Staying late at the Squids Ink .... Peza enjoys the party .. eating , drinking her fill .... all the while making new friends of the locals .....
Gerox feels a new power and knowledge filling him and turns into a large eagle. He spreads his wings and flaps them experimentally before launching himself into the air, climbing above the city in slow lazy circles. When he gets up to 1000 feet he sees there are still tents, but they are set up on the outskirts of the city. The city itself is mostly complete, with new buildings being erected around the outside of what he recalls to be the planned city of Rum. To the East and West are cheap and hastily constructed dwellings for the new influx of people whereas those to the North are more lavishly built and clearly being constructed for those with money.
Approaching Caisy, Tuesday. After explaining the situation to her he slips 20 gold pieces and some silver into ones of her palms. When she realizes that it was damaged in the rescue of the children, and that Tuesday is not only repairing the cart, but giving her enough extra to expedite the process so it can be done in a day, any anger that might have been there subsides. To top things off, the silver is enough to buy all her remaining bread and allow her to enjoy the rest of the night guilt free. I...I don't believe this. Thank you! Come by any time, and have a loaf on me. You eat on the house!
Barratore stays at the Squid's Ink until drinking and drinking. He has lost count of how many beers he has had, but the inky black sky tells him it is till many hours to morning.
Brom listens to the cleric. He understands what she was trying to do, but it doesn't change the fact, in Brom's mind, the people of the city had become darker.
Edson sneaks into the inn through a separate entrance, trying to stay away from the party and his friends. There he finds two small chests containing 18,000gp, his reward for returning Cinnaminsen and an additional bonus from "The City of Rum" for "Services Rendered To The Community" signed Hellsha (all player will find similar chests in their room. For those that have not kept track of your gold, you should not be at lvl 10 WLB ie. 62,000gp total). Going up to his room he crawls into bed and falls into a deep sleep. Many hours later he awakes to darkness and stares out the window. It is still night, but the street is full and the people are still drinking and partying...yet he find himself fully refreshed...
Gerox, flying over the city suddenly comes to the strange realization that he spent many hours studying and prepared a new spell, but it is still deepest night out...
Tuesday Barratore and Brom continue drinking, growing ever more tired and fatigued. Far more tired than they should be, considering the sun has not begun to show itself yet...

If there are still people about the Squid, then Barratore stays. When the party at the Squid winds down, he heads for home. The fighter notices little as he makes his way home and does not register the chests at all as he quickly removes his armor, drops his sword and scabbard to the floor and falls into bed.
Sometime later he wakes, makes his way to a water basin and splashes himself more fully alert. He glances at the chests, grabs a few coins and heads to breakfast. He'll figure out what is in them later. Barratore looks for coffee, bread and Peza.

Walking home munching on a loaf of Caisy's delicious bread, Tuesday ponders the evening's events and watches partiers whooping it up. He finds an unexpectedly nice deposit from the city et al. in his secure delivery door as he gets home and places it in his safe, mentally tallying up his fortune. He then sits down to the satisfaction of keeping up on his business paperwork, finishes and goes to bed in time to get two hours rest before rising at his habitual hour before dawn to pray. He is quite surprised to note that the sun does not brighten the sky as he finishes his meditations, however, and looks at the sky in unsettled consternation.

Back at the WLA he locates anyone awake. He runs into Barratore. "Somethin's wrong. Sun should be up by now, ya think?"

Gerox starts getting tired and notices that the night is lasting a long time but isn't very concerned about it, having lost track of time as he enjoys the new sensation of flying. He will swoop down in a dive and scream an eagle's scream of joy as he plummets. He will flare out and land on his (the Inn's) roof and transform back into a gnome. He will head down to his room and be surprised by the gold. "Nice" he thinks. I will have to think on some cool magic to buy with it.
He settles into his bed and quickly drifts off to sleep

As the darkness presses on you roll around fitfully in your beds, untired and unable to fall back asleep. One by one you wake up. Some of you prepare spells while others head down for a late night snack. Suddenly Brom returns, "Somethin's wrong. Sun should be up by now, ya think?" At first it seems ridiculous, but the more you think about it the harder it is to dismiss.
As you discuss the matter Gerox and Tuesday come downstairs, their meditations and spell preparations complete. Religion and the arcane tell them that this would not be possible if 24 hours had not passed since their last preparing, which means the sun should have risen by now.
Outside the city has retreated into a spectral silence, an unspoken fear settling over the city. The flowers remain retreated into themselves and even the animals that have awaken move about in unnatural silence. Although dim torchlight still bathes the streets, it casts eerie flittering shadows that dance about the cobblestones and does little to keep back the unnatural darkness that blocks out any hint of the sun.
As you sit together down stairs you realize the truth of Brom's words. Something is wrong. Very wrong.

Reaching out with his mind, Tuesday touches base with his mentor and senior business partner Grizzlefix, a regular practice but made more urgent by the matters at hand today. He jests and then gets more serious "I guess I'll have some tea instead, then. But I agree, this must be investigated. Does anyone have more information from last night? Gerox, you spoke with the judge, right?"

Slowly you make your way to the docks. In your minds you know I is just as dark as when you left them, but somehow the unnaturalness if this extended night sets your hair to standing on end and everything seems wrong. Plants are already beginning to wilt. The normal night sounds of crickets and frogs have ceased, but most disturbing are three stray dogs you pass. The appear to be walking in a line, single file. At one point they all stop and turn their heads in unison to stare at you before running off.
After a long walk in the torchlit darkness you finally arrive at the harbor. Looking around you see several ashen fire pits. Bits of shrimp shells litter the streets and the air is filled with the smell of smoke and spilled beer. In the distance you can see the Squid's Ink tavern, which is still open.
No evil is immediately apparent, but as you approach and ponder your next move you suddenly remember Salty's drunken rambling...These times are grievous. The whole world is in turmoil because it has become worse than at the time of the deluge! Everything is in suspense, like a thread; when this thread breaks, the justice of the gods will fall like a thunderbolt and will complete its terrible course of purification.
That memory causes Brom to recall something Harper told him...To sacrifice the innocent like that.... it's a bad omen, ya know. He is letting Grizzlefix know to put the word out to the network that he's looking for quotes on wholesale quantities of merciful weapons (so that he can pitch their use by the elite guard to the city council and be able to submit a bid.) This could be considered a use of the wholesaler Venturer ability to gain access to sources/markets, but I figured the way he's using it right now is pretty RP-based so I hadn't rolled. In case you'd like me to, I made a profession: merchant check in order to use the ability and got a 47 (nat 20))

Gerox turns to Tuesday and says, "The Judge basically clammed up when the pressure was off. I was tempted to roast him a little but thought better of it. It seems the Judge was a new recruit and didn't really know to much about the organization yet. I think we frightened him off it but he will bear watching in the future."
Gerox walks along and then snaps his fingers, and says, "Do you remember that poem we found in the vampire's house. It sort of predicted this. I think we might be dealing with a larger long term plan. Remember the poem?

Brom takes out a block of tobacco and cuts a piece while thinking of recent events. "Huh..." He says at all the talk about a poem.
Harper's words strike harder than a giant's club. "I'm gonna go find Harper." He says sticking a wad in his mouth. "I think the Gargul cleric may know something 'bout this sign. He mention somethin' 'bout signs, dark rituals and stuff like that. Time for him to tell more."
Brom will move off towards the temples.

Barratore looks about, seemed most them had a plan of actin of some kind and they all sounded good and they all involved finding someone. Something Barratore was not good at. Two of the people were clerics and thus the temple district was a good starting point. "So we're splitting up into teams?" He looks to Peza to divide the group and then moves smartly out with whatever group he is assigned into.

Tuesday recalls reading about a poem after the league adventurer's defeated a vampire, perhaps in log the group keep somewhere. He tries to think if he knows of a fixer named Jacaret, and recalls his contacts mentioning that names in the past. Jacaret created much of the finer architecture in the city, and that meant fine materials and furnishings for those building. Tuesday suddenly gets a response from Grizzlefix. Highlight to display spoiler: { Darkness? Invest in light and food. Perishables will not last. Biloopl...unknown. Will research. Living spells...naturally formed...raw magic corrupted by terrain. Control, uncertain. Any advancement in this area? Merciful weapons quote in morning. Will require bulk order.} ooc: What spell or ability are you mentally communicating with?

Travel to the temple of Alemi is slow. Although you have traveled at night before, tonight the ground is littered with more debris than normal, and the enduring darkness will make clean up a difficult task. The unusual silence seems to make the sound of your feet echo loudly off the cobble stones and down the street, and there seems to be a strange chill in the air.
Upon arriving at the temple, you see the doors have been closed. It is full to capacity as many fearful followers have already sought sanctuary inside. One of the clerics stands on the steps and greets you. Alemi's grace be with you this dark day. I am afraid we can shelter no more inside, however we have no reason to believe there is anything to fear outside. Is there anything else we may do for you?
upon asking about Jacaret the man nods solemly. Yes, it was a sad day for us when he died. He was a good man, and the sight of his silver cloak brought joy to many. He was a skilled architect, and known for his generosity. That was why we contacted the city for help.
As he speaks you realize that you know exactly who he was talking about. You met the man with the silver cloak and symbol of Alemi many times. He bought you drinks and gave a toast to Theringer after his death. You then recall what you were told before your encounter with the vampires. Several merchants and political leaders have vanished. Most recently was a rather liked fixer responsible for much of the finer architecture in the city. You realize now that Jacaret was that fixer, and suddenly the letter makes too much sense. He would be telling no one anything anymore.

Edson, Gerox and Brom make their way to find Harper. As you move town the road to where she stays, you realize there isn't really any sort of temple to Gargul on the island as there is a small shack in which she dwells. You see her kneeling in the darkness, praying. Her gray cloak only serves to make everything appear even darker around her. When she is done she listens quietly to your questions. Aye, I did say such a sacrifice would be a bad omen. I have heard of such things, but I wasn't expectin this. Just being melodramatic, ya know? I will look into the matter. It might take me a while, but I will leave word for ya at the WLA if I find anything...In the mean time, ya might be tryin speakin with the Dread Elder. He gives me a bit of the jeebies to tell you the truth. He just came in on a recent ship, and has been helping me with my studies in the mean time. If ya want to see him, his house is on the new side of town. It's not a nice place, but I don't think he was planning to stay here long. Those Dreads tend to be on the move a lot, and are a secretive bunce.
ooc: Since Jacaret is dead I suggest bringing the parties back together, just to keep things simpler.

Having investigated your individual leads you meet back up close to the WLA. Your environment continues to extend into the unnatural with a dome of darkness surrounding you. Never before have you seen robing swooping around in the dark like bats, and everywhere glowing eyes reflect your torch light. Although you know they are mostly cats, something about them is unsettling.
Tuesday follows along with the others, pensive and observant. As the darkness closes in about you, you cast light on your headband, instantly lighting up the road. You manage to push the darkness back 20ft, but it still persists in the distance to obscure your vision.
Gerox sighs, "Looks like we need to see the creepy Dread guy." He is glad to be going together as a large group. This doesn't sound like the type of person you want to split your party before meeting.
Peza explains to the others that "Jacaret is no longer of this wold .... we need to find more answers ..... hopefully the Cleric of Gargul will be able to help us .... "
Once again you find yourselves making your way down the cobblestone path. The smell of rotting fish is ever growing as the shells of last nights dinner get crushed underfoot and picked at by scavengers. The going is slower than normal in the dark, and you find yourselves feeling the need to be more cautious, sure anyone hiding in the night would see your light approaching long before you could spot the,
Eventually you find yourselves outside a small and hastily put together wooden house. The craftsmanship is poor and you are sure despite its recent construction that it will be needing repairs before the year is out. The door is open and swinging slightly in the breeze. On it is painted a black eye, and you can see the flickering light of an oil lamp burning inside.

The unatural darkness was starting to get to Barratore. not in a way that made him afraid, but in a an unsure of his environment and footing type of way. His sense of balance and perception were thoroughly off and he found himself checking his footing with nearly every step.
Arriving at the house, Barratore looks about and notices nothing but gloom, darkness and what seems to be the home of one who is homeless. He looks over to Peza and Tuesday, "Is this pile of crap it? Would think a cleric would have a bit more pride in his calling"

Looks like the groups only option now is the Dread guy. He falls in line as the group moves out into the darkness. The darkness seems a little unsettling as the continual darkness envelopes them. They arrive at the house they were told about. Brom keeps a watchful eye out for anything out in the darkness.

The unatural darkness starts getting to Barratore as you approach the house. As he stares at the poorly and hastily constructed be wonder aloud "Is this pile of crap it? Would think a cleric would have a bit more pride in his calling" However he realizes that nicer lodging is likely hard to find and not cheap. Buildings are being constructed at break neck speed, and many people are willing to settle for a poorly crafted building until something more suitable can by found.
Tuesday answers in response, "Some are called to focus elsewhere than their appearances, I'm certain he looks more impressive from the other side." From what he can recall, Grim's tend to move around a lot, depending on where they are needed.
Brom falls in line as the group moves out into the darkness. As you arrive at the Dread house he keeps a watchful eye out for anything out in the darkness.
Peza stands outside the Dread's home .... seeing the door fluttering in the breeze and steps forward .... Knocking on the door " Hello ? anybody home ?? Harper mentioned your whereabouts ... "

Peza calls into the house, and only silence answers. Cautiously the ranger moves forward, pushes open the door and steps into the room. The door creaks loudly, as if to announce her presence. The room appears empty despite the glowing lamp and every bit like something you would expect from a person referred to as "Dread".
The room is mostly barren and bathed in the flickering shadows that seem to dance across the wall. In one corner is a hideous organ composed of 6 feet of tortured wood flecked with ivory, bone and gild and the sides are wrapped in panels of garish red fabric. On the dining table sits the burning oil lamp which casts its shadows across the floor. As you follow the shadows your eyes are drawn to a long one coming from a support beam. You are not sure why at first, but as you focus on it you spot a glimmer of light. On the support post a silver hand mirror has been attached by an old iron nail, and it is the light shining from it that draws your attention. On the other side of the room barely visible and out of reach of the fading lamp light is a small straw bed that has been neatly made, even if it was made with an ancient gray blanket old enough to have see the last cataclysm.

Stepping to the front of the doorway Gerox lets his eyes lips out of focus and scans the area for lingering magical auras. At first he sees nothing, but then, among the dancing shadows he sees a wafting dark aura. It appear to start at the post, around the nail and emanates into and throughout the room.

After relaying his findings Peza enters, followed close behind by Tuesday. The floor boards creak nosily and a cold draft blows through the room, and Tuesday catches a fleeting glimps of a gray mouse scurrying away as you approach.
Edson does his best to keep to the shadows, an easy task the lightless day, and he finds himself nearly invisible as he approaches a dark corner while Brom and Barratore wait outside and keep an eye out for trouble. Several times they catch the yellow glint of eyes as a roaming cat or dog pass, their eyes glowing ghostly yellow in the reflecting light.

Gerox studies the magic around him and says to the others, There is some kind of abjuration spell that is blocking the ability for dimensional travel. No teleporting, or dimension dooring in here. I am not seeing any wards but that doesn't mean that their aren't any. I am not comfortable just storming in here. We wouldn't like it if someone just entered our rooms and we are here to ask for assistance. Maybe we should wait outside or come back some other time."

Barratore's voice echoes unanswered throughout the sparsely furnished house. [b]Dread...dread...dread...dead... He is right, this is not the best of neighborhood and the swinging door is an ominous sign. Edson hugs the walls and searches to see if anything sticks out. Nothing new jumps out at him within the room, other than the dancing shadows, but he does notice that the latch which should be keeping the door shut has been broken.
A sudden gust of wind slams the door. The mirror rattles, the red fabric panels covering the organ billow slightly, and the lamp blows out filling the room with the acrid smell of smoke. If it was not for the unnatural gloom enveloping the city, forcing you to light your own way, you would have found yourself in complete darkness.

If we could find a stray hair or three or some personal belonging I could try scrying on his location, but I don't like the idea of taking any of his stuff and we don't know whose hair we'd even be picking up... pretty iffy. I could try using sending to send him a message, but I never met the guy..." His face shows a bit of consternation and he scratches his head

Adrenaline blasts through Barratore as the door slams and he does a complete 360, taking in the door and then the rest of the room in a quick spin. "Stray hair? What about the mirror?" Barratore suggests as he walks over to the organ and slides the red fabric about looking at the surface wood underneath of it. "This Dread is supposed to be a good guy or at least not on the Unholy One's side right? His place is deserted and the door was broken in. "
Barratore sets an Everburning torch on the organ to free up his hands and searches about for anything tucked away in or around it. Search the organ Take 20 Perception 25 If he finds nothing, he pushes a few keys on the far left

Barratore heads in, but Brom stays outside. He doesn't like the area and he's more likely to deter would be attackers than most of the others.
The winds blows. The door slams. Brom's weapon is in his hands and his eyes are scanning the darkness. The barbarian looks about eyes wide, non-blinking, non-moving searching for trouble. The only sound is the occasional spit of tobacco juice onto the ground coming from Brom.

If there is no response he goes over to the bed and searches around for stray hairs, making sure to check whether any that he finds seem to match one another.

Gerox literally jumps when the door slams and he to prepares a spell for battle waiting for a target to show itself. He lets the others talk and continues scanning the room with his detect magic spell. He walks around looking at the various items looking for clues.
"Why would a anti teleport spell be set up? Someone trying to keep the Grim from running? Did someone beat us here? Everyone stand behind me please, I want to try something."
When they are all behind him, Gerox will cast a glitterdust spell looking for invisible folks.

Recap:
Tuesday jumps a little as the door slams, and suggests finding a personal item to do some form of locating spell. Edson's body jumps a bit at the door slamming, and whispers, "The latch was broken" Barratore does a 360 as the door slams, then walks to the organ and sets an everburning torch on it. Brom stays outside and pulls out his weapon. (which one?) Gerox literally jumps when the door slams and he to prepares a spell for battle, and wonders about the binding spell in the area and if someone else got here first.
New: As those in the room begin to search about, there is a slight breeze beginning to blow outside and through the small cracks between the plank walls of the shack. The general fishy smell that permeates the entire area of Rum seems to be strengthening, you really didn't notice a change while you were partying last well can't say night, because the sun never rose, so, it would be the last waking time I guess.
Tuesday looks for some personal item, there is nothing major in the room, just some random clothes, like a sock behind the cot, a eating knife that was tucked under the straw mattress, the silver mirror hanging on the center post, which is also used as one of the legs for the cot, as well as holding up the roof. Edson examines the latch closer, it looks like it was forced, but there are no tool marks around it. Barratore searches the organ, and finds a piece of parchment with what looks like music notes scribbled on it, like someone was trying to write down some music. Brom still outside notices the fishy smell more than those inside. He keeps watch and he keeps thinking he sees stuff moving in the distance, but then the shadows fade as he moves closer and he realizes it's just the flickering of the flames that is causing the movements he sees at the edges of the light. Gerox looks around for traces of someone else having gotten to the shack before the party, other than the broken latch, he just doesn't notice anything. Having cast glitterdust in the room, those inside please making a saving throw vs Gerox's spell, unless you accept the effect. (DC 17 Will save to avoid) Shortly after the spell goes off, the breeze increases and some of the wall boards creak, giving the "chills" every once in a while to everyone. A soft very low moaning note begins to emanate from the organ as the breeze picks up. Gerox calls for everyone to clear out as he is going to cast a spell. Barratore moves back and lets the spell caster do his thing. Barratore then moves back into the room, "Nothing here that i can see." The wind picks up and expecting something bad to happen, Barratore's hand goes to his sword. The walls creak and his hackles rise, and the fur down his back bristles under his armor. The sudden bang startles him and with a yelp his blade whisks from its sheath.
"Keep up the tricks and you will be sorry for them" he growls to no one but beginning to think some triskster is having his fun with them.

Tuesday hears Gerox's warning and starts to turn around, holding a smelly old sock in his hand, and catches a faceful of swirling dust. "wha.. Gah! Ack!" He sputters and puts his arms up in front of his face blindly just as a lound BANG from the ceiling startles the distressed cleric. His body surges and he jumps forward into the post in the middle of the room with a comical WHAP, falling backwards directly onto his butt as the smelly old sock flips through the air several times, lands squarely on his head and droops over his face.

Edson frowns at Gerox when the glitterdust coats his skin and prevents him from hiding in the shadows.
"Thanks, Gerox. Next time you want to do your job remind me to smash your fingers" the rogue says with a laugh.
With the hiding useless, he moves into the center of the room to look around more. When the banging on the roof starts, it doesn't startle Edson, but he does look up to make sure it isn't footsteps on the roof.

The wind begins to build and the roof begins to shake and Brom's muscles tense at the sudden sound but his eyes continue to scan outward, only pausing to note the roof. He moves a little away from the building, 10-ft or so, just in case.

:::Recap::: Barratore jumps at the banging of the roof boards. Peza sees no lights on in the neighbor hood, it's not really a very high quality area. Tuesday ends up on the floor, with the old sock on his head after getting dusted with a magic spell. Edson also gets hit with the spell, and he looks up as the board begins to bang. Brom moves a few feet away from the shack, hoping it won't collapse on him. Gerox gets the results of the glitterdust spell, it reviles no one other than party members inside the shack.

It's obvious that the shack is in need of some repairs, there are a couple of roof boards that are starting to slap up and down in the wind, causing the banging, a few wall boards are also vibrating in the wind as well, adding to the creepy sounds emanating from around the shack. The low off key note from the organ gets louder as the wind continues to increase. Brom only Highlight to display spoiler: { Perception 27 or Survival 23 please, If successful read next spoiler} Do Not Read, unless Directed to.Highlight to display spoiler: { The wind seems to be blowing towards the shack, from all the directions you can check without going around the block.} Looking around the room again, you see the organ, which is not playing an irritating sound, upon which is a candle which is burned to about 2 inches with a puddle of wax around it. The old sock Tuesday is holding. A few other random odds and ends as well as the silver mirror hanging on the center post and the eating knife found under the straw mattress. There really isn't much in the Grim's shack of a building, it must be a lonely life for him. Any non magical lights are flickering quite a lot in the wind inside the shack, the boards are making even more noise it seems....

Barratore retrieves his torch from the organ and pushes down on a few keys. This was all out of his realm of knowledge. He knew nothing about why such wards and spells were their, or what a Grim was. Well other than a cleric of Gargul. Looking about though he decided there was one thing out of place in the poverty stricken shack that the homeless would avoid. With that thought, Barratore moves overk to the mirror, takes it from the post and walks outside.
"Nothing in here, I say we head back. I got Tuesday's needed possession"

Tuesday blinks the dust out of his eyes, shakes his head and stands up, dusting himself off and straightening his clothes. "A-hem!" He clears his throat, stuffs the sock in his pocket, glances about and grabs the knife from under the bed and heads quickly out the door. The wind was acting odd. It seemed to be converging on the cabin...a trap? The roof of the small house was rattling more and more as the wind picked up and the converging gale started to take a toll on the structure.
"Hey, get out of there...NOW!" Shouts the barbarian to those in the house. "Wind's gonna lift the house away or crush it!"
Brom backs away a few more yards (15-ft).

:::Recap::: Tuesday gets up, shoves the sock into a pocket and grabs the eating knife and then quickly heads for the door. Peza says, "Hmm this seems like a dead end ..." Says a few more things and then finishes up with " someone grab that piece of parchment .... might be a clue we can decipher later" Brom notices the wind and shouts out "Hey, get out of there...NOW! Wind's gonna lift the house away or crush it!" Edson wonders what Brom is talking about, but decides it must be important and heads for the door, because there are no windows. Barratore grabs his torch with his left hand and quickly moves to the middle of the shack and grabs the mirror off the center support pole.

All of a sudden, the organ stops moaning that off key note, the shack walls stop creaking in the wind and the roof boards stop slapping up and down. Everyone continues on their way out of the shack, the wind outside is dead still, it feels like it does in a swamp, where no breeze has blown for weeks, it's got that oppressive uneasy feeling to the area in general, even more than before you entered the cabin. You all look around to see what else is going on, and you realize Barratore is still inside the cabin. You look back inside and Barratore is standing at the center support pole, his hand, reaching out is grasping the mirror. He is not moving at all.... The stillness inside the shack gives you all chills, like you just walked across someones grave, it's extremely unsettling.
Barratore this is for you. Highlight to display spoiler: { As you touch the mirror, there is a sudden flash of grayish green light, almost like a strobe light effect, but everything seems to stop when the blackness comes into effect. You feel as if the world about you is simultaneously spinning and wobbling, you want to fall over but you are unable to move a muscle. the black slowly fades to various shades of gray (like watching a 50's tv show) The world seems to come into some sort of focus, but it has a hazy appearance to it like trying to look through steamed up glasses that you can't remove. You eventually notice it's not all black and white, there are ruddy brownish rivulets flowing in odd places and coming together into small streams and they seem to eventually flow together as well, but they get to far away to see by that time. Suddenly there is a clenching in your chest, like something is grabbing it tightly and refusing to let go. By the time you are starting to get used to that feeling, you seem to zoom across the landscape, you haven't moved a muscle, but you are moving faster than you've ever moved before, but not moving at all. (picture the weapons room in the matrix and you are the shelves) You are suddenly standing near by a man in tattered clothes, wearing a holy symbol to Gargul and off in the distance at the very edge of your vision there is something tiny headed your way.... Gerox rushes out of the cabin with the others and looks back surprised when he sees Barratore standing by the pole. Gerox without thought runs back into the room and grabs hold of Barratore and shakes him trying to break his gaze with the mirror. "BARRATORE! IT IS ME, GEROX!!!! Look at me!"

Barratore stands transfixed in front of the mirror, unmoving, uncaring for the Wold about him
....Barratore growls, teeth clenched, willing himself through the pain and panic. His mind settles some, his stomach settles more. He forces his eyes closed as the landscape rips past to lower the input to his brain. Opening them fully he gives the tattered clothed cleric of gargul a once over. The creature coming in the distance is not familiar and he decides to ignore it for now.
"You're Dread aren't you?" he asks and states to the cleric. "I'm Barratore and with the WLA from Rum. Peza needs to talk to you about what's going on in the city." He glances towards the closing creature, "Sooner is better than later"

"Crap!" Brom moves into the cabin to get Barratore. "What'n heck ya think yur doin'?"
If Barratore doesn't answer, Brom will lift the minotaur (using rage if he has to) and carry him outside the cabin.
ooc: Brom can lift 1400 pound off the ground while not raging and if raging, he can lift 1200 over his head and 2400 pounds off the ground.

Tuesday asks if Barratore is OK.... casting his spell he tries determine if there is any magic. Peza says don't touch him, and says he's touching the mirror.... Gerox grabs Barratore's arm and tries to shake him. Brom moves into the room and since Barratore won't answer tries to lift him and move him out of the room. Barratore, see below (no more spoilers, just everyone remember you won't know it unless Barratore tells it.)
Tuesday gets a fairly strong abjuration spell emanating from Barratore. Gerox discovers it's almost as if Barratore has become a solid part of the room, his arm won't move at all. Brom, grunts and strains, the cords of his neck and shoulders stand out with the effort he is putting into lifting Barratore, he also discovers that Barratore now seems to be part of the Wold, unmoving.
Barratore, you try to draw a weapon, you can't move a muscle, it's like you are a statue, same effect for trying to talk, it's not happening.
The creature in the distance finally reviles itself as an Imp, what is Dread, doing meeting with a Imp? The Imp is obviously headed toward the Dread, it avoids the ruddy brown streams flowing about and comes to a stop a couple feet away from The Dread's feet.
It approaches "Dread Nortiln! I know you. You have served Bossy Man well." The cleric smiles. "Gimp, it has been a long time. Please, I must see the Lord of Life and Death. There has been a grave mistake. I was put to death for a crime I did not commit, and I have much work to do yet for Gargul. I fear Conti is trying to subvert his power for the Father of the Deep. Please, after all I have done for The Unblinking Eye of Gargul, I must be allowed to clear my name and stop him." The imp hops from foot to foot. "He is not happy. You misplaced your shadow, and he is maaaad. Don't tell Bossy Man I warned you....just don't tell Bossy Man."
The Imp says more to the Dread but you can't hear him even though you are right next to them, the haziness about begins to fade to black, the tightness in your chest tightens back so much you can't breath and are beginning to grasp for air, you need to breath, but can't even open your mouth.... Wait, have you been breathing? Everything fades to a deep nothingness, then, in the distance you see a faint flickering light, no, you see more than one........

Barratore yells again and growls, he even tries to spit. He tries yelling again. Still nothing happens, the fighters body refuses to move. Am I dead and have been found unworthy? The thought flashes through his mind. Barratore pushes the unpleasant thought away, it would take more than a mirror in a ruined shack of a house to kill him. No he would not be exiting the Wold in such a sad unsung fashion.
So Dread Nortilin is dead and someone called Conti is behind the Unholy One and the evil spreading in the city. Barratore now had a target. Conti.
Barratore blinks several times and squints as he tries to confirm and comprehend the lights that he sees. That is where he should go, there was nothing else and so he tries to will his body to move again and close with teh distant lights

Nothing the party does has any effect on Barratore, even breaking the mirror does nothing to effect him. Upon a very close examination of Barratore, his iris' moving slightly in a opening and shrinking tremors.
Barratore, you force your way by will towards the lights far off in the distance, you are straining with the effort, a lot of it is you have no idea how to do what you are doing, whatever it is you are trying, it seems to work albeit very slowly. It seems like hours you've been fighting to force your way to the lights by the time you get near them. All of a sudden you are rushing again, like before and then you are back in the real world, the mirror is gone but you are surrounded by all of your friends. The mirror is on the floor, the mirror part is broken at your feet.

Brom strains and groans as he attempts to lift his friend and carry him out of the cabin. "AAAaaaahhhh...." he shouts. After several second of trying, the barbarian gives up. "I should'a moved him." He says throwing his arms into the air.
Brom stares long at the minotaur waiting for some sign of movement, something to indicate the spell had been broken or lifted. Barratore moves...but as Brom looks at him, there is something odd. The minotaur has four legs...an extra shadow? Brom immediately has weapon drawn and pointing towards the shadow. "Ya picked sumthin' up. Look at yer shadow."
(Brom has felt the touch of a shadow before, and...no sir, didn't like it...)

Barratore strains, his mind yelling at his body to move its useless self. Progress, battles are won in inches. This battle would be like that and so Barratore sets himself to win the battle an inch at a time. Finally he pulls free of whatever had him and with a flash he is back.
Barratore blinks a few times trying to clear out his head. Meanwhile, Brom draws and Barratore reflexively draws his own blade and assumes a guard position. Barratore's mind calms some and begins to process what is being said about him. "Shadow? What? Something about a lost shadow they said. What? Where?" Barratore spins about casting his eyes for the extra shadow, but can't find it.
"What the grey was that? What did you do to me Gerox?"

Barratore returns to himself it seems. A couple people point out he seems to have multiple shadows and questions abound asking him what happened.....
To Barratore it seems quite some time passed, to everyone else only a couple minutes passed.
Now, everyone is pestering Barratore about the shadow he seems to gained and just what happened....

"What did I do to you?!!" Gerox sputters. "You crazy horned nut job?" You were frozen in place, we couldn't get you to respond or move you and you ask "What I did to you?" Spittle comes out of Gerox's mouth at the last word. He visible tries to calm himself and you can almost sense him counting to 10.
"Tell us what happened? Where were you? Did you see anything? Any answers on why you might have 2 shadows now? Did you steal somebodies' shadow?"

Everyone has questions for Barratore, but the Minotaur is quiet, like he is trying to organize is thoughts and memories. The quiet outside is beginning to become oppressive, unnatural even.
Brom.... If it could, you swear it's actually even darker outside than it was, but with the sun not coming up and all ' is even more unnatural if that's possible.

Barratore nods to Brom, confirming he is alright and looks towards Gerox, the gnome of a thousand questions. "Slow down a moment." Barratore still is a bit unnerved by the second shadow and starts there. "I heard and saw Dread, think. He was talking to some small creature explaining how he needed to speak with Gargul and get back to the land of the living on account he had Been wrongly put to death. The little thing said something about him having lost his shadow." Barratore looks down, "think that is what that is? This Dreads shadow?" The very concept is well outside the simple fighters understanding and thought process
"So that is it really. It was grey, hard to move and when I did, I wasn't really moving. It was like everything around me, moved closer or further from my fixed spot. Not a fan and unpleasant all around."

Brom nods back to Barratore. He listens to his tale and is just dumbfounded, for the most part. Barratore was talking about things that were over the head of the barbarian. Fighting, swing a sword, throwing a punch were all things Brom understood. Fights to usurp powers between gods and things like that were way beyond his understanding.
Brom sees the darkness deepen and a chill runs down his back, especially considering the tale he just heard.
"Okay, the creepiness is gettin' weird." He says looking out the door over Edson's head.
He moves over to the door and steps outside. The darkness is almost overwhelming.

The Ffloy cleric listens to Barratore's story and moves over to Barratore. He kneels down before the second shadow. "If you are indeed the shadow of the Dread, then you must have some knowledge of what is happening. I'm willing to deal on this." Says the trader priest. "You assist us in stopping the dark god from usurping Lord Gargul and I will help you clear your name so you may travel to the Lands of Eternal Rest or return here, as your Lord permits. Is this deal acceptable to you, shadow of Dread?"

Barratore tries to explain what he witnessed while apparently motionless with the mirror, he gets out what he can remember. Tuesday tries to address the shadow Barratore gained, and asks his questions. Edson heads to the doorway to look outside. Brom Steps out the door to the area just outside to see about the oppressive darkness.
Tuesday gets no response from the shadow attached to Barratore. Brom, as he steps five feet from the doorway is enveloped in a blackness that is so deep he can't see his hand in front of his face. Edson watches Brom vanish into the blackness of the dark.
(Tell me if I forgot anyone, Used Initials and Barratore is large so......)

Brom steps away from the building and all is black. He can hear the calls from the others and decides that it's a good idea. The barbarian steps backwards until he sees the others come into view over his shoulder.

Brom steps back towards the building and again reappears. Barratore draws his weapon and asks someone to try and explain what's going on. Peza listens carefully for any sounds. Edson calls for Brom to step back....
When Brom reappears from the blackness there is a sigh of relief, but only a few minutes ago, it was only normal darkness outside the shack. Peza can hear the normal sounds of Rum, but they do seem to be slightly muted, maybe by the distance, remembering that the shack wasn't exactly in the best part of the city. The Darkness is almost tangible now, it seems to be closing in. Brom is again engulfed by darkness and the following.... Everyone is effected by an area of darkness that seeps out of the other darkness and sweeps over them. DC 15 will save for half 22 and not be sickened for 2 rounds Spellcraft 25 or Knowledge Religion 26 to recognize the spell. Highlight to display spoiler: { Unholy Blight}
Everything outside the shack is now so dark that you can't see into or through it. Everyone hears some soft chittering, it's not like from a cockroach, because it's a very deep sounding chittering.

Barratore watches as the magical darkness pushes its way into the shack and braces himself. His adrenaline begins pumping and his bows out his legs to a more stable stance. A chill runs through his body and mind, but he closes his eyes and pushes his focus to what may be coming. Centering himself on the sound heading at him, at his clan and city, from the darkness beyond the door way. Not knowing where anyone is suddenly, Barratore calls out to where he last saw some of the crew. "Gerox, Peza, and Edson, make your way back behind me and Brom.

Had to make some saves for people.... Tuesday, made his save, and took 1/2 damage , total 11 points Gerox, failed his save and took 22 damage and is sickened for 2 rounds. Brom failed his save, took 22 damage and is sickened for 2 rounds as well. Edson, made his save, and took half damage, total 11 points.
Barratore calls for everyone to get behind him. Gerox casts dancing lights, which get swallowed up by the unnatural darkness. Peza, Gerox and Brom get sick.... Tuesday tries again to get a reply from Barratore's extra shadow without a reply.
The deep chittering continues, then there's a scream after a shout from outside. "What the heck is this blackness, Who's ther.... Aaarrgghhhhhhhhhh....." then there is a splooshing sound like two pieces of bloody meat hitting the wooden deck that passes as walkways around here. Brom, is the furthest outside the door, he gets hit with some sort of web like substance.... Escape Artist DC26 or Strength Check DC26 to get out of them, until then, he is entangled and has 2 negative levels.
Everyone else is inside the shack, Barratore will have to squeeze to exit. The area outside the door frame and beyond to a unknown distance is Darkness of some sort. It sounds like some civilian just got killed and Brom is trapped in some sort of magical evil webbing that is causing him to lose levels.

The spell washes over the area and all are caught in its grip. Tuesday doesn't recognize the effect, but there is something evil about it he cannot put his finger on. He channels his divine energy to aid all those affected by the spell (heal 4 points to all...figures)
DM John, Always roll your heals as individual dice, all 1's while rolling heals are re-rollable, so if that was a 1 and a 3, you could reroll the 1 for example. just a reminder
Brom is trapped in some sort of webbing. "What the heck is this stuff? Not gonna be stopped by this crap." Brom lets his rage take hold and then pulls and rips but is unable to pull himself free (Str DC 16)

Tuesday channels positive energy and everyone heals a little (4hp) Brom tries to break free of the webbing, but is unsuccessful. Barratore yells out help is coming and breaks a larger opening in the shacks wall, ending up just outside in the dark. Gerox shifts into a Dire Bat and looks for anything outside. Edson steps back into the building asking if anyone knows what the darkness is.
Gerox can sort tell where the walls across the elevated decking are located and there are two huge moving shapes, and the deep chittering sounds are coming from them. The southern shape stops chittering and suddenly emits a cone of cold at the shack. Everyone is in the area of effect. Everyone takes 66 damage ,Reflex save DC 19 for half. The northern shape emits a mass of webs just like those done before, this time though at Barratore, Escape Artist DC 26 or Strength Check DC 26 to get out of them, until then, he is entangled and has 4 negative levels.
Brom is stuck again and the spell washes over him freezing him to the core. He's hurt and creatures are coming.
"Looks like this might be the end..." He says as he raises his sword and prepares to fight.

A blast of cold tears into him, but Barratore manages to slip sideways and lessen the damage. Reflex 17+7.
The webs coat and hold Barratore fast and he can feel his very life being pulled from him. "We ain't done quite yet friend".

Gerox is rocked by the cold and staggers back in bat form in pain and confusion. He then feels the warming embrace of tuesday's healing and edges back from the darkness. He takes off into the air and gains some height moving over to the buildings behind the creatures and if he has the movement, switches back to an elf so he can spell cast.

Brom is still struggling against the webbing that binds him and worries that they are losing the fight. Tuesday channels healing power. Peza stays inside the shack and takes a shot in the dark with her crossbow. Barratore avoids some of the cold damage and struggles against the webbing as well. Gerox, in dire bat shape flies across the small court yard / alley and lands on the roof of the building across the way. -------------------------------------------------- Gerox, switches to elf from Dire Bat, preparing to cast a spell or three.... Barratore feels his vision shifting like it did when he was where he was before. The Inky blackness around him, seems to become just a deep shadow and huge black and grey spiders seem to appear in the darkness. It's unusual though, because each spider seems to be viewed in double vision, one in black and the other in grey but both are in the same location. He turns his head and the second spider, the one to the south appears just the same way. He feels the tightness in his chest again and the chill of the cold courses through his entire body, it also seems to flow through his weapon. The webbing that binds him seems to dissolve and shred into nothing and fade into the darkness and are gone. He is free of the webbing, but how? Why?
The northern spider see Barratore get free of the webbing and Barratore sees him/it spray another batch of webs at him. Barratore brings up his weapon in a natural reaction and the webs hit his sword and it shreds into nothingness like those that bound him. The southern spider ignores the snack that's all tied up and tries to bite Peza, Peza gets lucky, the cover she has from being inside the shack Protects her this times, but more of the wall is demolished by the spiders attack.
The U's are now seen by Barratore as huge shadowy spiders, sort of, everyone else, until they either enter the shack or Barratore tells you, they are still unknown. The small H's are the 2 parts of the man you heard earlier.

Barratore vision clears and and webs fall off. The fighter immediately thinks of Imod, and a small prayer of thanks falls from his lips. "They look like huge spiders, both here and standing elsewhere, like I was before!" He yells out to the others. "Cleric! What are they!"
He then yells to Brom "in front you and to the left! STRIKE!"
Barratore also attacks the creature trying to rally himself with a battle cry, "For Imod and the Starlight clan!"

Edson tries to take some cover. Peza shoots the huge spider thingy in front of her. Barratore attacks, one hit lands the second does not. Brom still entangled attacks, but does not hit critically. Tuesday casts a group healing again.
The northern spider thing simply vanishes from even Barratore's improved vision. The southern looks at Barratore and sees the webbing is gone and tries it's hand at webbing Barratore, and witnesses the same effect as the northern one did last round, the webbing simply dissolves into nothing as it hits Barratore.

Peza steps forward and shoots twice, both hitting, but neither one critically. Edson double shoots his bow, but misses twice. Barratore attacks hitting once. Gerox launches a fireball.
DM rolled attacks for Brom, one hit, one miss.... (18 damage) --------------------------------------------------------------------
The Norther Spider was unwounded, before it vanished. The Southern Spider is visibly bleeding, but has yet to be seriously effected by it's wounds. The Spider seemed to avoid most of the fireball, but it did take some of the damage.
The Northern spider is still missing, but the shack is starting to become covered with webbing, it looks like the same as what's binding Brom and what was binding Barratore.. The southern spider spits at Peza, Peza please make a fort save DC 12 or take 3 DEX and 2 Con damage (2 saves in a row or take the damage)
The darkness feels like it's closing in upon the whole party, closing in, yet it's still the same amount only compressed in closer. Maybe it's the effects of the webbing spreading over the shack, maybe it's something else all together.....
