Welcome to the game board! Go ahead and make a couple of test posts. Try the die roller.
Our game boards support some limited markups that are similar to (but not exactly like) HTML tags. Tags for the Wold go inside square brackets like this: [command]
Putting a b (in square brackets) before some text and a /b (in square brackets) after the text makes the text bold.
This is bold text.
Using i and /i makes the text italic.
This is italic text.
Go ahead and play with those (and the die roller, as mentioned previously), and then I'll have more tricks you can try!

And feel free to move your character discussions here. Kathy will start a new module and scene when she is ready to begin. :) She'll give yo more instructions with all of that. She may choose to delete all those OOC discussions once they are concluded. Her choice. :)
Follow her lead. Let us know if you have any questions with the board. :)
She will also help you with things such as how we format posts, where we list hit points, how to link to your character sheets and how she wants all of that to look. :) She has already covered some of that above. Enjoy! Experiment and get comfortable.
I suggest reading one or two other games to get an idea of what is a good post, the different styles of posting that differing players use, etc. I especially suggest looking at Agents of the Fist as a good example of great posting.
Kathy may have other places she'd like you to visit. ;)

I'm not going to lie, i'm getting really excited for this. However, I always thought of Batman as a Neutral Good. Sometimes even Chaotic. He does seem to take Justice into his own hands at times.

OOC: okay Briton, how did you get a link to work?
DM Kathy Sunday November 16th, 2014 4:22:59 PM
Okay, here are some more fun things to try. Another tag we use is for spoiler text. This is text that isn't immediately visible, but becomes visible when highlighted. It's most commonly used by DMs, but players can use it, too.
To create spoiler text, use spoiler and /spoiler inside your square brackets.
For example, anyone who succeeds on a DC 13 Perception check Highlight to display spoiler: {there's an owlbear sneaking up behind you!}
And then there is the link tag, which Briton has already figured out. The tag for the link is: link href="SomeLink.com" and then /link afterwards. Obviously, inside square brackets.
For example, here is a link to one of my characters.
And, now that you're all such good posters, be sure to drop by the loot-&-booty inn. The L&B is our OOC hangout, where you can chat about whatever and roll for a lotto prize. You can get to the L&B from any page on the Wold; scroll to the top of the page, and click the L&B button right under the Wold logo.
Hugh Crosmun (Soon to be Toston Lotor - CMTC) d20+9=28 ; d20+3=9 ; d20+3=14 ; d4=1 ; d4=1 ; d20+6=11 ; d4=4 ; Sunday November 16th, 2014 5:41:32 PM
(OOC: okay hoping I got the link thing working. Anyway I totally beat that DC 13 perception check. )
If the owl bear is within a 5 foot step of Toston, he turns, takes a 5-ft steap and attempts to flurry of blows against the owl bear. The first strike, a punch, most likely goes wide (9) The second strike (14) a knee probably also fails to connect. If by some luck the punch or knee actually land the force is mostly absorbed by the owlbear's tough hide (1) (1).
If the owlbear is greater than 5 ft but less than 40 ft away, Toston charges towards the owlbear, attempting a stunning fist (DC 14 if 1/2 of 1 is rounded up to 1 or 13 if 1/2 of 1 is rounded down to 0 fort save) The strike w/ the stunning fist also most likely fails to land against the owlbear (11). If 11 is enough to land a blow as solid a hit as Toston can make aside from a critical slams into the owlbear's face.

Exactly, how do you make it so the link appears shorter?

For those of you who have characters (more or less) finished, you might want to stop by the Giggling Ghost.
It's a little quiet now, but in a couple of weeks they'll start holiday festivities there. The Ghost is a companion of sorts to the L&B. The L&B is out-of-character, while the Ghost is in-character. It takes place in a sort of dream, so your character can simultaneously be there and in your regular game. Your character can interact with other characters from your game, and from other games.

Toston sits bolt upright in bed realizing he had a weird dream about an owlbear sneaking up behind him and then madly deciding to either punch it repeatedly or charge it. What madness gets into my sleeping self? Toston shakes his head and then lays on his side, drifting back off to sleep...

OOC: All right! Those work. I'll do the rest later but since I've been working through the night (I tend to work the occasional night shift) the time is not now.
In the meantime hows the party looking? I noticed the monk with Sorcerer Favored class (I presume multiclassing is in the foreseeable future), a bard, and a rogue. Do we have any other contending character concepts?
Also I recall in a 3.5 game manual (I believe it was Exalted Deeds but I'm not certain) the authors utilize Batman as an example of Lawful Good. Yes he does break the law insofar as he is a vigilante BUT he holds himself to a strict moral code and always tries to bring the guilty to the legal authorities.
As my own two cents of extrapolation a strict code and discipline is exactly why monks have to be lawful. Its not about morals with them but discipline unlike with Paladins where its all about morals. Ergo you can be lawful without actually respecting authorities (devils do it all the time) as long as there is some form of order that you adhere to. In many ways the axis of Law vs. Chaos and Good vs. Evil is a matter of perspective and the only way you can honestly interpret it is by a predominant factor of what is most important to a character and why. Naturally this spurs on a huge debate of elemental alignment and subjective alignment. This all could be reduced to a matter of semantics, however. To reference Exalted Deeds again they found a way to measure it wonderfully. Basically by the 3.5 system the universe does not inherently care about circumstance a bad deed and a good deed are weighed separately such as in the great 'sacrifice one for the many' debate. So objectively the action is both good and evil but after the scales are balanced the many will ultimately outweigh the few. That is elemental vs. subjective alignment in a nutshell if you ask me.
The reason I go into this is to try to clarify that yes Batman does break some minor laws but only in his attempt to uphold greater laws. The same rules apply. Yes he performs a chaotic act but in the pursuit of a lawful goal which is more important. Don't get me wrong though, he still can't qualify to be a paladin. He's missing the whole chivalry bit along with a good dose of faith and an iota of a few other things. Viel Spass!
Toston Lotor? - CMTC Sunday November 23rd, 2014 8:47:47 PM
OOC @ TK yes there is a tentative monk that wants to multiclass into sorcerer with aspirations of going Dragon Disciple (if that gets approved) however I created a Cleric of Gargul that I would go Undead Hunter with that I kind of like his backstory...gah
Gilmek (Briton) Monday November 24th, 2014 2:02:21 AM
OOC: @ Toston
I might be new to this, but I'd go with whatever you think will be the most fun to work with. I actually started creating a cleric character, but then stopped cause i realized with a bard, I could potentially have a character who is a bit more 'goofy' at times
TK (The Unnamed) Monday November 24th, 2014 5:01:59 AM
Goofy huh?
At the current moment we seem to be short one tank and one full-measure caster. Gilmek appears to have apt support and some spellcasting, the monk would be good on the front lines but not alone, the rogue... Well I can't say for certain but the rogue has enough ranged weaponry for half a party so I presume more of a skirmisher style.
I'll be throwing a pitch toward Kathy within the next twenty-four, to be sure.
Toston Lotor? - CMTC Monday November 24th, 2014 5:28:24 AM
OOC: The problem is they both have their strengths and weaknesses. The cool thing about Hevik is is that he is a cleric and one of Gargul but as a young Dwarf he did something to disappoint Gargul and pretty much feels he needs to atone for that hence wanting to kill all the undead he can. Not sure if he already atoned or not as he spent 37 years doing menial labor for the Black Cathedral before he was allowed to train to be a cleric but if someone dies I imagine he would have an interesting time going before Gargul.
Toston on the other hand, is more of a concept character and he will get better through leveling. As a low level monk, he has some pluses and some minuses. His plus, he has a relatively high AC and a relatively high bonus to hit. His negative he doesn't do as much damage as a medium character would nor does he have a strength bonus to apply to damage so whenever he hits he will only do d4s. He also only has 9 hp with a +1 con bonus and he won't get favored class hp bonus until I start taking sorcerer levels, which I wasn't planning to do right away. Hevik actually has a higher AC, more HP and can do more damage. Plus he can heal people. He isn't as good at hitting things however.

OOC: Sorry for the delays. I have more or less settled on Avin Fellows, transmuter. Attempting to link current draft of the character sheet. I need to retool his spell section and fill out his history section. It exists, it simply hasn't been typed properly.
Toston Lotor? - CMTC Saturday November 29th, 2014 7:51:36 AM
(OOC: I was actually considering going Transmuter at one point...lol...I have been doing a lot with Toston on the Giggling Ghost and I my still end up using him even if we don't have a Cleric I mean Briton is right, if we get Glimek a wand of cure light we are technically set in the short term and in the long term well we will think f something right? I mean we could all get matching Brahmah tatoos with cure light, cure moderate, and cure serious. Alternatively we could invest heavily in potions. One of the 2nd level spells I am looking at potentially taking as Toston once I start going Sorcerer / Dragon Disciple (if that gets approved) is false life but I am not sure about that one. I guess if we need Toston to do more damage or get sneakier we could have Avin shrink him or enlarge him. At tiny size Toston would have +15 to stealth and at medium size toston would then do d6+1s but I would go down to +2 to hit since I would lose my size bonus and my dex would go down.
