The tubular air elemental spins yet again and hit's Armand and Olrich like a big fluffy quarterstaff and with no TWF nerf either. (Armand takes nine (9) points of damage, Olrich takes seven (7) points. In doing so it positions itself to be flanked by both Mack and Carver. The healing surge rolls over the group and the spell seems to have more power than what you would think (all characters within 45' heal 24 points of damage). A ray of sunshine breaks from behind a tree branch and illuminates the area. it all comes together. That perfect moment. Carvers lance takes the beast in one end of the "staff" while Mack buzzsaws into it at the other. It explodes with a blast of wind that blows Gaston off Carvers back, Musses Carvers hair yet again and sends Mack back several feet before he stops. The wind stops and leafs knocked loose by the conflict fall about the party in the sudden quiet.

That is until Gaston gets the wind that was knocked out of him back.

Those Dirty Blasted DROW SCUM!!! They think they can INTIMIDATE ME! I'll show those sun starved daughters of demons who they are DEALING WITH. FOLLOW ME! THIS MEETING IS GOING ON NO MATTER WHAT! it's quite a show from the nobleman, he seems quite exercised about the whole deal as he stalks off toward the lifts to the Tree Top Tavern.

A strange look comes over Eclyndryls face, part wondrous and part incredulous. She makes some hand signs in communication to the other guards, two of which stand to attention, while the third stands to a split second behind. she begins the spell, interestingly her version of it makes everything glow to the naked eye. 1st round is much as you saw during your brief attempt at the spell.....The penultimate round will tell even more. ;-)

Owen frowns at Gaston's outburst. He flies down and alights near Carver and Mack, near where the center of the fighting recently was. "Who conjured up the elementals? We need to capture them and figure out what's going on...", Owen calls out, before lowering his voice so the shouting Gaston can't hear: Highlight to display spoiler: {"...so this loudmouth doesn't cause an even bigger fight upstairs."}

With that, he follows after Gaston.

Was the third guard (the one who was a little late in standing) the same one who came out of the bathroom?

If so, Leskni is very definitely getting quite suspicious of him, While watching everybody, she is particularly keeping an eye on him. As is Pella (I'm presuming the Empathic Link is enough to silently communicate this much)

He wishes for a moment that he had been down on the ground, instead of being perched up in the branches.
He quietly shakes his head as Gaston lets off steam, or gathers his wits and bluster to deflect from his actual state of mind. {Sense Motive: 6 Ha!}
{Two bolts available to be discharged in the remaining 46 rounds}

Armand turns to Carver and quietly says, "Does it seem to you that Gaston spotted that Drow very quickly? I mean this is a very large tree with lots of places to conceal yourself."

Armand walks after Gaston. Waving to 'Osul to come down and meet in the lift.
(OOC: is the lift like an elevator? Is it slower than the stairs? If yes to both, could Atlas, que the elevator at a higher location than ours and have it stop there to take him on?)

In the lift, Armand will give Gaston a casual once over, how injured does he look? Heal check 24 (d20+11) "Are you well Mr. Laroutte? You should try to calm yourself. Stress can be just a deadly killer as say an air elemental."

Armand will wait until 'Osul can join them. He will then channel energy to heal again, this time excluding Gaston. Healing 8 (3d6)

Carver stows his lance where he can retrieve it quickly, and trots to a place in front of Gaston.
"Gaston, stop and think for a minute. I know that you and I don't always agree, can you agree on that point at least?
Now I may not know very much about the Drow, but I do know that the various Houses are if not in open war, are at least willing to quietly assassinate a rival just to prevent the other House from gaining more power.
This trade deal you are here to make, will be increasing your wealth, which will increase your influence in Plateau City, right? So think what it will do for the House you are trying to deal with. If the deal succeeds the Drowish House will be gaining a lot of Power in the UnderWold, imagine what many of the other Houses are willing to do to prevent this deal from going through.
Now, let myself and my friends investigate just what happened here. On my Honor, we will get to the truth. Please head back to your rooms and gather yourself and your retinue. This meeting will proceed or not once we have determined if the Trading House that is here is responsible.
Please, let us do our job."

There are several different types of lifts available in the tree. the smallest and simplist of them are just a pulley and endless rope and a bucket. The largest one services the ground to the lowest branches. Most folk follow the "bark path", a winding path in the trunk of the tree that looks to have been grown that way. the trod of may feet have polished the wood to a high luster. VIP's and folk not use to climbing the tree usually use the "Fat lift" it's usually used to lift things up to the Triple T, Kegs of beer, Casks of wine, sides of beef...that sort of thing. It can haul everyone but Carver in one lift, or Carver and one other with the rest coming up after. so two lifts minimum to get everyone up to the Tree Top Tavern. it's slow, but it's also not taxing. it will take 15 minutes to get to the top via the fat lift. it runs on wind power, so sometimes it slower, sometimes it's longer.

Atlas gets low enough that he can see that the battle is over, you can see the party moving over toward the "Fat lift"

Leskni you do notice that the slow drow was also the one that came out late. The Penultimate effect of the spell takes hold and everyone starts glowing brightly. None brighter though than the Drow with the upset tummy.

Gaston Sure, sure, Do your job, I'll not stop you, but when you deal with animals like these drow you have to come out strong or they will see it as weakness. I'm going to let them have a piece of my mind and let them know that this kind of dung will not be tolerated here! I'm fine, only thing it hurt was my haircut

'Osul with a roll of 5, you have never heard such righteous anger and pure passion. it almost brings a tear to your eye. careful you don't slip coming down, though if they are taking the "fat lift" it mightbehoove you to just take the branch to the "bark path" up to the next level where the lift passes by.

Leskni continues to watch, but ready for the one guard to do something untoward.

She attempts to make sure that Ecly and herself are both out of immediate attack range of the guard, preferably with the other guard in between.

Bluff check of 24 to pass a secret message to Eclyndryls to be suspicious of the one Drow and to back up.

"Eclyndryls, I think you can get the best vantage point from here. Better in so man ways"

(ok Leskni is better at this than Paul :-))

Owen's frown deepens. "Gaston, it strikes me as unwise to refer to refer to one's trading partners as 'animals'. I suspect that they would take it as an insult. Maybe you should keep that piece of your mind to yourself; you might endanger the deal, and I'm not sure you have many pieces left."

With that, he flies up to the Tree Top Tavern to check in on Leskni and report the news. He tries to bluff about the number of elementals involved, to see if one of the drow will correct him, but he fails dismally (Bluff: 6): "Leskni, all that commotion was about twelve air elementals someone conjured to attack. Gaston thinks it was the drow who sent them, and he's quite angry about it." Hopefully he just appears to be exaggerating.

Owen tries one final trick to see if the drow are the culprits. Figuring that whoever summoned the air elementals had to give the commands to them in Auran, he speaks to Pella in Auran while watching the Drow out of the corner of his eye. Highlight to display spoiler: {"Pella, go ask your bird friends to tell us who did it. Just have all of them land on the culprit at once."} If any of the drow react, they might be the one who cast the spell.

Seeing the size and speed of the fat lift Armand allows Carver and Gaston to occupy it. He will use the path and race up the tree to 'Osul's level.

When he gets to 'Osul he will channel energy to heal again, this time excluding Gaston. Healing 8 (3d6) OOC that healing is from last post but apparently because of all of us being on different levels didn't take effect yet.

With the stated speed of the lift Armand assume he can beat the ascent speed by running the path. "That lift looks a little crowded. I don't want to add further weight problems so I'll just make my way upstairs by the path."

Armand will then continue to race up the stairs.

Diplomacy 15

"Gaston, just remember the goals you set for this trade deal. If you go off accusing the Drow House representatives of something that proves to be false, you will have lost your chance at any deal at all. My honor is at stake with this as well. When I was with The Mailed Fist, it was Honor the contract. Now that I'm not affiliated with The Fist, it's personal. And Personal Honor is all that I have. So please, if you insist on confronting them, try to enlist them in searching for whomever tried to stop this deal. The House here has it's reputation tied up in seeing this deal signed."

Carver has done all he can to try and temper Gaston, but it's starting to look like whomever wanted this trade deal to fail, might just succeed before it even had a chance.
Carver had heard someone say Drow, when the Elementals appeared, but they were summoned, and that takes magic. He'd seen Fist Mages use illusions to disguise themselves for special missions...
After a couple minutes of contemplation.
"Gaston, are there any other factors in Plateau City that are interested in seeing you fail at this trade deal, so they can step in and sign the deal?
My thinking here is some Magician working for one of your competitors may have set someone to send the Elementals, even in failing to hurt or kill even kill you, if they disguised themselves with what Mage's in The Fist used to call simple magic, as a Drow, would result in your taking offense at the only Drow in the area and causing the deal to be shattered beyond repair.
Now I ask you again, is there another Faction in Plateau City that would wish you to fail?"

Gaston, already upset, gets a bit more upset and Carvers words. Wish me to fail! WISH ME TO FAIL?! Every body in the whole blasted universe wants me to fail, pusillanimous simpletons the whole lot of them, no vision, no drive, no mercy and no loyalty to boot. Toss a copper piece at someone in Plateau City and you'll hit someone who has it out for me. but they will rue the day they crossed me...all of them. But as for folk who know about this trade deal, Everyone who knows anything about it is here at the tree.

going up the 'bark path' is much faster than the lift, you will arrive in...you guessed it...10 rounds vs 10 minutes for the "fat lift"

Mack despite your best unnerving stare Gaston is so wrapped up in his rant that he pays you no mind...that or his nose is stuck so far up in the air he cannot see you.

The Drow with the tummy ache clutches his belly in distress, a squeeking flapping noise is heard, just about the time he dodges back through the door to his room, the air now smells of brimstone, swamp gas and cabbage, with just a touch of poop. The door closes before the third part of the spell can take hold. You do notice though that the Drow around you are pretty decently armed. the single drow guard has magic armor, and magic scythe and magic bolts for his hand cross bow. The captain has much the same thing only his hand crossbow is magic as well. Eclyandry has magic armor and two magic rapiers, they have a much stronger aura than the other two's they of course eye you as well. If you roll Knowledge Arcana I can tell you more about them.

Owen you are going to have to hold that though for at least another round, while flight is much quicker you are still a ways away from the TTT.

OOC, rounds or normal is a good question... While combat has ended is Leskni still in rounds for what may or may not occur there?

If in rounds...Armand continues his mad dash upstairs. Hopefully he can see Atlas several yards ahead of him. "At las!" puff puff "Gas ton and others in lift." puff puff Gas ton mad, blame drow puff puff "for attack below." puff puff. "you go front of drow lodg ing" puff puff "I'll take rear."

If not in rounds...Armand will do his best to catch up to Atlas and let him know that a Drow was spotted supposedly summoning the air elementals on them and now Gaston is now on the warpath which could mean the whole trade negotiation could come apart. Also that in case something is up with Drow impersonators, which we have not put past Gaston's planning, that Armand will be heading to watch any rear entrances to the Drow lodging place. Atlas should watch the front, confer with Leskni, and possibly play bad cop on Gaston to shut him down and help not cause a scene that would jeopardize the Tree's safety.

To the Drow:

"Right now it is very unclear what has been happening. I suggest that we postpone the meeting for at least a few hours until we can try and figure out what happened. If it is acceptable to you, I'd suggest that all 4 of you stay here and not leave your quarters."

Assuming they agree, we leave their quarters and, out of earshot, fill each other in on what happened.

Key points from me :

"I'm reasonably sure that Eclyndryl, her aide and one of her guard weren't directly involved. May still have instigated it, mind. I detected absolutely no intention to deceive on their part. Which may mean that they're innocent. Or VERY good liars"

'One of the guards was acting very suspiciously. He was out of the room when the alarm came up and then took himself away before a detect magic could be cast on him. He claims to have a major case of Minotaurs Revenge. He may be an innocent but the coincidences were pretty big"

"Oh, and NEVER cast ANY spells (including detection spells on Drow without their express permission. They're rather touchy on the subject"

Key question from Leskni:

"Did anybody else see the Drow? If yes, what did he look like?"

OOC posting for Eric...

Mack stays in the lift with Gaston. "So Gaston, if we're going to confront the Drow we should have our story straight right? What do you remember about the Drow that summoned the Air Elementals. Was it male or female. What was he/she wearing? Was there any distinguishing marks?"

Mack makes an obvious show of running his fingers through his hair in a comb like fashion. Everytime he does it he looks at Gaston. Should Gaston start to preen and comb his hair Mack will always look closely then frown slightly and shrug.

'Osul stays alert - looking for an appropriate opportunity to unleash electrical inconvenience once or twice before the power of the spell dissipates of its own accord.

Eclyndryl Looks at Leskni strangely for a moment, then her face clears and smile comes to her lips. Yes! of course, it is such in our culture as well. The first to a negotiation table has the disadvantage! Ah, my sweet furry z'ultrama, you look after me so well. we shall be, how do you say, Fashionably late.

with that she barks orders at the Captain and he barks orders at his soldier...they toops check Eclyndryls
room, then retire to their respective rooms. She looks at Leskni, strokes her check and orders/asks softly. be a dear and come get us when the Plateau City delegation is in attendance. let them sweat a few minutes first.

Owen arrives soon after the Drow have retired and imparts his wisdom to Leskni. As they are talking Atlas shows up, puffing a bit from his long climb.
[blLeskni has a question for both of them,

Armand positions himself where he can watch the bank of windows that describe the Drow quarters, while nothing is amiss, it is easily noticed that it would be easy to climb to the window of one of the second story rooms.

Gaston waves his hand dismissively at carver Carver then goes back to his fuming.

this leave Mack and 'Osul to escort the Plateau city delegation to the Tree top Tavern

OOC : I REALLY like the way that you're playing the Drow. You're doing a very good job of portraying a quite alien culture while still staying within all the tropes for the race. Well done

Once we get together

"The only real idea that I have to try and decide what happened would be to go in to the room AFTER the Drow delegation has left and see if the plants I left in their rooms (Especially the fern in the bathroom) saw anything. But at the moment it seems like SOMEBODY just wanted to disrupt the talks. Perhaps the best thing is to just proceed as if nothing happened?"

Armand thoughtfully rubs his chin. He attempts to get as close as possible without endangering himself of falling. He is looks carefully at the exterior windows. Is there any evidence of scrapes or such that would indicate something or someone has recently climbed from one window to another?

Perception 9, (d20+4). Apparently he cannot get close enough to see anything.

He cast's light on the tip of his glaive and begins waving it overhead, and to the side, in an attempt to attract the attention of the someone at the front of the building.

As is the way of such things, when getting folk together it's kind of like herding cats! but eventually all arrive at the Tree Top Tavern and generally mill around in the meeting room waiting on the drow delegation to arrive. Gaston is Pi...very very irate at being held waiting. (I'm going to assume that Leskni goes and gets them...sorry, in this case I think RPing the whole deal would slow things down too much).

As the Drow delegation walks in, Gaston lets loose with a tirade of profanity, and accuses the Drow of poisoning the trade deal. Eclyndryl responds with a very nice Imperious look and a scathing reply delivered in a voice so cold it would make a remorhaz shiver My name is Eclyndryl ne Lidrly Ortandanara, Senior Sister of House Dul'g, and you, worm, will keep a civil tongue in your head or I will cut it out myself. Pissant, we come here in peace and you accuse us of treachery! What proof do you have it was my people?

Her guards draw their weapons and the air takes on that breathless quiet quality it gets just before things go pear shaped. (that means really really bad to those not in the know).

Laughingwater has a neat combination of "stunned" and "just swallowed spider" written on his face.

Miles has his back to the wall and his eyes are scanning about looking for an advantage

Ciryadryl is backing away towards the door,

Olrichsteps in front of Gaston his spear at the ready

Fletcher while eyes wide with fear, keeps his head enough to cast a "Do something" look at the party and he steps between the two sides and tries to diffuse things.

what to do? what to do? Will Gaston be killed? will the drow be killed? can the tree take this kind of battle? Can peace be restored? Will Boolia tell Laghingwater she's carrying his love child? It's in the parties court now but what will they do?

tune in tomorrow folks for the next episode of The Young and the Rest...sorry...The Tree of Parting!

"Both of you, please be calm. It seems obvious to me that some enemy of you wants these talks to fail. If you fight you'll just be doing what your enemy wants. You'll BOTH lose.

But I am certain that Eclyndryl was not at fault. I was in her presence throughout the incident. If, and I definitely say IF because there are many possibilities, it was a Drow behind the attack it certainly wasn't her.

I urge the both of you to keep calm, no matter the provocation."

She then leans in a bit to whisper somewhat sotto voce to Eclndryl (She'd prefer to not be overheard by Gaston but, quite frankly, she doesn't care that much as long as he can plausibly pretend to not hear)

"You are right, he is a complete buffoon. But, in his culture, stupidity of his order is not a crime punishable by death. Please forgive him his stupidity. Surely you'll gain much more by letting the talks proceed than you will by killing him"

She is only partly sincere on what she says so I may need the bluff (d20+13 = 18). Or maybe the diplomacy for d20+14=20

Carver, shield on his left arm, step in, shield towards Gaston and his empty arm towards the Drow.
"I suggested that you not do this Gaston, now it's my job to step between both sides of this confrontation."
Turning his head towards the Drow, "My pardons Mistress Ortandanara, On our way to this very meeting, we were attacked by a pair of Air Elementals, They were summoned by someone who either had the seeming or or was an actual Drow, I believe someone said it was a male Drow at that. This assault has all of us bothered, but Gaston deems himself above being bothered like this and apparently is ready to go to war over it. I won't apologize for him, but I am willing to explain the reason he is so insensed about this matter. I will leave it up to him to apologize if it does turn out that your party had nothing to with it.
I am not accusing you, only it's our job, those of us here as guards representing the Tree, to get to the bottom of this,
I wouldn't put it past one of Gaston's rivals to disguising themselves so they can put the blame on your house if this deal fails. It's our job to see this deal succeed, I'm afraid it may take a couple of days to investigate.
If I may suggest, have the meeting adjourn and we can get to work."

Armand adds. "If you choose to forgo your trade talks, then your enemies, of whom I am certain you both have, have won. For no matter what the only way you can return with some modicum dignity and greater influence over your peers is to go forward with these talks. Because if someone is out to sabotage these talks then there are already plans in motion to broadcast your failure. And if you should wind up dead because of hurt feelings then you will have even less chance of saving your family honor from your enemies intentions." Diplomacy 23 (d20+9).

He turns to Gaston. "Sir, you are a noble of Plateau City. Is this how such leaders act? Or are you made of sterner and shrewder stuff? Sense motive on Gaston. 24 (d20+10)

He turns to the Drow female. "Madam, we have not met, and I can only infer your character from what my companions have communicated. But is this what you really want to happen?" Sense Motive on Eclyndryl 27 (d20+10).

Armand continues addressing everyone but nodding toward Laughingwater and Miles. "We cannot be everywhere. The delegations are wanting escorts, and yet we must now also investigate this matter. I think to help ensure security that any guests staying in the Tavern, that are not Drow be removed. As well we would like a list of names of anyone that was staying in those rooms. Perhaps the Tavern should become an embassy of sorts for the Drow while they are here."
He then turns to
