[DM Hugh] - Yo Ho, Yo Ho... d100=98 ; Wednesday February 17th, 2016 12:32:39 PM Zeoll tells his friends about his dreams and makes more preparations. He makes some purchases in the catacombs (OOC: update your sheet and send me a mail when your order is filled). He suggests posting Rillett by the gem and polls his friends as to what the best course of action for the people of Bonetown to take with the 2 hours that the gem buys them. He also casts a spell that grants him a special connection to the harbour.
Terser wonders about the song that the children are singing and tries to teach them a more practical song about gold mining and the uses thereof. They don't seem to be one for mining, but they seem interested in gold or at least treasure and start singing a song about a pirates life in response.
Reggie spends her time mostly aboard ship. She also looks for the old man mentioned in Zeoll's dream but doesn't find anyone matching the description.
Rillett works on scrolls day in and out with his new ring. He also tells his blind mentor Yaas about what had transpired. "Stay true in your quest, young Rillett" Yaas says, "The end must be near. You have crippled Billoopl's power, all that is left is to finish the job. Gargul will be well pleased." Yaas says.
Rillett's divination fizzles (OOC: I rolled a d100 and was saying anything 80 or below passed over failed and got a 98)
Johzur shows Reggie to the portside house when realizing there isn't a good place for her to sleep. He also is of the opinion that the people of Bonetown should stay put.
Aex spends her week brewing various potions and bottling them in lifewood flasks which she keeps in her pocketses. She is happy that her new plant companion is making friends and names it LStin, formally introducing it to the children. They all want to shake its tendrils in acquaintance and one little girl by the name of Ella asks Aex where she got LStin as she wants a pet just like him some day.
At the end of your week of preparations, Linus and Enoch feel that you need a break and invite you out to the Sea Shanty dockside, their treat. The tavern is abuzz with activity and people are still discussing the previous weeks events with the volcano and the appearance of Goodie Bess and how there is that shiny stone in the middle of town guarded by both the harbor master's men and a plant creature.
Various food and drinks are ordered and you take in the bustling atmosphere of the tavern. However, the answer to the riddle of Zeoll's dream just may be amongst you....

Our mage cast water breathing on us, we left the decks of Shanty’s Pride, and we rode the anchor to the sea floor. We passed through a sunken cave and found ourselves in a rough hewn structure decorated some of the strangest artwork I had ever seen. There was also plenty of treasure. The guards though, they were really tough. We managed to take out some of them but then they got our mage. Our rogue failed to locate all the traps and we lost more of the company. At this point we decided to turn back but we were ambushed on our way out. I was the only one who made it out of there. There was three left when we got back to the ship, but ‘ol Jort and Garfen were on board when the sea exploded! Waves knocked me far away, but I could see the ocean just swallow up the Shanty’s Pride. I blacked out, but them waves knocked me all the way to shore. Zeoll sees the fellow from his dream, and tells his friends. He says the fellow has a tale about how he and ship actually visited Biloopl's underwater temple lair!
The old liontaur walks creakily over to the old sailor and asks if he can sit down. (He does so on the floor, liontaur style.)
Zeoll introduces himself and the other Lionfishers. He explains that the group is determined to save the town from Biloopl's demon invasion.
He says to the sailor, "You see, my frriends and I have a bone to pick with this Biloopl, and we would be pleased as punch to pay a visit to that underrwaterr temple you saw. All we need arre dirrections, or maybe a guide to get therre. Any chance you could lend us a hand?"

Stocked up with Potions and spells refreshed, Aex and LStin go with the group to the Sea Shanty. Seeing the old sailor Aex raises and eyebrow. If that's what pirate's life leads to perhaps she should concentrate on her herbal shop back in Plateau City. Come to think of it... it's been a while since she heard something of her daughter. She makes a mental note to write er a letter telling her about the crazy bunch she's travelling with.
The tale sure is as remarkable as it is disturbing. A sole survivor of a trip to Billoopl's sanctuary... somewhere deep down below the water... it just smells fishy... what else can you expect from a cave down there.
[DM Hugh] - Who Fed The Wine to the Drunken Sailor... Thursday February 18th, 2016 2:15:38 PM Rillet participated in the discussions with Enoch and Linus. The two men were curious how best to deploy the Bonetown guard in the event of an attack.
Zeoll notices the man from his dream and points him out to his friends. He introduces himself and the rest of the Lion Fishers before sitting Taur style on the floor. He says to the sailor, "You see, my frriends and I have a bone to pick with this Biloopl, and we would be pleased as punch to pay a visit to that underrwaterr temple you saw. All we need arre dirrections, or maybe a guide to get therre. Any chance you could lend us a hand?"
Magana chips in that Billoopl's power is drawn from the sea, so it would be better to organize the people in Bonetown's defense then send them away.
Reggie watches the old sailor for any signs of trouble.
Terser almost missed the sailor, but Zeoll pointed him out. He backs the liontaur as best he can.
Jozhur also aids Zeoll in relating to the man and hails the barmade to bring the man an ale.
Aex is reminded that she needs to contact her daughter and thinks that the sailor's story is both remarkable and a little fishy.
The younger man dressed in the finery of the shipping guild, goes to leave huffily as his table is overrun by lionfishers, "You can deal with the old beggar and his 45 gold piece tab. I was just trying to have a drink in peace when he shows up and then the next thing I know I got a bunch of adventurers swarming my table."
Sarl accepts the mug gratefully from the barmaid and clinks it in a toast before taking a long draught.
He says, "I wish you well in your hunting for that monster and his minions. If I knew where the temple was I would guide you myself. Warrd knows I could use the coin. Unfortunately, my ordeal was several years ago, when I wore a younger man's clothes. Though I do still possess, the map we used to get there, the lot of good it will do you without that compass."
He was about to say something else when the Sea Shanty's bouncer Bruno approaches the group.
"Is this old beggar bothering you fine folks? I already heard a complaint from Misser Roche from the Shipping Guild. I was going to toss old Sarl here out on his ear, since he has an outstanding tab come due, though now that he appears to have such fine friends as yourselves, maybe one of you can cover his debt? " Bruno says laying a hand none to gently on Sarl's shoulder.
It looks like the bouncer has every intention of tossing Sarl out the door lest his debt be paid immediately. What do you do?

Aex agrees with Terser. She's surprised her friends so eagerly cover this beggar's expenses... although it's rather unclear that the bartender allowed his tab to get this high in the first place.
"That's a lot of cash for a wild story friends... this sounds like a wild goose chase... and... I would not pour any more booze into his head or whatever he has to say will be even more clouded... Does he drink because he likes it or because he wants to forget?!?"
She rummages through her pockets looking for something that could sober his up but finds no such thing... unless alcohol intoxications could be considered poison...
[DM Hugh] - A Whale of a Tale... Friday February 19th, 2016 2:14:49 PM Magana dumps 40 gold coins on the table and tries to make her displeasure known with the bouncer, in a way only a minotaur knows how to do. She considers the matter solved.
Rillett adds 5 of his own coins to the pile. He thanks the bouncer for his work and tries to get a feel if Sarl is telling the truth and figure out if anyone is eavesdropping.
Terser questions if buying the sailor more booze is the best course of action if his tab was that high. He also questions his recollection.
Reggie takes inspiration from Sarl's tab and orders 2 bottles of Rum of her own. She is happy at the prospect of going to sea again.
Zeoll asks about the silver compass.
Jozhur keeps his eyes sharp for signs of trouble.
Aexana is surprised at how her friends are enabling Sarl and questions his story further. She also cautions about pouring him more drinks, lest his memory become more cloudy and looks for something to sober Sarl up.
(OOC: I will rule that alchohol is technically a poison)
Bruno collects the coins and bows to the Lionfishers. To Sarl he says, "You behave yourself, now. Not everyone is as kind as they are."
Rillett get's the impression that Sarl is being truthful. He believes he is the sole survivor of an expedition to Billoopl's sacred temple. With the bar being as packed as it is, no one seems to be paying any specific attention to the old sailor. There do seem to be a lot of people interested in the lot of you, but you had been deeply involved with the events of the previous week as well as secured a potential needed protection for Bonetown in the form of the quartz crystal Goodie Bess gave you.
The bar maid comes back with Reggie's 2 bottles of Rum and assorted shot glasses on a tray. She sets the tray down on the table and leaves.
Sarl helps himself to a generous serving from one of the rum bottles.
To Zeoll's question about the silver directional device, Sarl says between sips of Rum, "Alas it was lost beneath the waves. Our mage Donovan had it on his person when we went down beneath the waves. He had it on him when he fell. I would imagine it could be still down there...hiccup...which is funny because you need the compass to get to where the compass was last scene." He starts laughing.
The drink really seems to have gone to old Sarl's head.
Sarl stops laughing and says, "I do still have the map though and I'd be willing to part with it for the right price...What do you say? 1,000 gold? Sound reasonable? There was a lot of treasure down there."

Reggie flags down the barmaid and asks for 2 more bottles of rum and no glasses. She didn't realizes that she was ordering for everyone, when she placed her order in the first place. The tavern is crowded with bodies and although Reggie was at her own table, she was with the rest of the Lionfishers who went en mass to Sarl's table so it was an easy mix up to make in the poor barmaid's defense. Though Reggie can breathe easy because aside from the money the Lionfishers paid for Sarl's debt, the rest of the evenings libations are covered by Linus and Enoch, so she may have to apologize to them later if she ends up being the reason why all the rum is gone.
Aex is about to hand Sarl one of her homebrewed bottles of antitoxin, but Jozhur stays her hand. He goes on to make the case to Sarl, that they have already payed his tab and reiterates they aren't looking for treasure, but for the death of Billoopl. He even offers to let Sarl come with them and relive his glory days. Jozhur attempts to feel for a map case on Sarl's person and but Sarl notices, however Jozhur's bluff succeeds, masking his intentions. Sarl mistakingly thinks Jozhur is coming onto him. "Jozhur, truly you are a strapping young lad, but you are barking up the wrong tree. Nonetheless, I am inclined to take you up on your offer and join your expedition. I will provide the needed map however, the years have not been kind to old Sarl. Truth be told ever since I lost Shanty's Pride, Jort, Garfen and the rest, time has not been kind to me. I have bounced around more ports than I care to remember, getting thrown out of countless bars and picking up odd crew jobs when I could. As I got older my opportunity for work has just become less and less. There probably isn't much wind left in my sails...but I digress...what I really want is someplace I can belong and feel useful. You have a ship, yes? I am a sailor. Take me with you on this expedition and I'll pull my weight. If we are successful and you are happy with my work, let me stay on as crew, permanently. I don't eat much, but I sure can drink a lot." He laughs "Whatdya say?" He asks.
Meanwhile Zeoll employs Rillet to ask the Gods opinion regarding mounting an expedition to attack Billoopl's lair.
What now? Do you say a little prayer and find out if the God's show favor on this idea or throw caution to the wind and take Sarl up on his offer? The choice is yours.

Rillett says little else as he casts Deeper Insight. Then, from a distance and out of Sarl's view, he will use his Probe Psyche ability to see into Sarl's soul. As stares at the man Rillett's eyes turn milky white, and he looks to see if this man is who he says and what his background and motivations are before we allow him to be our guide and live aboard the Lionfish.
Later, after we return to our house, Rillett will cast Divination, "What will we find if we follow Sarl's guidance to the undersea cave where he says Billoopl dwells?" (80% chance of success - I am inclined to let the DM roll this, as it can affect what he chooses to reveal about the future.)

He senses no deception from the old sailor and is of the opinion that they should add the man to the crew of the Lionfish and try to decipher the map without the compass, invoking the help of the Gods if need be.
Rillett says that he has no need to consult the Gods with respect to taking Sarl aboard, but he will petition Gargul later for more specifics about the task. He then activates deeper insight as his eyes go milky white and he focuses on Sarl.
Rillett : Highlight to display spoiler: {Sarl is a good person with no particular leanings toward chaos or law. He has had a hard life as he has said and is honestly looking for a new place to belong. Sarl is also an old soul having many past lives. The odd thing about Sarl's incarnations, both past and present that particularly stands out to Rillett is that this old man truly has an affinity for the sea. In all his past lives he spent at least some time on the water. Sometimes he would drown, he was murdered by pirates once, and stabbed in a bar fight at a port town as well. Occasionally he would live long enough to accumulate enough wealth and retire, spending the remainder of his days on land. In some ways one could say Sarl is essentially an ancient mariner as his past lives span generations going all the way back to the time when Domi and Alemi were mortal.}
Reggie stows the 2 bottles of rum in her bag and then goes over Sarl, encouraging him to drink up, putting the open bottle of rum in front of him.

Terser is in agreement to bring Sarl along as well but points out that he now gets a share of the plunder and it may make sense to just pay him the gold he wanted. Though he does look forward to the prospect of a new drinking buddy.
Jozhur slides away from Sarl after he realizes what the sailor thought he was up to. He addresses Terser's concern saying as crew he is entitled to the same share as the rest, though they may deserve hazard pay for this outing.
Jozhur makes it clear that the open berth is for crew and not an adventurer, which does not entitle him to an equal share. He also implies that there is no room for negotiation.
Aex says "Looks like we've got ourself a new crew member then... but I guess you'll have to discuss your drinking behaviour with our captain... we don't want to hit a shallow because explored the bottom of a bottle o' rum... " she then puts her lifewood flask away.
Sarl says, "Crew is good enough for me. If I was younger, maybe I'd want to square off against Billoopl and his cohorts, but I have lost a step or two, though I can still pull my weight when it comes to life aboard a ship."
Surprisingly, he then takes his wooden leg off and removes a cap that has been set in the top of the appendage. From the hidden compartment he pulls out a well worn piece of leather with various lines and sigils burned into the leather and hands it over to Zeoll.
“I’m not sure if the map will be of use to us without the compass. As I said our rogue carried it with him and was slain in the temple. There might be more compasses out there but I am not sure, though I'm sure you have powerful magics you can use to find out or maybe the Gods can help discern the map's secrets.”
You drink long until the night until they finally call last call and you collectively stagger back to the house after dropping Sarl off at the Lionfish.
Back at the house Rillett casts divination asking, "What will we find if we follow Sarl's guidance to the undersea cave where he says Billoopl dwells?"
Rillet Highlight to display spoiler: { You are blasted with a sudden vision of a large blurry shadowy figure that looks like a cross between a lobster, a man and an octopus holding a trident. The figure turns its gaze upon you and then the vision abruptly ends.}
After the powerful vision Rillett is both prone and dazed on the floor and he has the inkling that whatever he saw also potentially saw him.
Rillett (Bradley) HP 87/87 - AC 23/13/21 CMD 20 Tuesday February 23rd, 2016 5:13:09 PM "Captain Jozhur, I think you have made a wise choice. Our new friend Sarl here has sea water in is veins, and his relationship with the sea stretches back many lifetimes."
"Welcome aboard Sarl - we'll be glad for your help as a crew member."
Later, back at the house, Rillett is literally floored by his divination.
As he recovers from his divination, he sits up and tells the group, "Uh oh. I sought Gargul's guidance, asking 'What will we find if we follow Sarl's guidance to the undersea cave where he says Billoopl dwells?' In response, I was assaulted with a sudden vision of a large blurry shadowy figure that looked like a cross between a lobster, a man and an octopus holding a trident. The figure turned its gaze on me and then the vision abruptly ended, knocking me down. I think Billoopl knows we're coming."
The following day, he will cast a divination, asking "How can we find a compass or other means that will guide us to Billoopl's lair?" (80% chance of success.)
Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC25 HP 59 of 59) d20+5=21 ; d20+5=20 ; Tuesday February 23rd, 2016 6:38:07 PM
Zeoll welcomes the old sailor aboard.
That evening, he engages the old man with tales of King Eberyon and of sea-fey.
Zeoll studies the map before bed -- Linguistics 21, Know History 20 (both trained)
In his own dreams [Seer ability - no need to roll], he seeks the best way to use it.
In the morning, he prepares his usual complement of spells, except for a Divine Favor (taking up two lvl 1 slots) and a Nemesis Insight (Seer Newfound Divination spell).
(Ed) Reggie Tuesday February 23rd, 2016 10:59:19 PM
At first Reggie looks a little concerned at Jozhur's comment, Sarl was no less the sailor as Reggie was, and she was just as new. Of course being just part of a crew that didn't beat her or chain her in the hold was in improvement.
Reggie soon is content to be a part of the crew.
As the night wore on Reggie enjoyed the revelry and soon wandered her way back to the ship. (she forgot about the house for tonight) besides if they were to head to sea, she would need to ensure she had a bunk, and this night seemed the best to claim it.
Reggie did not have the divination powers nor much else to contribute for now. so she merely told those that did good luck.
Magana the Tauress (Craig) [HP 112 of 112] [DR 1/-] Tuesday February 23rd, 2016 11:09:12 PM
Magana provides a silent companionship for Reggie until she is safely aboard the Lionfish, then takes her own rest at Portside House. Oddly, she dreams of bacon.
Terser (Warren G) [22/13/19 -- CMD 26 -- HP 117/117] (25% chance no crit, uncanny dodge) Wednesday February 24th, 2016 12:53:49 AM
Terser enjoys the night air along with Reggie and Magana, and accompanies the Tauress back to the house once Reggie is safely stowed and sleeping off the evening's celebrations. Terser stumbles a bit himself before catching his balance. It seems that Reggie can almost keep up drinking with the hardier races.
(Brock) Jozhur AC23/ Touch 16/Flat 17--CMD 24--HP88/88 Wednesday February 24th, 2016 2:46:41 AM
Jozhur extends a hand to Sarl, "In that case, welcome to the Lionfish." He sees that Sarl is introduced to Tula.
Jozhur is not too shocked by Rillet's divination. "Yes, he should be expecting us. The next logical step for us would be too seek him out and destroy him."
(StevenVdB) Aexana Gnome (S) HP75/75 - AC23/19/19 - +4 vs Giant - CMD 20 - +1 vs Lizards & Goblinoids Wednesday February 24th, 2016 8:45:24 AM
Aex also is curious to learn where the journey will bring them. She hopes to prepare the right spells that will keep her and her friends safe in this underwater adventure. Not experience into the fine art of reading a map Aex listens to what the others have to say about their heading. Once in open waters the little Gnome tries to do her share aboard the ship.
