[DM Hugh] - The Meaning of Dreams Monday October 19th, 2015 11:35:07 PM Zeoll explains his reasoning behind his idea that no one should hang.
Magana thinks Master Roberts should based on what they learned, but she can't see that there is any other evidence to be had.
Hashamon says that they cannot be sure, so no man should hang it is.
Rillet agrees with Zeoll's answer, but suggests a change in the phrasing.
Ecth suggests a further refinement.
Jozhur decides to try one last thing and attempts to bluff William Roberts. "Lord Fredericks said you left his company at about midnight. Two people have told us they had seen you walking towards Lord Greyson's property a short time later. You are awful quick to blame this on your adopted son, who would have no real reason to kill Lord Greyson. You, on the other hand, would have plenty to gain from Greyson's death. It's painfully obvious that YOU are responsible for this. If you confess now, maybe Pantheon will have some mercy on you."
To which Master Roberts replies in the same manner in which he has replied several times before, “Are you accusing me? HOW DARE YOU! You, you, filthy street scum! You just consider yourself lucky I don’t have my sword with me or I’d have you cut from navel to nose!”
Zeoll gives the answer to Lord Greyson by the door of, "None of these three should face the gallows based on the evidence we have seen and heard."
There is a brief moment during which Aex hopes the party won't have to fight ghosts, Terser hopes Magana was not given some prophetic vision as he attempts to have faith in their answer, and Ecthelion shifts a little uncomfortable by Zeoll's staring at him.
Lord Greyson by the door smiles and says, "It is from material evidence that justice can be measured, not hearsay and gossip. You are just and worthy to proceed to the next chamber." before fading from view with the rest of the illusions.
There is a grinding sound and the doors at the end of the room slide open.
After the entirety of the party has passed through the doors, there is another grinding sound and they quickly close shut behind you.
The party enter a yuge chamber.
The domed ceiling peaks at maybe 100ft high. The circular chamber also approximately 100ft across. Square polished rocks pave the floor and walls, whilst bare exposed rock and stalactites cover the ceiling.
In the centre of the room surrounded by a shimmering wall, is a large circular stone basin filled with water. Hovering above the water floats a rock - about 1ft in length - completely covered in red sparks (OOC: similar to the effect of a sparkler).
On the opposite side of the room a massive hole can be seen, as if someone has tunneled into this chamber.
The floor is littered with dozens of humanoid corpses. 8 monsters - with bloodied claws - stand over them.
The monsters that are standing all look very different.
The first stands close to 10 feet tall. It’s head looks almost like an alligator though it’s body is humanoid. Some sort of green slime covers its body and drips to the floor. The next looks like a cross between a humanoid and a toad but with bat-like wings on its back and gnarled, blackened claws. Another looks like some insect hybrid, with five arms and three legs. It’s large eyes are black and with no pupils. The one to the north looks to be a translucent humanoid wrapped in a hooded funeral shroud. It hovers above the ground. Two hideous crones can be seen. One with pale green skin, wispy green hair and long sharp nails. The other has brownish-green flesh and pointed teeth. As if the menagerie couldn’t be weirder, the next is a gigantic toad with wings, fangs, horns and three eyes! Rounding out the bunch is the insubstantial form of a beautiful woman bathed in sickly green flames.
“Raaargh! More guardians to dispose of!” roars the tall slimy one “Kill them quickly and let us take the prize. I grow tired of this place”
The evil that radiates from them is almost overpowering. This must be Billoopl’s squad.

(Sorry! My post got eaten.)
Monday:
Before Zeoll gives his answer, Hashamon takes a moment to clear his head. He seeks greater wisdom from Ma'ab and Gargul before finally accepting Zeolls answer as his own as well. (Casts Owl's Wisdom, perception 23. Of course, this does not really matter much.)
Tuesday:
As the group makes their way into the tunnels, Hashamon roars at the vile minions of Billoopl. He holds his charge in check, conferring first with his allies.
"Some have wings, we must expect flight."
(Gonna delay this action a bit to see what the others do.)
(Brock) Jozhur AC23/16/17--CMD 24--HP73/73 d20+13=14 ; d20+12=13 ; Tuesday October 20th, 2015 12:47:43 PM What vile creatures. Not too long ago Jozhur would have fled or cowered in fear at such a sight. Now it's almost just another day...almost.
" I'm sure some of them can wield magic, we will probably want to move in. I'll hang back and wait for an opening to flank one of them."
Jozhur moves forward 25 feet and fires an arrow at the hooded figure, missing horribly. He looks for something to take cover or hide behind. He clicks his heels and pulls a potion (shield) from his bag. ----------------------------- Attack hits AC 14 (nat 1) Perception: 13 Boots of haste to retrieve potion. Boots used 1/10 rounds.
Zeoll makes a quick spatial judgment, then moves so that he and his friends and all the enemies are within 40 ft of Zeoll. As he leaps forward, the old liontaur draws his rod from the scabbard at his side.
He casts Extended Prayer: "You and each of your allies gain a +1 luck bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saves, and skill checks, while each of your foes takes a -1 penalty on such rolls."
"May the Fey Queen bless us in ourr strruggle against you, foul and currsed minions of the fetid water god Bubble-Poop!"
The spell has no save but DOES allow spell resistance. In case the enemies have spell resistance, Zeoll rolls for spell penetration: 8 foes so 8 rolls: 10, 7, 25, 10, 20, 17, 15, 10.
Zeoll tries to ID any characteristic, history, type, or power of these creatures. Know Nature and Know Planes (both at +8 with the Prayer) 28, 17, 15, 26, 9.
Zeoll keeps alert. Perception 34, 35, 33. ... and Sense Motive: 37, 27, 31
He especially tries to note which ones have weapons, spell pouches, and/or holy symbols.

Hashamon warns to look out for flyers.
Jozhur moves up and fires some arrows at the hooded monstrosity.
Zeoll leaps forward and casts prayer, affecting all of his friends but not all of his enemies. He cannot overcome the tall crocodile headed creature's spell resistance. Nor can he overcome the spell resistance of either crone. The winged humanoid toady looking thing is immune. The insect hybrid is affected by the prayer as is the cloaked being, the giant toad, and the green flaming woman.

Zeoll groans as he now sees that this is the fulfillment of his divinatory dream!
Reflex Save vs Acid DC23: Zeoll is at +9 with Prayer, rolls a 29, saves for half. 7damage.
Grapple attack inflicts 14 damage, total 21 to Zeoll.
Save vs Frogification Fort DC20. Zeoll has a +10 on the save with Prayer ...
NO WAIT. ... sigh. Zeoll already has a +1 luck bonus on saves from his Woldian Heirloom Item feat. The +1 on saves from the Prayer does not stack. Alas. The first save, vs the acid, was a nat 20, so no harm done. Against Frogification, he is only at +9.
Zeoll rolls vs Frogification: He rolls an 18. He uses a hero point retroactively for a +2, bringing his result up to 20, exactly what he needs. He is no Frog!
Now Zeoll is just grappled by a horrible bug. And grappled is a bad thing for a caster. To use a spell or a SLA, Zeoll has to roll 1d20+10 vs a DC 10+23+1 = 34. In other words, even on a nat 20, Zeoll cannot use his magic. To escape the grapple, he likely has to beat a probably DC33 CMD, and Zeoll's grapple check is a +3, so again, a nat 20 comes up 10 short. Zeoll could attack with a paw at +2, hope for a nat 20, and inflict 1d4+1 damage. Or he could hope for rescue and have a readied move to flee if he has the chance.
For now Zeoll uses the DELAY action, hoping that something else will happen to pull his bacon out of the fire. That is, Zeoll has not yet acted this round.

The ooze demon (1) steps up under the flying frog. A massive oozy appendage reaches out and slams into Terser. Acid burns Terser and his armor (I don’t have access to view Terser’s character sheet, so I’m not sure what he hit. Whatever is being worn in the chest spot needs a DC 23 reflex save or take 23 points of acid damage if it is wood, metal, or cloth) (Damage to Terser: 14 + 2 acid).
The medium flying creature (2) mumbles something and appears to cast a spell (Spellcraft 18: Highlight to display spoiler: {Magic Circle against Good}).
The giant insect, frustrated with the escape of Zeoll, reaches out to Terser (who is in range, so no AOO, sorry) and quickly grabs him up with the number of massive claws, slicing into him. Terser sees the sharp edges of the various legs and knows that he is in trouble (14 damage, grappled).
The shrouded creature (4) steps away from Magana, into the fog cloud, and completely disappears from sight. Magana, still partially in the fog, feels claws scape against her chainmail, but does not feel them penetrate.
The hag nymph (5) waves her hands and a lightning bolt flashes across the room, hitting Hashamon and Aex (38 damage, Reflex DC 18 for half).
The flying frog-creature (6) turns to the moving Ecthelion and its tongue spits out, slapping into Ecthelion and sticking fast (11 damage and grappled by tongue, pulled 5' towards the flying frog).
The other crone (7) points at Hashamon and gestures at him, casting a spell (Will save DC 21). Spellcraft DC 20 or Hashamon failed save: Highlight to display spoiler: {Dominate Person}).
The sticky green woman (8), still flying, moves a little to the north, out of the flank, and shoots another bolt, this time at her attacker, Jozhur. The bolt slams into Jozhur (29 damage) and green flames flicker around him (Will save DC 22 or engulfed in witchfire).

Hashamon senses the lightning bolt and he drops low, letting it pass over him completely. (Reflex 19, Evasion). Getting back to his feet, he feels a blast of magic crash about his psyche. Always the stubborn Taur, he continues that as a Human, and fights off the magic.
Hash steps southeast and tries his best to pummel the demon holding Terser, but only his first attack makes any impact.

Like the Fey did, Aex too evokes lightning on the Billoopl madness... Using Lightning Lord Domain Spell Aex is able to call down 9 bolts in total. She centres her spell on the Derghodaem and targets 5, 7, 3, 1 and 6 with 5 Bolts (4 bolts left)

Ecthelion cries out in pain as he wrestles against the tongue of the frog creature. Hoping to help his escape, he attempts to cast Grease (Concentration check: 26 - the DC = 11+the frog's CMB) If he is succesful, Ecthelion will cast Grease on himself to give himself an extra +10 next round to escape.
(Brock) Jozhur AC23/16/17--CMD 24--HP73/73 d20+7=15 ; Friday October 23rd, 2015 1:56:48 AM
Jozhur is pummeled by an awful ball of fire and finds himself glowing (will save failed). Now he's cut off from the others and cannot hide. He can't do any meaningful damage to the witchfire if he isn't flanking it. He's not one to run, but he sees it as his only option to stay in the fight. He backs away from the Witchfire and circles to his allies.

Terser and whatever he was wearing on his chest (OOC: I too don't have access to his sheet) take acid damage. He then finds himself caught in a grapple with the Derghodaemon. Terser fights back agains the Derghodaemon slamming it with his adamantine fists and hits with 2 of his fists though most of the damage is healed immediately.
Knowledge Planes DC 19 Highlight to display spoiler: {The Derghodeamon's DR can be overcome by silver or cold iron}
Zeoll becomes visible, takes a step back and then spontaneously casts Summon Fey Friend
Hashamon scores a critical hit against the Derghodaemon before giving some advice to Jozhur but he too notices that the Derghodaemon did not take the full brunt of his attack.
Aex being hit by lightning herself, decides to reciprocate in kind.
The Ooze demon(1) does not seem phased by the lightning that dances harmlessly over his oozy skin and into the ground.
The Derghodeamon(3) does not manage to avoid any of the lighting, but still some of the electricity dissipates before the monster is affected by the charge.
The Hag Nymph (5) manages to partially avoid the lightning, but from that she does take, she howls in pain.
The giant winged toad (6) also manages to partially avoid the lightning, but squeals in pain from the electricity.
The other crone (7) also partially avoids the electricity but also howls in pain from the lightning strike.
Ecth is not able to concentrate enough to overcome the distraction that is the giant monster's sticky tongue. His grease spell fizzles out.
Johzhur sickened by the glowing green flame he is covered in, withdraws to find a more favorable target to attack.
The intensity of the sparks grows to the point that the barrier surrounding it collapses! The magic force bursts across the room, sending everyone back towards their nearest wall. It also dissipates the fog cloud and breaks the grapples.
The burst of energy is enough to loosen some of the stalactites from the ceiling and they plummet to the floor like giant skewers. Where the stalactites have struck the floor, an orange glow can be seen. Lava. Beneath the very fragile and thin layer of stone at you feet, lava.
As if things weren’t dangerous enough, small drops of lava start to form where the stalactites were. The ceiling is starting to lose its structural integrity. It will be a matter of time before it collapses!

The burst surprises the enemies, but they keep their feet and prepare to counterattack.
The Ooze Demon (1), steps away from the wall and eyeballs the group across the room. It looks at its allies and points at the party.
The Tarry Demodand (2) finds itself on the wall next to Hashamon. It takes a small steps towards him and slashes with its black claws. The claws slice deeply into Hashamon’s body (20 damage) as the creature’s head bites into Hashamon’s shoulder (13 more damage).
The Derghodaemon (3), annoyed again at the withdrawl of a party member from its claws, moves towards the center of the room and towards the party, its many eyes watching the party members, as if selecting the next target for the many sharp legs.
The not undead shroud creature (4) turns its shrouded head to Magana and suddenly the area is filled with smoke and mist Spellcraft 28: Highlight to display spoiler: {Obscuring Mist} centered just to the right of Magana.
The Hag Nymph (5) casts a spell Spellcraft: 25: Highlight to display spoiler: {Fly} then takes to the air, moving towards the center of the room.
The giant winged toad (6) turns to its right and looks straight at Ecth again. A second time the massive tongue of the creature flies out and strikes Ecth (10 damage). The tongue sticks again and starts pulling Ecth towards the massive maw of the toad-creature.
The Baba Yaga (7) smiles and waves its arms above its head. A moment later giant massive hailstones pound the ground and heavy sleet and snow appear in the lava cavern! (Ice storm centered on the group in the upper right. 20’ radius on the lower right corner of Zeoll. That’s 8 damage each plus 3 cold damage (no save) for, well, everyone but Magana. For the next 10 rounds, that area has snow and ice, perception -4, difficult terrain).
The Witchfire (8) cackles as the snow and ice appear and it moves towards the center of the room as well.

Zeoll's concentration check for his spell - DC23, rolled a 20, lost!
Hashamon grows as the creature tears into his weak flesh. He pushes off the creatures and turns, hurrying for the stone. He feels Rillets channeling take some of the sting from the last bite, and is thankful.
"I'll get the stone! Someone else decide how were leaving!"
There was a time when a predator becomes prey. Fight gives way to flight. Self preservation had become the order of the day, though there was still an objective to complete. Bracing himself for the inevitable counter attack from the Tarry Demodad, Hash changes direction and rushes for the stone once more.
Ice falls and mist comes from the ground, and he loses sight of Magana and everyone else. Obscuring worked for them just as well, he supposed.
He grabs the stone and turns back north, hoping to see the door open back up.
If so, he will use a hero point to move 70 ft back towards the door. If not, he will move to about 15ft north of Magana.
Move: Eat AoO and move to stone. Standard: Grab Stone Hero: Move to door or Magana or some as yet posted option from team mates.

Terser takes Rillett's words to heart and moves himself alongside Hashamon to either assist him in moving the stone, or to defend him from anyone that would attack him.
results depend on weight of the stone and such. 2 AoO's available at 10' reach if he doesn't need to help moving the rock.

Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC25 HP 23 of 55) Friday October 23rd, 2015 5:08:30 PM
Zeoll sees that Hash is moving to get the THING. The old liontaur fears that Hash picking the THING up will open himself up to attack. [OOC: Picking up an item provokes AoOs.] That would be bad.
So Zeoll digs out his scroll of Silent Image and reads it. A small cloud of thick mist forms over the THING and five feet around it, NOT touching any enemy. So long as no one studies or interacts with the illusion, they do not get a save against it. And there is no spell resistance.
When Hash enters the cloud, he gets to make the DC11 Will save to see through the spell (recall Prayer gives a +1 on that save). Hopefully he will be able to pick up the THING. But no one else should see him do it, and he should provoke no AoOs as he does so. And if he stays in the cloud, he'll have total concealment -- and that means casters cannot target him specifically with spells, either.

Seeing the stone is suddenly no longer protected Aex decides it would be best to keep some of Billoopl's minions from reaching out for it...
First she quaffs the Cure Serious Wounds potion she holds in her hand (healing 21+9 total 30 points) getting the little Gnome back to full health.
Next she once again evokes the power of nature... this time it comes in the form of fire! A Wall of Fire appears surrounding 3, 1, 6 and 2. The heat blazes of the wall into the center of the fiery ring! There's no saving throw. Spell Resistance 25!
3, 1, 6 and 2 are all within 10 ft of the wall so all take 5HP 3, 6 and 2 are hit by the wall itself and each take 16HP Furthermore any fool trying to go through takes an additional 2d6+9 Wall radius 20ft, wall height 20 ft.
Terser and Rillet will see the wall appear right next to them... luckily the heat radiates only in one direction!
"There that should keep some away from the rock! Go get it and let's run!"
Furthermore Aex still has 4 bolts of Lightning available! She has those crashing down on the same 3, 1, 6 and 2
Jozhur has to save him, but cannot step up to shoot around Zeoll because of the ice. The only thing he can apparently attack at full effectiveness is the Derghodaemon. He fires three well aimed shots, hoping they penetrate its armored skin.

Rillet had previously healed the party prior to the energy burst and now finds himself running to Terser to bestow protection from energy on him.
Zeoll lost concentration on his spell due to the violent motion of the energy burst. However the liontaur sees Hashamon going for the stone so he takes out his scroll of silent image and wraps the stone in the image of a cloud.
Hashamon attempts to grab the stone, but as he gets close to it, sparks shoot out at him and he is knocked prone, but is otherwise unharmed by the force of the blast. He can feel the stone radiating an intense heat. Surely with how hot the stone must be to put forth that much heat anyone attempting to grab it with their bare hands would be in for a world of pain.

Terser moves up and covers the prone Hashamon.
Aex quaffs her healing potion then uses a fire wall to aid Hashamon's attempt at the stone.
The Oozy demon takes no damage from its proximity to the flame and the lightning bolt fizzles out of existence as it reaches the creature as the spell could not penetrate the creatures defense.
The Tarry Demodand seems to be only partially effected by the fire and it manages to avoid the lightning bolt in part.

Jozhur pleads for someone to help Ecth seeing that the giant toad has the mage with its tongue. He then fires of some shots at the Derghodaemon.

Monsters move for Monday morning (before the above posts for Magana and Hashamon):
The ooze demon (1) looks through the fire, steps forward, and opens its massive mouth. Another vile stream of acid spews forth, driving with force through the wall of fire, slapping Rillet and Ecth (18 acid damage, Reflex DC 23 for half) and splashing into the wall, sizzling against the stone and snow and ice.
The giant winged toad (6) goes with the decline in altitude. In a moment anyone can see why – it has used its tongue to pull Ecthelion closer, through the wall of fire (14 damage, no save). The toad continues toward the ground and Etchelion disappears. He has been swallowed by the massive toad (21 damage, grappled, inside the toad’s belly, mmmmm….toasted mage)!
The Tarry Demodand (2) waves a clawed hand and the wall of fire disappears! It takes a step forward, watching the toad eat Etchelion. Then it turns and looks directly at Rillet.
The insect-like demon (Derghodaemon, 3) turns its head with its many eyes and then starts rubbing two of its sharp legs together, creating a horrible screeching noise like a thousand grasshoppers all at once (Terser, Magana, Hashamon: will save, DC 18 – if you can cast arcane spells, DC 22 -- or feebleminded). It steps forward as it rubs its legs together and Terser takes a swing at it, but misses horribly.
The Hag Nymph (5), steps up to the prone Hashamon and reaches out to touch him. (Fort save DC 17 or paralyzed for 5 rounds (ghoul touch). If save is failed, Terser Fort save DC 17 or sickened by the stench coming from Hashamon).
The Baba Yaga (7) steps forward behind its allies and spots Terser. It points a crooked finger at him and a ray of light-absorbing darkness shoots across the room and strikes Terser in the neck (Enervation. Critical hit. Gain 5 negative levels).
The witchfire (8) floats over to the wall, then fires a green bolt towards Aexana. The bolt strikes true, slamming into Aexana’s side (30 damage, Will save DC 22 or surrounded by witchflame).
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC25 HP 44 of 55) Monday October 26th, 2015 9:38:55 AM
At first, Zeoll is relieved to have been ignored. Then he feels a hot flash of shame. The enemy ignores him because he poses no threat. The old liontaur has been singularly ineffectual so far.
He continues to concentrate on the illusion while he ponders what his next action will be.

OOC: Dear DM, when this happened, "The Hag Nymph (5), steps up to the prone Hashamon and reaches out to touch him" ... please note that Hash was in my illusionary mist. Maybe the enemy had to make a miss chance since she could not see him before the attack. At the least, there is no SR vs illusions, and she might have rolled a nat 1 on the DC11 illusion to see through it, if you rule that she interacted with the illusion before making the attack roll vs Hash.
Zeoll waits until AFTER Hash is finished with his actions. Then the liontaur stops concentrating on the illusion. He casts his Peaceball (Calm Emotions) centered in a 20 ft radius to affect enemies 3, 1, 7, and 6 ... and maybe 2?
Zeoll rolls five SR chances to penetrate DR: 16, 18, 14, 14, and 15. Looks like the enemies completely shug off the old liontaur's attempt to calm the situation.
With his remaining move action, Zeoll uses his Fey Domain Hide ability to go invisible. Then he takes a five ft step (now moved on the map).
Non-actions:
Zeoll looks at the dead guardians already defeated. Any chance there are weapons or rods or staves or wands around the bodies? If so, where? Perception 35, 27.
Zeoll looks at the bodies of the enemies. Any of them look wounded? Any of them look more wounded than others? Perception 27.
Just in general Perception to see what there is to see or in case someone is trying something sneaky. 38

The acid streams toward Rillett, snapping him out of his lament. He shifts slightly and is able to avoid a direct hit. Still, his armor and clothes smoke from the acid he could not avoid.
”While our situation seems grim, do not lose heart! Gargul has set us on this task, and I trust him in this. The barrier is down. We cannot leave the stone to these creatures, so we cannot leave this place without the stone. Everyone draw close – and touch another person. I will not leave anyone here to Ecth’s fate.”
“Remember, even if we should die here, that means nothing to those in the service to Lord of Life and Death. He once used an entire party of dead adventurers to thwart Marteus.”
Rillett will use Agile Feet to move near Terser, and will delay a standard action to cast Plane Shift once everyone is in place.

Rillet plans to planeshift away have been interrupted by the stone itself, that is unless you want to leave empty handed. (OOC: your choice, but the stone is the only way to make Bloopl mortal)

Hashamon scowls at the Dergodaemon. It would take all of them to defeat it, and they couldn't afford the enemy spell users sitting in the back blasting them while they did it. He wasn't in any shape to engage the enemy yet, being as wounded as he was.
"I need healing before I engage!"
He holds off a little longer, watching the battle unfold around him.

Hashamon takes Magana's old spot, then follows her route towards the Witchfire. Rather than attack the hated foe, he again seeks the speed of the beast, and finds it in ample supply. He pushes back into Zeolls illusion of the fog cloud, and one third and final time, grasps at the stone.
(My route will provoke an attack of opportunity from the Witchfire vs Touch AC 29. It's nice to be a monk sometimes.)

The ooze demon (1), distracted by the grunting and noisy Magana, moves to the new, large target and takes a swipe with a claw. The claw slices and sizzles at it digs into Magana (8 damage plus 4 acid damage).
The Derghodaemon (3) engages with the new bison. There is a whir of activity as all five legs move into action, slicing and chopping. The bison does not have a chance as blood splatters all around before the beast mercifully returns to wherever it was summoned from.
The Tarry Demodand (2) steps up to Terser and takes a swipe with a sharp claw, but it narrowly missed the defensively-minded Terser.
The giant winged toad (6) sticks a bloated hand into the water near the stone and looks over at Hashamon with its three eyes.
The Baba Yaga (7) moves up and around the large toad creature, stepping carefully up to the edge of the ice storm, looking around for another target.

[DM Hugh] - BONUS POST [round 7] Thursday October 29th, 2015 7:51:27 AM
Hashamon lifts the heavy stone. It weighs 150 pounds so he can carry it, but it puts him at a heavy load; which means that as a monk most of his abilities are now disabled.
(OOC: based on the equipment listed on sheet + stone I have Hashamon at 165.5 pounds; It is possible for this to be carried at 16 strength, but it does put him at a heavy load)
Rillett (Bradley) HP 58/78 - AC 20/11/18 CMD 19 Thursday October 29th, 2015 10:29:14 AM "This place is going to cave in soon. We cannot let this stone be destroyed or taken, so we must leave with it now. But I will not leave anyone behind, so if you will not move over near us and join hands, you will delay our departure and jeopardize this mission.
Magana, I will need you to reach over and touch Hash where he is to make this work."
Rillett will delay his move and standard actions until folks are in place and touching/holding hands, and then move and cast Plane Shift.
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC25 HP 55 of 55) Thursday October 29th, 2015 10:39:09 AM
While his invisibility lasts, Zeoll moves to a friend and makes it a priority to grab on tight. He does not want to be left behind, so to speak, as his friends head off to heaven, or wherever it is Rillett is taking them. If he has to use a hero point (extra action) to ensure he is grabbing a pal, he will do so.
Zeoll continues to concentrate on the Calm if he can do so as a second priority.

Continuing his screen seems less useful with an invisible taur and a druid hiding in the ground. He hears Rillett's directions, and moves out of combat (skirting the wall to avoid AoO's) and takes his place next to Rillett, ready to lash out at the dergodaemon should it approach.
potential AoO vs AC 27 - 15 damage
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC25 HP 55 of 55) Thursday October 29th, 2015 12:53:58 PM
To add specificity to his plan ... Zeoll will NOT be able to maintain the concentration, but with luck it will be a moot point.
Zeoll spends a hero point for an extra action, and uses it for another round of invisibility, thank Maab. Invisibility means immunity to AoOs, so no worries for Zeoll as he walks around the battlefield, hopefully.
[OOC: I've moved Zeoll on the map.]
To move as shown will take two hasted move actions for the old liontaur, picking his way through the hail field and squeezing through Hash's space. Once in place, he reaches out to touch Magana and Hash (free actions I hope). Now Zeoll is all set.
He calls out, "I got Hash and Magana! Terrserr, grrabs Magana and Rrill. Jozhurr and Aexana, move to Rrillett and hold on!"
That's everybody in a chain. Rillett can cast, and we can blip out.

Hash nods, and deposits the stone on the ground. He takes a deep breath, and channels energy.
(29 hp restored to everyone, including the stone if possible.)
"I don't know, Zeoll. The stone shared memories with me when I touched it. It's from the stars, and came to close to Thermo. It became aware and crashed into the Wold. It was afraid, Zeoll. It's sentient."
He closes his eyes and tries to remember the vision.
" Billoopl wanted it, but the Fey Court denied him that. A Norn hid it, and the rock was alone for a very long time. Billoopl gaining this stone would have been enough to claim all the Wolds oceans as his domain. It showed me many evil Fey flocking to our foe. Many creatures of all species would have died."
He pauses and looks at the Thermostone.
"It also showed me itself being dropped into the ocean. Near bye sea life dies. The rock draws in power from the environment around it. Billoopl screams as he loses power. And the rock… “dies”? The Thermostone expressed that this would give it peace."
"We need to find a place to camp for tonight, defend ourselves as necessary, and in the morning as soon as everyone has recovered, we Plane Shift back to home and deposit it at where it wishes to be. We also need to fix Magana."
A brief flash of shame shows on Hash's face.
"I also am not strong enough to effectively carry the stone. I need someone else to do so. I couldn't even hurt our enemies, the very forces I accepted Reincarnation to defeat, soundly swatted us aside and killed one of our number."

Rillett pushed his helmet halfway back on his head as he looks around.
"Uh Oh. We didn't quite make it to Maab's realm. I've read of these trees in my studies. This looks like it might be the Forests of Fate in the Lands of Rest. Not sure if that's good, but it could be worse I suppose. At least we got rid of the bugs, toads and witches."
"It's pretty frustrating that we lost Ecth - maybe there will be a way to remedy that. Or maybe we'll see him here. Magana seems to be Feebleminded or Confused. Maybe we can get her patched up after we rest. Terser - I can restore you some with the diamond dust I have on hand. After we rest, that is."
"As for 'here', we should probably see if there's a clear area to put that stone, in case it fires up again. I don't really want to find out what happens if we burn down the Forests of Fate. "
"So you say this thing is sentient Hash? And it wants to be dropped in the sea to die and be in peace?"
Rillett will walk over the the stone and touch it, saying, "You are among friends here. We will need time to get you where you need to be, so how about you don't burn us up in the process."
"Anybody know anything more about this place? I can cast a Divination spell, but it will take about 10 minutes to cast. I'm inclined to ask, 'how can we keep the stone from burning us while we rest and then get it where it needs to be?'"
"Any better ideas?"

As he gathers himself and looks around, he too realizes that they are in the Forrests of Fate. He seems to remember Zeoll telling him about this land, the story must've have now slipped the old Taur's memory.

As soon as the group has teleported out of the dreaded cave Aex turns to her Gnome self. Seeing the forest they are in the Greenmage drops to her knees touching the grass, ferns and mosses... ahh that's more like it!
Admiring the forest she listens to what the others are saying.
"I have two lesser restoration potions. Perhaps those will help healing from those negative levels? Or would they not be strong enough... it's the first time I brewed this so I don't know yet how powerful they will be. Anyone needs some further patching up to do? "
If the group decides a rest would be best Aex will wander around the camp-site gathering some new herbs and pieces of wood from living trees to carve into life flasks. If time allows she'll brew a new Cure Serious Wounds potions before going to bed. It won't take her more than an hour to have it fixed.
(Brock) Jozhur AC23/16/17--CMD 24--HP73/73 Sunday November 1st, 2015 7:19:01 PM
Ooc: Don't think that works on negative levels. It would fox Jozhur's strength damage, but that really isn't a huge deal, save the potion if you want.
[DM Hugh] - Into The Woods Sunday November 1st, 2015 11:13:20 PM Zeoll realizes that the group is not in the veils, but is unable to recall how the features of their current environs relate to Woldian cosmography. The old Taur suggests that Hashamon put the Thermostone down, lest there be consequences when it wakes.
Hashamon tries to convey the mental images the stone had shared with him to the group. He places it down and channels positive energy. He also outlines a course of action involving camping in a defensible position, fixing Magana and plane shifting home on the morrow to do what the stone asked.
Terser volunteers to carry the stone moving forward and reminds the others that one of the hags greatly sapped him of strength.
Magana says something unintelligible.
Rillett successfully identifies their surroundings as the Forest of Fate. He suggests finding a spot to place it that will not result in the immolation of the Forest of Fate. He then walks over to where Hashamon deposited it and places a hand on the stone telling it that they will get it where it wants to go, but it needs to be patient and not burn them up. The mage then suggests casting a divination spell to figure out how to handle the stone and get home.
Jozhur reflects on how the loss of Ecth/Spire will seal his fate in the future. He then concurs with Rillett regarding their location and polls the others about getting back. He too tries to reassure the stone.
Aex admires the fauna in the Forest of Fate while listening to the others. She then brings up the fact that she has 2 lesser restoration potions before gathering herbs and wood pieces. She takes the time before bed to prepare a potion of Cure Serious Wounds
(OOC: The assessment about lesser restoration is correct. You need Restoration at minimum to take care of negative levels.)
Knowledge Arcana DC 19 : Highlight to display spoiler: {You know that Terser is suffering from Enervation and the effect will pass in a maximum of 15 hours from when he was hit with the spell.}
Although the teleportation spell was fairly off target from The Veil. Fortune did smile on where you landed. You are in a 40 foot clearing surrounded by the tall trees on every side. The trees are staggered and there is enough space between the trunks to walk through. Hashamon has deposited the Thermostone in the center of the clearing which just happens to be a patch of bare earth.
Perception DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { You notice there are a number of stones in the nearby undergrowth that you could use to make a perimeter for a makeshift fire pit to temporarily contain the Thermostone. }
About 18 seconds after Hashamon dropped the rock, but after Jozhur and Rillett have touched it and subsequently removed their hands the stone starts sparking again and radiating a lot of heat. It probably would not be a good idea to touch the stone now that it has stopped being repressed.
Knowledge Arcana DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {The stone probably did not hear your sentiment while it was repressed by the spells of Billoopl's minions. At that time it was essentially just a stone.}
The group has discussed camping the night and Plane Shifting back in the morning or casting Divination but no general consensus has appeared to be met. Do you carry out these actions or do something else?

OOC: Ugh, I started a post at home, then forgot to click Submit. Now i have to recreate it. Well, it'll be less well written, with no quotes or rolling Rs this time. :-(
Zeoll looks around, sees that there are stones in the area, and suggests makign a fire pit for the Stone to rest in. (Perception 28)
He looks closely at the Thermo Stone (Perception 27). He tells it that we will take care of it, and is it sure it wants to end its life? Sense Motive 32.
Rillett's Divination is a good idea to see if it is safe to camp here. If so, Zeoll will take the last watch and try to Read his Dreams to discover WHERE the best place is to drop the stone into the ocean.
That was the gist of it, IIRC.
Magana (Craig) [HP 101 of 101] [DR 1/-] Monday November 2nd, 2015 2:03:17 PM
Magana sees her pack-mates settling in for a rest, and curls up on the ground a comfortable distance from the warming-stone. She is soon sound asleep, exhausted by their recent battles, and content with the world.
Hashamon, Spirit Hunter 81 / 81 HP - AC 25 / Flat 19 / CMD 32 d20+9=11 ; Monday November 2nd, 2015 2:54:03 PM
Hashamon watches Magana for a time, sitting over her while she sleeps. He finds her as a stark contrast to his own current situation. He had gone from a savage power to something more defined and deliberate. His old self probably would have died again during the last test.
"A roar and a charge would have spelled my doom again. I am thankful for my new gifts, though my soul aches to hear the call of the wild world once more."
Hashamon stretches and lay down, near Magana, settling his back against the large Minotaur. He keeps a silent watch over her long into the night.

Rillett (Bradley) HP 58/78 - AC 20/11/18 CMD 19 d100=31 ; Monday November 2nd, 2015 6:51:30 PM
Rillett looks at the stone, and wonders how we wound up with a giant pet rock. Or maybe it wound up with us.
"Well, at least we won't need to build a campfire tonight."
Rillett prepared for the Divination, getting out the requisite incense. He meditates and prays to Gargul for guidance asking "How can we keep the stone from burning us while we transport it to where it needs to be?" (Base chance of success is 79% - d100 roll is 31.)
Once the Divination is complete, he will pray to Gargul for Ecthelion, seeking guidance for his return to our group.
------------------------ From the spell Divinaiton: a divination spell can provide you with a useful piece of advice in reply to a question concerning a specific goal, event, or activity that is to occur within 1 week. The advice granted by the spell can be as simple as a short phrase, or it might take the form of a cryptic rhyme or omen. If your party doesn't act on the information, the conditions may change so that the information is no longer useful. The base chance for a correct divination is 70% + 1% per caster level, to a maximum of 90%. If the die roll fails, you know the spell failed, unless specific magic yielding false information is at work.
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC25 HP 55 of 55) Monday November 2nd, 2015 7:44:51 PM
Zeoll spends the evening telling stories of Lord Eberyon and Queen Maab to the stone. He's not sure if the stone can hear or even understand, but maybe the company will make the stone cheer up some and maybe even decide not to end its own life. And if it gets a blessing from the Fey King, so much the better.
(He won't tell his tales if he has any sense they are not welcome.)
If the party rests here, Zeoll uses his Read Dreams ability as he sleeps, trying to discover the best place to set the stone into the ocean, if that is what it chooses to do.
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC25 HP 55 of 55) Monday November 2nd, 2015 7:45:43 PM OOC: And please, no comments from the peanut gallery that an evening of Zeoll's tales would make anyone prefer death!

Jozhur Jozhur settles in and tries to get some sleep, but his mind wanders to the days events and the loss of Ecth.
[DM Hugh] - Into The Woods Tuesday November 3rd, 2015 3:19:18 AM Zeoll agrees that damaging the Forest of Fate would be a bad idea and that Rillett should use the spell.
The old tuar then points out stones that could be used to make a firepit of sorts to help prevent damage to the Forest Of Fate.
He then reassures the stone and asks if it is sure about wanting to die. Zeoll volunteers for last watch, reading his dreams before waking up to pray for spells and stand watch.
Magana curls up on the ground to take a rest. As she is sleeping, something interesting happens. She actually starts to dream. She dreams of sailing aboard the Lionfish and of interacting with her party and the crew in meaningful ways. (OOC: Feeblemind effect wore off while sleeping, when you wake up are no longer feebleminded)
Hashamon reflects again on his reincarnation and settles in near Magana watching her sleep, long into the night.
Aex worries about the party being in possession of the stone and if it will burn the Forest down.
Zeoll points out that Gargul wanted them to have the stone.
Terser points out the stone is aligned with their cause and if it can't or won't stop harming them anyway, they could always suppress the stone and plainshift back to where they need to be to quench it. He then offers some healing, before bedding down and volunteering for third watch.
Rillett looks on the bright side pointing out that with the stone, they can forego a campfire. He then casts Divination on the subject of how to get the stone where it needs to be before praying to Gargul on the subject of Ecth.
Zeoll tells the stone stories of Lord Eberyon and Queen Maab.
Jozhur settles in and tries to get some sleep, but his mind wanders to the days events and the loss of Ecth.
In response to Rillett's inquiry a chill wind blows through the campsite and flat disembodied voice responds, "Transmutation, Evocation, Abjuration...These are but few examples of magic schools whose proper application could solve your problem..." Once the voice has said its piece the wind dies down and one of the stones in the firepit slowly levitates 3 feet off the ground before returning to its place in the pit.
Rillett receives no immediate indication of a response to his prayers on the subject of Ecth.
The Thermostone shows Zeoll the following scenes after the Taur has shared its tales and asked it questions: Zeoll Highlight to display spoiler: { Billoopl gaining the rock and his power exploding. He commands many evil fey, and has complete control over the Wolds oceans. Many creatures of all species die. The rock “feels” sad. The rock being dropped into the ocean. Nearby sea life dies. The rock draws in power from the environment around it. Billoopl screams as he loses power. And the rock… “dies”? The rock “feels” at peace. Hashamon as a Minotaur valiantly standing toe to toe against the obsidian golem, protecting the rest of the party while the obsidian golem explodes and kills him. You get the feeling that the stone is trying to convey that through its sacrifice the greater good will be preserved and that through its selfishness, Biloopl could theoretically become unstoppable.}
While reflecting on the events of the previous day and what the stone shared with him, Zeoll reads his dreams.
Zeoll Highlight to display spoiler: {You dream of flying over the ocean, a speck of land visible in the distance. You continue to soar over the ocean as the land grows with the distance you travel. As the land gets larger in your field of vision you can make out the twin volcanoes of Bonetown. You continue to travel towards Bonetown and its volcanoes and judging by the setting sun at your back, you are on the Westernmost side of the island. You realize that you started by flying over deep water, but as you get closer and the volcanoes peaks get larger and more in focus you are now over the shallows as a mere 5 feet of water separate you from the bottom of the Southern Ocean. The whole time you get a feeling of rightness and you wake up before reaching shore. }
Aside from the divination and Zeoll's dream reading, the party passes an otherwise uneventful night in the Forest of Fate. Zeoll is happy to notice that his spells are recovered. You have survived the night, Magana is her old self, your question has been answered and your dreams read, what next?
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC25 HP 55 of 55) Tuesday November 3rd, 2015 8:04:15 AM
"The immorrtal powerrs of the Wold have been merrciful!" Zeoll says. "They have rrevealled to me exactly wherre to place the stone. The spot is in the shallow waterrs west of Bonetown. I can take us therre."
"And in talking with the Stone, I think -- and it thinks -- that this is the best thing to do. Considerring that the gods themselves sent us herre forr this, that's also a pointerr in the rright dirrection!"
"Let us trravel when you arre rready, Rrillet. To Bonetown, or to the west side of the island on which it sits, please."
Before leaving, Zeoll looks for a nice piece of fallen wood from the Forest of Fate. He is thinking he could have an artisan craft it into something beautiful.
Terser (Warren G) [22/13/19 -- CMD 25 -- HP 109/109] 5 levels drained (25% chance no crit, uncanny dodge) Tuesday November 3rd, 2015 3:40:26 PM Let's hope this is all as simple as it seems to be. If you enchant my hands to withstand the fire again, Rillett, I can form the bridge to the stone while you shift us back to our home port.

Aex listens to Zeoll's tales and his ideas on where to place the stone. It all sounds too simple to just shift the party and the stone to the exact spot where it should go... but perhaps now's the time for things to get a bit more simple...
"If it's the fire that bothers us I can change into a Fire Elemental?"
Further, Aex meditates a but replenishing the same spell list as before. Also, given the marvel of this forest, she cautiously chips away a few pieces of lifewood to turn into lifewood flasks later. (if the trees allow her she'll take enough material to craft 5 flasks when they get back home)
Hashamon, Spirit Hunter 81 / 81 HP - AC 25 / Flat 19 / CMD 32 Tuesday November 3rd, 2015 10:50:43 PM
Hashamon prays for awhile, but leaves most of his gifts from the gods unfulfilled at this point. There's no telling what the day might bring, and he wants to be flexible. When Aexana recommends she carry the stone as an elemental, Hash grins.
"That's a good idea, Aexana. I am envious of the wild spirit that you possess. I can still feel.. rumblings.. of the beast within.. but it is a hushed and muted thing, compared to the roar it was before my death."
Magana (Craig) [HP 101 of 101] [DR 1/-] Tuesday November 3rd, 2015 11:21:29 PM
Magana wakes to voices around her and realizes she understands them! She sits up suddenly and sees Hashamon watching her.
"Well, that was a new experience!" she says to him. "Now I know what it must feel like to be a dog or a cat." She pauses for a moment and shudders. "Or a cow!"
She catches some breakfast and performs her morning prayers to Gargul, thanking for seeing them through their struggles, and asking for his guiding hand for Ecthelion's passage through the afterlife.
Rillett (Bradley) HP 58/78 - AC 20/11/18 CMD 19 Wednesday November 4th, 2015 1:29:09 AM
Before sleeping, Rillett will cast Resist Energy on himself and touch the stone. (It will prevent the first 20 points of fire damage. Is this enough?)
He will then cast Dispel Magic on the stone. Does this suppress the stone?
"The voice said, 'Transmutation, Evocation, Abjuration...These are but few examples of magic schools whose proper application could solve your problem...' Then one of the stones in the fire pit levitated 3 feet off the ground before returning to its place in the pit. What do you think this means?
Also before sleeping, he will heal himself and anyone else there. If anyone is down levels, Aex's potions or Rillett's Wand of Lesser Restoration should fix then up. Terser is a different issue. Assuming the ray that hit Terser was Enervation, we should wait until his levels return in the morning.
"So, here's my plan. Aex and I can cast Water Walk and Water Breathing on folks - you never know where we'll wind up after a Plane Shift, or who will be there to greet us. Then, we attempt to suppress the stone, and we can cast Protection from Energy on someone. They can hold the stone as we attempt to Plane Shift to a location near where Zeoll described. Then we drop the stone and run."
"Also, I have a Swan Boat I can summon, and a way to get a message to the Lionfish to have the crew sail her back. Over a few days, I can even Teleport us all to the Lionfish."
"If you have any thought on this, let's hear it."
Before he rests, he will again pray to Gargul for guidance, and for Ecth. In the morning, he will pray for guidance.
"It's nice to have you back Magana. You've always been the strong, silent type, but I like you better when you can talk."
If everyone is in agreement with this plan, we can simply act on it instead of further discussion.
