The next day, you rise and head for the Arena. Outside the competitors' entrance, you meet up with Nightblade's "ringers," a nimble-looking group with a lot of knives.
You check in, and are assigned an area in which to wait. From here you can hear, but not see, the "action" going on in the Arena. Judging from the groans and jeers of the sparse crowd, it isn't very action-y.
But then your fight is called and you make your way out onto the coarse brown sand of the Arena. The place is immense. The floor is in the City Below, but the spectators' stands stretch all the way into the City Above.
Unfortunately, the wealth of spectators' seats only serves to emphasize the small crowd. Not many have turned out, and why should they? Nobody's heard of the "House of Silver," and they're just fighting some mercenary company. Not worth coming out for.
For what it's worth, the few who are there do seem really interested in your fight. A ragged cheer rises up as you face the House of Silver across the sand.
The voice of the Arena Master booms out: "Fight until death, unconsciousness, or surrender!" he cries. "Both sides stand ready!"

"Let's get 'em!" Var shout, and fires a silvered arrow at Reakos. (10 vs. AC) The shot had more enthusiasm than accuracy, however, and lands harmlessly in the dirt.

The party may be surprised at what Toston is wearing. The next morning Toston assembles with the rest of the team wearing an outfit consisting of leather pants, boots, long sleeved shirt, gloves and cape with a hooded cowl. The leather is dyed gold in color and has been worked in such as way that the patterning for most of outfit resembles scales. A stylized flame has been worked into the center of the chest of the shirt. The hooded cowl covers the gnome's head and has goggles sewn into it and reptilian teeth worked into the front of the cowl itself to resemble a maw. The boots and gloves have been worked to as resemble talons and the clasp on the cape looks to be made of bone, that juts out from either side when locking. To this Toston has added his WLA pin and is carrying a small arsenal strapped to a person with sheathes for his various weapons at points that he can get to. (his bow, his kama, his siangham, his nunchaku and his arrows) He also has the following items in his bag and pockets (the wand of magic missile, the scroll of mage armor, the scroll of shocking grasp, the scroll of expeditious retreat, the scroll of color spray, the scroll of protection from evil, the potion of cat's grace, the potion of cure light wounds, the potion of shield of faith, the fortune cookie and the tinsel).
When they pick up the reinforcement from the Darts, Toston addresses them saying, "If any of our opposition is incapacitated do not slay them, if any of us tell you to retreat, you should listen, lastly try not to get killed out there."
Toston casts mage armor on himself while waiting for their turn in the arena. (CL check 16 vs 2 = success).
Toston also casts the scroll of expeditious retreat while waiting for their turn in the arena (CL check 13 vs 2 = success)
Toston also drinks the potion of shield of faith while waiting for their turn in the arena.
Toston casts shield on himself in the round before the announcer tells them that combat has begun.
In the first round of combat Toston casts shocking grasp from the scroll, opting to hold the charge (CL check 5 v 2 = success) he then moves up 20 feet and sizes up his opponents (Perception : 26) then strikes a fighting pose and makes the come hither gesture with right hand aimed at their adversaries., the crackling electricity of the held spell accentuating it nicely.

Lornak puts on his armor and stows his weapons where they can all be accessed. He leaves his room and wordlessly joins the group in the Great Room. As the company leaves he his confident that everyone will be as ready as they can be for the upcoming fight. This brings him comfort.
En route to the Arena, Lornak sees Toston and does a double take. He is used to using discretion, cover and stealth. As he gazes at the Gnome's New Armor the sun catches the golden scales and glimmers. He chuckles a bit in side.
"Discretion the better part of valour?" He asks the gnome not really seeking for the gnome to answer him and continues; "Well played my friend." He stops abruptly, grabs one of his daggers in his fist blade down and brings to his chest in salute. "It will be my honor to fight alongside you." Bowing slightly.
Meeting the Darts along the way holds little fanfare for Lornak. He does his best to keep his mouth shut and focus on the task at hand, not causing any friction.
Anticipation grips him as he hears the battle on the other side of the door come to a close. It's time. He loads a silver arrow into his crossbow, checks his weapons and gear. The call to fight is made and he exits onto the killing ground.
When he steps out he gives himself a moment for his eyes to adjust to the light and takes in his surroundings. (Perception d20=) Lornak will hold his movement until the company's front line fighters take position. He will play the middle ground between them and Alizar as planned.
Lornak takes a defensive posture and goes into total defense. (+4 dodge bonus to AC) Buckler (+1 to AC except when attacking with the arm that is attached to. Lornak has it attacked to his left arm and uses his crossbow in his left hand.)

Hmerrin gives Toston's outfit a raised eyebrow. "Subtle," he deadpans.
But, soon they are at the arena. The fighter waits until the group is called to pour a vial of Silversheen over his battleaxe. As the groups take there places, he downs the potion of Bull Strength Dusan had given him earlier.
"Fight!"
Toston moves right out. Hmerrin goes with him. The lad strides forth with the battleaxe in his right hand, and a silver dagger in his left. Taking position next to Toston, he waits.

Dušan get's into position behind the front line, when he notices the small "dragon" in front of him. He was about to make a witty remark, when he notices the WLA pin. Normally such brandishing in this city would make him nervous, but somehow it seems fitting for this fight. He gives Toston an encouraging slap on the shoulder.
Looking around at the other large and intimidating newcomers, Dušan alternates between puffing up his chest and casting Guidance on Asteria.
Jolted by the sudden shout of "Fight", Dušan forces himself to call down. The sudden surge of emotions must have disrupted his connection to the Wold's Blood. Cursing, he is at least grateful he got off the Guidance spell on Asteria before the match started.

Wil, feeling a little excited for the fight to start starts shadow boxing with Cicero. The others, of course, see no one. It's not weird till the black, cloaked cleric begins to talk smack. "Come on... you can do better than that. Waoo... too slow."

Alizar woke and traveled to the Arena with the rest of the group. Lost in quiet introspection and prayer, he has little to add to conversation.
As soon as the battle starts Alizar chants a hym of protection, and casts Bless.

When the signal is given to fight, Var fires a shot that falls short of its mark.
Toston casts a spell and moves forward, daring the House of Silver to come out and meet him. Hmerrin moves up with him, and stands ready to attack.
Lornak takes up a defensive stance.
Dušan casts a cantrip to give Asteria a slight advantage.
Wilford casts a spell and squares off against an imaginary opponent.
Alizar casts Bless to give the group an advantage.
The Darts draw their weapons and move forward.
Selene (whom you recognize from the magistrate hearing) shifts into her were-form; a were-tiger! She points a wand, and a sizzling green arrow comes racing toward Asteria! However, the barbarian proves too nimble, and the acid arrow flies harmlessly wide.
Next to her, a human wizard-y type says an incantation, and suddenly a fireball erupts! Asteria, Wilford, Var, Dušan, Alizar, and Lornak take 17 points of fire damage (DC 17 Reflex save for half).
Reakos remains in his tiefling form, and casts a Magic Missile. Hmerrin takes 2 points of force damage.
The two werewolves (whom I named Hunter and Chase because I found it amusing) seem to get very angry! They advance on Toston and Hmerrin! Hmerrin's readied action goes off. His battleaxe parts Chase's hair, but doesn't quite hit. They swing their greataxes! Hunter misses Toston, but Chase connects with Hmerrin for 9 damage.
The halfling shifts into were-rat form and begins crooning a strange little chant. His teammates seem a trifle more focused.
The archers spread out and fire. One targets Asteria, and hits! Luckily, it is not a critical hit, but Asteria takes 4 damage. The other archer misses Lornak.
Were-rats and rogues flood across the sand toward the Darts.

Asteria wakes up completely pumped for the fight. Donning her breastplate and shield, the barbarian eats a quick breakfast and leaves with her weapons in hand. With a shield in her left hand, her battle axe in her right, and Fluffy the Greataxe on her back, the barbarian is combat ready.
Once arriving at the huge arena, the barbarian starts feeling more anxious. This undoubtedly had to be the biggest place she had ever stood in, and it made her feel small. Psyching herself up, Asteria prepares for this fight. She rather liked Toston's outfit, and the funny looking gold pattern made her feel more at ease. Also thankful for Dusan's spell, the barbarian is as ready as she ever will be for this battle. However, she did find it funny that the announcer mentioned surrender, since it was obvious that the House of Silver wouldn't do that, and they probably wouldn't let this group do that either.
The words "FIGHT" are uttered, and everything just moves so fast. The barbarian gets hit by just about everything. And that makes Asteria a very mad barbarian. Moving up with Toston and Hmerrin, Asteria slashes at Hunter with her Battleaxe. Unfortunately, her attack isn't the best.

Seeing the werewolves move in against the fighters, Var lines up a shot on Hunter. The shot is nearly perfect, except that the silver arrow pushes straight through the beast, causing only minimal damage (26 vs. AC; 3 damage)

Wil cowers as the fireball hits him but stands up surprised as the pain dissipates and Cicero takes the full impact of the shot. "Wow, for an apparition you are remarkable," Cicero grumbles and disappears. Wil moves to the left and squares up against the mass of were rats in front of the group. He picks out a single rat on the left side and fires a silver bolt. (17(Blessed) vs. AC; 2 damage) "Have our minon attack the others. We can advance and take on the major characters. We could also use them as a kind of shield." Wil shouts to the others. (OOC: Not sure how working with our NPCs works.. via the map.)

Lornak senses seem to be keen as a giant ball of fire comes flying towards the company. He has just enough time to throw himself diagonally to avoid the brunt of the attack but still gets a little singed. (Reflex d20=19 play acting held move action from previous post). "This is going to be short if he does...!" Lornak answers back to Var.
Lornak sees a clear line of fire to Chase and lets loose the bolt(silver) from his crossbow in an effort cover the gap in Hmerrin's side of the front line. (Attack Action d20=24, 6 dmg).
"Wererats are the order of the day!" Lornak says, ready to take on the next polymorgh. He loads another silver bolt into his crossbow. (Move action.) Lornak goes back into is defensive stance.
OOC-I don't know what modifiers are added to damage for the bolt being silver.

Alizar felt the heat that preceded the fireball, but everything kicked off so fast, he had no time to react and took e full brunt of the blast. This did not stop him from attempting to dodge to his left however, and as he winced in pain and managed to slap out e last of the Flames licking his sleeves, he used his momentum to shift his position. A quick look around told him that his comrades had not fared much better than he. "Time to work."
Alizar summoned the familiar incantation in his mind, said a silent prayer, and released his will to send a wave of healing energies towards every one of his compatriots. (Channel positive energy - +9 HP to the whole group). Not content to let things stop there, Alizar calls upon his most heroic energy, and channels a second healing burst, once again fortifying all of his allies with additional healing (Channel positive energy - +7 HP to the whole group)

Dušan cried out in pain as the inferno enveloped him. It was almost more than he could handle until Alizar's healing washed over him. He takes a few panicked steps before, realizing he was still alive. Fear gave way to anger and he used that rage to fuel his resolve. (Spend Hero Point for extra action)
The fury burning behind his eyes was tempered by a desire to see this through to the end. He casts Spectral Hand and through this etherial hand the power of the Wold's Blood flowed into the material, empowering Asteria with Bull's Strength.
With grim determination he utters, "Let us pave this ground with their bodies."

Figures spread out. The teen looks over the field, and gives Chase a look. "Looks like its you and me, Big Guy," he notes conversationally.
And then strikes, swinging his battleaxe high and following with a dagger to the midsection.

Rogue Wilford is able to avoid the fireball damage altogether! He singles out one of the advancing wererats and sinks a silver bolt into it. [OOC: The intent is for the Dart NPCs and the low-level House of Silver fighters to kind of cancel each other out. They don't have to, of course; you can attack any opponent you want to. I'll control the Dart NPCs.]
Lornak htis Chase with a silver arrow. [OOC: Silver doesn't add to the damage, but it does overcome the natural Damage Resistance that lycanthropes have. If you weren't using silver, you'd be doing less damage.]
Alizar channels positive energy to heal his allies.
Dušan uses a Spectral Hand to give Asteria Bull's Strength.
Hmerrin slices up Chase!
The Darts move forward to engage the were-rats and rogues!
Selene moves up to flank Toston with Hunter, and attacks! She hits! Her claw rakes Toston for 13 points of damage.
Retoen the wizard casts a spell, and suddenly there are 6 Retoens standing in that square! Some of them are undoubtedly illusions, but which one should you smack?
Hunter attacks Toston, but even in flank the little monk is just too nimble!
Chase attacks Hmerrin and hits! Hmerrin takes 11 damage.
Still singing, the bard moves forward to sling a stone at Toston, but misses.
The archers fan out. One targets Wilford, but misses badly. The other aims for Lornak, and hits! Lornak takes 8 points of damage.
And I almost forgot Reakos! Giggling, he moves forward. He points to Asteria and casts a spell. It is cause fear; I'll let you look it up. :) Asteria is Frightened unless she can succeed at a DC 12 Will save!
The were-rats and rogues move forward to engage the Darts!

Adrenaline courses through Lornak's body as the pre fight jitters subside. Lornak's body is ready to react to whatever the battle requires. He attempts to intimidate his enemies with a battlecry. (free action intimidate d20=8) ..."YeaaaaHaa?!"
Conditional move and attack actions. Both move actions will require an Acrobatics check to avoid enemy attacks of opportunity:
Lornak takes a cue from Toston and gets physical. He nimbly moves into melee range and brandishes his rapier with his open hand. (Acrobatics d20=16)
If Asteria succeeds in making her fear check and holds the line, Lornak will take a move action to get next to Hmerrin and melee attack to Aid Another giving him a +2 to his next attack on Chase. (Attack Action to Aid Another d20=14)
If Asteria fails her fear check and runs off frightened, Lornak will take a move action to take her place in the line and strike out at Hunter with a melee attack. (Attack Action d20=17, 7dmg)

Momentarily shifting focus, Alizar zeroes in on Lysander. It's a high risk, high reward scenario, but it just might be worth it. Alizar reached down into her resevoir of power, and uttered the incantation, then released his will. With the silence spell centered on Lysander, Alizar hoped to catch the nearby spell casters as well.

Dušan watched Toston dance around the creatures attacks. Unfortunately Hmerrin did not seem to be fairing as well. Dušan moves the phantom hand to the young fighter and casts Barkskin on Hmerrin. Asteria, once heavily damaged, now found herself back into the clear. Added to this healing was newfound power, the familiar and friendly spell called Bull's Strength. With all of this strength, Reakos's spell does nothing. Asteria simply laughs it off. (Will Save 14 vs 12)

Reakos moves up to catch Hmerrin and Lornak in a Burning Hands! They take 4 points of fire damage, DC 12 Reflex save for half.

Reaching into himself for another channel of positive energy, Alizar let the healing energies flow over his comrades, hoping he might last one more round before falling himself.

Lornak hears the familiar crash of fire explode behind him. Checking if his friends are wanton for aid, he chances a glance behind him. None of his comrades have fallen but clearly that hit took its toll.
Turning back he notices that he himself is a little singed but not from the mage. "If its not pouring its raining!" He says as he looses the bolt(silver) held in his crossbow at Chase, point-blank range. (Attack Action d20=22, 6 dmg)
With fluid motion Lornak quickly stows his rapier and grabs his Barkskin potion (Move Action) and then downs it's contents. (Free action)
Lornak can feel the scar tissue of his tattoo's become very sensitive all of a sudden as they pulse with a low warmth. His skin then begins to grow a bit and harden. Did he hear a tightening sound? He can't tell over the battle sounds.

Hmerrin rolls away from Chase's blow, as the werewolf isn't the only one figuring out his opponent.
The brown haired fighter notes Reakos' approach, and is able to twist away from the brunt of the flames. That, plus Alizar's healing spell, helps keep the young man in pretty good shape.
He tries a new set of moves, and is able to get his battleaxe on target, although his awesome knife attack fails miserably.

Asteria was not fortunate enough to escape the fire's deadly blast, but a quick healing pulse from Alizar got her back into fighting condition. However, that fire was really starting to get on her nerves, and the barbarian wanted nothing more than to slash up Retoen. She had to get through Hunter first, and that was going to be a problem with her current luck. Thankfully, luck finally was on her side, and she manages to get one decent hit on Hunter.

Asteria comes close to falling from Hunter's strong attack, but managed to pull herself back together from Alizar's healing. Maybe about now was a good time to rage, but a tired barbarian in battle was never good. Instead, she takes a swing at Hunter again and lands a VERY solid hit. Probably the best so far, and the best she was going to get.

Dušan sees a lot of magic across the battlefield. He misses what reteon casts, but recognizes Lysander's spell as weaker version of what Alizar was currently casting him. Feeling almost as new he smiles his thanks to Alizar. "I'm glad your healing is better than theirs."
Feeling much more himself, Dušan asses the frontline. His allies seemed to be holding their own, but he realized that Asteria still lacked any magical armor. Dušan maneuvers his spectral hand to her and once again finds a strong connection to the Wold's Blood. The power flows through the spectral hand and powers his casting of Barkskin.

The Darts (whom I totally forgot last round) continue working on the rogues and rats. One of the were-rats goes down, victim of a wicked critical hit! One of the rogues also falls!
Selene points a clawed finger at Asteria. A sickly green ray twists toward the barbarian, and hits! Asteria takes a 6-point penalty to her Strength score! If she succeeds at a DC 13 Fortitude save, she only takes a 3-point penalty to her Strength score.
The wizard Retoen conjures up a Flaming Sphere, right where Hmerrin is standing! Hmerrin takes 16 points of fire damage, although a DC 16 Reflex save will negate it entirely (not half damage).
Reakos steps up to Lornak and bites him! If Lornak hadn't taken that Barkskin potion, he'd be saving against Lycanthropy now! As it is, Reakos misses.
The bard Lysander steps back and slings a stone at Toston, which misses.

Alizar shifted his position to keep gain a better view of the fight. Things were not going terribly, but were not going terribly well either. At least they still drew breath. Alizar reached down inside himself, pulled forth his magical energies, and released a wave of positive energy, healing all of his allies.

Lornak, realizing he is perhaps in over his head, takes a couple of frantic swipes at Chase, but misses.
Toston continues to flurry Hunter, and lands another blow. He can tell that Hunter is hurt, but he can also tell that the raging werewolf barbarian still has plenty of fight left in him.
Dušan casts Scare on Chase. The werewolf turns and flees to the far side of the arena, provoking Attacks of Opportunity from Hmerrin and Lornak.
Wilford fires back at Ronit, hitting her for a small amount of damage.
The Darts continue to battle the were-rats.
Last round, Wilford had fired a screaming bolt, but the effects are delayed. :) Unfortunately, the only ones who failed their saves are the two were-rats facing off against the Darts on the east side of the battlefield. On the other hand, you used up a bunch of really good DM rolls, if you believe in that kind of thing. :)
Selene sends a couple of Magic Missiles hurtling toward Toston! Toston takes 4 points of force damage.
Retoen moves his Flaming Sphere into Lornak's square! Lornak must succeed at a DC 16 Reflex save or take 6 points of fire damage. (A successful save negates the damage altogether; no half damage.)
Chase continues to cower agains the far side of the Arena. The crowds boo and throw things at him.
Hunter 5-foots out of flank and attacks Hmerrin. He hits! Hmerrin takes 7 damage.
Laughing maniacally, Reakos tries another bite. He misses.

Lornak sees an energy hit Chase and takes full advantage of the creatures reaction to it by driving again with his silver dagger. (Attack of opportunity d20=18, 3 dmg).
As the werewolf moves off a massive ball of fire rushes up to take its place. Lornak does his best to avoid its flames... (Reflex save Flaming Sphere d20=16) ... but just is not fast enough. The fire eats away parts of his tunic and singes his flesh. He cannot help but react by swiftly stepping away from the fire. (Move action 5-foot step).
Recovering his balance he fires the silver bolt in his crossbow at Reakos. (Attack Action d20=16). He doesn't feel confident that his aim was good enough.

Dušan cringes as Asteria and Wilford get hit by an arrows. He'll aid Wilford as soon as he can, but he is already in position to increase Asteria's armor. Many consider the Bloodwitch an affront to Gargul, Dušan disagrees with this view. He sees his constant exposure to the Shadow Realm gives a certain kinship to the Eyes of Gargul. He draws upon this faith says a little prayer in celstial, casting Shield of Faith on Asteria. *In Celestial* "Eternal Gargul. In the end we are all yours, but if it be within your Glory, shield Asteria so that she might lend me aid in furthering your will."

Alizar moved forward. "Time to try something new!" Alizar laid his hands on Asteria, and brought forth some of his stored protection magics. With the words of power uttered, he cast 'Sanctuary' on Asteria, in hopes to shield her from some attack.

(O.O.C. Any opponent attempting to directly attack the warded creature, even with a targeted spell, must attempt a Will save. If the save succeeds, the opponent can attack normally and is unaffected by that casting of the spell. Asteria gets hit by just about everything, and comes close to falling. If it wasn't for Alizar's healing, she would be down right now. The barbarian takes a deep breath, and almost begins her fight again, but is stopped by Alizar's spell. She has just enough sense not to fight while the spell is over her, and instead chooses to do something different.
Not the best of ideas, but it was time to strike back. Asteria sheaths her battle axe and looses her shield. It was time for this, but they needed bigger weapons to take down these fiends. She draws her new weapon and prepares to fight.

Wilford fires a shot at Retoen, but misses.
Dušan casts a spell to help protect Asteria. Alizar goes him one better, and casts a Sanctuary.
Hmerrin misses his attack of opportunity on Chase, but does not miss Hunter--and now the barbarian werewolf is starting to look pretty hurt.
Asteria, realizing she'll break Alizar's spell if she attacks, chooses instead to change weapons.
The Darts take out another were-rat.
Selene moves up to swipe at Wilford. She hits! Wilford takes 15 points damage.
Retoen sends his Flaming Sphere into Hmerrin's square again! Hmerrin takes 8 points of fire damage; DC 16 Reflex save negates.
Reakos moves up to bite Lornak again, but misses.
Chase continues to cower.
Hunter swings his greataxe at Hmerrin, and connects! Hmerrin takes 13 damage.

Var watches the battle churn as the tides of magic and steel wax and wane, their front line was beginning to waver. The were-bard nearly catches Var in this moment of revelry, but Var neatly dodges the stone flung at him. before him, Selene cuts deeply into Wilford, Var responds with a quick bolt of healing energy (+4 HP for Wil). Seeing his need on the front line, Var takes a 30ft long circling path around Selene's reach, drawing one of his masterwork handaxes as he goes, dropping into a flank on Selene.
"I'm gettin' real tired of you and your kind, woman...!" Var snarls at her.

The flaming sphere rolls into Hmerrin's side too quickly to react, and in the course of reacting anyway, the teen walks right into a roundhouse blow from the werewolf.
The brown haired fighter is rocked. Burnt, bleeding, and battered, he screams out "ALIZAR!!" ,both a war cry and a plea for help.
Hmerrin then launches into Hunter is a desperate attempt to finish off the werewolf.

Lornak is fearful of engaging Reakos head to head but what choice does he have? This fight started with the odds against them, nothing was going to change that now. All he can hope for is to work together with his comrades and fight alongside them until the bitter end.
Lornak sees that its his responsibility to protect Alizar and Dusan from Reakos and takes the fight him. "A caged animal." He maneuvers for a better angle of attack. (Move Action-Five Foot step)

Toston attacks Retoen! His attack would hit, but there are 6 Retoens in that square. After Toston's attack, there are 5 Retoens in that square, but unfortunately none of them are injured. Toston has popped one of the Mirror Images. [OOC: If you want to keep attacking, you can roll to see if you hit the real guy, or I can do it. A 1 means you hit the real guy. Well, except we don't have a d5, so roll a d10, and a 1 or 2 means you hit the real guy.]
Hmerrin, in desperate straits, launches a wild attack on Hunter. He connects, but the barbarian werewolf doesn't quite go down! And then! Asteria steps up, swings her axe, and connects! And even without a silver weapon, it's enough damage to take down Hunter!
Lornak hangs tough against Reakos, stabbing at him with a dagger. He just misses.
Wilford fires a silver bolt at Selene, and hits! It doesn't do a lot of damage, but it's the first damage she's taken so far, so progress! [OOC: A minute is 10 rounds; you've got quite a bit left.]
Alizar heals Hmerrin.
The lone remaining Dart on the west side of the battlefield opts for a strategic retreat, moving toward his friends. It's probably a good strategic move, but it means the were-rats and remaining rogue on that side are now unengaged. On the east side, the three remaining Darts make short work of the last were-rat on that side, then move to engage Lysander.
Selene 5-foots out of flank and attacks Var. She hits! Var takes 10 points of damage.
Retoen casts a spell defensively, so as not to provoke. Electricity crackles between his fingers as he reaches for Toston, but a 9 is not going to hit a monk's touch AC. He rolls his Flaming Sphere toward one of the Darts, who eludes it easily.
Reakos wags a finger at Lornak's knife. "Naughty, naughty!" he says, and giggles. "Now there's a penalty!" A black misasma swirls around his hand as he reaches out for Lornak, but misses.
Chase continues to cower. Hunter is down.
Both archers target Toston, with no success.
The remaining were-rats and rogue fall back to re-group.

As Lornak recovers from his dagger strike he sees a black ball of something materialize in Reakos's hand. He reacts with a move to feint a wild attack against it. (Standard Action Bluff d20=26). He's not sure if he successfully deceived Reakos but the shapeshifter's attack seemed to miss him. "Praise Triial for small miracles."
A tingling sensation then suddenly strikes Lornak's nerve endings. His movements feel more direct, focused. He would describe them as; lithe. He assumes what he feels is the consequence of a spell Dusan has cast on him. He's not a fan of magic but he had to admit, whatever this was, it made him feel pretty good.
Taking a cue from Hmerrin, Lornak gratefully joins him in his toil. He prepares for his next attack strategy by stowing his silver dagger. (Move Action)

Wil runs around Var, to avoid Selene and charges the wizard Retoens. He screams to build up as much Intimidation as he can but he feels the wizard laughing at him. (Intimate: 11) Just before he tackles one of the copies of the wizard Wil stops, grabs a handful of sand, and spreads it over as many as he can. This leaves him behind the wizard. He prepares for a retaliation, else he readys an Adamatine bolt, which he should have done before.

Hmerrin, buoyed by the healing, steps up to Reakos, and takes him down with two decisive chops of his axe!
Dušan casts Cat's Grace on Lornak, who sheathes his dagger and prepares for the next opponent.
Wilford suddenly barrels toward Retoen in a madman charge! Startled, the wizard looks around as if trying to find an escape--although he doesn't seem especially intimidated. Wilford flings a handful of sand over the wizard and his copies. For a moment, it is clear which one is the real deal and which are copies, but soon the dust settles, the images all shift around, and it is once again unclear which is which.
The Darts surround Lysander. Four rapiers flash, and the were-rat bard is bleeding badly.
"You!" Selene points to where the were-rats and rogue stand uncertainly. "Protect the wizard!" She turns to take another slash at Var, and hits! Var takes 10 points of damage.
"Yeah, protect the wizard," Retoen mutters. Then, so low only Wilford can hear, he adds, "they're not paying me enough for this." He steps to one side and casts a spell, casting defensively so as not to provoke an Attack of Opportunity. A cone of clashing colors, angled to avoid hitting his archer ally, surgess toward Toston and Wilford! Toston and Wilford must succeed at a DC 14 Will save or be blinded and stunned for 3 rounds.
Chase continues to cower. [OOC: I've lost track, does the spell expire this round or next?]
The archers target Toston and Var. Both hit! Toston takes 10 damage; Var takes 3 damage.
The were-rats and rogues double-move, circling the combat to get in position to help Retoen.

Chase shakes off the effects of the fear and turns, snarling to one of the Darts.
The archers target Alizar, and both hit! Alizar takes 13 damage from two arrows.

Var looks down at his savaged chest, blood leaking from every gouge in his armor from Selene's wicked claws. His pulse becomes like the pounding of a hundred horses across the planes of Izen, and the fury within him begin to build. The healing from Alizar stops Var from bleeding out entirely, and Var uses his wand again on himself (+9 HP).
Letting out a choked breath, Var calls out "Asteria! I can't hold her off for much longer!", then over his shoulder to Alizar he says "Get back, this is gonna get ugly." Stepping quickly to his left, he sets himself up for a pincer attack on Selene.
(OoC: Just so the math checks out, I was at 14 HP, Alizar healed me for 13, bringing me to 27. Selene hit me for 23, bringing me down to 4, and I healed my self back up to 13)

A ball of fire flies at Lornak and erupts. Caught off guard, the flames lick his armor and flesh. Lornak stumbles sideways. "Gah, this is starting to hurt..." Lornak says. The adrenaline surges through his body but even though it is at its height, Lornak is starting to feel his injuries. When there is pain, there is also clarity.
Their left flank is getting pounded. As he realizes this he sees Var and Alizar falter. Confident that Hmerrin will retake the battle initiative, Lornak decides to bolster that side.
He swiftly maneuvers himself towards them and places himself between Alizar and Selene and raises his buckler in defense of his comrade. As he moves he stows his dagger and draws a vial of Cure Light Wounds and holds it where Alizar can reach it. "Drink this my friend. Quickly!"

Alizar was completely unaware of what had happened. One moment he was healing Var, the next moment it felt like he had been punched in the chest, twice, incredibly hard. The world was spinning, and the moment ofter that, the world seemed to right itself to the image of Lornak holding out a vial of healing potion at him. He reached for the potion and drank it, and suddenly, it was like the last few moments had not even happened. "Now I ow YOU guys one", he said with a smile, and hurried out of the line of fire.

After the brutal attacks, Var is hanging by a thread. He uses his wand to bolster himself a bit.
Lornak steps back, assesses the situation, and decides he's needed on the other flank. As he moves, he draws a potion and hands it off to Alizar. [OOC: you didn't need to spend the Hero Point; you can convert your Standard action to a Move action and get all of that done in a regular turn.]
Dušan heals Alizar, who also drinks Lornak's healing potion and feels much better.
Toston flurries at the wizard, succeeding in popping two of the images. Now there are three of him.
Hmerrin moves up and taunts Selene while opening up a gash in her side.
Wilford fires a crossbow bolt at the wizard. The good news is, he hit the real guy and not an image. The bad news is that the wizard had cast Protection from Arrows earlier in the fight, and the bolt does no damage. [OOC: Adamantine is good for overcoming hardness and it is expensive! It's probably best not to squander adamantine ammo if you don't have to.]
Asteria steps up to join the fight against Selene, and deals more damage.
The Darts gang up on one of the were-rats and manage to take it out.
Selene smiles at Hmerrin. "I've a better idea," she says. "Perhaps you should join our House." And she leans in to bite! She hits! Hmerrin takes 15 points of damage, and must succeed at a DC 15 Fortitude save or turn furry when the moon is full!
The wizard hesitates, all three copies of him looking at Wilford. He gestures, and the Flaming Sphere winks out. Spellcraft DC 17 Highlight to display spoiler: {It was probably just about expired anyway, but he did dismiss it, and spent his Standard action doing it.}
Hunter opens up a huge gash in one of the Darts; the man is barely staying on his feet.
The archers target Asteria, and both hit! She takes 18 total damage.
The remaining were-rat and rogue flail ineffectually at one of the Darts.

He shifted his position back to stay in cover, and concentrated more healing energy into his core. When released, it came out in a bit of a sputter, the toll of this fight must be starting to weigh on him. "It's ok, happens to everyone at some point or another", he told himself reassuringly.

Alas, it is not enough! Hmerrin fails his save, and also fails to understand the significance. Anyway, he has more important things to worry about at the moment. He slashes Selene again, who is beginning to look hurt.
Lornak hits Selene with a silver crossbow bolt, doing more damage.
Asteria hits Selene, but since she is not using silver, the blow does not do as much damage.
The Darts are woefully ineffective this round.

Alizar shifted up towards Hmerrin's position. That bite looked pretty nasty, and if Alizar was right, (Knowledge: Arcana - 23) they were going to have a whole lot bigger problems after the fight was over, but they would need to cross that bridge when they got to it, IF they got to it. Alizar placed his hands on the fighter's back, and channeled what healing power he had left into his body.

Lornak then begins to falter. His vision blurs and his motions become slower. His mind passes the test of being found willing. He finds himself bound and determined to fight on. "But will my body let me?" He says.

Seeing that Retoen the wizard has effectively taken himself out of combat, Wilford tries a shot at Chase, which doesn't connect. Toston changes weapons.
Hmerrin hits Selene again, hard enough to make her stagger. Asteria follows with a strike of her own. Even without a silvered weapon, the barbarian does enough damage. Selene drops to the sand.
Dušan casts a spell on Mai. She staggers, and her eyes lose focus.
The remaining Dart takes out the remaining House of Silver rogue.
With Selene down, Retoen gives up all pretense of participating in the fight. "I surrender!" he says. He holds up his hands and kneels.
Chase moves to attack Toston, and seems surprised when his mighty greataxe blow does not connect with the nimble monk.

He watches as the blood of the lacerations coagulate under his fingers and marvels as the open wounds seal themselves. The pain he felt before becomes a dull ache and he is able to focus a little better. He sees Wil wave off the attacks against the mage and hears Var and Alizar plead with the archers to surrender.
Suspicious as always, he quickly reloads his crossbow and aims it a Chase (move Action). As his group convinces the tertiary combatants to surrender he does not believe a true member of the House of Silver to possess any such reservations. He keeps an eye on Chase and will answer his next move appropriately.
Held Action to fire the silver bolt at Chase if he continues to attack. Ignore attack roll if Chase surrenders.(Attack Action 18, 5 dmg)

Ronit steps to the far side of the arena, stows her bow, and puts two hands on the hilt of the falchion she drew last round. She does not attack, but she is not surrendering either. Mai draws her own falchion and joins her.

If the were-rat, like Chase, wishes to go down with the ship, Lornak will oblige him.
"Have we won...?" Lornak asks himself. He looks around the stands on the look out for more treachery from the House of Silver. He is also keen to see who might be cheering for them.

When even the healer starts shooting at you, it's time to give up. The last were-rat surrenders.
A gong sounds from one side of the Arena. "The mercenary company are the victors!" a loud voice calls. "The House of Silver is hereby exiled from Dirt City, and their goods are forfeit. Fifteen minutes."
You're not sure what that last bit means, but it seems to be a signal of sorts. Workmen enter the Arena and begin efficiently stripping corpses, setting the gear into a pile.
Dušan is able to stabilize three of the eight Darts. The archer Ronit and the bard Lysander still seem to be breathing as well; the others from the House of Silver are dead.
And you have three prisoners.

In any event he casts Detect Magic on the growing pile the workmen were forming paying particular attention to anything from Selene, Reakos and Lysander.

With the battle at an end, Alizar looked around at the carnage around him. "Senseless", he said to no one in particular, and then move to see if anyone could be saved. Once that was done, Alziar silently fell in with his crew as they left the arena.

Lornak lowers his crossbow after a loud gong echoes through the arena. A voice declares in so many words that the Crescent Moon Trading Company has been victorious. Upon hearing this Lornak takes in a huge breath of relief and lets it out slowly. "That was a close one..." He says.
Nursing his wounds he sees he is not the only one hurting. He stows his weapons and helps his friends as they attend the injured. (Heal d20=11 to aid another) In his mind the words "Fifteen Minutes" seem ominous. As he works he tests his knowledge about conduct in the arena concerning winning, forfeiture and what happens after but has a feeling that the group needs to vacate the killing field post haste.(Knowledge[local] d20=10)
He tries to bring his spirits up by cracking joke "House of Silver was awful bitey..." but stops short. Something about Lyconthropy scratches at his mind.

Asteria looks around to see that the majority of the House of Silver were not getting up from where they lay. It had not been her intention to kill, but they would have done the same. They probably weren't even good people. Following Hmerrin's lead, she goes to retrieve her Battleaxe and Shield from where they lay, storing the items.
"Now what?"

Wilford asks the wizard how he got into this, asking whether the man's wife has been kidnapped. Sense Motive 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { For a moment, he is seriously tempted to lie.} He sighs. "I'm not married," he says. "No, it was just money. Just, 'here, help us with this little problem and there's a healthy reward in it for you.'" Toston listens intently.
Dušan wonders who the House of Silver forfeits their goods to, while Hmerrin and Asteria generally wonder what's next, and Lornak frets about what will happen in 15 minutes.
Those questions are answered pretty soon. The Darts claim their fallen, but the other corpses are effeciently stripped and dragged out of the Arena. Your prisoners are relieved of their valuables, and the whole mass of loot is presented to you as more workmen begin going over the Arena sands with shovels and rakes, turning the blood under and preparing for the next bout.
"Shift along," one of them calls to you when the 15 minutes are nearly up. "Next bout's starting in a minute, whether you're still here or not. Get your stuff and go. And you lot," he adds to the prisoners. "Clear off! You got until sundown to get out of town."
You can, if you choose, give some of their gear back to the ones who surrendered, or you can keep it all. But whatever you choose, you'll need to leave the Arena.

Var gives the arena one last look and raises his fist in victory before striding out with an armful of loot. On the way out, he asks the still-conscious archer Mai if they were apart of the House of Silver proper, or hired mercs (Sense motive: 7).
In whatever passes for the Arena's locker room he gives the group a wolfish grin and congratulates everyone, especially Hmerrin and Lornak for tangling with the lycanthropes in hand to hand combat. Var gives Hmerrin's bite wound a quick look, as well (Heal: 12) to check for infection.

He feels the excitement of the crowd and dwells on the rush of adrenaline. He has been a solo merc for so long. Now everyone in Dirt City has seen what this merry group can do. He begins to skip out of the arena which is really funny to see since he is a bit of a strange, depressing-looking, fellow in his large black Gargul cloak and hood.

He makes his own revelry by closing his eyes and imagining himself a gladiator from Colosseum battles of old, cheers erupting from the stands... His thoughts are jostled by the workmen tilling the bloodstains into the sand.
Lornak becomes concerned for those that were hired to fight. They are losing a lot for being involved. "You three." He points to the prisoners. "Take only your weapons, you will need them in exile." He then grabs what he can carry and joins his comrades as they leave the arena.
A twinkle emerges in his eye as he shares the victory. He accepts Var's praise and says to him; "Thank you, it got a little hairy." with a smile.
He watches as Var tends to the bite mark Hmerrin received and again something about that mark that nags at him. He tests his knowledge about were bites and what possible symptoms may occur accruing them. (Knowledge[nature] d20=15)

Toton strikes a triumphant pose in his gold wyrmling regalia. He then says to Rotoen, "Take this 18 gold and book passage to Plateau City. You were only paid to fight for the wrong side and realized it. Hopefully you will have better luck in Plateau City."
(OOC: Plateau City is 180 miles from Dirt City and passage is 1 silver piece per mile so 18 gold pieces to get to Plateua)

Dušan continues to focus Detect Magic on the items salvaged from the defeated. He helps carry whatever items he can, but makes sure that anything with magic comes with the group. He turns and surveys the crowd one last time before leaving the Arena. He never thought he would be victorious in an arena combat and really did not want to make a habit of it, but he did want to remember the situation all the same. Smiling to his friends, he joins them and walks triumphantly from the view of the spectators.

You gather your loot, and your defeated opponents, and make your way off of the Arena floor.
Just to clarify, Retoen the wizard was the only actual "hired gun." All the others were members of the House of Silver, although the archers are not lycanthropes. If I'm reading right, you're letting Retoen retain his daggers? And what about the archers? Those masterwork composite +2 Strength longbows are theirs, and I think there was some interest in the party for them, so are you giving them back or keeping them? The were-rat is not a problem; his loot was not actually included on the list. :)
Var checks Hmerrin's wound; it does not look infected.
Boggs comes rushing up to congratulate you. "It was close there for a while," he says, looking relieved. "I'm glad you made it through. Let's get out of here."

Var is willing to let Retoen keep some coin and something to defend himself with, the rest of the House of Silver, however, he simply wants gone.
When Boggs suggests leaving the Arena, Var agrees, "I think we could all use a drink."

Lornak walks with the group behind Boggs. He is glad to see the man's face and gladder still to take his leave of this horrible place. His steps are labored and he nurses his upper arm.
"Indeed." Lornak replies to Var. "I suspect any draught consumed this day will taste sweeter than any drank in my life."

Alizar was happy to get out of the arena, and his heart warmed a little bit as he watched his compatriots help those in need, even though they were trying to kill them a short time ago. He took a look at Hmerrin's bite as well and tried to think of a treatment plan.

Hmerrin battle euphoria fades, and the lad is pensive as he moves with the group back to the holding area.
He smiles a bit at the assistance of Var and Lornak. As they walk out, he glances back at the workmen turning over the blooded sand.
"I just gotta say, boss," he notes softly, falling into step with Boggs. "Your town's justice system stinks."

Wil changes his opinion on the wizard and tells the others that we should strip the mercenary of all his weapons. "This man could be paid to come after us again." I don't have the skillset for the bows and I can't handle a wand. I would like to take the Invisible spells, elixir of hiding, potions of cure moderate wounds, potion of divine favor (2) and some Studded Leather armor. I believe I am going to be taking some more shots because I can do more good with a little deception and darkness. I don't want to stunt my movement though." He smiles when Var mentions a drink. "I could use many drinks."

Dušan grabs the wands and any other unclaimed loot that needs carrying. He offers the wands to any others who can use them, "Or I can hold onto them while people learn, but I could use an offensive spell." Dušan then eagerly follows any that go for libations.

Asteria agrees with Var that Retoen can keep his weapon. After all, he just needed the money. Kinda like how she herself was. It wouldn't be proper to leave him with nothing. Before she leaves, Asteria wishes the mage the best of luck on his journeys. Then, she goes to join the rest of the group and helps with the carrying of loot.
