To Spell a Time
Not Then but Now

DM Dan K - Home Celebrations
Monday July 18th, 2016 10:11:57 PM

The following morning greets each of the Black Lions warmly and the group thinks over the gift from the DC. Tishe makes an observation, there are only 6 of you, yet 7 potions. A mystery to be revealed in time to be sure. First there were other things to attend to.
Going to the Catacombs, finishing some crafting, overseeing and helping with the last repairs to the Lion Fish and just a bit more rest

And so the Black Lions spend the day. Bonetown for better or worse starts to get back to older habits, though without a death now in 2 full days it has already been a banner week.

Jozhur does not see the girl as he spends time at the ship. The repair work itself it finished and now Tula and Cato just need to run inventory and restock the materials used. "No problems and no concerns captain" is Tula's official report on the state of the Lion Fish.

The day and in fact the next entire week is quiet and uneventful. Sure there are a few minor skirmishes and here and there and the overall joy that was exhibited upon your return home now seems all but gone, but no horrors arose from the depths, no assassins came at anyone and fate of Bonetown has not rested upon your shoulders all week. Brother Lansel calls it a win. Brother Engev has left for Rum, booking passage with a few others on the Mystic, a well known passenger barque. "I have some business of a personal nature with Pantheon in Rum" was his only explanation

Stories of an exhibition that left for the volcanic slopes reaches your ears as does a few celebratory bragging parties on several successful raids against the Rum Trade lines by the ship Blood Raven, captained by a Human called Talon

Tishe' (SteveK) AC 15/15/13 CMD 19 HP 91
Tuesday July 19th, 2016 6:09:43 AM

Tishe' has very busy days just learning about Bonetown, the Lionfish, and the Black Lions.

The house the Black Lions live in when not on adventures is impressive, bigger than any building except the Temple in Rattledam" she pronounces. And getting a room of her own after years of wandering? Priceless! Tishe' uses the space to arrange to her liking, her large loom and spinning wheel in one corner with lots of light, her travel equipment taken out of all the extra-dimensional spaces and carefully arranged in a table both for repair and maintenance and a bit of fenn shui. She speaks every morning with Brother Lansel, tryouts no to get an understanding of the town and harbor.

But talking is only one part of learning, and the ever curious Tishe' ventures out onto the streets to meet neighbors, important people, and the way of the town, harbor, and ships that berth at Bonetown. While doing so, she helps at little things where she can, using Rose's Temperature Control to ice a drink, Mending a broken pot, or Flying to rescue a child who climbed too high into a tree.

She gets to know the Lionfish Crew; helping out in Sailor tasks and talking about the differences and similarities of the ships here in western waters and the druidwood ships that sailed over the endless grasslands of the Sargrass.

And she talks the evenings away with the Black Lions. How she was born in Hook City to two Sargrass ex-patriots and grew up in a loving family. Learning weaving from her mother and wandering from her father, she took passage to Rattledam to learn why her parents left and couldn't remember anything more than the towns name. She adventured with the Bloodpack and ultimately learned the secrets of the Sargrass and saw the final destruction of the land. "Well, not FINAL destruction, I was dead then, but my friends escaped with my body and visited Gargul and I woke in the Creasant Valley. We formed a new group called Sunrise Song and repeatedly battled a nasty villain named Skalipy who didn't work n but always got away, which is why I studied the Dimension Lock spell."

But soon, the group went there separate ways and Tishe' wandered the Elennian Penninsula just learning and helping out. "Until I heard of news of your fight against Billooppl, and booked passage to get here and help out. Too late, but I am happy to be here!"

Reggie spends her down time working on the ship. making friends with the crew, and learning about the goings on of the docks and its work crews.

She keeps mostly to herself, but every so often flirts with the Captain hoping she might catch his attention.

Tuesday July 19th, 2016 1:38:58 PM

Zeoll spends four days working on his enchantment of Billoopl's Lucky Demi-Godling Tooth Of Powerful Defense. He does most of his work at night and sleeps in the day. Finally, the chance of success ... his spellcraft is +12, and he needs to make a DC15. He rolls a 16 and is pleased with his result! He seeks out a fine strong chain in town to wear the tooth around his neck. [OOC: PC sheet updated, 6,000 gp removed, amulet added, spent 10 gp on a chain.]

In his free non-crafting time, Zeoll visits Goodie Bess and her two allies, Wilhelmina and Mama Lupe. If he recalls correctly, Goodie Bess lives in a homey hut just outside of Bonetown on the coast. He is curious about their arts, and talks with them about nature, divinations, and the fey king. He offers them his help with any casting or item creation they would like. [OOC: Trying to suss out their levels and capabilities ... can they make honorary witches? (level 12)]

Rillett (MarkB) HP 87/87 - AC 23/13/21 CMD 20
Tuesday July 19th, 2016 3:32:51 PM

After returning from the Catacombs, Rillett is able to dispense some cash to the party.

"With the sale of our goods, everyone gets 1,000 GP for each of the 5 that returned and plan to remain in the Black Lions.

"That leaves an additional 577 GP that I think we should invest into the ship. I propose that we use 450 GP to purchase a Swan Boat Feather Token to keep aboard ship as a lifeboat, and give the rest to Captain Jozhur to dispense among the crew. What say you?

"Sorry Tische, this is disposal of booty won in our recent victory. But if you are in need, please let us know how we can help you out.

"Now, does anyone know how I make contact with the Woldian League of Adventurers? It seem like a meritorius group to join. I can take a couple of you with me if you are also interested."

Rillett intends to become a WLA member. He can Teleport himself and 3 others where ever he needs to go to join (or two others if one is size large.) Because he can only teleport once per day, it will involve at least one overnight stay there.

Zeoll looks astonished. "But, but, Rrillett? The Crrystal Ball alone was worrth so much! Arre you surre it is only 1,000 gold each?"

Jozhur looks at Rillet with a puzzled look on his face, "Did you get ripped off in the Catacombs? I never trusted that vampire fellow. There WAS a WLA post in Rum, sounds like that is no more though."

"What say you folks, hunt down these trade line raiders, check out the volcano? Other ideas?"

He spends some time trying to find out a little more about the expedition to the slopes of the volcano. Is it something they should be looking into? (Diplomacy: 19)

To Tishe', "We seem to have no problem finding trouble, I'm sure you'll be of great help to us."

Terser (Warren G) [22/13/19 -- CMD 27 -- HP 128/128, DR 1/-] (25% chance no crit, uncanny dodge, rage used 6/28)
Tuesday July 19th, 2016 9:09:24 PM

Such a sum! Please, if anyone is short funds to purchase something, please take some from my share. If no one needs it, there's several worthy causes in town that will be getting donations.

I'm a bit over WBL with this treasure infusion - so you are welcome to 8k or so between you

Terser shares his own story with Tishe, of his loving parents, but how he screwed it up for himself. Not living up to the family name, he was goven to the church of Domi. This didn't quite fit him either, but he learned, and it led him to the path he's on now.

DM Dan K - Home Celebrations
Tuesday July 19th, 2016 11:10:10 PM

Tishe spends her time learning about her new home. She makes her room comfortable and hers, she helps aboard the Lion Fish, which is more of just getting to know her way around and she spends some time about town and talking with Brother Lansel. Bonetown can be a dangerous and rather callous place. The streets are alive with freelance thieves, murderers, enforcers, and thugs. For this reason, everyone in the city goes armed to the teeth. Gangs are the norm for Bonetown. They rove the streets wearing their identifying colors and tattoos and generally cause trouble. Gangs offer their members a sense of belonging, a bit of power, and respect from the locals who fear them.
She also learns that her association with the Black Lions and part of the Lion Fish crew afford her some protections. Even still, it is no place to wander with your guard down

Jozhur and Zeoll are both concerned when Rillet reports back with the gold shares, but the joke is quickly unraveled and each member of the Black Lions as a hearty sum to advance their own personal evil smiting gear

Zeoll finishes his crafting project and Tula grins with a bit of a laugh "Billoopl's Lucky Demi-Godling Tooth Of Powerful Defense. Just rolls off the tongue." she says with a smile
Zeoll also looks up the witches and while their ramshackle hut is relatively easy to locate on the rocky shore, none of the owners are about every time the taur stops by.

Rillet looks into the WLA. There is a center in Rum, or at least there was not too long ago. The recent proclamation leaves its existence in a bit of doubt. He could Teleport to Rum and look into it

Jozhur does a bit more investigation into the exploration group that set out for the volcanic area and learns some information on who went but not why. A group of 6 set out, well equipped for an extended journey and well armed, "You know, dumb adventurer types captain." The group consisted of 4 humans a dwarf and a gnome and one of the humans was definitely a follower of Ffloy. Not much else to say on it. The Blood Raven not in port. Jozhur picked up a couple day old tale and she has already put back out.

And so goes another couple weeks in Bonetown. The celebration now a distant memory to the men and women who call this twisted anarchy of a pirate's den, the misbegotten evil twin of the Town of Rum home. Illicit goods, indenture contracts, privateer spoils, ransoms, intoxicants, and forbidden pleasures are the stock in trade of the black marketeers, scoundrels, and ruffians of Bonetown.

Zeoll settles into a routine

-- Sleep in late, Rise and visit people around Bonetown, to talk, to socialize, to gather info, to be a presence in the city.

-- He tells tales of the fey king and queen, but the tales have motives and morals -- to foster a sense of Bonetown pride, to fight cruelty and torture and slavery and the worst abuses of power.

-- Each day, he finds one person who has a question, and each night he uses his fortune-telling dreams to try to answer that question. Then the next day he seeks out the person to tell them his dream. He also passes out cures freely.

-- He still hopes to find the local witches and speak with them, offer his services, make friends.

-- Then in the evening, he does his crafting. Over the next two weeks, he crafts several magic items, and after speaking with Tishe, she agreed to help him craft one. He makes a Horn of Fog (DC13, rolled a 21, cost 1,500 and 1 day), a Horn of Good and Evil (DC20, rolled a 24, cost 4,875 gp and 4 days), and a Cape of the Mounteback (DC19, rolled a 25, cost 8,100 and 6 days). In total, Zeoll uses 14,475 gold and 11 days to do it.

[OOC: PC Sheet updated]

Edit: Diplomacy rolls for talking to people and Gather Info rolls for finding stuff out are both at a +22 for Zeoll -- roll as needed, kindly DM!

Rillett (MarkB) HP 93/93 - AC 23/13/21 CMD 21
Wednesday July 20th, 2016 11:39:20 AM

A couple weeks. Rillett writes a few scrolls, and will check in with his mentor Yaas Farril, a blind cleric that runs the Temple of Gargul here in town and primarily serves the poorer part of the populace. He will also dispense healing as needed.

After a few days (and once we sell and buy things in the Catacombs,) Rillett will Teleport to Rum to see about WLA membership. As he can only cast this once per day, he will need to stay at least one night.

Anyone want to come with him? He can take 3 others (or two if one is Zeoll.) It may involve a several day stay to train. If we stay, he will use Sending to let the party know what's going on.

(For the DM - I do not want to delay the game. If WLA membership is an option in Rum, Rillett will pursue this. It's likely that if anyone comes with him, they could gather info about what's going on in Rum or anywhere else the DM plans to send us.)

After doing a bit of reading about the WLA, Terser feels like he does many of the things they uphold already. If the society could help him to do this, then why not try to join and spread their good deeds throughout the land?

I'll go with you and see what the organization has to offer. Perhaps they have even heard of some people that are in need of our brand of assistance. If nothing else, they should know of our efforts to prevent the rise of Billoopl.

Clyde (Riki)
Wednesday July 20th, 2016 6:21:15 PM

Clyde Fairwind checks his appearance one last time to ensure nothing that could identify him was being flashed. The handle and pommel of his sword was wrapped in bandage, and everything else was inside his jacket. He's got the scars on his cheek, of course, but nothing to be done about that. He steps off the deck and onto Bonetown and inhaled a deep breath. The stink of the sea mingled with the pungent yet comfortable reek that could only be home. He never thought he'd ever set foot here again, but here he was, and a grin spread across his face.

The place had changed, they were minor changes perhaps, but it seemed a completely different place all the same. That's what imposing a self-exile for over a decade does to a person, Clyde suppposed. Still, his old haunts were there, and he couldn't help but smile fondly at some warm memories. Inevitably the unpleasant memories rose to the surface, and Clyde sought the nearest tavern, just around the corner if it was still there, and sure enough, there it was, greeting him with the most watered down swill one could get. It was heavenly, but not strong enough to drown away any dark thoughts, and Clyde had to work hard to keep the smile on his face.

There was no point putting things off. The hubbub around the tavern even at this early hour was talk of the Black Lions and their victory over some godling or other. Seemed like fate that he'd step foot in his old home in the aftermath of good's victory over evil. If Clyde was to make amends for past transgressions, the first place to do was join a crew. It's been a while since he'd been part of a ship's crew.

Finding the Black Lions headquarter was simple enough. The day seemed promising. With a deep breath and a sigh, Clyde walks up to the door to give it a knock.

Tishe' is more th than happy to accompany Rillett and Terser to Rum. "I've never Walked there and I'd love to introduce your to the Woldian League of Adventurers!" The short woman ensures her cloak has both her WLA Tower and Bonetown Coin prominently displayed before staying a few days in Rum with two of her new packmates.

On the day after returning, there is a knock on the doors. Tishe' is too new to feel comfortable in answering the Black Lion's door, so waits for someone else to open the door and invite the visitor in.

When Clyde sees the inside, there is Tishe' sitting in the foyer. A short, plain human woman in light airy clothing; pantaloons, kaftan, and cloak in sage and khaki. A closer look at her face doesn’t show anything special either, mouse brown hair in a ponytail, brown eyes, and tanned face. "Many Shadows", she says in pleasant greetings.

Terser Tishe and Rillet all go to Rum via Teleport They find a city that is nearly the polar opposite of Bonetown. Law enforcement is everywhere. The buildings are neatly laid out in rows with straight running streets and corners that funnel to the grander buildings further inland. You had heard rumors that magic was used in great abundance to create the city and it is easy to believe. The WLA is located Terser and Rillet gain acceptance into the organization. The building is good sized and has a modest internal courtyard with a great oak, small pond of coy fish and a general peaceful feel. The WLA makes it a point to say they are not political, not a group trying to lead or push an agenda. They are motivated by the desire to learn and to teach. To that affect, they reduced their physical footprint in Rum and have partnered with the Domi temple where martial skills are taught and with the Star Tower and the bardic guild to pass information.
Terser is likely pleased that many in Rum have heard of the Black Lions recent adventures and what they have done for Bonetown. That said, a Rum, still sees Bonetown as a den of thieves as a general rule
A week later the group returns home.

Zeoll starts and finishes several projects of a magical nature. He also is out and about the city and pays another couple visits to the witches. Do they know the taur is coming, because he sees evidence that they have been around, but they never seem to be there when he is. Zeoll visits taverns and tells stories of the fey king and his queen and one young woman approaches after one such tale with a question. It about the king of the fey, his time of redemption and what stories the old taur may know of the time before the cradle was pulled from the Wold. A remarkable question and the girls bright blue eyes, like a mid summers sky causes his heart to leap for the briefest of moments and suddenly Zeolls recall an ancient short tale of the king and his court. How the fey royal court used to come and go from the Cradle to the Wold and back again bringing gifts and mirth to the lands of the noble races. The root of many modern fairy tales. With a smile and her thanks, she takes her leave. That night, Zeoll dreams of high white clouds, flight and air of crispest feel and purity. He awakens more refreshed in the morning more rested than in many months. And this morning there is a knock at the door....

Brother Lansel opens the door and invites Clyde in, "Please make yourself comfortable. They are in the foyer just finishing a morning coffee. Would you like anything." Brother Lansel excorts Clyde into the Foyer, "We have company." he announces to the Black Lions, All of whom happen to be there at the time

Rillett will greet this visitor. He is dressed in spotless white robes that end about mid-calf over white pants and boots. He steps forward, "Greetings. What brings you to our door this morning? Have you eaten?" He will gesture toward the disappearing biscuits and bacon on the table."

As he looks at the man, there is something about him (Perception 26). "Do...do I know you? You look familiar."

Rillett steps away and lets others speak as he studies the man. After about a minute of this, his eyes turn a milky white. (He uses his Probe Psyche ability, and succeeds with a Sense Motive of 37.) While he does not want to offend the man, we have just beaten a godling and his demonic minions. Rillett is concerned that we may have earned some powerful enemies.

He did this with Reggie, who was also unknown to us. He has not done this with Tishe, as she seems to be Zeoll's friend.

-----------------------------
Probe Psyche: The soulseeker gains the ability to look at any living creature and get a sense of its past lives. This ability turns the seeker's eyes completely milky white. After one minute of observation and/or conversation, a seeker can use this ability, with a Sense Motive check at DC 30, to know the creature's alignment and fully understand the creature's personality. This also gives the seeker insight into that particular creature, gaining a +2 Insight bonus to attacks, armor class, and spell DC against the creature.

Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC25 HP59)

Zeoll rises to greet the newcomer.

"Welcome to Porrtside House, wherre we Lionfisherrs meet when we arre on land. My name is Zeoll." His accent is thick but understandable.

Zeoll is an old liontaur, that is, like a centaur with lion parts instead of horse parts. His human half is clothed in a colorful tunic in red, yellow, and orange. His cloak is similarly colored like an autumn hillside. He is wearing spectacles and has beads and feathers in his grey mane.

"What brrings you to us, frriend? Tell us yourr name, and how we can help you."

Clyde (Riki)
Thursday July 21st, 2016 5:49:40 PM

"Greetings! Ah, yes, I've eaten, thank you." Clyde chuckles and grins nervously. What a friendly talkative bunch they are, so strange. "Ah, that is... My name is Clyde Fairwind, and I've, I've come seeking the Lionfishers, and it seems I've found you, and, ah it seems unlikely that you'd know me, I've been gone for over a decade. So, as I was saying..."

Clyde's words trail off, and he looks past the man at the door. This was getting more and more awkward. He's completely rusty at talking to other people, but this seemed a bit extreme. "Say, your friend's eyes have turned white, is-is he okay? Or is this a new manner of greeting people? Hahaha..." Clyde scratches the back of his head in discomfort.

Clyde is dressed in rather nondescript clothes. He wears a light jacket that looks to be too warm for summer, and not warm enough for winter. He has ruffled short dark brown hair, azure eyes to match the seas, and three scars that look like claw marks on his right cheek. A large scabbard is strapped to the back of his waist, the handle and pommel completely covered in bandage.

Clyde's motive is one seeking acceptance. There's currently no malice in his heart. If you get a sense of his past life, you can see that his singular purpose in life is driven by the taint of past sins drenched in blood.

"Ah, his eyes are still white." Clyde looks past the milky-eyed man again, but unsure who to address in the room. "This, this is awkward, but I was rather hoping I could take a few minutes of your time to see if you're willing to take on new members? I've heard of your recent victory, and I'm back in my old haunt seeking a crew to join. Hahaha..."

[OOC: Clyde is extremely awkward with strangers at times, and has a tendency to stutter and grin/laugh/chuckle when he's nervous.]

Rillett will respond even as he concentrates on this newcomer, "All of us here come from a past, some with memories we'd rather forget, memories that can hold us back if we let them." He glances toward Zeoll and then Reggie. "My family name carries a dark history locally, so I of all people know that I row a leaky boat."

He smiles. "You are welcome here Clyde Fairwind. Relax and know that you may have found the only place in all of Bonetown where you will not be judged by your past."

"If you seek adventure though, you may be disappointed. The threat facing Bonetown seems to have been quelled. Bonetown's biggest problem continues to be itself, which is actually a bit of a relief."

DM DPurifoy - A Second Homecoming
Thursday July 21st, 2016 11:19:12 PM

Greeted first by Tishe', she is brief but kind as she begins fixing Clyde a plate. He waves off the offer of food, as Zeoll Stands to introduce himself and ask how they can help.

The Black Lions give their unexpected guest a warm welcome. Too warm, perhaps? Clyde, a bit uncomfortable with strangers, laughs off his attempts to hide his past, and stutters a bit when Rillett calls upon his connection to Gargul and gains a glimpse of the man's motivations. No surprise there, when the priestly man's eyes turn stark white!

Despite his rough past, Clyde's motivations are as he says; albeit through a few "ums" and "ahs" - he seeks acceptance, and a chance to do more good in the Wold than his previous wrongdoings.

You've come to the right place! Rillett comforts the nervous bard.

'Come in and join us' agrees Terser, 'so long as you come in friendship.'

Do the assurances of Bonetown's heroes help put their hopeful new member at ease, informed that these kindly adventurers are open and unconcerned with his possibly untoward beginnings?

[OOC: One or two more days to meet, greet, eat & whatnot; get comfortable with each other and figure out strategy - Sunday/Monday (maybe tomorrow!?) we'll begin the next module.]

Jozhur finally finishes chewing the bacon he had stuffed in his mouth and works his way to the front of the group. He is a somewhat small, young human, though he appears rather athletic. His hair is jet black and in a messy mop. He is dressed in various shades of baggy gray clothing. A bit of chain shirt can be seen peeking from his collar and he normally has a longbow slung on his back when outside the house.

He gives Rillet a slap on the shoulder, "That's creepy, you're going to scare people away doing that. Maybe get some tinted spectacles or something, so no one will know how creepy you are."

The human extends a hand to Clyde, "Jozhur, they call me Captain of the Lionfish. Welcome to our little home. You'll have to excuse us if we seem a bit...suspicious. We have our share of enemies and aren't used to people just showing up and wanting to join our crew."

He thinks of the extra potion sent by the Dragon Consortium. Apparently they knew someone would be coming, Clyde was probably that someone. "But I trust you. If you wish to venture with us, you may. Just be warned, we know not where we are headed next and tend to end up in a fight pretty much anywhere we go."

"But if you wish to join us, you MUST eat bacon. You just wouldn't fit in otherwise, I'm afraid." Jozhur grins and extends a plate full of bacon to Clyde.

He looks sidelong at Zeoll. "At least I'm not the one that summons Red Caps for help, and lures Unicorns to a watery death."

"Anyway Mr. Fairwind, we're always interested in partnering with like minded folks here in Bonetown. Mostly 'cause there aren't many of us. Tell us a little about yourself. What is it you do? Jozhur is right that we can be a little hazardous to hang with, so we need to make sure we're not putting you in harm's way. Is there a particular diety that grants you power? Are you a student of the arcane arts? You look as though you've seen some combat - can you hold your own in a fight?"

"And how'd you get that scar?"

He unconsciously adjusts his robes. "As for me, I am Rill Savenport. As an adherent of Gargul, he grants me authority to use some of his healing power. My job is to keep everyone alive."

Reggie had been keeping busy working the docks and on board the fish. this day was a nice break.

she had been sizing up this newcomer since his arrival. watching him, wondering what he is capable of.

As Clyde takes a seat, Reggie sit across from him just watching. she pours a mug of rum and slides it in front of him and fills a mug for herself.

Don't be too put off by all the questions. You don't need any fancy magic to fit in around here. Things get weird enough around here as it is.

Zeoll agrees with what everyone is saying. "Please, be at home, join us. I am in small measurre a seerr, and yourr joining us was forreseen, although not by me. The Drragon Consorrtium anticipated yourr arrrival, and left a gift forr you."

Zeoll shows Clyde the mithril box given to the group by the Dragons, and makes sure he takes the seventh potion.

This is a potions of an orange color. Each bottle is also engraved with these words: "ANYTHING can happen"

- Major Dragon Consortium Fate Item Gift [16 July 2016; by CDM Jerry] Orange Anything Potion This special Anything Potion can act as ANY 1st-3rd level spell once imbibed (but only potion-legal spells). One use only. CL5.

[OOC: Note that this special item does not count against your WBL limit. It can't in fact, because there is no price associated with it. Sometimes in the Wold we find or are given special items such as this. These are given as gifts from the Powers That Be, or from the Lotto master, or from a party in the Giggling Ghost, and you can have only five of these items at a time. Usually they come with expiration dates, usually a year after you get them, but Anything Potions do not have expiration dates. FYI]
