DM Kathy Wednesday December 10th, 2014 10:47:18 PM
The winter solstice has passed, but spring is still weeks away. Dirt City is too far south to get very much snow, but today most of the city's denizens would probably welcome some fluffy white snowflakes in place of the needle-like rain currently being driven sideways across the City Above. Chilling raindrops are driven by the wind: up sleeves, into cloaks, under hoods. People trudge determinedly through the wet streets, looking variously resolute, miserable, and spoiling for a fight. It's a good day to be indoors.
But not for you. You have a meeting today with Abel Bogss, the man who recruited you into the organization known as the Crescent Moons Trading Company. Today, for the first time, you'll see the company's offices, and meet the other members of this "team" Boggs was talking about.
You are able to find the building without too much trouble, on its quiet street in Moontown or the Backstab Quarter, depending on who you ask.
[OOC: There is a new map for the City Above, but there is an issue with uploading things to the Woldipedia. For now, here is a copy on Google Docs.]
You don't arrive all at once, of course; each of you is coming from your lodgings or wherever you spent the night. You locate the building, and get a vague impression that bits of it are blue before you hurry inside out of the wet.
You enter into a smallish, square room. The wooden floor is scarred and stained, but it has been scrubbed and polished to a faint shine. A colorful rug covers part of the floor; it is a bit worn in places but still looks good. Chairs stand about the room--all sturdy and well-made, none matching. A potbellied stove in the corner keeps the room cozy even on this miserable day.
Opposite the door is a tall stool next to a writing-desk. Perched upon the stool is a cheerful-looking halfling woman in a dark-green dress. "Welcome!" she says springing down from the stool. "My name is Madri Brightside. And you are here for a meeting with Mr. Boggs." It isn't a question. She seems to know who you are, but you're pretty sure you've never seen her before. "It's just through there," she continues, gesturing to an archway. "Second door on the left."
You move down the hallway, and enter the second door on the left. It is another smallish room, almost completely filled by a large rectangular table. Mismatched chairs are ranged around the table, including several tall stools suitable for gnomes and halfings, and a large padded "kneeler" in the style favored by most Taurs. You do not see Boggs; however, you do see some other people. This must be the "team" Boggs mentioned.
[In your post, please describe your character so the other players can "see" you.]
Talanthrel (Paul) [HP 11} Wednesday December 10th, 2014 11:41:31 PM
Talanthrel paused in the doorway for a moment as his steel grey eyes swiftly scanned the room and it occupants from below a mop of soot black hair. Having scanned the room he gave the other people in the room a cheerful greeting of "Hail and well met!" His cheery grin and relaxed stance seem at complete odds with the normally dour reputation of most half elves. Giving a nod to those that returned his greeting, Talanthrel moved gracefully to a comfortable chair in the corner. Where having divested himself of his pack and quivers he lounged in the chair making himself comfortable. (OOC: Lets get this party started. This is my first post please let me know if anything needs to be presented diffrently)
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC Wednesday December 10th, 2014 11:52:35 PM
A 3 foot tall gnome enters the room. His outfit is loud to say the least. It is an explorer's outfit made up of various articles of clothing that seemingly don't match. While the boots are light brown, which is normal enough, the breeches have been dyed blue. The shirt is orange, and the jacket green. The gloves are yellow and the cloak violet. Perched upon his head is a cream coloured feather headdress capped with a crimson tricorn. On the brim, there is an imitation peacock feather on the right hand side and an imitation azalea bloom on the left.
Toston's skin is orange in color and his hair is green as can be determined from his eyebrows. As he wears his hair close cropped none of it can be seen under the hat. Toston has large purple eyes that match his cloak.
A backpack with bedroll is firmly strapped to his back and he is carrying a small arsenal. Toston has a sling clipped to the backpack and a bullet pouch strapped across his chest. In an underarm sheath on his left hand side there rests a weapon that resembles a scythe but is more exotic. A pair of nunchaku sit in a holder on the left hand side of his belt and an unusual looking piercing weapon rests sheathed on the right.
Toston had a smokestick clutched in his hand when he first entered the room as part of him still thought that Abel's offer could be an elaborate trap. He warily scanned the room for danger and finding none hastily put the smoke stick back in his pocket hoping no one noticed.
With a sheepish look on his face he says, [b]"Toston Lotor, humble martial artist and sailor."'[b] in the common tongue of the Wold to the assembled group.
He then finds a stool on the far side of the room that would allow him to sit facing the door with his back to a corner and takes a seat.
Gilmek (10/10 HP) [Briton] Thursday December 11th, 2014 12:35:42 AM
Gilmek opened the door, and quickly stepped inside, shutting it behind him. He glanced about nervously, and due to old habits, and sighed in relief. He was almost half expecting to find a couple of orcs with spears ready to put him on a spit and call him the 'fattened pig'. But, then again, who could blame him? He had no idea what to expect.
As Gilmek glanced around again, Gilmek smiled his best smile and tried to avoid attention, as much as he could at least. He was self-conscious that his blue skin and hair were attraction enough attention as it was.
"Hello every-" Gilmek started to say in Common, before tripping and falling flat on his face. Quickly picking himself back up, Gilmek dusted himself, glancing around once more, hoping no one saw his fall, and embarrassingly walked to one of the corners of the room, which was occupied already by a half-elf. Gilmek grabbed a chair and sat down. After a moment of what Gilmek thought was awkward silence, Gilmek nodded a greetings to the half-elf.
"Hello sir"
Avin Fellows (12/12) [T-Kelly]) Thursday December 11th, 2014 2:53:37 AM
A cloak the colour of the forest occupying the doorway marks the arrival of Avin. Although the cloak obscures most of his features anyone watching can catch glimpses of his blue eyes and pale, sickly face as he turns back and forth to assess the room. An uncertain hand pokes out from beneath the knee-length cloak revealing plain tan garments beneath. Although it vanishes after the briefest second a wry smile passes over Avin's face before it contorts back into a visage of irritation. Somehow, as he shuffles across the room, his quaintly pointed shoes manage to make a loud wisping noise which make his mumbled greetings and complaints alike unintelligible.
Avin stops to seat himself cross-legged in a kneeler and situates the length of the cloak to sprawl out behind him. Following a few practiced movements partially obscured by the cloak, the man pulls out his unbuckled backpack and sets it at his side with a small amount of reverence before scanning the room once more.
This time his eyes lock upon the orange gnome with purple eyes and the most peculiar hat. A hand raises in equal parts trepidation and accusation.
"Don't I know you? I know you don't I?"
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC Thursday December 11th, 2014 5:25:37 AM
In response to the question from the sickly looking man, Toston scans his memory. After some time he faintly remembers a strange inn, feeling sick, a kind human sorceress, 2 minotaurs, an enigmatic stranger and lastly a sickly man wearing pointy shoes that fell from the ceiling. The memories are faint as if viewed through fog or underwater and Toston isn't quite sure he remembers everything that was said or done in the inn. It is uncanny, but he does remember the man's name and something about fire magic.
To Avin he says, "When I met you before you said your name was Avin Fellows. This will sound odd, but I remember meeting you in the strangest inn I've ever set foot in. I think you fell from the ceiling and something about fire magic. As I said earlier my name is Toston. Well met."
Wilford Grimly (Introduction to Wil) Thursday December 11th, 2014 7:31:42 AM
Wil steps into the small room. His small five foot four frame panics as the other members of the team look at him. His years of interacting with groups were long gone. Left upon the street as a grubber, Wil took on a comfortable life alone. Wil pushed down the hooded cloak and adjusted the long brown braid that fell from his head to his waist. He found an uncomfortable chair near the back of the room and walked toward it.
Broom Thursday December 11th, 2014 8:44:08 AM
Dripping wet, a stout looking dwarf with an abnormally large nose and practically no facial hair (for a dwarf) stood in a puddle of water as he glanced nervously at the crowd.
Grabbing his shabby broom that shares the same lack of facial hair, Broom hurriedly ambled towards a dark corner and tried to appear as part of the furniture.

Stepping through the door, with the day's rain still dripping from his dreadlocks is a Half-Orc. Well built, but somewhat shorter than one would expect from one of his kind.
He gives the room and it's occupants a quick scan, his eyes stopping briefly on each of their faces. He nods once and then steps over to the nearest chair. Dropping his heavy backpack on the floor behind him, he rests his bow on the table, but keeps his two handaxes sheathed at his waist.
After getting himself situated, he looks up at the group and realizes that hasn't introduced himself yet. "Var Tuegh. Tracker."
Var (Tom I.) Thursday December 11th, 2014 10:01:13 AM
[ooc: sorry guys, still getting used to the posting interface, and my HTML skills are pretty rusty!]
Ashley Steward [HP 13/13] Thursday December 11th, 2014 7:57:57 PM
Ashley opens the door, heading inside to escape the miserable downpour that has soaked his black, faded cloak that covers his scratched, dented scalemail. Unclasping the garment, now more of a hindrance than an asset indoors, he folds it over one arm, giving a faint nod of understanding towards Madri. His leather boots fall heavily upon the wooden floor as he enters the second door on the left, as instructed. Entering, his eyes scan the others, taking in their appearances and general temperaments. Ashley is a tall human, well muscled and powerfully built, standing over most men at 6'3". He has long, brown hair down to his shoulders, with a well kept beard upon his face. His scale mail is functional and well-maintained, but shows the dents and scratches of the times it has come between himself and a face to face conversation with Gargul. A large greatsword is strapped to his back, and looped to his belt is a secondary, one handed warhammer. The man's eyes are a dark blue when he meets the gaze of the others there. He drapes his wet cloak along the back of a chair and then takes off his large sword, resting it up against the wall behind the chair he takes a seat in. Looking over the others, he grunts slightly to himself, whatever thoughts of his peers so far a mystery. Leaning back in his chair, he addresses the rest of the group in his deep voice, "I'm Ashley Steward. Smuggler by trade. I take it you're the ones Boggs intends for me to work with."
DM Kathy Friday December 12th, 2014 1:40:17 AM
You variously enter the room and size up your new teammates. Toston, Var, and Ashley introduce themselves. Avin does not, but Toston seems to recognize him and gives his name. Talantrhel and Gilmek offer greetings, but not their names. Wilford and Broom are silent, for now.
You wait in the room for a few awkward moments before Abel Boggs enters and shuts the door. You recognize him from your earlier meeting. Well, you're pretty sure you recognize him. You are again struck by how very easy it is to forget or overlook Abel Boggs. He takes a seat at the table--not at the head, but among you, as if he regards you as equals.
"Thank you for coming," he says, "and thank you for agreeing to join our organization. I don't know whether everyone has met..." and he goes around the table and introduces each of you. Just your names; he doesn't say anything about your skills or how you came to his attention.
"Before I brief you on your first mission," he continues, "I want to be sure we all understand why we're here. To the outside world, the Crescent Moons Trading Company is a merchant house like any other. We go to some pains to maintain that appearance, and you are responsible for assisting in that goal. The day the population finds out our true purpose is the day the Knives come in here and kill everyone. There are real merchants in here; not everybody is a specialist like this team. They wouldn't stand a chance."
He pauses for a moment, letting this sink in.
"The company is backed by powerful interests in Dirt City who need to remain anonymous for the time being. However, they want to help the common folk of the city, who find few friends these days among those in power. That is our mission: to help those who cannot help themselves, and who do not have the influence to get help from more official sources."
"You are not the only team of specialists sponsored by the company. You will not be meeting the others, for security reasons."
"The resources we have to offer you are limited, and usually restricted to what we have on hand. We will, to the best of our ability, conceal your activities from the Knives. We have safehouses in the city; locations and passwords will be provided to you. This is the sort of information you need to memorize; you cannot be carrying around a list."
"Now, for your current mission. There have been reports of walking dead in Grubbertown. People have been attacked; some have even been killed. The attacks have been reported to the Knives, but it is 'only' Grubbers being attacked, so nobody is very interested in helping. Except us. I want you to find out where the undead are coming from, and deal with the problem to the best of your ability.
"Starting in a couple of hours, I'll be operating a small table in the Scrum," he continues. "I'll stay there until evening. Come find me when the job is done, or if you have questions."
[DM note: some of you are new to Dirt City, but some have been here for a while. You can decide whether your character knows this or not: the Scrum is a marketplace of sorts. Sometimes ships bring in cargo that's a little hot even for Dirt City. Ship captains are anxious to get rid of it as quickly as possible, so an ad-hoc market has sprung up in a small plaza near the docks. Buying and selling there has a frantic, scrambling quality to it, so it came to be called the Scrum.]
Bogs pauses. "Are there any questions?" he asks.
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC d20+1=17 ; Friday December 12th, 2014 5:05:55 AM
(OOC: I have a question Kathy, I have a lottery item that may come in handy for this quest...it is a placard on a string that says I am a zombie and has a CL1 hide from undead effect, how did this item come to be in Toston's possession? Do lottery items break the 4th wall? I'm just trying to figure out how to explain it if I use it)
Toston asks Abel, "Is there a particular part of Grubbertown that gets more reports of these undead than others? Are the reports closer to where Grubbertown meets the Scrum or Moontown or are they away from the areas close to the boundaries? Are these undead of any particular type or is it varied?"
To the assembled group he asks, "Anyone from Grubbertown? Have you heard or seen anything unusual lately? Any rumors floating around of particular places less safer than usual due to unusual monsters?
Intelligence check : 17 to remember if Toston had heard anything useful concerning the situation in Grubbertown (OOC: Don't think his one knowledge skill that is trained (arcana) pertains to this)
Avin Fellows (12/12) [T-Kelly]) Friday December 12th, 2014 8:11:21 AM
Avin winces slightly at the mention of fire, his shoulders tensing. He leaves Toston unanswered save for a few soft mutterings to himself as Bogs enters. While Abel Bogs speaks Avin lowers his hood and wipes a hand through his grey-flecked crop of black hair. His eyes don't move from his new employer as Abel speaks, his pale face only shifting slightly as Toston picks up the conversation.
"Not far from here, not very far," he mumbles adding a few soft proclomations of ignorance conerning the attacks to Toston before switching his focus back to Abel. "What kind of walking dead plague us? I don't know enough. Is there anyone in particular to speak to? One who brought this to the Company's attention perhaps they know. I don't know enough."
OOC: I believe lottery items are handled much the same as anything earned from the GG. They sort of just show up. Also, Tom I. the code to link a sheet is link href="the link" followed by /link. Both are closed by brackets. (just to save you time looking through posts or shooting blindly.)

Var (HP 12/12 AC16/T13/FF14) Friday December 12th, 2014 11:57:11 AM
Var sits quietly and watches the group process this information. He personally has never had to hunt the undead, but figures that it can't be too different from hunting other beasts.
"Any information you have about the locations and times of the attacks will be useful in tracking them down." Var says.
Gilmek (10/10 HP) [Briton] d20+3=5 ; Friday December 12th, 2014 12:01:39 PM
Gilmek's ears perked up as he listened to Abel talk about the undead. He began to mutter to himself. "Undead in Dirt City?"
When the fellow gnome asked about Grubbertown, Gilmek raised his hand. "I've been there." Gilmek remembered when he was on the run, how in Grubbertown he could find a few places to make some money, albeit, not much. Gilmek tried to recall if he had ever heard anything about monsters in Dirt City, specifically undead.

Ashley Steward [HP 13/13] Friday December 12th, 2014 1:17:53 PM
Ashley listens to the conversation, noting which of them spoke, and which of them that had so fr elected to stay silent. Watching the group dynamic would be important, after all. He was going to be making some money with these people, and doing some good work. Figuring out which ones would be liabilities to their cover, or who weren't truly dirty enough for Dirt City was important. Once the conversation about digging up information starts, the large human leans forward, speaking.
"Regardless, it's a problem for now. We need to get on top of this before it becomes a larger issue. Information gathering can't take more than a day, two at the most."
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC Friday December 12th, 2014 2:33:45 PM
Toston responds to Ashley's outburst, "I agree we need to act, but I'm trying to determine what the known quantities are. I am trying to find out what is attacking and if there are any particular patterns in the location or if the attacks are centered in a particular area. Once we know that we can meet it head on by outfitting ourselves appropriately and venturing forth to where the hot spots are. If Abel has already has some of this information then that cuts down on the time it takes to gather the rest of the information we need. If he has all of the information then we can set forth at once as soon as we get it from him. We won't know how much of the information we need that he has unless we ask."
Ashley Steward [HP 13/13] Friday December 12th, 2014 7:52:18 PM
Ashley met Toston's eyes as the gnome spoke, while a wry grin and amused chuckle came from the man's throat. The smuggler leaned back in his chair again, putting his hands back into his lap.
"That wasn't criticism. But, it's good to know you have a thin skin."
Ashley winked and smiled, seemingly amused by what he perceived as an insight into Toston's character.
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC Friday December 12th, 2014 9:04:46 PM
"I apologize if I mistook your words for an insult," Toston replies to Ashley returning the swordsman gaze, "Master Reginald included strategy and tactics with his lessons on sailing, physical conditioning and combat. He also taught discipline and self control. Apparently I still need to work on the latter."
The gnome pauses and clears his throat, "Additionally, living in this city teaches one to be more careful than they might be in other surroundings. I agree the people of this city need our help, but who will help them if we are dead? We need to know more about what we are dealing with in order to better improve our odds of success and reduce our risk of casualties. If we are to become a team we also need to know what each member's capabilities are, so that we can work together more efficiently. As I stated earlier, I am a martial artist and sailor. I also am not very strong, so I have learned to fight using my agility."
Talanthrel (Paul) [HP 11]{Ac16, T13, FF13, Cmd16} d20+2=19 ; Friday December 12th, 2014 10:21:02 PM
As Talanthrel listens to the discussion he tries to remember what he knows about Grubbertown ( Intelligence Test 19) He decides to add to the discussion by asking. "Have there been any corresponding attacks in the City Below?"
Wilford Grimly (Matthew Stittl) Friday December 12th, 2014 10:38:27 PM
"We don't have time to think about this!" Wil stood abruptly causing the table to jump. "The zombie, if they exist, will have turned many of the Grubbers. They will then have multiplied two to three fold. We need to act now." He looked upon the room and found his audience was in a stunned silence. Instantly, he had realized he had made a fool of himself. He paused and then stepped from the corner of the room. "I have fought this walking dead many times. They are a nuisance and have destroyed many lives. They are also used as tools to force the will upon the people. I do not need to know what they are and their details. I just need to know where they are."
Var (HP 12/12 AC16/T13/FF14) Friday December 12th, 2014 11:52:34 PM
Var scowls and says "This is why I usually work alone." Leaning back in his chair he fixes his gaze on Wilford "A good hunter is a patient hunter. If there is a more powerful force using these undead as a weapon then we should be hunting this hidden foe." Looking back to Ashley, Var continues "Identifying the locations and movements of these monsters should give us a trail that leads back to our true quarry."
He returns is attention to Abel and awaits an answer.
Gilmek (10/10 HP) [Briton] Saturday December 13th, 2014 2:35:28 AM
As Gilmek listed to the group almost bicker, he held up his hands in a reassuring fashion. "Guys, calm down. While I also agree more info would be nice to have, we don't have the time. We need to do what we can while we can."
Wilford Grimly (Matthew Stittl) Saturday December 13th, 2014 11:50:07 AM
Wilford steps back and leans against the wall. "I apologize for the outburst. It's not exactly what I had planned when I walked into the room." Wilford smiled, his voice and temperament changed abruptly. "I agree with Var. I believe we need to stop the undead and then search for the master force behind it." His smile infectious Wilford gazed upon the team and waited for a response. When no response was returned he continued. "My concern is for the welfare of the poor in Grubbertown. I have friends among the lower classes but I have not been over that way for a while. "I shall wait, patiently," nodding at Var, "till we can find a way to remove this curse." He looked upon Abel for direction. [ooc: Do I need to roll any dice when I use charisma?]
Ashley Steward [HP 13/13] Saturday December 13th, 2014 8:53:55 PM
Ashley listened to Toston's apology, and gave the gnome a slight nod of understanding. He was about to reply, before Wilford's outburst. the smuggler crossed his arms over his chest, and watched the man and the rest of the group's reactions to him losing his cool. Once the situation was under control again, he addressed the group.
"It seems we're all in agreement for information being needed. We'll take what information Boggs here has," he said, gesturing towards Abel, "and then we'll take a day, two at the most to compile whatever else we can find. No, we don't need to let it get out of hand, but we cant' charge in blind, either. All in agreement?"
His eyes wandered the room, looking to each of the individuals that were seated there, looking for a response.
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC d20+7=14 ; d20+7=23 ; Sunday December 14th, 2014 1:40:11 AM
Toston realizes he is starting to like the tall swordsman and hopes he didn't start things off on the wrong foot. Surely this man has to know something of discipline and planning. If Toston is to turn this varied group of individuals into an effective team he will need Ashley's help. The other men seem fairly strange and he isn't sure if it is because they are human or if there is something off about them. The dwarf is quiet but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The half orc, brusque but maybe an accomplished hunter? The blue gnome seems nice enough. He has been to Grubbertown at least. The half elf's perspective is useful. Talanthrel thought to ask if there were corresponding attacks in the city below. This was a question that did not occur to Toston.
Toston replies, "I agree with this plan. I also think we as a team should talk strategy for when we face these undead and their master. Among ourselves we have a wide range of talent. This mission could turn ugly especially when the undead show up. We need to at least have a rudimentary plan for how to best employ our unique skills in battle to best work together. I may not look it but melee is my specialty. I have a sling if I need to attack from distance but with each of my other weapons or my fists I can attack multiple times if needed. I also have the ability to land a blow that can stun someone once a day. I have some minor gnome magic of limited use at my disposal that can produce light for a limited amount of time, create an auditory illusion, enable me to talk to an animal or perform minor tricks. Additionally I have fairly sharp senses and can be fairly stealthy so I can scout as well. What are the rest of your specialties when it comes to a fight, are you ranged or melee combatants? Any other special skills like magic or healing? Also anyone good at interacting with people or gathering information? We should rely on these people the most for finding out more about what is happening in Grubbertown. Everyone else can still help but if we have a bard or someone with a lot of local knowledge perhaps they could tell the rest of us how best to assist them, so we can get the most information in the shortest amount of time."
Sense Motive: 14 on Avin (trying to figure out if his mumbling is anything to be worried about) Sense Motive: 23 on Wilford (trying to figure out if there is anything unusual about Wilford)
Avin Fellows (12/12) [T-Kelly]) Sunday December 14th, 2014 4:07:36 AM
Avin waits quietly as the others speak, not quite mustering the confidence to interject his not completely formed opinions.
"I have magic!" the wizard blurts out. "Er, but I prefer people not to know..."
Avin's voice trails off almost as quickly as it was rose. He looks around as if expecting a shadow to drag him screaming to a nearby fireplace. He begins babbling about 'transmittent equations' and 'intermittent fields' as well as 'superlative inertia.' Avin himself is not quite certain about exactly what he's saying but it boils down to a single final statement. Or, rather, several short ones..
"I'm a wizard. Er, a transmuter. No necromancy. Not too good with evocation either. Too many quarks. Quirks. Quarks too."
With that said Avin quiets again. This time he seems quite determined to stay silent.
OOC-Toston: Highlight to display spoiler: {Avin's mumbles are nothing to worry about. it's your choice if you can make them out but he's complaining that everyone that has noticed him seems to know who he is. He likes to fancy himself low-key and this throws his perspective of himself.}
extra OOC: Highlight to display spoiler: { Dice for charisma checks only on npcs. Don't roll at us and we don't roll at you. Agreed? }
To Avin Toston says, "A wizard eh? and you don't want people to know? Don't worry I won't tell anyone. Do you have some sort of non-magical skill like sailing or baking or are you good at crafting any mundane items? If so we could make you out as a professional or crafter, officially. In the city I usually downplay my martial arts training so to most of Dirt City I am just a sailor. I hear that certain houses like monks with certain moral leanings and view monks of others as a threat. I don't think I have the leaning they are looking for so I usually wander the city without my nunchaku. Sometimes I take the siangham or kama but for the most part I generally really on my fists and wear a more non-nondescript traveler's outfit in dark colours when trying to help people."
To Abel he says, "Just thought of another question. Is there a place where I can change? I think when we go to find out more about these attacks it would be best if I wore something that doesn't necessarily stand out in a crowd."
(OOC: Sorry Avin and Wil. Wasn't quite sure how to handle your characters' quirkiness. I will stop making opposed checks. Avin checks out...trying to get an in character insight into Wil as I know a decent deal about him OOC)
Gilmek (10/10 HP) [Briton] Sunday December 14th, 2014 4:13:43 PM
Gilmek was listening to everyone, smiling. It seemed like they were going to work well, at least he hoped so. "I guess i can gather information. I might know a few people in Grubbertown that might know something. Heck, if worse comes to worse, i can just ask the random person on the street. I know so many languages I could probably speak with everyone in Grubbertown."
When Avin suddenly shouted out, Gilmek nearly lept out of his seat, grabbing his short-sword. Old habits. He smiled once he realized what Avain had said. "Hey, that might actually come in handy. I know some gnome spells as well, as well as a healing spell, though it ain't the best. " Gilmek was honestly surprised to find a wizard. He had only seen a few in his lifetime, and most were in his homeland when he was practically a baby.
Talanthrel (Paul) [HP 11/11; AC 16; Touch 13; Flat 13; Cmd16] Sunday December 14th, 2014 6:34:07 PM
Talanthrel nods with a grin at his bow. "I myself prefer ranged combat to melee but I am proficient in both. And I am a bower and amour smith by trade. Another thing that we may want to check on is if there has been any response from the Followers of Gargul? I understand they rather despise undead and I would hate to step on the toes of any clerics, that are filled with righteous anger."
Var (HP 12/12 AC16/T13/FF14) Sunday December 14th, 2014 6:50:18 PM
Var returns Willford's nod, cursing himself inwardly for speaking so harshly to the others. They were all here for the same thing, to help people, right? No reason not to get along. And Var knew that the truth behind why he worked alone had more to do with his attitude than with others.
"I'm about as skilled with a bow as I am my axes, so I could take up any position that would be of most benefit the group."
Broom (HP 12/12, AC17/T17/FF14) Sunday December 14th, 2014 7:54:42 PM
Broom notices a dirty spot and took out his broom and sweeps it clean before returning to his dark corner.
DM Kathy Sunday December 14th, 2014 7:57:15 PM Toston asks about the location of the attacks, and the type of undead involved. Boggs grimaces. "Grubbers aren't the most talkative people in town," he says. "I believe closer to the water than to Moontown, but I can't be sure. And it's impossible to tell what kind of undead; the people who saw them were too frightened to make detailed observations." Toston tries to think whether he's heard anything, or knows anything, but comes up blank.
Avin asks whether you can speak to one of the people who reported the attacks. Boggs shakes his head. "Grubbers like to mind their own business. Most of the reports we got were anonymous."
Broom considers what he has learned about history. He knows that these kinds of attacks are unusual in cities; cemeteries are consecrated to avoid exactly this kind of thing. Sometimes undead are a sign that there is a necromancer active in the area.
Var asks about locations and times. Locations you already know about, but..."We've had more reports of night attacks," Boggs says. "But there have been some during the day as well."
Gilmek thinks hard, but can't recall anything about undead in Grubbertown. Maybe this is a recent development.
Ashely is eager to stop talking and get started.
Talanthrel asks about attacks in the City Below. "There have been none that we know of," says Boggs.
Wilford, too, is anxious to get started.
Toston seems concerned about the amount of information available. "Understand this," Boggs says, suddenly very serious. "I will never inentionally withhold information that you need to complete a task and keep yourselves safe. Yes, this organization has a lot of secrets, most of which I cannot tell you. That doesn't mean I'm going to keep things from you for the fun of it."
He pauses for a moment. "Any more questions?"
[A couple of OOC notes. Prizes from the Loot-n-Booty or Giggling Ghost just kind of show up in your inventory. For the sake of your DM's sanity, you might want to note where you got them and when. Ashley Steward [HP 13/13] Sunday December 14th, 2014 8:00:53 PM
Ashley listened to them all speak of their skills and specialties, and throws in hit lot when there is a break in the conversation.
"Smuggler, sailor, swordsman. If you need something that isn't supposed to get into a city to get there, I can do it. Smuggling also brings pirates, so I learned how to swing a blade to...deter unwanted guests."
The large man smirked at his own comment. So far, it seemed that his colleagues had varied and useful skills. Perhaps this group wasn't going to be so difficult to bring together after all. Ashley then addressed Talanthrel's comment.
"I would think that if we do bump into some of Gargul's clergy purging Grubbertown, they would be glad for the help. We can't count on them, though. We need to look at this as if we're the only ones taking action."
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC Sunday December 14th, 2014 8:51:54 PM
(OOC: I assume Boggs addressed this other question about a place where outfits can be changed?)
Toston excuses himself and goes to a place he can change where he can change into his nondescript traveler's outfit. He then comes back into the room, wearing charcoal grey breeches and shirt and a black cloak with black cloth gloves. The kama still sits in his underarm sheath but the nunchaku and siangham were placed back in the pack.
After allowing anyone else to ask any further questions, he then says to the group, "Well it sounds like we have gleaned everything there is to be gleaned here."
To Gilmek he says, "You said something about knowing people in Grubbertown? Do you think they would be willing to open up to us if they know anything about these attacks? If so maybe we should talk to your contacts and see what turns up? Do you think they would be less likely to talk if we all went with you? Would they allow at least some of us to go with you? I would like to accompany you if you don't think it would make it less likely that they'll talk."
Avin Fellows HP:12/12 Monday December 15th, 2014 2:44:21 AM
Avin eyes the dwarf Broom curiously.
"So little. Too little. Very little. Purposefully litte?" Avin directs the question to the empty air. "Not by Boggs. Oddly contained. The problem that is. Conveniently contained problem. Just Grubtown, eh? We should move. Not enough information. The clergy may know something. Could be a good place to start. A good place."
Avin hums his agreement with himself and nods. Standing from his seat he removes his cloak and carefully sets it aside before donning his backpack. He replaces his cloak and pulls up the hood, obscuring his face.
Var Monday December 15th, 2014 10:15:54 AM
Var considers Boggs' responses, and then asks "What kind of attacks were these? People attacked in dark alleys? Home invasions?"
Seeing the other preparing to leave, Var begins to do the same. "If the people of Grubbertown are unwilling to talk, perhaps we can the scene of a recent attack? A cold trail is better than no trail..." He says while slinging his pack onto his back and shouldering his longbow.
Wilford Grimly - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nqLdGSijFI7jy_kpRsvfy6ktaNLv9tIG2tNHXkT0zBI/edit?usp=sharing Monday December 15th, 2014 11:38:52 AM
"I know a couple grubbers in GrubberTown. They are thieves and not to reputable. I spoke to them often when I was looking for information as a mercenary. Arin and Alex are their names. They are Gnomes, I believe. At least they are small enough to be. Finding them is always a bit of a chore. Finding the truth is also laborious but eventually they speak honestly. This is where I would start."
Gilmek (10/10 HP) [Briton] Monday December 15th, 2014 5:10:12 PM
Gilmek glanced at Toston and nodded. He was already finding it easier to talk with another Gnome. "It might be a good idea to take a few people with me."
Gilmek wasn't saying this because it might help the talking. Gilmek honestly would just have someone to watch his back in case someone he knew when he was a slave recognized him and tried to recapture him.
When Gilmek heard Wilford, he nodded. Those names were familiar. "Perhaps all of us should divide into two groups? One to go investigate recent attacks and the other to go talk to the Grubbers."
DM Kathy Monday December 15th, 2014 8:24:55 PM
Many of you continue discussing your skills and talents--useful information if you are to work together as a team.
Var asks about the nature of the attacks. "They all happened out on the street, as I understand," Boggs replies. "There have been no reports of undead breaking into homes."
Var also asks about specific locations. "Well," Boggs replies. "One recent one was..." he pulls a scrap of paper out of his belt pouch and consults it. "Round the corner from Old Joe's place, were Two-Shots got stabbed that one time." He looks up at you and shrugs. "Your guess is as good as mine."
"Before you leave," he adds, "I have something for you." He reaches into his satchel and pulls out a lantern, which is already lit. That's quite a trick, since the lantern does not seem to have burned the satchel in the slightest.
"That's a Continual Flame," he explains. "This lantern is like an Everburning Torch, except the fellow who made it decided he'd rather have a lantern. Take it; you can probably use a light source if you're going after undead."
He shows Toston to a small storeroom he can use to change. When you are all ready to go, Boggs says, "Remember, I'll be in the Scrum if you need me. Don't take foolish chances, but don't let those folk suffer for longer than they need to. Good luck."
Broom (HP 12/12, AC17/T17/FF14) Monday December 15th, 2014 9:46:47 PM
"Necromancer.", Broom blurts out suddenly. "Cemeteries consecrated.", before going back to his corner. Tugging his whiskers vigorously.
Ashley Steward [HP 13/13] Monday December 15th, 2014 10:12:21 PM
Ashley listens to the group discussing the various angles that they can take, standing up to strap his greatsword onto his back, and then his wet cloak over his armor. He had taken the liberty of cutting a hole in the back of the cloak wide enough to fit the hilt of his sword through when he first got it, considering his place of residence.
"I don't care one way or another. I can help drum up some information by loosening tight lips, or I can go poke around the recent attack sites with Var."
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC Monday December 15th, 2014 11:37:16 PM
Toston says to the group, "It looks like Gilmek, myself and Wil at least will go looking for people who might have seen something. Apparently having more people around will not prevent people from being open with us."
To Avin, Toston says, "Care to accompany us or are you and Broom going to check with the clerics of Gargul seeing as the two of you mentioned religion."
Talanthrel (Paul) [HP 11/11; AC 16; Touch 13; Flat 13; Cmd16] Tuesday December 16th, 2014 12:45:32 AM
Talanthrel stands as well, silently putting on his gear and taking his bow in hand. "If we are splitting up to investigate then when and where should we all meet back up? And are we splitting into two or three groups?"
Broom (HP 12/12, AC17/T17/FF14) Tuesday December 16th, 2014 4:59:43 AM
Broom shrugs and pointedly avoid giving any replies.
Avin Fellows HP:12/12 Tuesday December 16th, 2014 6:49:23 AM
Avin crosses to Boggs and lifts the lantern from his care reverently.
"I'll go to the alleys. The alleys sound promising. A third group would be reckless. Reckless indeed. I may be able to find something left behind," Avin coughs quietly, peering at Boggs around the lantern. "You're quick to trust, aren't you? No matter. No matter at all."
Shaking his head slightly, Avin crosses to stand beside Var, the lantern glowing softly in his grasp.
OOC: I went ahead with taking the lantern since light is more of an issue for a human than most other races. I'm not sure if it was intended for anyone in particular.
Var d20=12 ; Tuesday December 16th, 2014 9:33:11 AM
Var shakes his head and says "This city is too dangerous for us to split into three groups. Dwarf," Var points at Broom, "you're with me, Ashley and the Wizard."
"Is three hours enough for you guys to talk to your contacts? I'd say we meet up at Boggs' table in the Scrum."
(OOC: I'm cool with that, I was going to offer for someone else to take the lamp anyway) (OOC part 2: Ignore that d20 roll, I hit a button by accident)

Wil stood, straightened his cloak and stood over Toston and Gilmek. "I mean no disrespect but I feel a bit odd." He smiled and didn't expect a returning smile. "I've never worked with Gnomes before."
Ashley Steward [HP 13/13] Tuesday December 16th, 2014 5:20:13 PM
Ashley nodded at Var, and moved to stand with the Half-Orc. It wasn't often that he encountered those of his kind smaller than himself. The novelty was a little odd. As he waited for the others to get themselves sorted out into their group, he noted the odd speech pattern of Avin. Perhaps he was simply nervous, or bad in social situations. Or perhaps a little unhinged. The smuggler wasn't too sure about this Broom character, either. He had yet to meet a dwarf so quiet. Regardless, they were his companions now, and he was sure they would be useful in some way or another. His face remained neutral as he watched them, agreeing with the tracker.
"Indeed, the Scrum table will be ideal. It is so busy when the trading starts, it will help provide a good, high pace cover for discreet information sharing."
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC Tuesday December 16th, 2014 6:48:55 PM
"I guess that means you're with us then." Toston says to Talanthrel.
To Wil he says, "Getting information from is different than working with? You spoke of Arin and Alex, the pair of which you thought were gnomes."
To Avin he says, "Take the lantern. You are right. Gilmek, Talanthrel and I have keener senses than humans. If we need a light, well Gilmek and I can make our own, for at least a little while."
To Boggs he says, "I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding. I was not accusing you of holding out on us to be malicious or anything, I just wasn't sure if the meeting was some sort of test. We will get down to the bottom of what is happening and do our best to put a stop to it, you have my word. Also do you know an honest deckhand I can send Paul FIsher's way? I think if I work with you I may be unable to crew for him as I'll probably be too busy."
To the other group he says, "The scrum works for me. Paul Fisher sometimes sold the fish he caught there so I am familiar with it."
(OOC: My height was off from my first post Toston is actually 3 feet 8 inches tall. The hat of special magnificence is in the backpack too now. Dancing Lights FTW if need be)
Wilford Grimly Tuesday December 16th, 2014 8:09:44 PM
To Toston he say, "Well, I'm afraid our relationship is complicated but manageable. The two gnomes are brothers and tend to steal from patrons outside the many taverns within Grubbertown. We find pissed off drunks then we are likely to find both little men." Wil adjusted his braid behind his head and revealed a hint of a courtier's outfit. He quickly dropped his hands and adjusted the cloak and stepped toward the door. (OOC: Just realized I need to purchase a cloak. I have only a peasants outfit and coutier's outfit)
Gilmek (10/10 HP) [Briton] Tuesday December 16th, 2014 8:12:26 PM
Gilmek nodded as the groups were dividing up. He looked up at Wil and smiled. "No worries. This city isn't exactly filled with gnomes, so i understand, eh, somewhat." Gilmek gave Wil another look as if studying him. He then glanced at Toston. This would be a good group, if anything, to keep his back safe while he talked to the people.
DM Kathy Tuesday December 16th, 2014 8:22:41 PM
You have no further questions for Boggs, so you begin drifting out of the meeting room, adjusting your gear as you go. In the front room, Madri Brightside beams at you and tells you to have a nice day.
You decide that you are going to split the party, which is an excellent idea and not at all dangerous (insert evil DM laugh). Var, Broom, Ashley, and Avin are going to try to track down the location of a recent attack and see what clues can be found there. Gilmek, Wilford, Toston, and Talanthrel will be talking to Grubbers to try to get more information. You will meet at Boggs's table in the Scrum in three hours.
[OOC: Is that the plan?]

Avin Fellows HP:12/12 Wednesday December 17th, 2014 4:18:11 AM

OOC: Ready to head out. Scrum in 3!
Broom (HP 12/12, AC17/T17/FF14) Wednesday December 17th, 2014 9:49:10 AM

Var Wednesday December 17th, 2014 9:52:50 AM
Var looks at his three companions, the dour fighter, the silent dwarf and the possibly-mad wizard, and finds that he has nothing inspirational to say.
"Well...lets get on with it, then." he says, and heads out into the rain to find 'Old Joes' place.
Wilford Grimly Wednesday December 17th, 2014 10:03:06 AM
Wil follows the group out the door. His head is rumbling with thoughts. He hasn't been kind to the Gnomes over the years. This makes him uncomfortable. The situations were all for the greater good but he wonders if that matters in regards to humanitarian norms. The situation was worse when he was part of the political elite, well a child of. It took him many years to except his new lot in life after the murder of his mother and father.
Ashley Steward [HP 13/13] d20+1=21 ; Wednesday December 17th, 2014 1:23:39 PM
Ashley brought up the rear in his group of companions, placing himself between his smaller allies and any nefarious plans that could come upon them from behind. Many would think twice of backstabbing a group if the first member they see is a massive human with an equally sized sword. Hopefully, at least. Ashley was accustomed to violence too, if it came to that. The smuggler kept his eyes open for potential threats when he and his companions got back onto the wet, dreary streets, but otherwise he was silent, other than the jingling of his mail and thick bootstrides.
(OOC: Rolling perception. I don't know if that thing rolled once or twice, but I forgot my Wisdom modifier is why I rolled again, if it does show up twice. Posting from my mobile phone at the moment.)

To the assembled group he says, "None of you have a source named Raffles, correct? If so I would prefer to avoid him for reasons that are my own."
Gilmek (10/10 HP) [Briton] Wednesday December 17th, 2014 8:19:36 PM
Gilmek looks at Toston and nodded. "I've spoken with them a couple of times. There's a few general places that Arin likes to stay at. I'm not absolutely sure if they'll know, but they are our best bet. If they don't work, I have a few families I might be able to talk to, provided they are in a good mood."
Gilmek began to leave the building, hoping the others were following him. The specific place he was a thinking was an old house a Human lived who had the knack for giving free food if he was in a good mood. As a result, several people, including Arin, liked to hang around the spot.
"By the way, who's Raffles?" Gilmek asked.
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC Wednesday December 17th, 2014 9:25:19 PM
"Raffles is a grubber that I taught a lesson to regarding the fact that certain actions have consequences." Toston replies.
"He may have friends or the house he was collecting for may not appreciate the lesson I taught him, so it would be best if he did not see me lest he recognizes me."
DM Kathy Wednesday December 17th, 2014 10:23:14 PM
When you step outside, you see that it is still raining, as hard as ever, and wind gusts are still blowing the rain in diagonal sheets. You make your way to Grubbertown, where the gutters are not the best. The streets are wet and muddy, and getting more so by the minute. Dirty water is flowing into some of the ramshackle shanties the Grubbers call home.
Avin takes the lantern and leads the way for his group, with Var and Broom behind him, and Ashley, on alert, bringing up the rear. Ashley spies some young toughs sheltering in a doorway. They scowl at your group, then look away. Either your well-armed appearance, or the bad weather, has disuaded them from trying anything with your group.
You need to find out where this "Old Joe's place" is. And what it is. Is it a private residence? A store? A tavern? Something else? How are you going to find this place?
[OOC DM suggestions: if anyone has Knowledge: Local, now would be a good time to roll it. If anyone spent time in Grubbertown, now would be a good time to make a Wisdom check to see what you remember. Talanthrel leads the way for his group. As you proceed, Gilmek and Toston discuss strategy, while Wilford is wrapped in his own thoughts.

However, he had also recruited crew for smuggling runs here many times, and he could be certain he would do so again before he was out of the game. Half of the group is looking for the site of the last attack.
Broom tries to recall anything he's read. He doesn't remember anything about "Old Joe's place." However, he does recall something he read about cemeteries. The biggest, nicest cemetery in Dirt City is, of course, the one at the Temple of Wardd. But not everybody has the money or the influence to claim a spot there. Other, smaller cemeteries are dotted throughout the City Above. Of course, they are also supposed to be consecrated to keep the dead from rising.
Var is pretty sure he's never heard of "Old Joe," but he does vaguely recall a tale about somebody being stabbed. Well, people are always getting knifed in the City Above. But you're pretty sure this guy was called "Two..." something. Was it "Two-Shots?" Or "Two Something Else?" Anyway, you're pretty sure you never learned the exact location, but you have an idea about the general area.
Ashley doesn't much care for Grubbertown, or Grubbers, and he can't recall hearing anything about an "Old Joe" or a "Two-Shots."
Avin has spent some time in Grubbertown. But now, he's beginning to feel that his "head down; talk to nobody" strategy is working against him.
The other half of the group is seeking to ask people for information.
Talanthrel looks around, but sees no threats to the group.
Toston tries to think of anything he may have heard about this area, but comes up blank. He also sees no threats.
Wilford all of a sudden starts talking to someone who isn't there. Christopher doesn't know anything about any gnome friends. He does, however, remind you about that cemetery, not far from the water, that you passed a few times when you were going to that joint on Chokehold Street
Gilmek looks for his contacts. [OOC: Are you just walking around looking for them? Or do you have a specifc place you're leading the group, where your contacts might be found?]

Wil stood at the entrance of the cemetery. The voices from the dead escalated. He normally avoided the cemetery for this reason. The others in the party moved forward slowly as Wil stared. The voices repeated statements and the world began to blur... Wil struggled to remove the amulet from his neck but fell to his knees under the pressure. Finally, he successfully removed the amulet and tossed it upon the ground next to him. His head cleared immediately. He then placed the amulet within his bag and stood. He checked his hand crossbow and his knives and stepped into the cemetery to join the party. The rain still fell in buckets making it very hard to see any movement. "Where would they hide? Maybe in one of the crypts?" Wil raced ahead to suggest this to the group.

DM Kathy Sunday December 21st, 2014 10:23:25 PM
Half of the group is looking for the site of the last attack.
Broom mutters something about the Temple of Wardd cemetery. Var rightly points out that the Temple of Wardd is rather far from Grubbertown, and would seem to be in the wrong direction to be the source of the undead.
The spot Var is heading for is closer to the water. You lead the small group to the general vicinity, but can't pinpoint the location any further. You're pretty sure "Two-Shots" was attacked somewhere within a few blocks of here, but you don't know exactly where.
Ashley looks around for somebody to ask directions of, but it's still pouring rain, and Grubbers aren't known for their pleasant personalities. The few people Ashley sees have their heads down and are slogging determinedly through the weather.
Avin realizes that this might have been easier with a map, although Boggs didn't seem to know much about locations.
The other half of the group is seeking people to ask for information.
Wilford suggests the small cemetery he heard about from his ghost.
Toston mentions the consecrations. If this little cemetery somehow got overlooked, could it have become the source for the undead?
Gilmek agrees that there might be clues at the cemetery.
Talanthrel reminds the group that they are trying to gather information. If the undead really are coming from the cemetery, is it a good idea to go there at half strength?
However, to the cemetery you go. It seems like a good lead, even if it probably doesn't involve asking people for information.
As you turn down the street that holds the cemetery, you move past any buildings that may have acted as a windbreak. You catch the full brunt of the icy wind that comes rushing up from the Lotophagi, driving the rain right into your faces.
The cemetery is a small, isolated plot of land. The few shacks that are nearby seem to be for storage--not dwellings. At one time, the cemetery was surrounded by a wrought-iron fence, but sections of it have fallen. There is a small chapel on the far edge of the cemetery.
As you get closer, you see that something is wrong. Several headstones have fallen over, and the ground looks to have been disturbed in several places. You don't see any actual undead, but it would appear that they came from here.

Plus, if this is where it is happening then I suggest we wait for the rest of the party."

Toston shifts his potion from his pack to his pocket as well. Even though he is happy that Wil seems to have come to his senses, Toston doesn't want to be delayed in reaching the potion should he need it. Spotting the disturbed graves are probably enough to make this mission a success. While they were have supposed to ask people for information Toston thinks this most likely accomplishes their mission even if they talked to no one. He just feels irresponsible leaving the area entirely in case the undead responsible for the attacks come back or leave from the cemetery.
To his half of the group he says, "Should we try to get the other half of our group's attention somehow? I can use prestidigitation. I may be able to do something with it that may be visible from outside our area. I feel irresponsible leaving this area now that we know it has something to do with the attack. Even if we regroup at the tavern, we should still probably have someone watch the cemetery for signs of activity."
(OOC: Sent Kathy an email about using Prestidigitation to simulate burning hands like Pru in Agents of the Fist did, trying to hopefully come up with something to get the other groups attention w/o having to wait 3 hours / going to the table in the scrum. )

Half of the group has come upon a cemetery.
Talanthrel peers through the rain for signs of life. Is that a light, flickering in the window of the chapel? Difficult to tell.
Wilford senses danger here, and suggests the group retire to a tavern.
Toston is also uneasy about the idea of going into the cemetery at half strength. He uses a Prestidigitation spell to create an arc of flame, hoping to signal the other group.
The other half of the group is looking for the site of one of the attacks.
Broom looks for clues, but the stone is of little help. And any other clues, to be realistic, have probably been erased by the rain at this point.
Var is beginning to think this was not a good idea. It is nearly impossible to track anything in this kind of weather.
Ashley remains on alert, his gaze up and outward, rather than down at the ground. And so it is Ashley who first sees the arc of flame. It doesn't look like real flame. For one thing, it has a shimmery, illusive quality. And for another thing, it's pouring rain. Yet there it is, arcing into the rainy sky, about four blocks south of your current location.

DM Kathy Tuesday December 23rd, 2014 11:31:41 PM Avin, Ashley, Broom, and Var begin heading in the direction of the strange-looking flame.
When you arrive, you see the the flame is being cast skyward by the gnome, Toston. Wilford, Talanthrel, and Gilmek are all there as well. The party is together once more.
To remind you of what you are looking at, you are on a part of the street that has few houses, only sheds and storage, and a few vacant lots. There is a small cemetery here, which was once surrounded by a wrought-iron fence. Sections of the fence have fallen. Several gravestones have toppled; several more stand at random angles. The ground is churned up in places. At the far side of the cemetery is a small chapel. It's hard to be sure, but Talanthrel thought he saw a light in the window.

DM Kathy Sunday January 4th, 2015 9:19:36 PM
After some discussion, you enter the cemetery. You disagree a little about priorities, but really, it's all about the same. You need to check out the tumbled cemetery, then see what's going on in the chapel.
As you move through the cemetery, you begin to think that maybe the rain is easing off.
Moving cautiously, you examine the graves and the tumbledown headstones. There are definitely signs that something crawled out of some of the graves. But you see nothing to indicate that the undead are still here. Nearby, probably. Almost certainly. But not here.
You work your way toward the chapel, and now you can all see it--there is definitely a light flickering in the window.

Wil opens his coat revealing several silver daggers. He grabs a dagger for each hand and steps through the chapel door. (Stealth d20 + 6)
Talanthrel (Paul) [HP 11/11; AC 16; Touch 13; Flat 13; Cmd16] d20+4=5 ; Tuesday January 6th, 2015 9:36:45 PM
Talanthrel moves thru the Door and immediately steps to the right out of the way of anyone else following thru the door. Taking up a guard position he scans the room for threats (Perception 5 [1d20+4]) But was easily distracted by the movements of the others.
DM Kathy Tuesday January 6th, 2015 10:21:36 PM Broom approaches cautiously and evaluates the stonework. It's not very good, even by human standards. It is keeping the rain out, so you suppose that's something. Any dwarven craftsman would be ashamed of the place, though. You see no signs of traps or secret doors.
Avin uses a cantrip to open the door.
Toston looks through the open door, but sees no movement. Well, not until his companions brush past him on their way in.
Wilford and Talanthrel, both ready for trouble, step into the small chapel. You see that the flickering light comes from a candle, set next to a grimy window. The room is funished with simple benches set before a small shrine. Knowledge Religion DC 10 Highlight to display spoiler: { It's a shrine to Ffloy, the Woldian god of prosperity through hard work, planning, and responsibility. Ffloy is not terribly popular in Dirt City} [OOC: Knowledge checks with a DC of 10 or less can be done untrained.] The place smells of old incense and sour wine.
Between the benches and the wall is a figure of a man, facedown on the floor, motionless.
Broom (HP 12/12, AC17/T17/FF14) d20=4 ; Wednesday January 7th, 2015 12:58:34 AM
Not particularly religious, Broom peers at the scene in puzzlement.
Var AC: 16 (T:13/FF:13) d20-1=3 ; d20+8=28 ; d20+6=9 ; Wednesday January 7th, 2015 9:57:17 AM
Var moves in behind the group, his instincts trying to keep himself silent, but his adrenaline pushing him faster than means to (Stealth: 9). Once into the chapel he takes a long, deliberate sweep of the room, trying to find something out of place that might indicate what may have happened here. (Perception: 28).
He's somewhat disappointed that the chapel is empty, or nearly so, and considers the shrine for a moment (Knowledge(Religion): 3) but doesn't give it much thought.
"Hrmf." he grunts, and lowers his bow.
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC d20+1=14 ; d20+3=14 ; Wednesday January 7th, 2015 6:40:11 PM
Toston enters the Shrine. He pauses for a moment, taking it in(Untrained Know Religion : 14) and says to his companions, "This is a chapel of Ffloy. From what I understand He isn't too popular in Dirt City. I don't think hard work, planning and responsibility sit well with everyone in the city."
He notices the still form on the ground and checks it for signs of life (Untrained Heal Check :14) and if there is anything can be done to help it.
Wilford Grimly d20=3 ; d20=13 ; Wednesday January 7th, 2015 8:45:58 PM
(Untrained Know Religion: 13) Wil didn't care much for popularity. Anything potentially useful was interesting to him. He searched the shine disturbing the dust that sat under the gold monuments upon the shine.
Talanthrel (Paul) [HP 11/11; AC 16; Touch 13; Flat 13; Cmd16] d20+4=15 ; Wednesday January 7th, 2015 9:06:48 PM
Talanthrel agrees with Toston "He definitely does not sound like he would be a popular Deity in these parts." While talking Talanthrel scans the room for any other exits (Perception 15 [d20+4]).
DM Kathy Wednesday January 7th, 2015 10:15:56 PM Broom isn't sure about the shrine. It is Toston who realizes it is a shrine to Ffloy, and tells the others.
Wilford peers eagerly at the shrine, looking for religious treasure. Alas, this is a poor shrine in a poor part of town, and the few feeble trinkets aren't worth the effort.
Talanthrel looks for other doors, and sees one next to the shrine. It isn't clear where it leads.
Var looks around to see what might have happened here. He sees a mostly empty bottle of wine, not far from the man's outstretched hand, where it had apparently rolled under a bench. And now that his companions are a bit quieter, he hears a distinct snore.
Toston kneels down to check on the man, and verifies that he is alive, apparently uninjured, and merely sleeping. Or, more likely, passed out drunk.
Var AC: 16 (T:13/FF:13) d20+6=16 ; d20+8=15 ; Thursday January 8th, 2015 2:43:06 PM
Crossing the room to the other door as quietly as his wet, mud-caked boots will allow (Stealth: 16), Var listens at the door (Perception: 15) to see if anyone, living or dead, waits in the next room.
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:9/9; AC:18; Touch: 18; FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC Thursday January 8th, 2015 7:13:38 PM
Toston takes out his water skin and splashes some water on the man's face in an attempt to wake him up.
"Excuse me, sir. I am sorry to disturb your rest, but we need to ask you some questions about some recent undead attacks in the area." He says to the man.
Wilford Grimly Thursday January 8th, 2015 7:42:12 PM
Wil stands near the passed out man, daggers ready as Toston awakens him. "Certainly, won't be a fan of waking up that way," he thinks to himself.
Broom (HP 12/12, AC17/T17/FF14) Thursday January 8th, 2015 8:10:04 PM
Broom clutches his broom nervously as he peers at the man from a relatively safe distance.
Ashley Steward [HP 13/13] Thursday January 8th, 2015 9:17:36 PM
Ashley, ever the talkative one, moved along with the rest of the party as they inspected first the graveyard, and now the chapel. The smuggler looked down upon the drunk lying down snoring, a light chuckle coming from the large human. His eyes wandered the chapel for a few moments, but his gaze was soon drawn back to the man that was now wet from Toston's improvised deluge, his hand on the hilt upon his back in case the drunkard decided to become the sort of fool that attacks a well armed host.
