For Every Action...

A New Dawn Rises... (Co-DM Ian)
Monday August 18th, 2014 1:06:56 PM

The Woldian suns rise over Hook City, a place trembling with anticipation and worry in the wake of recent events. Those still employed since the destruction of the Chit Machine begin their days warily, unsure of what it will bring for them. Many more stay inside, having lost the will to work, or even the will to go outside. It is difficult not to see it as a bleak scene - save for a small group of adventurers slowly beginning to rise. These last two days have been quiet -- almost too quiet, some would argue. It feels as though Hook City is teetering on the precipice of a long, dark drop into something unknown... and it is felt in the air.

However, around the Iron Tower, the air is relaxed and bright. A few children run through the street, laughing and playing, and many doors to shops can be seen thrown open to allow in whatever the day may present. The Iron Adventurers wake up alongside the suns of the Wold, their light shining brightly into the windows of where they make their home. Over the course of the last few days, many offers were given to the IA to join many different factions -- however, the group went with their close friend and ally Mara and the Solidarity and Prosperity League. The few days of downtime has been a welcome break from the constant action and stress provided to the IA in the recent past. Some have been training, others creating magical means, others patrolling around the Iron Tower to protect their fellow citizens.

The suns have been up for not even an hour when a desperate, a loud, desperate voice can be heard coming down the street towards the Iron Tower. Those with keener ears hear the familiar voice of Sgt. Capon before they see him running around the corner. "Riot!" he cries out breathlessly, stopping just a few feet short of the Tower itself to catch his breath. "Riot in Mudtown!" Those in the streets give him a lot of space as he cries up to the tower. "There's a riot in Mudtown! Please, help! The crowd is getting out of control!" A few children run by and stare at the man as he cries to the Iron Tower, only to be pulled away by their parents. At the sound of his voice, doors begin to slam shut. While this is not Mudtown, it seems no one wants to take a chance -- there is no telling how much the Protectors can handle, and when it might become too much.

And Another Thing... (Co-DM Ian)
Monday August 18th, 2014 2:23:29 PM

Just as a sidenote, I live on the west coast of Canada, so I'm 3 hours behind Woldian time. This means that I usually make my posts between 9-10PM my time and so they show up here around midnight. This gives you all the chance to make your posts whenever you want throughout the day! This week was an exception, as I'm still getting used to being a DM again... it's been, oh, say... eight months? I'm a bit rusty, so please bear with me as I get used to it again!

And Garrett - glad to see you survived the transition from Uncharted!

Riot in Mud Town? I don't understand... do you mean the Mudders are rioting outside the gates on the charred remains of their former town, or is the riot at the new settlement of Five Miles? We're happy to lend a hand if you can have another protection group or city guards keep an eye here while we try to calm those from our former home. And it would go a long way if you can promise us an audience with the right people when we come back, many riots start as the result people feeling their voices and needs aren't being heard and respected.

ooc: need another day (maybe just an hour or two) on the weapon upgrades I mentioned... found the email I was looking for, just want Bosk to verify some things with the recent rule change (not planning on any crafting at this point though, normal catacombs purchase.)

Garret hears the yelling and steps up, ready for an attack. When he sees it is Sgt. Capon, he visibly relaxes and listens to the story. He is ready to go, but he waits for the answer to the question -- it does seem odd the the mudtowners are rioting, unless they are trying to get into Hook City to just cause trouble...

It's a good question, and one that Restlin would like an answer to as well. However, he knows Capon is not one to overreact and that they need to move quickly.

Restlin will cast Overland Flight on himself, and Fly on Bosk, indicating Garret should hop on his back if he wants a ride (Garret may be quicker on his own feet even w/o a direct path via flight for all I know). Restlin encourages his companions to ask their questions en route to wherever Capon indicates they're needed.

He will cast the following spells on the way: mage armor & resist energy (fire...he remembers their last battle in Mudtown).

"Could the riot have been prevented if the group had chosen to aid the Mud Town folk?" There's a question Tink would like the answer to.

She hasn't been to Mudtown before, so will have to let Restlin lead the way. She activates her Ring of Invisibility on the way, as she flies alongside the wizard.

Bosk is shocked to hear that there is rioting in Mudtown. Why would we be hearing abut a town 5 miles away from Hook City? Why would they riot? Who would they riot aginst? After thinking bout it for a moment he can only assume that if they are making this much of panic in Hook City that there is worried that they will enter the city, and despite the cities wealth they are far from perfectly defended. The Iron Adventurers themselves had discovered a secret entrance through the an ancient catacombs, through the sewers and up into the city from the old Mudtown dumps into Hook City. They could also circumvent the gates and walls if they entered from the port side of the city...and if the could find a way through the grate the could come right down the river through the center of the city.

The blond taur grabs Kyan (who is light enough not the impact him too much) and puts him on his shoulders as the group takes off.

First we speak to Capon. 30 seconds to get information is worth the delay, especially since we need to confirm is they are outside the gates, 5 miles away, or elsewhere.

The Bearer of Bad News (Co-DM Ian)
Tuesday August 19th, 2014 12:21:57 PM

Beriothian asks where this whole ordeal is taking place. "They were in Five Miles, then they started making their way towards Hook City... and now they're at the gate, demanding to be let in. I don't know how much longer they can be kept out. I'll see what I can do about some guards, but... we need you there, now." He either ignores or misses the last bit of what the druid had to say.

Garret springs into action! ...only to relax at the sight of an old ally. From the Sergeant's story, it seems as though the Mudtowners might just want to cause some trouble, although that doesn't seem to fit with past behavior...

Restlin casts Overland Flight on himself and his allies, as well as good ol' Fly on Bosk. preparing to move towards the source of the problem. While in the air, he prepares himself for the worst, remembering previous experiences in Mudtown.

Katinka waxes philosophic about the group's decisions, wondering if this all could have been avoided. Letting the wizard lead the way, she activates her magic ring, disappearing as they glide gently towards the rather obvious crowd at the gate.

Kyan watches his friends soar off and sets off at a leisurely pace.

Bosk grabs Kyan before he can get too far and throws the human up and onto his shoulders easily. He suggests the group pauses and speaks with Capon before leaving, who seems to finally be catching his breath as you all hover impatiently over the ground.

"If they aren't at the gates now, they'll be there soon," he announces to the Iron Adventurers. "Seemed pretty determined to get in, no matter what. Problem is, there's so many, no tellin' who they're supporting or who they're with... or what they even want. There's so many of them, we're just trying to keep them out of the city and keep anyone from getting hurt."

Again, those of you with keen ears hear another voice crying out as it rounds the corner, this one unfamiliar. A young man wearing the uniform of a city guard that appears to be a bit too big for him rounds the corner, calling out, "Sergeant! Sergeant!" Before reaching the Iron Tower, he trips and lands on his face, scrambling to his feet and reaching the group covered head to toe in dirt.

He saluts, face beet-red from either exertion or embarrassment, and breathlessly announces, "The mob... the mob breached the gate, sir... no casualties, they're just..."

"Out with it, boy, what it is?" Capon demands.

"They're coming here, sir" the boy gasps. "A man came out of the crowd... said that they demand an audience with the Iron Adventurers." His eyes flicker between each of you and his face turns even more red. "They're coming to the Iron Tower now, sir."

Capon's eyes widen as he turned to look at the group. "Well..." he sighs. "Probably best to head them off before they get here. Unless you want to be dealin' with a mob of people in front of your home. It's up to the lot of you."

"Oh for the love of Pete...

"NO. We do not let them get here. We've sworn to protect this square and by gosh that means NO MOBS." Restlin is more than a little pissed off at this point. His eyes are filled with pure, corn-fed vigor.

He lands a few yards outside the square, putting himself and Garret (hopefully, he's followed by others) between the mob and his home. Part of him wants to throw stinking clouds at these hooligans until they disperse, but he decides to give diplomacy a try first.

He looks squarely at Tink, her compassion for Mudtown folks already apparent. "These people are trespassing and rampaging through our home. We'll hear what they have to say, then if they know what's good for them they will get out."

He looks forward again at the oncoming ruffians. "This is not how civil folk get their points across."

Visit Hook City: Always A Riot! (Co-DM Ian)
Wednesday August 20th, 2014 12:40:29 AM

Restlin states that the mob will not be let in to the square -- after all, isn't that what they just agreed to with Mara Weaver? Knowing Tink will put up a fight, he addresses her directly, but promises diplomacy... at first.

Kyan also takes the diplomatic route, keeping all weapons holstered. He reminisces about his friend Zeoll and, for some strange reason, get a strong whiff of salt water...

Sesha also disagrees with her arcane ally, pointing out that most governments do not allow their people to rebel before taking to the sky.

Garret attempts to emulate his friend Anrete, remembering his days in Bryn Baraz as the barbarian struck down enemy after enemy... unfortunately, three feet against a mob of people is a bit ineffective.

Beri reminisces about the liontaur as well, asking the other spellcasters if they have a spell prepared to be heard over a mob of loud, rioting people.

Before leaving, Bosk asks the Sergeant if there's any chance of calming the crowd. "You've got a better chance than anyone else... you're who they want to see, after all."

Katinka raises her objections, drawing links between this and the events of only a few days ago. It seems that, with her voice, the path is diplomatic, at least for now.

Restlin offers his rebuttals before the Sergeant pipes up, clearing his throat and saying, "You best be on your way. The mob and all." As the group rises into the air, they can hear him beginning to shout orders at the young man who delivered the message, but soon you're soaring through the air towards what is, quite clearly, the mob.

The way in which the people are gathered is almost laughably stereotypical -- a mass of commoners dressed in rather shabby clothing, carrying whatever they may have gotten their hands on, which for many of them ranged from pitchforks to torches.

DC 25 Perception Highlight to display spoiler: {Among the mob, you see small pockets of people sticking together, well-armed and -armoured. It seems that not everyone in this mob is quite so unprepared.}

The group lands just short of the square as the mob surges around the corner to greet them. The shouts and cries grow louder as the Iron Adventurers come in to view. The mass of people flood towards you like a tidal wave, growing in number and anger as the streets fill with shouts of...

"Iron Adventurers!"

"We want answers!"

"Who do you work for?"

The mob stops just shy of the party, a few people in front throwing out their arms to stop those behind them. Surprisingly, they stop rather quickly, although it seems many more people are around the corner, simply waiting. The shouts die down in your immediate vicinity, but the din of the crowd in the background makes it difficult to hear. A man wearing chainmail and a sword from a few rows back shouts, "Answer the people, Iron Adventurers! Who do you work for?"

Another cries, "Aye, where are your allegiances?"

"They're too powerful!"

"They have to be held responsible!"

The crowd around you devolves into shouting once more as those who could not get in at first begin to flood the surrounding streets, never getting within twenty feet of the party. They seem wary of the IA.

DC 30 Perception/DC 25 Sense Motive Highlight to display spoiler: {Those at the front of the crowd don't seem to be doing any talking or shouting -- they're simply trying to keep from being pushed closer to the IA. The first row of people seems to be more afraid than anything.}

Tink lowers herself down to ground level, yet still hovers a few inches above the ground. Talking to the group from 'on high' would probably not be conducive to good negotations.

She dismisses the invisibility granted by her ring to suddenly appear to the group. "If they weren't afraid before, chances are they may be now. Unavoidable I suppose"

"Good people" she says calmly "My allegiance is to my god - Pantheon. He is responsible for all justice in the Wold, and patrons the right of all beings to be heard and listened to fairly. For I am his Justicar, I seek to do the same. I stand for people to be treated fairly and lawfully, regardless of their background. Why, I believe we had a guest visit our tower recently from Mudtown who will tell you he was treated with nothing but respect and honour"

"You say we are too powerful. Too powerful for what? And that we must be held responsible for something? If I have broken any law, then I will present myself for any charges or trial."

Tink is fairly happy she has addressed the Mudders concerns, however, there is still the matter of restoring a sense of order in Hook

"You have amassed quite a show of force here, and I fear it will only seek to provoke a response from the guard of Hook City. Perhaps a smaller delegation of your choosing could speak to us in our tower? I give you my word of honour that you will be heard and treated fairly. If that is not to your liking, perhaps we could travel with you back to Mud Town to discuss what concerns you?"

She looks to Restlin. Her face is one of hope - that he may agree with her proposal to help remove the Mud Town folk from this area peacefully.

"Officially, we serve our patrons here in town. That square," he points behind himself, "is under our protection, and we will not be letting an entire mob march into it. If you wish to send representatives to air your grievances, they will be welcome in our tower."

At this point, Restlin hovers a few feet into the air before continuing, "Just as we have met with every representative of every group that wished to meet with us regarding this mess with the chits. Seriously, we've lost a lot of sleep hearing everyone's requests."

Restlin waits for a response. While he does so, that little voice in the back of his mind reminds him that this is exactly what those two unpleasant men said would happen. Either they're behind this, or the IA should have paid better attention.

Can't they see this makes no sense? It's like they are being manipulated by...

Beriothian looks over the crowed, not immediately recognizing a friendly face he can start a dialog with he addresses the crowd as a whole..

We have become too powerful? Our strength pales in comparison to what you yourselves have apparently found. Think closely upon how you got here...

Ignore the fact that this is the city of magic, that a wizard could easily have decimated your group with a single spell. Somehow you made it through the near impenetrable gates that would have been closed long before you completed your five mile trek.

The only way in would be through the well lit barbican, completely unscathed as you travered through the plethora of murder holes lining the ceiling of the place. If I recall a hundred or so arrows from above could fill the place almost immediately. And all of this at a time when the city is at full lock down.

This wasn't coincidence... you were let in. Once inside the other protector groups let you pass unharmed because they recognized you are under our protection. You are our friends and we will always try to do right by you. None the less, you are being used. The same people who caused the chaos in here a few days ago are almost certainly trying to use you to cause more chaos, not carring what would become of you in the end.

Think carefully on what I said, you know it must be true. There is no other way it could have happened...
And think carefully on this. Many times we have been asked to prove we still protect the Mudders, and we have never once failed to answer your call. What was asked of us the previous night was simply not in our power to grant... but that doesn't mean we aren't trying to find a way to make it happen.

I ask you to listen to my companions, disperse peacefully and leave a deletion to talk with us in our tower. We will work with them and do all in our power to help. We have always been your allies, let us prove we have never wavered in this.

This is a tough time for everyone in Hook City. We've been called upon six different times with six different end-goals, and we chose the path to help the most amount of people and leave the fewest at risk.

Think about it! You understand the value of a coin. You aren't completely unable to commerce without chits. You ask where our loyalty lies and it's with people who need help! I would split myself five ways if I could, if I thought those asking for help needed it truly!"

Sesha raises a finger and ticks it back and forth.

"But we will NOT have you claiming we are too powerful to be trusted. There is a difference between respect for power and trust in a person, and we demand the latter! We don't bluster about our capability and expect tribute! We save people and expect to be trusted to save them a million times over! For shame!"

Late night, post coming in the AM...

Visit Hook City: Always A Blast! (Co-DM Ian)  3d6=12 ;

Katinka sees all and knows all as she touches down to the ground. Her speech is deeply moving -- although it doesn't seem like everyone heard it...

Restlins adds his voice to the mix, hoping that his soothing tone calms the nervous crowd.

Garret prepares for a fight, leaving the diplomacy to those more inclined to it.

Beriothian brings up some excellent points, and the party can see that the first few rows of people seem to have calmed down -- however, those in behind them are still rowdy and bustling.

Kyan also lets the others do the talking, hoping that this intimidating prowess will lend some help to the group.

Sesha chastises the mob for even implying that the IA could be mistrusted, and sees some people beginning to agree with her points.

Bosk also follows the lead of his allies, adding his silent intimidation to the factor.

When all is said and done, the din of the crowd can still be heard, but the immediate vicinity around the party seems relatively calm. A man in chainmail and a half-helm steps forward, giving a sort of half-bow. "My apologies, Iron Adventurers, maybe we were a bit brash.

"We might have rushed things a bit..."

"Maybe this was drastic.."

But as calmed voices begin to call out from the crowd, so do the angered ones, but louder, as though the calming effects of the party's words has redoubled their effort to be vicious.

"Lies! All of them lies!"

"They're just trying to get us out of their city!"

"They don't want us here!"

The man that stepped forward to apologize is almost knocked off his feet as he attempts to hold the crowd back, shouting at those around him to calm down and retreat. But his voice is lost in the cacophony presented before him, and before too long the crowd surges forward, closing the gap between it and the IA. The party readies themselves to spring in to action, but as the crowd surges forward, it may be too late...

DC 35 Perception Highlight to display spoiler: {You hear, just below the din of the crowd, a single voice shouting, "Fakes! HYPOCRITES! IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!"}
DC 40 Perception Highlight to display spoiler: {Above the crowd rises a single hand, desperately clutched around something in its palm from which a fine, golden chain hangs. The hand opens, and you see a small, white ball all too late as it is slammed into the ground...}

Whether the screaming or the explosion came first, no one is quite sure.

Everyone please make a DC 14 Reflex Save or receive 12 fire damage -- a successful save means you only take half damage.

What the IA is sure of is the aftermath. People screaming. Smoke in the air. The acrid smell of seared flesh. These things are all familiar, but at the same time, the panic that grips these familiar streets makes it so much worse. People are running in every direction. And not even ten feet before you sit the charred corpses of those who were standing too close to the blast.

Around you, the injured moan and scream, either from the explosion or from being trampled by the ensuing retreat of the mob -- which now seems to be all but gone as the people disappear into the streets...

Restlin manages to avoid the worst of the blast, and his resist energy spell takes care of the rest. The wizard can then only look in horror. I mean sure, they were an unruly mob. These kinds of things lead to...well, this. Still, he doubts the entire procession was in on this.

He first peers around to see if anyone is posing an immediate threat to the IA. Then, he looks to see if anyone is threatening anyone in general.

If there are no credible threats, Restlin will throw a CLW at anyone who looks like they may perish any moment now. Sesha's much better at this kind of thing, but he'll do what he can.

He also tries to note whether or not that calm dude with the chainmail is still around.

When the ball erupts and people start dying, Sesha watches, horrified.

Why? Why would someone do this? It wasn't Restlin. It wasn't her. Tink wouldn't do it. SOMEONE killed these people intentionally, and they were doing it to strike against the IA for not following one petty path or another.

She would kill someone for this, if only she could find them... if only..

The Aftermath (Co-DM Ian)  d6=6 ;
Friday August 22nd, 2014 12:19:19 PM

In the interest of moving things along, I will ask that everyone post their actions for the rest of the day -- investigation, healing, clean-up, whatever it is you may do, ending with the return to the Iron Tower... assuming that's where you decide to rest for the night.

Restlin, through clever thinking and fast reflexes, barely takes any damage from the explosion. Looking around for someone to cast his Cure spell on, he realizes there are more than three... no, four dozen people in the immediate area are alive and conscious, but not in good shape. The ensuring rampage the explosion caused likely hurt, or perhaps even killed, more people than the initial explosion. Peering around, the IA seem to be the only people still on their feet, for now.

Beriothian makes the astute observation that someone living in Mudtown would likely not have access to the magic required to cause such an explosion.

Garret moves along the side of the mob, unable to see anything out of the ordinary before the explosion. Scanning the rooftops, he sees nothing, and makes his way through the crowd, healing what injuries he can.

Bosk takes to the air once more as he hovers over the injured, bellowing out a command to them. A few people attempt to stand up, but are quickly thwarted by their own injuries and fall to the ground. It seems as though the cleric of Gargul will have to gather them himself, or simply find the best place to release his healing energy.

Katinka shouts for guards and medics, but surely there were already some on the way... or, at least, she hopes so. Scanning the area with her incredible vision, she can see nothing out of the ordinary, save for a large blast of arcanaic aura, quickly fading. It leaves her just enough time to identify it -- if she is capable. In terms of anyone acting strangely, there are a good number of people acting rather strangely... although that it likely a mixture of panic and terror in the air. There does not appear to be anyone, save for the IA, that is not expressing one, or both, of those emotions.

DC 18 Spellcraft Highlight to display spoiler: {It is a faint aura, likely a low-level spell. You can tell the aura is an evocation aura. Beyond that, I'm sure you can extrapolate what happened.}

Sesha comes out of her shock and begins moving quickly, but it still only able to save five people. She wonders in a horror shared with most of the group who could do such a terrible act.

Kyan begins to move the injured towards Bosk, allowing them to be healed by his energy. All in all, the two of them manage to get everyone that could still be saved healed up enough that they'll survive. Many still lie on the ground, nursing wounds or weeping over a body, but most are alive.

Guards soon begin to show up to help the wounded to somewhere they can be helped. One approached the Iron Adventurers, apologizing on Sergeant Capon's behalf. "The Sergeant is busy trying to coordinate relief efforts caused by this... uhh, trampling." If any of the IA take to the sky, they see a path of destruction a few blocks long spread out from the epicenter, the blast that took place just moments ago.

"There's a lot of injured folk to take care of, and now we got a whole buncha Mudders runnin' around scared... but he did say to tell you that one o' you should be back at the Tower tonight. He's got some important information he needs to tell you himself." With that, the guard nods and goes to tend to his duties, assuming there are no questions for him.

With great sadness, Tink descends back to ground level and removes her invisibility once more.

"Sorry guys. I can't tell where it came from. And whoever did it escaped my detection." she feels some personal responsibility for not catching whoever was behind this. Detection is what she brings to the group, and she has failed - in not seeing who made the attack, and not catching them afterwards.

She tries to put what little healing knowledge she has to use, acting as a sort of triage (Heal check: 8)

I am not certain, but I thinking there were only a few people in that group pushing for violence."

She sighs.

"You are going to need to not only spread the message to the various districts of Hook City that we were attacked, but also that someone might be looking to call unrest by smearing the reputation of all the protector groups. They should be careful if someone comes to them to turn them against us. But we need our story told first."

The Aftermath (Co-DM Ian)
Monday August 25th, 2014 1:42:49 AM

Katinka immediately recognizes the spell from its blast-like evocation aura as a Fireball. Unfortunately, the source remains unknown.

Restlin wonders if anyone is identifiable at the center of the blast. There are a few bodies near the epicenter that have suffered severe burns, but could still be identified if someone knew them while they were still alive. However, there are three bodies near the very center of the blast that are so completely charred that they cannot be identified by the naked eye.

Beriothian mentions that someone should be keeping an eye on their square -- after this whole ordeal, it would not be out of the question if this was just a distraction.

Bosk ponders the possibility that a magical item was used in the attack as opposed to spell. Casting a spell in the middle of a trampling, running mob might be a bit difficult for the average spellcaster...

Sesha turns to Restlin, urging him to spread the word of what truly happened here. After all, if this mob was created to besmirch or ruin the reputation of the Iron Adventurers, everything must be done to push in the opposite direction.

Garret dashes to the sqare to find it being used as a makeshift infirmary for the time being. Those with lesser injuries are being tended to by a couple of clerics who deal with the wounds through either magical or mundane methods. Many take note of the monk as he walks through, although some face him with apprehension. Someone with a broken arm goes so far as to shout, "This is your fault!" at the halfling before being silence by the pain coming from a cleric tightening his bandage.

The rest of the day passes almost too quickly, and before too long the suns of the Wold are hanging low on the horizon. The Iron Adventurers find themselves rather drained by the day's events, but before they can rest, a weary Sergeant Capon arrives at their door.

"Been doin' my best trying to keep everything under control. Almost had another mob whip up when I had one of my men make an announcement, but only a few people injured there, even fewer arrested. What's weird..." He shakes his head vigorously. "No, what's crazy is that this wasn't the only... attack... today. In Solider City, a fight broke out, and someone ended up throwing down this vial... created a cloud that killed all four people in it. Took a couple wizards to blow the stuff away before anyone could use the street."

The night passes uneventfully, and the morning brings another sense of dread and unease. What are the Iron Adventurers doing today? How are they furthering this new investigation? What leads are they taking? Please describe your character's actions for the first half of the day.

As dawn approaches Beri is found in the kitchen, the percolator making a particularly strong cup of coffee despite having slept soundly through the night after the day of chaos. As the others filter into the kitchen for breakfast he shares his thoughts with them.
I think we made the right choice the other night, it is clear that we are needed in here and that the original plan is still in full swing against Hook City. That second attack last night makes me nervous. From the sounds of it the attackers are suicide attacks, and considering that we were the focus of one attack and one attack was a fight in soldier town it's likely that they are trying to assassinate key people. On top of which, we are among those people. The exact attack seems to be changing, so preventing it seems to be more of an option then defending against it. Of course, we don't know if they will be moving onto a new phase of their plan right away or continue with this one... it's possible since their attack on us failed.
We shouldn't split up too much today, we should stay in groups. I wold like to go to the druid gardens in town and see about borrowing a tree for a liveoak spell, would anyone care to join me? It shouldn't take too long and having another body to help could be useful if more trouble appears.

"Lady Serenbeth.. little spirit. Again I lean on you for guidance. We have chosen our path. Hook cannot be abandoned. I seek to help Mud-Town too, but for now I must put out one fire to focus on another. I seek to best prevent the next attack. Where should I go and what should I be looking for?"

Retrieving a simple neckerchief from her pack, she sets it on her bed. She wasn't quite sure what Restlin would think of this next part. She grows Pot-pot to required size and begins the gruesome task of hacking her face apart, stifling her screams as she does so. When done, she wraps the bandana around her face, starting from below the eyes. It's not the first time she's given up her appearance for spell-power, and it wouldn't be the last.

She also has one more, unsavory task. There were those she couldn't help, those who passed. She uses her magic to speak with those dead, as many as she can, to find some lead or clue she missed.

Garret does his best to heal the wounded, although some refuse his services. Once he returns to the Iron Tower, he asks if there is any way to track the people causing this.

Restlin thinks of who might be best to tell this story to, and his mind falls immediately to Mara Weaver, the person through whom they were "hired" just days ago. He finds her the next day and reveals their side of the story. She nods along, adding at the end, "Well, I never suspected any of you to be involved with this. Unfortunately, not everyone is so trusting. I've already heard rumours flying around about you, and about the Solidarity and Prosperity League... I'll do my best to work against it, but it's an uphill battle.

Kyan begins to go to Mudtown before realizing that most of the injured are likely in Five Miles and heads there instead. Upon his arrival, he is met with many a cold gaze, and not a large number of people seem to be accepting of his help.

Katinka mentions that she would be able to spot a magically adept person usually, but in Hook City there is too much arcanic interference. The next day, she accompanies Kyan and, while she isn't able to help with the diplomatic ventures, does spot something on the way back in to town... See below for more.

Beriothian wonders who these attacks may be targeting and preaches caution, saying that the IA should stick to groups. Does he venture to the Druid Gardens with any allies, or alone?

Sesha is makes herself very busy and rather mutilated. See email for answers to corpse questions and the divination.

On their way back to the Iron Tower after a day of dirty looks and very little healing, Kyan and Katinka make their way back in to town. As the two talk about some innocuous topic, Tink sees something out of the corner of her eye. In a bit of a paranoid mood, she looks up... just in time to see the would-be assassins release the toxins in their hand. Two clouds explode around Kyan and Katinka who must now make DC 20 Fort Saves or take 1 Wis Damage and roll on the Confusion table!

The assassins are on a roof 40ft. up and 10ft. away. As soon as Katinka spots them, they turn tail and run away across the rooftop. There are three civilians caught in the cloud, all of whom are coughing and hacking, having clearly inhaled a lungful of the noxious cloud around them.

Tuesday August 26th, 2014 10:15:46 AM

( Based on DM info.)

Unfortunately, the corpses nearest the epicenter of the blast are too scorched to answer any questions. The corpse must still be able to properly speak, and there is simply too much missing from those three to answer any questions. Sesha settles on the closest ones to the center of the blast, and receives the following answers...

Who gathered your mob?

Most people answer "I don't know" or "It was already a mob when I joined" but one corpse responds "I saw a small group in Five Miles beginning to shout and gather a crowd."

Where can we find them?

Again, mostly useless answers, but the one corpse that was helpful before answers, "You might want to start in Five Miles."

Who killed you?

A lot of "I don't know" and one "I was trampled to death."

Where can we find them?

Unanimously "I don't know" or silence

Were any of you under magical enchantment?

A universal no.

Skipping over the questions made irrelevant by that... Do you have any last requests?

"Tell my family I love them," "Tell them what happened to me," "Find whoever did this and make them pay."

Sesha also freely shares the results of her divination spell.

"Iron brings death in their wake
how long before they to break?
there you stand -- unbent, unbowed
two will be taken by the cloud"

I mean, the eye patch was kind of mysterious, but this was a bit much. He's about to ask what the deal is when he hears Tink yelling outside.

He rushes out, figuring he'll ask her later, to see a cloud of gas and Tink flying away. Kyan seems to be dealing with the people affected, so he grips his extend rod and casts fly on himself. If Garret is nearby, he offers him his usual place on his shoulders, then takes off after Tink.

"I'm a cruddy cleric, Kyan. I'll go help Tink. Maybe Sesha or Bosk will be able to help!"

Katinka calls out to her friend, but is too late as the gas explodes around them. She manages to fight through the madness that threatens her mind and jet up into the sky towards her enemies.

Kyan also fights off the madness, calling out for a priest as he shoves the civilians out of the cloud. They fall to the ground, convulsing and shouting out random gibberish. Someone nearby cries out that they'll fetch a cleric before running off.

Restlin listens to what Sesha has to say regarding her spellcasting, but his pondering is interrupted by Tink's cries for help from outside. After accepting the monk onto his shoulders, he flies out the window, managing to reach the site of the attack rather quickly.

Sesha looks out the window at the civilians affected and is surprised to see that this is not a spell -- at least, not one that she has seen in her time, and she has seen many. This appears to simply be a mind-affecting poison, although from here, she cannot tell.

Garret accepts the wizard's offer and reminds him that a good dive-bombing is always a sound strategy. (Hmm, reminds me of some bomb-wielding kobolds from Bryn Baraz...

Briothian remains at the Iron Tower with Sesha, insistent that the Druid's Garden is the place to go, although not without a group.

Bosk carries out the remainder of the civilians, offering them some gold to get healed. The coins are knocked out of his hands as they flail about, unable to regain control of their limbs for the time being. Unfortunately, he cannot identify the poison used in the attack. (Your DM will get back to you on the cost of their recovery...

The attackers dash off across the roof, clearing the gap between buildings with no issue. They glance over their shoulders to see Tink, Resltlin, and Garret on their tails, and seem to get a bit panicky. They split up, one diving down into an alley and continuing to run through the streets, while the other continues along the rooftops.

Reslin notices the one in the street immediately, calling for them to halt. Not surprisingly, they keep running.

Katinka stays on the one on the roof, staying close behind them and attempting to detect any magical auras on them. The person lights up, clearly having come under the effects of a spell recently. As with their friend on the ground, they seem to have no intention of stopping.

Katinka shouts out a threat, preparing to cast a summoning spell in the hopes of stopping their target.

Restlin zeroes in on his quarry, dive-bombing the figure dashing through the streets. He slows his descent and pulls up as his passenger flies off, colliding with the assassin!

Sesha warps with Bosk, floating above the roof on her broom as the others stumble to the ground.

Garret flies at his target with incredible speed, managing to plow into the ground in such a way as to avoid any damage! (Reflex 30, Garret takes no damage with Improved Evasion.) But even with the halfling on their back, the attacker manages to keep their head from cracking against the ground. (Reflex: 25, takes half damage of 8)

"Yea, we've thwarted zombie invasions, demigods...not to mention assassins who actually knew what they were doing, I'm sure we're all going to die at the hands of ignorant little children like you throwing stuff on the ground. Seriously, this is who you choose to follow? 'Come help this retarded cause by throwing trinkets around to make them look bad!' Do you not see how ridiculous that is?

Whatever. Go ahead and die, and if you're REALLY lucky, it will be our cleric of the god of life and death who gets the information he wants from your corpse. Our witch won't be nearly as respectful as he will be.

For the moment, Sesha hovers. She focuses on the dying man, unsure how long she has. Considering it's a poison and not a spell, she isn't apt to get too close. Still, she does get a little closer. Close enough for the boons of her most recent disfigurement to kick in.

What are this creatures dying thoughts? What is it protecting? What does it regret?

Will Save: DC 18 vs Detect Thoughts - At will in exchange for losing her nose!

One thing it WOULD regret, to be completely certain, is attempting to drop a poison bomb on Restlin and Tink, two people whom she liked very much.

DM JT: to answer Bosk - Garret is correct:
The attackers dash off across the roof, clearing the gap between buildings with no issue. They glance over their shoulders to see Tink, Resltlin, and Garret on their tails, and seem to get a bit panicky. They split up, one diving down into an alley and continuing to run through the streets, while the other continues along the rooftops.

The chase on the rooftops continues, with Bosk bounding across the roof tiles. He hears some crack as he charges forward. Smaller, lighter, ones manage with ease, but not the large, heavy armored minotaur.

Bosk: Dex check to not break through DC15
Fail Dex check: Acrobatics check to keep hoof from getting stuck DC25 and loose a Move Action.
Fail Acrobatics check: loose a Standard Action to extricate hoof and Move Action to Stand from Prone.

Meanwhile, Air Elementals attempt to pick up the running assassin wanna-be.

DM JT Note: I don't have the stats on these guys so hopefully Ian will give the results tomorrow.

Katinka offers the man a chance to surrender. She hears no answer as two Elementals in tornado form swirl in followed by an arrow.

Kyan shoots an arrow and probably hits but he's probably not dead, yet. (DM OOC: see DM note above.)

Down below, Beri realizes that the Iron Tower is the only building with a rooftop garden. The streets are also clean of any vegetation, thanks to the bureaucratic busybodies that have such pride in Hook City as to not leave one speck of trash or weed about. So the druid casts Stabilize, which for brief second seems to work, but then the would be assassin expires with a gasp.

Garret attempts something called CPR, however this requires the touching of his lips to the man's own lips, which is gross, but the man's mouth is foaming with a reddish, bloodish, liquidy, foamy, ichy, mix of blood and saliva and even some acid reflux.

Sesha attempts to catch the man's dying thoughts and hopes even to revive him.

BTW, we are not yet out of Combat Rounds.

Poor Ian must still be sick so I'll wing it to keep things going. If I'm off somewhat, I don't think it will make any difference. It's not like you are overwhelmed.

Picking up where we left off...

Sesha manages, at the expense of her nose, to catch the dying thoughts of the man. Which goes something like...
Sesha only: Highlight to display spoiler: {Hahahahahahahahaha... the Glory!}

The witch then casts Neutralize Poison on the corps.

Garret can only wonder why someone would do such a thing. A fanatic with promises of a thousand wives in the afterlife? Or promises of fleas of a thousand camels infesting his armpits if he doesn't?

Last Round:
Beri casts Windwall to dissipate the poisonous gasses what can penetrate through the windows and doors of the innocent civilians living in the homes where the poison gasses burst.

This Round:
DM JT: I believe Beri was near the dying assassin last round. He will have to expend a Double Move this round to get into range of the other one to cast the Baleful Polymorph spell. I'm assuming this is what he does this round.

Up on the roof, the other assassin battles two Air Elementals.

Last Round:
Two Medium Air Elementals try to envelope and lift the fleeing assassin. Unfortunately, all they do is slow him down enough for Kyan's arrow to hit before he jumps over the edge of the building.

DM JT Note: for a Whirlwind attack, the victim must be one size category smaller than the Whirlwind to take damage or be lifted in the air. See Whirlwind (Su) under Universal Monster Rules. The assassin is Medium Humanoid and the elementals are Medium also.

Bosk Be Nimble manages to avoid breaking through the roof tiles by luckily finding a support beam and running along it. He is Nimble, but not Light. He catches up with the assassin at the edge of the building as the man is about to jump. As they occupy the same square and the assassin was in the process of jumping off the roof, the minotaur will have to make his nimble feet work double time to keep them both from going over the edge.

Reflex Save DC25, Fail = fall 30' to the hard stone street below, no Acrobatics check to soften fall (as you are Grappling), damage = 9, are prone and STR check DC15 to maintain Grapple.

Save = keep from falling.

Either way, the assassin, seeing himself caught or splattered on the street, bites down and a light Crunch is heard. He immediately starts going into convulsions.

The Only Good Assassin... (Co-DM Ian)

Restlin bides his time while Sesha deals with the assassin.

Sesha searches for a second capsule and is unable to find one, she revives the assassin, who coughs up some blood and spit before resuming haggard, laboured breathing.

Garret drags the now-alive man to an alley. Any bystanders that may have been in the area to begin with are long-gone since all of this commotion and the IA find themselves quite alone.

Bosk watches as the life ebbs out of the man in his arms and immediately crouches down to investigate. The poison used is fast-acting and messy, generally used when one wants to kill themselves without much concern for the cleanup. Unfortunately, it is also highly effective, killing any grown humanoid within seconds of ingestion. Only divine intervention (or a clever Blood Witch) could save this man. There is no poison that can be extracted.

Katinka goes invisible, flying up into the sky to seek out anything out of the ordinary. She spots many people beginning to move back to the area, as well as a group of guards pushing their way through the crowd to see what has happened.

Kyan agrees with Tink, wondering what the possible endgame could have been for these people.

Beriothian attempts to transform the man to make him easier to catch, but finds himself targeting a corpse, and thinks better of it. (Bosk made the catch, so I'll let you retain the spell.

The guards approach those on the ground and demand an explanation, some going over to inspect the unconscious man in the alleyway being protected by Garret. A few calls are shouted at those still on the roof to come down so this situation can be dealt with.

Bosk calls down to the guards, Have your men keep an eye out. These assassins might have thought they could escape, but I fear their goal might have been to cause a distraction. There may be more of them around the city. These were holding suicide pills in their mouths, a detect poison spell might help you find them.

...Is A Captured Assassin (Co-DM Ian)
Tuesday September 9th, 2014 2:13:42 PM

Sesha ignores the guards at first before turning to them with a smile. This seems to offset the guards as a few smile back while others attempt (rather poorly) to remain stoic before the witch.

Garret continues to guard the unconscious assassin, making sure that no one else can attempt to kill the man -- not even himself.

Beriothian calls down from the rooftop for any assistance in getting the man to speak truthfully. One guard looks up and calls back, "Magic? You really think we jus' walk around with magic in our pockets" This elicits a few laughs from his fellow guards.

Kyan makes a jump off of the top, scaring a number of bystanders and making a few guards jump back in surprise. "Yeesh, warn us next time you wanna pull something like that!" one cries out, releasing the hilt of his sword instead of drawing it.

Restlin further explains the situation, and the person who seems to be in charge of this particular group of guards listens intently. "Poison attack, eh? Sounds like what went down yesterday. I'll call for some mages to clear the poison and send my men to the attack site to make sure no one else gets hurt." Looking around, you can see that you are, in fact, well within your sphere of influence. You are close to the stairs leading to the Magic City, but this is still Labor Town.

Katinka comes back down, quietly reappearing and keeping a careful watch on the crowd. After Kyan's show of acrobatics, it seems that they are content with staying very far away.

Bosk calls down for the guards to keep an eye out, but it seems that their captain is already giving the orders. Two are sent to move the crowd along while the rest move to contain the rest of this attack. As for the poison, there are no other signs on the corpse, simply a trace amount on his lips and the rest that is now stagnant in his veins. The see invisibility spell reveals nothing out of the ordinary.

After ordering his guards, the captain returns to speak with Restlin. "Alright, you can question him in your tower, but we'll still be by to pick him up. If what you say is true, he's gotta face trial, just like everyone else. I can give you a couple hours before someone'll be by to pick him up. And I, uh, don't think I need to be there for the questioning." His eyes flicker to Sesha's covered face. "I, uh... I don't think I need to be present for that.

As the two are talking, Garret notices their captive begin to stir and look around. When he spots Garret, his eyes widen and he struggles to his feet, clutching his side and spitting out a mouthful of blood. "The IA... will all die... he manages before collapsing back onto the ground, breathing heavily. It does not seem like restraining this man will be very difficult.

After answering any other questions the party has, the captain leaves to take care of a few other things, leaving the IA to return to the Iron Tower with their target.

Restlin goes to stand next to Sesha and waits until the guards are out of earshot. "I think they find you intimidating," he says with a smile.

"Let's get this one back to our tower so we can get some answers. Though, I have a hunch most of his answers will be 'you're all going to die.' I'm not certain he thought out the wisdom of attacking a justicar, an avenger, and a blood witch..."

Unless anyone else has any immediate business, Restlin will head back to the tower. Surely someone else is better equipped to carry an unconscious body through labortown.

Sesha watches as Tink takes positive control of the situation. Unsure of Tinks methods, Sesha pipes in, quietly to Tink when she has a chance.

"I have both Discern Lies and Detect Thoughts active permanently. When you interrogate, let me be present. I for one, do not mind using magical enchantment to find what I need, even if it frowned upon by a court. I don't care what happens to him later, but I won't let him leave our care with any secrets intact."

Sesha takes a moment making sure that Katinka understands a few of the spells she has available, such a Lesser Geas/Geas, charm, modifiy memory, and a host of other mind affecting abilities.

As they walk back, she lets herself stray a little from the others and closer to Restlin.

"I'd smile at you, but you wouldn't be able to see it because of the bandanna. I'd wink, but I've only got one eye. Please understand if I'm not particularly cuddly the next few days. Blood Witch magic can take a large physical toll on the body, and story short, right now I'm a level of grotesque somewhere between a goblin and a troll."

Restlin looks curiously at Sesha. On the one hand, he admired her for her strength, not her appearance. On the other, Restlin was mighty fond of pretty things & known for lacking an appreciation for things that didn't speak to his sense of aesthetics.

He is intensely curious about what's under that bandanna, but wise enough to know he's probably better off not looking. For now, he'll walk alongside her back to the tower (close, but hands off at her request), waving at passer-bys with his ever-present grin. "Come see me later. I have some coverings that will match your complexion better than whatever that thing on your face is does."

The Interrogation (Co-DM Ian)
Wednesday September 10th, 2014 3:04:00 PM

Restlin recommends they get the remaining assassin back to the Iron Tower, although he doubts they will receive any useful information that he has not already divulged.

Garret stands the man up and leads him back to the Tower with ease. There are a few times where he struggles, but after a brief trip and pin to the ground, he is exhausted enough to be led once more.

Beriothian searches the man before leaving, finding shockingly little on his body. Simple leather armor, and a belt pouch. Other than that, he can find nothing other than ordinary, albeit rather dark, clothing.

Katinka provides manacles for the man, making it even easier to transport and restrain him. She removes his armor, belt pouch, and cloak, leaving nothing but the clothes on his back. She attempts to remember if Hook City citizens have any special rights upon being arrested -- but she can only remember the basics. And since the IA aren't exactly the official town guard, this might be a bit of a grey area.

Bosk mentions that he would like to drop by the Catacombs. While this is possible, he would likely miss the entire interrogation were he to make his way there on foot.

Sesha speaks with Tink quietly, letting her abilities and intentions be known, before dropping back and explaining her strange appearance to Restlin.

The man is returned to the Iron Tower without incident. The IA now have a prisoner who seems to be endlessly muttering about their deaths while lolling his head around listlessly. He seems very injured as he occasionally coughs up some blood and drifts in and out of consciousness.

Don't wait this to drag out, so if everyone will post (or email, if you would rather keep it a secret) what you are doing to contribute to or during the interrogation period in your next post, I'll have a massive response to everything you ask and do. You have app. 3 hours before the guards show up to take him away. If need be, I can do an extra DM post tonight/early tomorrow to answer any questions you may have. And since this is an interrogation, this might be a good time to remind everyone that Woldian Heroes are GOOD... not to imply that anyone WILL break the rules, just a reminder not to.

With the man now tied securely to a chair and his wounds treated, Tink is ready to begin the questioning.

She gives a nod to Sesha to ensure the witch is prepared before any questioning starts.

Tink takes her holy symbol from her pocket and clutches it tightly in her hand, and looks the man squarely in the eye.

"I know you can hear me, and I know you can understand me. Know this, you are not safely encaged in the Hook City dungeons. No, you are in the IA tower. There is no one else. Just you, and us. You will answer our questions honestly, and you will be treated well. You can see that I am a Justicar, so you know this to be true. I uphold the law. However, whatever happens in here should I leave this room will not be my concern"

Tink gives a look to Bosk. She honestly doesn't know what he might do if left alone with the man. What lengths would he go to to get answers?

"Now then. Concentrate on my questions. Picture the answers in your mind and speak the truth. I do not tolerate liars, and may need to excuse myself from this room to regain my composure. Who is to say what state you may be in when I return. But enough pleasantries..."

Tink then commences with the interrogation:

- Why did you attack us? Was it planned? (Sense Motive: 25 & 36)
- Who sent you? Give me a name, race, description. (Sense Motive: 34)

With a successful Sense Motive check secretly opposed by either a Will save or a Bluff check (target's choice), the justicar can tell when a target creature is lying, just like a Discern Lies spell. However, the justicar must be holding his holy symbol and concentrating on a target creature for this ability to function. If the target is deliberately lying or trying to mislead the justicar, the symbol glows with a pure white light. If the target is telling the truth, or wins the sense motive check, or unknowingly tells a lie, the symbol stays dark.

Kyan keeps an eye out on the whole ordeal from a corner, preferring to stay out of the conflict.

Garret attempts to patch the man up, but can barely get him to sit still long enough to do so.

Restlin heals the man as little as he can, bringing him to a point where breathing doesn't seem to be a chore.

Beriothian tries to remember if there are any herbs that would help the man lower his guard, per se -- but Zeoll, possessing powerful magic himself, had no need of such plants.

Katinka sets about checking the man for any magical items or auras and comes up with nothing. With a nod to Sesha, the interrogation begins... See below for answers to the questions.

Bosk looks through his collection of body parts that comprise his totem bag, lamenting the lack of a nose. Perhaps he may add some human horn to his collection today?

What is your name?
As Katinka begins to speak to the man, he hardly seems to pay attention. Even with his consciousness assured, his head lolls around, and Tink's threats seem to fall upon deaf ears. When she asks the first question, it hangs in the air for a moment before he stares up at the Justicar through sweat-drenched hair. "My name isn't important. I'll be dead soon enough." The holy symbol remains dark. Sesha hears the name Prush Fletcher float through the man's mind, although it does not ring any bells.

Why did you attack us? Was it planned?
At this, he smiles. "I attacked you so I could kill you. We planned to kill you." He spits a bit of blood at Katinka's feet. "Shame it didn't work." Katinka's symbol remains inert. Sesha can see flashes of the man hiding on the rooftop with his ally, both invisible, before they jumped up and launched the vials at Tink and Kyan. Clearly, this was a premeditated event.

Who sent you?
The smile grows wider. "Do what you will with me. Whatever you do, I'll be dead no matter what." When the IA pushes for a name, he growls, "Wardd sent me, Gargul sent me, whatever God or King would satisfy this stupid question. They sent me." He coughs violently as the holy symbol begins to glow brightly. Sesha can sense only pain in the man's mind as he coughs, but as he straightens up and takes a breath, she is a bit shocked to find the man thinking solely of his own death in many violent ways.

Who equipped you?
"I dress myself, if that's what you're asking. Otherwise, it was the Dragon Consortium." He begins to laugh, which simply devolves into another coughing fit. His voice seems to be getting hoarser as he goes on. The holy symbol continues to grow. Sesha reads the man's mind as most definitely lying, but that the lie came from a place in his mind where he is thinking of a group. Perhaps he works as part of a group, or was hired by them, or simply knows of some group. It could simply be a stray thought about the Consortium, it's so fleeting.

What did you hope to achieve?
"I already answered this question. We want to kill you. We want you all dead." The holy symbol returns to its normal state. Sesha can only hear thoughts resembling his other comments, such as Kill the IA, the IA must die, etc.

Are further attacks against us/Hook City/Mudtown planned?
"We aren't going to stop until this is all over. We have attacks planned. You can bet on that." He smiles, cocking his head to the side. "But will I tell you where they are? That's an entirely different story. The holy symbol remains dark. Sesha's read remains the same -- more visions of death and destruction, random acts of violence, nothing specific.

Tell me of your allies.
"My allies are many. My allies are powerful. My allies will kill you long after I'm gone." The smile fades from his face and is replaced with a completely blank stare as he gazes into Katinka's eyes. "My allies mean the end of you, Iron Adventurers. They herald your doom." The holy symbol is inert. Sesha, were she a drow of more delicate principles, might be disgusted by the amount of violence and gore this man's head can produce.

Do you know of the attacks? Tell me!
"Yes, I know of them. All part of the plan, you see, all part of it, yes. Don't worry, I'm sure one of you will survive long enough to figure this all out... before we cleave the warmth from your bones." Another laughing fit results in a bout of coughing and some blood coming up once more. The holy symbol remains dark, and Sesha begins to get tired of the images and thoughts flashing through this man's mind.

Sesha -- DC 30 Arcana Highlight to display spoiler: {This man is so singularly focused, you could assume that he has received some kind of training or protection against having his mind read. Such a thing is rare in a common sell-sword or assassin.}

Restlin walks forward and casts Charm Person on the man. His eye twitches a bit as the spell is cast, but otherwise says nothing. When prodded by Restlin, he simply answers, "Doesn't matter. Still gonna kill you." Perhaps, even with the spell, attempting to make a man you have tied to a chair and have threatened repeatedly at all friendly is futile.

Garret is shocked by the blatant anger and violence portrayed by his allies.

Kyan cracks a joke from the corner of the room.

Sesha doesn't let anyone know about her results with her spell, waiting to see if Restlin's sell works first. While the spell is properly cast, the man resists it easily. Does she still use her Geas spell, or does she save it?

Bosk asks what they should call this man and his allies. "Call us whatever you want. Like I said, doesn't matter." This seems to be a theme in his new mutterings.

Katinka takes notes of everything for later reference before asking the man if he needs anything. You get the distinct feeling he is trying to spit again, but seems to be too tired.

Unless prodded, the assassin will remain silent for the remainder of his time in the Iron Tower. The guards arrive soon to escort him from the Tower, putting their own manacles on him and shackling his legs, as well. Tink makes sure the notes she took are labelled correctly (ie: "Please find below the record of interrogation of Prush Fletcher, this xxx day of xxx. He stands accused of attempted murder. Other crimes are expected to be levelled against him in the coming days"). She signs the bottom of the parchment in full - Katinka Hushfoot, Justicar.

When done she asks Sesha to co-sign the document. This seems to her to fit with what she would believe a common practise is for law officials here in Hook.

She gives a copy of the parchment to the guards to take with them at the same time as the prisoner.

Tink spends the rest of the day tinkering with her headband in her room.

The Job Offer (Co-DM Ian)

Garret watches the man as he is lead off by the guards, grumbling in their wake.

Beriothian is out of ideas, short of summoning a horde of ants.

Restlin keeps his presence in the square to help keep the peace, meeting the inspector later.

Kyan also keeps to the square, staying up late to watch the stars.

Bosk asks if they can visit the other assassin tomorrow. "I s'pose so, but that's really up to the mortician. I'll send a message down the line so they at least know you're coming."

Tink hands over the transcript of their interrogation to the captain, who thanks them. She spends the rest of the day locked in her room, tinkering with her magic headband.

The next day seems to come too quickly as the suns break over the horizon. The IA makes the familiar trek to the Treasury -- or at least, what remains of it. Scars and reminders of the battle that occurred just recently between the IA and the malfunctioning Chit Machine, although much of the debris and detritus has been cleared away.

They are signaled by Sergeant Capon near the entrance to the treasury and head over quickly to find themselves in the company of the Sergeant as well as Inspector Aulander. There are also two people standing behind the inspector in heavy cloaks, keeping their hoods up. While it is rather easy to spot their faces, they are clearly making an attempt to keep them hidden, perhaps out of custom.

"Thank you for coming," the inspector says as the IA enters the Treasury. I hope I haven't inconvenienced you in any way. I know that you've come under attack recently, but unfortunately, you haven't been the only ones. Our attention has been split through a half-dozen attempts at the same thing over the past few days. Only problem is, we can't find any kind of pattern -- except for you lot, but you're not exactly regular citizens, are you?

"Anyways, onto business. This city is in shambles, and we need to do something about it. That's why I had the Sergeant call you here."
Sgt Capon nods, but says nothing as the inspector continues. "I hope you don't mind the presence of my colleagues. They're government officials, and as much as they like to keep their noses out of the business of citizens, there reaches a point where intervention becomes necessary. Like right now."

Inspector Aulander takes a deep breath, letting it out in something that is more of a groan than a sigh. "This is all just... Capon, you got anything to say?"

The Sergeant draws himself up to his full height being speaking. "We know that you've sided with Mara Weaver and the Laborers. We're not here to contest that, you have every right to choose who you'd like to go with. But right now, we need your help. Things are only going to get worse unless we do something, and this is a big something that needs done. Only folks of your calibre could handle this kinda thing.

With a bit more prodding and sighing, the inspector finally spills the beans. "We need to you to venture beneath the Treasury. A long way down, behind so many locked doors that it's taken us this long just to find the right keys, there lies a chamber. We call it the Secret Archives of Hook City. Inside the archives is a small room and a library holding records of our city. The library can be ignored now -- it's now what we're concerned with.

"The other room is what... worries us, I suppose. The room's floor is a mosaic made up of Teucri symbols. Three doors lead out of it, all covered with the same odd symbols. And above each door is a phrase in the same language. Barely anyone knows about this room. As of now, it's the people in this room, a handful of top-level government officials, and maybe some well-learned aristocrats."

With that, the inspector claps his hands together in a final sort of way. "So! I imagine you must have a few questions about all this, so please feel free to ask them. Gods know you've all earned the right to know as much about this as possible."

Kyan raises a hand, "who gave the chamber that fancy name?"

other than that he'll let the smart ones do the questioning and listens while his hands move to double chexk his equipment.

Garret mumbles, "We don't know that language, either."

He says out loud, "What, ah, what is it that you want us to do, exactly? What do you expect to find?"

(Sorry for missing a day. Given the amount of time remaining, Sesha will not cast Gaes.)

"The Tuecri again.."

Strange how it kept coming back to these folks. Although a stomp through the lower parts of a locked away library and a room full of mosaics seemed as fun as kissing spiders, she thought it was something Restlin might like.

Restlin's eyes light up. He steals a glance to Bosk, then to Sesha. A big, stupid grin crosses his face. "Yes. Yes we will do this. Is there something down there we're supposed to do, or are we supposed to go investigate?"

We are always happy to be of service, though we need to make a small request first. As you mentioned, the city is in shambles. People are panicked. It would go a long way towards maintaining the peace if we could be invited to make the case for the Mudders helping in the labor of the new monetary system. I know you can't promise that, and that's not what we are asking, but we would like you to put in a good word for us to be invited to an upcoming meeting. Besides showing the city we are working to restore normalcy and giving the Mudders confidence we are looking out for them so the won't enter the gates again, it would also add a good cover story should rumor get out that we are by the treasury. Tell them we promise we won't push for any change, we would simply present the request and let is stand or fall on it's own merit.

Tink also tries to hide a smile. Like Restlin, she is curious about the Teucri.

"I, too, have one small request - though it will not be a deal breaker." Tink turns her attention to the two hooded men "As you know we played a key role during the Day of Faith celebrations. Many lives could have been lost and the stability of Hook City itself was threatened. The day would not have been won if it were not for the selfless actions of Inspector Aulander here. I cannot in good conscience take on this task without at least petitioning for his reinstatement as a member of the treasury. Please consider this request, or at least an inquest into it"

The Tuecri again!!! Bosk exclaims as he hears the details of the assignment. He still hopes to meet one of the aliens face to face and learn what secrets he may of them. Although eager to start, he allows the others to negotiate the the details of the task.

Kyan politely raises his hand, making many eyebrows rise in the room. The inspector fields all of the questions. "We don't know. Whoever discovered it, I suppose. If you really want to know, you might be able to find it in the archives."

Garret asks what they're expected to find. This is greeted with some apprehensive looks from the group before them. "That... we aren't entirely sure of. More artifacts? A translator, perhaps? Whatever it is, the Teucri lie at the center of this, and we need to know more about them."

Sesha laments having to deal with the Teucri again, although thinks that perhaps Restlin may enjoy the trip.

Restlin perks up at the mention of the Teucri. "Investigation is your main goal. Find out what's behind those doors, and see if you can figure out what all that scribbling on the floors and walls mean, if you can."

Beriothian brings up the need for a monetary system, making the government officials in the back share a glance. "We're working on that situation, don't worry. Something should be coming down the line soon. But we appreciate your concern."

Katinka also raises a request. The inspector goes to answer but closes his mouth quickly as his cheeks redden. Sgt Capon steps forward to answer. "We'll take that into account. If it were up to be. Aulander would be running the city right now, but it's not my choice." He steals a glance back towards the two government officials. "Once... or maybe, if the treasury gets up and running again, you can be sure I'll be rooting for him."

Bosk seems just as excited as the others in dealing with the Teucri again as his shout makes the officials jump.

"So as I said, Aulander speaks up, having regained his composure. "Your main goal with this mission is to figure out just what that room is for. There have been investigations in the past, but they've all turned up with nothing. But then again, we've never sent anyone like you lot down there, so maybe you'll turn something up.
"Listen..."
The inspector mutters, lowering his voice. "As much as we hate to admit it, we don't know where this whole... ordeal is going. We need to get a handle on the situation, and since it all started with the Chit Machine, the Teucri clearly have something to do with this. We'll take your concerns into account, but the main goal right now is figuring out the Teucri's role in all of this."

The Sergeant steps forward. "We've spent a lot of time in here, so we should get moving before someone or something gets too suspicious. If possible, we'd like for you all to leave tomorrow. Grab what you need, tie up any loose ends, do whatever it is you folks do before embarking on an adventure. Meet back here tomorrow at dawn and you'll be shown to the Archives."

After any other questions are answered, the government officials each pull out a scroll and read a few words from them before vanishing into thin air. Those with the correct magical vision see them leave the treasury quickly and quietly before the rest of you are escorted from the Treasury.

Garret responds, "Hmph. I'm not sure how searching down a deep hole is going to help this city."

He shrugs and does little the night before, keeping a close eye on the area around the IA tower before showing up, ready for adventure (kind of looking exactly the same as he always does) the next morning.

Sesha considers the request, and ponders her current selection of permanent enhancements. The Teucri were still a mysterys, and last time she went out of her way to really understand one she was a ready to murder all of Hook City for what in her mind constituted abuse of the chit machine.

She would likely need that spell again, but didn't think that even magical augmentation could help her tell lies better than Tink could.

Bidding the others an early good-night, she takes a moment to pop in and see what Restlin wanted to show her.

After that, she heals the damage to her ear, removing the "Discern Lies" spell, only to re-gouge it and add the effects of "Cats Grace".

ooc: Auslander's a she?

After agreeing to take part in Auslander's adventure, Restlin makes his way back home. He goes out on patrol w/ anyone who will join him. Well, he "patrols," but really it's just an excuse to get out and mingle. Gotta keep that Iron Adventurers brand as popular as possible, ya know...

At night, when Sesha comes to visit, he goes to his wardrobe and opens the two massive (for a wardrobe) doors. Hooks on the backs of said doors hold a number of scarfs, kerchiefs, even a pocket square or two. He looks back at her outfit, considers her skin tone and hair color, and pulls forth a silk, olive colored handkerchief. "Here, try this. I think it will work well for you." If she hesitates with him watching, he'll turn his back until she's finished.

OOC: Same here, I thought Auslander was a man :)

Tink nods and smiles to the hooded men and to Inspector Auslander. The Justicar firmly believes in justice and laws. That the Inspector lost her position as a result of the law is understandle, however, she should have the right of reply, or the right to appeal, or they should at least have considered the circumstances.

She spends the rest of the day putting the finishing touches on her modified circlet (OOC: Crafting should now be complete, however, I will await the end of this scene/module before making any changes to my sheet)
