The Trade Delegation

DM Kathy
Monday August 17th, 2015 9:32:20 PM

Several weeks have passed since your battle with the shapeshifters of the House of Silver.

Winter has packed itself up and drifted sullenly northward, to be replaced by what passes for spring in Dirt City. The days are a little longer and a little warmer. Tufts of grass spring from stray patches of dirt. Overhead, birds twitter and sing, oblivious to the crime and squalor below them. At Marsh House, the deadly nightshade is in bloom, and the blackberry is throwing out new branches in an apparent attempt to strangle and eat the lilac.

Within a day of your battle, the Knives had already filled in the vertical shaft leading to the City Below, and issued a warning about "unauthorized access." Other than that, there has been no fallout from your fight, and indeed, nothing from the House of Silver at all. Which isn't necessarily reassuring.

For now, though, everyone's attention is elsewhere. Through the dogged efforts of the Dirt City Merchants' Guild, a trade delegation is coming to town--all the way from Asildur! They will meet with various merchant houses, tour the marketplaces, and assess whether Dirt City has become stable enough to support regular trade. There is excitement among the merchants of the city, leavened with a bit of unease, because nobody is sure how the major Houses are going to take this. So far, none of them have voiced actual objections, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're on board--or that they won't take drastic measures.

Still, the overall mood is optimistic as everyone awaits the arrival of the delegation.

Wil dreams of Gargul till his mother appears and stands within the darkness. She is dressed in a large black , hooded cloak. Her eyes flash red in the darkness. "You are an eye of Gargul, Wilford. You have been issued the Gray Lidless Eye and it has been magically applied to your clothing. You will possess the blood of your ancestors and drag their essence behind as a mist."
Wil attempted to speak but could not. He wanted to resist or refuse this assignment.
His mother then continued. "You may wonder why this happened but it was due to your handling of Alexander. You found that he wanted to once again control the essence of life. You allowed that and Alexander passed onto the Realm of Shadows.
Again Wil tried to reply but he suddenly work and sat up with a start.
He smelled of blood and found the Gray Lidless Eye stamped upon his clothing. He sighed and held his head within his hands.

Dušan began to feel restless. As interesting as the Marsh House is, he felt like his life was put into a holding pattern as the seasons change. "So how dose Boggs usually contact us?" His pacing brings him back to kitchen, opening and closing cupboards with more fervor than was entirely necessary, "And there's nothing to eat. Who's hungry? I feel like going out?"

In the intervening weeks between the business with Clover Way, a new presence had started to patrol Dirt City at night. A small oddly dressed humanoid known as the Wyrmling wandered around the city, striving to keep it safe.

Meanwhile back at the Marsh House, The rest of the party may have noticed Toston sleeping in later than usual.

Over the course of the weeks following the Clover Way assignment Lornak fills his time away from getting to know the group with further attempts at creating items in his little alchemist lab.

He attempts to craft a flask of acid and although the results are almost there, he is ultimately unsuccessful. "Not as easy as dyes..." He thinks to himself. "Perhaps with better tools and a little more practice I will be blessed with more success." Lornak keeps it in the back of his mind to invest some of the next assignments bounty in an Alchemist's Lab.

"If there is a next assignment." He says out loud as he heads for the kitchen. He realizes he has been overheard in his mutterings and quickly addresses the group in the Great Room "I say we venture out and scout the crowd greeting the delegation. If Boggs hasn't seen fit to inform us of any new murmurings, perhaps we can watch for potential intrigue ourselves."

Wil feels uncomfortable with his new position as a Eye of Gargul. His scent makes him uncomfortable and the view of others chills him. He really needs to get out of the Marsh house but a bit timid.
"What are they going to ask of me?" He wonders. "I have no idea how to be a cleric, let alone an Eye of Gargul."
"I really need to fight something or maybe get a drink," Wil offers as he stands around the others. A cool mist shadows his every move while he wears the dark cloak.

"Let's check out the trade delegation from Asildur, while we are out. It may not be a bad idea to scope them out. Maybe they will have interesting wares or someone like the House of Silver will try to bother them and we can give you that fight you want Wil." Toston says.

Hmerrin spends the first week hanging around Marsh House, but after that the lad gets seriously bored. He volunteers to accompany any and all leaving the house, no matter the errand.

In doing so, he also gets a slightly better internal map of Dirt City, and takes care to stick to areas he's already frequented.

By the second week, the lad is looking for work, and happens upon a job opportunity fixing tables at a nearby tavern. Even out of practice, the erstwhile carpenter is able to earn some coin.

[Carpentry Craft check 8 = 4 gp earned]

As the others speak of checking out the trade delegation, Hmerrin is ready to go.

Var (Tom I.) HP:26/27 AC: 16(T:13/FF:13) CMD:19

With finally a break in action, Var settles in at the Marsh House. He sets up an archery target and practices a bit with his bow, does a little weeding in the garden and generally tries to relax after such a taxing mission.

The excitement of sedentary life doesn't last however. As the weeks wear on, he finds himself staying out later and later at tavers, and taking walks through less scrupulous areas of town. He has to remind himself to stay out of trouble several times. He does manage to make a friend, however; a stray mutt that came by the Marsh House one night, that Var shared his leftovers with.

When the talk at the taverns turn to trade delegations, and the rest of the group expresses interest in getting out of the house and actually doing something, Var jumps at the idea. "If I stay here any longer I might start growing roots out of my arse."

The quiet weeks after the Clover Way case were an odd book end to the abrupt excitement before it. Alizar had just returned from target practice with his bow, something he has taken in the last few weeks after his shoddy performance in the previous fight, when he noticed the group leaving the house.

"I'll join you lot, would be good to get out into the streets again."

He fell into step beside Toston, who had been acting strange these past few weeks. On some of his late night reading binges, he could have sworn he noticed Toston slipping in and out of the house.

[OOC: I figured it was closer to 6 weeks, so that's how long you crafters had to do your thing.]

Your time has not, of course, been completely idle. There were your measurements and new clothes from Billy Brambleshire. You had equipment in need of cleaning and repair, plus arrows to be replaced and so on. You spent some time helping the newcomers get oriented to the house, the Crecent Moons Trading Company, and the city in general. And Boggs did have a few jobs for you here and there, but nothing worth noting [or worth experienc points].

But, after weeks of relative idleness, you are eager to see what changes this trade delegation will bring. So, on the day they are due to arrive, you head down to the docks.

A crowd of curious townsfolk is there ahead of you. Most look to be merchants of some kind of other, excited to see a glimpse of the delegation from Aisildur--but not so excited they neglect to keep a wary hand on their purses. Pickpockets are doubtless circulating through the crowd as well.

The ship is already approaching the dock, the sailors on board exchanging cheerfully bawdy insults with the longshoremen waiting to tie it up.

"Finally!" one of the merchants exclaims. He is a human man, but so short and stout he really ought to be an honorary halfling. "At last we'll get some real trade in this town."

"I'm not so sure." This from a human woman, who seems to have permanent worry lines etched in her face. "I mean, Aisildur? Ga'al worshipers? How is dealing with them going to make our lot better?"

"If they're coin is good, that's all I care about," the stout man replies.

"I wonder if any of them are heartseeded?" a graying half-orc asks.

"I heard they all were," says a voice from somewhere beyond him.

"I heard the Houses are going to try to stop this," the worried-looking woman says.

The stout man snorts. "And I heard that Valdor Dragonstone drove through town last week in a shiny chariot. You shouldn't believe everything you hear."

The ship bumps the pier. Ropes are tossed and tied off, and there's more shouting, and of course, cursing. A gangplank is lowered, and in a few moments, you get your first glimpse of the delegation.

There seem to be five of them, three men and two women. One of the women does appear to be heartseeded, her robe open to show the healthy growth twining across her chest and over her shoulders.

"Brazen hussy!" somebody gasps.

"Naw," says the half-orc, sounding a bit disappointed. "Naw, you can't see nothin'. That weird plant thing's as good as a shirt."

The delegation pause on the dock, looking about them. A group of merchants, obviously dressed in their finest clothes and looking a bit stiff, approach. There are introductions, handshakes, and bows, and then the whole group moves off toward the Prince's castle.

Coming up with nothing he looks at the others and asks "Hey, any of you know what a Heartseeded is? I can't remember hearing of them before."

OOC: here are the rest of my crafting rolls so far I have not broken any of my materials. Woot!

"This is not fun at all," Wil thinks out loud and drinks from a mug of ale. He watches the delegation, bitterness building up.
"Wil?" Lucy begins.
"Lucy, how are you? I haven't heard from you in a while."
"I'm fine, Wil. I am a wandering soul. Can you help me pass through to the Realm of Shadows?"
"I don't know Lucy but apparently I helped Alexander... who technically stole my body. What do you need?"

He also observes the strange folk and studies their mannerisms trying to get a feel for them, but the intervening crowd prevents him from getting a good read. Lornak pulls his hood up over his head to shield his eyes. As he does so he blends into the crowd.(Stealth d20=11) He keeps his awareness up. For a crowd this large there are bound to be a few miscreants. (Perception d20=23)
Without drawing attention to himself he watches as the delegation comes to shore and meets the representatives of Dirt City's illustrious merchant class. Keeping a tally on his comrades, Lornak observes the stiff looking merchants greet the delegation and tries to ascertain any if any of them are of note in the merchants community. (Knowledge(Local) d20=9). He sees no heavy hitters and figures this is just a group of errand boys. "The real action will take place in the Palace." he thinks to himself. "We should follow." Lornak moves inconspicuously at the edge of the crowd that follows the delegation.

He turns to Lornak. "Do you think we have time change? Billy's gift might be more appropriate if we're going to the palace."

At Lornak's suggestion, the brown-haired lad gamely falls in with everyone else following the delegation.

Overhearing Dusan, he shakes his head. "Pretty sure they ain't letting us, or any of these other plain folk, inside the castle, no matter what we're wearin".

Only a few weeks into his stay at Dirt City, Hmerrin has learned quickly the need to keep an eye out for pickpockets and/or any other dangerous-looking fellows. He scans the nearby crowds every so often for folk with dishonest intent.

Alizar tried to remember what he could about the Empire of Aisildur and the Heartseeded, and relayed this info to the others.

DM Kathy
Wednesday August 19th, 2015 11:24:49 PM

You put your heads together to figure out what you know about Aisildur, Ga'al, and heartseeding.

Aisildur is located on the south part of the Elennian Peninsula, west of Izen (Izen is where Dirt City is). It is a theocracy, where Ga'al is the only acceptable god to worship. What this means in practical terms is unclear. Some say that conditions there are harsh and rigid, and dissent is not tolerated. Others say that really only government officials care much about Ga'al worship; everybody else pretty much gets on with their lives. [OOC: Aisildur's Woldipedia page is a mess; this is the best I can come up with.]

You know that Ga'al is one of the Gods of Testing. He is the god of Domination, opposing Domi who is the god of Strength. Worshippers of Ga'al feel that the Noble Races are too flawed to be allowed to make their own decisions, and that they should submit and obey Ga'al rather than deciding things for themselves.

Heartseeding is the ultimate expression of this idea. Ga'al worshippers who voluntarily accept a heartseed surrender their wills entirely through Ga'al. The god communicates his will to them through the heartseed plant, and they are happy to comply with his wishes. Nobody is really sure of the specific details; the ritual is secret and the heartseeded to not discuss it.

As you move away from the docks, you scan the crowd for pickpockets, and spot a few. You also scan for signs of trouble from the Knives or any of the other Houses and see none.

You're in a bit of a parade--the trade delegation, attended by their escort, trailed by the curiosity-seekers and you. Somewhat to your surprise, the parade moves past the Castle and heads to the Full Moon Market.

The Market is in full swing. The square is crowded with vendors, hawking their wares from booths, wagons, carts, tables, and even cloths spread on the ground. The Aisildurans look interested, and you can see their Dirt City guides pointing and describing the various features of the market square.

Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:17/17; AC:18; Touch: 18 : FF:14; CMD:16] - CMTC  d20+11=14 ; d20+11=26 ; d20+7=25 ;

Toston upon remembering the fact that Ga'al is diametrically in opposition to Domi shivers a little. Toston always strove to be like Domi and Alemi. Part of why he became a monk was his reverence for Domi and that only grew with his martial training. Being a gold dragon blooded sorcerer also made him feel a kindred with Alemi.

Toston could not imagine being heart seeded and is even more leery of the delegate bearing the seed. He wishes he could cast detect evil or detect thoughts as he is wondering what is going on in her head and if this delegation is some sort of ploy to somehow win Ga'al more followers. If things in dirt city got bad enough would people turn to heart seeding to not have to deal with it?

Toston shares what he remembered of Ga'al with the rest of the group and then attempts to move closer to the Full Moon Market and the delegation.

Like Lornak Toston tries to blend into the crowd (Stealth: 14), he keeps an eye out for trouble and on the delegation (Perception: 26) and if he gets close enough he tries to sense the motives of the delegation(Sense Motive: 25).

(OOC: i actually realized the perception got my skill point increase from leveling not WLA...that went to stealth so I did not apply it to stealth)

As the six of them discuss Ga'al and heartseeding, Var begins to feel slightly embarrased and awkward about his comments regarding the Aisildurian woman. He clears his throat uncomfortably and avoids eye contact with the others for a few minutes as they follow the delegation.

(OoC: request for clarification - did I not see any Knives, or did I not see any Knives causing trouble?)

"I'm surprised it took so much work to get them to send thier merchants, seems like trade would be welcome here in Dirt City, and I didn't know the Houses had such strict morals that they'd be opposed to doing buisness with Ga'al worshopers. Or was it the other way around, that they Aisildurians weren't interested in Dirt City?" Var muses as they make thier way into the Full Moon Market.

Var keeps watching the crowd for trouble, and looks to see if there's a representative of the CMTC around (perception: 23). He also watches the trade deligation carefully, the new knowledge of the heartseeds resting uneasily in his mind (sense motive: 17)

You watch the delegation as they tour the Full Moon Market.

Var does not see any Knives. They are probably nearby in case of trouble, but he does not see any at the moment.

Dušan tries to get close enough to the delegates to cast a detection spell, and Toston tries to get close enough to get a sense of what they are planning.

This proves to be difficult in the crowded marketplace, however. There is a lot of foot traffic, everyone is excited, and not everyone is watching where they are going.

A sharp cry is your first clue that there is something amiss. It is followed by a scream and a general scramble. You see that one of the delegates, a thin man with stringy blond hair, has fallen to the cobbles and appears to be struggling to breathe. Another man is clearly wounded, an arrow sticking out of his thigh. He is looking frantically around him, as if trying to find where the shot came from. The heartseeded woman dodges gracefully out of the way as a dart flies toward her; it clatters harmlessly to the ground.

All around, chaos erupts. Merchants and shoppers alike scream and run--but they don't know where the danger is, so they don't know where to run to. The marketplace is a sea of churning movement. Stalls are toppled, carts and wagons knocked askew. It is pandemonium.

From out of the crowd, two figures emerge....

"By the great bearded neck of Castrelion, here we go again..."
Alizar looked to his companions as the chaos erupted. There were wounded people who needed his help, regardless of who they were or where they came from, but out in the open like this, it would be hard to help without being detects. He shot a glance at his companions that read, "Watch my back", and he began to try to move through the crowd to try and get close enough to throw some healing if he could do do unnoticed.

The human is not laughing now as he raises his hands and casts a Wind Wall spell that springs between the delegation and the crowd. He then casts a quickened Wind Wall that bisects the first at a 60 Degree angle. And THEN, heroically, a THIRD Wind Wall puts the delegation in a triangle of defensibility from missle weapons!

"BeeBee, I'll handle the delegation! You crowd control and get someone to find and take out those Assassins!"

The other figure lowers his hood to reveal a shock of bright orange hair. He's a middle-aged gnome, whose outfit is covered in dozens upon dozens of pockets.

"Calm down! Calm down I say!" he speaks in a loud, booming voice completely disproportionate to his small stature. He points to the party "Jass and I can take care of things here. Find the assassins!"

Standing back-to-back with Jass, it is clear the pair are used to handling trouble.

"Clear the streets! Clear the streets! You there, lad, move it! You too miss. Yes, clear the streets!"

Lornak's heart fills with excitement as his senses quickly tell him that the commotion is more than just an argument. He centers himself as the crowd becomes chaos.

Two newcomers burst suddenly on the scene and protect the delegates. Their actions do not seem malicious and Lornak wonders if they are more of Bogg's men, or perhaps another outfit like the Crescent Moon Trading Company. "Let them protect tend the crowd." He thinks to himself.
All business, Lornak takes the opportunity to hunt some prey.

Lornak quickly slinks away from the pandemonium and puts his back to nearest merchant stall. As he puts his hand on the hilt of his dagger in preparation he does not draw because he does not want to be confused as an assailant. His eyes dart around the scene scanning the area. Lornak tries to ascertain where the bolt was fired from, and from whom. (Perception=20) Lornak then attempts to conceal himself(Stealth=8) but with all the tumult it is difficult.

Otherwise If he spots them but they are outside of a range of a charge but are within 130 ft of his position he uses his racial spell like ability dancing lights to create 4 glowing spheres of light that look like will-o-wisps encircling the assailants in a 10 foot radius circle with each light at a cardinal point. Disgust boiled inside Lornak. His steeled composure waned as he caught sight of the assassins rushing from the scene. In an instant Lornak is torn between his duty to protect the citizens of Dirt City and his venomous hatred for assassins. His mind does not want to abandon the delegates or his compatriots but his heart screams against these reprehensible men. Against his better judgement, Lornak succumbs to his emotions and gives chase.

As Lornak rushes passed screaming patrons and fallen carts, his mind takes snapshots of the civilian faces. Interspersed between them Lornak sees flashes of his brother's. Lornak thinks to himself. "No singular act can cause more misery..." Lornak picks up his pace with indignation.

As Lornak travels through the crowd he does his best to dodge the chaos while keeping pace with the assassins(Acrobatics=11). As he comes within range he enters the battle(5 foot step) Taking position against a merchant stall. As his shoulder finds purchase, he brandishes his crossbow(Attack action) and loads his crossbow(Move action).

You reach the alley. Wilford positions himself. Lornak loads his crossbow. Toston casts a defensive spell. Alizar readies his weapon. Var fires. It's an outstanding shot, and the thug staggers and grunts with pain.

Hmerrin, also readying weapons, asks if the men want to do this the easy way or the hard way.

"Oh, the hard way," says the man in the middle with a nasty smile. "Definitely the hard way. Iago, Dovan---get them!"

The two others oblige by flanking Toston (which they can do without provoking an Attack of Opportunity, so they do). Even with the advantage of a flank, however, they are unable to hit the nimble monk.

The other man, the one giving the orders, steps over until he has a clear shot at Var. He throws a dart, which hits! Var takes 2 points of damage, and feels some kind of poison seeping into the wound! Var, make a Fortitude save, DC 14, or take a point of Constitution damage.

Hmerrin steps up and swings his axe, but does not connect.

Talanthrel moves up, drawing his blade, and has technical difficulties with the Universe. He asks his DM to roll for him, which turns out to be a tactical error. [Natural 1! Sorry!]

Toston has his own troubles with the Universe, and quickly steps out of flank.

Alizar looses a sleep arrow, but it skips off the thug's leather armor.

Wilford decides things aren't interesting enough and casts an Obscuring Mist. The entire area is covered in thick fog, making visibility impossible beyond 5 feet. Wilford slips through the fog like one of those ghosts he's always talking to. [OOC: Casting a spell is a standard action. You can cast and move, but you'll need to wait until next round to attack.]

The thug called Iago, and the leader, are both outside of the mist. They see Wilford, and decide he's as good a target as any. They step to flank him (which they can do without provoking), and attack! Both miss, so we see that I'm not just rolling badly for PCs.

Wilford elects to use his crossbow, which provokes an Attack of Opportunity. Luckily, your DM is still rolling badly.

Dušan is unable to see a way out of the mist, so he shifts tactics and casts a spell on Talanthrel.

Var fires a shot, but he's at an awkward angle to avoid hitting his companion and the shot flies wide.

Toston moves out of the mist and concentrates on defense, while uttering the ancient gnomish war cry: Nyah Nyah Nyah!

Talanthrel sneaks through the mist to attack the thug still inside it. His blow hits the thug's flat-footed AC, and does damage. [OOC: I made your miss chance roll for you' please remember to roll for miss chance when you're in the mist.]

Iago and the leader once again move to surround Wilford (5-foot steps; no Attack of Opportunity.) Iago strikes with his short sword and star knife, hitting both times! Wilford takes a total of 22 damage, which by my calculations puts him unconscious.

Seeing that, the leader turns, pulls out another dart, and throws it at Hmerrin. It falls short.

The other thug, Dovan, ignores the ancient gnomish chant and attacks the guy who just swung a sword at him. Sword and knife both miss.

And your map. If you're inside the mist, you need to roll a miss chance, even if you are standing right next to your target. If you are not inside the mist, you don't need to roll a miss chance.

"Bloody mist..." Alizar cursed to himself. He could hear the action, but he could not see it, though there were no immediate cries for help. He sidestepped to the right, drew a new arrow from his quiver, and saw the vague outline of what looked like one of the assassins in front of him. He drew back his bow and fired, but what looked like it would have been a decent shot was hampered by the effects o th mist, and the arrow disappeared, far from it's mark.

Talanthrel begins the process of searching the assassins. On the leader, you find two tanglefoot bags, masterwork studded leather armor, two darts treated with some kind of poison, a masterwork sap, a masterwork dagger, and 6 regular daggers. On the thug, you find +1 studded leather armor, a masterwork short sword, and 4 starknives.

Wilford gets to his feet, somewhat surprised, perhaps, to find the battle over.

Dušan hits the fleeing thug with a simple cantrip that makes him stop in his tracks.

Toston plans a clever ruse, but in the end it is unnecessary. Dušan's cantrip is good enough that Var's arrow finds the thug easily. He drops to the cobbles.

If you search him, you find that he also has +1 studded leather armor, a masterwork short sword, and 4 starknives.

Var quickly strips the thug of his valuables, collects Hmerrin and Toston so they can head back to meet up with the rest of the group. Seeing that Will is up and moving on his own helps Var feel better about running off after the assassin.

It doesn't take long for the group to be reunited once more. Dušan is able to determine that the poison is Blue Whinnis, which causes unconsciousness. Wilford reflects on the unpredictable nature of spellcasting.

At least one of the would-be assassins is still alive, but the Knives will be here at any moment. The assassination attempt was very public; the Knives are probably all over the place at this point. Pausing to question the man is not a good idea.

The gnome stands having cured what damage he could from the injured man "This one will be fine. The other has passed" he nods in the direction of the lifeless delegate "Dreadful business, assassins. Did you know that nearly three-quarters of assassinations occur in public places?"

Jass of Downs (SteveK)
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 5:50:08 AM

The emaciated man is also standing, the Wind Walls having dissappated, he seems to be conversing with a small ball on his palm that soon winks out. "I have my Prying Eyes keeping a lookout, BeeBee, and it appears our energetic hero friends are returning. Nothing else to report but a whole bunch of scared and suspicious citizenry."

He turns to look across the way at the heroes. "Hey, what's the word? I'm Jass, by the way, Jass of Downs!" His smile looks like he is about to share a favorite riddle.

Lornak HP:24/24 AC: 16(T:13/FF:10) CMD:17
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 8:51:58 AM

"Despicable practice." Lornak says to BeeBee as he slowly walks up toward where the violence took place. He looks at Jass with fire in his eyes. "However, this time their agency has claimed their lives." Lornak surveys the scene and notices the stragglers from the large crowd lingering about. He can ascertain how well the pair have protected the delegates and the public. "Your trade seems far more noble." Lornak pauses slightly at his feelings of shame, bows deeply, flourishes his hand in a gesture of greeting and says. "I thank thee for your intercession. I am Lornak of House Kaifah. How may I be of service?"

Var (Tom I.) HP:25/27 AC: 16(T:13/FF:13) CMD:19
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 3:10:30 PM

"I'm Var, of... no place in particular." the half-orc says with a puzzled look. "So, do you guys work for the trade delegation, then?"

Dušan (Erik) [HP:18/18; AC:12; Touch: 12(14); FF:10; CMD:13]
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 6:02:22 PM

"I'm Dušan..." a human of slightly under average height with long auburn hair dressed in traveling clothes of blacks and browns peers at Jass, "I'm sorry, but do I know you? I'm sure I've seen you before; a tavern maybe?"

Alizar HP:14/14 AC: 15(T:12/FF:13) CMD:13
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 6:32:09 PM

Alizar surveys the injured delegate. "I am glad to hear he will live, though, it is unfortunate his companion was not as lucky", Alizar said with a frown. "My name is Alizar" He bowed his head slightly at the pair, but then snap his head up suddenly when the thought crossed his mind.
"What of the Heartseeded? What happened to her?"

Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP:17/17; AC:18; Touch: 18 : FF:14; CMD:17] - CMTC
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 6:56:19 PM

A small hooded cloaked figure wearing dark colors walks up to the gnome and the man. Peeking out from under the hood you see an orange gnome face with close cropped green hair and violet eyes. Toston surveys the other gnome and the human and says, "My name is Toston Lotor, formerly of the Scab, Plateau City and the Hand of Domi. I am a monk and sorcerer and do what I can to help the common folk of Dirt City."

To BeeBee, Toston says, "I like all those pockets you have in your outfit. I have a vest that has a bunch of pockets like that."

"We chased a group of some of the assassins down. Two of them perished but the last survived. Unfortunately a Knife Patrol was coming in fast, so we couldn't ask the remaining assassin more about the conspiracy."

Wilford Grimly (HP:15/21; AC: 14; Touch: 12; Flat: 12; CMD: 14)
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 7:49:33 PM

Wil steps up the the two strangers and introduces himself. Wil smells of blood and death. He stands six-foot tall within a thick black-hooded cloak. The Eye of Gargul sewed upon the chest of the cloak and on each arm. A thick mist wafts upward from the back of the cloak.
"Nice to meet such brave men," He says, his face hidden within the hood of the cloak.

Jass of Downs (SteveK)
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 8:11:27 PM

"I know you, I've walked with you once upon a dream", Jass sing-songs with a smile. "I've always found dreams about taverns to be very accurate, Young Dusan." He continues with a wink.

"But that's neither here nor there. Give me a sec and we can talk for real, eh?"

Jass raises his hands and weaves a complicated spell, creating a Private Sanctum right in the street.

"OK, BeeBee, you are up."

Hmerrin(HP 20/20 AC20/14t/16ff, CMD 18)
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 9:14:57 PM

A lanky, teenaged human with flowing brown waves.
"I'm Hmerrin," he says. "Nice spells."

Talanthrel (Paul) [HP 26/26; AC 20; Touch 14; Flat 16; Cmd17]  d20+9=29 ;
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 10:17:55 PM

A tall dark haired Half-elf nods at the two from the back of the party.

Talanthrel watches the area warily, he barely stops himself from face palming in exasperation at Toston's introduction. For a group that is supposed to be working from the shadows, we sure lack a lot of subtlety he thinks to himself.

Ballatime "BeeBee" Brooks (RobC)
Thursday September 3rd, 2015 11:19:25 PM

With Jass' privacy spell up, BeeBee responds to each of the party in turn.

First to Lornak. "Despicable, yes, and shows a lack of honour. Although I must admit, many a war has been prevented simply by assassinating the right person. But where are my manners" BeeBee returns the bow and flourish in kind "Ballatime Brooks, but feel free call me BeeBee. Did you know that only 5% of people in the Wold have the same initial for their given name as their surname?"

"'Var of no place in particular'. I like that. No, we are not of the trade delegation" BeeBee shows a hint of a smile, and looks to Jass "We are of the Dragon Consortium. Did you know that the consortium dates back to the 4th Cateclysm?"

BeeBee does not say anything to Dusan, but smiles and nods knowingly. Dreams are indeed powerful tools.

"Alizar. Ah, yes, the heartseeded. You may try wasting your breath speaking to that one. She claims Ga'al helped save her. In my experience, the heartseeded aren't to be trusted. Although that's not entirely true. Did you know that there was once a good heartseed?"

"Well met, Toston Lotor. One can never have too many pockets. Of the Scab you say? Have you ever been to the Stone Festival? A truly humble fair where all good folk are welcome. Do you know it is said a prayer to the Fhorge is said to grant safe passage in the Scab?"

"I would recognise Gargul's eye anywhere" BeeBee says, looking Wilford up and down. BeeBee takes a few moments to actually look Wilford over before his smile starts to fade and his voice lowers "You have the smell of death upon you. Not all who die go to the Lands of Rest. Do you know very few have been to Koshe Marr and survived?"

"Spells are but the tools of men who lack the muscle to properly swing a sword about" BeeBee responds to Hmerrin with a renewed smile "The last time I tried swinging a sword, well, let's just say I only barely managed to get the thing off the ground. And don't you say anything, Jass, I've seen you try to swing your fists about at time. Did you know that the mass of a sword is directly proportial to the damage it can do?"

To Talanthrel, BeeBee gives a short and simple bow.

"Well, then. Pleasantries aside. We only happened to be in the area looking up an old friend when we saw what was happening. Unfortunately a little late for that fellow. Curiously, I found this laid atop his body" BeeBee holds out a black and purple glove "Yes, I think deliberately placed. Highly unlikely that is simply fell and landed atop him."
