"Carver, wait. Would anyone entering through the door look up for a door in the roof? Let me and Mack sneak out there and have a look, Even if they see the door think of how long it took us to figure out how to get up here. We'll go have a look and then if the coast is clear, we can search for the pyramid that should open the rest of this place to us. Back in a couple of minutes."
Cameron casts Longstrider on himself and heads down the hallway, sneaking once he gets near the end.

The Mirror
Thursday July 30th, 2015 10:42:27 PM

The voice announcing the cancellation of the Lockdown puts the group on edge. Others could find there way in perhaps and cause issues. Then there was the question of how the beacon and defenses activated in the first place. Perhaps it was the original breech of the outer door by the goblins. Perhaps something else inside that the group has not encountered.

Carver calls to go back to the main cube chamber and keep an eye on the door. Cameron offers that he and Mack could do so not only quickly, but quietly and unnoticed. Just in case something has come in or is in the process of entering

Osul postulates that with the shut down, things within the structure might start to fall back into the realm of what would be normal. If that is the case, it creates a dangerous situation. Not only for those suspended 60' up but also navigating down a 60' wall to the main chamber.

Thus far, thankfully, all of the odd gravitational pulls are still seemingly in full affect

Cameron and Mack make their way back. Leaving the mirror area is as simple as walking. Mack is gently carried as he walks to the nearest 'gound'. Cameron and Mack move down the long tube and arrive at teh main chamber. There is nothing about and no sounds to be heard. What they do note is that another passage has opened. Spotting the coin that was left in front of the original entrance tells the pair the new opening is in fact, the original. The way out or in depending on perception, is now open

" There's nothing new about it, it's the door we came in. Let's get back to the red orbs and see if they have the pyramid we need in them. Come on up, no visitor's yet."
Cameron heads down the wall and to the depressions the Red stone orbs are in, hoping that if they are placed in the box, they too will open and reveal the pyramid they need to delve deeper.

Atlas sees everyone going about their business. "Finding the pyramid is probably the key, let us know what you find. Carver, I'll stand guard with you in the main chamber while the others figure out the puzzle. The last thing we need is someone sneaking in on us. We'll need a runner if we get attacked...'Osul, you mind hanging out with us?"

Carver (John C) AC 16, AC 18 with shield, CMB 6, CMD 17, HP 21/21 Character Sheet
Friday July 31st, 2015 4:51:46 PM

"Actually Atlas, I have an even better idea. This opening up here gives us a huge advantage. We can stay up here, use ranged weapons if anything comes after us, and they'll have to try to climb 60' up a wall, unless they get lucky and figure out the shifting of the floors."
Carver takes out his bow and watches the corridor entrance to the room where the opening is high up on the wall.

Back to the Red Orbs
Friday July 31st, 2015 10:38:01 PM

Carver and Atlas takes up position high above the main chamber at the centaurs suggestion. From there, they will have a superior position against any that try to assault the group.

Cameron and Mack head down the wall to Passage 2, half way down is a Red sphere. In Second Room on the floor is the other red Sphere. The last time anyone touched one, they were blasted by an electrical trap. Then again when the sphere was placed in the alter a fire trap sprung forth. Thus far, only pain and traps have been involved with the Red Spheres

"Thus far, only pain and traps have been involved with the Red Spheres"
But I'm a slow learner, so why not mess with it more.
Cameron turns to Mack and says loudly enough for the others in the ceiling to hear.
" I can't help but notice that we said we were going to mess with the rocks that weighed over 100 pounds and the two weakest members of the party, who weigh less than 100 pounds combined, with their gear, are the ones you expect to rush down here and move said rocks. Would one of you strong people like to come down here and effect the heavy lifting before one of us gets pinned beneath one of these rocks?"

Cameron shrugs and again looks at Mack.
" Guess it's you and me buddy."
He walks to the first red orb and after stretching a little, plants his feet and lifts it out of the floor. Once it is out he lets it down, outside the depression and rolls it to the box. He makes sure Mack is far enough away that if he gets shocked, Mack won't get caught in the blast. He hopes that swapping the orientation of the orb in the jello keeps any detonation from happening.

Cameron's Maximum lift is 150 lbs ( I know right? <flex>) so as long as the orbs weigh less than that he CAN move them around. It is one of the least graceful thing ever witnessed in the Wold, but it can happen.

Hi Guys! Corsario Here! I am back on the air. I wasn't able to connect to the wold, but I finally fixed the issue! Sorry I won't post the DM post tonight (I'll do it tomorrow in the morning).

Considering that if we beat anything worth more xp than a raid goldfish we level, that is not an exaggeration Mack.
Corasario, we defeated Asads and have shut off the distress beacon. We still think there is more to learn here, honestly for me though, any more delays or setbacks and I may just walk out and go home to the Tree. For me this has been a very trying and frustrating part of the module that we had none of the required skills or spells to defeat.

For defeating the soldier and shutting down the beacon you get 2,100 xp. Leveling time?
Mack rolls the sphere merrely until he reaches a special spot on the ground, some tile with a significance you haven't seen so far.
"Alert! Level 2 Risk! Do not remove the spheres until the we are ready to fulfill the prophesy, or we risk the removal of this section of the continuum. The use of lethal force to prevent this is authorized."
Besides the message you don't any any more movement or noises.
On the other hand, try to roll the sphere to the Tree of Parting would be REALLY hard. Remeber how hard was to reach here, without it.

Atlas watches Cameron come into the main room, listens to him and watches him head out. He really struggles with whether or not he should stop him, but eventually just keeps quiet and lets him keep going.

Without Cameron down there keeping things sane Atlas decides he needs to get back down there to try and keep Mack from killing them all. He heads down the tunnel and picks up the sphere that Mack was rolling. He takes it to the room and places it where the other spheres were (removing them if needed). He then goes and gets the other sphere and puts in the spot next to the other in hopes that they'll open up like the first set of spheres did and reveal the pyramid.

He ignores the booming voice warning them about Level 2.

It seems that there was no "win" when it came to that adventure, no matter what happened it was going to poison us. Now look at us, another adventure, another frustrated group bickering among ourselves. I'm to blame as much as anyone. We needed a leader to step up and I failed. So think about this on our trip back to the tree. Are you willing to put the group first, or are we going to continue to be a group of individuals? We need to either band together or we need to split, and if we're going to do this together we need to change our values and our approach. The time is now, because another adventure like the past two and we're going to end up dead."

Atlas takes a moment and says, "It makes sense that we stay the night inside, we'll likely need our strength for the trip home."

Is that pleasant but annoying voice still mentioning the move to level 2 inside Corsario? I would agree with Atlas that sleeping there makes much more sense, unless the alarms will keep us awake.
Also when can we level to 3rd? Now while we rest or do we need to return to the Tree? I have things like looking into the WLA and taking the test to become an Avenger to do so I know part of it needs to be at the Tree, but I could gain the hp and spells here. What is the call?

Then we got here, and absolutely no one had any clue what was going on, and once we managed to get in, none of our skills, yes, I know we are still mostly untrained, but even so, not one of the skills we do have was useful at all.
I'm hoping whatever we end up facing next in defense of the Tree, will be something we might understand, if so, then I also hope we mesh into something resembling a team. I like teams, I guess it's my Fist training still showing. One person along may be strong, but a team working together, dwarfs that long person."

You can level (to level 3) "this night" so to speak.. please let me know when all of your character sheets are ready so I can take a look. We will take it easy a couple of days so you can take time to do it. About the WLA and the test for Avenger, when we are back in the tree (that will take a little longer).
As the alarms stopped as soon as you leave the sphere inside, you decide to sleep in the ruins. The beacon doesn't show anymore, which makes you smile a little, and no creatures appear on the night.
The next morning is somewhat cold and wet, but it is not raining. You start the march back to the tree.

Atlas wakes up and hear's from Cameron first thing in the morning. It brightens his day, he hates leaving things unfinished. Especially when there might be treasure or at least something interesting that occurs with the final puzzle.

"Cameron, I appreciate the change of heart. I'm with you, let's do this!"

With the night being quiet, Atlas is less concerned about being attacked now that they've spent an entire evening without incident. To that end, he goes with Cameron and helps get the orbs in place, anxious to see what happens when they put the orbs together. If they open and reveal a pyramid then they take that to the "mirror" and place it in the place with the pyramid shape. If the place starts shouting at them he ignores it unless it starts counting down or something that makes devastation

" In case it is a destruct command, you guys should probably be near the door, ready to go. If it turns out to be the pyramid we are looking for, we can all then go up and play with the mirror some more, sound good?"
After praying at midnight, Cameron walks over to the 'corpse' of Asads and tries a stronger version of the mending spell he tried before, to see if the construct can be gotten up and motivated again..(use Make Whole, repairing 14 damage, on Asads to see if he can be repaired. If it looks promising, keep at it with Mending spells.)
If this is not possible, he uses whatever knowledge he has of the forge( which is limited) to pull any rare metals out of the body, such as Adamantite, Mithril, Gold, Silver, Platinum. This was a pretty rare find and it must have cost a mint to make. Some of these components might still be inside and of use, or at least of value.

My sheet and header are updated.
I will be joining the WLA unless not allowed by the DMs. I have put the training bonuses on my sheet, but do not have access to them yet.
Corsario, James Dietz mentioned that if you need any help preparing for the Avenger test, he would be happy to help you, since he has been through it already. I know what I have to do, and I know what I want to do, flavorwise. I also know one outcome that I will have, pass or fail. It is a style decision for Cameron and the test will reveal it.

In the morning I follow the instructions and wait with Carver and the others at the exit but stand ready for anything, while Atlas and Cameron head back in for the one last try.

Macks returns to explore the place some more... he gets the clear impression the place is much more bigger and that many secrets are still here... but yes, you are done with the task that bring you here.
Cameron and Atlas put the red orbs in place. And the whole setup powers down. The red orbs seems stuck somehow in place, and you are no longer able to move them.
Carver plays some violin and makes sure his equipment is up to par.
Cameron fails to repair Asads, which seem much more complex that a mend spell will be able to fix. He is able to retrieve several pieces, and wonders in their delicacy and sophistication. Even if he know they are cogs in a very complex machine, they are so elegant that could be very well be worn as jewelry, or ornaments. To destroy them would be a sacrilege.

Cameron notices almost nothing as they march back to the Tree. His thoughts drift back to his prayers last night, and to the dreams that followed. His prayers had been different, deeper and more intense. As he prepared his spells he could feel the power in them deepen and settle into him. His capacity to hold his goddess's vengeance and venom had grown.
As he slept he kept having the same dream. In it he saw a tall, sinuously strong and beautiful woman with her back to him working at a forge. Her black hair was tightly braided behind her and her body was clad in form hugging black leather. He knew her immediately for who she was, and as he watched her work, he knew what she had on the anvil. Each swing of the hammer resonated through his being. It crushed away any doubt, any weakness. In the place of those impure thoughts and feelings was resolve and cunning. She raised the work in front of her, inspecting it. She turned it this way and that, looking for flaws in the edge. She seemed satisfied with her work, and plunged the blade back into the forge, pumping the bellows to heat it just right, preparing to quench it and harden the edge. When she pulled her work out and plunged it into the oil, Cameron awoke with a start. He was that blade and it was time for him to be quenched and to see if all of his goddess's work had yielded a useable tool. He would take the test when he returned to the Tree. Priests of the goddess would find him and he would go with them to the place of testing and see if he had learned enough to be one of her chosen.

Carver is very happy to be headed back to the tree, being out of that place suited him well.
He had a song in his heart and was unusually perceptive, for him at least. Watching the surrounding area, reminded him of a song he hadn't heard since he was a kid, he remembered his mother taking him to a play where performers of various races sang songs and acted the parts of heroes of legend.
The song he remembered clearly was of a group of adventurers headed out to defeat the evil wizard.
Carver begins to sing the song those actors did when they were traveling. It was a catchy jaunty tune, and he was enjoying himself singing it.

He appreciates Carver's song, and the earlier violin - music isn't something he has put any time to of late. He wonders...

Upon seeing the bears, Atlas says, "Mama bear is going to be around here somewhere, let's take a wide path around so as not to upset them or her."

" Good luck, we'll try to drag something back to the Tree to see if Gargul will let you back into the Wold afterwards. Since we saw no signs of Orcs, or other hostile humanoids I think avoiding them is prudent."
For his part, Cameron fades into the wilds and follows the group trying to do the sane thing that doesn't get them eaten by momma bear, which is to hide and avoid the cubs by backing up and circling around them. Jancassis serves him well in this, since she teaches her followers to not be seen by those unaware of their presence.

Thursday August 13th, 2015 10:29:36 AM

Cameron stops when he hears Carver's words. Nature was one of the most chaotic and chance riddled forces in the Wold. Wouldn't it see to this? The answer, yes it would, but no amount of luck or chaos was going to let a single bear prevail against the Brothers with their size, cunning and hunger. They would kill the mother, eat her and track her back to the cubs and do the same. If they didn't decide to torture them and prolong their deaths, like ogres were known to do. Either way the bears would die and this part of the Red Hills would be the Brother's land, not nature's. That didn't sit well with Cameron.
" Brace yourselves, because this might be a shock, but I agree with Mack."
Cameron waits a moment to let that set in, then explains himself.
" You all know it seems to all come down to Jancassis with me, so let me explain. As far as I know, she has no moral alignment. She represents the desire and will of those who seek revenge and most if not all who follow her use that for unsavory ends, meaning she is regarded as evil. Gargul was seen this way at one time, until he put his foot down and declared that death was natural and not evil and should not be seen that way. I am the only priest I know of that regards Jancassis as a beneficial and helpful force. It is up to me to prove that to the Wold and lift the dark veil that she is seen through. These ogres are most likely the Brothers. They follow her and I want, no, I need to see if I can make them see her the way I do. Ogre nature says that I am a fool to try and that my chances of success are so small, that no bookie in the Wold would even give me odds to explain this to them, much less to survive the lesson. "
"However you all know that I believe she tests me each and every day. What greater test would there be than for me to undo years of ogre thinking and change their minds, turn them to help others instead of eat them. Let's catch up to them and while I try to save the Brothers from themselves, see if between the rest of you woodsmen you can convince the bear to leave and not get involved."
"If, most likely when they decide I am a fool and that they have no kinship with me, I will have done what I can and we will have to kill them so that this part of the Red Hills can heal itself and shake off their dark influence. That is the priest of Jancassis I will strive to become. A redeemer both of people and their opinion of her. What greater test could there be?"

The light of fanaticism that has been absent from Cameron all this time in the hillside has returned. In there he did not know what to do or how he was supposed to further the name of his goddess. Now, it seems the veil has lifted and he has a new purpose, one he may well follow into an early grave.

Hi Guys! A public announcement.
Just got informed the project I am working on it going to end, so I need to find myself a new one.
So maybe I will be somewhat spotty on the posting, but it is also probably I will get more time to play!

You move as silently as you are able, follwing the tracks, which seems to reveal chasing, speeding and finally running.
Carver is the first one to hear it... unseen, covered by trees, the sound of fighting, the grunts and puffs of a bear accompanied of coarse ogrish voices...

Before that, after Crosseye's arrow, I can drop a Fog Cloud 100' or so away -- maybe the other side of them as a distraction or bluff. My spells are more geared for combat today, but when I'm close enough I can summon, say, a small Earth elemental or a Giant Spider."

"What else are we bringing?"

Plan (multiple rounds): Fog Cloud, close nearer to the fight (sticking to cover if possible - Woodland stride), summon something by the ogres, heal the bear (assuming she is damaged, or a minor Restoration is she is exhausted from the chase), speak to her in hushed Sylvan (in conjunction with Wild Empathy) and attempt to convince her to return to her cubs, who were happily playing when we saw them, but left them well alone to look for her.

Cameron speaks giantish, the same as ogres so he catches what they are saying.

Cameron spoke at length with the Brothers, does this sound like them?"

" They are engaged with something, and it sounds as if they almost have it dead. I will do what I can while you all come up with a plan. And I'll try not to die while doing so."
-------------
Cameron does not stop while the others plan but plunges straight for the sounds of combat at a jog ( double move 60' ). If he catches sight of the Brothers he will shout to them, in giantish.
" Brothers, stay your weapons and allow that bear to live. It has young nearby that need it's protection. I want to offer you a way to follow Jancassis that helps people rather than hurting them. A way that makes you friends rather than just getting you meals. Will you listen to me?"
----------------
If it is the other band of ogres they have encountered, or really any ogres other than the Brothers, Cameron will instead drop a sound burst among them so that it hits the ogres but not the bear (if possible).
Sound Burst 10' radius spread for 1 damage Fort Save DC 14 or stunned for 1 round
You blast an area with a tremendous cacophony. Every creature in the area takes 1d8 points of sonic damage and must succeed on a Fortitude save to avoid being stunned for 1 round. Creatures that cannot hear are not stunned but are still damaged.
He will then call back to the others numbers of opponents and ranges, as he readies himself to be the focus of attention at least for awhile.

I'm initially shocked that Cameron's agrees with me, but then I take off in a hurry to aid the bear, missing the rest of the speech. I feel some guilt in not sticking around to hear the rest, but I'm hoping to get to the bear while we can still assist her.

Working on a combat map, I'll have it during the weekend, and you have time to finish leveling up.
The ones that approach find a couple of ogres, not the "brothers" you met before, flanking and attacking the mama bear, who seems to be in a very bad situation, hurt, but fighting for all it is worth.
They are in line with you, at the same distance, in the trees (so there is no clear "charge lane" and they all have partial cover by the trunks.
Neither of them have seen you.
You have a "surprise" round on them.

I can't keep up with the faster movers, but I also don't want to ruin the surprise for them. I'll shoot at the closest ogre with my goblin short bow, but I'm trying to time it so that I don't ruin the surprise opportunities for any of the hand-to-hand people.

Time for a new header. The clockwork soldier is long gone. 8)
Note that the head of Cameron's whip is enchanted to look like and act like the head of a snake.

IC
Cameron's mind raced. His hornet's would never get through the tough hide of an ogre, and to hit them with the sound burst he would end up hurting the bear as much as the ogres. With so few options he chose the only one that he could count on, a distraction. Summoning all of his courage as he slid to a halt, he touched himself and uttered a short prayer to Jancassis for protection. (Cast shield of Faith, +2 deflection AC) He then called to the ogres, shouting to be heard, in their own tongue.
In Giantish " Leave the bear alone! The Lady of Pain commands it! I am her priest and known to the Brothers! Defy me and the Wold will come alive and punish you! So says the Lady, through me! Do you dare to defy her?"
Diplomacy 21
Cameron really hopes the others are ready to get these things once they turn on him, because he has no way of really hurting them since they are so much bigger than he is. Even so, as he speaks he feels the whip leap into his hand, and sees the head of the whip writhe with the power that Jancassis has imbued to it. The tongue of the snake within licks the air, searching for prey.
His mind is unnaturally calm. No fear enters it, even though the ogres are three times as tall as he is and weigh probably a hundred times what he does. He knows that he is doing what is right and saving the bear will possibly prevent any need in the cubs of revenge. This could make the whole Red Hills a better place, eliminating bear attacks on the other inhabitants of the hills. The mind boggles at how such a small feat done by a small halfling could change everything.

We all get a single action in the surprise round. It all happens at the same time. I cast a spell and yelled,( which might be 2 actions, if so, I do the yelling and skip the spell). So my yelling does break the surprise round, but so would any actions we take, since they are all simultaneous. You can shoot, anyone else close enough can shoot (which might be hard to tell without a map or range from the DM). The cover will give them an AC bonus to their flat footed AC (given Ogre dexterity, or lack thereof that probably means a better AC than their normal AC).
As for your charging John, I can find nothing in the rules stopping you from charging a creature with cover, but to do so in the surprise action, you would need to have LoS, a clear path, meaning we are not in your way, nor are any trees (which I think is what is going to defeat you on this try), no difficult terrain, which I think the trees are going to count as (however this is just a guess) and you would need to be within your normal move distance of them since a charge that went any further would require a full round action. So yeah, you pretty much need the map.
If it is any comfort, I think they will either stop and scratch their heads at me, or go all out to try and get to me and eat me. Either way I plan to lead them to the most open patch of forest I can find to clear up that 'cover' thing.

A Strange Occurance [DM Jerry]
Wednesday August 19th, 2015 9:48:50 PM

Suddenly there is a warm golden glow and then the sound of harps, lutes, and guitars.

The ogres get a look of horror on their faces and freeze in place.

The scene is surreal as rose petals begin to fall from....somewhere. Then clover begins to grow around the feet of the ogres.

It is hard to see the beasts with all the....what is this? One would almost expect some nymph or creature of Eberyon to be causing this. But it couldn't be.

As if in a dream, the ogres and surrounding terrain fade and large mushrooms, giant trees with trunks too thin to hold them up replace them. The stars are....larger, brighter.

Then coming around a tree, a short round man...with ears too pointy to be a halfling.

"Oh, Holy Lem! I have visitors. Come! Welcome!"

He skips off around to the other side of the tree.

He peaks around again. "Come on! The nasty ogre beasts will still be there."

A huge brush [larger than the door] and an even larger can of paint is to the side.

"You guys know Deeproot, right? Of course you do. Sorry. Silly of me to ask. I'm Peevish by the way. No, that's my name."

Sunday August 23rd, 2015 9:47:35 AM

Mack fails utterly with his Disable Device check, but is very confident that the door and keyhole is not trapped. This does have an effect on the keys, however. In a high pitched voice, the keys begin in chorus to scream, "No my job. My door. Go away."

They run to towards the door and quickly push Mack's hands away and unlock the door.

Inside is a living chamber with bed, cooking pot, etc. all carved in intricate designs out of wood. Though the wooden pot is boiling, it is not burning, nor the wood being harmed.

Peevish rises and skips in as if this is a daily occurance and begins to use a ladle to dish out the stew in the pot. "Come eat! Will help give you strength for the ogres." He hands out a bowl to each of our heroes.

Then someone finally notices the painting on the wall. A circle of ancient trees in a forest, with one of those ancient trees walking away from the rest. The title on the picture is, "Deeproot's Departure." Peevish says, "Yes, that is for you as well. Take it home to Deeproot. It may stir him if you place it in the proper place. Now hurry along, the ogres are recovering! Eat! Take the painting! Run! No, finish the stew! There! Hurry now! Goodbye!"

The pocket realm fades in sunbeams and the smell of stew. The hulking figures of something ahead begins to reform. Ogres!

That will make the Heroes Feast 1d8+5, for minimum caster level to use.
I am headed to work soon. I will put in a Post tonight to reset the scene and hopefully tomorrow morning to get the week started. We are going to start off on an even footing with the Ogres. but the heroes feast will make up for it. You'll see, it'll be fine.

ADM David Ogre fight round 1
Monday August 24th, 2015 10:47:22 AM

OOC
OK guys. I work mostly opening shift this week, so other than today and tomorrow you can expect posts either before I go in, around 4 am on average, or after I get home, after 4pm average.
Terrain- I have no map, so this will be done without one. The trees that were screening them have thinned out now that you are closer and the ogres have no cover.
The arrows that were fired in the surprise round all failed to hit their AC with the cover and range.
IC
Everyone that wants to gets to eat their fill of stew (remember to roll your 1d8+5 temporary hp). Peevish rolls the painting (frame and all!) up and hands it to Crosseye, since the Ranger had shown so much interest in it. He cautions Crosseye not to unroll it until they are home, because it will not roll back up for any of them. As each person exits the tree, they end up standing in a crowd 50 feet from the ogres. Up closer now they get a better look at the brutes and notice things that they hadn't seen before.
There are really THREE ogres. All of them wear chain shirts and are using heavy flails to beat up the bear. They also have large longbows and quivers of arrows on their backs. The third ogre, that you all missed seeing before, stands 70 feet away, holding the leashes of two large wolves.
Mamma bear, who was frozen just like the ogres were seems to be pretty beat up and deperately looking for a way out of her current situation.
Time unfreezes and the two ogres doing the beating turn and look at Cameron. They both scratch their heads and one speaks, maybe to Cameron, maybe to the other ogres, you can't be sure. In Giantish he says Highlight to display spoiler: {" The Lady o' pain? Who's he talkin' 'bout? Dis be our dinner! Wait, it has CUBS? Mmmmmm."}
In response, the third ogre, the one with the wolves shouts at the other two in Giantish. Highlight to display spoiler: {Forget the bear, get them! They has loots and will taste even better on the spit! And they will scream and beg while they roast. We can track the bear back to it's cubs later and get them for dessert!"}
The two ogres stop fighting the bear and turn towards the group and the third one lets go of the leashes holding the wolves and draws his bow. The wolves rush off to either side and disappear into the woods, attempting to get behind the group. You now face 2 ogre footmen at a distance of 20 feet from you and a bowman who is 70 feet from you. The footmen stand 5 feet apart (there is a 5 foot space between them). As stated, the wolves ran into the trees and were lost from sight (DC20 perception to see and target them if you want to shoot them this round) The ogres seem ready for your attack and waiting for you to make the next move.

For it's part the bear looks puzzled. This quickly passes and it bolts off into the woods, probably to rejoin it's cubs.

Cameron listens to the ogres as they talk back and forth. His frown deepens. He translates enough for his friends to know what's going on.
" They think we would taste better than the bear. They plan to track her back to her cubs after they kill us and get the cubs for dessert. They have no idea how wrong they are."
Cameron tries to follow the path the wolves take but they are too fast for him. He turns to the Ogres and smiles. It is not a nice smile, in fact, it chills you all to the bone.
" Grouping up eh? Bad idea." With a simple gesture and a touch of his holy symbol, Cameron calls down the wrath of Jancassis on the two ogre footmen. Suddenly the air around them rings with a deafening crash and the ogres ears start to bleed. Cast sound burst for 4 damage to the ogres, DC 15 Fort save or they are stunned.

Carver lowers his lance, chooses an angle to charge one of the footmen ogres. he'll chose the one on the left. That way once he strikes at the ogre he can ride past it, leaving him out of melee range, as long as someone engages him, to keep his attention. He wants to end up about 30 feet and to the side of the archer bowman, with his angle......
"Someone keep him from chasing after me, or I'll not be able to keep this up." Carver says just as he's launching his attack. (Centaur Charge to line up angle, Ride by Attack to avoid the AoO)

Cameron's spell has more success than he would have thought against such tough opponents. The right hand ogre's eyes roll back as the burst of sound stuns him. Atlas is able to run in while this happens and deliver his attack, which slashes the ogre across the thigh and draws blood.(this is Ogre 2). Osul's aim is off and misses the ogre he aims his storm burst at (but not by much). Carvers charge should be free of problems, but the ogres were ready for something like this. Atlas got lucky that his ogre was stunned, Carver not so much. As the Centaur closes the Ogre takes the swing he had been reserving for a charger, lucky for Carver it misses, the two handed flail crashing into the turf at the Centaur's feet. As the ogre swings Carvers lance bites deep into it's side and then back out again as the centaur completes his charge. Crosseye comes running up behind Carver and as he does, the ogre recovers and attacks with an attack of opportunity as the ranger closes the gap Crosseye is not so lucky as the heavy flail smashes into his chest, slamming the wind out of him for 12 damage. Mack follows Crosseye into the fray and launches a series of blows at the kneecaps of the ogre. One of them does seem to hurt the brute, causing enough damage that the brute drops to the ground, dead.
The Ogre in the back with the longbow takes aim at Carver and unleashes an arrow the size of a fletched spear. Because Carver is slightly off balance from charging he does not get his shield up in time and the arrow hits him, causing 7 damage.
Then the wolves reappear. Cameron and 'Osul are the only ones that did not advance to fight the ogres, leaving them vulnerable. the wolves charge in from either side and ravage the two healers. Cameron sidesteps the wolf's attack, but 'Osul is not so lucky. The wolf bites him for 8 damage and attempts to drag the druid to the ground. Solid as a tree, 'Osul fights off the trip attempt and remains standing.

Cameron takes a 5' step away from the wolf that attacked him and as he does the whip on his belt seems to just appear in his hands as if called there by his will. With a hiss he turns and snaps the whip at the wolf savaging 'Osul. It snaps across the wolf's face and leaves a small trail of blood as the head becomes an actual snakes head and bites the wolf in the snout. ( 2 nonlethal damage and 3 lethal damage). The halfling then plants his feet and stands his ground preparing to fight off the wolves. Other than the hiss he remains silent.

Crosseye charges at the Wolf on 'Osul and slams his axe into it.
'Osul, not to be outdone, spends an entire round summoning a large ant behind the Wolf on Cameron. t the very end of the round it appears and bites and grapples the wolf, but fails to sting it. ( Sting after grapple makes sense. The ant surely did grapple it, but I rolled and missed with the stinger.)
Carver charges the ogre archer, dipping in with his lance as he passes. He hits but fails to kill the archer.
Atlas swings hard and cuts into the ogre in front of him, waking it up from la-la land.
Mack nimbly dashes over to this ogre and attacks it with a single punch( too far of a move to flurry) connecting solidly.

The ogre footman takes a swipe at Atlas with his heavy Flail and misses.
The archer follows Carvers charge around and looses another arrow, striking the centaur in the back as he passes for 6 damage.
The Wolf on Cameron becomes frantic as it is grappled by the giant ant and tries to escape. It leaves some fur behind, but manages to get away from the ant.
The Wolf facing 'Osul finds itself greatly outnumbered, but fights on anyway, sure that if it tries to run it will be cut down. It chomps dwn on 'Osul again for 5 damage, and again tries to trip him, and again it fails.

I continue on my attack at the wolf that bit 'Osul. I raise "Little Mack" up and bring it down with my might ( Hit AC 14+1=15 damage 12) slicing into it once again!

Carver charges the archer again and it drops to the ground.
Atlas slashes the ogre footman again but fails to kill it.
Mack runs over to help 'Osul and is slamed hard as he moves there.
'Osul heals Mack for 9 damage.
Crosseye hits and kills wolf 2.
Cameron turns and slashes at wolf 1 with his whip, drawing blood and the Giant ant agai grabs the Wolf in it's pincers and this time stings it. The wold stops moving.

The remaining Ogre stops laughing and looks around. Te knowledge that it is alone crosses it's face and for a moment you see what could only be fear in it's eyes. In giantish it says, Highlight to display spoiler: {" They will blame this on me if I go back, but they might lets me live."}
He turns and runs for the woods as fast as his legs will carry him.

Cameron has never heard of an Ogre that was afraid.....of anything. He knows it should pay for hurting Mack, but decides that if something could make an Ogre afraid, it would pay when it returned home. Instead he calls the others over, away from the downed monsters and will channel to heal them.
" It sounds like he will be paying his penance once he reaches his masters, whomever they are. Jancassis will see to it I am sure. Come over here and let me heal you all."

Channel energy for 7 healing once the others who need healing arrive.

Remember Mack like the rest of you had some temporary hit points from the feast.
Also the Ogre withdrew, which exempts him from AoO, and he was really running when he left. Chances are he won't be stopping soon.

'Osul farewells the ant (who will have a free round to do something formidably formicidine before returning to whence-ever), before gathering with his friends.

"Well, that was a bit of an adventure. Do we still have the picture? Does anyone need a bandage?"

Mack stands back up after the terrible assault from the ogre. He dusts himself off and looks back at Atlas with a frown. "I thought you killed that thing. I mean, it was a really well placed strike and the amount of blood was more than I have in all my body. Hmm, next time would you mind killing it so that I don't die? I mean, dying could be fun, there's the Realms of Shadow, the Lands of Rest, etc. Maybe I would meet a god."

After Mack feels Cameron's healing flow through him he shivers, "Thanks Cameron, but goodness, could we find a way to make that feel less weird? You might think that I like weird, but really I only like weird sometimes, and that sometimes can change depending on how well I'm playing my banjo that day."

Mack takes a moment to look himself over, "Sorry Cameron, I do really appreciate that you're trying to heal me and all, but do you see this scratch on my arm? And this bruise on my shoulder? I'm still not feeling 100%. Maybe 'Osul can help finish the job? You did a good job though, I really thought I was going to die there."

Mack goes to ask 'Osul for help healing his remaining wounds.

Atlas shakes his head, frustrated that he didn't finish off the ogre. "Sorry Mack, my bad. Go get yourself healed up. Do you need any help?"

Atlas helps Mack up and over to the group, then checks in on everyone else to make sure they're OK. "Nice work everyone, great job working together. I do not think that we have ever done so well as a team, so this gives us something positive to build off of. Shall we start heading back to the Tree?"

Before they go Atlas makes sure that the creatures that are bleeding out are put out of their misery. He cleans his blade afterwards and joins up with everyone as we depart.

As the Ogre runs off, Carver considers chasing after him, but he had seen a friend hit the ground and trotted over there instead. Cameron does his healing, "Thanks Cameron."
He then says, "We should search the corpses, we might find something we can sell or even use. There hasn't been much useful found since we left the tree, a few nice pieces of gear, but adventuring is expensive, at least it is when you're my size."
Carver heads back to the bowman and starts searching him, gathering up what gear is salvageable.

" Did anyone else notice that those ogres were wearing some pretty nice gear, or was it just me? Let me see if any of it was magical."

Cameron casts detect magic on the ogres and Worgs.

I group up with the rest to get healed. " Thanks Cameron that did it I am all good! Yes 'Osul I have the picture all rolled still. We will look it over at the tree. Plus we should see if we can find those bears and make sure they are ok I hate to leave those Cubs alone out here."

A search of the Ogres finds that they are much better equipped than your average ogre. They have 2 Large Chain shirts, 2 Large Masterwork Heavy Flails, 2 Large Masterwork Longbows and 4 potions. The Worgs have collars on them that have an elongated circle on them with three dots in it. The Ogres bear a brand on their forearm of the same symbol.
DC 10 wisdom check to Highlight to display spoiler: { this is a symbol you have seen before. The goblins guarding the doorway into the hillside had the exact same marks. Oddly enough, their gear was of way better quality than goblins normally have too.}
Once the gear is stashed and the wounds healed The group can decide where to go next. The most obvious path, is home to the Tree.

XP everyone gains 300 xp
Mack gains a hero point and a large lump on his head for recklessly and mostly successfully jumping into each of the combats and moving to help the rest of his group as the need arose.
Crosseye gains the hero point but gets to skip the lump on his head part.

"Crosseye, if we should find anything then it is the ogre. Momma bear is not going to look upon us as anything but a threat in her current state, and more so if her cubs are nearby. We have done the right thing here, but seeking them out? Better to be sure that the ogre is not doubling back once he (was it a he?) stops and recovers his breath. He certainly leaves no shortage of trail.
'Osul helps stow the ogre bounty into the space in the sacks doubling as saddle bags on Carver's back.
"...or we can just head back to the tree. That works too."

"Good call Cameron, this is certainly better gear than I thought they would have. And this symbol on the ogres and collars...haven't we seen this before on those goblins? We should bring this to the leaders at the tree. If someone is mustering these foul creatures into some sort of army then someone is going to have to take action before it is too late.

"Let's get back to the tree, inform the necessary parties, get sorted with gear and treasure, and prepare for looking into this threat. Anything else we need to do before we go? Seems like I'm always in too much of a hurry and forgetting things."

'Osul looks at Atlas as the recollection hits him. "Yes, the goblins we got the drop on had that mark also."

"Mack, nice tune! I wasn't ignoring you - I had the one cure today, and you had that as soon as you were hit." 'Osul gives Mack a quick exam {Heal Check - Assessment: 23} and advises him, "The healing from Cameron and I means you have no outward wounds to treat, and a good night's rest should see both you and Crosseye feeling back at your best.
