Help! -- In My Life (DM Mstitt) Wednesday April 27th, 2016 8:35:46 PM
Micah reverently takes the scarf. Impulsively he reaches out and dries the grieving father's tears with it.
Riebel reels back and avoids the action. “Whoa, now. I don’t need that comfort. I’m ok. I just need you guys to find my daughter.” He smiles uncomfortably as Micah says, "A gift from your heart, marked with your loving tears. I can think of no better sign to bring to her than this. I pray we can bear it well." Micah then gently folds up the scarf and puts it inside his tunic for safe keeping. His eyes, too, are wet with emotion.
Voice thick, he whispers, "We will return," and steps quietly away.
K nods and leaves with Micah. "Meant what I said back there. The Hand's insidious. Being told it's ok to follow your passions is a message most folks would like to take to heart. Heck, it's not without merit. Also meant what I said about kids burning out after they realize no one's there to take care of them anymore."
Inwardly, he wonders how she still feels about her father. Is she resentful, or did she come to the conclusion that it was right of him to follow his passion for drink & debauchery? He thinks that maybe that can be a weapon against her.
Zanderallen states, “With Domi's blessing you'll see your daughter wearing this scarf once again." He then leaves leaves with Micah and K.
"Sounds like the Hand has it half right, follow what you love. They're just forgetting everything in moderation. And the lie being partially true makes it all the more insidious. Well let's head to Octopus Gardens and catch up with Matthius. We have a lot to figure out." He adds to K’s conversation.
Martisan nads farewell and packs up her things. "I don't doubt it." She says to K, "But there's no need to worry the poor girl's father. Let's hope we can show the lass some sense before she faces any such misfortune."
Martisan checks her gear as the group nears their destination to meet with Matheus. "The old man made it sound like this cult has a strong presence in the Octopus Gardens, so we'll want to be careful. If that group of guards we ran into are as close to the Hands as we suspect, our reputation may already precede us, for better or worse. Don't let these purveyors of passion mislead you, and be careful with any brash reactions." The halfling cautions the group, concerned with their excursion into unknown enemy territory, as she sees it. (Perform: Oratory, 24. 3 rounds of Bardic Performance for Careful Teamwork; all allies within 30ft gain +1 Perception, +1 Disable Device, +1 Flat-Footed AC, +1 Reflex Saves & +1 AC vs traps for 1 hour. 6 rounds of Performance remaining.)
The Broken Shack sits in a seedy, poor, part of the Fence. It’s located in the center and most residents walk around. Dirt covers the ground and most of the buildings. The residents are also dirty and walk with their heads down. That is, except for, Mathieus. The old single-eyed Seer waves enthusiastically when he sees the group. The Broken Shack is, in honest terms broken and leans against the next building. It has a broken picture window. The window is opaque with grime. “Welcome, my friends.” He says and escorts you into the shack. Stohp has little to say and follows the others

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 (12) AC: 17 T: 11 FF: 16 CMD: 15 Party Treasury Thursday April 28th, 2016 9:35:48 AM
Zanderallen follows Mathieus into the shack, slightly taken aback in the difference between Mathieus' appearance and the rest of the area. He hopes the food and drink don't match the looks.
"Greetings Mathieus. We're to take you up on your offer. After that alleyway tussle I could use some refreshments."
Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 (6 non-lethal) AC: 17/14/13 CMB: +5 CMD: 14 Thursday April 28th, 2016 10:59:21 AM
Stohp looks around with interest. For a time she was stuck living in such a shack with her sister; life isn't kind to immigrants who lose their money seconds after arrival. Mathieus' is actually slightly cleaner and more homey then the hole in the ground she was stuck in. With no qualms whatsoever she finds a nice piece of floor to sit on for the conversation; the walls probably wouldn't hold her 800 lbs weight if she tried to lean on them.
K (Carl) HP: 20 - 3 nonlethal AC:17/14/13 CMD:18 Thursday April 28th, 2016 1:52:39 PM
K isn't sure why they're here, but it's probably best not to be rude when you're a new adventuring company in town. He looks for a clean-ish place to sit & does so.
Pesmer Zerase (Ryan W.) HP: 14/14 AC:13/13/11 Thursday April 28th, 2016 2:44:15 PM
Whenever the silver shields would return back to home base, they would find a letter upon the table left by Pesmer. The letter says:
"Dear friends,
I unfortunately must take my leave from the Silver Shields for a time. The Star Mages guild has sent me on an expedition and I do not know the date of my return. It has been an honor and a privilege working and fighting along side all of you and, should I return in good health and decent sanity, I will wish to rejoin and adventure with you all once more. In the mean time I wish you all good luck and I hope we all shall meet again soon.
Be well, Pesmer Zerase.
PS: I also might be married now..."

The place is actually quite different on the inside. The floor is clean and the tables are carefully manicured with a white strip through the center. Upon each table is a small cup for coffee or some tea. Mathieus offers each adventurer a seat and disappears into the back. Eldrich, Mathieus’s assistant walks into the restaurant. He has a “News you don’t want to hear look on his face.” “I have a solemn letter from your partner Pesmer.” “I will read the letter to you.”

Martisan climbs up onto the offered seat with a smile, pulling out her writing implements and setting them to the side on the table. She rocks back on her heels and sits down heavily in her chair when the assistant reads Pesmer's letter. "Shame, that..." She says quietly at the news that their friend is leaving the party for an undetermined length of time.
"I hope Matheus has better news for us in our fortunes." She says with a halfhearted chuckle, glancing to where he disappeared in the back. Or more information on the Hands of Love. The small, orderly bard thinks, placing little personal stock in omens and portents. Still; better we humor him and see what information might turn up than let the old man wander back to the turtle races and get into more trouble.
Micah (John) HP: 16/16 -6 nonlethal AC: 17/10/17 CMD:13 Thursday April 28th, 2016 8:03:18 PM An emotional day today is. I wonder what will be next, reflects Micah as he hears Pesmer's news.
"Pesmer, married!" he exclaims out loud. It is bittersweet news: working for the Star Mages is a step toward fulfillment of Pesmer's dreams and a new love on top of that, but he will miss the half elf's contagious enthusiasm and irrepressible spirit. "Wings. I will hold you to that promise friend..." whispers Micah, barely audibly.
After a moment of quiet reflection, a slight smile on his face all the while, Micah returns to the present and awaits Mathieus' return.

Seeing the inside of the Broken Shack fits more in line with what Zander would have expected from Mathieus. Never judge a book by it's cover. He takes a seat and settles in to await Mathieus' return.

Octopus Gardens -- While My Guitar Gently Weeps (DM Mstitt) Friday April 29th, 2016 10:18:20 PM
Eldrich leaves and heads the same direction as Mathieus. They both disappear into what seems like a kitchen with swinging doors.
The mood is somber on hearing the news about Pesmer. The group then realizes that another adventurer is missing. Agrippa also seems to have slipped away.
After some quiet contemplation the adventurer began to talk amongst themselves. “Shame, that…” says Martisan as she relaxes. "I hope Matheus has better news for us in our fortunes."
She has little faith in prophecy but hopes for some useful information.
Micah is surprised by the potential fact that Pesmer is getting married.

After several minutes Eldritch returns. He is dressed as a barista with a clean apron and a stainless steel teapot. He fills the cups and leaves. (Assume he gave you exactly what you wanted ;)
After several more minutes Mathieus appears dressed in head to toe sequins. He has a large, hat that falls off the sides of his head. His single eye sharply focused on everyone at once.
“Please join me when you have finished with your refreshments.” He then sits upon a wooden chair placed against the wall and stares at the wall to the left.
Eldritch reappears and approaches the adventurers. “Please step forward one at a time and the master will tell you your fortunes. Please ask a question, which may or may not be answered.”

Maltheus' well intended offer poses a moral dilemma for Micah. He was taught that one should face life's challenges as they come with courage and integrity. The potential of getting a glimpse of the future raises the concern that he may somehow be cheating fate. He wonders if wanting to see the what may happen before he must confront it may be a form of cowardice.
However, he thinks, maybe the acceptance of this opportunity to see what normally cannot be seen is a challenge in and of itself that should be bravely met. Is my reluctance to hear this fortune born of fear of what the answer may be? he asks himself.
He finally comes to the decision that he should not back down from the opportunity the learn something that might be helpful. After some consideration he asks, "How might Elspheth best be led to the truth?"

Octopus Gardens -- She's Leaving Home After Living Alone ... (DM Cayzle) (DM Mstitt) Monday May 2nd, 2016 5:42:53 PM
Monday May 2nd, 2016 6:02:48 PM Martisan is disappointed that Pesmer left but chuckles at Zanderallen’s joke. She comments then stands before Mathieus. "Do the Hands of Love pose a threat to the safety and order of The Fence?" she asks the old man, standing before him, hands placed confidently on her hips (18 fortune roll; 28 sense motive).
Mathius holds no ill will toward anyone, senses Martisan, and his motives are honorable. His one eye focuses on her. His body sits rigid, and he points as toward a window on the left. “Ah, young halfling. I’ve seen into your past. You have been through alot in your thirty-two years. Abandoned as a child… but you fought through it. You have a strong sense of justice and order surrounding you. I see success in your future. A home, possibly. A large building with ornate windows and a mysterious nook in the wall of your room. This nook contains a safe but be warned about a mysterious gift.” Mathius’s then blinks. “Your question is a complicated one. The intent of the Hands of Love is not threatening but … with intent comes confusion.” His eye returns to the window and he ignored any attempts to communicate with him.
“I hold no evil within the shell of this body. This Seer is a mere tool but he is a good man.” Mathius says as Zander approaches. Mathius’s voice is stiff. Almost as if he is reciting from memory. "How far will the Silver Shield's reputation spread?" (Fortune Roll 8) asks Zanderallen.
Mathieus’s eye struggles to focus on the Paladin. You can see the Seer working while trying to stay still. “Who is this Silver Shield. I know not of this organization?” He says after several moments. His eye still unable to settle. After several moments it stares upward and meets Zander’s eyes. “You once went by another name. They called you Al. You are a courageous Paladin, as all are, and that courage is commendable but it will lead you into battle with overwhelming odds. I see a horned enemy in your future. I see peril and injury.”
Micah approaches. “Reluctance is not cowardice,” Matheus says. “It is a tell of intelligence to be cautious.” Micah asks, "How might Elspheth best be led to the truth?"
“Elspheth, hmmm… A missing warrior, are you missing a comrade? I see a connection between this young lady and a hero that you know. As far as truth … truth is at the ear of the beholder… I do see another young lady in your future. I do see a Briselda, or Brizzie. You have met once before near a battle.”
Mathieus’s eye studies something as from afar, then focuses on K. “Cynical young man, innocent arrogance. You are a skilled marksmen, I see, but that skill is at a right angle to your rigid code of conduct. The Hands of Love will see that. Love and passion walk a thin line at times.” His eye returns and stares out the shop window as K leaves. Within several moments it flickers, stares at Stohp, then returns.
“I feel another presence in this room. A sister. She misses you, and she is doing well.” His eye then returns to Stohp.
Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 17/10/17 CMD:13 Monday May 2nd, 2016 9:20:15 PM
When K asks his question, Micah laughs out loud. After his outburst, however, he is not certain that K was actually joking.
When Maltheus answers Micah's question, he politely withholds any expression from his face. This fellow is a great reader of people. I doubt, however, he reads much of the future," thinks Micah. To him, Maltheus' answers seemed more based on observation and speculation than any supernatural power. He steps back relieved that his moral dilemma was unnecessary in light of the absence of any real revelation.
K (Carl) HP: 20 - 3 nonlethal AC:17/14/13 CMD:18 Tuesday May 3rd, 2016 9:52:38 AM
K sighs. He can practically hear his father's displeasure at his actions from here.
"Sorry. That was rude of me." He stands up and leaves. He's not sure what upsets him more: his own conduct, or the fact that the seer was pretty much spot on.
Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 (12) AC: 17 T: 11 FF: 16 CMD: 15 Party Treasury Tuesday May 3rd, 2016 1:55:58 PM
Zander is shaken by Mathieus' statements and feels a little abashed that the seer noticed his detect evil, however it was necessary. He withdraws to a table and ponders to himself, 'How would he know that? I have not used that name in years, on the streets as a kid. Unless he knew me back then? But who would connect that urchin to me now?'
Shaking his head Zander's thoughts stray to the rest his telling, 'Battle with overwhelming odds. Been there many a time. That would not be a hard prediction to make. If it were not his knowing of my old name I would discount this horned enemy as a natural enemy for a paladin to run afoul of and as such an easy prediction. I will face it as any other, no reason to worry over it now. I will serve Domi the same as always.'
Having thought it over Zander is more at ease but still wonders as to the source of this man's information.

Martisan Odenthorp (Damarr) HP: 15/15 [10] | AC: 18 | T:14 | FF:15 | CMD: 14 Tuesday May 3rd, 2016 2:57:46 PM
Martisan's eyes widen a smidge as Mathieus accurately describes her past. A smile twitches at the corner of her mouth as he begins to describe success in her future; falling into a thoughtful frown at the mysterious, apparently prophetic allusions. The warehouse? ...no, the windows are large, nice, perhaps, but not ornate. A nook with a safe & a curious gift...?
"I'm starting to learn about confusion and intent." She replies softly with a glance to the shortsword sheathed at her hip, fists clenched by her sides. "Thank you sir."
Moving back to her seat, Martisan jots down the sage's words, also recording everything he mentions about the Hands to the other adventurers. Although she showed no scorn for K's slightly disrespectful question, she nods with a quiet smile as the young paladin apologizes.
"Quite an eventful day." She muses aloud, repacking her journal, "I've got plenty to mull over myself. Will you be turning in for the night when we leave, Matheus? I'm eager to visit the Octopus Gardens, and we want to ask you to be our guide, but it's a trip that could likely wait until tomorrow, if we're all in agreement."
For No One (DM Cayzle) Tuesday May 3rd, 2016 7:01:54 PM
Several in the Silver Shield conclude that Mathieus could guess many of the answers. Sharp, observations that are impressive ... don’t make him a true fortune teller.
Micah laughs then feels badly about it. He is polite but does not feel that the man offers any real revelation.
K and Zanderallen are a bit surprised; K apologizes ... "Sorry. That was rude of me." He stands up and leaves.
Zander discounts the battle prediction but wonders about the horned enemy reference. He is ready for anything, he feels.
Stohp is disappointed with Mathieus.
Martisan wonders about the windows in the warehouse ... they did not seem ornate to her ... maybe they would be worth a second look?
Is the source of Mathieus’s knowledge simply ordinary perception, or something more magical? It is a mystery, but the one-eyed man seems a bit put out that some of you may doubt him. He clears his throat, and all eyes are on him as he says, “You seek a young woman, with dark hair. You wonder how to gain her trust. Tell her this ... remind her of the promise she gave her mother. Tell her that only her father’s hope for her keeps him from drink and doom. She may listen to that.”
Eldrich enters the room and looks at Mathieus. The older, one-eyed man in the fashionable outfit sways. “Please, friends,” says Eldrich to you all, “let Mathieus catch his breath. This takes a lot out of him, and he is no longer young.”
Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 17/10/17 CMD:13 Tuesday May 3rd, 2016 11:01:43 PM Mysticism or wisdom, either way his advice seems sound," thinks Micah as Mathieus gives his final advice.
He bows to Mathieus and nods to Eldrich as he speaks. "Thank you for your helpful insight and your hospitality, but we wish to tire you no further." He also makes motions to leave, joining Martisan as she finishes packing up. "Or perhaps we could allow you to rest and visit the Gardens ourselves..."
Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 (12) AC: 17 T: 11 FF: 16 CMD: 15 Party Treasury Wednesday May 4th, 2016 9:33:43 AM "Thank you for your divination Mathieus. Zander checks his gear and then moves to follow Micah and Martisan out. "To the Gardens?"
K (Carl) HP: 20 - 3 nonlethal AC:17/14/13 CMD:18 Wednesday May 4th, 2016 10:31:28 AM
K nods. "That was...surprisingly helpful information. I misjudged Matheius. It's a mistake I won't repeat."
To the rest of the Shields, he simply says, "I'm ready to head to the Gardens whenever you folks are."
Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 (6 non-lethal) AC: 17/14/13 CMB: +5 CMD: 14 Wednesday May 4th, 2016 3:27:08 PM
Stohp shrugs and stands. It was probably to much to expect world shattering revelations for every member of the party. She thanks Matheius for the drinks and fortune telling and prepares to leave with the rest of the group.

Martisan nods her thanks to Matheus and Eldritch as they leave. Rubbing her injured shoulder, she shakes her head and chuckles at the others' eagerness to press forward. "We can check it out, but we'll have to be careful." The halfling again cautions. "Agrippa slipped away before we could notice, and Pesmer's gone and got himself married. That's two members down. Plus, I'm still sore from that tussle with the Jack Trippers, and played most of my tricks already for today." She shrugs, smiling up at the others. "But I'm certainly not going back to the warehouse to let you fellas have all the fun!"
Octopus Gardens -- Yesterday ... (DM Mstitt) Wednesday May 4th, 2016 9:45:02 PM Mysticism or wisdom, either way his advice seems sound," thinks Micah as Mathieus gives his final advice. Everyone bows and thanks Mathiues for his generosity.
"Thank you for your divination Mathieus,” Zander says. “If Briselda stills holds to this promise you speak of that may do much in reaching her. Also you are an excellent brewer of teas and coffees."
Martisan is still sore from tangling with the Jack Trippers. She notes that they are two companions shy.
Satisfied that you have some good information to go on you begin to leave when Eldritch stops you. “You will not find Octopus Garden’s on any map. It is a bit..” He pauses. “Portable.” “I will have to lead you there. It’s located on the Gold level but many of the other details are a mystery till we get there.” He then turns, speaks to Mathieus and returns. “If you need a room for the night, my master will be happy to provide one for you. It is getting late. It’s the least we can do. ”
Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 17/10/17 CMD:13 Wednesday May 4th, 2016 10:47:05 PM
Micah had not noticed the time until Eldritch mentioned it. He quickly surveys the injuries of the others and concludes that there is nothing a night's rest would not heal.
Martisan's subtle warning, and Eldritch's more direct one are not to be disregard lightly. "Perhaps an early morning visit after a night of rest would be more prudent," suggests Micah. "Are you sure we would not be an unnecessary burden on your master?" He carefully looks at the others to gauge their preferences.

Martisan Odenthorp (Damarr) HP: 15/15 [10] | AC: 18 | T:14 | FF:15 | CMD: 14 Thursday May 5th, 2016 2:11:26 PM "Huh.. I didn't think of how we'd find the place without your directions. I've certainly never been there - hadn't even heard of it until we started looking for this cult and ran into you gentlemen."
Scratching her head, Martisan peaks out the doorway, watching the evening traffic on the street. "I appreciate the offer; your hospitality is most welcoming, but this day's given me more than a few issues to think on, and your master's fortune has me wanting to check on something back at our base." Martisan nods to Micah "We've got some things to discuss as group now, I think, but I prefer a bit more solitude for my own thoughts first."
Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 (6 non-lethal) AC: 17/14/13 CMB: +5 CMD: 14 Thursday May 5th, 2016 2:32:36 PM
Stohp is a bit leery staying with a person they've known only a few hours in a bad part of town. The rest of the party seems ok with it... she'll just make sure to lock the door, maybe put a chair under the handle or sleep in front of the door so no one can sneak in on her.
Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 (12) AC: 17 T: 11 FF: 16 CMD: 15 Party Treasury Thursday May 5th, 2016 8:39:42 PM "I would say it might be wise for some of us to stay here in case others come trying to collect Mathieus' debt, but they are fewer of us than there used to be. I think it would be good if we all head back to Silver Shield Headquarters. We truly appreciate your offer but sometimes the comforts of home are the best. We'll meet you here in the morning so you can show us to the Gardens?"
Zanderallen is leery of letting any of his remaining party members out of his sight,
Octopus Gardens -- Hello Goodbye ... (DM Mstitt) Thursday May 5th, 2016 9:00:06 PM
“My master suggested that you stay the night. This neighborhood is unsafe when the night falls.”
Martisan thinks heading back to base would be a better idea and nods to Micah. Stohp is uncomfortable but happy to follow the others.
Eldritch takes the group through the back of the restaurant and up the stairs. The building creaks loudly, complaining with every step. Upon the second floor is a hallway with small rooms. “Go ahead and select a room, relax and get some rest. Breakfast will be provided in the morning and you can continue your quest for the girl.”
Zanderallen is leery of letting any of his remaining party members out of his sight and thinks they should go back to Silver Shield headquarters. He suggests coming back in the morning.
Eldritch then adds, “If you decide to leave just head back here in the morning and I will take you up to the race.” He then smiles and leaves.
Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 17/10/17 CMD:13 Thursday May 5th, 2016 10:16:52 PM Here we go again with the mixed signals," thinks Micah.
Following Martisan's and Zanderallen's lead he says, "Going back together makes sense. Let us accompany Martisan back to our quarters. Once safely there we can do what we wish, then reunite to come back here in the morning. K, would you care to join us?"

Beep Beep and Beep Beep, Yeah! (DM Cayzle) Friday May 6th, 2016 9:43:54 PM
It has been a long day. A fight -- a pretty tough one, as it turned out -- then visits, not unemotional ones, with an alchemist and a fortune teller.
Recall that you get vouchers for free meals daily. If you eat at The Giggling Ghost, Happy mentions that he heard about what you are doing, and he clearly approves. If you eat at The Brass Toad Tavern, you find the house minstrel is already singing a song about how you fight gangs and muggers. And she mentions K as if he is a member of the group. It you eat at The Fatted Calf, you get to relax in peace, although the chairs are certainly oversize -- though Stohp finds them just right.
That evening, do you wish to do anything at home? The big place feels a bit empty with Pesmer and Agrippa and Koh and Roland all gone. Maybe it is time to look for a few more members?
In the morning, refreshed and healed up after a good sleep, you meet Eldrich, and he walks with you up to the Gold Level. He explains that the races are certainly not illegal, per se, just unregulated. There are no laws prohibiting tiny turtle racing -- and if people keep on the down-low about it, there won't be, either, Wardd willing. Of course, the big turtle races take place on the lake, and the Turtlemistress supervises those. Everybody knows about those. The races in the Garden are more relaxed, less formal, private-like. The location of the Garden varies as it moves from venue to venue. That helps keep it on the QT.
You find that the Gold level is a busier place than the Fence. The people dress better, there are more of them, and people are less open about carrying weapons. Individual city guards are a common sight, not like the groups of guards that appear at irregular intervals on the Fence. Pushcart sellers yell at you to stop blocking traffic! A small child riding on one yells at you: "BEEP BEEP!"
Any preparations before you get to the Octopus's Garden? Spells prepped? BTW, note that spellcasting is totes obvious, unless you have the right feats to hide your components.
Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 (6 non-lethal) AC: 17/14/13 CMB: +5 CMD: 14 Friday May 6th, 2016 10:21:18 PM
Stohp decides to not to wear her usual laborer's clothing over her armor. The frayed, loose fitting clothing is useful for concealing that she's armed and armored but would stand out on the more well-to-do gold level. Instead she wears her gear openly, including her new WLA badge. Any questions people might have would be answered by the badge and no one should bat an eye at an adventurer on the gold level. The WLA is, after all, well respected.
Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 15/10/15 CMD:13 Sunday May 8th, 2016 11:11:05 PM
Before they depart, Micah pulls the Shields aside from K,. "Are we ready to induct K as a member or do we need more time? I think he has proven himself already as well as showing that he exemplifies what we are trying to be. We have no formal process for this, so I nominate him for membership."
Regardless of the outcome on that topic, Micah prepares himself for the trip, choosing to leave his shield behind, but not abandoning his hammer.

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 AC: 17 T: 11 FF: 16 CMD: 15 Party Treasury Monday May 9th, 2016 8:57:39 AM "I agree that it is time K was given full membership. He has shown himself to be driven by the same ideals we hold to. I second the nomination."
Zanderallen readies himself for a trip to the gold level. He leaves behind his sword, but will keep his war hammer, shield, and sap, reasoning that internal bleeding is less offensive to the guard than external bleeding. He will make sure his tunic and chainmail are clean and arranged so that both Domi's crest and the WLA badge are clearly visible on his chest. For who would question a paladin and an adventurer?

K notes the Shields going off with some trepidation. Hopefully almost killing a guy and being rude to one of their contacts won't be a deal breaker. He uses the moment to take out a very small leather-bound book from its hiding spot under his armor. He opens it to the first blank page & writes in:
Even if violence is a solution, deadly force should not be a first resort.
He nods in approval, then moves the book back to its hiding place.
If he's still around the next morning, he'll take few preparations other than praying to Flower. He practices smiling in a mirror; the Gold level probably didn't appreciate gruffness like the Fence did. He tries to remember all those lessons on diplomacy and tact since he'd probably be needing it. He's carrying his bow/quiver, as well as his rapier.
If the Shields are agreeable, he wouldn't mind using one of those saps either.
Martisan Odenthorp (Damarr) HP: 15/15 [10] | AC: 18 | T:14 | FF:15 | CMD: 14 d20+10=25 ; Monday May 9th, 2016 2:29:00 PM
At the warehouse that evening, Martisan examines the windows closely. Notes in-hand, she walks through the rooms, looking specifically for a small nook or alcove that could be in "her room" (Perception 25).
The halfling's preparation for the day remains the same, though she wishes she had an official badge to wear herself. She spends some time trying to hide her shortsword, but gives up after demonstrating no skill when trying to draw the concealed weapon, and leaves the blade on her hip, visible and ready to be drawn if necessary. Her whip and shortbow are also visible, as usual.
She nods when Micah suggests they make K an official member. "Pantheon knows we could use a few more of his caliber. I was going to suggest we stop by that records office to put his name on the roster, but I'm not sure how pressing that is at the moment." She shrugs, smiling, "Maybe the lad'll be happy enough with our word for now, and we can make it more official after today's activities. Might be good to look into making an insignia of our own, too." Martisan nods toward Stohp's prominently displayed WLA badge.
"As far as our search for this runaway girl goes, I think the answer's been under our noses this whole time. Compiling the information we got yesterday, there was a girl matching the description from Riebel in that 'Officers of Caeroldra' group we ran into, and Matheus said we met her once before, near a battle. It's hard to verify the old man's fortune-telling, but it does fit with the other info. I think Briselda has joined up with that militant little sect of the Hands."
Octopus Gardens -- Words of Love ... (DM Mstitt) Monday May 9th, 2016 9:41:15 PM
The Silver Shields move through the Gold level easily. A couple of you proudly display your WLA badge and some residents notice and compliment you on your accomplishment. Martisan searches her room for an alcove or nook and finds a dusty corner on the west side. It needs to be cleaned up but it will work well. She suggests looking into a badge for the Silver Shields. She tells the group that Briselda may have run into them previously when the Officers of Caerolda showed up. Micah brings up the the fact that K is not an official member and votes to include him in the group. Zanderallen seconds the vote passing it if there is no objection and Martisan suggests they run over to the records office.
Unfortunately, you took the vote in the middle of an intersection and several people shout angry words. As soon as you move they all move on without issue. K takes some notes and you run into Eldritch near Silverwing's Palace of Lavation. The high society bath house is a large, stone building with ornate gargoyles carved into the doorway and statues spitting clear water onto the street. Well dressed children giggle and run through the water to the dismay of the adults. The environment feels a bit stiff and Eldritch matches that feeling with a tight suit, tie and turtleneck. He approaches the group and says, “My master says he will met you at the races. We first must find Octopus Gardens. They always hide the tiny thing. Gambling isn’t illegal on the Gold level but it’s frowned upon, as is many other things.” You get the feeling Eldritch is not a fan of the Gold level. “There is a bard named Avril O’neal near Professor Nightshade's Taxidermy. She will be able to direct us to the next clue. We just have to make it through the breakfast rush.” A crowd of busy, sharp dressed halflings push through the group and enter the bath house.
Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 17/14/13 CMB: +5 CMD: 14 Monday May 9th, 2016 10:05:31 PM
Stohp puts in her 2 cents towards the discussion. "I have no objection to K officially joining. At the rate we're losing members we'll need to bring in new ones quickly from now on anyway."
She appreciates the respect of the passersby, but is all business, threading through the crowd with a finesse surprising considering her size. As the run-around they'll have to go through to find the races becomes apparent, Stohp sighs in annoyance. It's just like the wealthier citizens to take something as simple as a mobile gambling den and make it horrendously complicated. The more hoops people have to jump through to find the place the fewer customers they'll get.
Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 15/10/15 CMD:13 Tuesday May 10th, 2016 9:58:41 AM
At the first opportunity, that is not in the middle of a busy intersection or doorway, Micah brings up to K the consensus of the group to make him an official member.
"At this time it is little more than a nod and a handshake," says Micah with a nod and a handshake. "Perhaps later we can all define a more official means of induction," he continues thinking of his own vows of ordination and the rituals he knows Zanderallen and probably K himself underwent in accepting their personal callings.
When Martisan suggests a badge, he nods in affirmation. [b]"I think this is important for establishing our presence and giving those we try to help--and those we try to stop from harming them--an indication of who we are. If we are wise in our means of providing protection and service, this will hopefully also be a comfort and relief to law abiding folks when they see us."
Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 AC: 17 T: 11 FF: 16 CMD: 15 Party Treasury Tuesday May 10th, 2016 1:42:52 PM
Zanderallen extends his hand to K, "Welcome semi-officially to the Silver Shield. We'll have to finish the official part of adding you to the records later on. Now to find a bard, to tell us to talk to somebody, to talk to somebody, to find the gardens. If these people weren't so worried about images they wouldn't have to do all this running around. But then I guess we all made sure we looked like proper adventurers.", Zanderallen looks down, almost a little sheepishly, at his and the other's WLA badges. "I guess the difference is we're showing we're adventurers here to help rather than hiding a gambling addiction. Well we better get moving if we're to meet up with Mathieus before he gets in trouble again."

Martisan covers her mouth with a hand, hiding a chuckle at Stohp and Zanderallen's disgruntled response to the unexpected scavenger hunt. "It wouldn't be a proper, semi-illegal gambling den if any-old-body could just walk in." She exclaims with a laugh, before glancing around sheepishly at the busy traffic on the Gold Level. "I know you'll do us proud as the newest Protector of the Fence!" She congratulates K, patting the man's thigh. "Let's go get that clue!" She looks at the people around them once more, seeing if anyone appeared to be listening in, before following Zander to go find the bard.

Octopus Gardens -- The Walrus Was Paul ... (DM Mstitt) Tuesday May 10th, 2016 9:16:06 PM
No one seems to object to K joining the group. Even the law-abiding paladins among you feel that an interim membership is as good as given with a handshake to seal the deal ... Micah and Zander offer such a handshake to make it official.
Stohp adds that she has no objection. She sighs over the complications with finding the racetrack.
Martisan giggles. "It wouldn't be a proper, semi-illegal gambling den if any-old-body could just walk in.” She then continues to look for the clue or anyone suspicious but everyone is focused on getting to work or making it through the door of the bathes.
The group pushes its way through the breakfast crowd, which eventually dies down to a more comfortable trot. The residents of this level settle down and show a kinder side than what you are used to on the Fence, where a smile might well be rewarded with a pickpocket attempt.
You arrive at Professor Nightshade’s Taxidermy and find the usual assortment of tourists queued up to enter the famous establishment. The line wends in front of a window, in which are several fine examples of the taxidermist’s art on display. One such tableau is “The Death Of Parnoth At The Hands Of The Emerald Dragon Heroes.” (The green dragon is a giant lizard with bat wings cleverly affixed, and the dragons are all represented as sparrows.)
Next to that is an intense battle scene. “The Death of Domi (played by a small dog) At The Hands Of Marteus (played by a dire rat) During The Year Of Ascension.” In this one, the two gods are wrestling at the center of the diorama of an arena, and smaller creatures frozen in terror in the stands to represent mortals.
If you make a perception check vs DC15, then Highlight to display spoiler: {You notice a small handwritten note on the Domi diorama bearing the words “This masterwork is not for sale.”}

As he sees the "art" displayed in the window, especially the scene depicting Domi, he is not sure he cares for the taste of this artisan. Micah notices the small placard and shakes his head that their would be a buyer for such a thing.
Feeling a bit out of place, he waits for Eldritch to point them in the correct direction, keeping a curious eye on the crowd around the shop (Perception 18).

K is genuinely relieved when the Shields let him in, in no small part due to the fact that he had no intention of not dealing with this Hand issue, and doing it while they were working on it would be awkward.
He's also happy just to be accepted. "Thanks, all. I'll do my best to make you proud."
For now, though, there was a Hand issue to deal with. K's not the most perceptive guy around, but manages to see the note on the piece with Domi. (perception: 16)

Octopus Gardens -- She's Leaving Home ... (DM Mstitt) Wednesday May 11th, 2016 9:36:35 PM
Eldritch apologizes and tells the group that Avril is a blond woman, dressed in yellow. “She is always giving away those scrolls over there.” He points at the stack of scrolls next to the family of elves. She is probably around here somewhere. Someone has to know where she is."
Martisan presses her head against the glass and watches as several residents stare at the dioramas placed throughout the shop. There are a wide range of fish mounted on plaques, the odd monster or two or three in natural poses, and a range of interesting pelts and skeletons, but the good Professor is most famous for his dioramas of taxidermy mice, rats, lizards, turtles, cats, and dogs, dressed in the fashions of the day, placed in elaborate sets that act out famous moments in Wold History. Most likely were crafted by apprentices and journeymen. There will likely be a few masterpieces by the Professor himself, depicting especially notable miracles or catastrophes. The Death of King Claudia (a cat) is another such, especially meaningful since it is rumored that the Professor was in Plateau City at the time of that event. One masterwork that is on sale (though quite expensive).
Suddenly, a shopkeeper, not the owner, steps from the shop and asks that you don’t press against the glass. She quickly wipes the oil from the window and disappears back into the shop. Outside, you listen as Eldritch explains what Avril looks like. Micah doesn’t care much for the animal artwork and the depiction of Domi. Checking out the crowd he notices the stack of scrolls and a yellow purse sitting on the Juicer vendors rolling wagon. Stohp has a little more interest in the mounts in the window but hesitates to spend any cash on decorative items. She looks around the area for a any sign of the bard but doesn’t see her. Zanderallen stares at the displays, his attention completely taken up with them (perception 3). 'ugh, I wonder if he wouldn't taxidermize a sentient creature if the price was right.' The sign suddenly changed. Blessed with the spell to read minds. “No!”

Listening to Eldrich's description of the bard, Martisan spares the indicated pile of hand-outs a quick glance before following the shopkeeper into the store. "Apologies, ma'am." She says with a light tug on the merchant's sleeve. "I was merely admiring Professor Nightshade's amazing work. Funny to think I've spent my whole life on The Float and never had the pleasure of visiting this fine establishment."
Martisan gives the shopkeeper a broad grin and a wink as she pats her gold pouch, which, although well secured, gives the modestly unmistakable clink of more than a few coins. "I recently came into a bit of good fortune, at some small personal expense, of course." She begins, decidedly louder than necessary.
"I've an interest in purchasing a fine fur or two, and an eye for one of those dioramas in the future." She pulls out a few gold coins from her pouch and leans in closer to the shopkeeper, dropping her voice to a raised whisper. "Provided I can turn my modest luck into a larger sum, at least. I'm looking for a bard named Avril O'Neal, who hangs about here, I've heard. Blonde woman; likes to hand out reading material." (Diplomacy 18).

Eldritch shugs. He is a bit embarrassed because Matheus always seems to find the bard. “That is her purse. Like I said she really likes yellow. I don’t know where she is at.”
The Gunslinger watches as Micah approaches the scrolls. They are individually rolled and stacked in a pyramid.
You can make out a name on the scroll. “The Float City Times” There is additional information printed on the scroll but you would have to pick up the scroll.

Stohp steps into the crowd forcing many to stop and walk around. Some seem aggravated, but most are just trying to get from one place to the others. The response is a bit cold but most of the crowd points to the gunslinger and states she is often around, but a busybody. The gunslinger is seen with Avril often.
K Notes the shop owners reaction and asks a gentleman standing in line for Professor Nightshade’s Taxidermy.
“The man immediately brightens up. I’m telling you the Professor’s shop is unique to the Float. It is unique to this entire world. Where else can you ... see ... nay, experience a depiction of Domi like this. It’s absolutely amazing. Have you ever been in here? It’s a lot bigger inside than it looks. I think last time it took me three days to leave.” The man laughs. “Are you and your friends new around here?”
Zanderallen jumps away from the sign. He asks Micah is there is a problem.
Martisan tries to follow the shopkeep into the stop but is stopped by the line waiting to step into the store.
The same guy that was talking to K replies to you. “Don’t worry about her. She’s a bit of a lemon. I’ve met many other Float residents that missed this place. It’s a bit of a whole in the ground and the people around here are not the friendliest. I would avoid the level all together if it wasn’t for this store, oh and Silverwing's Palace of Lavation. That place is amazing!”
“Oh, I know Avril,” he says. “I’ve been here about an hour waiting. She was here about thirty minutes ago. I think she went down the street. That Gunslinger, named Casey… I think… knows her. He acknowledges Zanderallen's question which a slight shrug then approaches the table.Reaching out to the scrolls, he asks "May I?" Being too distracted by this individual, however, he fails to note anything though [perception 7] and returns it.
"We were told that the bard, Avril ONeal might be able to help us. Do you perhaps know where we might find her or when she might return?" Micah asks the gunslinger amiably, being sure to keep his hands clearly in view and in a peaceful posture. [Diplomacy 23]

As her attention is turned towards the gunslinger and the stuff he's guarding, Stohp notices the headline on the parchment. Immediately she looks closer, but she can't read the story from were she is standing. If the gunslinger doesn't object to Micah looking, she looks over the scroll herself to read the full story. Even if he doesn't, her paranoid mind still starts doing mental acrobatics; could she be in danger due to her story? Turning to the gunslinger, she supports Micah's efforts to get information (aid another, +2 if I beat 10. Diplomacy 12, success).
"Casey is it? We're adventurers investigating the Hands of Love. I note this story here is about them so it's really important we talk to her and compare notes." No need to mention her suspicions yet, it would just make him think she was crazy. Her evidence is extraordinarily thin.

This guy...K likes this guy. Maybe he's saying this stuff because K's got a symbol of Flower on his chest, but he likes him anyway. He nods at what the guy is saying. "I hear you, buddy. I hear you."
He watches his new friends go to work immediately on the gunslinger he pointed out. All business, they are. He's a bit disappointed when he hears she's left. Probably means they won't be visiting this taxidermy shop. He makes a note to return some day.
"So," he continues w/ his new friend. "Having issues with passionate kids lately?"
Happiness Is A Warm ... (DM Cayzle) Friday May 13th, 2016 8:05:46 PM
Micah notices the gunslinger’s interest and approaches the scrolls. “May I?” he asks.
“You need to pay for it. Ten silver pieces. But for you, the sale price is but a gold.” The man says ... but Micah returns the paper after a glance.
Casey, the gunslinger, smiles a bit when you mention Avril’s name but the smile disappears. “Are you the passionate type? I don’t like those handsy guys with all that passion. If you are Hands of Love you can just leave. You need to leave Avril alone.” Casey’s voice rises.

Stohp Tries the read the paper and waits for Micah to finish the conversation.
Casey looks up at the minotaur and growls. With some effort he settles down and tells the group that Avril runs around town selling the scrolls.
Zanderallen searches for the source of the information that Stohp seems to have. Meanwhile, Casey listens to your words and makes a snap judgement. “You seem to be a decent bunch,” Casey says, as he adjusts a crossbow strapped to his hip.
“Avril headed thataways.” He points northeast down Ruby Walk. “She should be back here soon. You can wait for her or track her down. A large group approaching her may frighten her. Tell her Casey sent you, if you decide to go.”
K is enjoying the conversation with the guy in line as it moves forward. He reluctantly leaves the line and the guy cheerfully says goodbye as it is his turn to enter the taxidermist’s. K joins the others.

Martisan thinks, not understanding the man's meaning, but glad to have gotten a bit of info from K's new friend. At least this guy seems to have the right idea about love, little that I know about it. Seeing her other companions already speaking with the gunslinger, Martisan joins them, eyeing the scrolls curiously (Perception 25).
"How long has Avril been gone?" She asks Casey, tone calm to keep from worrying the man further (Sense Motive 19), although she's worried herself that Avril's outspoken opposition to the Hands might've gotten her in trouble. Picking up a scroll from the stack, she gives the man a goldpiece. "Some discount." She mutters, unrolling and skimming through the scroll to confirm what she already read, before handing the paper to Zanderallen. "The bard knows something about the Hands, alright," Martisan tells him, giving the scroll a light shake. "Or at least she thinks she knows enough to write about it."
Turning back to the gunslinger, she offers a small curtsey. "Name's Martisan. We call ourselves the Silver Shield - new adventuring group on The Fence. We are certainly not the Hands of Love. We're actually looking for the girl Avril mentions in this article." She gives the scroll another shake, "At the behest of her father. We're just hoping your friend Avril might have some information for us."
Looking to her companions, Martisan nods in the direction their hopeful contact went. "Shall we go after her?"

That way we won't look like a mob trying to chase her down. The group that goes checks back in here in 30 minutes so if she returns you won't be stuck waiting to long."
Stohp remembers someone mentioning Avril had been gone half an hour, so half an hour should be plenty of time to catch up to her if she isn't on her way back.

"A fella in line said he'd been waiting for an hour, and saw Avril about thirty minutes ago,so that should work. I'll wait here - maybe I'll have time to get inside the store and take a look around."
She offers the Float City Times scroll to the others in the party, taking the paper back after everyone that wants to gets a chance to read it. Pulling out her journal, she refolds the scroll and tucks it inside the leather-bound book, putting both back in her pack as she makes her way to the line waiting to enter Professor Nightshade's Taxidermy.

Martisan asks Casey about how long Avril had been gone, and he replies that she left a half hour ago. Martisan introduces herself and the Silver Shield.
“Oh my,” Casey says. “That sounds serious but like I said she should be back in a bit.”
Stohp advises they split the group up to not frighten the bard.
K giggles after making a silly word play then also suggests splitting up.
Martisan decides to stay and wait then stands at the end of the line into the Taxidermy shop.
Micah takes a looks at the scroll and decides to stay. He extends a hand and introduces himself. Casey takes the handshake. It’s a bit of a squeeze. The big man would make an asset in a battle, for sure.
Zanderallen also decides to stay. He asks Martisan about a spell.
Casey settles on a stool. “Two of you are going to head down the street and the rest are going to stay? Is that correct?”
He suddenly stood up, bumping his head upon the top of the cart.

Micah is a bit embarrassed by his success at selling the Times, and wonders if it might draw some attention to themselves. Pondering this, he thinks it might not be a bad thing.
"This Briselda seems to be in pretty deep," muses Micah aloud.
Micah is good at reading people, but it does not take much ability to read what Casey is feeling. In response to Avril's offhand reference to him he comments, "He seems more a devoted guardian than a mere hired brute." Not wishing to create an embarrassing moment, he continues, "As Martisan said, we should be off to the races." As he sells he looks and asks for the Azure Junction as well as any signs of the races.
The money he earns selling scrolls is carefully stowed inside his tunic.
Stohp is impressed by the other's ability to sell scrolls, though she doesn't participate herself; she always makes sure to care some gold. Noting that the party is ready to leave, she debates putting on her hat of disguise so that at least one of them can look around without the Hands noticing them; they already know what their group looks like. Zanderallen, a little excited by how successful he was, tucks the gold into his pouch. He thinks about ways to help or advise Casey but comes to the conclusion that it's none of his business and he might just muddle things up if he interfered. 'Can't always have people thinking paladins like to stick their nose in other people's business, even if we're just wanting to help. Domi would have his courage come from within. Maybe Micah's remark will open a door.'
As the party heads off Zanderallen agrees that Stohp disguising herself might be a good idea, "Even if they recognize us they would be able to immediately locate us based off your size Stohp. Use a little bit of trickery and we might all be a little more subtle in our scouting."

Then, he's off with the Shield. "Yea, I get that playing it down low can be a good strategy, but I'm not doing that when it comes to Caeroldra's goons. Those idiots get to see me coming."

“Don’t be embarrassed,” Avril replied when she saw Micah’s face. “The Floating Times is quite popular around here. I had no doubts you would see a few.”
"This Briselda seems to be in pretty deep," muses Micah aloud.
“I only know her through meeting her that time,” says Avril. “I’m not aware of how deep she may be mixed in with them. She did seem comfortable. She was hanging on one of them.”
When Micah mentions Casey, she replies, “Oh, Casey is the best guy for the job. He has been there for me since we met two weeks ago.” Avril is oblivious to his affection toward her.
Stohp debates over disguising herself. She is a bit concerned over any commotion they could be making by selling the scrolls.
Martisan follows and warns Stohp about the timing of magic. But so long as she is careful with it, the minotaur should have no problem sustaining the illusion. A bigger issue, maybe -- what would she disguise herself as? The item can only seemingly reduce height by a foot or so.
Zanderallen advises Stohp that a disguise may be a good idea. He figures by disguising her size it could help.
Zanderallen is a bit thrilled with his profits as a salesperson, and he tucks the extra gold into his pouch. He really wants to help Casey, but let’s face it. He is a big guy and he can handle himself.
As Zander tucks away his gold, he sees a parchment he did not put there. It is a note from Eldrich! It reads, “My friends, forgive my hasty departure and this note. I admit that I am ashamed for myself and my friend. But I am hoping to ask you for a favor. When you get to the arena, seek out the Turtlebook. Avril can help you find him, but he commonly conducts business in the Octopus’s Garden. Perhaps you can ask him to consider his terms? Find a way to convince him to reduce our debt? This asks a lot, I know, but I do not fear for you the way I fear for myself and Matheus. With eternal thanks -- Eldrich.”
The Silver Shield makes their way through the afternoon traffic. People jostling their way through life. There are a few guards patrolling the streets but they are private security, more or less. The Officers of Caeroldra seem to be absent till you turn onto Main Street.
The Officers of Caeroldra seem to be sorted throughout the street. They are casually strolling around the street talking amongst themselves.
Azure’s Gold Exchange sits near the back of Azure Junction. It towers over everything and it is sheened in gold. As you look at it you notice it is nearly a foot below the large Iron rafters holding together the next floor up. It blocks out a large portion of the sun that shines down on the Gold Level, casting a bit of a shadow onto the street.
Inside Azure Junction you see a busy scene with a wide range of creatures. The Gold Level is truly cosmopolitan. They are all milling around shops of every kind. A vendor sells scorpion meat on a skewer. A silver dealer is mixed in with clothing vendors. You notice some people dressed in yellow outfits hanging near one of them. Gold vendors seem to be the most prominent. You see people wearing the holy symbols of almost every god and immortal power of the Wold.
Avril points to an alley off the Junction. “That-away,” she says.

K's skin bristles. He reminds himself that the officers are likely decent enough folks who got suckered into joining this ridiculous organization. Who doesn't want to be told that following their passion above all else is a good thing? It's not his job to beat sense into them, but he really, really wants to.
Best to focus on Briselda for now. He takes a breath, nods thanks to Avril, and heads off towards the alley.
Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 15/10/15 CMD:13 Friday May 20th, 2016 10:35:19 AM
He shares the tension he senses in K. He takes a deep breath and then releases it before purposefully stepping forward. To be less threatening while walking among the servants of the Hand, Micah contemplates the sight of a well tempered piece of steel coming out of the furnace to put a genuine smile on his face.
Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 17/14/13 CMB: +5 CMD: 14 d20+6=12 ; d20+17=35 ; Friday May 20th, 2016 12:02:11 PM
Partway to their destination, while the Officers are still absent, Stohp excuses herself from the group and steps into an empty alley. After making sure no one is around to watch her (perception 12), she puts on her hat. She briefly considers turning into Grokk, but she doubts he'd appreciate her using his image for this. Still she's inspired by him, so she takes the form of a large-bellied well to do merchant, making sure to look nothing like Grokk though (Disguise 35). Black fur instead of brown and very different horns.
She practice her deep manly Taur voice for a bit, then strolls out onto the street. Rather then rejoin the group she follows them, strolling behind them a ways in a rolling gait and humming in a deep bass to herself. She plans her approach as she walks along behind.
Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 AC: 17 T: 11 FF: 16 CMD: 15 Party Treasury Friday May 20th, 2016 5:00:06 PM
Zander tenses when Avril tells of Briselda hanging on one of the other member of the Hand. In his mind is a very clear picture of his hammer knocking some sense into some member of the Hand. But best not to start a brawl in the middle of the Gold level.
He hopes the taur following them is Stohp, especially since she excused herself right before this fellow showed up. That should make it a little harder for the Hand to spot them in a crowd. Zander realizes that he is already thinking of the Hand as enemies to be outmaneuvered, and quickly follows up on the realization with a second that he's fine thinking of them as such. His face lights up in a smile at the thought of knocking some sense into them, subconsciously following Micah's lead.
Octopus Gardens -- Girl ... (DM Mstitt) Friday May 20th, 2016 10:01:24 PM K's a bit apprehensive when they approach the officers, but they all seem uninterested in the group. They talk amongst themselves. They strive to be passionate about everything. Family, sports and of course gambling. The conversations about the turtle races increase as you get closer and step into the alley.
Micah shares the tension he senses in K. He takes a deep breath and then releases it before purposefully stepping forward. He walks past the guards. He holds himself stiff which creates some interesting looks but the Hands continue talking.
Stohp adds the hat but is unsure anyone is watching her. She turns into a large-bellied, well to-do merchant Taur.
Stohp stays back from the group and watches as the busy Junction continues to buzz with activity.
The alley way is partially clear. Most of the residents hang around the merchants and talk amongst themselves. You can hear a conversation from someone inside the alley.
Avril leads you deep into the alley, around a corner, and around a second corner. The alley opens up, and there are a few people just hanging out.
Sense Motive DC13: Highlight to display spoiler: {The people loitering here seem well dressed for your typical back-alley crowd. And they seem to be waiting.}
Perception DC15: Highlight to display spoiler: { You notice that there is a hole in one of the buildings ... at street level. It looks a bit like a rat hole, and you’ve seen enough of those recently to know. But there’s something about it ... it’s cleanliness? The square edges?}
With your arrival, the total number of loiterers seem to have reached a critical number.
Sense Motive DC16: Highlight to display spoiler: {The people hanging out here all seem oriented toward ... what’s that? A hole in a building’s wall, down at street level?.} Avril nudges you and whispers, “Just go along and enjoy the ride!” From nowhere a couple appears and pushes through the crowd. “I told you Ruz this was the wrong way.” Says a short goblin-isk woman with thick framed glasses and blond hair. It’s a bit of a sight to see. Her husband is a little taller, green with wire-framed glasses and a frantic look on his face. “Snuzek, please stop nagging. This is the right way. It’s over here.” The couple struggled through the crowd when you You hear a tinkling of tiny bells. A fairy appears and the crowd cheers. You can barely hear a thing but you make out. “Hello everybody! Just stay still as I wave my magic wand!”
“Did you see that fairy, Ruz,” Snuzek says. “Yea, I’m busy. There’s a doorway over here…”
You feel some odd fey magic begin to come over you. Do you resist it?
(OOC: This is the end of the Scene. Everyone talk 250 XP for this scene.)
K (Carl) HP: 20 AC:17/14/13 CMD:18 d20+5=8 ; d20=9 ; d20+5=16 ; Sunday May 22nd, 2016 7:27:49 AM
K's single-minded determination effectively keeps him blind, until he sees some kinda hole in the wall. Instinctively, he wants to fight the magic that's gripping him, but figures this is probably part of the turtle races. He grits his teeth & lets the magic do its thing.
Martisan Odenthorp (Damarr) HP: 15/15 | AC: 18 | T:14 | FF:15 | CMD: 14 d20+10=11 ; d20+10=11 ; Sunday May 22nd, 2016 1:13:10 PM
Following the others closely, Martisan frowns as the busy plaza gives way to a crowded alley. Pressed in closer to her companions, with other creatures on either side, the astute, orderly halfling stomps a foot and whispers loudly up to the holy men leading the party. "What's goin' on up there?" She looks around wildly as the crowd cheers, finally glimpsing the fairy as her tiny voice pierces briefly through the din (Perception 11; Sense Motive 11).
I guess we'll see about this 'ride.' She thinks, alert for changes the unknown spell might cause.
Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 AC: 17 T: 11 FF: 16 CMD: 15 Party Treasury d20+7=14 ; d20+1=5 ; d20+7=10 ; Sunday May 22nd, 2016 5:50:13 PM
Zander realizes these people must be waiting to get in, (Sense Motive 14, Perception 5), but fails to see where that entrance might be. As he feels the magic come over him he immediately goes into fight or flight mode looking around for a source and putting his hand on the haft of his hammer. He shakes his head trying to steady himself and shake off the magic. (Will save 10)
Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 15/10/15 CMD:13 d20+8=10 ; d20+3=11 ; d20+5=11 ; Sunday May 22nd, 2016 10:02:28 PM
Micah focuses on Avril and her directions and is oblivious to all else. When she says to go along he intentionally resists the urge to resist the sensation of magic. Domi give me courage," he silently prayers as he feels the fey magic affect him. He tries to identify the magic, but is too distracted by the novelty of the situation.

Standing at the back of the crowd, Stohp nonetheless notices the hole (17 perception, sense motive 10). The party stops, so Stohp waits as well, and when the fairy appears she has to resist the urge to reach for a weapon. She doesn't like this.
She likes it even less when the fey magic sweeps over them. Not hearing Avril's reasurence from where she is, she resists the spell as best she can, mentally cursing herself for walking into a trap like a sheep being herded (14 will save to resist).
Octopus Gardens -- Eight Days a Week... (DM Mstitt) Monday May 23rd, 2016 9:37:07 PM K holds on tight as the magic takes over. Martisanfollows the others. Zanderallen searches for an entrance and is caught off-guard as the Fey spell overwhelms him. Micah follows Avril’s direction and is intrigued by the whole thing. Stohp is roped in with the rest of the group as the Silver Shields shrink in size. After a short time... The fairy magic fades away leaving a haze over your eyes. “Now where are we? Ruz, what have you done?” You hear as the goblin-isk couple begin to fight. “I didn’t do anything. You were the one that wanted to go to your mother-in-laws…” The couple wanders off as the haze begins to lift.
You notice the sun above you. It feels warm but shakes strangely. Perception: 12+ Highlight to display spoiler: { The sun seems to be an illusion along with the blue sky. }. In front of you is laid out an expansive, paved walkway. Everyone caught up in the spell, intended or not, stepped forward into groups of others that seem to pop in at the same time. Sitting on the paved walkway, five hundred feet away, was a monstrous circular stadium with the words “Octopus Gardens” printed in six-foot text. The text was attached to the building and underneath that text were large arched entryways. “Welcome to Octopus Garden’s,” Avril says as she walks forward. “They have wonderful Elf ears near the front door. You should try some.” As the group moves forward you see banners declaring: Perception: 16 + Highlight to display spoiler: {Week long: Hands of Love sponsored events.} Everyone else sees the food vendors lined up around the circular stadium.
(OOC: What would you like to do? Enter the stadium? Check out the food vendors? Look for Brisdela? All three?)

MIcah looks around in wonder. Seeing what the banners proclaim he points them out to the others, "It seems we have come to the right place to see what the Hands are up to."
Pesmer would love this place and how we got here, he thinks as he takes it all in. Micah looks around for any sign of Briselda, but is too distracted by his thoughts of his missing friend.

K (Carl) HP: 20 AC:17/14/13 CMD:18 d20=8 ; d20=18 ; Monday May 23rd, 2016 10:19:43 PM
This sucks. I mean, under different circumstances K could really enjoy this. But now, he's tiny and basically a target for any normal-sized Hand cultist who wants to do him harm.
He notices the banners (Perception 18). He also notices that no one's really concerned about this group of folks that's basically popped out of no where and taken over. I mean, passion's good. Heck, passion's great, but do all these people really fail to see how short-sighted abandoning all for it's sake is?
Dad warned me about this. The dangers of following blind passion are always learned too late. Your job is not to save their souls, K. Your job is to battle Flower's enemies and fight for those who can't. Focus on Briselda and leave the politics to the priests.
He looks around. How many people are around here? Is there any chance he'll find Briselda if she's shrunken down and wandering around? If so, he'll look for her. Otherwise, he'll grab some elf ears (assuming they're not actually elf ears) and head inside. He smiles his practiced smile, trying to be friendly. He still bears the symbol of Flower on his chest. It wouldn't do to be dour or rude.
Martisan Odenthorp (Damarr) HP: 15/15 | AC: 18 | T:14 | FF:15 | CMD: 14 d20+10=24 ; d20+8=24 ; Tuesday May 24th, 2016 3:06:12 PM
Martisan stares wide-eyed as the wold changes around them. She smiles at the magical sky-roof above, understanding that it's likely a miniaturized version of each Level's ceiling in The Float.
"Whoever's normally in charge of the Gardens here is either undisclosedly indisposed, or comfortable with the Hands' influence, despite their purported methods." She says to her companions, voice somewhat distant as she glances at Avril. "Either way..."
"Take care. Our first priority should be gathering more information - even if we see the girl we need to be careful not to ruin future opportunities through narrow chances taken now."
"Of course, we mustn't squander the opportunities that do present themselves." She says with a smile, following K into the stadium (Perform oratory 24). The small bard is eager to see the turtle races, learn more about the Hands of Love, and possibly find the bookie giving Mathieus trouble. She keeps her eyes peeled for the lively alchemist's daughter.

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 17/14/13 CMB: +5 CMD: 14 Tuesday May 24th, 2016 6:57:43 PM
Stohp is very alarmed as the world grows smaller, reaching for a weapon and standing warily, eyes darting about. As they finish shrinking and no danger makes itself evident she relaxes some before remembering the persona she adapted for this trip.
Putting her hands on her hip she gives a great rolling laugh, startlingly a few people next to her. "Gods that startled me! Who would have thought the place was hidden so strangely?" she proclaims to no one in particular. "Now how to find a guide..." she announces, looking about for someone
Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 AC: 17 T: 11 FF: 16 CMD: 15 Party Treasury d20+1=6 ; d20+1=9 ; d20+9=15 ; Tuesday May 24th, 2016 7:01:21 PM
Zanderallen is really not happy about what just happened but there is little he can do about it now. Moving into the stadium he is oblivious to all around him. (Perception 6 vs DC 12, Perception 9 vs DC16)
As he walks in Zanderallen debates his course of action, 'Should I try to find the girl or get her to come to us? Maybe try a little of both. Maybe before running off I should consider, What would Brother Micah do? He would probably wait and watch for the right opportunity. I guess that is for the best' Zander puts aside his hare-brained ideas of starting duels or asking after Briselda for a kiss to draw her or the Hand out.
He will pass the elf ear bin without putting any on, Zander never really liked elves, and try to figure out who is in charge of the gambling and any info about the Hand he can pick up, freely jingling the coin he earned from the paper stand. (Diplomacy 15)
