DM RobC - "Of course, at least a family heirloom is a reminder of where you come from...."
Thursday April 14th, 2016 8:46:17 AM

OOC: First off, on behalf of DM Shane and myself I want to thank you all for your patience. We have been working hard in the background to write the next module at the high quality you guys deserve. You continually post great numbers, and as your DMs we feel we owe it to you to provide the best adventures we can. Thanks to some additional work from SteveK we are now in a position to commence it. Enjoy!

-------------------------------------------

The day of celebration ends with nary an incident. The following day sees many nursing "one too many ale" heads.

Waiting for a coven of witches to arrive could take a lifetime for Leskni. If she is to learn more about being a bloodwitch and to grow her powers, she will need to actively seek some witches out herself. The Counsellor extends an offer for Leskni to travel back to the Emerald Kingdom with him. He knows of a few witches in that area that might be able to help.

-------------------------------------------

It has been some 6 months now since the groups last great adventure. Sure there were small things here and there, but nothing that would be chronicled for the ages.

Leskni met with the 3 witches in the Emerald Kingdom and was able to advance her understanding of bloodwitch abilities.

Today is a lovely (early) winter day. The weather is quite mild as it usually is in this area. The sun shines brightly and light puffy clouds float on an unfelt high breeze. The small animals of the Tree and birds dance about in the boughs and do what animals in the safety of their homes do. Life has been good these past months. Visitors and merchants have come and gone and with the onset of ‘winter’ for what it is, the trade route of the East West Road is nearly done.

The house the Counsellor promised the party is nearing completion. There have been 'friendly' arguments between the architects (gnomes) and the builders (dwarves), but all-in-all, things are coming together nicely.

"I don't suppose I could trouble you for a minute?" one of the dwarves asks as he wipes some sweat from his brow. He is a stout little man whose braided red beard reaches his belt. "I've been looking for some help in training for the Stone Festival in the Scab"

OoC: We appreciate your hard work, DMs & Co. Many thanks.

IC: Having lived somewhat close to the Scab, Owen tries to recall what he knows of the Stone Festival. Knowledge (Local): 13. Knowledge (History): 31!

"What sort of training do you need help with?", he asks.

Atlas hear's the dwarf's question and wanders over closer to Owen. "I've been going crazy with all this down time. I will do just about anything if it means getting my feet on the ground and working my muscles some. What ever it is, count me in!"

----------------------------------------------
ooc: Ditto to Weston, you guys put in a lot of your personal time for our enjoyment...it is really appreciated!

Note: As winter approached Atlas went to the general store to purchase more appropriate travel gear. His character sheet will be updated at some point in the very near future...hopefully this weekend.

OOC: And ditto from me as well to the DMs! :)

IC: "I really like the work you have all done on the house. I wish we didn't have to bury you within the structure to hide all of our secrets." I try to keep a serious face, to keep them guessing, even though they probably know me better by now. ;)

OOC a DM's life is never dull, and often seems that the players just rampage through your plans. So Many Thanks and I will try not to rampage. Also I will try to get the house 'design' enlarged but probably not till after Sunday, I just spent 3 days finally getting my pbem Star Trek game going again, and have a Traveller game to GM Saturday.

Armand has been often looking in to see how the house construction has been going. He secretly has been channeling healing toward the end of the day to remove the minor aches and pains of the workers and reduce their fatigue.

"I have never heard of this Stone Festival. What can you tell me of this? And how can I help in your trainnig?" He asks the dwarf. . . whose name he probably knows.

Like Carver, 'Osul keeps an ear on the conversation. The possibilities of Stone Festival are intriguing.

Over the six months, 'Osul has attempted to assist the construction team. In particular, but not limited to, the use of Stone Shape to produce basic shapes for table and bench tops, fire resistant bookcases for the library, stone tiles... all of which the artisans can then put their stamp on.

DM RobC - "I wish we didn't have to bury you within the structure to hide all of our secrets"
Friday April 15th, 2016 8:27:43 AM

Owen knows well of the Scab's Stone Festival. It is an annual affair that lasts for an entire week. Dwarves, elves, gnomes and halfling of the area all attend. It has been responsible more than once for extending the peace between dwarf and elf.

Atlas is in for whatever is on offer. He's dying to stretch his legs some.

Carver and Osul are content to listen to the conversation.

Mack jokes with the dwarf about burying him within the structure. "Bury a dwarf? Surely you know how many different escape tunnels we have already made in there" he jests back.

Armand asks for some more details of the festival and the aid the dwarf was after "The name's Cedric. Cedric Spadeclimber" he says extending his arm to shake "The Stone Festival is an annual event where all the good folk of the Scab get together to celebrate the fae that for centuries protected the land. There's lots of eating, drinking and events. That last one is what I could use a little help with. Any of you feel like helping me train?"

Cedric goes on to explain further "Any of you ever played 'Grab the Greased Goblin'? We don't use actual goblins mind you. Two people enter a field with two small pigpens on either side. In the middle of the field are 5 greased up pigs. The first person to get three of the pigs into the small pen on their side is the winner."

"We dwarves have a pretty good success rate with it." he adds quite proudly "Of course magic of any kind is considered cheating. And the gnomes know better than to try and speak with the pigs! What do you say? Any of you want to give it a try? Just for sport, mind you"

OOC: And I'll add myself to the chorus of thanks :-). Your efforts are sincerely appreciated.

OOC: Are any of the pigs called Squealy Nord perchance?

[b]"It sounds like fun,. Would you consider it cheating if I just use magic to reduce myself down in size? I'm afraid that I could easily accidentally hurt (or even kill) a piglet were I to compete while this large.["/b]

Armand scratches his head? "Well I don't know how good a pig we would make for you to catch. Unless 'Osul turns into one. I guess we could grease Mack up and you could chase him around.

Armand pauses seeing the looks he's getting. "err, Or did you have something else in mind for us helping you train?

"No, seriously! Though, Leskni, would you have a Reduce Animal/Creature to spare?"

DM RobC - "I'll leave the younger folk to chase the bacon"
Monday April 18th, 2016 8:12:54 AM

"No no no, Mistress Leskni. No magic at all. You wrestle the pigs in whatever size you naturally are" he then leans in closer "Why do you think we dwarves do so well against the gnomes and halflings?" He gives a wink and a smile.

Armand considers that perhaps someone would be shifting into the form of a pig or some such. Osul even offers to supply a pig "No fear, as I've already procured the piggies. And no, they're not piglets. It's usually the elves that suggest them anyway" Cedric chuckles at his joke.

Carver offers an excuse as to why he can't participate, as does Owen. They may have the most common sense out of everyone - wrestling oily pigs in a muddy field doesn't exactly sound wise.

Mack and Atlas are both keen on the event. Osul, Armand and Leskni are undecided. Carver and Owen will be watching from the sidelines.

"Meet me in the field in 30 minutes. I'll get everything ready" Cedric walks off at a brisk speed (dwarfishly speaking).

-------------------------------------

It isn't exactly the warmest of days but in a small field north of the tree, Cedric can be seen waiting wearing nought but breeches. Long red hair isn't just confined to his head and beard, as his chest and shoulders are also covered in the stuff.

A medium sized area has been roped off - perhaps some 40ft square. The rains of winter have made this ground quite muddy. Wandering about the field are 5 decent sized pigs. True to his word, each has been given a good coat of grease. Beig both greased and muddy, gripping these pigs should be a challenge!

On the eastern and western sides are small wooden-fenced pens.

A few folk from the Tree have come to watch the spectacle.

"Ah, you made it!" Cedric greets the group. He rubs his hands together in anticipation "So who's up first?"

'Osul is happy letting those showing their keenness (or simply eagerness to get their part over and done with and then warm again) go first. He has another thought: how will a muddy field look as he does Pass Without Trace? He will slot somewhere in the middle, as it is now clear he isn't required to be a piglet.

It's like this Cedric explains, you got the greased pigs, you catch them. first person to immobilize a pig and drag or carry it back to the judge is the winner. rules are no harming the pig. It has to be alive and relatively unharmed. No magic. Individuals first have to catch a pig and bring it to the judge to qualify. you have 15 minutes to catch your pig. after all contestants have been qualified or disqualified the pigs are regreased and the main event starts. three pigs are released and all qualified contestants get into the ring to try and be the first, 2nd and 3rd to catch one. No weapons or magic then either. No fish hooking, or eye gouging. but interference with other contestants pig catching is allowed..and even encouraged. Cedric smiles broadly.

Whose up first? and who wants to be the judge?

the mechanic goes like this. roll DC 23 against DEX to to catch a pig. Roll DC 24 to STR to hold onto it. make one roll for each minute you are in the ring. if you do not make your roll in 15 tries you are disqualified. failed Dex check means you did not catch the pig. failed Str roll means that the pig got away. success of both means that you were able to catch and hold the pig long enough to get it to the judge. Make your rolls and then creatively describe the battle in the pig pen for petroleum packed porcine procurement

Ok, Ok...that's enough, sorry I had to see if ya'll could do it. These are full grown hogs. I'll get them out and bring in the real ones, the ones they will use at the competition

In short order the large hogs are removed and the smaller greased pigs are brought in.

[b]"Hurmp. Not a very commendable way to treat the people you asked to help you Cedric."

Armand will participate in the event. However, he will not attempt to catch a pig. He will do everything he can to be in Cedric's way. Not sure if that would then still be the +1 for dex or +5 for CMB since he will be basically body checking Cedric. Rolls: 17, 2, 17, 3, 14, 18, 8, 4, 5, 8, 4, 15, 13, 2, 8

Not sure if those rolls apply to every round or how you want to work it. Basically Armand is staying close by Cedric and if he see's him getting hold of a pig, Armand intends to body check him.

Owen smiles when he realizes the trick Cedric has pulled.

After the proper piggies are released, Owen cheers loudly as Mack nabs one.

Carver watches as the game truly begins and has yet to decide whom to cheer for..... It's still leaning towards the piglets.
