( Sorry about yesterday! I fell asleep at like 8pm and never woke back up to post! If the DM allows it here is both yesterday and todays posts. )
Before the doors open, Sesha casts her customary group protection, Mass Bears Endurance. Everyone, including the mages on the outside, would be affected.
(+4 Con to everyone who does not already have a con bonus from items or gear or spells. This improves fort saves by 2 and hp by 2p per level. These Hp are lost like regular Hp, not temporary.)
For todays post.
"Yes, please dampen the summoning protections for us."
When the doors are opened, Sesha seeing that Garret plans to separate himself from the group, will cast Spectral Hand, so that she can heal her friends from afar.
And move to 015

DM JT Notes before post:
Sesha can get her move from yesterday, no problem.
So and Wi can not be seen until you enter the room. I simply put them there for my records. Which one spoke can be determined by a Perception check DC25. What this does is allows you to pinpoint the location, ie. closer or farther away from you. Once in the room, if the two don't swap around, you would know who spoke.
Tink: i hope you don't think I'm picking on you. :) You are the only one flying right now and I thought I'd bring up the flying rules at this point.
And most important of all, all spells with SR= yes cast toward the thing need a Caster Level check to beat his SR: D20 + caster level >= its SR for the spell to affect it.
Oh, and one more thing, if you cast a spell at it or attack it, you do it from the doorway, at least.
Oh, and it is 18' tall and has reach, as Garret will find out soon enough.

As the voice speaks Bosk instantly knows where it came from. If what TInka says is correct it sounds like someone summoned this thing. I better make sure they cannot summon any more. DM JT OOC: to answer Beri's question - do we need flying checks if we have perfect flight? (air elemental form)
The way I see it, an Air Elemental have a Fly skill bonus of + something. If it had perfect flight, it wouldn't need a Fly bonus. So yeah, you need a Fly check. Most likely you'll pass, but you may roll a '1', or you may try a quick turn, or whatever. So keep in mind the Move penalty for Climbing and the Move bonus for diving, and etc.

Also, I'm not an air elemental today so it's doesn't matter right now, but I figured it was like walking for a human (assuming humanoids are assumed to have perfect walking skill...), if it's not something you'd normally have to roll when walking then for perfect flight you wouldn't expect to roll for flying skills (though any dodge requirements or the like would still apply).
Battling an 18-foot, 4-armed monster without breaking anything. (Co-DM JonathanT) d20+22=23 ; d20+18=20 ; d6+1=6 ; 10d6=32 ; Thursday October 16th, 2014 10:01:23 PM
DM JT to those who are flying: go ahead and roll your checks even if you only miss on a '1'. You just might roll that '1'.
Katinka understands Abyssal and translates. Preferring not to go in and face the four-armed monstrosity, she stays outside and starts summoning help.
Her knowledge of magical things and religious things don't help much to identify the creature. A knwledge of the Planes would help though. On the other hand, seeing the pentagram and putting 2 and 2 together, along with the immense aura of evil, just about anyone here could deduce it is a demon of sorts.
Her Arcane Sight reveals the fading remnants of a very strong Summoning spell. From her spot, she cannot see the whole room, but for what she does see, it does seem to be what it is. That is, no extra invisible things or illusions, etc. The creature itself does not have any magical auras on it.
Restlin fails to hold back a chuckle at Kyan's comment. Good thing Inspector Auslander knows Restling pretty good and respects him, so it would appear the Inspector brushed off Restlin's chuckle, but when he answers Restlin's question on summoning, that with the dampening of the door protections, summoning something is now possible. "Look, if hey can do it, you can," he snips back, sort of a way to get back at Restlin.
Taking Shiny, he casts Fox's Cunning and then throws a rotten egg into the room followed by the Stinking Cloud spell.
Like Katinka, he tries to figure out what the thing is. He does deduce it is extraplanar and very, very, evil. Knowledge Planes would be more useful.
Having stepped into the doorway, Restlin notices a man in tattered robes and gray hair extremely out of control. Somewhere behind the monstrosity is another in much better robes.
Kyan still tries to clown around by asking "I take that isn't a Teucri?". He steps into the doorway and fires off three pathetically ineffective arrows at the thing. Maybe Karma is catching up with him? :}
Garret bravely charges forward and tries to maneuver past the four arms.
AoO vs AC39 = 22 N1? best get it over with now i guess. :(
He manages to dodge a huge pincer and lands a solid blow, however he immediately feels his blow should have done more damage than just that little scratch to the ankle. Fort save DC 21 or staggered 1d6+1 rounds = 20, for 6 rnds Realy?!!!
Sesha manages to get a Mass Bear's Endurance spell off before the doors open. Then once the door's are open, she casts Spectral Hand and moves inside.
Bosk feels he knows where the voices came from. Afraid that more summoning will be going on, he tries to make sure that won't happen and casts a Silence spell centered on G5 and will take effect at the beggining of Bosk's turn next round.
DM JT Note: casting time for Silence is 1 round. So you can move next round.
Beri decides against changing into elemental form and starts summoning something too.
The two mages and Inspector Auslander move to the back to give room for the IA to do their thing.
The Giant Storm Trooper with the Machine gun and Light Saber tries to whallop Garret as the halfling rushes into the library foyer but misses. Must be that pesky could that just erupted around him. Then that little ant sting seems to have had some power behind it after all!
Staggered 1/6.
Very limited on what it can do, the monstrous creature, seemingly unaffected by the Stinking Cloud, utters Abyssal words and turns things around a bit.
Garret, Restlin, and Kyan, loose their footing on the floor and start falling... UP!
The three speed towards the ceiling as if they were falling but come to a sudden halt 20' off the floor!
Suspended 20' off the floor they have no grip on anything, treat as Off Balance (No Dex bonus to AC and opponents get a +2 bonus on attacks). Nor can they Move on their own power!
Further more, Garret is now in the Stinking Cloud and must make a Fort Save vs DC21
And, it gets total concealment from Kyan and Reslin due to the Stinking Cloud.
Garret, 20' off the floor but right in front of the beast is still technically only 5' away, however the cloud gives both Partial Concealment.
Meanwhile, So moves next to Wi and Wi points his finger and utters arcane words that send a small ball of fire at where Kyan was standing and erupts into a fireball!
Fireball 10d6 = 32, Reflex DC21 for half, that affects all but Garret.
Also, Bosk, Katinka, please make your Concentration checks or loose your spells.
DM JT: I hope I got everything. There was a lot of stuff I had to look up to make sure all was correct.
Notes on the map: 1) the Stinking cloud is the area outlined in Mustard color and is at least 10' off the ground. 2) the creature's reach is the area outlined in purple. 3) fireball area was 20' rad but not included on map. Centered on K15, it gets everyone but Garret.
DM JT P.S.: somehow I forgot Beri on the map. Since all he's doing is summoning too, I'll put him next to Katinka. Beri also needs to save vs fireball and make a Concentration check.

Sesha senses the incoming fireball, and raises her arms in time to block the brunt of the damage.
Thinking to pull the two mortal enemies out of the fight, Sesha prepares to cast a Calm-Emotions spell, but when she reaches for Woldsblood, there is nothing there.

The Bralani then spread about and prepare their bows.
Bralani 1: Moves to E7. Readied action: If So starts to cast, shoot it with an arrow: Hit AC30 for 14pts. Concealment check if needed: 16. DM JT OOC: at least it kept my rolls. :}
Things start getting hot as the IA try to get a foothold in the library foyer. Restlin, Kyan, and Garret (who's hidden by the stinking cloud), feel themselves pulled towards the ceiling like that was the ground. Oddly enough, from their perspective, Sesha seems rooted to the 'ceiling' like any other normal person.
In this chaos, the man in old tattered robes looks a bit familiar. Could that be Socraterius? By golly gee wizz! It is!
Sesha, in the bottom right croner of the room, senses the magic of the fireball and ducks from much of the blast. However the effort caused her to loose her grip on the lay line and her Calm Emotions spell fizzles.
Tink fares better in her spellcasting. Also ducking half the fire damage, she manages to to complete her summoning spell and three Bralani pop into the room and move into their directed positions. Two hold their actions waiting for So and Wi to cast spells, the third attacks So with his scimitar. The first attack hits for 7 dmg, the others miss.
DM JT Question: you list Bralani with 3 attacks, the MM has them listed with only 2. They aren't hasted, so where'd the 3rd one come from?"
She then casts Haste on Beri, Bosk and herself and flies up towards the corridor ceiling.
The corridor ceiling is roughly 20' high, but the double doors to enter the room are only 10' high, so she effectively puts herself out of view, but this also means she can't see what's going on either. Before she flew up, she saw a large magical aura now in front of the door. How far into the room it goes she does not know, but she's sure it's the cause of seeing Restlin and Kyan suddenly fly upwards.
Considering that the creature spoke Abyssal, she's pretty sure it came from an Abyssal plane. However the exact nature of the monster escapes her.
Restlin ponders his condition. 'Why am I floating?'. But it isn't really floating. He feels his weight being drawn to the ceiling and he felt like he was 'falling' upwards, but instead of 'falling' all the way to the ceiling, he and Kyan stopped short by about 20'. So even though he 'feels' he could fall a further 20', he isn't. But there's nothing to grip but air, no 'ground' to 'stand up' on. But the spell was cast in Abyssal language, and from inside a stinking cloud, so he didn't get to see the spell as it was being cast. on the other hand, he can probably figure it out by the effects.
Either way, he does not like being suspended upside down, even if he feels he's right side up. He fitures Kyan feels the same way, so he reaches out and grabs his friend and tells him to hold on. Then the fireball hits. He manages to shake half of it off then uses his Dimension Step ability to try to get out of the gravity affected zone.
DM JT Note: Dimension Step is just Teleport, but in tens of feet instead of tens of miles. It works the same way in respect to your destination. That is, the better you know the destination, the greater the chance getting there in one piece. You got one good view of the room, and the Stinking Cloud obscures your destination, so you are at the 01-076% chance of arriving on target. I'll do the roll and see what happens: d100 = 10.
Meanwhile, he remembers some things about the Planes and the four-armed monster fits the profile of a Glabrezu demon.
Kyan thanks Restlin for getting him out of the upside down, world turned around, predicament but takes the full brunt of the fireball.
Beri takes the fireball also and it spoils his summoning spell. Seeing so little of what is going on in the room he decides to run and start to change into an air elemental. But oooops! He crosses the doorway and falls UP! just like Resltin and Kyan! He decides to transform into the air elemental right there, 20' off the ground.
DM JT note: instead of M-15, you'll be at K-15, 20' up.
Garret doesn't like being 5' away and at eye level with the 4-amred monster even less. With no surface to 'walk' on and nothing 'grasp' but air, he decides to use something his sensei just taught him. He pictures in his mind a spot he glimpsed and uses some of his Ki power to 'abundantly step' away.
DM JT Note: unlike Restlin's Dimention Step, Abundant Step works like Dimension Door with no chance of error and uses a Move action.
Popping back into existence right between So and Wi, he strikes out at Wi hoping to knock him stunned too.
Bosk was trying to shut down the noise level in the room when the fireball hit, singeing his tongue and causing him to miss speak a key word of his spell and the Silence spell fizzles too.
Frustrated, he slinks into his Dark Walk and moves into the room, partly on the Shadow Plane. It would appear that gravity does not affect shadow much and Bosk does not suffer the effects that Restlin, Kyan, Garret, and Beri did.
DM JT: Bosk is just over 9 feet. Restlin wasn't specific on the height of the Stinking Cloud but I think Resltin would put it at safe height, probably around 15' off the ground, to make sure Bosk or anyone else can Enlarge like sometimes you do.
Wi cries out in pain as a halfling pops right in behind him and jabs in in a nerve, stunning him. Fort Save DC 21 = 11, stunned for 6 rounds
Socraterius cries out "This is your fight, not ours!" and steps back and casts a spell.
Bralani 1 shoots at him and hits. Concentration Check vs DC ? = 6 + Caster Level + Ability Mod = Passed.
You'll have to trust me on this one as I can't reveal his level or Intellect at this point. You do hear a 'clink' that would indicate some kind of protection under those tattered ropes.
The spell finished, Socraterius vanishes into thin air! See Invis, Arcane Sight, nothing reveals his presence. But pretty much at the same moment he vanishes, a globe of energy encases Wi and the Stinking Cloud vanishes!
DM JT: Spellcraft check can reveal what spell, otherwise you'll just have to trust me. :}
Now with the Stinking Cloud gone, the Glabrezu see the whole room. Still with the Staggered effect (2/6), he lets out a earth shaking roar and with some Abyssal words, releases a cold, cloying miasma of greasy darkness centered just above Wi.
Br1, Br2, Br3, Garret, Kyan, and Restlin are hit.

Well, since the group are fighting something big, Tink carefully puts herself in a better position to see what's going on. Fly to H15 and be at around 20' high. Stealthily means half speed so 35ft allowed. (40ft Base + 30ft Haste = 70ft)
She tries to determine what the globe is that is encasing the Wizard (Spellcraft: 41) and what the magical attack darkness attack was (Spellcraft: 28) and then relays the information telepathically to the others.
The bralani each withstand the bulk of the damage of the magical attack (Will saves vs DC19: 23, 23, 21. All pass for half damage)
Whilst Tink may be a great scout by no means is she effective in combat. Anyone that could see her would notice her biting her bottom lip in contemplation.

Tink's skin starts to prickle. Did Restlin say a glabrezu? Why, that means ... true seeing? She's exposed!
She has no combat spells to speak of, and now nowhere to hide. Not good.
Tink puts it all on the line and casts the only spell that comes to mind. Dispel magic.
(From Dispel Magic: "If you target an object or creature that is the effect of an ongoing spell (such as a monster summoned by summon monster), you make a dispel check to end the spell that conjured the object or creature.". Tink's Dispel Check is: 31. DC=11 + the spell's caster level. Here's hoping Soc'y isn't level 21.)
As she is targeting something, she loses her (perhaps redundant) invisibility.
The Bralani though would now look to be ineffective. "Heal my friends!" she calls out desperately.

As he charges forward he recalls what he learned about binding daemons in his grim training. First, a binder must create a trap, a magic circle focused inward. Glabrezu combat Round 4:
Restlin blurts out that the 4-armed, 18' tall, machinegun totting monster is a Glabrezu demon and rattles off some of it's immunities and resistances like a professional sports caster rattling off an athlete's stats. Then he dares call an old crazed man an idiot. What nerve!
He gets hit by the icky wave of evil and has to pull deeeeep into his being to fend off the sickening effects.
Trying the old saying the bigger they are, the harder they fall theory, he casts Grease spell at the demon's feet. Save DC = 19 - SR= No.
Katinka decides she's needed inside more than outside and swoops down through the door and to her left, ending up 20' high, her back against the southern wall. A quick glance around reveals chaos and pandemonium. She sees the globe around Wi and determines it is a Resilient Sphere. Since she didn't see the spell the demon cast, only the fading magical aura, she sees that it is of the Evocation (evil) school of medium power.
with Resltin's warning about the Glabrezu, she realizes her invisibility is pointless. Quick thinking as she is, she comes up with an idea that might deal with this without any further adoo. She casts Dispell Magic hoping to beat the caster's own magic and send the demon back.
A very good idea, and a good Teachable Moment for a long Wizard's Doctorate Thesis, but the spell starts to fizzle as she realizes she didn't take into account the demon's own spell resistance and didn't put her energies in the right place. She quickly compensates and digs deep into her being to force some extra power into overcoming the creature's natural spell resistance and succeeds!
In just seconds the horrible demon is zapped back to it's Abyssal Plane!
With nothing to attack now, she puts the Bralani to better use, and has them heal her friends.
All that is left is the Stinking Cloud and Wi in the Resilient Sphere. Wi stunned 2/6.
OOC: good job folks. Sometimes the rolls just go your way. Or you use Hero Points. :)

Tink tries to conceal any shock that the spell actually worked. She raises an eyebrow and permits herself a small grin of pride and nods in satisfaction. Bosk's recognition causes her to blush a little though.
Now for the man in the bubble.
"I have another Dispel Magic spell up my sleeve if you want to save your scroll, Bosk? Though I am burning through my daily allotment pretty quickly. Failing that, we could always get creative. If someone could reduce my size - " she looks to Sesha "- I could teleport inside the sphere and pummel him"
(OOC: Tink is small in size. A Reduce Person spell would make her Tiny, and would mean she could end her turn occupying the same square as the Wiz. And her Dimensional Step ability works like teleport. Teleport and Dim Door being two spells that allow you to bypass Resilient Sphere/Wall of Force)
She elects to try something else first
"Listen here you! There are ten of us and only one of you! You saw how easily we dispatched with that demon. How long do you think it would take us to deal with you? You can't stay in that sphere forever. Surrender! Come out with your hands up! You have my word as a justicar that if you surrender now you will not be harmed. If we have to make you come out, I don't know if I can make the same promise" (Diplomacy: 26)

All Bralani to have a Readied attack to trigger IF the man comes out of the sphere AND begins to cast a spell: B1 hits AC27 - 9pts damage B2 hits AC30 - 10pts damage B3 Misses! (AC15 = Nat1)

Round 5: Stunned 3/6
So the demon is gone, and everyone is relieved. Katinka tries to be humble about it and mostly succeeds. Bosk makes sure, though, that she gets the credit, even though Garret had a big hand in it too. The halfling can only let his jaw drop by the simple fact that it was the first time he ever got his Stunning Fist to work.
The IA circle around the Resilient Sphere surrounding Wi. It is a good guess the sphere will last a while and the IA could try to dispell it or destroy it by whacking at it. But for now they decide to be diplomatic about it and give the wizard an ultimatum.
DM JT Note: theoretically you would not know how long the Stun effect will last as I'd have rolled it behind my DM screen. So just play it out as best you can accordingly to each PC's natural persona.
Through the link, Tink informs the others that the demon is gone, but the Inspector and the other two are already heading your way.
Wi remains a mystery to the IA but the two Guardian Wizards recognize him. The Inspector and the other two huddle and discuss the situation.
Unfortunately, the flaw in the IA's diplomatic plan is that Wi knows where he stands, that is, inside a Resilient Sphere. Even though that nerve is still numb and he can't do much more than wink, or spit, or other such thing, he studies the group and keeps his mouth shut.

It is decided that the IA will try to bring the Resilient Sphere down with Dispell Magic. The IA gather around and the Inspector and friends await the results. Katinka goes to the main doors and keeps watch.
There are two other sets of double doors, one to each side of the main entry doors. They are closed.
Wi does not move and appears to still be stunned. He is quickly bound and gagged.
The Inspector is very grateful to the IA and the other two appear to be impressed. Auslander explains that they know who Wi is and that this event strengthens the need to resolve this issue about the Teucri. He quickly gives the IA a tour of the place.
There is the main foyer where they stand. Teucri mosaics cover the walls and ceiling. The scenes the represent appear to be places on the Wold. either that or the Teucri home world looks just like the Wold.
The set of doors to the west of the entrance leads to the Library and the other set of doors leads to the artifact room.
Auslander then thanks the IA once again and Ebyron for the fortuitous timing of their arrival and excuses himself to help escort Wi back up for interrogation. He promises to return later on with refreshments and a more formal tour of the place.
The IA have the place to themselves. I wonder what they are going to do...

Bosk watches with more than a little jealousy as Sesha so easily dispels the globe. Briefly he thinks back to disenchanting a cursed dragon and how it took all of his power and the help of others in the group to overcome the spells power. Zeoll, Restlin, Zane, Wyaar and Beri all had to give a part of themselves (use a hero point) in order to give the spell enough power to save the dragon...but part of his service to Gargul required the sacrifice of his power. Not that being a tool of the gods didn't have its benefits...

The demon gone as if it was some evil toy easily tossed back into it's pandora box and the wizard that summoned it now magically and physically bound and taken into custody, the IA have a little time to ponder the task ahead of them: see what they can find out about the Teucri mysteries in both rooms.
Katinka asks the Inspector, via the telepathic link, if he is OK.
To which he replies: "Thank you for your concern. As far as being re-instated to my previous position, it is hard to tell. Hook City politics is a long and laborious process and no one knows what the City Government will be like that far ahead. I serve the City and what will be, will be."
Katinka tries to rationalize the reason for Socraterius and the Wizard to be down in the Teucri Library, to the point of summoning a demon. The only way to find that answer is to look through the rooms.
Restlin, all giddy when the IA are left alone, jumps to prospect of exploring the Teucri Library. Suggesting that he and Tink take to the Library, he easily opens the double doors and plunges into the first volumes he sees, but not before Katinka holds him back long enough to verify the room is safe.
Kyan jumps in with Katinka, acting real important like and looking around for dangers.
Garret perks up at the mention of an 'artifact' room. Books not being his strong point, he slips into the Artifact Room wit the pretense of 'looking for baddies in there too.'
Bosk is envious of Sesha's ease at dispelling the Resilient Sphere, remembering a time when it took the whole IA to overcome the curse on a dragon. In retrospect, it could be that they all are much more powerful now than that time ago and, well, Sesha was born more to such things than he.
DM JT: it seems like you only were in the Dark Walk Rounds 3 and 4. So two rounds used.
Sesha feels more comfortable waiting in the foyer for a call for her aid, whichever room it comes from first.
Bosk chimes in that he feels it best to explore the rooms together and not split up, but that's a little too late. Does Bosk stay outside with Sesha or join Restlin and Katinka wih books or join Garret with 'artifacts' (some of which may go BOOOOOM!?).
The search starts in ernest like kids hunting easter eggs. The books are marvelous to look at but a headache to try to read. The Teucri language is in symbols and there is no key. The symbols look like an aberration chicken stepped in mud. Scratch marks that angle this way and that and intersect here and there. Some symbols are almost identical, others completely different. Does each symbol mean a letter or does each represent a word? Or even a Thought?
A thousand or more thick volumes lines the dusty shelves with no labels even to indicate a topic.
But the search goes on. Restlin and Katinka pull their knowledge in all their disciplines, flipping through pages and hoping for some magical mysterious candle to suddenly enlighten them.
Garret opens the double doors to the artifact room and gazes into a room larger than the library. It is a maze of tables and shelves as far as the eye can see. The eye can't see far because of the tables and shelves. One area of the room is reserved for big gizmos. The tables and shelves are packed with smaller items. What were they for? Where to start? What will blow up? What will help solve their dilemma?
The IA throw in the gamut of their skills into this mission, and maybe a little luck. :)
DM JT: throw in whatever skill checks you can think of and we'll go from there. XPs for the Glabrezu encounter is: 25,600 / 7 = 3,657 each. There is no 'treasure' in this one.
I don't recall xps being given out for the Puppies of Death scene. Let me know if that was done or not. If not, I'll get back with you on that. I'll compile the list of 'treasure' that is held as 'evidence' for later pick up and post it once I know about the xps.

Surely the crazy old man had covered every inch of this place, but his scent would be fresher in the areas where his search ended. More than likely he was working his way though methodically, so they may actually be able to find the path the poor soul had been working though before he lost his mind, followed my a point where the concentration ends, a point where he had not yet been thumbing through the ancient tombs and leaving the oils of his skin any of the other thousand odors a human body produces. The IA start working at their mission, each one in their own way. Some stand by to help lift heavy tomes, others keep an eye out for Socraterius.
Garret seems overwhelmed at all the stuff in the artifact room. He first looks for dangers, see and unseen but finds the room empty of other beings. Where to start, oh where to start!
Katinka scans the library and finds it empty of others. She looks for tracks in the dust but there is no dust. Who'd let dust collect on such valuable tomes? Assured that Socraterious is not here, She does not like that the split up leaves Garret out of communication with the group, so she decides to join Garret. Finding Garret she gives him an update from the other room and scans this one too. Like Garret, she finds nothing of any other living thing.
Restlin, frustrated by the enormous task of flipping through volume after volume of chicken scratch decides to try his Luck by a quick scan of titles for something NOT teucri. Not finding anything like that he stands in the middle and tosses a coin over his head. Perhaps Wardd favored favored Socraterious more?
DM JT: From the Woldipedea - Wardd is also the god of those who are unlucky enough to struggle with mental demons and spiritual illness. He is the patron of vagrants and lunatics -- those with abnormal minds and diseased souls are often said to be under the sway of the moons, the domain of Wardd.
How fitting, eh?
The coin toss lands on another volume just like the other thousands.
Kyan lends his physical muscle to the task and leaves the mental muscle to others.

In the Artifact Room Katinka and Garret take closer looks at the myriad items on display. Some are large mechanical gizmos and others are smaller ones. There are carpentry tools, stone masonry tools, architectural measuring tools... basically anything that is used in construction.
Two things they notice: They are all in real good shape despite its age and use. (All are masterwork tools); and each one has a Teucri Rune on it.
There is a pattern to the runes. For example, all the items that look like carpentry tools have about 4 distinct runes (that is, one rune on each item, but 4 different ones). Thing is, the runes on any same two items don't match. Like, there may be 3 levels, but each level has a different rune. On the other hand, those same runes can be found on other carpentry items. And yet, none of those runes are found on non-carpentry items. And so forth.
Through the telepathic link, Katinka hears of the discovery in the other room and wants to go see what they found. She is still very uncomfortable with Socraterius' disappearance and suggest Garret follow her to the library.
Garret agrees on her suggestion.
In the library, Bosk shrugs off any idea of ill effects the book may impart on him and flips it open.
The word Journal Book is written in large letters at the top of the first page but the writing is in an old Hook City dialect. At least the handwriting is neat. It looks like a journal of someone during the time Hook City was being built. Exactly what it is saying he's not sure.

A thought does cross Tink's mind, but this is probably not the best time to discuss it. It is likely that much of the language here is Teucri. And if they want to decipher it quickly and accurately, they need someone familiar with it. Someone ... teucri? There is no one like that around (that Tink knows of) but they may have the next best thing at their disposal. Would it be possible to awaken the downed chit machine to see what it knows of this language? Of course, Tink suspects that bringing a teucri machine back to life to serve would really upset Sesha. No, best keep this as a 'Plan B'.

Tink and Garret decide to return to the library where an usual book was found. She expects to find some magical auras in here, but just like in the Artifact Room, there are none.
Bosk has a try at reading the book and though he's sure that given time he could make most of it out, Tink has a much better understanding of language patterns and quickly has the old style and syntax down pretty good.
The author of the journal is not named. He, or maybe she, apparently was an apprentice to a Teucri architect during the construction of Hook City. The author wrote down the events like a diary of sorts, but in a more technical manner. There are hours of reading that describes in detail the construction of many of the marvels of Hook City if one took the time.
While Katinka flips through the pages, a loose sheet of paper slips out from the back of the journal and flutters to the ground. Picking it up, you notice that it is in a different ink and the handwriting is different. The syntax and grammar is a little off too. It is not long and the text seems to be thanking someone for their help and he, or she, regrets they will be leaving soon.
But the big surprise is the last entry. After describing some mundane maintenance issue, It finishes by simply saying "They are gone. They could not even stay to enjoy their new city. It is up to us to keep and maintain all these marvelous creations. I was entrusted with the key to their passage and have put it safely away...
Looks like the rest of the sheet has been torn away leaving the ending a mystery!

We'er looking, We're looking, We gotta find something else?(Co-DM JonathanT) Monday November 3rd, 2014 11:17:43 AM
With the prospect of the possibility of following the Teucri, Katinka wonders if a divination spell might reveal some detail of the book, like who wrote it. She sends a message to Inspector Auslander asking some good questions about the library.
Restlin wonders if the note is a forgery. Forgery? Who forged who? The paper the note was written on is definitely old. Does he think Socraterious attempted to forge something?
Bosk has an idea of how they might find out what the missing text says. The IA, the smart ones at least, realize that just casting a mending spell to restore the page will get the page back but not the text.
Garret starts looking the library over for some form of container, secret panel, fake book, etc. that might contain the key mentioned in the journal.
Kyan wonders if the book could be used to reverse, or undo, the Hook City stuff mentioned in the book.
The book describes the mechanical and architectural aspects of many of the Hook City Teucri Marvels but does not mention the magic involved to make them work as they do.
Garret's search for the key, or container thereof, proves futile so far.
Inspector Auslander returns Katinka's message. "Yes, we do know who the mage is. For security reasons we'll not reveal his name at this point. We have him secured in an anti-magic cell. I'll be down shortly."
When the Inspector shows up, he brings some food. Nothing special, but at least something. He re-assures the IA that the wizard is under as good a guard as can be done. He has a few other interesting bits of information too.
"Unfortunately, that assassin that was caught yesterday, was assassinated himself sometime last night. (DM JT recap: this is one of the ones who bit down on those poison pills.) On the other hand, those 'dogs' were not dogs at all. When we finally removed all the magical effects affecting them, we found out they were shapechangers. Thing is, the two groups seem unrelated. More investigations are necessary."
Inspector Auslander answer's Katinka's question. "There are a number of sages and wizards who have authority to be down here. We use the artifacts in the other room as templates to make our own machines and devices so that room is used more than this one. Socraterius is the only one these past decades that showed any true interest in continuing to peruse these old tomes. To my knowledge, Socraterius is the only one desiring to destroy any, though. We'll need to look into limiting access until all this blows over, though."
Shown the journal, the inspector is very surprised at the find and likes Bosk's idea of using a dust or other method to try to bring out any possible, however faint, imprint on the page underneath. He has just the thing, used in many investigations. A super fine charcoal dust. He has one of the wizards that brought the IA down to the library go fetch the kit. The wizard returns with a young assistant with the kit.
The young assistant, the inspector explains, is being trained to find invisible writings, runes, and other such things that may be left behind in crimes and such. She (the assistant) uses some prestidigitation magic to coat the page in question with a super fine charcoal dust. This dust does radiate some magic of it's own.
In seconds several words show up as if it was actually written on the page. Some words are just not pressed down enough but my puzzle box is clear enough and good luck if you can. LOL. seems to be impressed harder than any other.
"Puzzle box? the inspector scratches his head. "If it is in here, that should be easy enough to find, but if it is in the Artifact Room, it could take days..."

And given it's name, no doubt quite a puzzle to open it. And that could lead to something else! Breadcrumb after breadcrumb.
But the teucri are not her goal. Justicar through and through, the person who must face justice for his crimes (namely attacking her) is Socraterius.
"It worries me that Socraterius is so far ahead of us in this pursuit. For all we know he may have already found the teucri, or, have found artifacts of great power to use against us. I don't like it. It seems we have but days to catch up to a madman who has devoted years to the task. Had we given him more time at the tower, could this have all been avoided?"
We'er looking, We're looking, We gotta find something else?(Co-DM JonathanT) Monday November 3rd, 2014 11:26:36 PM Restlin can't think of anything in the city that could be considered a 'puzzle box'.

Beri hisses out Black Harris.
Garret and others dig into the food. Garret wonders out loud if the box is big enough to walk into.
Katinka gets the feeling the Teucri don't want to be found and are tossing crumbs along a looooong path. She is more worried that Socraterius may have already found the Teucri or something of theirs with great power that he can use against the IA.
The Inspector rubs his chin. Well, Socraterius is a madman so who knows what he'll do next. But one thing he's made clear is that he intends to destroy all Teucri items, believing them to be cursed. So I don't think he's got one tucked away to use against us. The other thing is that the Teucri, as far as anyone knows, did not leave any such item that could be use to do harm. In our history books, the Teucri were a peaceful people. Even the Chit Machine was very docile up until .... anyway...
No Garret, I don't think it is a box that big. On the other hand, this man in the journal is one of our ancestors, not a Teucri, so the box probably isn't Tuecri made. He's an architect from what you describe and eiher made the box himself or purchased it.
Either way, we've searched Socraterius' home when he first when bonkers but we can search again. He went crazed at home and as best we can tell today was his first visit down here since. But on the off chance Socraterius didn't make the same non-Teucri connection we hope is the right one, it may be still down here somewhere. Have you thoroughly searched the Artifact Room? Now that we have an idea of what to look for, it would be worth a try."
He turns to Katinka and gently pats her shoulder, "You mean if you had take up his offer to help destroy the artifacts.. I mean, if you had pretended to take up his offer? Who knows? Pretending is a dangerous game, even for those highly practiced at it. Just concentrate on what you can do now, not what maybe you could have done yesterday."

With all agreement to do a thorough search of the Artifact Room, now that they know somewhat what they are looking for, the IA swarm the huge room.
It is a maze of tables and shelves as far as the eye can see. The eye can't see far because of the tables and shelves. One area of the room is reserved for big machines. The tables and shelves are packed with smaller items. What were they for? It appears that the tables and shelves are a repository of architectural, engineering, carpentry, and construction equipment and what Katinka calls thingamajigs and watchamacallzits. From simple tools that anyone can figure out to complex systems of gears and pulleys perhaps used to lift and move heavy items. A Gnome's heaven!
As they inspect the Teucri artifacts, two things they notice: They are all in real good shape despite its age and use.
Several hours go by as each table and shelf, and spaces underneath, is meticulously searched by each IA member. Suddenly Kyan blurts out Could this be it?
Unlike the other items in the room, each of which has a Teucri symbol on it, this one does not.
He holds in his hand a small cube perhaps 1/2 a foot to each side. It is made of a strange gray metal. Five sides of the cube are smooth and blank. A sixth side has weird symbols on it. There is no seam anywhere on the cube. The symbols look alien yet not Teucri:

DM JT OOC: this is indeed a match stick puzzle in honor of Tom.
DM JT IC: Several members of the IA inspect the new found cube. The metal is adamantite. There is no seems anywhere. There are no markings of any sort, however the symbols 'V I I = I' are thin metal rods that are magnetized to that face. There are 7 little rods, two make up the 'V' and two make up the '='.
The wizard that brought you down here raises his eyebrows and quips, "Looks like a numerical equation. There are other puzzle boxes with similar style, each with a different numerical puzzle to solve. You manipulate the rods so that one side equals (ie. =) the other. The 'V' is an old form of the number 5 and the 'I' are the old form of the number 1. So right now it says 7 = 1."
Katinka lays out a set of carpentry tools and studies them. They are all masterwork tools in excellent condition. None are particularly worth more than another.
Restlin finds that he can manipulate the little adamantite rods and puts them in the order of: "I ^ I = I".
Nothing happens.
Garret has fun with the tools. He suggests getting Anrete to smash it.

We'er looking, We're looking, We gotta find something else?(Co-DM JonathanT) Saturday November 8th, 2014 10:27:22 AM
DM JT: the main clue is You manipulate the rods so that one side equals (ie. =), that is, the '=' sign must remain as is, so '<=', '=/=', etc does not work. The main purpose is to have some fun and tease your brain. I doubt any PC would have the mathematical knowledge to figure out complex algebra equations without the Knowledge (Math) skill, which isn't one of the standard skills. At least I don't think Algebra and Calculus is a standard D&D world field of study. :)
I'm glad the IA have some geniuses as Players and have figured it out quick enough. LOL
DM JT IC:
Various IA members try their hand at manipulating the small adamantite rods in various mathematical equations and the low key minotaur Bosk accidentally fumbles the rods with his big clumsy fingers in such a way as to hit upon the right answer: Square root of 1 = 1.
The adamantite box gives off a green flash from an otherwise invisible seam and the lid opens on two hinges. Nestled inside in a felt cloth is a pebble with a Teucri rune inscribed on it.
Restlin recognizes the pebble as a Memorystone.
If this is the key, then where is the keyhole?

DM JT OOC: For those not familiar with Memory Stones, in the Woldipedia it reads: The Memory Stones. Used almost exclusively in South Hook, each South Hook citizen has a Memory Stone, and all official laws and regulations and contracts between South Hook citizens are recorded on government 'Stones too. For example, two South Hook citizens want to record a contract and go to a city official with their personal Memory Stone. The Official brings a City Memory Stone. In the presence of all three stones, the contract is read and both parties and the official state their agreement. In the future, either party or any city official can use any 'Stone to replay the contract and any pertinent recording that would affect the contract. Just like the Chits, the Stones are indestructible and only work near Hook City, they must be Teucri Artifacts!
For those native to Hook and for those who've been in Hook City for a while, these Memory stones are common knowledge. However these Memory stones are made for Hook City residents of the non-Teucri race. This Memory stone is distinctively different.
(OK, you won't need 3 memory stones.)
But when it comes to one of the Original Memory stones, who knows what it was designed to do? Certainly not the measly civic task the non-original Teucri ones are for. According to the journal, someone had to close the gate to the Teucri home land after the last one left. That someone was the author of the journal, so this one was the key to open and close the gates. Now it seems you need to find where to put it.

The IA gather around the opened puzzle box and marvel at the Memory stone. Known throughout Hook City, specially in South Hook, where every legal citizen is issued one, these stones are about the size of a normal sized palm and holds a rune keyed to the individual it was created for. The Chit Machine created the Chits, the IA now know, but no one the IA knows has ever mentioned how these Memory Stones are created.
This Memory Stone, though, has been in the puzzle box for many centuries. According to the journal, it was put in the box when the last Teucri walked through the portal to the Teucri homeland. Therefore, it has to be an original Memory stone made by the Teucri themselves. It perhaps is the only one in existence, as any other original ones would have been taken home by their owner.
No price can be put on it even if it couldn't do anything put hold paper down. But this one promises to open the gate to the Teucri homeworld!
If only the IA could find the gate...
Ar'kimedies, the elder of the two mages that brought the IA down and who brought the young apprentice, scratches his head.
"I know these rooms like the back of my hand. I do believe I know where this stones goes. Follow me."
Ar'kimedies leads all out into the main foyer, the pentagonal room. The room echoes with his voice as he speaks, "These rooms are original to the time of the Teucri. The Library is where they archived their work and the Artifact room is where they stored their tools. We believe that a Teucri owned his own set of tools and had his own rune etched on his tools.
In the hundreds of rooms in the next few floors up is where they did all their work. They planned and designed Hook City and its marvels in those rooms.
Or history tells us that they left suddenly. One day they were here, the next they were gone. No one saw them leave so we know they didn't leave the city through the gates. The author of the journal seems to indicate that it is in this room here, right where we stand, that the portal is hidden."
He looks around the room, his gaze passing over the IA as if they are not there.
"Yes. This is the room. They passed through here and through a portal. Now it makes sense..."
He heads straight over to the corner of the pentagonal room that forms the top tip of the room and kneels down. Putting his palm down at the base where the two walls come together he smiles.
DM OOC: a pentagon has 5 sides and thus 5 corners. The bottom side is where the main entrance doors are, with one corner to the left and one to the right. The 'tip' of the pentagonal room is where he went to, this is the corner straight ahead in front of the main entrance.
He gets up a rushes to the corner to his left and does the same thing, then runs to the one across from that and does the same thing, putting his palm down at the base where the two sides meet.
"Now I see, but there was no way to know what these indentations in the floor meant until now. You see, at the base of each of these three corners there is a little indentation just that size. I will bet you a Trillion Chits that that Memory stone fits in those indentations," he says as he stands with a big smile on his face.

IC: It seems the IA are in favor of trying out Ar'kimedies' theory, but not without some trepidation.
Ar'kimedies explains that he's told everything he knows about the room and much of that is guesswork based upon logical deduction.
While Restin walks over to the corner that forms the top of the pentagonal room, Beri reminds everyone of one such similar thing back at the Iron Tower which they plugged due to some very bad premonitions.
Nevertheless, Restlin puts the Teucri Memory Stone in the indentation.
The Teucri Memory Stone seems to meld into the indentation before the whole room shudders. Then a crack appears in the corner's joints from top to bottom and the sound of stone moving on stone echoes loudly. in mere seconds it is obvious that those two sides are swinging open.
