The Journey Home...
Where in the name of the Jericho are we?!?

[DM StevenVdB] - Look, beastie-boy, the Shelster has a point...
Monday June 15th, 2015 5:09:25 PM

While most seem ready to spend the night at the Inn, Murphy is not able to sleep without a bit more discussion...

The Druid comes up with a cunning idea... He draws the idea of a very large bird, wearing a kind of harness which would allow everyone to hang onto... to proove his point he transform into a gorgeous Eagle. Its wingspan stretches almost from wall to wall... it makes you wonder if he would be able to stretch his wings inside the collapsing tower chamber AND somehow fly out carrying you all... the carrying probably being the easiest part.

"I trust in Murphy", Hazel says but even though he trusts his friend, he doubts it's a good idea. Feeling weakened from the ghosts the prospect of falling to death isn't very appealing.

Shel's convinced they must escort the little goblin girl home. She hopes the group will be able to get back before the Biguns from the North realize something's wrong with the magic barrier.

Somewhat dissapointed that no one appears to feel any sympathy for his idea, Murphy demures and tries to explain why...

""But, friends, long story short - I do not wish to abandon you - but I will not abandon Humble's Ford in what surely is another coming hour of great need. If you will fly to Izen, then my prayers will accompany you. I will be in and around Humble's Ford, and see if we can raise some defense to patch the hole in the defense the remaining towers give us.", Murphy concludes... It's obvious if the group decides to travel with Isra, that he won't follow but instead plans on taking his chances with the collapsing tower.

The group's strongest as a whole!", Alleah chimes in hoping she can convince Murphy to stay with the group.

"Please Mister Murphy," says Bliss, "please come with us. Because we need you."

Sardok vigorously nods at Alleah's statement but he doesn't voice his opinion. He begins a fresh assault upon a platter of eggy toast...

"Alleah and Bliss both make sense. If you go back, you might just get smooshed by the tower., Shell adds.

Quickly followed by Mookie's conclusion: "Look, beastie-boy, the Shelster has a point, and the Kid would be sad to see you go on a suicide mission.

...

Ultimately, and much to everyone's releaf, Murphy gives in, ""I think I was wrong. Sometimes we need to heed the abundance of counselors, and, in this matter we face, I must bow to your better wisdom."

...

Before going to bed Alleah speaks with Isra explaining why they can't bring back Rais from the dead. The little girl nods and clings her small Goblin arms around Alleah's waist.
But perhaps there's something they can still do for the little boy... Alleah casts Speak with Dead... after chanting over Rais's body for about 10 minutes the little boy's mouth begins to speak...

1: Is there anything Rais wishes to tell his family: Tell my mum and dad I love them and they should not worry. Tell my sis she's been the greatest. She should not feel guilty about me passing. I love her and I will look for passage to the Lands of Rest where we will meet again someday.
2: Is he in pain: No...

...

And so the group comes to an agreement. With a last night cap they all go to bed only to wake again under the same lavender sky to be seen through the Inn's windows. What an abismall place this is...

During breakfast Mookie wonders if the innkeeper has any merchs available...

He smiles, goes behind the counter and brings back a few things...

First he shows a linnen shirt with Castle Fidelia, lurking on a purple hilltop, a lavender moon behind it... below the castle it reads: "I've been to Kosche Marr... and lived to tell..."

Next is a mug with the Huntsman on his nightmare steed. When you pour something hot in it, the flames around the steed's anckles flicker.

And especially for Mookie, a shot flass with bats crossing a lavender full moon... when you stare into the empty glass you gaze into the fanged mouth of a bat...

...

Then... all tales must come to an end... the party is ready to leave this dreaded place and head back with Isra to Izen... Veseley takes Tiana by the hand and prepares to join the group.

Isra takes Alleah by the hand. The Innkeeper urges everyone else to hold hands firmly. Sardok holds Alleah, then Bliss together with Mookie, Shel, Hazel grabs his friend Murphy. Last Veseley holds Murphy while he clings onto Tiana's hand.

"Looks like you're ready to go... go!... NOW!... AND HANG ON!!!

...

WHOOOOSSHHHH

You feel you're arms are being pulled from your body! Dragged through space and time!! There's darkness around you. You feel dizzy! Like you're in a whirlpool!! Veseley shouts!!! TIANA!!!! NOOOOO!!!

Suddenly Murphy feels Veseley letting go and meanwhile Hazel's grip tighthens! Looke like the ranger won't allow Murphy to get some crazy idea to let go also...

...

WHAAMMM

Silence...

Darkness...

you're in a room...

Alleah feels a soft bed beneath her...

The rest of you is scattered accross the room on the hard wooden floor. The room's dark...

... a stumble behind the closed door...

... stamping feet...

Shel was surprised by the sudden darkness. She rises to her feet and casts Light on her warddstone necklace, so everyone can see in the pitch black. Shel takes a head count as she scans the room. "Is everyone okay? Is everyone here? I heard Vesely shout....are he and Tiana okay?"

Once she looked over the room, she helped the others to their feet.

Bliss claps his hands when he realizes that Murphy is coming along. "That's great! We couldn't do it without you, Mister Murphy!"

Meanwhile, Mookie is busy telling Bliss to pay the man for the shotglass.

"Well, it is the right size," Bliss says, "but how are you going to hold it?"

"You don't hold it! You put it on a shelf to collect dust!"

"Oh." Bliss pays up. [OOC: how much, please, kindly DM?]

After the tele-gate-a-port-key, Bliss rolls off someone and blends in with the shadows. He looks around carefully. If he cannot see anything, he listens.

Alleah puts an arm around Murphy's shoulders "I promise you. As soon as I can get a message back to Humble's Ford, I will. You know, I had another thought about how we can do that. There's a witch ritual rarely called upon. It's called 'Call Spirit'. With it, I could speak with anyone back in Humble's Ford when they next go to sleep. I could get a message to them instantly. No need to travel. What's more, they can speak back. I could have a 5 minute conversation with someone"

---------------------

Alleah grips Isra's hand for dear life. She will NOT be letting go of the girl now. Fortunately the landing is quite comfortable for her, but she can hear what sounds like the others hitting the floor.

Like Shel, she casts a Light cantrip (on her hand) so she can see exactly what is going on. "Is everyone alright?"

She remains sitting on what feels like a bed.

As mentioned in a private post to DM, Murphy wrote a few letters before the teleportation, which he vouchsafed to Veseley for delivery to various people in Humble's Ford.

He had meant to set up something to help people keep together during the teleport, but somehow did not get around to it, to his current regret. He lost his grasp on Veseley as the former let go. Was Tiana's mind pulling her elsewhere, and Veseley sensed he was losing her?

The present. A room. A bedroom. Someone has heard the noise of their sudden appearance. He guesses this is the bedroom of Isra and perhaps her brother's, too. Is her father or mother without, making the noise of stamping feet? Guards?

He listens carefully for the tongue of the goblins. Isra has been speaking in the common tongue with them. Will that be the language of those in this dwelling?

Murphy picks up a blanket, and steps near to the door, flattening himself against the wall, but with the blanket at hand, ready to cast over whoever comes in - if doing so seems like a good idea once the door opens...

"Not hurt. I think we lost Veseley and Tiana along the way," Murphy stage-whispers in reply to Sardok.

[DM StevenVdB] - tele-gate-a-port-key out of Koshe Marr  d20+4=20
Tuesday June 16th, 2015 5:27:22 PM

Shel's surprised by the sudden darkness... she rises to her feet and casts some light on her surroundings. Looks like you're in Isra's bedroom... the Goblin child lies in bed. Alleah sits next to her. There's a second bed in the room... it's empty...

Immediately Shel checks to see if everyone is allright. She heard Veseley shout and... well she can't see the wizard nor Tiana.

Happy Murphy decided to come, Bliss ducks into the shadows as soon as he lands in the room.

During the tele-gate-a-port-key Alleah firmy squeezed Isra's hands. She would not let go of the Goblin lass that's for sure... She casts more light.

Of course Hazel had Faoil grabbing (biting) his druid friend. On the one hand to make sure his companion was making the trip with him and secondly... to make sure his druid friend didn't get any funny ideas...

Before they all left, Murphy gave a letter to Veseley. The wizard promised to deliver the message as soon as he got back to the Valley.

Sardok summersaults to his feet and draws his swords...

No one's hurt, but you lost Veseley and Tiana.
Hearing the noise beyond the door Murphy grabs a blanket and stands next to the door... ready to cast it over whoever comes in...

........

The door suddenly slams open!! Isra jumps up. Everyone's surprised by the speed and strength the door swings open!!

"DON'T TOUCH MY CHILDREN!!!! GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!!!"

A Goblin male barged into the room wielding a round wooden club... perfectly round shape, well balanced. Behind him a Goblin female (his wife?) holds a torch.

"PAPA!!", Isra shouts in terror...

The man is even more distressed as he sees someone sitting on Isra's bed! Someone else holding 2 blades!!!

"OUT!!!!" he shouts and hurls himself at Sardok swinging his bat!! (Hits Sardok AC20) The bat only puts a dent in Sardok's armor...

"Hello. Are you Missus Blackfur, mother of Isra and Rais?" he asks in polite tones. "I think we need to sit down and talk. We are not here to harm you, but rather to tell you what has happened. I know this looks strange. But, could you get your husband calmed down? We really don't want to hurt him, or anyone here."

Fortunately, Golbin is one of the languages Alleah is comfortable speaking.

Unfortunately, she doesn't think the goblin dad is going to believe her suggestion that this is just a slumber party.

"Whoa whoa whoa! Easy now. We don't mean anyone any harm. If you'll just give us a moment to explain, I'm sure you'll agree this is just one big misunderstanding" she says in goblin with her hands raised in the air.

She then switches to common "And just to show that we mean no harm, how about everyone lowers their weapons whilst Isra here goes over to her mother?"

Alleah really doesn't want to cast a spell on the man just yet, but she fears she may have no choice.

"Thankyou" Alleah says as the goblin man lowers his club "Perhaps we should discuss this over a pot of tea? What we have to tell you is quite a tale, and it is best you be seated"

Like any good halfling, Alleah has some tea leaves at hand to brew a nice pot. If the goblins wish for something stronger, then all the better. The news they party have to share will be difficult for them to hear.

"So there was all this purple smoke coming from one of the towers..." she begins. Alleah relays the events that took them to Koshe Marr, their encounter with the Hunstman, finding Isra and Rais, Rais' death, how the party protected Isra, the graveyard, Amalee's room, and how they ended up in this - what she assumes is a - house.

With the story complete, Alleah fetches Rais' wrapped up corpse from Faoil's back and gently lays it down on one of the beds.

"I contacted his spirit in the after life and asked him if there was anything he wished you to know. His words were 'Tell my mum and dad I love them and they should not worry. Tell my sis she's been the greatest. She should not feel guilty about me passing. I love her and I will look for passage to the Lands of Rest where we will meet again someday.' It may not help, but he also told me he is in no pain. I'm very sorry for your loss"

There is a question Alleah wants to ask, but now is perhaps not the time. She knows how she and the party went to Koshe Marr, but how did Isra and Rais do it? How was a portal opened here?

Thursday June 18th, 2015 5:32:27 PM

Shel's happy the tensions didn't seem to be escalating. She asks Isra to explain what happened...

Hazel reigns and calms Faoil. He doesn't want to make the "first bite". Later as the story unfolds Hazel tries to get a hunch of what Isra's parents will do...

"Perhaps we should discuss this over a pot of tea?, Alleah says while she digs up some tea leaves.

Bliss doesn't quite know how to cope with this situation. Instead he hides in shadows and sneaks out... no one seems to note the tiny witch's gone missing yet Bliss feels a bit uneasy about leaving... as he sneaks out, he leaves some coin here and there... Mookie remains under the bed...

Murphy appreciates hiw each member of the group responds and acts. He helps Alleah telling the story by adding a few details here and there...

Alleah bigins her story at the moment there was purple smoke oozing out of the Giant Tower... When she gets to the point where they were sent to Koshe Marr, Isra's father snorts and bites: "NONSENSE! That nothing but a children's tale to keep'm quite! WHERE DID YOU TAKE RAIS!!!" His wife lays a hand on his arms... "Let her speak love..."

Continuing with the encounter of the Huntsman Isra's father has a hard time sitting still. His disbelief is obvious. Hazel gets a hunch that the Goblin might not sit through the entire story... he whispers in Alleah's ear to come to the point where they met Isra and Rais a bit sooner...

"It was there we found Isra and Raïs running through that accursed land... they were exhausted... hunted by the Huntsman... ", says Alleah. Isra softly starts to cry in her mother's arms... "Is that true my child? Have you actually been to the Land of Horror?! "... Isra nods...

"NONSENSE!!! THat's just a tale Nana would come up with! What've you been doing missy!! Where's you're brother!!!??". Her father remains quite agitated...

"QUIET DOWN LAD" someone says in Goblin from the door... an old lady enters the room...

"That Land... with it's eternally lavender moon... where time stands still... where horror comes to life... speak more..." the old lady says in Goblin.

And so Alleah continues her tale. But when she comes to the moment Rais ran into the Crystal Forest a lump forms in her throat... Isra's mother weeps and clings to her daughter... Nana softly sighs...
Their father... stares blank... tears stand in his eyes but don't roll over his cheeks...

With much difficulty and emotion Alleah bites through and finishes her story. Amalee... the graveyard... the Inn and finally ending up here...

But it's when she speaks the words Rais told her from the after life that Isra's mother passes out from emotion and their father bursts in quiet tears... no sound comes from him... just tears welling down his goblin face... Isra too cries...

Nana's face remains stern...
"Not many belief in the tale of Cauchemar... but I do... we should rejoice the return of Isra. From what you told us, Rais is safe..."

Sardok quietly listens to Alleah storytelling and since she seems to have things well he doesn't chime in. Pleased they are no longer in Koshe Larr Hazel too keeps quiet and keeps Faoil in check also.

As Isra's mother passes out, Alleah makes sure the goblin mother is lying in a comfortable position. She also urges Isra to come hold her mother's hand.

"Cauchemar? Is that a goblin word? , Shel asks and asks a few more questions to Nana.

"Many names are given to this accursed land. In every culture there are tales of a land that can only be reached in dreams... the land of horror..."

Murphy gives it a try and hopes he will get Isra to tell what it was that send them to Koshe Marr...

Isra snickers and softly says what happened that evening...

"Papa sent me up to our room for we had behaved badly..., she starts and you notice her father to shift on his chair uneasy.

Isra: "... I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU!!! I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!!!!"

BWAMM, Isra slams the door of her bedroom... Rais wakes and looks at his sister...

"Sleep you!" Isra hisses to her brother

Isra hops into her bed with her clothes still on and continues: "I will never go back downstairs! I will run away... "

"Don't say that sis... you know... Cauchemar?!", Rais says.

"Hah! That's just a stupid bedtime story Nana tells us... just to keep stupid kids like you behave... I'm older that you! Such stories don't scare me anymore! Such lands to not exist! Now shut up and go to bed!"

Angry Isra falls a sleep...

An hour later, Isra's father comes knocking softly on the bedroom door... Isra doesn't answer and nor does Rais...

Already the room is empty...

Isra weeps and looks at her father...

Sardok nods. This seems to be going as well as can be expected. If they get out of here without bloodshed, it's been a good day.

As usualy, Murphy has hit upon the pointed question: If they knew how the kids got there...well, that is quite a mystery. The Humble crowed got there with the assistance of High Magicks gone awry with elder mages combining words of Power. But the children.... It reminds Sardok of a tale he heard, where a woman became trapped in a land of doors. So many things were doors that soon she stopped going anywhere, fearful that if she went anywhere, she would go everywhere, and so went nowhere. He tries to think of the name of the tale, but that must be The Nameless One.

Sardok unobtrusively pads closer to Nana, and says to her in a low, knowing voice. "Ma'am. I'm sorry but did you hear the tale rightly? The boy is slain and we know not where his soul hath gone. Know you aught that we do not? What moves you to say he is safe?
If you seek comfort, know that we slew the bats that harassed us. And then I caused such a tumult amongst the slayer-trees that they shall not harm another for O, some time."

Shel listens, waiting for the grandmother to chime in. Was she a sage, or did she have powers that led to the children being taken away?. Nothing yet had really explained to Shel what had happened to open up whatever gate to Koshe Marr the thad taken the children.

Murphy - (Kim)
Sunday June 21st, 2015 3:06:17 PM

"It seems there are many portals into the twilight lands," mutters Murphy. Realizing that he said that more to himself than to those in the children's bedroom, he says more clearly. "I'm thinking there are many ways into Koshe Marr. It was a magical rift for us. It seems it may have been a rift between father and daughter that opened the door the children went through."

He turns to the nana. "I would love to hear how you came to know of Cauchemar - it sounds as though this is not second-hand knowledge. And, if you, unless I am mistaken, have been in those lands, that may have made it somehow more likely that those who come after you might find their way to the same place. And, please, Isra's nana, I say this not at all to cast blame, but sometimes these things can get passed down the generations, whether we desire it or not. I know you tried to do what you could to prevent family members from going that way."

The druid turns to look at Isra in her father's arms.

After a moment, he says, "A father loves his children. Children need formation - for each of us needs to learn and be taught what is the right thing to do, and what wrong things to avoid. Some we intuit, but for some things, we need others to guide us.

"Learning these things is not always easy. Teaching them isn't either.

"My Uncle Orby told me once that children have a responsibility to listen to and obey their father and mother. And he said that fathers should try to avoid provoking their children to wrath.

"I was angry with my father for punishing me for accidentally hurting my young brother. I slammed Fermin's fingers in a drawer when I did not know he had his hand there, and my father hit my bottom hard three times with a broad paddle when he learned what happened.

"I was telling my uncle about it, and how it did not think it was fair. He asked me, 'Was it fair for you to harm your brother?' - 'But I didn't intend to.' - 'Yet he was harmed, lad. Let me ask you - do you suppose you will be more careful when closing drawers from here on out? And do you suppose you will be more mindful of your brother's presence - and of your surroundings in general?'

"I thought over that question, and realized that, though the harm I caused was unintentional, it was real harm. And I am responsible for my actions, and may have to suffer consequences for those actions. And poor Fermin's little finger was broken!

"'Uh, yeah, Uncle Orby. I mean, yes. Yes, I think I will.'

He pauses for a moment, takes a breath. "Father and mother and nana of Isra and of Rais: I can see the love and loyalty in your family. Isra - you saw your father come bravely and boldly to your defense. He loves you fiercely, and will risk his life for you.

"Tears of repentence are precious. And love covers over a multitude of faults. Let's never again let resentment lead us into that land again."

He turns to his friends and says, "Let us introduce ourselves to these people." He then faces the family members. "My name is Murphy, son of Samell, of Humble's Ford, at your service." He offers his hand to shake that of Isra's father.

"If there is anything we might do for you, please tell us." Then he adds, "And, might we join in honoring your young son with you as his body is laid to rest, as, from Alleah's report, his soul seeks the path to rest, as well?"

Bliss feels something from his connection to Mookie that makes him look around and stand up. He remains stealthed.

[DM StevenVdB] - Cauchemar? Is that a goblin word?
Monday June 22nd, 2015 6:31:50 PM

Sardok's surprised when he hears Nana say the boy Rais is safe... Shel too wonders how she knows that! How did she come to say such a thing?! Sardok speaks his doubt and questions Nana about it...

Alleah tries to comfort Isra... Hazel does remind her to behave from now on..

"It seems there are many portals into the twilight lands." mutters Murphy. Like Shel and Sardok he'd love to hear how Nana knows about these things especially if there are those details that could protect others fron ending up in Koshe Marr...

Nana answers calmly in Goblin this time - those speaking Goblin translate simultaniously...

"There are stories told to keep young ones behave. One more true than others... Many cycles around the sun ago a young lad was found frantically speaking of a land so horrific... Few believed him and locked him away. The poor boy had lost his mind. Yet his story lingered and my great uncle got intrigued by it... He could not proof Cauchemar exists but he found similar stories in many places...

Isra amd her brother somehow ended up there... How? Why!? I don't know... But thanks to you she was returned to us. Sadly Rais died but his soul was saved. If it hadn't been for you we woukd have found 2 empty beds forever wondering where the children are..."

Everyone quietly listens - everyone? Mookie has a hard time sttaying quiet... Bliss explores with Shadows.

When Nana stops no one speaks.

"Let us introduce ourselves to these people.", Murphy says at lasts and introduces himself first.

"Come... We go downstairs... Let me show you gratitude for returning our daughter.I am Dyma and this is my wife Fenna."

Downstairs, Isra's father Dyma, gets some ale, wine, bread, dried meat and cheese. He offers you all a place to sit around his table.

Shel takes a chair and pulls herself up to the table. She had never expected to eat dinner with a family of goblins, but hey, it has been a really strange few days. She only understood bits and pieces of the conversation, but it seemed friendly enough. "I'm Shel. Thank you for your hospitality. What kind of meat so goblins prefer?". Shel kept the topics light, not wanting to get into hard hitting questions with the family still working through grief as it was.

Alleah looks about the house, trying to gauge the wealth of this goblin family. Could they afford to provide food and drink to the party? Saying no to it would likely insult Dyma. Fortunately she is still full from the delicious snacks Mr McGiven provided in the Harrowed Moon Inn. So maybe just a few sips of ale...

She shakes each persons hand, starting with Dyma, then Fenna, then Nana.

"I am very pleased to meet you. I'm Alleah. Alleah Heathertoe. Might I say what an amazing daughter you are raising. Kind, compassionate, brave. Isra is a real honor to your clan. You must be very proud" she says in fluent goblin.

It occurs to Alleah that of all the things she has in her kit, she doesn't have any non-alcoholic drinks that would be suitable for children. "Must remember to stock up when we next find a market"

Once everyone has a drink, Alleah holds her cup aloft and speaks softly "In memory of Rais. May Gargul guide him to where the traveller never tires, the lover never leaves, and the hungry never starve."

After an appropriate moment of pause and pleasantries, Alleah will bring up the subject of Humble's Ford "We are grateful for your hospitality, Dyma, however I'm sure you do not want us crowding your house. If you'll but permit us to stay the night we will be on our way in the morning. It will be quite a walk to return to Humble's Ford"

But where is Bliss? Is he still hiding underneath the bed? If the goblins find someone new, it could upset the peace.

Midway through the meal, Murphy mentions, "We have never been to Izen before. Are halflings welcome here? Can you give us any counsel on what to do here?"

Sardok will accept a mug of ale out of good manners, but the fine breakfast and eggy toast from the Inn still sits heavily in his guts.
And there work here is done anyway. They have escorted the girl and brought news to the family. The events at the Tower in Humble's Ford are now playing out, and they need to make haste if they are to defend the province from the inevitable giant curiosity.

Sardok sips on his ale and says, sagely, "We are most grateful that you have taken our news as calmly as you have, but our own home has dangers that will need attention. Methinks the best route would be for us to take our leave of you with some haste. If you could but tell us where we are, we must needs make for Humble's Ford with all speed." He takes another sip of the ale, surprised at its quality. He should ask after some goblin ale when next he sees a Halfling merchant. "Again, I am sorry for your loss."

He finishes his ale and gives 'shall we go now?' looks at the rest of the party.

And, yes, we get out from a nightmare to another, where the Goblins are nice and want us to stay in their inn. Sometimes I am not sure we got out of Koshe Marr, as the nightmare is still ongoing. [DM StevenVdB] - Cauchemar? Is that a goblin word?
Tuesday June 23rd, 2015 6:27:42 PM

Shel's the first to introduce herself to Dyma. Even though it feels strange to befriend a group of Goblins she does a fine job trying to show gratitude.

With fina menners Alleah thanks Dyma for his hospitality. She tries to size the house and perhaps get an idea of the family that lives here...

Hazel feels most uncomfortable about the whole situation. Faoil comes as a handy excuse... He carefully avoids the drink and food offered and whispers to Murphy he prefers not to stay here..

Dissapointed at Hazel's reaction to Dyma's invitation, Murphy, like Alleah, does a fine job trying to understand where they are.

Sardok's a bit more 'business' minded. Their job here is done... Isra's home and now they ought to get home asap to ward the Valley from a Giant Invasion...

Outside, Bliss startles Hazel when he poos out of the shadows... But even then, Bliss remains hard to see... It seems the tiny witch has foundd ways to blend in shadows.

.......

As the group, or at least those who politely accepted Dyma's invitation, goes down you are surprised to notice you are yet again in a different Inn!

Dyma explains where you are...

Izen...
Named for the orcish word meaning "Sandwich," this land is "sandwiched" between Blackbird Forest and New Elenna on the west and east, and between the Culverwood and the sea on the north and south. Except for minor changing "safe-pockets", is a land convoluted with chaos, evil, monsters, and above all extreme danger. Travelers should avoid the area and caravans traveling between New Elenna and places west should travel armed and prepared, and should consider a northerly route.

There is a caravan trail along the coast from New Elenna to Dirt City to Acid City in Aisildur. Halfway along the trail between Dirt City and Aisildur this small inn run by a family of less-evil-than-usual goblins Dyma and his wife Fenna -- The inn is actually more like a small fort or complex. It is build into the side of a hill set back about 500 feet from the road. There is a stockade fence surrounding the complex, and a gate in the fence. A visitor will know that this is The Goblin's Rest, because of the signs on either side of the gate -- of a sleeping goblin. The words "Goblins Rest" on one, and "Goblin's Rests" on the other, make it even plainer. There is usually a banner slung across the top of the gate -- "Merchants Welkome!"

Dyma looks puzzeled as Alleah asks directions to Humble's Ford... Luckily he has heard of the Crescent Valley and the Scab!

"In order to get back home you will need to travel North along the South Peaseblossom river. A journey of roughly 250 miles... These lands are dangerous but following the river definetely is the safest route... From Goblin's Rest to the banks of the Peaseblossom is but a few hours on foot." Dyma explains...

"Maybe the giant tower has not yet even fallen! Maybe if we rush we can get back there in time to stop the disaster that made it fall down! Quick, what day is it today? What day was it when we left? How many days do we have?"

[DM StevenVdB] - does that mean that we arrived back in the Wold BEFORE we left?!
Wednesday June 24th, 2015 6:44:00 PM

Dyma's bearings are crystal clear for Shel and she wonders if the group will leave soon...

Dispite the fact that you left the Harrowed Moon Inn after some rest (mind you there is no night and day in Kosh Marre) you ended up here in Goblim's Rest in the moddle of the night... At the exact same moment where Isra and Rais were taken by Kosh Marre...
As such Alleah suggests Shel to wait till morning... Besides she promised Murphy to try and reach Alouryn!

"Does that mean that we arrived back in the Wold BEFORE we left?!", Bliss suddenly says!! (Hero point for Bliss to unfold the time warp!! Ooooo... Interesting :-) )

"Quick, what day is this!?" the tiny witch asks. Dyma looks puzzeled... "Maybe the giant towers have not collased yet!!"

Before leaving Murphy hopes they will all pay their respect to Rais.

Hazel seems confused: "So... what? Before we went to Koshe Marr? Before my wedding? Really?" he says...

---------

Dyma tries to inform you what day it is... He looks rather suspiciously at you all... That trip in Kosh Marre appears to have been rather damaging to your mental health...

You learn you've been sent back 3 weeks in time!! You wonder where you were 3 weeks ago! Before Hazel's wedding... Before the tower's collase... Before you were sent to Kosh Marre. Obviously this presents some of the paradoxes of time travel...

- Will Alleag contact Alouryn now? Knowing that... Well... You're all still there...

- You have quite a distance to close before you get home...

-Just do consider what may happen to the Continuum should you present yourselves before you leave..

There's no entry to the Catacombs from this place. However there's a merchant also staying at the Inn... He carries items from the Catacombs yet has not the full catalogue... He will purchase items at the same rate the Catacombs does.

Chances are he carries what you meed...

- Item cost < 1000 = 75% chance he has it
- 1000 < Item cost < 2000 = 50% chance he has it
- 2000 < Item cost < 5000 = 25% chance he has it
- 5000 < Item cost < 10000 = 10% chance he has it
- +10000 = no items on stock

Alleah tries to understand exactly what is going on, and the possibilities that might be available.

But if they do save the tower, does that mean the group will never have travelled to Koshe Marr, and thus, never saved Isra? Do they have a right to change history? Then again, this could be a chance to save Rais...

"No, wait.. Rais and Isra came from this timeline. Isra is back safely. That is that. Going to the tower won't affect them. Yes! We can save the tower! Oh... but Rais" Alleah never was good with timelines.

Murphy rolls over the concept of stepping back in time through his challenged mind. He has heard tell of it happening to people here and there, but it is so much a rarity.

How to wisely use this time?

"Yes, let us prepare for travel. Now, what do you think about extended overland flight? That could get us back home rather quickly, me thinks."

Murphy loves Bliss's enthusiasm, and chuckles at Mookie and Shel. He finds Alleah's insights remarkable.

[As a giant eagle, Murphy's flight movement would be 60 (though a normal giant eagle can fly 80) - perhaps a bit less depending upon how laden down with adventurers and their gear (and how much he could carry). At 60, with 8 hours flight time (he would have to change twice into this form at 6 hours each), we could cover 96 miles a day. With 6 hours flight time 72 miles a day. If he is slowed to 50, that is 80 miles in 8 hours, 60 miles in 6 hours. At 40 movement, 64 miles in 8 hours, 48 miles in 6 hours. So, say, 48 to 96 miles a day - with the latter, the party could fly home (barring obstacles and encounters) in less than 3 days, or in a bit over 5 days at the slowest rate, and only 6 hours daily flight. Do any of the rules experts see any problems with this? As a large aerial mount, how many halflings could he carry? Sardok, put that muffin down. And we'd better build a real effective, comfortable harness! Lots of talcum powder - no chafing.]

========
Murphy's CLW wand is running on the low side. For 1500 gp, should the merchant have it, a permanent CLW wand can be purchased. Let's see - roll 50 or less on a d100. A 16. Let's ask the merchant about that. Murphy has close to no funds, so we will have to sell something. He supports the lesser restoration wand idea, too.
A clerical wand of lesser restoration costs 4500gp. A paladin wand of lesser restoration costs 750gp. Though the clerical versions are likely to be more common... Rolling for paladin wand (75 or less): That's a 5. Great roll, fair chance (subject to DM okay). For the clerical version (25 or less): 73 - he doesn't have it. [I say, go paladins!]

---------------------------
OOC: Unfortunately the Wold doesn't use permanent wands (aka Eternal Wands) :)

We should definitely look for the Paladin Wand of Lesser Restoration. Alleah can use it freely. You only need to have the spell on your list to be able to use a wand, regardless of the class that created it

Alleah will have a look for a Paladin Wand of Lesser Restoration if allowed. d100=100!?! I should have shopped for something else!

As for travel, this link Mode of Movement has a handy table. For every 5ft of movement you can travel 4miles. 30ft base speed = 24miles in a day. 60ft base speed = 48miles in a day. Anything more becomes a forced march I think. Even walking normally we should get there with a week and a half to spare

Sardok shoves the rest of the muffin into his mouth and ponders all this talk of time travel, and he finds it to his liking.

"Alleah, I say you do these actions. I know not of 'paradoxes', but I do know that knowledge is power, and could various people have more knowledge, then methinks many things would go better.

Of special importance, send a note to yourself concerning Rais' death and the crystal murder-trees. There are some theories said by men with long beards using large words, that both Time and Fate are linked. That there are some events that are simply written into the line of Fate that are immutable. That is, they can not be averted, which is why so many prophecies come true, despite having been known so clearly for so long--they are simply already written into Fate's plan.
But other actions, which are minor, can be averted. It seems to me that the hubris of Those of Power (like the Diner's Club) will cause them to go through with their experiment anyway, but, if we at least have minor fore-knowledge of our travels, then we could at least take a shot at saving a young goblin.

What say you?"

Hazel sits down, somewhat morose, petting Faoil.
"There is something that bugs me... I got married when I got married because many things happened. If some of them didn't, I wouldn't have got married, and Alouryn would not be my wife. And that would be very bad, for me at least. If we, somehow, prevent us from doing the things we already did, what will happen to us? Will things be different? I would love to avoid going into Koshe Marr, or Maar, or whatever, but what if by preventing that we cause something worst to happen?"

Sardok HP 54/54 AC 21/16/16--Atlas2112

Sardok comes over sits down next to Hazel and puts a brotherly hand on his shoulder. "Do not doubt your feelings, my brother-in-arms. How you feel for her will not change if all the stars go out of the sky and the gods themselves come down to reclaim the realm of mortals. So whether one little tower falls or does not fall will affect you, either present, future, or past, not at all. "

Sardok grins with what he hopes is an authentic grin.

For he has not forgotten.

The IronClaw Orcs still have much to answer for. Not even an invasion of giants will save them.

[DM StevenVdB] - does that mean that we arrived back in the Wold BEFORE we left?!
Thursday June 25th, 2015 6:54:18 PM

The sudden realisation of this shift in the time continuum brings forth a whole range of possibilities...

Bliss is convinced it would be a heroic thing to use this opportunity to safe the Giant Tower.

At first Shel feels very uncomfortable with all this but ultimately it does sound a golden chance to send fair warnings towards home...

Alleah considers the vast options available but she does wonder what will happen if the tower did not collapse... After all you were sent there due the its collapse!? What then with Isra and Rais?? You brougt Isra home but would both kids still be alive if you hadn't gone to Koshe Marr??
She also has an arrow that could help her warning.

Murphy comes up with a plan to carry the whole group back to Humble's Ford while in Giant Eagle shape. (mind you there are certain rules involved with flying and riding a mount... Does everone possess the skill for such extended flight??)

While pondering the various possibilities Murphy checks with the merchant for a wand.

Sardok dismisses all possible dangers of medelling with space and time. He just suggests Alleah to use her spell...

Hazel's worried... Will he and Allouryn still be maried?? Sardok tries to reason with Hazel...

-----------

Looks like the Humble's Sword will, against common sense, try to warn themselves of the imminent downfall of the Giant Tower...

I need one clear answer to who does what folk.

"I need one clear answer to who does what folk" mean?

I have read many ideas on how you want to drive your DM's crazy by trying to sending messages back to your original selves or even flying back there all together. So, I was hoping the group will reach a consensus and tell me which of these ideas (or hopefully none) you want to persue.

Murphy - (Kim)
Friday June 26th, 2015 2:38:10 AM

"If we show up as ourselves back home while we are still there... Should we adopt disguises?" Murphy wonders aloud. "And, rather than telling people outright... perhaps there are limited things we would be able to do. Maybe a little fix here, a small nudge there might be enough to fix what needs to be fixed."

The druid raises another question, and this one he makes certain to be out of earshot of the goblin family: "Should we be able to keep the tower from exploding - is there a way of us returning to Koshe Marr in order to rescue the kids?"

Alleah -- RobC -- AC 14/13/12 -- CMD 12 -- HP 39/39
Friday June 26th, 2015 5:03:06 AM

"The way I see it, we have returned to their time. Isra is safe and can't be taken back to Koshe Marr. Unfortunately, it also means that Rais is gone.

I really am not sure how we should proceed, as something on this scale is practically unheard of, and I am wary that we could make things worse, if not for ourselves then for others. I would like to buy a Scroll of Divination and consult Wardd when we are closer to Humble's Ford. If he wants us to chance saving the tower, then so be it. But if the gods warn us against it, then perhaps it is meant to be."

Alleah just feels uncomfortable saying this. In her mind it's the right way to go, but still - meant to be? That's not at all what Wardd would teach. People make their own luck.

"So.. yeah. Let's start the trip back tomorrow morning and see what happens when the time comes"

Shel Gerald--AC 15/14/12--CMD 14--HP 39/39
Friday June 26th, 2015 7:12:48 AM

Shel nods. "I'm not going to pretend I know what we need to do. I think figuring out a more precise plan as we get close to the Ford will be our best bet. If our trip takes us through unknown territory, we might lose more time than we think, and we won't have as much time as we think. I say we just get moving, and then we can figure it out along the way."

Sardok HP 54/54 AC 21/16/16--Atlas2112
Friday June 26th, 2015 1:22:21 PM

Sardok listens closely to all angles. It seems like the decision amongst those with Power is to delay...and to delay usually means to defer, and to defer means to not. Hence, perhaps a more modest goal?

"Alleah, you said you could get a message to yourself, yeah? How about we let the tower fall and let all other events play out, but you simply send a message to yourself telling you that you will meet a goblin named "Rais" and that you shouldn't let him near the glass trees? Isn't that a modest enough goal? The worst case scenario is that he still dies, in which case we've lost nothing. But if he's kept as safe as his sister, isn't the little bit of risk worth it?"

With that Sardok has grown board with such high-flutin' things. His eyes start reflexively scanning the room wondering about what he could safely pickpocket, but barely suppresses the urge, and follows the rest outside and onward!

Hazel shakes his head.
"I feel in my guts that trying to change the past is a very bad idea. Really bad. What happened, happened. We move forward. We learn and continue onwards. Try to go backwards, and change the past... I think is... wrong. Better to go home as fast as we are able, and make sure we arrive after we disappeared, if only a minute later."

Alleah listens to what everyone has to say. If she does contact herself, maybe it will make things better? But it could also make things worse?

"I don't know what the right thing to do is. So let's just take buy a divination scroll and start the journey back. If the divination says to alert myself, then I will. Until then, I think Shel and Hazel are right. Let's just start the journey back and make the decision on alerting ourselves when we are a bit closer"

[DM StevenVdB] - Maybe a little fix here, a small nudge there...
Sunday June 28th, 2015 5:54:59 PM

FRIDAY POST

The Humble's Sword continue to ponder the possibilities of messaging home, flying home, arriving home using disguises with maybe a little fix here, a small nudge there... Murphy also raises the question if they could enter Koshe Marr from a different angle... after all, if they were to keep the tower from collapsing the group would never have entered Koshe Marr... would never have been able to save at least one Goblin child nor... would they even be here pondering this matter?!?

Alleah struggles still with the whole matter. Perhaps this was meant to be but that is not what Wardd would teach! People make their own luck. So instead she suggest getting a scroll of Divination and start the trip back. Time will tell what will happen... time... a funny word in these circumstances...

Shel nods. Figuring out a more precise plan as they get close to the Ford will be their best bet. The trip back will perhaps cause some delays but if they keep moving, they can figure it out aling the way.

Meddeling with time can be dangerous. Sardok however thinks he might have come up with a way... if Alleah were to send a small message back to herself telling her she will meet a Goblin child named Raïs and not to let that child near glass trees... a modest goal... perhaps such tiny changes in the past won't have big changes in the future right?

Hazel's guts try to tell him that changing the past is a very bad idea... really bad... what happened happened. We learn and continue onwards.

"Better to go home as fast as we are able, and make sure we arrive after we dissapeared, if only a minute later. "
An interesting thought...

Bliss urges her fellow witch to cast the dream-message spell... their fastest and bestest choice he thinks.

Alleah no longer knows what is best. Seems like no one truely knows what could happen... it could make things better but could it also make things worse?!?

"Let's just start the journey back and make the decision on alerting ourselves when we are a bit closer"

Shel was almost moved to tears by the gifts given by the goblins. "I'm embarrassed to admit that I had awful thoughts about goblins before meeting your family. I promise that from now on, I'll tell everyone about the wonderful family of goblins I met, and to not dumb dumb prejudices like I had. Please take care of your special girl...," she says with a hug, to the goblins.

Shel didn't plan on shopping for any other items, so she was ready to depart as the others were prepared.

Hazel thanks the goblin innkeeper family.
"You are by far my favorite Goblins. I had never believe, well, to call a Goblin friend. Isra, remember to behave!"
OOC: When does Hazel has to roll to get rid of his four Negative Levels?
Another question, he has, with the new loot, 2,338.3 gp.
Can he pay to have his sling staff enchanted to +1 enhancement?
Can he do it now?
Needs to be done in the catacombs?

(OOC: Goods are being sold in the Catacombs, and Alleah is purchasing a scroll with the earlier d100=100 roll!)

Alleah spends quite a period of time squeezing Isra with big hugs. "If you or your family ever need anything, send a message to Humble's Ford for me. Ok?" She's only known the girl for a few days, but Alleah can feel herself start to get a little teary as she walks away

"And be good to your parents!" she calls over her shoulder

------------
On the road, Alleah answers Bliss' question "I don't know the spell, per se, but I bought a scroll. We have one shot with it, so best time it to make it count"

[DM StevenVdB] -"You are by far my favorite Goblins.

One by one the Humble's Sword say goodby to Isra and her family. Alleah finishes her trade with the merchant (if nobother staffer gets your order I'll do it tomorrow).

Hazel had hoped to use his new stash pf gold for uograding his sling staff... But out here there's no entrance to the Catacombs...

Alleah's hugs are returned by Isra. The Goblin kid too grew fond of the Halfling Witch... Who knows... Perhaps they will meet again someday!

And so the grouo steps beyond the fence of the Goblin's Rest and into the lands of Izen. Dyma's bearings get you to the South Peaseblossom soon enough...

Bliss flies high on Mookie ... he is trying to see Blackbird Forest to the west, where his Aunt Priss raised him in her walking cottage and where his mom made a statue of her with him and his sisters. Maybe he can see the forest far off as a green smudge? That would be nice, he thinks.

Murphy - (Kim)
Tuesday June 30th, 2015 3:00:23 AM

[Swamped weekend, Monday]
"That is most kind of you, Dyma," Murphy says as the goblin father shares with them. "We shall think of you and your family as occasion arises for us to use these precious gifts. May the abundance of Eberyon come your way when you have need."

He turns to Isra's mother. "Fenna, you live among people of strong will. May your gentle spirit serve to temper them, that they combine flexibility with their strength, that the family may be resilient amidst life's ups and downs.

He claps his arm around the goblin girl's shoulders for a moment as though she were his sister. "Isra, may you take the best of your parents, and the wisdom of your nana. Someday, if you have a son, name him for your brother, and raise him with all your might, with all your care."

He gives the family five acorns. "Plant these. Water them from time to time. Years from now, you will have strong oak trees."

He takes his leave of Isra's family along with his friends.

From the merchant, Murphy sees about buying a wand of cure light wounds, 3 lengths of silk rope (150') and an equal amount of hemp rope, and some saddlebags which he figures might be adjusted to work with the form of a large eagle. Because perhaps there will be elements of it useful for his harnass idea, he also purchases a net hammock or, if such is not available, a 5'x5' fishing net - or whatever reasonably strong net he can purchase. Also he wishes to buy straps and belts and buckles such as are used on pack animals and for securing loads.

Still considering the notion of flying his friends back home, he uses his knowledge of rope, and the times past when he has saddled and harnassed ponies and large dogs, arranged pack saddles and saddle bags, then played with the quite different form of locomotion of the eagle - large or small. Aunt Nilli, friends to animals and birds of many sorts, taught him some of their ways. He never saw her saddle a creature, other than a pony, though.

Some such as Hazel and Bliss, Alleah, too, are good riders, Sardok, too. Though she is quite nimble, Shel has not done a lot of riding, to his recollection. And... what of Faoil? Riding the back of an eagle? How could that work?

Then, only Bliss is accustomed to staying with a bird in flight. How hard will it be for the others to adapt to this different type of mount?

"I will put together a saddle/harnass for me in the form of a giant eagle. Hazel, do you suppose you can fit it on me once I have changed? For today, let's just see if we can get something that works well enough for starters. I will change into a giant eagle, you place the harnass on me, make adjustments. Sardok, you may have some ideas, too. All of you, any of you, do you want to see if we can make this work together? Each will need a place to sit. Hazel, the greatest challenge may be to persuade Faoil to get on the back of an eagle. He will certainly need a harness to help hold him in. And I don't fancy him relieving himself on my back out of anxiety, but am willing to risk it."

After breakfast and an hour on foot, Murphy comments to Mookie - should he and Bliss fly down close enough to converse. "Did you realize that it somehow may have been you who caused Isra's father to appear? You called 'Candyman' five times. Take the 4th through 7th letters, and you have 'Dyma.'"

Of course, Murphy realizes that Dyma showed up before Mookie did the attempted calling, but, hey, so what?

After this, he takes off his backpack, empties some of it into a bag, and gives it to Hazel to hang on to. "Carry this for me while I'm flying, all right?"

Then, as soon as the rest agree they are ready to try stage 1 of his flying experiment, the druid transforms into a giant eagle. He gives a scream just for practice, then spreads his wings, and waits for Hazel to get him saddled up.

The way he rigged it, there are seven spots to get oneself affixed to, so that, once the loops of rope are wrapped around the torso and limbs, the riders can stay on without using their hands.

Getting accustomed to the rhythm, the up and down of flight, that will take some doing. [Am wondering if people would be willing to devote a skill point to Riding, air mount, or Flying, or whatever skill it is that is needed.]

[Skills (with the bonuses to his rolls) of potential relevance to the success or failure of Murphy's giant eagle express halfling / war dog carrier project: Survival: +11; Ride: +7; Perform, dancing: +3; Handle animal: +8; Knowledge (nature): +10); Fly: +7; Acrobatics: +5; Knowledge (engineering): +6; Perception: +16.
Do I take 10 on the first go-round?

(OOC: DM Hugh question/comment: What are you reskinning giant eagle as? pteranodon or dire bat? This is important for flight speed/maneuverability/figuring out carrying capacity and any potential flying combat that may or may not occur. Druids can only take the form of animals and a giant eagle is a magical beast, but for continuity sake I will allow a reskinning of animal forms that can be taken. Also I see no reason why you cannot take 10 on these checks (no distractions/combat))

Alleah had been quite miserable, and is thankful for Murphy's distraction. She grins widely at his suggestion Bliss was behind their meeting with Dyma "Oooohh... spooky!"

If Alleah can find someone willing to sell the party a pony, she will indeed buy one. She will make sure that whoever sells it to her is giving her a good deal though (Appraise check: 17 after Taking 10. Don't want to buy a 'nag').

Hazel feels really ill, the power of the wraiths cursing thru him.
He kneels, hugging himself. He feels he is regaining some strength... but how much?
It depends on the help he gets... from 0 to 2 negative levels.
When he hears Murphy's plan he doesn't seem very convinced...
"Faoil? Flying on top of you? I don't think so, bumblebee... sounds like a bad idea."
He pats Faoil's back.
"What about me and him following you from the ground? You know we are fast, and with you scouting ahead I am sure we can do a good time, and yua are not so loaded."

"Yeah, the birds prefer otherwise," adds Mookie.

Bliss grins. "And are we going to have Miss Alleah cast her dreamtalking spell?"
