As you leave the Arena, Toston stops to change, and Var suggests that the group could use a drink. Lornak heartily concurs.
Alizar pauses to check Hmerrin's wound. It does not seem infected; there is no sign of disease. It will probably heal just fine. But Alizar is well aware that that is not the entire story. Hmerrin was bitten by a were-tiger, which means he's in danger getting all stripey and bitey when the moon is full. That's several days from now.
"I just gotta say, boss," Hmerrin says, "your town's justice system stinks."
Boggs snorts. "Well, it does now. It didn't always. For a time, under Kent, things were almost fair. Then he died, and it's been downhill ever since."
Wilford doesn't want to give the wizard his daggers, but he is overruled by the rest of the group.
Dušan and Asteria heartily endorse the "let's get a drink" plan, and help carry loot.
You end up jammed into a little halfling-run place on Garotte Sewer in the City Below. There's not a lot of elbow room, but the drinks are good and the food is better.
"In addition to all the stuff you picked up at the Arena," Boggs says, "you also get the title to a building in the Backstab Quarter, rather optimistically called the 'Tower of Silver,' along with everything inside. When you've rested up a bit, we should take a look at it."

To the group Var says "Whats all this 'Mercenary Company' nonsense about, anyway? We're no mercs..." Var pauses as he looks around the table, "Well at least, I'm not. We ought to have a proper name for ourselves, let the people know we're around to help 'em."
"Now I know we've worked real hard at keeping ourselves as low to the ground as possible, but the way I figure is, the Houses are gonna know about us now. Merchant's Guild knows 'bout us; Darts know 'bout us; Knives know 'bout us. Won't be long 'fore Teeth and Wolves and Keys and Cloaks know 'bout us." Var pauses to take a swig of his ale before continuing "Course, that assumes the Cloaks don't already know all 'bout us."

After shrugging off his flight reflexes, he supposes Var is right. "It would be nice not to have to balance what's we need to do with what we can be seen doing."

The gnome has returned to his more nondescript outfit with the WLA pin on the inside.
"I mean we were just down in the records as Mercenary company whatever and yeah those Silver thugs caused a bit of trouble with the whole fake haunting and assassination attempt but that devolved into a street fight that resulted in a judge sentencing to arena combat. That judge seemed like she could hardly care more and the arena was hardly packed. The House of Silver was a nuisance, but they were minor players in comparison to some of the players in this city. I am not trying to discount us and we did draw a meeting with representatives from the dragon consortium, but it still seems like we could be underestimated. We should still be vigilant but aside from the Darts who Silver picked a fight with, the rest of the houses didn't seem to give one iota about Silver."

Lornak raises his tankard of ale and his mouth waters a bit as he eyes the foam. He knocks back a swig. To Lornak it tastes like victory. He knocks back another and dives into his meal. He drinks and dines with relief and savors it all. His companions propose toasts and he joins them. He lets his guard down and forgets his concerns for the time being. He did not believe he would see the end of the Arena in such a manner, he is grateful for his life and his relationship with these people. He sees the inklings of a strong future with them and for the first time since he came to Dirt City envisions a road forward, not doubts keeping him in the past.
When the talk of a company name comes up in the conversation Lornak says; "I prefer to stay inconspicuous especially when eyes are prying. My heart says we need not a name, to let our actions speak for us. But as I do not trust the city at large to do us justice, I do trust you lot to come up with something spectacular!" He smiles and finishes his ale.
Lornak leaves his seat to gather another pint. As he passes Boggs he asks the man a question; "What of the impact of our victory? Will it bring more trouble for us or stave it off for a time?"

"Well, perhaps they should," Boggs replies. "But I doubt they'll see it that way."
Var suggests that the group needs a name. Dušan and Hmerrin agree, but Toston advises caution.
Boggs gives the matter a shrug. "You can name yourselves," he says. "As long as you don't go advertising it, I don't see where it will make a difference. Or you can go on as you've been. Up to you, really."
"What of the impact of our victory?" Lornak asks. "Will it bring more trouble for us or stave it off for a time?"
Boggs sighs. "That is a very good question," he says. "One I don't have an answer for yet. Let's take one thing at a time. Do you want to go take a look at this so-called Tower of Silver?"

The Silver Tower sounds intriguing but continuing to drink and blackguard seems equally satisfying to Lornak at the moment, so long as it is with his companions. Then he thinks about the spoils that could lay inside. Finding wealth there might just put the perfect punctuation to this day.
Lornak turns to Var waving his hand and pointer finger about. "I am not paranoid..." He says and then hesitates. "...alright perhaps a little, I do have Drow ancestry, so who could really blame me, right?"
Lornak takes a swig from his tankard and continues; "Bringing unwanted attention to ourselves nearly got us killed today. You and I are rangers, we enjoy wind in our hair, the sun on our skin and the mystery of undiscovered places. He slaps Var on the shoulder with a smile. "Why shackle ourselves by boasting to the world, Here We Are!?"
He then leans in close. "Do what you like, mate. I will continue to act with impunity. It will protect me and those that we help." He finishes his ale and heads for the door.

After a meal, and a good amount of drink, you make your way Above to see the so-called "Tower of Silver." It isn't a tower so much as an old rooming-house above a long-abandoned storefront. Inside is some unremarkaable furniture, discarded weapons, and a few personal possessions that the former House of Silver didn't think was worth bringing along. There's a reasonably well-equipped kitchen, and some decent curtains and drapes, but the place is essentially empty. It is larger than Marsh House, but not in as good repair; it would probably take some work to make it truly livable.
"Well," Boggs says, "what would you like to do with the place?"
[OOC: So here's the deal with the building. You can keep it, which would mean making repairs and rennovations, etc. Or you can sell it. If you sell it, what we'll do is bring each character up to the appropriate Wealth-by-Level (WBL) as set out in the Pathfinder WBL guidelines. Lornak enjoys the night air as he walks with his companions to the Silver Tower'. His steps are light even though they are a little uneven. As the group starts to explore the building, Lornak checks the structure for traps. The House of Silver was a crafty bunch and he believes them to be sore losers as well. As it may be part of his personality to be untrusting as a rule, he would not put it past the House of Silver to engage in treachery. (Perception d20=26)

That being said, the right path is hardly ever the easiest. I will honor the decision of the group."
Alizar was unsure of this was a good time to bring this up, but it seemed like the best of any that they have had. "I have a more pressing issue for the group, however. We need to find Hmerrin some Wolfsbain, or perhaps a cleric of much higher skill than myself. You may not have noticed in the chaos of the fight, but he was bitten by a changeling. Its a good bet that means he has the curse, and we only have about three days by my estimation to get that taken care of, otherwise it could be permanent."

You wander around, looking at the disused house you've inherited. Lornak spots no traps, although Toston is able to find an overlooked gold piece that must have rolled into a corner.
Dušan detects no magic.
Some of you seem inclined to keep the building; others would like to sell it for some much-needed coin. Perhaps further discussion is warranted.
Alizar brings up an alarming fact: Hmerrin was bitten in the fight and my have contracted the curse of lycanthropy. What, if anything, is the group prepared to do about it?
Boggs frowns. "From what I hear," he says, "wolfsbane is almost as dangerous as the curse itself. You could try the Temple of Wardd, I suppose; they're the most likely place to find a priest."
[OOC: I believe Mike has decided to play Hmerrin as a were-tiger, at least for a while. So we can role-play trying to find a cure for him, but there won't be one available unless Mike changes his mind. :) ]

Lornak takes in the atmosphere of the Tower of Silver' and finds that he appreciates the uniqueness of Marsh House more. He believes that the place should go to those that House of Silver harassed as recompense, but he doesn't know to whom specifically because he only knows the details of these events in passing. The talk of coin for the structure is welcomed fore he has been suffering in that capacity as of late.
The threads of memory that have been playing at the fringes of his mind come into focus about Hmerrin's wound.(Crafting Alchemy d20=16)
"If I recall my flowers and fauna." He addresses Alizar. "Wolfsbane does not cure Lycanthropy and would most certainly poison the young lad. I believe what you need is Belladonna." He closes his eyes and scrunches his his now thinking. "Extract of the berries from Atropa Belladonna." He opens his eyes and says matter of fact; "Which will also poison the young lad, but has the potential to cure Lycanthropy."

Up until about 3 minutes ago, Hmerrin was in a rather happy mood. They'd won a tough fight. His axe-skills had come back in a big way. There'd been an ale or two. Heck, they'd even won a house!

In response to Var's question, Alizar shrugged. "I've seen these types of wounds before, and while it may not look bad now, it will get a whole lot worse." Alizar thought for a moment. The idea of going to the Temple was not exactly enticing. It was not the temple itself, so much as the clerics within its walls. Hesitation played on his face, then resignation. "Well, if the temple is the best option, then that is where we should go."
Taking his mind back to original question. "As for this, "Tower of Silver", I'm in favour for which ever option does the most good for the people of Dirt City."

You wrap up the tour of your new property. "If you want to sell," Boggs says, "I'll make inquiries. I'm afraid I can't help you with the other thing." He shoots a worried glance in Hmerrin's direction. "Although I'll make inquiries about that, too, if you like."
Some of you want to visit the Temple of Wardd to see what help they might be able to offer. There has also been a suggestion to visit Brother Elthorn, but he's probably not strong enough to break the curse.

"The hurdle will be acquiring it. Substances of an illicit nature are not openly traded and I do not think I could cra,..." Lornak notices eyes on him and quickly changes the subject. "...aah trip to the Temple of Wardd sounds the most prudent."

A few more minutes of steady breathing, and the teen is ready to go, albeit a lot quieter than usual.

After some discussion, you decide to take Hmerrin to the Temple of Wardd, in the hopes of finding a cleric willing and able to break the curse.
The Temple of Wardd is not far from the Arena Above. It is a large building that could rival Marsh House in architectural eccentricities. Wardd, of course, is the god of luck and fortune, and many of his clerics believe that planning ahead reveals a lack of faith in their deity. Additions to the original temple have been built periodically, without rhyme or reason, or even blueprints. Several were abruptly curtailed mid-project when the temple ran out of money. The end result is....oddly harmonious. It's almost enough to make a person believe in Wardd's luck.
Wardd isn't the most caring or compassionate of gods, but he's the one most Dirt City dwellers turn to most often. His temple sees many visitors, and today is no exception. You file in, and find yourselves in a large entry chamber. A few ordinary citizens stand about, most of them talking to priests of Wardd. As perhaps befits a god of chance, nobody seems to be in charge, and there doesn't seem to be any kind of system for getting anyone's attention or pleading your case.

"Your drunk Wilford," his mother begins as he struggles to stand. The drink starting to wear off but still causing Wil to struggle. "Mother, don't judge me. That was a battle royale..." "Your father would be disappointed." "My father left this world when I was ten years old. He barely knew me." Wil waits with the others, his eyelids heavy but he hid within the cloak. "Wow, he blurts. "This is a complicated mess of a building. I believe I have been here once before when I was younger. I don't know.. maybe not." Wil then gets into a vocal argument with himself..via Cicero. At the end his mood changes, within seconds "Is that cut, painful?" he asks Hmerrin. "I've never seen the transition to a were-anything. It sounds like it maybe painful." (Knowledge, local: 9)

Since the group is asking a boon for one of their own, Toston finds an space in the temple and deposits his scroll of color spray somewhere appropriate.
"May you aid someone that needs it." Toston says to the scroll as he donates it.
He looks around for a cleric and if he finds one approaches attempting to explain the situation, "Excuse me sir, but one of our own was bitten by a were-tiger. We think he may have been cursed and we were wondering if one from your order may be able to break the curse." The gnome says.(Perception: 27; Diplomacy ; 14)

Dušan reaches into his pouch and Prestidigitates a copper coin that he then proceeds to flip. Only, when he reveals the coin, he cancels the spell causing it to disappear, never revealing heads or tails. At which point he reaches back into his pouch to Prestidigitate a new coin and repeat the process, a somatic ritual of a prayer to Ward, showing him leaving their fates to Ward.

The brown haired fighter has never been to the Temple of Wardd before, and finds it to be rather confusing. He casts his gaze about, quite at a loss.
Fortunately, Toston seems to know what he's doing, and Hmerrin stays within a step of the gnome at all times.

Alizar hated this place, hated seeing people put blind faith into a concept, and letting terrible things happen simply because they felt it was Wardd's will. Alizar's philosophy differed, 'Alemi helps those who helpthemselves', and all that. However, he did his best to keep the look off of his face. (Diplomacy: 9) He got the sense that he was less than successful in his attempts.
(Perception: 23) Alizar looked around to try and find someone who seemed to know the lay of the tower, and might be able to help. "Excuse me, blessing of Wardd be upon you, I require the services of an experienced healer. This case is beyond my abilities and I seem to have found myself at the doors of this temple. Lornak accompanies the group to the temple of Wardd. The libations are starting to wear off and he feels fatigue inch through his body. He really wants to sleep but once again duty calls. He will do all he can to help his friend. As he enters the temple of Wardd he tests his memory about the gods of luck. (Knowledge d20=12)
He may not know the ways here yet but he does like the decor and as he goes about admiring its uniqueness observes and absorbs as much as he can in order to blend in. (Perception d20=23).

Many of you are a bit of a loss inside the Temple of Wardd. Alizar in particular would rather be just about anywhere else, Lornak is exhausted, and Asteria feels truly out of her element.
But, as Wilford struggles with his inner demons--or rather, ghosts--and Hmerrin frets, Toston and Dušan are able to flag down an acolyte and state their request.
"A bite, you say? Interesting." The acolyte is a tall, thin fellow with sandy brown hair and watery gray eyes. "May I?" He examines Hmerrin's bite for a while. It's hard to say what he's looking at; Alizar in particular knows perfectly well that you can't etll anything from just looking at a lycanthrope bite, but perhaps the acolyte feels the need to check this out for himself.
"Not sure what to do for that," he says frankly. "Hey Tom!" he shouts across the room in a manner that would be completely inappropriate in most temples. "Whaddaya do for a were-tiger bite?" An older priest, short, stocky, and bald, turns toward you with a startled expression. He frowns and heads over to you. "You don't do anything," he says gruffly. "This requires powerful counter-magic. I'll wager only the High Priest himself can do aught for the lad."
The older priest looks at you. "He's not apt to cast for nothing," he warns you. "He'll want a donation. Prob'ly in the hundreds. Can you pay your shot?"
On being told that you can, indeed, afford to make such a donation, he asks you to wait while he goes to fetch the High Priest. You wait for what seems like an eternity, until finally he returns, leading a tall, broad-shouldered human man with iron-gray hair. "High Priest Bulgan Xan," he says with a brisk nod. "I understand you need a curse broken." You explain the situation. "Yes," he says. "I believe that I am strong enough in Wardd's sight to break this curse. As chance would have it, I don't have that particular spell prepared today." He shows you a crooked half-smile. "Wardd's luck comes and goes, you see. You'll have to come back tomorrow. And I'll want a donation. At least 350 gold, though you can go double or nothing if you're feeling lucky. Agreed?"

Lornak wonders if the gold that the priest wants for his "blessing" can even be coughed up by the group. He was broke and he had no knowledge when the spoils of their arena victory would manifest themselves. Could they even gather that much gold in a days time?
Lornak listens to the interchange between Toston and the Priest and offers up his own bit of luck to the conversation. Lornak leans and waves over Var and Asteria in an effort to inform them whats taking place. He speaks to be overhead and feign that he has knowledge of Wardd's luck by testing his own. (Bluff d20=16)
"Doubling down would draw attention from Wardd which would increase the odds of a successful cure."

The lad turns to go. On the way out, he takes another look around the temple, with the idea of perhaps bartering for the use of his carpentry skills instead of gold at their next meeting.

Asteria is also apposed to gambling. Though nice in concept, she would prefer to keep as much money in her pocket as possible. If the others agree, she won't complain, but she doesn't advise it.

The High Priest does not seem at all offended by Wilford's outburst. "Perhaps all of this will make more sense when you've sobered up," is all he says.
Since some of you are curious, he explains in more detail. The cost of the casting is 350 gold. If you like, you can wager on a single throw of the dice, or a single hand of cards. If you win, you pay nothing. If you lose, you pay 700 gold. The odds are exactly 50-50.
In game mechanic terms, if you decide to gamble, I'll have one player roll a d20, opposed by the High Priest's d20 roll. The d20 rolls will represent either a dice game or a card game; it really doesn't matter. The point is, since it's a d20 roll, Hero Points can come into play. If you want. :)
Hmerrin is uncomfortable with the idea, and points out that his luck has not exactly been great of late.
However, you do have time to discuss the matter, as the spell cannot be cast until tomorrow. So for now, you can do any other errands you may have and get a good night's sleep.

Alizar listened as the Priest gave his terms. He decided it best respect the sanctity of the temple, so he simply nodded and turned to his friends to discuss the issue.

"Hey, I don't see anything wrong with a little fur." Wil laughs. "Ok, that's it," he hears his mother. Her voice sour. "You are far too young to be drinking." "Mother, what are you talking about. You and father drank all the time. He was so drunk on my birthday..." Suddenly, Wil's head was twisted and his hood fell from his hand. He held the side of his face and it had a tomato red hand print upon it. "Don't talk about your father like that." Instantly, Wil's constitution kicked in, he stood straight and his vision returned. He growled, thoroughly, embarrassed and hid within his hood. After several minutes of listening to the others talk he offered to pay for the game. "Priest, I apologize for my behavior. For my friend here I will provide the funding for the game of chance. I do this reluctantly but since I have shadows that like to hit me I will do what I WANT."

But in all seriousness, I don't feel like this is a good gamble. 350 seems a fair price for a ritual of this magnitude. The equipment should sell for at least that much, and if not, I can chip in."

The temple of Wardd becomes less intriguing to Lornak the more time the group spends here. It could be the atmosphere or the tidings of the day bit either way Lornak wants very much to leave. He makes for the exit and wearily shuffles through the streets on the way back to Marsh House.
Once there the group discussion of the remedies cost some up for which Lornak has this to say; "I do not believe it is even a question. We take care of our own. If it costs us coin, rest assured young Hmerrin, then we shall pay it."
With that he makes his way to his room, careful not to trip up or down the stairs. Upon entering he collapses onto his bed, closes his eyes and wades off into blissful slumber.

Realizing they're in a place of worship, Var decides it unwise to question the tradition & faith of a God of Testing. So instead he folds his arms and does his best to feign boredom, rather than let his fatigue from this morning's fight show.
Hmerrin casts about gratefully as his comrades offer to pitch in, and offer their assurances.
"You guys are all right," he responds. "Maybe I will try my luck. I'll get a good sleep on it and decide in the morning."

The rest of you are satisfied with the amount of information you have, so you return to Marsh House to rest, and possibly count out your funds to see if you can cover the cost.
The next day, you arrive at the temple without incident, and the High Priest casts his spell. Hmerrin feels no differently after the spell is cast, but the High Priest assures you that you are cured.
"That's 350," he says, "or you can go double or nothing. Which will it be?"

Wil's head is heavy the next morning and his face still sore. He prays in the morning and speaks to Cicero and his mother. Another argument, which is becoming a disturbing trend. Thankfully, it's contained within the walls of his room. Embarrassed, he hangs his head and follows the others out to the temple. Once at the temple he listens, not convinced this is legitimate.
"What do you mean double or nothing? Is it possible this didn't work? Do we pay the $350 and it's cured? Why would we pay double or nothing after? I'm confused ...and before you say anything...I'm feeling better. I apologize for my behavior and potential disrespect yesterday. The drink does not treat me well."

Lornak wakes from his sleep to the sound of birds chirping. When his eyes focus he notices that his body is in the same position in which he remembers falling asleep. He turns and feels the muscles protest. "...forsaken shapshifters..." he grumbles. He desires another day of rest but duty calls. There are decisions to be made. He hears the others starting to mill about and decides to join them. He cleans himself up a bit and on the way to the Temple of Wardd grabs a bite to eat.
When the conversation leads to taking a chance he has this to say; "I acquiesce to a places customs, cultures and traditions when I find myself in it. The Kid will be cured either way. I say play the odds." He says with a twinkle in his eye and a wink to Hmerrin. "The only thing that will be hard up will be our pocketbooks if Wardd withholds his favor."

After a nightmare plagued night, mostly involving Selene welcoming him 'home' into a den of wolves, Hmerrin greets the day most anxious to get back to the Temple.
They arrive, the High Priest is there, and casts the spell.
The lad doesn't feel any different physically, but the High Priest's assurances are all he needs. With the weight of the curse lifted from his head, the lad feels positively giddy.
"You know what?" he asks with a grin. "Let's do this. Double or nothing. Let's go."

Now, she accompanied her group to the Temple where, much to her dismay, Hmerrin had agreed to the bet. She shrugs it off and waits for someone to roll the dice. She would have no part in it, as her luck probably was not the best.

Lornak looks on as Toston gambles. His mind wonders. "Luck." He could not count how many times he and his mentor found themselves in establishments doing such. Every institution has a game. Every place an outcome.
He has witnessed his fair share of fools meeting their end to "bad luck." Enough times to know the player begins not knowing enough, the runner knowing too much and the outcome usually being rigged. He has just come to know that one had better "luck" taking fate in one's own hand rather than let chance decide anything. "Sometimes it can be fun." He admitted. "You just have to know how to enjoy it when it plays out."

The High Priest smiles as he picks up the dice from Toston. "It would seem that Wardd is not on your side today," he says. Then he throws. His throw is worse than Toston's. He looks sour for a moment, then chuckles. "Well," he says, "that will teach me to count my winnings before I throw. Thank you for the game, sir. You owe us nothing." With that, he picks up his dice and (presumably) resumes his duties.
As you leave the temple, you are approached by a young woman in well-made, but nondescript, clothes. She bows to you. "Your pardon, sirs and lady. There is a gentleman who wishes to speak with you, if it is quite conveneint. Will you be good enough to follow me?"

He admires the priest's attitude as he accepts the loss with grace, a shining example to other members of his priesthood. Lornak is happy for everyone fore they get to keep their coin!
As the group takes leave of their host he makes sure to bow to the man in respect. Its not every day that that one exits a place of worship with so much joy in one's heart.

The priest makes his roll, and Hmerrin lets out a "Boo-Yah!" as the three comes up. He quickly regains his composure, not wanting to rub it in.
But the lad is practically skipping as he heads for the door.
"This has been a great morning!" he opines, gaily. At Dusan's suggestion, he rubs his fingers on his chin speculatively. "Hmmm, you know, I might just try it!" To Wilford - "You said Scorpions, I added Silver. Silver Scorpions. Yes. Absolutely."
To the complete stranger who just asked them to follow her - "Lead On!"
But, he does become a little more cautious as Toston's questions to the lady start to make sense. The fighter waits for her reply.

The stranger does seem suspicious to Asteria, especially since she gave no names. The barbarian looks over the other female, trying to discern if she means the team harm. (Sense Motive: 15)

As you depart the Temple, some of you begin discussing a possible group name. "Silver scorpions," named for two of your defeated opponents, seems to be getting some traction.
The woman's appearance puts an end to that talk. Hmerrin is all for following, but holds back when he sees his companions are less certain.
Toston asks what it's about and who wants the meeting.
"He is a man of importance," the young woman replies, "who doesn't want his name bandied about on the street. He did not tell me precisely what his business was with you, but I gather it is something to your benefit."
Asteria finds it difficult to get a read on the woman. You don't think she intends you any harm.
The young woman appears to be unarmed, but Var is able to spot where she has her dagger concealed. However, you are in the City Above, so a hidden knife is just ordinary precaution, really. Var sees nothing else untoward.

He follows the group as they go and meet this "benefactor."

Taking appropriate precautions, you follow the young woman. She leads you away from the Temple and the Full Moon Market, back toward the Key Tower. A few blocks before the Keyhole proper, she ducks into a small shop, giving the shopkeeper a friendly nod. He returns it, and favors you with a suspicious scowl.
She leads the way into a back room, where a man is seated at a small table, a glass of wine before him. You think at first that he is a very old man, but then you realize that his hair must be prematurely white. His face has but few lines; he can't be much above 40. He rises to greet you.
"Welcome," he says, "thank you for agreeing to speak with me. Please, be seated."
There are seats around the room, but he has the only seat at his small table.
"My name is Jeraldh," he says, "and I would like to thank you."

The room in the back looked comfortable, if not sparse. The man waiting for them in the back room looked as though he has seen a few things in his time. When the man speaks, Lornak is thankful of the tidings bestowed upon them. However, with a House involved, he holds some trepidation that it will not last or hold some unforeseen complication. "Take it where you can get it." he says in his mind as he respectfully accepts the praise with a head nod. Lornak says nothing.

"I have seen many frightening things," he replies to Wilford, "but no, my hair turned white on its own."
"On behalf of the House of Keys," he says to the group of you, "I would like to extend my thanks for dealing with the House of Silver. They were becoming troublesome, especially to the Darts, whose interests align with ours. For now."
He reaches for a small pouch and opens it on the table next to him. "I would like to present each of you with a token of our thanks," he says. He pulls out something that gleams--a dull, pewter gleam, and not the more interesting gleam of coins. "These tokens mark you as friends of the House of Keys. Show them to any member of the Keys, ask for assistance, and it shall be given to you--within reason."
He empties the pouch onto the table. There is a token there for each of you.

Lornak eyes the tokens on the table. Being acknowledged as in alignment with major House could bring undue scrutiny from that House's rivals. On the other hand, he also knows full well that a favor of a major House is an indispensable commodity in Dirt City. He would be a fool not to accept it.
As he reaches for the token Lornak cannot help think that anonymity is still the best policy for the group. He keeps that thought for a later conversation as he reaches out and palms a token.
"I accept this token in the spirit in which it was given. Thank you." Lornak says and again bows his head. He reads Jeraldh's face for any signs that acceptance of the favor entitles more than just what is being offered.(Sense Motive d20=25)
As he takes up his seat he hopes that each member of the group takes the offer at face value.

Var, Lornak, and Dušan pick up tokens more cautiously. Lornak cannot sense any "gotcha!" vibes coming from Jeraldh; you think the tokens are exactly what you believe them to be--which, granted, is more than enough. Dušan can see that the tokens are not magic.
Toston has questions for Jeraldh. "Taking a token does not put you in our debt," Jeraldh assures you. "Nor does using a token create a debt between us. This is a means of settling accounts, not creating new ones."
Wilford also has questions. "You have already assisted us," Jeraldh says. "As I said, the House of Silver had become troublesome. You elimitated them. I am aware that you didn't do it to help us, but the fact remains that you did help us, and we offer the tokens as repayment."
He smiles and nods pleasantly.

Jeraldh has nothing else for you, and indeed there is a back way out of the place. The woman who led you here shows up again to shepherd you though a bewildering storage area and into a back alley. You can see the Temple of Wardd looming a few blocks away.
"I trust you can find your way from here," your guide says. "Farewell."
Your errand and meeting took up much of the morning, but most of the day is still ahead of you. You own a building now, unless you've changed your mind and decided to sell it. You may have other errands you want to do. And it might not hurt to check in with Boggs.

You make your way to your building. It is much as you left it--which is to say, in indifferent repair, mostly empty, fairly grubby. On the ground floor are three storefronts, all long-since boarded up. A narrow passage between two of the shops leads to a tiny lobby with stairs leading up to rooms above. There are two floors above the ground floor, but the top one is extremely dodgy. It's going to take considerable work, or it might be best just to knock that part down, and either leave it as a two-story building, or build a new, better third story.

On the way to the building, Dušan hires a courier to deliver a message to Boggs, at Crescent Moon Trading Company, requesting a meeting and instructing the courrier to return to the building with an answer.
As for the discussion of the building, Dušan suggests "We could always open something ourselves. I apprenticed as an alchemist and with Lornak's help I bet we could run a fine shop, not to mention keeping a few choicer ingredients in stock for our needs."

She shakes her head as the the topic of home repairs is brought up. However, she does agree with Dusan's idea. "I'll be the body guard for the shop!"

You discuss possible uses for your new building. Hmerrin's professional opinion is that the third floor needs to come down; it's just too unstable. Looking at the second floor, you could turn it into just about anything you wanted. Hmerrin can tell that interior walls have been put up, taken down, and moved several times. The current configuration has a large open area with a kitchen, which was probably used for a common area, and several smaller chambers that were probably personal quarters. Some of these are pretty makeshift, with cobbled-together walls and curtains for doors.
Wilford and Dušan talk of opening a shop, but Asteria is dubious. Unless they need muscle.
Dušan sends a messenger to Boggs. After about 40 minutes, Boggs himself arrives at the building, the messenger trotting along uncertainly beside him. "This is as good a place to meet as any," Boggs explains. "What's on your mind?"

Lornak surveys for the lower floors in search for a basement or cellar. If the group decides to dwell here he would prefer a cold and dark place in which to rest his head.
The talk of an alchemist shop is intriguing but he has no desire running such a business. "Will we have the time to be proprietors of an alchemist establishment?" He asks Dusan. "Running a shop is a full time job and we have adventuring to do." But as he thinks about it he realizes having access to a lab could be advantageous for said adventuring. "Perhaps we could rent the space to an enterprising alchemist with a section of the back being exclusively for our use?" He looks around. "It would have to be someone we can trust..."
Lornak turns to Boggs; "Who besides House Keys was scrutinizing our arena performance?"

Wil begins to polish one of the shop windows with a dirty rag as he talks to himself. "What about that Wendy character? She would make a good employee." "Sure she would, you should tell the group." "I should..." "You think they can hear us?" Wil then smiles to himself. It's not so much that he is crazy but just strangely humerous. He then actually speaks to the group. "You know we have a couple people Down Below we could talk into being shopkeepers.... ie Wendy and that Silver dealer.

"Well I mean my father made hats, my grandfather carved wood and stone and my mother is a seamstress, but I don't really have any experience with carpentry. I've been really interested in sailing though. Maybe we can make some sort of art projects involving decorative sailing knots and we can sell them?" Toston says to the group while waiting for Boggs.
After Boggs gets there he says to the man, "Well if we use the tokens, it will mean we appear to be aligned with the Keys which will make some of the other houses our enemy. I don't really know where the alliances are currently breaking right now besides the fact that the Darts and Keys are in an alliance as evidenced by receiving the tokens. Do you know who the current coalitions are?"
"Regardless I think we should get these tokens sewn into secret pockets in our clothing. If we need them we can have them at hand, but it won't be obvious should we get captured by someone like the Knives again. Alternatively we could hide them somewhere either here or in the Marsh House but if we find ourselves in an emergency situation where they could come in handy we may not have the time to return to either location."

Time could be a constraint while running a business, but Dušan is not ready to put the idea out of his head entirely. His thoughts are interrupted as Boggs enters. Listening to everyone, he thinks most topics are covered. "And I have 2 questions for Crescent Moon Trading Company. First, does Crescent Moon want to be seen doing business with people of our growing infamy. And second, would Crescent Moon know any entrepreneurs looking to rent a modest store front?"

Alizar listened to the other's suggestions as Bogg's arrived. "Well, I could move my clinic here and operate it out of a room on the first floor, could do some good for the local community." As for the topic of the coins, well, they could come in handy for sure, and Alizar was willing to risk the associations of it would get them out of a bind.
