Royston Scalesworth IV AC 16/13/15 - CMD 22 - F+13/R+8/W+13 Monday July 14th, 2014 10:47:33 PM
ooc: I'm thinking that these are business expenses that the Mayor's office should be financing.
OOC: Cayzle Comments: You could ask.
Evaris Monday July 14th, 2014 10:56:48 PM
Evaris studies the list of available transportation from Rod's. "Well, they're not cheap, but I wasn't exactly expecting them to be. Can we afford them? Maybe hippogriffs for the melee fighters, and the rest of us doubled up on gryphons? Does daily rental include feed, I wonder?"
"We could all get potions of Fly," he continues. "I don't recommend buying potions of Water Breathing or Water Walk; I can prepare those spells. And I can cast them so they cover everybody. Save your gold."
"I can also prepare and cast Freedom of Movement, if you like," he continues. "Unfortunately, I can't cast that one to cover everybody, although I can cast it three times if need be."
Ariach AC 26/13 touch AC/19 CMD23; HP 61/61(89) / -2 Con Tuesday July 15th, 2014 11:57:09 AM
"That sounds great to me. Do you need some special ingredients for your spells, Emry? Of course we would pay for it."
Royston Scalesworth IV AC 16/13/15 - CMD 22 - F+13/R+8/W+13 Tuesday July 15th, 2014 1:49:37 PM
Sir Royston raises a finger. "I do not see the need to impoverish ourselves. After all, our success in in the vested interest of the Lord Mayor and the entire city. Let us ask if they can provide us with additional aid to ensure our victory."
Emrys ac13, hp37/37 Tuesday July 15th, 2014 8:07:30 PM
Emrys politely reminds Ariach, "That was Evaris' suggestion ... a very good one I might add. Yes, I definitely need to go to the Catacombs for some personal acquisitions. Ive been trying to make up my mind on what I want, but I've been rather indecisive lately. Best to consider wisely the item to purchase when the price is so exorbitant. My father's cloak alone could purchase Star Tower and every wizard within it. Not a decision he made lightly."
Grell, HP 54/54 (82), AC 24/13/20 CMB 13, CMD 23, -4 CON, Shield of Faith(+3 AC), Guarded Stance (+1AC) Tuesday July 15th, 2014 9:13:05 PM
Grell nods at Emrys and Royston "Yeah, I'm not sure what to get either. I mean, if we rent the gryphons it's going to almost bankrupt us. Maybe we should go back to the Mayor and see what he's worked out for a ship. Maybe negotiate for the gryphons. Maybe we should get potions of Fly, get a boat and then take them when we see the critter??" Grell rubs his head as a headache is beginning to form. "Maybe Emrys can go talk to the Mayor and see if he will help us afford some of this? After paying for Felix's education, I'm afraid I'm strapped."
Lowell (Genevieve),subbed by Nellie Tuesday July 15th, 2014 9:17:44 PM
Lowell thinks and considers what the others have proposed. He's really concerned that asking the Mayor for more funds might make them look tacky, but the costs are beginning to add up quick. And like his brother, Lowell doesn't exactly have a chest of gold sitting in his closet. "Yeah, I hate to say it, but the ship is starting to sound better and better."
Lowell gives Emrys his most mischievous grin. "Unless you think maybe you can talk the Mayor into helping us out like Royston proposed."

Emrys tries to recall a few exotic armor shops and/or collectors who have specialized interests in Underwold or Drow paraphernalia. He remembers the drow platemail armor must be kept out of the light, so he places it within his handy haversack. Extra Dimensional spaces are known for their darkness. So he sets off to find the highest bidder. (Knowledge [Local]: 12. Diplomacy: 31) Maybe he knows someone that might know.
He does the same with the highly-detailed and intricately cut gem. Maybe someone at Star Tower or the Sage Guild would be interested in this long-dead and ancient source of magic. (Knowledge [Local]: 14. Diplomacy: 23.)
Meeting Doctor Shrubgrass (DM Cayzle) Wednesday July 16th, 2014 7:24:38 AM
Emrys looks for a buyer for the exotic items you found in the drow underwold city ... you manage to find a buyer at The Club of Connoisseurs of Combat willing to pay 10,000 gp for the armor, and an impish halfling wearing a stylish outfit -- those pants! -- willing to pay 5,000 gp for the gem, "for old time's sake."
A messenger from the mayor arrives, leading a wild-looking gnome, who he introduces as "Doctor Shrubgrass." She has a huge shock of frizzy hair and wide eyes. She wears a shawl, a fancy print dress, and she has a carpet bag with the same floral print as her dress.
"AAAAHHHH!" she declares, when the messenger introduces you as "the Vanguard Heroes." She looks you up and down. "The spirits have not led me astray! Fate and fortune have brought us together! Come, come, invite me in!"
She settles into the sitting room of your townhouse as if it were her own residence. She opens her carpet bag and brings out a teapot, still warm in its cozy. She passes out teacups to you all. "Come come, drink up!" she orders. "You'll want your fortune told, the Mayor says, and I have to be in two places at once today! No time for chit chat! Ask your question and drink your tea!"
She snaps at Lowell, even before he puts his cup to his lips. "And don't eat the leaves, young man! They are supposed to stay at the bottom of the cup!"
Ariach AC 26/13 touch AC/19 CMD23; HP 61/61(89) / -2 Con Wednesday July 16th, 2014 3:15:25 PM
Completely taken by surprise Ariach takes the teacup. He listens to "Doctor Shrubgrass" but it is written all over his face that he is very bewildered.
Meeting Doctor Shrubgrass (DM Cayzle) Wednesday July 16th, 2014 3:46:05 PM
The bushy-haired gnome sees Ariach's confusion writ plain on his face. She sighs.
"Mmmmm. Young man, have you forgotten the words spoken to you by the great leader of our kingdom?"
Her look grows very calm, as if she is channeling some strange knowledge. She closes her eyes, and in the voice of the Lord High Mayor, she says, "I know a seer who can maybe give us even more guidance."
You recall that these were indeed the very words Sturtevant spoke to you.
Her eyes open, and in her "normal" voice, the doctor says, "Indeed, I am she whose coming was foretold! Listen wisely to my words, or face your DOOOOM!"
Evaris Wednesday July 16th, 2014 5:19:28 PM
Ever courtly, Evaris bows a greeting to the odd little gnome. "I shall do as you ask, wise seeress, and perhaps forestall my DOOM for another day."
Ask your question and drink your tea.
Evaris thinks for a moment, then asks, "How can I best keep my new companions from harm during our upcoming mission?" He grasps the cup and takes a cautious sip of tea.
Royston Scalesworth IV AC 16/13/15 - CMD 22 - F+13/R+8/W+13 Wednesday July 16th, 2014 10:45:39 PM
Sir Royston accepts his cup of tea and blows gently to cool the liquid. "Pardon my questioning, but I want to make certain that my fortune is not wasted. Are we to ask a yes-or-no question, or something more open? I would hate to ask what strategy would be best for the coming battle, only to receive a "No."
Emrys ac13, hp37/37 Wednesday July 16th, 2014 11:19:53 PM
"I just knew you looked familiar ... tea is it? Well, I wish to know how to resolve this conflict without harm coming to anyone. Is there some lore about this Hiram Hic Draco, something personal, that will help bring about a more diplomatic resolve?" He then drinks his tea being sure to leave a clump of tea leaves for the gnome to read.
