The group looking over the home as Blue fades into the building, As he does so, Evred notices some substance coating the areas around each opening that can be seen. Just as he is starting to look into the substance, Blue comes back out shaking his head and oozing from his ears. (damage 10)
In a loud voice, "As soon as i went in there it became filled with fog so thick I couldn't see and then someone screamed at me and now I can't hear because my ears are ringing."
No one in the group heard any screaming, even though they were listening very closely as he went in, but the results seem real, at least as far as Blue is concerned.
All the doors and windows seem coated in something, Blue is hurt and looking at the building, something is obviously going on, and it seems the entire place is covered in shadows, almost like it was something dark itself.

Barratore grumbles at himself again, how many times was he going to forget to pick up a Haversack? The potions get stowed into his back pack. He'll have them, just not nearly as accessible as they could be.

Standing in front of the building, Barratore waits for Blue and when the shadow returns he grunts once and snorts. Will Save 24

Barratore takes out a potion of Darkvision and drinks it. as far as he understood, they were here to find some person called Markx, not storm and kill everything and so the minotaur steps up to the door and slams a fist against it several times. In other words, he knocks loudly....

(sorry for not posting yesterday. after coming home from work, I mowed the grass. then came in and fell asleep on the couch for 8 hours.)

"This is quite curious!" says Emrys as he casts a Light spell on the crystal head of his walking stick, Black Sanguine. He then mutters a few words of divination magik, Detect Magic, and concentrates in the direction of the building until he learns the school of any magical effects that are present (Leyline: 55). Once he has made that determination, he will attempt to identify the actual spell effect(s).

"Aw, gosh, Blue. I said take a quick peek, not stand there and let a caster get off a spell." Evred bends down and rubs the shadowy hound behind the ears to comfort him. "I'm not liking this, guys. It sounds like Blue was hit by a shout spell. Sonic damage is one of the things that can hit a shadow without problem, and he's complaining his ears hurt. Whoever cast that spell must have been very fast and very quick on his feet to spot him, identify him as a shadow, and let off just the right spell. Perhaps we need to be more cautious."

Maybe seeing a God helped Edson not get spooked. Either way, it seemed like it was about to go down.

He quickly drinks one of his Bull Strength potions followed by his protection from Evil potion. If enough then he uses the Bless oil on his sword.

When Blue comes semi stumbling out of the house after just entering, various people react differently. Evred is shaken to the core that something really effected his shadow so much.
Some quaff potions and take a closer look around.
Barratore moves to the door and slams a fist against it, knocking hard enough to wake the dead.
Barratore only DC 14 Fort save. if fail Highlight to display spoiler: { You fall unconscious in a heap on the stairs}
Those at the door Perception DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { you hear very soft thumpings like something being quietly dragged and tappings on walls, all are very very soft and slow sounding}
The house itself seems to eerily waver in the gloom that surrounds it.
The door fails to open at Barratore's hard knocks and the windows are boarded up from the inside, now that you have taken a closer look.

DM JCCYou didn't detect any magic, but something is definitely not right with the house. As I said, it seems to waver and in shadows, even though the neighbors are only slightly darkened from the position of the sun

"Odd ... this isn't magical. If it's not supernatural, then it must be natural. Possibly a tear between veil that separates the Living Wold and the Realm of Shadow. However, there would be lingering auras of magical energy."

Emrys concentrates the Leylines of Woldsblood that are around him, as he does whenever he casts his spells. He determines their strength ... could this be a nexus point, he wonders?

Brom hears the soft sounds coming from within. Brom draws his black greatsword and moves up to the door. "Give me a shot." He says. He takes a swing at the door with his adamantine blade, deals 30 points to door and ignores 20 points of hardness.

Barratore glances at Brom as he moves up with his sword, Physical contact with the house made no nevermind to him. He didn't like that Evred had already bailed. He thought the man was made of sterner stuff. Emrys' statement puzzled him as well, "What do you mean a tear, as in stepping out of the living Wold and into another all together?"

If Brom's sword works as reported, Barratore moves in right behind the barbarian, sword and shield ready

Evred backs off a bit, being careful after the shock of Blue coming back hurt and the general effect of the house over all.

Brom moves to the door and unleashes a strike at it. As he hits it, the door seems to explode.
Everyone except Evred, Reflex DC 19 if fail then DC 14 Fort save. if fail Highlight to display spoiler: { You fall unconscious in a heap where you are standing}

Once the door is gone, Emrys can sense the magic, but it's not of any type he recognizes. There are hints of evocation, illusion, conjuration and divination, but those hints are buried in whatever this other type of magic is.

The tapping sounds are now audible to everyone that is near the door. Three taps, five taps, two taps, there really is no pattern to them.
Inside the house, there is a dense mist inside the first floor of the house, that blocks all vision more than 5 feet.
You can't tell if it's light or dark inside the house, because the gloom seems to be inside as well as out, but there is some light from the alley, beyond the doorway, it seems to be a room rather than a hallway, as you can't see any walls.

As Brom's sword strikes the door, it explodes of splinters and magic. The barbarian fails to avoid the explosion of magic, but his strong constitution keeps the young man from feeling the effects of the magic. He stands in the doorway looking in.

"Everyone alright." He says.

The mist is thick coming from inside the structure. Brom turns his head slightly and focuses on hearing all that he can.

Edson isn't struck by the explosion and is able to move up behind Brom and Barratore. His arms feel stronger with the Bulls Strength, and the bless and Protection from Evil calm his nerves a bit.

The group gathers at the doorway, there is still a thick mist like fog roiling beyond the door, even with his truesight, Emyrs can still only see 5' into the mist.
From somewhere in the mist, footsteps can be hear and from a slightly different direction, causing most of the group to get goosebumps, the sound like fingernails on a blackboard is heard as well.
The remains of the door is scattered about, and from a couple of small holes a substance is dripping, causing a tiny puddle to form on the doorstep, it quickly soaks in and disappears.
The mist seems to be staying inside the house, and that drifts out the door quickly evaporates.

The explosion flies all over Barratore, but nothing happens and he says a small thank you to Imod. "The one door Edson doesn't insist on checking eh Brom? If there is evil coming into teh city, this looks like it fits the description of the door they would use"

Sword and shield at the ready. He knows Brom will be right behind him and then the others will trail in. He also knows something attacked Evaris' shadow and he mentally readies himself for the fight. Adrenaline pumps, he takes a breath and with a gleam of excitement in his eye, Barratore steps through the threshold and into mist.

There was no spray of blood or screams unholy terror when Barratore passed through the open doorway. That's a good sign. He waits for Brom to enter as well. No searing flesh turned to ash or the wafting scent of bubbling human fat. More good signs. He gives a look to Edson to see if he was going to enter. He'd prefer to be sure that he wasn't about to die. The thought of his beauty being lost to the Wold had him a bit unnerved. With a deep sigh, he shrugs and says out loud, "When in Rum!" He then enters the open doorway just behind others.

It seems putting some distance between you and the terrifying haunted house was a good idea, old boy. Evred makes his way cautious back toward the group. giving a healthy clearance as the party makes their entrance.

(one clarification, while the door exploded, it was not from magic, it was from the brute overkill done by a certain character)

Standard rule for being inside the house:Highlight to display spoiler: { If anyone who gets more than 5 feet away from the group, you will be considered to be lost in the mist and even though you will know your friends are close, you can't find during this turn or any other turn when you get separated.}

As the party enters the gloomy home, they all stay within 5' of each other, or they'd lose sight of them. The continual flames, aren't really helping a lot, picture driving in a blizzard, all you can see is the area right next to you.(5 feet)
The sounds have now changed from finder nails on a chalk board to hushed whispers that seem to come all around.
Although "So, this is float...Son of a bugbear..." in a male voice can be heard, it started as sort of wonder, but shifted into what ended up as a curse.
The mist that seems to permeate the entire building makes it hard navigate, Barratore makes it about 15 feet and he finds a wall, but thinks he sees the edge of a doorway to his right. He notices it's really dark in the directions he looks that is furthest away from Brom's torch. It causes a glare in all this mist.
Those who have improved vision, really understand that they actually can't see further than 5 feet, something prevents it.
The group isn't really trying to be stealthy, only a couple members that usually do so are trying, so Barratore mentions finding a wall as he angles towards the door.

Velarin stops moving in order to better listen to the sound of other people rising above the hushed whispers emanating from everywhere. The Wizard also fails to pick up the scent of death, and pulls his Everburning torch from his Haversack, after which he realizes that all he will be seeing is about 5'.

Unsure of what to do in his current predicament, he has to decide between keeping quiet in case the voices are unfriendly, or calling out, as he has no idea where he is or what is going on. This location and all it's unusual sounds are likely magically created, possibly as a defense mechanism set off by whomever was talking. He decides to take his chances on making contact if possible, and hope they are not unfriendly.

"Hello?" he calls out in a slightly louder than normal voice. "Anyone there?"

Barratore encounters the wall and tells the group about the doorway or possible door to his right. He begins going there. the voices were the voices and until something jumped out, he would simply move on. Or until someone told him otherwise. Seems were not the only non shadow wraith things in here he thinks as the voice calls out. "Bad guys dont knock" he says back over his shoulder to Brom. Barratore voice then booms out in his best guess direction of where the other originated.

"We're here to help. Stay put and we'll get you" Never really occurs to the minotaur that telling people he'll get them may not be a comforting thought as he intends

Following in, Brom takes in the sounds and senses of the room. "Death is all over the place." He says. The wet and sticky floor has a familar feel to it. Brom take a moment to lean down and wiping a finger in the substance he smells it. "Blood." He says aloud. The barbarian is accustom to being covered in blood, as his weapon often causes lots of it to be lost, and is not bothered.

Brom waits for the sound of the cry to come into sight. He sees the elf enter into view. "Yur out of place, elf."

(Perception: 37. Fort Save: 11. A Blood Witch is sickened by the sight of blood?)

Emrys wretches a bit from the stench of death, however ... "Gadzooks," curses Emrys! What really bothers him is the fact that coagulated blood is staining his brand new, soft toad-leather boots. It took the cobbler weeks to craft such a beautiful pair and it sickens him that they may be ruined!!

Barratore does indeed find a door and makes his way through it, After a few false starts, in various directions, the chain of friends find an Elf standing in the room past a short hallway. This house is obviously not the same floor plan as the groups, things seem smaller, almost like the walls are closing in, but that must just be an illusion due to the mist they are traveling through. Some are more disturbed at the blood in spots covering the floor.
The hallway the group passed through has a closed door on one side.

Emrys is quite perturbed by the current state of surroundings that they find themselves in. His powerful divinations should be providing him a wealth of information. So he ceases concentrating on Detect Magic and begins to mutter other words of divination.

Imod help me, another talker Several of the others had mentioned blood and the smell of death. Sometimes it payed to not be overly observant. What did prick at him a bit was the closed quarters. Velarin quickly turns, expecting an attack due to the outburst by Evaris. After realizing that Evaris is having some sort of issue that does not involve physical injury, he looks to the rest of his current companions to gauge whether some sort of spell is affecting Evaris, or he is prone to such outbursts.

Evaris, still having some problems hearing, has stopped bleeding, but someone or something seemed to scream at the Half-elf.
Emrys casts detect thoughts, the immediate results are just the group, but eventually as the effect expands, there is a source of thought's above them somewhere. (closer than the next city level) Emrys Know Arcana DC 26 Highlight to display spoiler: { the Mist seems to be a type of Obscuring Mist, but it's not exactly the same. Besides the physical Mist, it also seems to have a psychic component to it}
Barratore goes over to the door, and with a little bit of effort he yanks the door open. Someone had seems to wedged it closed to keep it that way. Getting the door open reveals what might be the source of all the blood. a pile of dead bodies, at least 8 maybe more. Including the one that rolled out of the door when it was yanked open.

Velarin, you are a bit worried, a group is out hunting Vampires in a City, but at least it's still day time, unless you time traveled as well when you teleported, but according to the rumors you've heard small amounts of extra time have been happening with the City's teleport machine and that's why you attempted to teleport yourself to Float City.
Towards the front of the house, or at least it's the direction everyone thinks is the front, you heard what you think is a pry bar being used to open the floor. The mist is still filling the building and preventing vision of more than 5 feet.

As a thought, what time of day is it? when I left Plateau City it was mid day, and should have been here too. Emrys recoils at the sight of one of the bodies that fall nearby, "Augh ... ghastly!" He suddenly detects the presence of several minds from above. "Barratore, Brom, everyone ... I sense the presence of others above us ... at least two, maybe more!"

When he hears Velarin's theory about the possibility of a Haunt (Knowledge [Religion]: 24). "Yes, that is a very astute observation, Velarin. From what I've read, the only way to end a Haunt is to either exercise or satisfy the spirits who were slain ... whatever that may be! The dead could be crying out to be avenged!"

His True Seeing is able to look into the Ethereal, the space between where spirits, dreams and the weird dwell ... a border where the Shadow Realm and the Living Wold's edges blur. He looks for these spirits there.

Barratore winces at the pile of bodies. Blood and bodies in battle was one thing, finding them stuffed in a closet was a different matter. Barratore spits to the side to clear his mouth of the growing taste of copper. "Don't think that is a good idea Evred. Last time he got blasted"

Barratore looks and nods to Emrys, "Need some stairs then"

Why would someone be peeling up floorboards? Too much going on all at once . Above, behind, bodies right here, and cramped close quarters scraping his horns and shoulders everytime he moves and nothing for him but mist and fog everywhere. Barratore roars and attempts to make his own entrance to the second floor. His great sword blasts into the wooden ceiling.

There is a lot happening all around the group, something being pried open, bodies tumbling out of a closet and a discussion about some unknown type of psychic magical thingy.
Evred tells Blue to search around the house for other exits, Barratore suggests not sending Blue because he got hurt the last time.
A mind is mentioned upstairs and so is needing to find a set of stairs. The need for stairs is cancelled when Barratore cleaves a hole in the ceiling, now they just need a way up.
From near the back wall they hear a whisper, "Now.... you've.... done.... it...."
After the hole is cut, about five feet in diameter, a yellowish green mist starts pouring down and flows over Barratore.

Velarin moves away from the mist, and will do his best to avoid it. "That's why they were prying the floor boards above. They wanted to drop this little present upon us." (knowledge arcane: 35, religion: 20, to ascertain what this mist is likely to be, spell or creature. If it's a cloudkill or other such spell, and can be dispelled once conjured, Velarin will attempt to Dispel it(dispel check of 20))

Having looked into the ethereal, no spirits are seen lingering around. Valerian Highlight to display spoiler: { It reminds you of a Cloudkill, or at least it seems to, so you try to dispel it}
Most of the group avoids getting hit by the yellowish-green fog that started pouring from the hole cut into the floor. With the quick thinking of the Elf that the party found in the fog filled first floor of the house, the vanishes as he casts a spell at it as it continued to pour forth from the chopped hole. Barratore, directly below the hole he chopped, can see that the upper floor is clear of fog since the fog was magiced away.
Everyone is thankful for the new fog being gone, because those who were hit by it, are now more unhealthy because of it. (not not poison based)
The group scattered when the fog appeared, trying to avoid it, it will take at least 1/2 of the 1 minute turn to regather. It will also take 1/4 of the 1 minute turn for each party member to climb or be lifted up through the hole to non-fog filled room up above.
The first floor is still mist filled and from off towards the back of the house, somewhere in the mist, a door creaks.
Barratore cuts the hole to a larger size, so he can get through without squeezing and taking twice the time to get through.

Brom takes Barratore's lift up through the hole in the ceiling. He lands on the second floor with his sword out and dropping his EB torch on the floor nearby. Scanning for movement, he makes a circular movement about the room to make sure it is safe for the others to come up. If the room is clear, Brom calls for the All Clear, and then positions himself near a visible exit/door.

It takes about 2 minutes to get everyone upstairs through the hole in the floor.
When arriving upstairs, it's discovered it used to be a bed room, but the furniture looks like it was destroyed long ago. There are two doors out of the room, one is ajar and looks like it might lead to a hallway, the other is closed.
The mind that is senses is somewhere beyond the closed door. The floors up here have some blood on them that's fairly fresh (spilled within last week).
The mist from the first floor remains on the first floor and faint footsteps can be heard moving about down below.

With everyone on the upper floor (inform me if you are not) the doors are checked out. The one that is cracked open does lead to a hallway, with another door and stairs both up and down.
The closed door is approached much more carefully, people are nervous, unheard screams have struck and have been heard by their only by those so struck. Noises are heard from all around the group and the darn mist seems to block any attempts to see through it.
So the Door gets checked out and it is found not to be trapped or locked. There is no sounds coming from beyond it either. From the hole in the floor, a cackling laugh is heard.
Since there is no traps found, people switch places and the door is yanked open..... Brom rushes in followed by Barratore....
They arrive ready to chop, cleave and stab whatever they find. What they find is another room that's been trashed, but devoid of life, only a rotting corpse that has had it's neck ripped out, leaving a pool of blood where it lays.

Emrys is beginning to lose his composure. Everything about this place is conundrum and an affront to his senses, both natural and otherworldly.

“If this place is an illusion … I would have seen through it! If there were spirits present, I would have seen them within the ethereal, both visible and not! The magic here is unidentifiable, belonging to no particular school. The only barriers that block my detections are one inch of metal, 1 foot of stone or three whole feet of wood or earth … does this structure look to be made of such sturdy and thick materials. Barratore certainly tore through this simple wooden floor with ease! And yet intelligent creatures roam freely through these halls without detection and others leave false hints of life. I’m certainly not the only one who hears the taunting laughter from below. Someone is toying with us and Im about ready to burn this place to the ground!”

It dawns on Emrys that this whole experience is possibly just an elaborate ruse … a squirrel chase, to distract him and his friends.

The man was starting to loose it completely and would get himself killed soon after that. "Extra dimension or no, I think we need to remove Lanliss from this building." DMJCC You've smelt it since you entered, stronger and weaker, it varied depending on where you were. Being hardened Heroes, you've seen death more than most. Other wise you'd spend every fight sickened after the first death. I believe I did say it smelled like death inside the house.

A window is found and the alley way can be seen, there are the shards from the door scattered across it. A know direction is cast, and it registers what should be north, and comparing it to the alley seen through the window, it appears to be shown true.
With the sense minds, it still says it's coming from the direction of the room the group entered, or possibly beyond the room but not further than 10 or 15 feet. (other minds are detected, but obviously well beyond the walls of the house, 50-60 feet away or more )
The group considers heading out of the house, the question is use the stairs or just use the hole. The mist is still seen through the hole and can be seen coming about halfway up the stairs.
From people standing near the stairs and by the hole in the floor, a door is hear creaking, whether open or closed you can't tell, as there was no latch sound either at the start or end of the creaking.

"If this place belongs to the thieves guild, the Floating City is going to be in need of another. Whoever claims this slaughterhouse has a meeting with Gargul and Brom and I will be arranging the meet."

Barratore waits for a few moments and yells back up again "You girls coming? Or did we change our minds and are staying?"

Barratore is going to remain on the first floor, his weapon pointing into the mist, extending beyond his vision. There were people playing games here and he would root them out. Or there were vampires all over the place and they were all about to become the Floating City's worse nightmare.

As they take their leave of the place, Emrys will attempt for a 3rd time to read the surface thoughts of the mind he detects in the other room (Will Save DC 20). He has received no indication that there was success or failure with his previous two attempts. The mind didn't appear to fight off his intrusion, nor did it give up any of its thoughts. If this happens again, Emrys can only assume that this "mind" is simply a part of the ruse and not real.

The group has split, sort of, Barratore has dropped back to the first floor and asks if the rest are coming or staying. Lanliss is having trouble deciding which he chooses. Emrys senses that the mind, now that he's so close, is so filled with fear, that the mind is almost screaming in terror.

The minotaur was now even more annoyed. he calls out to the unknown attacker, "you're making me and Brom mad if you keep this up. When we get mad we tend to destroy things."

Barratore stays where he is. He was not being scared off by some second rate rogues and their parlor tricks. he had fought sightless, he could fight without sound as well

Barratore, on the first level, is having trouble hearing what is being said upstairs, but remembers something being said about a concealed door being found.
Evred shouts that everyone should run, because it's too dangerous.
Edson moves to the door that was noticed and after doing a look-over says, "Can't find any traps, but it's barred from the other side it looks like."
Emrys senses the mind seems to become more frightened as they fiddle about the door. It's not anything aimed at the group, just pure fright.
Evaris watches as one of the sneaky ones looks over the door, maybe magic can help here.
Lanliss looks over the dead bodies. Perception DC 15Highlight to display spoiler: { The bodies were mostly killed by hands or teeth tearing out vital parts, there are no weapon wounds. Also on the 5 bodies you find different tattoos. Two bodies have one, another two have a different tattoo and the last body has yet another different tattoo. These tattoos are done in almost skin colored inks in a very concealable location, but still accessible spot so it can be shown.}
After all that, Brom tries to decide just how to either open or remove the door....

Guys ! Guys ! I found something strange, Lanliss shouts, he then proceeds to tell the group that whatever killed these dead bodies did it probably with hands or teeth(no weapons were used)

Emrys prepares a spell that will calm the frightened creature and keep it from doing a desperate act that might get it killed by Brom. Unless it's obviously evil, then Brom can have at it without restriction or remorse.

The solidly closed and bared door resists efforts to open it until a spell is cast. The sound of the cross bar literally jumping out of the brackets and hitting the floor can be heard through the heavy door. Brom reaches out and grabs the door, pulling it open, it reveals a small room, not more than 5 foot deep and 3 feet wide. It's lined with steel, a small bed and chamber pot take up most of the floor, while there are a couple cabinets closer to the ceiling. Huddled on the bedding is a young human man, not much older than just out of of his teens if that old. He's wearing leather armor and it doesn't look like he's eaten in days or made use of the chamber pot either. There is days old dried blood splattered across the armor and some splatters are on his face as well.
When the door is yanked open, "Aaahhhhhhh, no, no, no, don't kill me.... please don't kill me!" He screams and continues screaming things like that.....
Even down stairs Barratore can hear the screaming, just can't make out all the words.

"I am fine Evaris, however it can not be said for the boy." Emrys begins to chant a few words of power. The words echo in and around the boy's hidden chamber and outward into the main room. Everyone is enveloped in a calming and soothing air.

His edge changes as the calming spell washes over the area. Brom inner fire of rage is quelched. "What's happening?" He tries to bring his sword back to readiness, but this unnatural calmness makes it hard for him to keep his edge.

As the young man is discovered tensions rise. People are worried about being attacked by him, why is he screaming at the top of his lungs and another is still wondering about the flesh colored tattoos he's found.
Between the spell that was cast and the calm manor Evaris approached him, the young man stops screaming. He's still shaking and extremely nervous.
He starts almost making sense.....
"Came from no where.... middle meeting..... took most..... making deal to work..... blood flying..... hid safe room..... feeding they were..... teeth...... must escape..... screaming.... blood..... took them..... feeding...."


Down on the first floor, chopping into the floor reveals the slab of whatever it that makes up Float Cities levels. It looks like granite.

Emrys is equally amazed and saddened by the level of horror this poor young man has lived through. The two calming magics that he and Evaris had applied to him would have made a rabid infernal hell boar purr like a kitten … and yet here he is still very shaken, stammering and full of terror … this is unheard of, he thinks! How has this young man’s heart not burst from fright?!

“We need to remove ourselves from this place. I’m casting Feather Fall on each of you, please do not resist. We can leave the way we came in … through the hole.”

I do believe the window would be the best and least painful method to get out of here, assuming it's not booby trapped. Since Barratore is still down stairs, I'm assuming you missed him with the feather fall, so call him up, and I will cast a fly on him, and we can all go out the same way together."

Assuming Barratore returns to the group, and every one wants to go out the window, Velarin will cast fly on him, and we can exit stage left.

Barratore pulls himself up and looks at the new mage and then to Emrys and snorts. "You called me up to leave by the window? That's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Barratore snorts once again and makes a bigger hole from which to exit. He was very done with the cramped quarters of this building.
Barratore uses his sword to blast through a section of the wall next to the window. Before exiting he asks a bit put off by the whole thing, "So we're tuckin tail and running. I assume all the way home and with knowing less than we did before we got here." Barratore breathes and exasperated sigh and shakes his head "I hate Vampires"

Barratore exits the place and flies down to the street and makes his way back to the front of the house and waits for the others.

"So what now gentlemen? I had intended on coming here for a bit of a vacation from my studies, but I must say, I find the predicament you are dealing with a problem for the area. I haven't adventured in quite some time, and I must say that this has heightened my senses, and left me interested in continuing along."

"It appears that my particular abilities would not be completely repetitive with your current group, unless you have another member or two not currently with you. Would you be interested in another party member? Before going back in, I could take a different grouping of spells. You are now out front of the haunted house, the alley way is a bit more shaded as it's getting later, only 15 to 20 minutes, but you can tell because the shadows have moved a bit of the top of the wall of the row of buildings.
You realize that you've manages to make it out of the house alive, but looking back at it, you see the mist is still on the first floor, but it stops at the door frame with none of it leaving that door frame for the outside.
You also realize that there is now a haunted house that is opened up to where just anyone of cities citizens can just walk in now. Whatever was used by the thieves to keep out people is no longer of use as the door is gone.

Getting the young man out of the haunted house seems to clear his mind and calm him down enough that he can talk, well as much as he does.
After a bunch of questions, he responds to the majority of them.
First, He's just a guild member of one of three different smaller Thieves guilds that are not aligned with the LoD (Lord's of Diamonds).
Second, Markx once the attack started tossed him into that safe room and told him to bar the door.
Third, Whoever attacked the meeting at Markx's guild's Safe House didn't walk through the door, they came in under the door.
fourth, there were about 25 people in the Safe House for the meeting, which was held to see about banding together to take the fight to whoever it is that's moving into their territory, which the LoD doesn't know about.
Fifth, He heard whoever attacks say that they needed most saved for later and not to slaughter them all.
And lastly, no, the guild didn't set up any haunted house to use as a safe house.

Evred takes a knee and places a reassuring hand on the youth's shoulder. "Young man, please listen carefully. I'm sure your guild swore to secrecy about what I'm about to ask you. I am a fellow knight of the cross-trade. I understand. Your guild is about to be wiped out, along with every other respectable thieves guild in the city. We're fighting vampires. Nasty, violent vampires. Not the genteel aristocratic kind. They are moving quickly through the city and leaving blood in the streets. We need to speak with your bosses and coordinate. If we don't, they're going to pick us off one at a time. You can take us to a safe house or whatever. I don't care what security you think you need. Just get to someone who can make decisions. Otherwise, we're as good as dead."

Barratore furrows his brow at Evred's comments. A bit dramatic, but it gets the point across. So vampires wiped out a rogue meeting. "Vampires are recruiting, and recruiting heavy. I think we need to let officials know. This is more than buildings now."

Barratore sheathes his sword, but keeps his shield equipped. "What's the next move?"

"I agree we should let officials know; the question is: which officials?" Evaris tries to work it through. "We are still relative newcomers, and fankly I'm still not sure how the city's leadership is organized. Is this the sort of thing to bring to the local watch commander, or do we need to go all the way to the Council? And should we tell more than one person, because I'd say the odds are pretty good that somebody is on the take."

So the investigations into exploding buildings has led to a vampire plot against the thieve's guild. How could these be related? Or maybe they aren't. Blowing up buildings don't seem to be the usual vampire
style.
So, one crisis at at time?

Barratore thinks the city officials need to know what's going on.

Lanliss has his own thoughts focused on the odd tattoos that one can hardly see. Tattoos are usually bold to make a statement.

Brom wonders if there are other safe rooms in the house.

Evaris agrees that the city officials should know about this vampire plot but questions who to tell. All of them or just one? which one? Tell it to the Watch Commander, the one who's job is to keep the city safe or pass it on to the bureaucracy where nothing may happen, or happen too late? Is there corruption involved? Someone on the take? Vampires in the City Council maybe?
He points out his dislike of rampaging vampires and whatever they do, they should do it quickly.

Evred tries to pry more information out of the young rogue by explaining that what happened to the Rogue Meeting was the doing of vampires and that their goal is to wipe out the guilds. The young rogue is encourage to contact his bosses and set up a meeting with them to discuss how to combat the vampires.

The young rogue understands the situation as best a shaken young man can understand. He makes it clear that he didn't know there were any rooms such as the one he hid in until it was shown him. There could be others but the only way to find out is to go look for them.

"These tattoos are Guild Emblems. Each guild has its own and we all know where to look for them. We catch a rogue that does not have one will get one quickly or never steal again, ever," he shakily explains.

It takes only a few moments for the surviving rogue to assess the proposition. "Agreed. The guilds do need to work this out together. Best place to meet is on neutral ground. Inter-guild transactions is usually held at a well known, but hard to find speakeasy. I will contact my Boss tonight and let you know when and where. How should I contact you?"

Velarin looks to the established party members for an answer as to how they will be contacted.

After the guild member heads off, he asks the group once again, a little more pointedly this time. "So you guys want another Elf in the group, or you have your own thing going. If you aren't interested in more company, I will find a place to stay for tonight, and explore other avenues of possibilities."

"If you do want more company, I still need to find a place to stay, and will memorize a different spell set for the up coming fun."

"Velarin, you are more than welcome to join us at our house. I did promise you some tea for elevensies. We could certainly use more of the magically inclined in our group."

Turning back to everyone else, "Yes, I do believe we need to inform the council of this vampire infestation. While it might cause panic in some of the populous, it's better if these undead no longer enjoy the benefits of anonymity. And there are simple, preventative measures that citizens can take to remain safe from these bloodsucking vermin. Knowledge is key and the word needs to be spread."

OOC: Somehow I missed what time you guys entered the house. Is it dark, early dark, late dark, or nearly dawn?

IC: The elf that erroneously teleported into the haunted house new wants to know if the group needs another member to fight vampires or not. Either way Velarin needs a place to stay.

Barratore pulls out a coin and the young rogue immediately recognizes it and verifies that the coin will get them into the speakeasy he speaks of. He needs to know where the group is staying in order to find them when he is given when to meet and where, as the speakeasy has been 'mobile' lately and may not be in the same place it was a few days ago.

Evaris tells the man that they have a house and gives him the directions.

Evred, now out of the house, is finally feeling the ill effects of the haunted fog and has to sit down and try to recover his composure.

Emrys suggests they tell the Council. Knowledge on how to ward off vampires is the best weapon for most folks. This might panic some, but might be a boon to the vegetable market, mainly the garlic stands.

So it seems a visit to the Council, again, is in order while they wait for word from the Guild Masters on when to meet and where the speakeasy will be located at that time.

In the mean time, being night, the group can retire and get some rest, and set up a guest room for Valerin.

OOC: so I don't load you guys up in a wagon and start carting you around, just let me know what the plan is. Shopping? Council? Sleep?

not knowing the groups relationship with the council, Velarin suggests.."If you all have had dealings with the council before, and can get a quick audience, and be believed, it is probably your wisest course to address it this day before any further meetings with the guilds or offensive action. Hopefully they will sanction our course of action, and give it more credence with the guilds. As far as the house goes, unless the upcoming situation dictates otherwise, I would suggest we take care of it first thing tomorrow. We do not need anyone wandering in to see what is going on, and we need to know more of whats going on."
