DM RobC - Seaspawn Combat - Round 17 Monday November 3rd, 2014 5:06:44 AM OOC:
Hi Guys,
Googledocs is giving me grief. I've been trying to update the map, but after 30secs the spreadsheet locks up. I then refresh and the same thing happens. Over and over again. It also means I can't access the module writeup in Googledocs for all the enemy stats! I'll keep trying over the next hour or two, but if it doesn't work then we may need to miss a day. Sorry!

Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC23 - HP 44 of 45) Monday November 3rd, 2014 10:45:01 AM
Just before making his heroic effort at a channel, Zeoll does one last check on his position. Can he reach Coer with his healing energy? Oops! Maybe he is off by a tiny bit? He takes a step or two as needed to ensure that the big taur is in range for the healing effect.

Jeff L Snafu HP 17/53, ÀÇ 15 (T13, FF 12), CMD 16, mirror image Monday November 3rd, 2014 2:02:20 PM
What's the Woldian record for most times knocked out in a single battle? MAGANA IS HARDCORE!
Magana (Craig) [HP 4 of 81] [DR 1/-] Monday November 3rd, 2014 3:42:52 PM
Aex watches the blood ooze from the tree. She asks them what is happening, but they don't answer her. Not a single tree or plant will speak with her. The blood that has run down the tree makes its way to the ground, where it starts to pool.
On her knees, Aex can see her reflection in the reddish brown pool. But the face she sees is not hers. Or at least, not hers as it should be. The face she sees is greatly aged. Pale hair and a wrinkled face. But there is no mistaking it. That is Aexana!
-----------------------
Magana rises - practically from the grave - back to her feet. Her blow connects, but not with the force she had hoped for. She swings her flail again (this round) connecting only once.
Terser tries to finish off the lobster, but misses on all counts.
Zeoll heads westward to get into a position to heal Coer. Doing so means exposing himself to danger, but he's ok with that. To get into the best position to heal Coer, unfortunately means that Snafu and Jozhir are outside the range of the burst. Sam and Coer though (and Zeoll, obviously), all benefit from the energy channel. As does lobster 3.
Jozhur climbs up the side of the building and starts to make his way carefully along the rooftop. There isn't a position Zeoll can maneuver to (outside the Red Caps) to be able to heal both Jozhur and Coer. THe dying Captain's needs will have to come first.
Snafu goes defensive, casting a mage armor spell on himself and sharing it with Mojo. This was turning out to be a tough battle. That he managed to go this long without mage armor is a testament to his growing skills.
Coer focuses his ki to improve his defence before he regains his footing. Both lobsters strike at him, but both miss! Refusing to go down without a fight, Coer punchs the healed lobster one more time.
The leprechaun for his part snaps his fingers in the air, and turns invisible!
Lobster 1 now finds two foes opposing it - the dwarf and the minotaur. And the minotaur just took a big chuck of shell off it! The lobster fights back with its inferior claw, and hits Magana again! (Hit AC23. Magana takes 11pts damage and is dying once more!)
Lobster 3 is surrounded by Red Caps, but only one thing tried to hit it this round. Zeoll has moved in to range for a claw to reach him, bbut the Red Caps are in the way. The mindless creature simply attack the creature that last attacked it - Coer! (Hit AC27. Coer takes 11pts damage and is dying once more!). With its second attack it tries to hit one of the Red Caps, but the fey are very tricksy (Will Save vs DC20 to disbelieve: 15 = Fail again!)
Lobster 4 attacks the fey around it. It's claws snap left and right, and the fey look to be taking damage (Will Save vs DC20 to disbelieve: 6 = Fail again!)
Seaspawn 7 fires an icicle at Zeoll! (Auto hit. Zeoll takes 4pts damage!)
Seaspawn 8 fires an icicle at the Red Caps that stand between it and Coer. The seaspawn's eyes narrow as it realises the truth of the situation (Will Save vs DC20: 25 = Pass!)
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC23 - HP 40 of 45) d20+5=12 ; d20+9=20 ; Tuesday November 4th, 2014 6:41:11 AM
In a way, Zeoll is glad to be hit by an icicle. It implies that, like the heroes of the Lionfish, the enemy is also running out of things to cast!
Checks to figure out what this icicle thing is. Spell-like or supernatural? Bloodline or domain power? Divine or arcane? How many can it likely do? How many has each one done?
Know Arcana: 12 Spellcraft: 20
Hmmm ...
Zeoll looks around to see what his friends do. He shouts to Jozhur, "Aim at the BIG CLAW!"
OOC: Using the delay action.
DM Rob: I think unless Jozhur has ranks in Sharpshooter, he can only attempt to sunder the big claw with a melee weapon

This fight has to end quickly. Everyone's energy is running low, friends are going down left and right, and the only hope is that the enemy is running down as well.
He manages one last mighty flurry against the lobster, then spends a channel (hero point) to keep Magana afloat before running off to assist the others.
Standard action - attack lobster. AC 32 for 22 damage, haste attack vs AC 24 for 21 damage Hero point - channel energy for 3 healing to me, magana, and the lobster (if it's not dead) Move action - 60 foot with haste bonus, end at AL32

Jozhur creeps along the top of the building until his enemies come into view and is surprised to see the sea of redcaps. His bow twangs and another arrow flies...
------------------ Correct Rob, Jozhur can't perform a ranged sunder and will be crushed to a pulp if he attempts a melee sunder.
Stealth: 20 Attack hits AC18, 7 damage plus 16 if stealth was successful.
Jozhur will prefer to continue targeting L4, which will result in a miss. However, if the redcaps provide partial cover to the lobsters, even from his elevated position, he would choose to target one of the seaspawn riders and score a hit.
Magana (Craig) [HP -4 of 81] [DR 1/-] Tuesday November 4th, 2014 2:27:02 PM
Magana is brought low yet again, but immediately stabilizes due to Terser's timely healing.
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC23 - HP 40 of 45) Tuesday November 4th, 2014 2:29:13 PM
Can we get a duration check on the Haste spell please?
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC23 - HP 40 of 45) Tuesday November 4th, 2014 4:09:20 PM
Zeoll has to decide if he should channel energy or something else. He is afraid that he will not do much good if he brings Coer up just to have him fall down again. And it heals the lobster, so there's that?
He tries to figure out if there is any way for him to include Jozhur and Snafu in the blast of healing energy?
Sam (David W): 14/12/13 -- CMD 14 -- HP 32/48 Tuesday November 4th, 2014 10:22:20 PM

Zeoll counts on the redcaps to continue to distract the lobsters. And with the one near him blinded, it cannot take AoOs any more! He decides the group needs both curing and help. He channels energy, curing 14 hp to everyone within 30 ft. Then he takes a step back five feet away from the lobsters, and then he undons his shield.

Aexana can see her hands in front of her. They look completely normal. Yet in the reflection of the bloody pool, they look frail and old. A vision of things to come? A vision of things that may no longer come?
--------------------------
Terser unloads, splitting the lobster shell in two ... dozen pieces. He draws on his heroic reserves to find the power to channel some healing energy to Magana. This dwarf is about death AND life.
Magana goes to the brink of death yet again, but is pulled back to life.
Jozhur gets into sniping range. The lobster hasn't seen him (Perception: 16), so his shot comes as a surprise. But the creature's tough shell deflects the arrow (Hitting AC18 isn't enough to beat a Flat AC20)
Sam stays put. It's a safe spot, he can see Terser and he has Zeoll by his side. There could be worse places to be right now.
Snafu edges closer to Zeoll. He can tell the linotaur will be channeling some more healing energy soon, and Snafu could certainly benefit from it. From his new position, he unleashes another blinding ray at the lobster.
Zeoll believes the icicle to be a spell like ability granted by the clerical 'Water' domain. They could still have a number of those up their sleeves. Whatsmore, given the power of the icicle and the spells that have been cast so far, it is a fair bet that these seaspawn have more spells at their disposal. Perhaps they cast them before combat? Perhaps they rely on very close combat to cast?
But the taur is conflicted. He needs to help Coer, but every time he does so he also heals the lobster! Throwing caution to the wind, Zeoll unleashes his energy channel (Coer, Snafu, Mojo, Zeoll, Sam and Lobster 3 are healed for 14hp)
Zeoll isn't quite sure where that invisible leprechaun has gone, but he must be here somewhere...
Coer lies on the sand drooling (OOC: Sent you an email. Zeoll healed Coer and he can act normally if he chooses. Note you provoke an AoO from L4 if you choose to stand up)
The enemy act...
Lobster 3 is blind! It can't see anyone nearby, so it readies itself to attack into the nearest square it can hear something. It lashes out at the Red Cap at AE28 (D12=11. There are 11 squares occupied around the lobster, so #11 is at AE28. Will Save vs DC20: 16=Fail again!)
Lobster 4, isn't. It attacks the Red Cap between it and Coer, and seems to realise something is 'up' (Will Save vs DC20: 20 = Pass!). It edges closer to Coer.
Seaspawn 7 fires an icicle at a nearby Red Cap and now comes to the same realisation that the other seaspawn has.
Seaspawn 8 - with no other target in range - fires an icicle at Coer! (Coer takes 9pts damage!)

Aex begins to panic. Has she done something wrong? Is this how she IS destined to look? Or WAS destined to look? Where is everyone else? The trees she once looked to for solitude have taken that desire to the extreme. All alone. Isolated. With nothing around but the trees.
-------------------
Coer finds the ground beneath him about as stable as the deck of the Lionfish in a squall. He goes down fighting, attempting a stunning fist on the lobster. His blow connects, but the lobster is not stunned (Last rounds attack by Coer applied. Fort save vs DC15: 20=Pass) He hits the dirt once more, where his body has the presence to stabilise.
Snafu takes a moment to let the healing flow. Perhaps getting a little too comfortable with it? He brings himself back to the present, and blinds the lobster once more.
Zeoll begs the leprechaun to do something. What did it do while invisible? In the mean time, he backs up some more and begins to summon additional help.
Terser moves around the corner and can now see the commotion. Red Caps everywhere. (Terser, even if you believe you know, please make a Will Save vs DC20. If you believe the Red Caps to be real, you cannot end your turn in their square. If you pass your save, your action can happen as planned)
Even Jozhur is having difficulty striking a target! His aim is fair, but the shell of the lobster is just too strong!
Magana does her best to make sure that she leaves something behind on this island, as her blood stains the ground.
The leprechaun appears next to the blind lobster (his stealth check of 39 can't be beaten by the blind lobster's perception). "Who went and made this critter blind now? Ruined my plan!" Header correction
Zeoll's spell brings forth - oh no - an evil mite! (Ah ha! = Summon Fey Friend)
Realising the evil nature of the fey, and that it will twist his words, Zeoll tries to be as specific as he can. Attack the lobsters! Just the lobsters!
The mite grins as it finds the loophole it was looking for, and shoots a dart directly at one of the lobsters! The dart hits perfectly - however, since the mite targetted one of the lobsters that had already been killed, the dart makes no difference. The mite looks innocently to Zeoll.
Zeoll begins casting the spell again - hopefully with a better result.
The leprechaun tries to cast a spell defensively, however he is unable to maintain his concentration and loses the spell! (Concentration check: 14 = Fail!). With a worried look he backs up a few steps.
Terser steps closer to the lobster in order to jab at the seaspawn, and does so with great effect. However the seaspawn was stunned last round, and the leprechaun failed to stun it again this round.
Jozhur pops out to take another pot shot at lobster #3, but the lobster has keen sight and has begun to predict the rogue's movement(Perception check vs DC23: 24 = Pass!)
Sam makes it to Magana and once again pulls her away from Gargul's grasp.
Snafu continues his relentless assault on blinding the enemy. But with everyone else targetting lobster #3, perhaps his ray was wasted.
And Coer? Well, Coer still draws breath. His body is battered, his blood has been spilt, but he still draws breath.
The enemy act...
Lobster #3 attacks Terser with both claws, yet both miss! (Hit AC14 & AC18 - Both miss!)
Lobster #4 is blinded, but prepares to attack anything that gets too close to it!
Seaspawn 7 has Terser striking at it. It prepares its rapier to defend itself (Total defense: seaspawn 7 gets +4 dodge bonus to next round)
Seaspawn 8 scratches its chin as if it has forgotten something. Then it occurs to it! Another bolt of lightning from the sky, and once more at Snafu and Mojo! [OOC: Thanks for the link, clever DM Rob!]
Zeoll's next Summon Fey Friend calls forth, by the grace of the Fey King, a ... another Mite! Thanks, oh my king, thinks Zeoll.
"You Mites!" calls out Zeoll, in sylvan, "Please attack the living lobsters, only those lobsters, and nothing else! Please do not harm me or my friends! Thank you, in the name of the King!"
And since the spell is about to release the leprechaun, Zeoll calls out to it, also in sylvan, "Thanks to you, Sir Leprechaun! I, Zeoll, once a student to Shaman Frith, a former warrior to Pride Nonowla-That-Is-No-More, and long-lost son to Clan Aene, Chosen by Domi in years long flown, Enemy of Marteaus, retired Iron Adventurer of Hook City, now a humble Servant of Queen Maab, and Cradled by the Fey King, owes you a favor!"
Then Zeoll casts his last sorcerer spell -- Another Summon Fey Friend!

Coer successfully maintains his lack of consciousness
Aex comes to the rational conclusion that panicking will get her nowhere. She decides to peer into the pool of blood (?) and search for answers. Now that she concentrates she can make out more than one reflection - or image - in the pool. She sees herself aged, in the background she sees herself as a child playing happily in fields, to the side she sees herself shapeshifting and fighting in Gullport. The more Aex stares, the more images of her life come into view. And what's more, images that may yet to be. An aged Aexana sitting outside a small cottage in the woods. A not so aged Aexana clinging to the ropes of the Lionfish and sailing the many seas and oceans of the Wold.
The question though - is what does Aex make of this? Does she view her life - as short as it was - with pride? With regret?
Aex Highlight to display spoiler: {Gargul will be answering your request, but that will have to wait until combat is over. Until then, I will try and give Aex some things to ponder and work through}
------------------------------
Zeoll rephrases his request, hoping the mites will not find another loophole with which to turn his words.
Snafu and Mojo both deftly lean aside to let the bulk of the lightning blast hit the rooftop at their feet. Snafu casts his last blinding ray of the day, and fortunately it strikes true (You didn't specify a target so I will assume Lobster 3 - which then aids Terser and the Leprechaun)
Jozhur shot is fair, but not fair enough. The arrow glances off the lobsters hard shell.
Magana takes a moment to top up her strength with a potion. There are no enemies in sight, so now is as safe a time as any.
Sam aids Magana some more. What better defence (or offence?) is a healthy, angry taur on your side?
Coer maintains his steady breathing, oblivious to the danger that surrounds him.
The first mite reluctantly fires a dart at the blinded lobster - with amazing accuracy (Hit AC22 - Nat20, failed to confirm crit with 18. Lobster 3 takes 2pts damage!)
The second mite isn't nearly as accurate. Perhaps his heart just isn't in it (Hit AC11 - Miss!)
With the lobster blinded, the leprechaun takes his chances and casts a colour spray. Since the lobster is blind, only the seaspawn can be affected - and he is (Will Save vs DC14 - 9 = Fail! Seaspawn 7 is stunned!)
The stunned seaspawn drops its rapier, and is now practically defenseless to Terser's strike!
With his deed done, the leprechaun can now hear Zeoll give him a thanks and a farewell. The leprechaun sighs, and drops something to the ground before he vanishes. By all accounts, it looks like the headband Zeoll took off and dropped to the ground earlier. That sneaky little leprechaun...
With the disappearance of the leprechaun, the illusory red caps also vanish.
The enemy act...
Lobster 3 is blind, but knows Terser is standing nearby. Those pesky Red Caps have gone so it only has one target to attack - two if you think it would be cruel enough to finish off Coer. But even a mindless creature knows the biggest threat is the target still moving. It lashes out blindly at Terser! (Miss chance 50%: 81 & 99 - Both successful. Hit AC24 & Miss AC11. Free grapple attempt: 20 = Nat 1. Terser takes 15pts damage!)
Lobster 4 approaches Terser now from the side. It's claw though fortunately misses him this time (Hit AC19 = Miss!)
Seaspawn 7 is stunned by the light display of the now departed Leprechaun.
Seaspawn 8 though still has his senses. And from his new position can target any number of foes. The big linotaur, for example, looks a nice target. And he does seem to be concentrating on casting a spell. A bolt of lightning from the sky lands directly on Zeoll! (Zeoll to make a Ref save vs DC16 or take 14pts electric damage! Pass your save and you take half-damage).

Snafu couldn't muster the power to generate another blinding ray and he was virtually out of offensive magic. Yet, he had to find a way to help Terser.
With no other options Snafu and Mojo flew down to ground level and faced the nearest lobster and Seaspawn. "Looks like lobster is on the menu boys!" Snafu said as he raised his hands as if he was going to cast another blinding ray.
'Take the bait' Snafu hoped, for if the creature charged it might leave itself vulnerable. More importantly it would buy Terser time, and potentially bring the enemy closer to Magana. It was almost enough to make Snafu feel sorry for their enemy. Almost, but not quite.

"Excellent work, Mites," says Zeoll. "Do the exact same thing again."
Reflex saving throw is 11 ... failure! He takes 14 electrical and his spell is ... ruined?
Concentration check 12. Yup, ruined.
Zeoll moves to AQ24 and channels energy, healing himself, Magana, and Sam for 9 hp healing!
Terser springs into action, jabbing at the seaspawn. Though it was stunned last round, it has regained its senses for this round and is able to deflect Terser's blow. The approach of the other caster sees Terser sidestep to get closer to him (Note that you are 15ft from the caster. Per the rules, every other diagonal square counts as 2x)
Jozhur is far more accurate this round, his arrow finding a definite weakspot in the lobster's armor.
Snafu decides now is the time to act as bait, hopefully drawing the enemy to him and away from the injured people who tried to save him. Unfortunately the lobsters are quite mindless. He would need to be closer than anyone else to really be viable bait.
Magana rejoins the battle! She makes her way across the battlefield, pausing to stand beside Aexana's corpse. In all the action, Magana missed the fact that the gnome had been slain!
Sam stays at Magana's side, his inspiring words ringing loud in her ears (You didn't specify a position on the map, so I just assumed next to Magana)
Coer's mind wanders, and he finds himself dreaming of the days he would spar with his master.
Zeoll loses his spell, but bids the mites continue their work. He maintains his composure, and waits until Magana and Sam are close enough to benefit from some channeled energy.
The mites reluctantly do as ordered and target the lobster's again, but both miss their mark by a lot. (Hit AC3 & AC16 - Both miss!)
Lobster 3 is no longer blind! It can clearly see Terser now, but it's claws do not connect with the dwarf (Hit AC17 & AC10 - Both miss!)
Lobster 4 though can see Terser AND can strike him (Hit AC21 & Miss AC19. Free grapple: 25=Pass. Terser takes 14pts damage and is grappled!)
Seaspawn 7 fires an icicle from his finger tips at the grappled Terser! (Touch attack hit AC12. Terser has AC14, but with the -4 Dex penalty from being grappled, I think AC12 is a hit. Terser takes 5pts cold damage!)
Seaspawn 8 has lost sight of the tricky linotaur. But now it has a nice little dwarf approaching it. It calls down a bolt of lightning directly atop Terser (Terser takes 12pts electric damage. Ref Save vs DC16 for half. Note the -4 Dex from being grappled)
Jeff L Snafu HP 26/53, ÀÇ 20(T16, FF 17), CMD 16, mirror image 4 images Tuesday November 11th, 2014 9:10:10 AM
Snafu's attempt to lure the creature out failed, and Terser paid the price. How much more could the Dwarf endure?
As Snafu pondered that question he heard Sam's song, and he turned to see a charging Magana. She was a ghostly shade of white and covered in vomit and blood. How was she still standing? Who were these gifts from the Gods that Snafu would now call his allies.
Without thinking Snafu yelped "charge!" and he and Mojo closed to within a few feet of the grappled lobster. Once there Mojo opened his mouth and sent a cone of dust at the lobster and his rider, while Mojo started casting. A moment later an explosion of bright lights and color enveloped the enemy.

DM RobC - Seaspawn Combat - Time to take toll Wednesday November 12th, 2014 6:04:50 AM OOC: Based on posts from the past few days, I'm going to assume that interest in this combat has waned. If the game isn't fun for you, then I need to do something, so....
It takes a great effort - the party start to finally work together as a team. Casters and archers combine with the brute force of the muscular warriors.
Seconds seem like hours. Who knows how long this battle went for, but at the end of the day the party are victorious.
As the last enemy falls, exhaustion sets in and the weight of your limbs and equipment feels all the more great. The spells that were cast and maintained also take a mental toll. Sam's voice begins to grow hoarse just from singing songs for so long.
Coer's body lies unconscious, bleeding but stable.
Aexana's on the other hand is lifeless.
As for the enemy, well, 8 seaspawn, 4 coral golems, and 4 huge lobsters. All dead. Not a bad day of hunting.
For the moment, the town is quiet.

IC: Snafu collapsed with exhaustion when the battle was finally over. He had drawn almost every drop of magical energy he had stored, and spilled a bit of life blood as well. His body yearned for rest.
But what if there was another wave of attacks? This thought got Snafu back up on his feet and into the air. He needed to let the healers heal, while he scouted.
"I'm going to scout the perimeter. Make sure more enemies don't surprise us. We need to attend the fallen, search the enemy and move on before we are discovered. I'm not sure we'd survive another attack today."

(ooc: I was fine with the way the battle was proceeding also)
As the last enemy is slain, Magana falls to her knees, exhausted and breathing raggedly. She is fairly sure she's never had to push herself this hard in battle her entire life.
After a few minutes, she pushes herself back to her feet and begins to patrol the perimeter around her surviving comrades, watching for a new attack.

He then gets to Terser's side and taps him also. (13 hp healed on Terser with a rerolled 1)
With Terse and the captain alive (barely), Sam passes the wand back to Magana. He finds himself at the fallen Aexana. The gnome kneels next to the Druid and gingerly runs his fingers through her hair. He notices the shell bracelet that he had given her and how happy she was to get it. He knows what must be done, but fears the consequences of petitioning Gargul.
"We have to bring her back. Let's take her into one of these huts and beg Gargul for her life."

Taking a head count he finally kneels beside the fallen body of Aexana. "We will bring her back if we can. Gargul does not bargain cheaply."

DM RobC - Seaspawn Combat - Time to take toll Thursday November 13th, 2014 4:35:07 AM
Aex feels herself at peace and at calm amongst these trees. Leaving this area could be difficult. She feels almost at home. As if this is where she was meant to be.
Snafu and Mojo set to securing the environment. Two waves of enemies could just be a scouting party. And when they fail to check in - whenever that might be - more could be on the way.
Terser is swiftly brought back from near-death by a touch of timely healing from Sam.
Magana is thoroughly exhausted. Never has she battled so hard. Had she died this day she is certain Gargul would have embraced her and welcomed her to a glorious afterlife. But now is not the time for daydreams. She joins Snafu in establishing a perimeter.
Sam heals the dying and barely living, before coming to terms with Aexana's fate. She is with Gargul now. It's possible that the God could be petitioned to see her return to this realm. But at what cost? Sam suggests taking Aexana into a nearby building to perform the ritual. Hopefully someone here has a spell or means of raising the dead.
Coer rises, but as he rises his head falls. One of the crew has passed on. Gargul can be merciful, but alas, he holds all the cards.
Jozhur maintains control of his emotions - outwardly at least. He searches the seaspawn, and lays anything that may be of value out for the party to see. Alas, there are no notes or documents that may give insight into the enemies actions.
Zeoll casts Detect Magic, and is almost blinded by the sheer number of magical auras in the area. Not only are there fading magical auras on the seaspawn and lobsters, but practically everything that Jozhur stripped from the seaspawn radiates magical energy:
1 x Trident 5 x Rapiers 1 x Flail 1 x Bastard Sword 1 x Amulet 1 x Pair of Boots 1 x Brooch 1 x Set of Chimes 1 x Cloak 1 x Small bag of dust 1 x Small token of a Tree 1 x Pair of GLoves 1 x Hat 1 x Horn 1 x Incense Stick 1 x Necklace 1 x Ring 1 x Rope 1 x Pair of Slippers 1 x Jar of liquid 3 x Scrolls (yes, all of this is magical)
In addition, Jozhur and Zeoll are able to pry a small pile of pearls from the coral golem remains. An appraise check may give a better idea on the value.

Although she had heard her companions talk about doing such in the past, she had assumed this was figurative, not a literal process.
Sorely she is tempted to follow Coer and learn how he might entreat Gargul, but sticks to her duty of guarding the living.
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC18 - HP 45 of 45) Thursday November 13th, 2014 3:02:02 PM
OOC: Zeoll nets a 20 with spellcraft taking 10 with Detect Magic and Guidance cantrips.
Zeoll helps to figure out what magic the group has gained. He picks up the Wisdom headband he had dropped, and stows it away.
He too is cautious and wonders if the party will encounter the sea god itself, or if Ga'al will return.
OOC: After all, the module is named "Gods Among Men" -- that's godS plural. We can expect at least one more god, right? :-)
Magana (Craig) [HP 54 of 81] [DR 1/-] Thursday November 13th, 2014 3:32:06 PM
(ooc: Cayzle: Jozhur already picked up the headband and is playing a game of hide and seek with Zeoll regarding it. Perhaps Zeoll's vision is so bad that he picked up a chunk of seaweed and placed it on his head? lol )
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC18 - HP 45 of 45) Thursday November 13th, 2014 3:58:46 PM
Zeoll looks around. He saw that headband when the leprechaun dropped it. Did the rogue pick it up again when he was not looking?
Those tricksy fey.
Well, the one he is wearing now to boost his healing is maybe better.
(Brock) Jozhur AC20/15/15--CMD 20--HP 9/55 d20+6=14 ; Thursday November 13th, 2014 4:21:19 PM
Jozhur looks over the pearls, "These seem valuable." (Appraise: 14)
Unable to torment Zeoll for long, Jozhur hands over the headband when he sees the Taur searching for it.
"So can perform a ritual to let us speak with Gargul?"
Terser (Warren G) [22/13/19 -- CMD 23 -- HP 24/78] d20+2=10 ; Thursday November 13th, 2014 4:47:55 PM Appraise 10, Spellcraft 0Oooo shiny baubles. Aren't those of some use when petitioning to raise the dead? Terser gasps for air between overexerting himself and almost dying. There are a few new scars to add to the collection. When Sam goes to find some way to petition Gargul, Terser picks himself and stands guard, in case any unexpected enemies should present themselves. Do try to be more respectful to Lord Gargul this time, Sam. Aexana wouldn't want any others to suffer on her behalf any more than I did.
The battle itself was great - though I agree with Sam. There's only so many ways one can run around and hit things. Also some confusion about timing on stuns and such. They lost actions, yes, but the AC penalties never seemed to apply. Just think it could use some clarification.
Also I agree with Warren. The combat was a good challenge, but the way stuns and such worked was odd. Lack of initiate rolls is going to make things different, but it seems it would be simpler to have the stun or whatever be in effect starting with the next DM post, so we have a chance to know if the enemy made the save or not an d we can act accordingly.
I don't like posting a bunch of conditions for my characters actions, such as if E1 fails his save, attack it, if not move to X, stealth check and attack E2.
Otherwise, I had no issues with it.
Coerator (Mark) -- MAGE ARMOR AC21 (AC17/16/14) -- CMD 23 -- HP 18/80 (Ki 2/7) Friday November 14th, 2014 3:07:18 AM
After laying Aex in a bed Coer exits the hut to speak with his friends. His head hangs low and is visibly upset.
"I have only ever seen an audience with Gargul granted by using a scroll. Is there another way - that we can seek him out?"
DM RobC - Seaspawn Combat - Time to take toll Friday November 14th, 2014 6:56:14 AM
Sam is the first to try to attempt to identify the items. He identifies the following: 4 x +1 Rapiers 1 x +1 Adamantine Flail 1 x Amulet of Natural Armor +2 1 x Boots of the Winterlands 1 x Brooch of Shielding 1 x Gloves of Swimming and Climbing 1 x Hat of Disguise 1 x Horn of Fog 1 x Periapt of Health 1 x Rope of Climbing 1 x Slippers of Spider Climbing 3 x Scrolls of Raise Dead
Sam is unable to identify the following items (with a 20 on a Spellcraft check), however someone else may try to identify them today: 1 x Trident 1 x Rapier 1 x Bastard Sword 1 x Set of Chimes 1 x Cloak 1 x Small bag of dust 1 x Small token of a Tree 1 x Incense Stick 1 x Ring 1 x Jar of liquid
Magana has heard of people speaking with Gargul before, but never face to face. Could she (would she?) dare look upon the face of her god?
Zeoll looks - and eventually finds - his headband. If it isn't leprechauns it's rogues. Everyone has sticky fingers.
Jozhur does his best to appraise the pile of pearls. Truly a worthy haul. There must be at least 6000gp worth of pearls there!
Coer sees that Aex is laid carefully in a bed. The gnome's lifeless body has started to grow cold. His prayers may have been answered, in that not one, but three scrolls have been found that may serve the purpose of raising Aexana from the beyond. Of course, then there is the matter of bargaining with Gargul. One hopes he will be in a good mood.
Terser cautions Sam to be on best behaviour when they / if they meet Gargul again.
-------------------------------- OOC: Folks, feel free to try and identify the remaining items if you can. Otherwise I'd really like to encourage you to get cracking on resurrecting Aexana. Steven VdB has been on the sidelines for a while now so let's get him back in the party :)
Jeff L Snafu HP 39/53, ÀÇ 20(T16, FF 17), CMD 16, mirror image 4 images Friday November 14th, 2014 7:54:38 AM
OOC: sorry I missed yesterday.
Snafu had been scouting when he caught sight of the pile of booty. "Wowsa! That's quite a haul. Let's go take a closer look. Or better yet, how about I take a closer look while you maintain the perimeter." Mojo obeyed reluctantly, for he loved shiny stuff.
OOC: Snafu has an 18 spellcraft, so I can get a 28 when taking ten.
DM RobC - Seaspawn Combat - Time to take toll Friday November 14th, 2014 8:18:25 AM OOC: With Snafu's identification, you are able to discern the following items: 1 x Trident of Warning 1 x +1 Keen Rapier 1 x +2 Bastard Sword 1 x Chime of Opening 1 x Cloak of the Manta Ray 1 x Dust of Dryness 1 x Feather Token - Tree 1 x Incense of Meditation 1 x Ring of the Ram
However, still to be identified is the mysterious: 1 x Jar of liquid
(StevenVdB) Aexana DEAD Friday November 14th, 2014 8:37:59 AM
Not sure Aex qualifies for the Xp reward as she euhm... Didn't quite survive the battle...
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to meet Gargul... Nervous perhaps...
Alone in the forest Aex has a day-dream... She sees herself in a diminuitive animal shape on Magana's back... helping the tank with spells and throwing around lightning on her own.
"Wouldn't that be something! I would be able to heal, buff and attack while benefitting from concealment...
What do you guys think? ...
...
Where is everybody?!"
Sam (David W): 14/12/13 -- CMD 14 -- HP 32/48 Friday November 14th, 2014 1:55:02 PM
Sam solemnly names the items he can. The battle's story repeats over and over in his mind. He questions himself and his actions. Could he, a tiny bard, have saved Aexana. With Terser's warning in mind, Sam's heart fills with dread. Gargul punished him once. It pretty much broke him. What will Gargul say to him this time. Does a god get so busy that he forgets transgressions?
Sam takes his place at Aexanna's side. He sits on his knees and prepares to start a petition to Gargul for his pricely, but worthwhile gift...if the gift is chosen to be given.
Magana (Craig) [HP 54 of 81] [DR 1/-] Friday November 14th, 2014 2:06:06 PM
Magana responds to Coer with an uncertain tone of voice. "I will lend my prayers if you think it will help but I, too, have no idea how to bargain directly with the God of Death."
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC18 - HP 45 of 45) d20+10=22 ; Friday November 14th, 2014 5:58:20 PM
Zeoll tries to ID the jar ... a 22?
He tells Magana and the group that usually a Raise Dead spell cast on the corpse will open a gate to Gargul's Realm. From there, all will have a chance to enter, meet the god of death, and bargain or plea for the return of Aexana.
"But it does not always worrk that way," Zeoll says. "I myself did not so much barrgain as I was given a quest by the god, yearrs ago when I came back. And my frriends werre not therre. Also, I have hearrd that sometimes otherr spells will suffice to open the gate. We can trry otherrs. Let me sleep on it and I will seek guidance."
That night, Zeoll seeks to divine in his dreams the best way to reach out to Gargul to ask for a favor.
Terser (Warren G) [22/13/19 -- CMD 23 -- HP 24/78] Friday November 14th, 2014 9:44:15 PM
Terser prepares himself to plea for Aexana's life. He also carefully studies the ritual needed to raise her, striving to learn some bit of magic so that he can better utilize his own growing powers.
Jeff L Snafu HP 39/53, ÀÇ 20(T16, FF 17), CMD 16, mirror image 4 images Saturday November 15th, 2014 8:45:53 AM
"I will study this jar later. Sam, perhaps you can inspire me to do'a more complete investigation?"
Mojo remembered the net that he thew early in the battle and went to retrieve it. After that, he would focus on scouting the area from the most suitable vantage point. Perhaps one of the rooftops?
Coerator (Mark) -- MAGE ARMOR AC21 (AC17/16/14) -- CMD 23 -- HP 18/80 (Ki 2/7) Sunday November 16th, 2014 1:26:58 AM
Coer hears the news that a scroll has been discovered that may allow an interaction with Gargul and smiles for a moment.
"There is hope then." he says before walking off, his brow furrowed, mulling over something.
As he wanders he collects his crossbow from the dust
(Brock) Jozhur AC20/15/15--CMD 20--HP 22/55 d20+10=15 ; Monday November 17th, 2014 2:27:03 AM
Jozhur looks over the loot with his mouth ajar. "This is all magical?"
I've met with Gargul a couple times. He seems very literal, choose your words wisely, he will hold you to your promises. I'll keep an eye out, call for me when the ritual begins."
He climbs back onto the same roof he had fought from and sits with his bow in his lap, wondering if he should put more stock in archery...it just seems so much safer. (Perception: 15)
DM RobC - Ready to raise the dead? Monday November 17th, 2014 4:15:23 AM
Where is everybody? That is the question most pertinent to Aexana right now. Not just where are the crew of the Lionfish, but where is everyone else? Where is anybody else? Is she all alone? Is she in limbo, destined to walk the Wold until she has some sort of major epiphany?
The crew look ready to perform the ritual at Aexana's bedside here and now.
Coer is hopeful. The means to a resurrection have been found. But that is only half of the battle. Bargaining with Gargul is no easy feat. And one must have something to offer.
Sam has taken his place by her side, and Magana has offered to lend her prayers. Perhaps Gargul will look kindly if one of his followers are present?
Terser is steady, and ready to begin the ritual/pleading also.
Jozhur climbs back onto the familiar rooftop and readies himself for further trouble.
Snafu determines that he will examine the strange jar and its contents later. He too takes a rooftop position to keep an eye out.
Zeoll is the only one who wishes to wait. The taur is not willing to trust his instincts on this, and would rather the divine voices who guide him offer their counsel.
----------------------- OOC: Folks, please discuss amongst yourself about how/when you wish to proceed. If you wish to risk waiting until the next day, I will need your watch order as well as where you will position yourselves about the town
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC18 - HP 45 of 45) Monday November 17th, 2014 11:18:14 AM
Zeoll worries about using a scroll that is too powerful for the party to read. "I can give it a trry," he says, "But I worry about backfirre. That's one rreason I wanted to seek guidance overrnight. But maybe it would be wiserr to hurrry?"
Zeoll will go along with whatever the group consensus is. [OOC: At CL6, Zeoll may make a mistake reading the CL9+ scroll. Kindly DM Rob, what's the CL on those scrolls?]
Terser (Warren G) [22/13/19 -- CMD 23 -- HP 24/78] Monday November 17th, 2014 12:26:30 PM Don't worry, old man. You're wise enough to use any magic if you set your mind to it. Just be confident!
(StevenVdB) Aexana DEAD Monday November 17th, 2014 5:39:36 PM
Slowly images begin to return to Aex's memory... she sees giant crabs... her friens all bloody and battered... she hovers high above the fight... then suddenly she fails a burning pain! The ground rapidly closes in on here!!
WHAM
then nothing... She's back in the forest...
"I died?! "
Magana (Craig) [HP 54 of 81] [DR 1/-] Monday November 17th, 2014 5:54:16 PM
Magana takes it upon herself to speak as a student of Gargul's philosophy. "Gargul would want us to face the death of our comrade without fear. I can only assume her possible return to life should be faced without fear as well. Let us then proceed immediately, without hesitation or misgivings."

DM RobC - Ready to raise the dead? Monday November 17th, 2014 11:42:09 PM OOC: The scrolls are of the 5th level cleric spell "Raise Dead" at CL9. So Zeoll would have to make a Caster Level check of DC10 to cast the spell from a scroll. And there are three scrolls, so failing on 1 would mean 2 more opportunities. Failing using those, do the party have any other way to contact Gargul?
