Making their way to the edge of Rum Peza holds the others back, informing you that you will move forward at a casual pace as Gerox does his job, scouting ahead with Barratore. For a half hour the two cautiously move forward using the map to make sure they stay on course. Barratore follows closely behind the gnome sorcerer noting nothing usual about his surroundings. No birds singing. No squirrels running nosily through the trees. Nothing that causes him alarm. Without warning Gerox stops in front of him and raises a hand. The growing quiet had caused him to become ever cautious, but that was nothing compared to the sight on the path before him. Numerous wolf prints cross the road here, larger than any wolf he had ever seen. It would appear there really is legendary hunting out this way.
ooc: I know Gerox still wanted to explore ahead, but since I had no rolls for him I used a take 10 on perception.

Brom moves slowly through the forest with the others to give the gnome his chance to do his thing. The babarian keeps his eyes trained on the woods around (perception DC19). The mention of large wolves peeks the barbarian's curiosity because the group never ran into anything like that when they came this way more than a year ago during their surveying mission.

Peza and the others quickly catch up to the scouting party, stopping short of where the fiery gnome stands examining the tracks. Edson stays atop his horse as the young girl watches Gerox's finger trace the distinct paths of a half dozen separate tracks....there may even be more, but with the way the tracks converge it is impossible to tell for sure. "Wolves must be new to the area." Says Brom as he recalls the groups surveying mission across the island. While wolves might have always existed unnoticed on the island it is unlikely a pack this large avoided detection for so long this close to the city.
Barratore dismisses the tracks as being a distraction whereas Gerox wonders if lycanthropes might run together, and if there is a chance these prints might have been left by a werewolf. As he ponders this Peza steps forward and takes in the scene ... "Those are huge." whispers the girl as she studies the tracks. They appear fresh and cross the trail leading into the woods on the other side. Bigger than any wolf she had ever heard about, even bigger than the typical dire wolf. Her eyes then sweep their surroundings ... "Something big and nasty is about and its not alone ... i think there is a few of them .... be ready for an ambush " cautions Peza as the sound of a stick breaking echoes ominously out of sight, the cause hidden by the trees.

Brom quickly moves forward and strikes out at the large wolf in front of him. The blow hits home and he allows the swing continues into the wolf next to it as he gives a boisterous battle cry. A second later an arrow flies by his head as Edson releases the string on his bow, killing the wolf in front of him.
At the back of the group Barratore grips his sword with his second hand and bears his teeth into a grin. This was going much better than he had hoped with Gerox's fireball explodes and Brom steps forward to engage. Trusting his team, he stays where he is and anchors the groups right flank unleashing on the wolf behind him as it approaches. Peza's eyes widen as six huge wolves step from the darkness, but a grin splits her face as she watches Barratore and Brom wreak havoc. Quickly she releases tow shots, the first one burrying seep in its target.
The wolves hackles rise as they are bathed in fire and one of their pack falls under a flurry of attacks. Instantly the move forward, closing in their circle. Two of the wolves target the large minotaur. The first wolf is too slow for its prey, but the second sinks its large teeth into Barratore's thigh. The next to wolves move in after Brom. The raging barbarian's armor saves him from one attack, but wolf 4 finds a gap in his defenses and sinks his teeth into Brom's arm sending a wave of pain traveling up the warriors shoulder. The last wolf, charging out of the fire, lunges at Peza missing by inches as its jaw snaps wildly in the air.

As Barratore wipes his blade off he questions whether these creatures were a danger to the citizens of Rum, knowing that an average citizen would stand no chance against a single wolf let alone a hole pack. Peza acknowledges the risk they pose as she examines the tracks and recalls what she can about wolves. As a range she is well aware that wolves sit at the top of the food chain and sleep in the open because they have no predators to fear. When the weather is bad, they may curl up and let snow drift over them to provide extra protection from the elements. She also knows that wolves are ferociously territorial and exceptionally wide-ranging in their hunting ,with wolf packs cover broad areas. There would be no den to find and it is unlikely that another pack of such wolves would be sharing this territory with the one the League Adventurer's slaughtered.
Ever cautious, Gerox casts detect magic and takes a hard look at the wolves. They are much larger than normal, but the only traces of magic he can detect or on the group itself. Where ever they came from was influenced by pure genetics, either brought from another location or a strange cross breed...but there is nothing on the island he could think of that would result in such a species.
"I wonder if these were a test? If someone launched them against us to evaluate are strengths and coordination. We might have beaten them to easily if that is the case. If someone is watching, they now know that we can work decently as a team and need to be planned for." As he says this "Lord Kazil" and Brom continues scanning the area, but there is no indication of anyone in the area watching you and Gerox detects no magical auras that might indicate you are being watched.

Brom draws a vial from his pack and drinks it. As the group continues, Brom maintains his vigil for things that go bump in the night.
