Tinker casts a small spell (Expedious Retreat), drops from the wagon, and trots to the front while in limbering his repeatedly no crossbow and dodging to make a more difficult target. Weather the ambush was coincidental or actually meant for them, Nikolai will find out later, right now it was a matter of ascertaining their position, defenses, and attack. He notices Pru starting a spell and calls out, "Get behind a tree for cover and Pru, get a fireball over there. We'll chase the fireball in a charge."
His plan is for each to secure their horse to a tree and upon Pru getting a fireball in their midst charge.

The fireball blasts briefly lights up enough targets. They were learning not to mess with Pru and her friends.
ok - resolving last round and current round and we should be back on track.
As soon as the sunrod gives the slightest illumination to the area, Pru's Fireball gives its own harsh burst of light which sets some underbrush, and some enemies, on fire. 2 failed saves, full damage. 2 successful saves - evasion for no damage
Tinker moves up to interpose himself between his friends and any more bolts while Nikolai ties off his horse before it spooks and bolts. Michael charges up with Tinker and sticks a sword into one of the burned men.

Michael's target decides he's had enough and withdraws back into the trees. The other three each pull a bag off of their belts and throw them, one each at Michael, Tinker, and Trayvin. Tinker dodges his, but Michael and Trayvin each find themselves coated in a sticky mess.

Meanwhile the bad men step up to Nikolai and all stab at him with their Rapiers. Two of them land solid blows 5 and 5 damage and his arrow wound continues to bleed profusely! 4 bleed damage
To make a bad situation worse, Pru and Trayvin find themselves surrounded as as several more previously camouflaged men enter the fray!
Pru takes 18 damage, Trayvin takes an additional 28 damage and 4 bleed
One, moving more quickly than the others, moves up behind Michael and delivers a blow while he is still struggling with the glue, though he surprised that Michael manages to avoid the worst of the damage.

Though tanlged in the bag and only able to move at half speed, Michael is overjoyed that the bad man decided to close with him, saving him the trouble of trying to chase him at half speed. the blow hurts, but he manages to twist enough that it wasn't too bad. he takes a 5ft step to Flank the man against Tinker and flails uselessly at the man with his Rapiers before finally sending one good stab into the man.

Nikolai notices that some of the enemy managed to avoid the blast. They don't look like monks so they could be rangers or rogues. Probably not rangers. Plus his arrow wound keeps bleeding. Not good.
Time to see how many he can knock down and deal with that arrow.

There is a lot going on, and Tinker finds himself in the position to actually help...nobody. He has opponents directly to his front which prevents him from aiding those who most need his battle skills! So, he decides he needs to take out these opponents first.
Too close to matter, he drops his repeating crossbow in the gloom and, taking a step forward, whips out his urgrosh. The blade whistles as he aims for a strike on the nearest ambusher. And then another!

Pru steps over next to Trayvin [5-foot step].
She casts her spell carefully, using all her Mailed Fist training to guard herself from attack. [Use the Team Tactics Mailed Fist benefit to give Trayvin the Shielded Caster feat for 1 round. Cast defensively=30, success.]
Flames leap from her outstreatched fingertips, scorching her attackers. [Cast Burning Hands, and I think she can angle it to get all three of those opponents. 12 points fire damage, DC 16 Reflex save for half.]
Despite his best efforts, Tinker fails to connect with the man in front of him. Fortunately, Michael and Nikolai fare a bit better, and one of them falls to the ground.
Anna leaps with her enlarged boots to the defense of Trayvin and Pru, who are standing back to back in support of one another. Between her club and Pru's flames, another man is sent fleeing, though the other two manage to avoid being singed.
The two in the north reposition themselves to continue their assault on Nikolai, one landing a solid blow on the monk. AC29 for 3 damage
Two of them recognize the new threat that Anna presents and move to meet her, though neither can punch through her armor. The other moves to present an opportunity to the boss, and both of their rapiers punch through Pru's defenses. 33 damage

Though he can only move at half speed Michael moves toward Pru to help her with her assailants. of course 1/2 speed hasted is normal speed. he charges one of the ones attacking her and plunges his Rapiers into him, while flanking him against Pru of course. (which ever one is closest and gives me the best chance to flank. I am unsure fo the # of the target. )

And then, his axe slides through the air at Ambusher 3.

Michael moves down to attack the different looking one that stabbified Pru, landing three blows, though just as he avoided the extra bleeding action, so does this man. Nikolai follows with a solid blow to the back of the head, which leaves him senseless for the moment. fort save vs DC15 - fail. stunned 1 round
Anna is less successful with her attacks, but she is mighty threatening. Tinker keeps the two men by him busy, thunking his weapon solidly into one, though less precisely than he would have thought. hit, no sneak damage
Pru is badly injured, but she still has plenty of fire to throw around, and the two rays singe enough hair off of attacker 8 that he flees into the night as well.
Trayvins wounds closed up with his spell's application, and when he decides a better plan is to heal Pru's wounds, hers close up as well before she can take any additional damage. Pru heals for 26
Enemy Round
The big bad is stunned from Nikolai's blow, but the others still have dangerous targets in front of them. Both of Tinker's opponents land blows on him, and their attacks punch through his dodginess with seeming ease. 1st hits for 4, 2nd hits for 8+10 sneak (lvl 8 rogue overcomes your uncanny dodge
#6 continues to attack Anna, but is no more successful than she was. The other pulls a potion from his belt, drinks it, and disappears!

Nikolai is irritated at Michael for leaving Tinker to fend off two on his own but says nothing as he's too busy putting strategies together. He knows Pru's been hurt but saw a smoking bandit make a hasty retreat so things appear to be working out. Just get Pru mad enough and you might not live to tell about it.

Not that the "boss" is stunned, maybe I can get a little play with the man. Michael flanks him against Nikolai and tried to work his rapiers into the large veins and arteries in the mans legs and torso.

Tinker has realized that these men are not willing to fight to the death and quickly sends another one fleeing into the woods. Anna's club is more accurate this time and she deals some heavy damage as well. Trayvin is less lucky and both of his attacks miss the mark. Pru however continues to bring the pain, knocking one man to the ground and badly burning another.
Nikolai takes advantage of the stunned man and wraps him up, takes him down and pins him effectively to the ground. He yells out an offer of mercy if he would give up. His words are made a bit less effective though as Michael continues to put holes in him with his rapier. He struggles against his captor, but it is ineffective.
Only one man is left embattled with Tinker, other than the invisible one that Nikolai reminded his mates of. They seem a bit confused and hesitant though, what with most of their comrades down and their leader held in Nikolai's unyielding grip. He apparently thinks better of what he is doing, and he steps back, draws a potion from his belt, and also disappears.

Tinker casts about, looking for telltale signs that may give him an idea where the invisible ones are standing. He knows one is right in front of him since the rogue couldn't have time to move anywhere else, but the dwarf is too Wiley to fall into an obvious trap. While the two invisible rogues won't be able to coordinate without talking and thus giving away their position, the first invisible could have easily placed himself to where he could strike as Tinker moved forward against the second.
It always seems that Tinker's mind moves faster in combat than usual. For the dwarf dismisses that tactic immediately. Their opponents seemed little inclined to teamwork except at the initial ambush. Still, the dwarf goes into full defensive mode and backs up towards Prudence. His urgrosh and her spells can be effective together!

Michael, count to ten, then stand guard over the two of us and keep you eyes and ears tuned to those invisible ones. Anna, see if the man needs any desperate healing to keep him alive. I have a Healer's Kit in my backpack if you need it."

Between the ministrations of those so inclined, the unconscious men are stable, though they don't look like they'll be waking anytime soon.
Michael keeps stabbing the prisoner until he receives a firm reprimand from his CO. Luckily, though his strikes all connect, the prisoner seems adept at keeping his vitals out of the way. 10 dmg
Nikolai firmly takes control of the situation, setting priorities for everyone. Tinker is already keeping his eyes out, knowing his CO well enough to respond before orders are given. There is no sign of any of the fled attackers though, and the only things left are the crossbows they dropped after their initial ambush.
Michael doesn't look repentant at all, and plans to start rifling through pockets before responding to his orders. He does notice the rather nice looking rapier that the man dropped when Nikolai stunned him is sitting on the ground within easy reach...
The man finally recovers enough to talk, and seems to realize that there are no more stabs forthcoming for the moment. All right, you've scattered my men, and have me at your mercy. I assume you want to talk, or you wouldn't have called off your tiny, angry friend. Spit it out then! What do you want?

Tinker digs into his pack and tosses Michael a medium set of manacles and lock. "Be careful, rogues can pick locks and are slippery as eels." He gives a half smile, a private joke between Michael and the dwarf.
Then he moves around, collecting weapons and trinkets that may be worth something; tossing everything into a pile in the middle of the road. As he moves about, he cleans his axe and recovers his crossbow, constantly scanning the area. He pays particular attention to the hide locations of the ambushes to see if they left any clue. "Even knowing how they build camouflage may help the next time we meet bandits", he grumbles.

Nikolai sighs as he admits that he was confident the guy wouldn't get loose but his team mates just don't like to take chances.
He grins as Tinker hands over the manacles and Michael proceeds to hogtie the leader up. He lets go when he needs to and then immediately plucks the remnants of the bolt still stuck in him. At least it had stopped bleeding.
While Michael finishes tying the leader up and their abandoned equipment is gathered, he ponders what to say and how to say it. When Michael checks his knots one more time Nikolai props him up on his knees so that they can talk more face-to-face.
"Nasty business this, ambushing travelers in the night. That's not typical behavior of any goody-two-shoes. Of course we want to talk. It's not polite to kill one's attacker and never know why one is attacked. So If you are out here just to waylay innocent travelers and no regard for their life, we'll have a trial and execution right here and be done with it. But if you are just a simple lackey obeying orders from a higher power, your trial in town might go a little better. we'd have to verify your story, of course, but if you tell the truth, we'll make sure it counts in your favor."

Yes, we were hired to Cove. Don't know what for. Received a letter and a bag of gold telling us to go there and report to someone named Cybrine. It was only signed by the Sons of Pavilion, whoever they are. Sounds to me like some noble house wants something in that town, but can't make it known. They told us we might have some trouble from the Fist though, so figured we'd try to prevent you lot from following us.
Michael is thorough in his searching, and finds the following on Gerard and his two remaining men.

Maybe a modified pincer manuver would work better. Anna, Pru and Trayvin take the middle, we take the wings. when they come to hit the spell casters, Anna weathers the storm while we fold in and take them in enfilade. You three are powerful enough now that you will draw enemies to you like a moth to flame, we can use that in future battles.

Everyone pitches in as they truss up and begin escorting their prisoners - Gerard, and two of his hirelings.
Not too hard to go straight when the road is winding. There's enough room between the trees for a horse, and it's a bit faster if you know the way.
The chain is made of sturdy silver links of about 1/8 inch, coiled around a small length of wood. When unrolled, it stretches for approximately 30 feet. Altogether, it weighs near to 15 pounds. Nikolai is preoccupied examining the chain, but Tinker's eyes are good enough for all, and he makes sure nothing is sneaking up on them. The Agents are getting sleepy by the time they make their way to the next town, but they can deliver their quarry and catch a few winks before making the final leg of their journey.

Tinker shakes his head. "Bandit riff raff don't have much loyalty. I think there is not much chance to see them again." The dwarf keeps a diligent though eventually tired eye on the shackled and bound prisoners, and it is with relief he is able to hand them off to the town magistrate, whatever his or her actual title.
A quick bite, quick wash, and a quick bed are the order for Tinker; comfortable enough in a town to go to sleep without worry of a watch in the room.

Michael is quiet, for a moment. The folks who raised me with like that, when all you can think about is yourself, why would you sacrifice for another? it always seemed wrong to me, I was called a fool, stupid and a "mark" more times than I could count because I cared too much for others. I though something was wrong with me for a long time..heh heh...when really it was something wrong with them.

Nikolai refrains from trying to guess if the bandit Gerard would hightail it out of there or try to sneak into Cove. If he was a local bandit, the authorities might have a say in that as well.
"Well, if we meet any of them on opposite sides again, no quarter given. They've had their chance to get clean away," he says matter-of-fact like.
In town at the local jail, Nikolai explains the situation to the chief in charge. He explains (and shows their documents of authority if necessary) that these three are accused of banditry, including attempted murder, to be held for trial and takes the time to write down the events that brought about the accusations and signs it along with the rest of the Fist.
Very tired after all that, he still helps tend to the horses and wagon before going to bed.
"Rest for our spell casters is most important. IF we need to stay here half a day or so, that's fine. Might not be a bad idea to ask around if anyone recognizes these three we brought in."
When everyone feels rested enough, they push on to Cove. If given the chance, Nikolai will inquire if anyone recognizes any of the three and if they know the whereabouts of most of the bandit attacks.

There's not much of a jail in Squatting Crossing, but there is a room with no exits that can be barred against escape, and the mayor reports that a squad of guardsmen from Ailthmar should be making their regular rounds through here in the next day or so. None of the bandits are recognized, so if it's a career for them, they weren't practicing in this area.
Looking at their map, they see that there is only the town of Isben left between them and their destination. The Agents and their horses are glad for the rest though, considering they didn't get any the night before, and a long ride after a fight is not very restful. They take all the normal precautions, but there is nothing else to disturb them in their rest this day.
Gerard implies that he's seen a lot of travel, never having settled long in any one area. He had learned to recognize trails when he came across them, and always had a backup plan to escape faster than any pursuers might. Too bad he hadn't taken any wrestling classes though, as that proved to be his downfall.

Tinker is glad of the rest. In the morning he stretches, checks his equipment, checks on the wagon horses and the wagon. The dwarf quietly and industrially makes sure things are ready. Then a wash off and some flat bread stuffed with meat slices, cheese, and greens. A dab of horseradish and a mug of water is breaking his fast in style!

Michael awakens, his eyes open, but he is still. For a moment he is back in the slums, cautious that any movement will give away his hiding place...then reality returns and he smiles...he gets up, does his toilet and checks his gear and mule. He grabs breakfast from the Inn. Sausage, Eggs and homefries all covered with gravy. a mug of beer and a apple for the road and he is ready to go.

Nikolai accepts Gerard's story, not that he actually believes much of it but because he doesn't think he'll get much more out of him without using more forceful measures. It still is a mystery of how this Cybrine contacted a sell-sword that moves around so much. Since no one around recognizes any of the three, Nikolai is satisfied that those that got away won't hang around. Without their means to contact Cybrine's group, there'd be no reason to stick around. Not likely they'd risk their necks to try to break Gerard out either.
"This Cybrine must have many contacts working the towns looking for prospects. It would be prudent to count on him, or her, to already know there is a Mailed Fist unit in the area, or will know soon enough. Let's be extra weary on the road," he comments.
The investigations were worth it and gave the unit some rest. If only they knew exactly when that guard unit from Alithmar was to arrive, they could stick around and hand over the bandits themselves. But they really don't have the time to wait.
"Cove is not far. We have this Isben to go through and then Cove. See what you can find out about Isben and then we'll be on our way," Nikolai asks Tinker and Michael. Pru and Anna, gather up some fresh food for the day and Trayvin and I will get the horses and wagon ready. Then we'll be off."[/b]

These towns are fairly insular, and not much is to be found about Ibsen here. Breakfast is good though, and all are well rested, despite Nikolai's intention to be weary. He makes sure to be extra wary on the road though, and nothing sneaks up on them past their watchful eyes.
The next morning is similar in Ibsen, and nothing much strikes them as odd. There are no looks that are odder than they would expect from anyone seeing an odd group of armed mercenaries in their sleepy little town.
Finally, (unless there is something else they wish to do to prepare), they are coming up on the outskirts of a quiet town on the coast. They can smell the sea air, and the breeze is quite refreshing after many warm days in the saddle. There are scattered groups of trees along the way, and a larger forest slightly to the northwest. A natural cliff reminds them somewhat of the Citadel's placement, but instead of a huge building on top, a small path leads down to the beach, and eventually into the town of Cove.

Tinker claps Michael on the halflings shoulder, glad of all his companions no matter race, background, or inner demons. That all have them and yet work so well as a team!
The sleepy and slightly suspicious towns make Tinker happy too, and it takes him the rest of the ride to figure out why. It reminds him of his foster family's town.
At the top of the cliff overlooking Cove, Tinker looks around for a place they could make final plans without being seen or heard. "What's the plan? Boldly walk in looking for trouble? Pretend to be Gerard's recruits for Sibrene? Or something else?"

The hat of disguise might be useful though. I think Pru is the most well known of us, if she's a "man" that could throw them off. I'll put on one of my different colored cloaks and Nikloai keeps his hair covering his ears. and yeah, take off the Fist insignia.
If this turns out to be the plan Michael checks everything for signs of the Fist. clothes, tack and harness, ration containers. We need to be totally generic when we ride in. someone needs to check behind me as well.

My original plan was to enter Cove and report to the authorities. Capturing Gerard and the information he gave gives us more options. So if we do decide to go undercover, we should arrive after dark."
Nikolai does not want to make any quick decisions, not that they didn't have enough time to discuss these things before. But now was a good time too.
"Let's pull off the path here and discuss what to do. There's no big hurry to get into town anyway. Some things that would be good to know is how many ways into town there is, any secret ways, also. If we spend a night watching the road, we might get to follow some new recruits in. Who knows? Besides, this will give time for Pru to experiment with the hat as well."
Nikolai leads the group off the road and to a spot where they can see the road but remain pretty much hidden.

He then tries to obscure any tracks they left.

Off the road and speaking in hushed voices, Nikolai asks for a plan to adopt: 1) go in as planned as Mailed Fist agents and report to the Cove authorities. 2) go in impersonating Gerard, where Nikolai poses as Gerard wearing the Hat of Disguise. 30 go in as a mercenary band looking for Cybrine, having heard of possible employment from another group.

The Agents quickly start working out the details of several plans, analyzing them for holes and figuring out which one is most likely to succeed.
While the magic types figure out the best use of temporary powers, Tinker enacts Trayvin's idea and creeps up to the top of the bluff. It appears that there's the road they came in on and the same road leading out. The only other way into town would be a treacherous climb down the cliff face, though it could be managed with the right equipment.
Michael starts going over every trace of equipment to make sure any insignia are removed, disguised, covered, or otherwise obscured. Disguise roll to see how effective you are, please
For now, there is no sign of anyone else on the road. looks like you need to move half speed while traveling to hide your tracks - I'll use appropriate DCs should anyone try to track you though =)

Tinker removes his Fist insignia and rubs some mud on the spot to disguise that there used to be a pitch there. He also puts his urgrosh in the bottom of the wagon (as his most unique feature), and hefts his crossbow as his primary weapon.
And then, he finds a nice comfortable perch laying under a pine tree and watches the town and roads. And watches. And watches. He's got all day, so he makes absolutely sure that he tracks not only the road of Cove, but the water and the cliff. Perhaps there is a goat trail or even clues of a tunnel. The dwarf smiles to himself because after all, that's what a dwarf is good at!
And then he reports to the team.

Nikolai can't keep from laughing at Pru's humble comment. "Pru, you are VERY good at pretending you are helpless."
Wiping a tear of mirth from an eye, he continues. "We need to find out who this Cybrine is and the best way is to pretend we are mercenaries. That should not be hard as we are, in truth, mercenaries. We'll stash our uniforms and wear plain clothes, or, smudge that patch area. I'll wear my hat and look like a roguish type. A monk type would be too obvious. We'll go in tonight, by the only road we know of. Tinker doesn't think the wagon will take the cliffs very well. We can do this. Remember how the Eagle Fist behaved? We'll just try to be tough sounding like them. Just not overdo it."
Nikolai puts on his hat and tries looking like Gerard, then like a .typical ruffian with a day-old beard. His magical monk belt looking like a standard leather belt and buckle.
"How convincing am I?"
Shortly after sundown they start into town and look for a place to stable the horses and stow the wagon, and get a mug or two to drink and something to eat.
"Michael, see what you can find out about mercenaries for hire,"

It seems Michael was too busy finding every trace of everyone else's insignia that he completely forgot about the ones he was wearing. Luckily, Anna backed him up, and reminded him that he should wash off that temp tattoo he got before leaving for the mission. deduct one use of the kit for each person that you try to disguise, and give me a roll for each person - will take the 24 as your first one.
Come evening, Tinker has brought back reports of little activity in the town, and Nikolai has practiced his disguise and moderating his normally cultured speech for something a little more back alley.
Finally descending into town, The Agents come upon a small community of modest buildings situated on the coast of the Bay of Elenna, with two large islands a small distance out into the water, sheltering the town from any of the larger waves that a storm may cause. The name, ‘Cove’, now becomes clear, as these islands would appear to shelter the town from any of the larger waves that a storm may cause. The perpetual fog surrounding the islands looks like it would make navigating between them a daunting task.
The houses are a little worse for the wear, but appear to be of sturdy wooden construction, with stone chimneys and thatched roofs. One larger building, a boathouse, extends about 40 feet into the water, likely where the villagers would store their vessels after bringing in the day’s catch. There is no sign of any activity in the village or any boats in Cove.
The town appears to be vacated… there’s not a sound to be heard. Upon their first glance they will see a smithy, the fire’s cold… shutters on several houses are closed… a fishing boat is tied to the docks… a small and battered boat covered with a sail is tied by a rope to the boathouse… next to the boathouse you see a load of hay stacked against the sides. Nothing out of the ordinary. Or is it?

Nikolai looks around. Even a sleepy village would have smoke coming from the chimneys. Ambush weary, he eyes the pile of hay and the boat with the sail covering.
"No. We don't split up. See that pile of hay? It is fresh, no? But no one around to have put it there. The smithy's fire is out. Should have some warm coals at least. The villagers seem to have scattered to some hiding place some time ago, a day maybe. Maybe this morning."
Perception +13 = 21 He pulls his crossbow from off his shoulder and loads it. "My guess there are no boats in that large boathouse. The villagers moved to a safer place, like one of those islands. They would take every boat here to keep anyone from following."
He looks at the ground leading up to the pile of hay and the boat, looking for tracks that lead right up to each. Low Light vision, Survival +12 = 23
"We still pretend to be a random mercenary group. Let's look for what might pass for a tavern. Tinker and Michael, keep that pile of hay and boat under your sharp eyes until they are out of sight. Let's look for the village center. Every village, even one that just lines up along the beach, has a main building of one sort or another for official business."

Trayvin and Pru miss details in the dark. Tinker's eyes are a little better suited, and he picks up a few disconcerting details. DC15 There’s a broken bucket next to the well… a door hangs loose on its hinges… is that an axe on the ground?
Nikolai, Anna, and Michael all pick up on some real problems. DC20 That hay looks wet. What do you expect if you leave it outside though? But an arrow sticks in that doorpost…that's for sure not right, and is that blood here on the ground??
Nearing the market place of the little town, the Agents spot a person tied to a wagon wheel. His arms and legs are stretched out. Beneath the wheel the signs of a fire that still smolders.
Upon closer inspection you see this man has severe burn marks but is somehow just clinging to his life! The person next to him was not so lucky. His life has long since fled. The deceased man was in the militia judging by his uniform. When you turn him around you can see the markings of Ailthmar on his armor. There’s nothing you can do for this man save pray.
Before they can do anything for the prisoner, an armed man walks up to them, seemingly coming from what looks like the tavern. “You’re late! She’s been waiting far too long and is getting impatient. Where’s Gerard?! She wants him in that boat and into the caves immediately! You have the chain?”

Trayvin leaves the details of improvising a suitable story for the man to the others, and just focuses on trying not to look surprised, and instead look like a menacing mercenary.

It got so close just a couple of days ago that Gerard took half our group as a decoy so this half could get through the pass."
He digs into his backpack and reveals part of the chain, the end with the holy symbol.
"He told us to bring this but did not tell us what it was for. Since he hasn't caught up with us yet, either he's had to high tail it to the other end of bay or he got himself caught. Mind you, we're not particularly pleased the Mailed Fist has a finger or two loose around here, know what I mean?"
He stuffs the chain back into his backpack. "The chain stays with us. It is our only proof that this venture has any profit for us. Once we get confirmation from Cybrine what our job is and what the pay is, we hand over the chain."

Nikolai follows to the door of the tavern and waits outside, hands clasped behind his back. His fingers ready to give the warning signal that the bandit is returning.

Anna was going to help with the wounded man but her fist mates beat her to it. So instead she grabs a scroll of detect evil prepared at CL 3 from her bag of tricks (OOC: 30 min duration)
If they are still alone with the prisoner she will attempt to cast from the scroll. She gets it on the third try.
(OOC: 1 round grab scroll, 3 rounds to get the casting to work = 24 seconds)
She turns her attention around the village, scanning as she goes. She wants to figure out if whatever transpired here left a lingering evil presence. She is also curious to get a read on Cybrine and her crew if possible.
If Nikolai gives the signal that they are coming before she successfully casts she puts the scroll in the case she took the shillelagh spell she used earlier and not cast it at this time.

A grim Tinker, no, he tells himself, Daemar (so few know that name). Daemar keeps watch for the group so they are not caught unawares.
His thoughts turn to the team of Alithimar guards that he led during the recent battle, and what would be the fate of those that would have done This to them if they had the chance. Daemar is NOT happy.

Michael catches pru's eye, looks toward the door then runs his thumb deliberately across his throat while looking at her. He puts his hand on his rapier and loosens it with his thumb while looking at Tinker. I hopes that Anna, trayvin and Nikolai are of the same mind as he is. As soon as the head of the beast is exposed, we cut it off.

Trayvin rushes to the burned man at his first opportunity and casts a healing spell on him. Immediately the man's colour improves and his breathing sounds less laboured.
He has barely any time to choke out an answer though, between his coughing and a quick signal from Nikolai. ...villagers? in...the...boathouse...
At Nikolai's signal, he retreats a bit from the door, and just in time, as 5 men burst out, swords drawn. Hey! Get away from the Malister! Tell me the truth now, who exactly are you, and why did Gerard give you the chain instead of bringing it himself?
The men are just feet away from Nikolai, and seem ready to act at the slightest provocation.

Nikolai glares back at them. "If I didn't tell you the truth before, why would I tell you the truth now?" he blurts back at them.
"The Truth is, Gerard gave us the chain and told us to meet with Cybrine, then took half of us as a decoy to lure a Mailed Fist unit away. I'm no expert in this, but even I know that it is easier for a smaller group to slip through a guarded pass. We know there is a job in this for us and that's all that matters. You can wait for Gerard to return, if he hasn't been caught, or get on with business. It's your time you are wasting," he adds haughtily.

"As for what we are doing near the Malister...well we couldn't let you have all the fun...haven't you ever used healing spells on someone before so you can torture them again?" She continues walking over to where the Mallister is and gives him a weak non-damaging kick that she intended to look real.
