Peza continues to lead the way further and further away from the strange anemone, leading you through a great variety of underwater scenery. You would never have guessed the variety of plants and animals that lay below the Floating City, nor could you have expected the ever changing landscape of the deep. Yet as you the path of destruction you move through a grove of some strange flowering weed like bushes and emerge at a great drop off whose vast dark expanse into nothingness seems to have no end. It is almost as if the chilly depths are calling out to you. Beckoning you to be the first land dwellers to break the utter silence of these tomb-like depths and explore its secrets.
At first glance there is not sign of your quarry. Below you the chasm fades into darkness and the distance appears an unending expanse of green nothingness.

Cries of excitement are uttered as you swim after them... ... them... ... The realization that there is only one shadow ahead of you starts to sink in. Where are all the other turtles? Could the be further ahead and out of view? Or perhaps they dove too deep to be seen in the darkness? Unfortunately, before you can ponder these another thought burrows its way into your mind, the creature coming into view is growing too fast. The shell looks to be 20ft across and its long neck and arms put it between 32 and 40 feet if fully stretched out. If you had to describe it you would probably call it a dragon turtle.
The creature looks hideous, yet what concerns you is the way it is turning towards you and swimming faster than any thing that size has a right to travel. At that speed it will be on you in two rounds.
Emrys can't see a thing. Being back in the wash of Brom's path is a torrent undercurrent of frothy chaos. Even the ride is not very smooth ...being jerked left and right with sudden stops and starts! He now knows what it's like to be a fish on the hook.

It wasn't just a turtle, and it looked dragon-like. This would be his first real battle of this kind and it made Brom's blood rush with excitement.

As you make preparations the turtle cuts through the water and in seconds is standing before you. Its armor like shell displaying carapaces of a deep green-blue color with silver highlights across the rocky ridges. The coloration of the head, tail, and legs is slightly paler than the shell and contains golden streaks along the crest and spines. Surely this is the beast all sailors tells tales of seeing.
As it charges forward the beast opens its mouth and bares its teeth. Its long tale slicing back and forth through the water and its spine covered fins with deadly speed. Yet today the gods are on you side, for as it thrusts forth its gaping maw and tries to close its razor like teeth around Brom it comes up short and somehow misses the Barbarian.

Emrys take the piece of horn. He tries to cast a spell using it as a focus, but the spell simply doesn't happen and he backs away from the combat.
Brom takes his turn and attacks the dragon with no success.
Edson is annoyed with his weapons so he decides to improve himself. He swims up and over the turtle.
Peza swima a few feet to the turtle's side and again assaults the turtle from above, the second strike. (The second roll was a natural 20 and hit, I rolled 7dmg for you)
Evaris thrashes around some more and this time manages to dog-paddle a little closer to the barbarian before casting Cure Critical Wounds.
Lanliss swims North and begins to attack, finding a soft spot between the turtle's shell and its flesh.
Emrys' finds his spell fails, but holds onto the horn realizing it might be useful once he learns the art of tinkering (lvl 7 witch ability). The turtles eyes begin to change color again, but as up comers from the float begin to spread out, the monstrous thing appears to change its mind and chomps down on Brom once again followed by another fin to the head. However, as he braces for the third blow it never come. Perhaps it noticed Brom's flesh had hardened or perhaps it wants to share the pain with all all who inflicted it on him, but for his third attack he turns and strikes Laliss. (Brom takes 10dmg with an additional 20 absorbed by his protective spells) (Lanliss takes 19dmg)

The cavern is not small, that's a fact due to the size of the Dragon turtle. With the corpse a distance off and deeper into the trench. It might be awkward but maybe taking a rest here would be same enough. Some of the group can swim, the others are just plain terrible at it. Emrys takes some time and examines both the ring and the turtle. He come to the conclusion about both.... The ring looks similar to a ring of waterwalking, The turtle figurine, seems to become a conveyance, like a swan boat, only larger.

The salvaged items from the Dragon Turtles horde is discussed, but it has yet to be decided who carries what, other than the armor. Evaris does some healing while Lanliss looks over the coins. Emrys, describes the mystery items to everyone. As well as mentioning a better investigation of the dragon turtles corpse.
One thing Emrys suddenly recalls, *Whomever picks up a Fate item, is linked to it until either he or she dies or the item is destroyed.* With that revelation, it becomes obvious that some decisions need to be made right away, while the rest can be freely carried by anyone. It is now obvious that the blood in the water is calling the predators to the trench into which the corpse fell when it died. The through search of the cavern in which the turtle laired shows that there is a pocket of air at the roof, but there is no other exits from the place.

It's not a physical thing and it's not really a mental thing. It's like an addition of an extra light to make a more defined shadow. There is still the ring to be decided on laying adjacent to the pile of treasure. With everyone looking around, Lanliss realizes that the group is close to 100 feet below the surface and the cavern's top is only about 30 feet high. That makes the thickness of the cavern roof 25 or 30 feet, because he thinks the water looked like is was about 30 feet deep as they were swimming down to the opening. OOC: You are right, I had a brainfart when I set the DC, should have been a 8, completely average with the day you've had.
IC:
Emrys brings it to everyone attention, that it is night time above the water. With it dark up above it's now pitch black here at the bottom of the lake. And also mentions that they should wait until morning after the rest discuss going to the surface and searching. Emrys also says that the pearls should last the week, that's what they were told earlier. It was also brought up about turtle thieves and where they might find them, above the water or below the surface of the lake. ________________________________________________________________________
With it being night time, the group needs to find a camp site. Going back to the city would mean traveling a distance, even without having to search for and follow a trail. Not to mention finding their way back to this general area in the day light, so they can search for the turtle trail they were following before they crossed over on to the Dragon Turtle's trail. They could head to the surface and see if there is any land close by, to go set up a camp. Also an option would be here in the lair of the dragon turtle. The top 5 or 6 feet of the turtle's cavern has an air pocket, but they'd need something to sleep on to be dry, and make it easier to eat. Time for a decision......

"As for how will they thieves escape with the turtles ... Brom is right if they leave by the surface they will leave tracks ... so the other option is an underwater route .... tunnel or cave system .... but how do we learn or find out about those ?"

Peza agrees that staying here might be best, but still wonders about finding the thieves. Brom wants to find a camp somewhere. Edson says most anything is better than a wet dirty alley.
As the group gets ready to leave the cavern, someone mentions the Turtle Boat and that it's large. With the pearls and the turtle boat, it'd be possible to camp in the air pocket above the cavern, but it is still a decision that needs to be made by Evaris as it's his token.
If it's decided to look for land, when you surface outside the cavern, at the top of the lake, it's a crystal clear night, and there is no land in any sight in any direction. You think you are about half way between the edge of the lake towards the forest and Float City.

How to Camp at the Bottom of the Lake Wednesday September 16th, 2015 3:47:08 PM
The turtle boat is enlarged and the boat is truly shaped like one of Float City's turtles, it even has a platform on it's back which is where passengers are to ride. The group sets up a small camp site on the boat and it's decided a cold camp would be best, a boat plus fire might be bad. A easy watch is set, mostly to be sure that nothing comes up from below. It seems, even with the Dragon Turtle dead, the other predators in the area are loath to come near the cavern, apparently he'd eaten a large number of them. And the the old adage, "a burnt hand teaches best" hold true for the lake dwellers in the area as well, "Come to close, get eaten." Eventually time passes and during the final watch, the person on watch notices light starting to glow up from below. Not like a torch, more like a huge swelling of light, but only from one side of the boat. About 10 hours has passed from when you expanded the boat. It must be breakfast time.

With food served, the question is asked if anyone can ask any of the denizens of the deep water if they know anything.
When everyone is ready, the boat is reduced back to it's token size and swimming is begun again. Once outside the turtle's cavern, it is much brighter, not like a clear day, more like dusk. The battle site unfolds below the group as they swim around. The ledge where the turtle's corpse dropped over is not too far off and the skid mark shows exactly where it hit the lake's floor and then skidded off to deeper water. With the height of the cliff wall discussed and it figured out how it's so tall when the group thought they were only half as deep as it is tall. The group discusses what to do next, and it's decided to search for caverns and tunnels in the deep shadows along the cliff and at it's base.
_________________________________________________________ Spending the time, the group finds 4 different caves or tunnel entrances. One is on the floor 60 feet from the base of the cliff. It is 30 feet across and goes deeper disappearing in to darkness. One of the other three, averages about 10 feet across and enters the cliff face about midway up the wall. (100' up) The second entrance is 50' across and enters the cliff 25 feet from the base of the cliff, slightly angles downward then levels off as it disappears into the darkness. The final cave enters the cliff as its floor level, the opening is 20 or so feet across. Upon entering the wall, it opens up quickly to a internal cavern 100 feet across, 40' tall and has an air pocket at it's top.

On the trail again...... Wednesday September 23rd, 2015 12:39:03 PM
The various tunnel/cavern entrances are found and discussed. Finally Brom suggests checking out the one that is similar to the Dragon Turtles lair. The group enters, since it is at the bottom of the cliff, there is a lot of silt built up on it's floor, where its drifted down from way above and settled to the floor. It is a huge somewhat roundish domed cavern. The Air pocket begins about 10 feet above the cavern mouth. When the group surfaces, the air is quite stale, old seeming even. The ceiling of the cavern is solid rock, but there are sections of it that sparkle and reflect the light causing small rainbows in the ripples of the waters surface. After searching the cavern carefully you decide that there is no exit other than the one you came in. That leaves three other entrances in the cliff wall or at least near by it. You also remember the Turtle Master said one adult and a few young turtles were the ones taken, that would probably take that small cave off the list. Decisions, decisions, the tunnel that angles down from the wall, or the "well" like entrance at on the floor of the lake that seems to go even deeper beneath the surface....
