at Royston, and starts backing away.
"... if you would be a good friend and execute the contract for me? You can do the healing when you are in a place you deem appropriate."
Then he turns tail and runs back into the temple.
A ripple of mocking laughter runs through the crowd.
You are free to treat the tigers as you prefer.
