Carver instead of being affected by the debilitating spell of the vegepygmy caster feels a surge of adrenaline and stomps and attack with devastating effect, deeply cutting the prone enemy in front of Zee and stomping on the charging enemy at his feet. They keep fighting but in a much worse shape than before.
Mack moves to flank another enemy, but provokes an attack of opportunity in the process. But the small creature is more worried in beign surrounded, and miss him. But even while it misses Mack manages to connect a hit on him, with the real effect that it distracts him.
And that distraction is used by Cameron, which uses his whip to disarm the growling (and now disarmed) creature.
The furious vegepygmy starts casting a spell, a glow growing in it's hands. The hands keep moving for a second even after Atlas cuts it's head, so the spell keeps unfinished, with the creature dead at your feet.
Irdalas moves ahead (thanks David F) and shoots at the enemy threatening Zee. But the prone creature is very hard to hit, and the arrows hit the ground next to it, without hurting it.
Crosseye worries for Carver, he draws the healing wand and while holding his axe in one hand uses the other to heal him. (Carver heals 3 hp, Crosseye has his axe in one hand, the wand on the other).
Zee keeps attacking at the prone enemy in front of her, hurting it with his magic.
---
Both of the small enemies in front of Carver attack, trying to bring the large centaur down. One of them connects for 4 more damage.
The prone vegepygmy in front of Zee tries to get below her legs, covering there, but Zee screams and kicks him out. (Zee, Mack, Cameron and Atlas can all take an AoO against this one).
Your turn!

OOC: I'll have to read up on Attacks Of Opportunity. I am must be misunderstanding how they work if they got one on me, and if I get one on them when the one by Zee is so far away from me.

IC:
Attack Of Opportunity on the one by Zee:
(flurry of blows: Hit AC 7 for 2 damage, and AC 9 for 2 damage)

I move to flank one of them (flanking the one at 10.22), and attack it with a flurry of blows:
(flurry of blows: Hit AC 18 for 3 damage, and AC 10x for 1 damage)

OOC: I'm not sure if I take the +2 for flanking, or if Carver gets it on his attack. I took it this time, so subtract 2 if that was incorrect.

As the moss creature at Zee's feet tries to dive for cover Atlas brings his sword down towards it. Unfortunately between the creature's dexterity and not wanting to accidentally strike Zee, the blow misses.

Seeing that Carver is in trouble his takes a chance and moves closer, passing the cowering creature in front of Zee and striking at one of those attacking Carver. His blade is true this time as it again slices through the plant creature with ease.

OOC
Neither you nor I threaten the one in front of Zee, so we shouldn't get AoO's, Mack. I don't threaten it because a whip does not threaten the squares it has reach into, you don't have enough reach to threaten it.
You were probably hit by an AoO because the only way to get to where you flanked the one last turn made you move through a square it threatened.
A flurry of blows is a full round action, thus not a split second attack of opportunity.
If you moved to 11.23 to flank the guy with Carver then both of you gain a flanking bonus vs it.

IC
Cameron moves to 10.19 and touches Carver, healing some of his wounds ( spontaneously cast Magic Weapon as Cure Light Wounds for 5 healing). He will also take the wand if Crosseye wishes to hand it over, freeing the Ranger to fight.

OOC:

I think I understand now. I'm used to an "Attack Of Opportunity" being if you move from a threatened space to a non-threatened space, such as running past a creature, etc. In my case, I was circling someone, as you would in battle. It looks like in Pathfinder that still provokes an AoO, unless you only move 5' per round. Is that correct?

For the Healing Wand, our intention was to have someone hold it that could use it, but not someone that normally casts Cure Light Wounds, as it was our "backup" if the Cleric needed healing and/or was down, etc. Also, it doubled our potential healing power if we needed multiple Cures in 1 round. And lastly, it allowed us to use spells first, and the wand as backup (since the Wand was expensive for us). I think that was our plan, but our party membership has changed quite a bit, so the thoughts around that may have changed completely now.

OOC: Eric R: The enemy at 13.22 got one on you because you moved next to him. At 20' speed there was no way to pass "around" him, and you didn't mention trying to use acrobatics to avoid an AoO. But yes, you can move 5' without provoking.
Look at this explaining VIDEO... I bet you find it worthwhile.
About you getting one on the one on 11.21, I am mistaken, it is too far away, you don't get one. You would have missed anyway, so no harm done. As David F said you should not be able to move and do a Flurry of Blows.
David F: You are right, no AoO for you. Sorry! About Irdalas, let's say Gaston gets in the way, as it is "Sharing" space with him,

Mack moves behind the small enemies and catch one of Carver's attackers on the back, hitting him quickly with a succession of strikes to the kidneys (or where he thinks the creatures kidneys should be).
Atlas follows up attacking the same one, cutting one of the creatures arms, from which a smelly ichor pours out.
Cameron moves behind the prone Gaston and uses his magic to heal Carver 5 HP.
Irdalas moves on top of Gaston, trying to attack the nearest creature. But Gaston grabs one of his legs and stops him from attacking.
Carver turns back, trying to get away from the attackers, while drinking a healing potion.
Zee keeps attacking the enemy prone in front of her, but you notice her magic is starting to take it's toll on the fragil girl.
---
The prone vegepygmy in turn attacks Zee again, but in it's awkward position misses by far.
The other two scream and seem bolstered at seeing the mighty centaur back away from they.
Both turns, one attacking Atlas and the other Mack. Atlas armor deflect his attacker spear, while Mack is far too agile for the other one.

Atlas grins as he realizes that he's in the middle of all 3 of the remaining creatures. It's time to put an end to this. With so many choices it is hard to decide where to start, but he quickly decides to take care of the fallen creature so that Zee can rest. My she looks haggard. With a quick swipe of his blade he brings it across the creature in another attempt to end it's life quickly so that he can deal with the other threats without concern for the safety of the others. His aim is not as true as he would like, but the creature's prone position doesn't allow it enough room to avoid the blade none the less.

OOC: Thanks Corsario. The video was very funny, but are they making run of this rule? I noticed it didn't take 6 seconds to take a 5-foot move. :)
I think I follow the AoO now. I didn't realize there were 3 different types of movement. I thought there was "run" and "walk", and walk was fine. Didn't know about the 5' step. I'll follow that from now on.
Also didn't know about the difference between a normal attack and a full round attack. Seems kind of counter-intuitive that someone that gets extra attacks because of speed actually ends up having to spend more time doing those attacks. But I'll follow that rule with my flurry-of-blows from now on as well.

IC: Now that Carver is charging from one side, I flank attack the vegepygmy (at 10.23) with a flurry-of-blows.

I guess Earl will make Crosseye let the creature go too...
You see the creature vanish in the forest. The rumble in the ground and the wasp noises, you suspect, were only illusions. In the 3 vegepygmies bodies you find 9 more Goodberries in total.
Gaston gets up and tries to clean himself. He tries to regain his composure.
"Good work boys! Miklaus, the Silver Bishop, made and excellent choice by asking you to help me!"
He starts to pack again, as if nothing has happened.
Combat over! Congratulations, you all get 400 xp each, plus 50 xp for letting the last vegepygmy go!
After you bury the dead you are ready to depart. You start moving in the direction you arrived, hoping the forest will let you go unmolested.
But soon you feel the oppressive presence of the angry land, with the trees, the wind and even the birds flooding you with a hate feeling. You keep advancing in silence.
You reach the place with the twig statues. The offering are still there.
And then you see them. Dozens of vegepygmies, all around you, weapons in hand.
---
Gaston fumbles his weapon while trying to draw it, grow pale, and finally faints.
One of the small creatures advance. From his wounds you recognize it as the one you let escape only a few hours ago.
It raises a spear over his head, and makes the clicking noises the creatures uses to communicate.
He stops making the sounds, lower his weapon, and turns around, getting lost into the foliage.
All the other vegepygmies turn and disappear into the forest.
You thing you hear a moan from all around you, followed by a gurgling sight. The wind, so far chill and unwelcoming, stops. The trees stop creaking and moving, The birds start to sing in their usual voices.
The forest, if not friendly, is now at peace.
Merry Christmas! Well, you are almost out of the woods, so to speck! :P
You can celebrate a little, and wake Gaston, before we continue. We are now in a "low" period so I won't post until you all got the change of updating your character sheets and making a new post. Carver's sheet needs other modifications too (wink wink). Time to celebrate! Congratulations! Well played!

Congrats all, well done

On level up, I am a fan of Simple
....Roll HP in Loot and Booty with a statement that you are doing so
....add any skill points, choose any feats and make all other adjustments like BAB CMD, Spells and all that

the only exception to this would be if the PrC or group you may eventually belong to specifically states that you need x time or resources to get the benefit.

Atlas breathes a sigh of relief. "Well, it appears that we may make it out of here yet." A smile creeps onto his face as he begins to hum to himself, slowly walking towards Gaston. "So, before this buffoon wakes up, lets get on the same page. My intention when we get back is to be honest with whomever asks us about this adventure. I don't see any reason to hide anything that happened. Does anyone have concerns with this approach?"

You can see Carver has a serious attitude about allowing anyone to ride on his back, and it's not a pleasant attitude at that.

Atlas is in good spirits and during the walk out he enjoys taking time to walk with and talk with each of the group. Nothing special, just chit-chat, getting to know them, etc. He's a little more open about his past and the characters learn a little more about his time as a captive with bandits and his time at the monastery. He also shares with everyone his concern for the type of group the Chancers are that they might allows someone like Gaston to join them. He's not shy about his opinion, but he's also open to hearing their side of things before condemning them completely.

"I'm with Carver, lets push to the Tree tonight. I could use a warm bed and some hot food."

You try to reach the tree, but night reach you before you manage to.
Around the campfire Gaston starts to talk, to nobody in particular.
"What worries me the most if that the Chancers Club thinks I failed the test, that would tarnish the reputation of Mikalus, the Silver Bishop. And he is not a man to embarrass in public. Worst yet, I will need to try and to this test all over again, and more creatures will die because of it. But if I got accepted, well, I can stay at the club lodgings, doing my business, without needing to to things like this ever again."
He turns to see at the fire.
"I only need to say only the good parts of the test. How I defeated several enemies. How we were able to survive the forest. Without anything else. Not lies, just the parts that will get me accepted. And I swear, on my honor, never to go into a forest again in my life."

Gaston's speech is tempting. It's often tempting to do something that will save lives, even if the process seems wrong. It's never an easy choice, and I mull it over in my head. But who really knows what the future may bring? We may save some lives in the short run by "ignoring some of the facts", but Gaston may end up in a position to put even more lives in jeopardy later. I do also appreciate the fact of not embarrassing the Silver Bishop on purpose in front of everyone. I don't speak up right away, but my thoughts are leading to telling the entire story, as best we can, and as truthful.

OOC: Working on my character as fast as I can. Researching some of my options. It's ever a challenge to level up and still try to remain as useless as possible. :)

Does anyone know where that is? One of the reasons I ask is for the Rogue class. They use the "Search" skill to find traps as well. However, Search is not a Woldian skill. I'm assuming it's one of those skills that got merged into another.

That kind of account may not be cheap. Again I am left to wonder who is funding this trip. Are you paying us or the Silver Bishop? If it is him it would be a shame to cheat him of his money by not giving him a full account of what happened. Some of the most literal members of this group might find that the same as lying to him."
Cameron is trying to drive home he point that the account Gaston wants may benefit many people, but it will mostly benefit Gaston himself. Since that is the case it is traditional to make it well worth the tellers while to make this story reflect him kindly.

Atlas takes a moment to consider, "Nah, I would rather do it on my own than have to live with myself after that deal. This is a good group, we can accomplish all that and more without selling out. Cameron knows what he needs to know now, All he has to do is inform the others without Gaston getting wind of it.
" Carver, are you still wounded? Let me see that."
Cameron climbs up on Carvers back and starts bandaging the centaur's head. As he does so he whispers to his friend.
" If they tell a story that doesn't get Gaston into the Chancer's he is going to use his influence to get back at us. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but when we need that permit to do something, or a hand getting into or out of trouble his taint will be there and it will poison us. Does anyone you know know more about revenge than me? Revenge is patient and when it happens it really hurts you. You have to convince them, they won't listen to me because they think I am just out to make a few extra gold. Tell them, I will distract Gaston."
Cameron finishes his bandaging and hops down. He motions to Gaston, that they should step aside and talk.
He gets Gaston's ear and tells him," We both know that you didn't quite do all the Chancer's wanted, did you? I have already seen it in your eyes, so don't deny it. You don't want to tromp around out here, you want the prestige of the Club and never want to set foot in the woods again. I get you. I'll get you into the Chancer's with my story, and see that the others do too. But you have to hold up your end. No negative repercussions against us, any of us. While Cameron distracts Gaston, Carver gathers the rest of the party.
"I am not in any means a supporter of Gaston, let me say that to begin with. But I'm getting an impression that we should try and get him him into the Chancers, not for his benefit, but for ours. Now while I feel he is absolutely useless in the field or in combat, I get the surprising impression that he is deadly in the political realm. That might not mean much to us right now, but just think ahead a few years, and the resentment Gaston might harbor if we should be the cause of his not getting accepted.
I'm not saying to lie, I would never lie about anything. But there is telling the truth of a situation and telling the absolute truth about it.
An example would be.....
While encamped in the Woods, we were attacked many times and as a group we succeeded it fighting off those that fought against us.
Or....
While Gaston cowered in abject fear, those with skill beat back the attackers that repeatedly attacked the group.

While both are the truth, right? Which would benefit us more? I'd say the first, it would give the best chance for Gaston to get accepted and keep us in good stead with everyone involved.
Now, I can't make any of you say anything you don't want to, and wouldn't in any case, it wouldn't be honorable after all, but I can see a bit into the future where it would be of the greater good to have Gaston support us in our endeavors rather than stand between us and our goals.
So, please think it over, but while I won't make up anything to support him, I may just gloss over some spots to make him look not so bad."

This is all said with great conviction, and suddenly Carver's eyes seem distracted as he looks off to the side above everyone's head, and he nods to the empty air and smiles slightly.....

Atlas is visibly annoyed by Gaston's comments, but he doesn't say anything in response.

In response to Mack and Carver, "It doesn't sit right with me for several reasons. First off, I'm not convinced that Gaston is all that savvy in regards to the politics. Everyone seems to be assuming that he was sent into these woods to get into the Chancers, but whose to say that this wasn't a test for us? If I remember correctly he said that he was told not to participate. Who's to say that they didn't send him here to die, or us to die? There are so many other reasons that we could have been sent out here. And as for needing him, or not wanting him to hurt us in the future, I am not going to live in fear of telling the truth. The truth is more than what you say, it includes what you do not say, as we are clearly changing the outcome of something by not saying it.

"Also, who has considered the opposite thought? By glossing over this now we could find ourselves worse off in the future. Maybe through some blunder of his we end up on a suicide quest, or maybe his antics come out and we're tied to him. I can count just as many ways that getting him into the Chancers can hurt us as much as it can help us.

"My mind is made up, I'm sticking with the whole story. I cannot in good conscious hide the truth. It was clearly communicated in the beginning that we were to protect ourselves if attacked and to recount the story of what happened. I plan to tell the story as it happened and I won't gloss over it. I won't embellish it either, I will just tell it. I would rather have it come back and bite me when I was acting with honor than to have it come back and bite me for not acting with honor."

"Master Gaston! You are alive! Did you finish the test?"
Gaston, very elegant and with a rich guy presence don't like the question.
"Of course I did, silly boy! Now hurry! We need to have everything ready for the Bishop and the rest of the Chancer's Club! Hurry!"

Returning to the Tree - CoDM Corsario

Seeing no answer if forthcoming, Gaston shakes his head.
"Well, don't worry. When I get accepted to the Chancer's Club I will personally pay each one of you 1,000 gp, besides the good will for me and my family. Let's go! The celebration awaits!"
He starts walking, in front of you all, tall and proud.
OOC: Dan will take over the DM duties on Monday (New Year, new DM). Thanks for your playing this last few months, I hope you got as much fun as I did, and see you later!

OOC: Thanks again Cameron. I see the size problem now. That spreadsheet wasn't set up very well to calculate that correctly I guess. I have fixed mine now. Although my CMB has now taken an unexpected blow. ;(
Thanks for the DMing, Corsario! It's been fun! :)

Hence my problems with disarming and tripping, even with a whip. Advancing in 1 class for a few levels and getting a BaB would help you. Do be aware, the Wold requires that by level 6 you must have 2 levels in your classes, no single dips. They give you up to level 6 to get those second levels because some folks, alot actually, like to multiclass.
And yes, that sheet has alot of erroe. I have not found a "perfect" sheet yet, and I am too lazy to make one 8).

Thanks a lot Corsario been fun until next time. My character has grown a lot and the moral decisions were great we still have to face for along time.

As Atlas said life starting to go back to normal as a normal as it can work will slow down family life settle down kids back to school wife back to work. Like the holidays but for me I am so busy glad they are over now.
I hope everyone has a good 2015 looking forward to new adventures.

Ps will take time the weekend to update character to level 2

OOC: Cameron: Yep, saw those multi-class rules. Not a problem. I have a plan (kind of). ;)

I've been slowly merging a few different sheets together. So I should have one without errors at SOME point I hope.... although it's also geared towards my specific character though, too.

As for your whip, I'm surprised that doesn't cancel out your size penalty. Doesn't really make sense to have the size penalty for a whip, in my mind. since you're disarming from a distance. I could see the problem with me doing it with my sai, though.

Carver, takes the time to clean up a bit and use the stream to wash off as much of the veggie-pygmy remains as he can. He also wipes down his armor and positions his cloak to cover up the scrapes where the black paint has been scratched off from the combats. He decides he needs to purchase some more paint, for touch ups, he should have thought of that before....
He's not happy that most of the rest are so blinded with their disgust for Gaston, they can't see into the future only the door in their face that they want to smash open. Gently opening that door would leave the hallway beyond it free of wreckage allowing easy passage, but the smashing it open will do nothing but make the traversing of it treacherous and possibly deadly.....
He just shakes his head and hopes that Cameron's and his own descriptions will be enough... He doesn't plan on lieing, it would be against his beliefs, but adjusting the story so it keeps the actions of Gaston's participation in the best light, wouldn't exactly be lieing, it would be the accentuation of his actions.

Return to The Tree of Parting
Monday January 5th, 2015 9:32:06 AM

ooc putting in an early post to get us back in full time mode

The servant dashes to his horse and is quickly galloping towards the Tree of Parting. Gaston starts walking but then pulls up short, his hand coming to his chin in thought. A moment later, he folds his arms across his chest and watches for a few moments. "On second thought, I should allow him time to return and get things ready. I only become a living legend once after all." Gaston beams a self confident smile about at all of you. It turns to a smirk at Mack's comment on Boni's share.

Gaston steps to the halfling and ruffles his hair with one hand as an adult might do to a child, "Boni has no share as he decided to remain behind at the entry of the wood."

Gaston's words conjure some of the reasons that Cameron left the Fist. With the casual flick of a sentence one member of their group was not being paid. He didn't participate in the mission and Cameron would have thought it odd if he were included, but it had begun.
His mind drifted back to the caravan of circus performers, ravaged by gnolls and met by the Fist on the road. They ha been dispatched to protect a town, probably a day and a half away from gnolls. But these people were not the ones paying them, and these were supposedly not the gnolls they had been sent to fight. It didn't matter that these folk would die once the Fist rode over the hill, not to the Fist anyway. It mattered to Cameron though. He had disobeyed orders and stayed behind to escort the performers to the next town. It had been his bow, the strongman's fists and the remaining lion's teeth that got them to that town, at the cost of the lion, and a long period of unconsciousness that Cameron could never forget when his life hung by a thread, and the mercy of a giany he didn't at first like.
He felt a sick feeling in the pit of his stomach and looked to Carver. The paladin was honest to a fault and had stuck to their orders in the case of the performers. He knew the Centaur hadn't liked doing that, but the paladin code wasn't one that could be broken easily. Who would be hurt by Gaston's casual decisions to take revenge on them if they told the story as it happened? Then again, who would be hurt if Gaston was accepted and made decisions that could lead to others being in peril in the Chancer's Club? Cameron's head started to hurt, and since they were going to take a longer break, he pulled out his battered grooming kit and headed to the stream to shave and make himself presentable. While there he allowed the burbling of the water to soothe his mind and he prayed harder than he had ever consciously prayed for guidance in what to do. When he finishes, his beard and hair are again trimmed and groomed , his outfit as clean as he can make it and his mind, having focused again and been touched by his goddess is now ordered and prepared. He returns ready to continue on to the Tree.

Atlas grimaces at Gaston's delay, but he doesn't say anything. He takes a moment to take off his gear and pile it up nicely, then steps to the side and closes his eyes. After a few deep breaths he begins his forms.

Once he's done you notice that the wrinkles between his eyebrows are gone and he seems a bit more content. He takes a seat next to his gear and starts to give it a good cleaning, at least for his standards, which means that he uses an old cloth and his shirt sleeves to wipe the grime off. When asked he says that he'll pay someone a copper at the Tree to give it all a good deep clean.

Looking up at Gaston he says, "Any time you are ready Gaston, just say the word." While he waits he cleans and he strikes up conversation with anyone in the party that happens to be interested, while also keeping an eye up and down the road.

DMs remain in place for a year or two, just long enough to get used to their style and how they want things done IMO. Then the Wold shifts and a new set of DMs will be placed with each game. One thing this does is it keeps us from getting comfortable, " Well Dan would never set us against something we couldn't beat, so lets figure this out"( not necessarily true, this quote used for illustration purposes only. Your results may differ, violently) It also beings in a fresh set of eyes and ideas to maybe change the focus of the campaign.
Some DMs are reserved for high level games where the number of moving parts gets really, really high and difficult to manage. In the BBL game when we reached that point, no DM was willing, available or able to DM our group. Since we were all accomplished players and most of us had DMed at least a little the PTB wrote us modules and one of us would "sit out a scene" and DM that part of the module. This wasn't ideal because the current DM had no idea how their part linked to the part in front or behind it and it made continuity a nightmare. Thankfully and devious and excellent (as well as Evil) former DM offered to come back and take us over for one horrible module that took place in Koshe Marr. He killed some of us, hurt us and challenged us to our wits end, and it was one of the best modules we played.

Dan K Co-DM I am one of the original DM's of Tree. I have never left but i have had 2 partners. David and I take turns sitting in Big Chair as it were. it give the DM a break in small stints to help with burnout. allows a bit of focus on other game related things like writing the next adventure

Seeing that everyone head to the stream to clean up I follow suit also. A good swim would do me good. Clean my body and setting my mind. I find a gods dip very relaxing. While in the water I clean up best I can and after start on my armor. Even though it is old and might have seen its better days it still severs me well. About the Gaston thing now, everyone has made good points to me but what will the future hold? That is the question I think. Yes, it most likely would be good to have a high level friend that can help with resources and in different ways but at what cost to us/me? This is what we need to figure out I think. Maybe I should go talk with Atlas and the others. With that I head over to Atlas to were he cleaning his armor. "What is our postion with this Gaston thing? Surport him or not? I ask Atlas.

To Crosseye, "I just cannot bring myself to hide the full truth. I understand the angle, but I see just as much danger down that path as I do in telling all. I would rather have honor on my side and sleep well at night knowing that I did what was right. If I end up poor and cast aside from this tree and it's citizens then so be it, I'll move on with the clothes on my back. I've been there before. If I end up dead for speaking the truth, so be that as well, at least I died for what I believe in. I could end up in either of these places by lying just as well as telling the truth.

"So, that's my plan. I know it's not popular, the call of wealth and fame are strong, even for me, but I am quite confident that we can find our own way to these without having to get in bed with someone with the questionable character like Gaston."

Carver (John C) AC 16, AC 18 with shield, CMB 6, CMD 17, HP 21/21 Character Sheet

"I am not going to lie to benefit him, but I am planning on giving enough information to hopefully assist our cause. If they pin me down with a direct question, I will of course say the truth. I'd recommend everyone do the same, but each must make up their own mind."

Cameron (David F) AC 18 (T 14, FF 15) CMD 13 HP 16/16 Character Sheet

Assuming this is all being discussed away from Gaston, say near the stream, Cameron makes his last effort to explain why he isn't sure Gaston being allowed into the Chancer's is a bad idea. If this is being discussed in front of Gaston, then he remains silent.
" I hope your honor feels good if it isn't you he hurts when he decides to take revenge. Someone that will strike back with a pen and not their fist usually doesn't aim directly at the ones they want to hurt. Too much armor there. Normally they aim for the softer spots on people you know."
Cameron thinks of his Uncle Morgan, and how he looked lying on the slab in the temple. They hadn't just killed him, they had taken away all that made him a paladin, and a Dwarf. Jancassais had stuck the bargain to return him those things, in exchange for Cameron's willing hands. The halfling had thought about it for a few days before he realized that the Dwarf had made him who he was, the least he could do was return the Dwarf to the way he was so that he could return to the stone with his honor. He didn't regret the choice, only that it had taken so long for him to come to it.
"Look, I get you point. I have my pride and honor too. But bureaucracy is a poorly aimed weapon that normally hurts those around you rather than the intended target."
" At least get the lay of the land before you commit to telling your tale. I wasn't here when you were hired, so I am pretty sketchy on who is paying for this and who is actually the one doing the hiring. If it isn't Gaston then the story might benefit them more if it is the truth. If that is the case then I will tell how poorly he performed. If bravery and martial prowess were the test, then I will find a way to make my point without words. These Chancer's cannot be blind to the world and the way people manipulate them. They are paragons of society and business, it can't be easy to slip something by them. They will definitely be on their guard to hear what is really said. We just have to be able to speak the language they are listening to. "
" Just make sure you know the questions, before you give the answers. That's all I am saying."

As Atlas finishes up with cleaning his gear he heads to the stream to engage with the others and to take a dip if time allows. Upon his arrival he hears Cameron's comments and responds, "Cameron, you make fair points, of which several I have already considered. However, my gruffness with this situation has probably made it seem like I'm going to charge in there and blurt out to everyone that this man is a coward and fool. That is not my intent and I apologize for letting my emotions get the best of me and not communicating clearly. I don't have a clue what is going to happen. I don't know if we'll be asked direct questions or open ended questions. I don't know if they'll want to hear from all of us or just one of us. Until we have an idea of what's going to happen then we're just guessing, so to your point, I'll listen to the questions before giving the answers. However, if I feel that the questioning, answering, or comments, whether from our group, from the Chancers, or Gaston is leading towards the implication that Gaston is a grand and brave hero then I'm going to speak up whether I'm asked or not.

"With all that being said, I hear you Cameron, and I'll take your comments to heart as I enter the viper's den later in the day."

Zee has had enough of Gaston, and his rather grand manner. She also never agreed to travel with Gaston, or return and report his daring adventure. So, she slips Atlas a note that reads:

I prefer to make my own introductions at the Tree of Parting. See you soon.

Then she stealthily makes her way down the trail on her own. Her goal is to make her own introductions to the head of the servants in the Tree, offer her services as a midwife to the Caretaker of the Leafy Chapel and/or Master Laughingwater, she will also try to secure lodging something modest and within her means. She is very sure to approach the denizens of the Tree with a servant's mind set; she is honest, demure, and anticipates the needs of those around her.

Her goal in all things: To be seen as hard-working, sweet, and cheerful. If Gaston's arrival is successful and he abides by his boasts, then Zee's efforts will be enhanced and people can see her as humble and brave. If Gaston is the liar that Zee thinks he is, Zee may hope to break even and be dismissed from the Tree with only a few nasty rumors.

Welcome back. Glad to see you were able to get all you needed to done over the holidays, and sorry for the circumstances that made that necessary. Please contact Jerry so that he can list you as active again in the game roster.
The Wold tends to level the group together, so I would start leveling. When new players join they start at the current level for simplicity. Imagine trying to keep a first level wizard alive in a fifth level group. The wizard would spend more time on the floor than talking. Starting lower would also limit the new players confidence and ability to add to the group, which is another reason they keep us all at the same level.
