A Council meeting and expanded job(Co-DM JT)
Monday July 11th, 2016 11:00:58 PM

Beset by questions regarding the bombings, the group falters mementarily. The bombings seem less important at this point.

Edson does his best to keep his mouth shut. In his experience, someone is bound to say something that annoys him.

Brom does the same as Edson but for a different reason. He prefers the brainy types answer questions.

Evred finds a spot behind Barratore and against the wall and tries to blend into the background.

Someone finally takes the lead and it is Evaris who assures the Council that they are still looking into
the bombings, but 'but we have found a circumstance just as alarming. A group of vampires is operating within the city,' and goes on to briefly explain the circumstance of this discovery and the need to warn the citizens.

Emrys takes up the story and expounds upon it, describing in detail their fight in the alley, their tough opponents, their meeting with the god Gargul, and so on and so forth. Some 30 minutes later he wraps the story up with a methodology on how to fend off vampires and keep them away.

Velarin is quiet at first, being brand new to the group, but ends up chiming in in support of the testimony of how gruesome these vampires are and describes the guild house. He divulges the plan to meet with the thief guild leaders to discuss how to fight this.

Barratore points out that at least one rogue guild has been all but wiped out. It is time to expand their authority from investigating bombed buildings to Vampire Hunting.

Lanliss sees nothing more to add to the story and waits for the response.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This new development in the ills of the city cause much gasping and consternation. The Council members put their heads together and murmur a lot. 15 minutes later they address the group again. It is no secret what they have decided, as those with good hearing caught much of the discussion.

"Very well, we will expand your authority and our Contract with you will be revised. This will take a little time and won't be ready until tomorrow morning. Come back again to sign the new expanded contract."

Although this sounded very business-like, many of the council thank the group for this discovery and promise to put out warnings.

The group is ushered back out into the street at early evening. There is a long night ahead for the poor folks of Floating City and an anxious one for the group. Do they have a meeting with the Thief Guilds yet? Will the vampires attack again tonight? Is Brom still hungry?

"So... half goes to the alchemist and half goes to the thieves guild? We look like a cult with all of us walking around in a group."

A Council meeting and expanded job(Co-DM JT)
Wednesday July 13th, 2016 12:31:06 AM

The group stands outside of the large ornate Council Hall and discusses where to next. Have they had a good night's sleep? Do they have their spells replenished?

Some wish to check on the alchemical mix in the jar, others get something to eat and rest, others check on the guild meeting, while still some wish to patrol the streets for more vampire mischief.

The last suggestion was to split the group in half, with one half going to the alchemist shop to check on their jar of goo and the other half see about the guild meeting.

It is most likely past the regular business hours of the alchemist and his shop is probably closed for business by now, not that that would stop determined adventurers. The guild meeting will be held at the speakeasy but when is not yet known. The group can go back to the house and wait for the rogue to bring the message and the location of the speakeasy or go hunting for the place themselves.

Valdrin is not so sure about being bound by contracts. Perhaps one can explain how things work in Floating City if you want to get paid for your work.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The line to get in to see the Council has long dispersed and street vendors are packing up and heading for home. The Night Life is starting to pick up while sensible people are home with their families and longing for that soft bed.

With no true leader, the group elects to put up for a vote which way to go but no votes have been taken yet, only proposed as options. A Motion needs to be made, a Second needs to be voiced, and the vote taken.

If it is now after business hours, preumably he has an answer of some kind. So, the group wanting alchemy results would not be going to an alchemist's shop, but rather back to the house to talk to Roel.]

Thursday July 14th, 2016 1:22:39 AM

Brom gets impatient and starts ushering his friends towards home. That's where the rescued rogue will meet them to tell them where to go for the guild meeting.

Evaris is too anxious to find out about the stuff in the jar and goes searching for the alchemical shop.

Everyone else goes one way or the other.

The group heading for Home find Roel waiting for them. He has no news regarding the substance other than 'These things take time.'

Evaris find the shop closed and dark. Knocking on the door gets no response. It could be the alchemist is out enjoying an dose of consumable alchemical concoction before going to bed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The night passes without incident and those who wish actually get some rest. The next day proves almost as uneventful. The alchemist is still working on the substance.

"It certainly is an explosive of some kind. I've extracted and identified most of the elements but there's still one or two that are confounding me. I deduce that Time is important, but one can't rush these things."

For the most part, the elements in the substance are of the common sort used in alchemical explosives. Not that Floating City has much need of such things but used in small amounts and done properly one can achieve certain things without much harm, useful for those devoid of any magical skills. One common use is for rodent control.

As it gets dusk however, the rogue shows up. He's shows obvious signs of nervousness. is this the lingering effects from his ordeal from the day before or something new?

"The Guilds agree to meet with you. It wasn't easy but these are unusual times. Meet at the speakeasy at 22:00 sharp. Here's where it is for the moment." Hands over a small scroll tube and speaks a word whereupon the lid pops open. "You only have a few moments to read the directions before the scroll disintegrates. Don't write the address down, memorize it. We can't afford to let the enemy know of it." he warns and then leaves.

Pulling the small parchment out the group can see the material already starting to smoke.

Memorize Location: Knowledge (Geography) DC10.

In mere moments the small parchment literally goes up in smoke.

With the new address to the speakeasy in mind, the group has a little time for some supper before heading off towards the address indelibly engraved on someone's mind.

OOC: Note any special preparations for the meeting and any revised spell list.

Barratore snorts at Brom being referred to as a bovine knowing that to be aimed as an insult even though he didn't know what uncouth meant. It had been a long day and he decides to let it pass and not create any sort of challenge. After all, it was not directed at him or another actual minotaur and as insults go, it was minor indeed.

Barratore hits a tavern on the way to the house, not being able to remember if there was any ale left, he purchases a keg. Once home, he has a snack and a couple drinks by the fire before retiring to his room. "You can crash out in the common room for now" he says to Velarin. He does not address the mage by name, as he has forgotten it. I don't think the guest room exits yet."

The fighter retires and with vampires running about, he changes into his Chain Shirt for sleeping instead of going commando.

Barratore spends the day hanging about the house, playing some cards, and wondering whom he might use his magical stamp upon and of course drinking.

At dusk, Barratore looks over the shoulder of Brom as the scroll is unrolled. Maps are not really his thing, but he does want to at least have a chance of finding this place. After all, he liked the Speak easy and rogue meeting or no meeting, he wanted to enjoy being there regularly. Geography 16

The Speakeasy (Co-DM JT)
Tuesday July 19th, 2016 12:55:13 AM

Evred practices his Shadowdancer's Shadow Jump ability and passes from the darkened hallway outside Brom's room and into the barbarian's room, as if by a Dimension Door spell and ends up inside in a dim corner of the room. The barbarian sleeps away unawares of the intruder.

Evred, very cautiously proceeds to use some magic to etch the words BAD GUY on Brom's sword blade. Once done, he Shadow Jumps back out of the room, the sleeping barbarian unawares of the prank.

By daybreak the whole house is awakened by a loud crash and ferocious bellowing (obscenities bleeped out due to the possible underage audience). It is revealed that someone has pulled a rather harmless prank on Brom. Harmless in the sense it meant no harm, but far from harmless to the man's dignity and trust in his fellow mates. He lets it be known his gear are not toys for others to mess with and 'shuts' himself, figuratively speaking, in his room for the day. Instead of going out with his friends, he busies himself with cleaning up wood shards and feeding them to his fireplace, then purchases some sturdy wood planks and starts rebuilding his door.

The end result is a very crude door that ill fits on its hinges and does not close properly. Without the proper tools and carpentry skills, it's not 'too' bad a job but the barbarian is still too sore at his friends to go out with them.

DM OOC: a Carpentry skill check would be needed for the door to be manufactured and fitted properly. Brom can otherwise hire a carpenter to do it. Just roll-play it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Outside the address of the Speakeasy, the beggar awaits the proper reply.

Barratore catches on to what the fake beggar wants and drops the special coin he got the last time they where in the secret place. He then puts his hooves a bit further apart and folds his arms, a standard 'tough minotaur' pose.

Edson nods and smiles as the special coin plinks into the tin cup and asks 'Sound about right?'

Velarin and Lanliss cross their fingers hopping that Barratore did the right thing.

Evaris' compassionate nature does not dismiss the man's wounds as some of his friends seem to Unlike Esdson, who saw through the sham, Evaris is not so sure of that. The wounds look very real. He hesitates to cast a curative spell, though, and waits for the outcome of Barratore's actions.

Emrys takes the beggar to task! He pretends at first to genuinely care about the man's affliction but his tone seems a bit mockingly, suggesting the man really bummed someone out pretty bad to get cursed so and professes to know a lot about curses. He produces a ominous looking vial and professes that it will cure the man's curse but only if the man is telling the truth, the consequences if he is lying will make his condition even worse.

Evred sticks to the periphery, watching the events unfold.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The beggar squints at the potion bottle and grins a toothy grin. "My ma always told me not to accept candy from strangers. Besides, I could never repay you for such generosity. In any case, as terrible as these wounds are, they help me make an easy living. Without them, I'd have to actually work! Thanks, but no thanks," he says, rejecting the offer of being 'cured'.

His eyes visibly change a bit once the special coin settles in his tin cup.
"AYE! Now that'd be the kind of generosity a beggar can accept."
He looks carefully around before going on.
"Go on in and a at the end of a short hall there'd be a door. Knock and when asked for the password, reply 'Gold fish nipping at my toes'."
He says nothing else as he empties his tin cup into his other hand and then that into a pocket.

The group follows the beggar's instructions and indeed a hollow voice asks for the password when they knock on the only door in the short hallway. Numerous latches and locks clink when the password is given and the door silently opens.

No one is on the other side but another short hallway leads to another door. When the last of the group passes into this new hallway, the Password Door closes and all the locks and chains reset themselves. The second door needs no password and indeed it opens before they get to it.

A well dressed, well armed man greets them. "Welcome to Sorsha's Parlor. Make yourself at home, but keep you weapons and spells to yourself."

They enter a large room, well lit, with tables spread out and a open center area where some patrons are dancing. A bar on one side of the room is busy filling tankards and glasses with precious liquid and a trio of bards enliven the place with music.

The group barely has time to take in the scene when the young rogue they rescued greets them and says "Follow me."

They are lead through the room, weaving in and out of the tables, patrons, and waiting staff, to a door in the back. Stairs lead up and from the landing a hallway runs some 50' with various doors on either side. The rogue leads them to the second one down on the left and knocks, a coded knock, and then enters. The room inside is spacious and the centerpiece is a large ornate table with high backed chairs all around. Most chairs are occupied but enough are empty. A man at the head of the table stands and greets the group.

"Welcome, gentlemen, have a seat (he points to the emtpy chairs) and introduce yourselves"

Brom looks at his handiwork and realizes that this won't do. Gathering up his gear, he takes to the streets of Floating City and heads for the most logical place to find someone who works with wood, the docks. It does not take long to find a carpenter who's not too busy on a boat and can take the day off to build a door. The man charges 5 silver for the job but the materials will cost 1 gold. He reuses the hinges but needs new nails and wood comes from trees felled on shore and brought to the city by turtle tug.

The job is finished by late afternoon. The sanding and planing taking up almost as much time as putting it together, but the door is smooth and fits snug with but a hair of a space at the floor. 'If you want it airtight, take a strip of wool and nail it to the bottom edge of the door," he suggests. "If you want it stained, that'll be another 5 silver for the stain and 1 silver for the work."

Each one introduces themselves, some with a bit of a flair, others as simply as possible. Barratore adds that they, They being the guilds, are in danger and is corroborated by Emrys.

"Thanks you, gentlemen. Most of you we know a little of but you, Velarin, are new to us indeed"

He then motions to two men. They wear typical roguish gear but also have holy symbols on their leather armor.

"Pardon us as we prepare for our meeting. This place is heavily guarded against magic and now also against vampiric intrusions. But we want one more thing. Oddly enough, it may seem ironic, but we want to be truthful in our discussions today and to insure that, we'll be conducting this meeting under zones of truth."

The two cleric/rogues proceed to cast Zone of Truth's that cover the entire room.

"Now I introduce myself. I'm Guild Master Herzog. These others here are Guild Masters and their Seconds. Their names are unimportant to the issue at hand. That would be, according to Murphy here, is
a vampiric infestation. Our knowledge of vampires is limited, but how to combat them can be found in our
extensive libraries. For the most part, vampires seem to prefer working alone or in small groups, and their
primary goals are to maintain a lavish lifestyle while enjoying that unlife for a long, long, time.

However it is our understanding that this vampiric threat you mention is far more than that. Please explain
what this means and how you've come to that conclusion."

Emrys fights back another snicker. 'How quaint,' he thinks while doing his best to remain affable. His thoughts continue to ruminate, 'trying to enchant the enchanter ... that is so cute. This was to be expected from thieves ... always on the take, lying, cheating ... stealing ... this sort of practice of magical truth telling is probably very necessary among their kind. It's like he's always said ... 'There is no honor among thieves.' He thinks these musings to be rather insightful and wise for future generations ... he should probably write that down.

"Thank you for inviting us, Master Herzog. We appreciate you seeing us in these trying times. Lanliss is correct that these vampire aren't exhibiting their normal traits of enjoying a long unlife of a recreational carnage and feeding their lust for Woldy delights. These vampire are working hard on some dark design that my friends and I have yet to determine. "We have reason to believe the vampires are....let's call it recruiting new members," he adds. "We're not sure why they would want to increase their numbers, but none of the likely answers bode well for the city."

Barratore does not like the idea of compulsory truth and successfully fights to escape the effects of the zone. Neither is he pleased the introductions are one-sided and states that.
'You have mine and I would have theirs.'
His stands relatively casual with his arms folded.

Lanliss ignores the minotaur and goes right into the subject, the vampire threat, adding their suspicions of a more sinister goal, that of not only taking over the guilds but the city as a whole.

Edson smirks at Barratorre's brazen demand and looks for an escape route. There's not much to look for. There are no windows and just the one door.

Emrys easily fends off the effects of the spell as well. He knows this as those who ARE affected by it feel it and know they have to tell the Truth or beat around the bush without lying.

He fights back a snicker at their attempt to keep the group on the level. He figures that these methods of keeping their meetings 'honest' is not just very common but necessary.

Snicker aside, he is very eloquent when he addresses Guild Master Herzog. He repeats Lanliss' suspicions of a greater design yet still a mystery. He makes no bones about why they are here, out of courtesy and for any information they might have.
'Being rid of this infestation benefits everyone's business.'

Evaris allows the spell to affect him, having nothing to hide or any intention to lie. He adds that they believe the vampires are recruiting members and is puzzled as to why they would want to increase their numbers. Either way, it ain't good for the city.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The whole time it is only the Guild Master Herzog that speaks, the others just watch.
He answers Barratore directly without flinching or signs of any emotion.
"Your introductions was just a formality. We all know you, except for Velarin. We know you work for the city and we know you had a run-in with vampires a few nights ago and Murphy has told us everything he remembers from his Guild House. We know where you live and much of your habits. So not much you can say we don't know already. As for the other Guild Masters, their anonymity is as important to them as your reknown is to you. It is our job to know all who live here and make an impact."

He then addresses the group as a whole.
"The city is working on an public education plan to help the citizenry. Our guilds are beefing up our defenses against vampires. We've been here several hours and all the Guilds have agreed to stop any inter-Guild rivalry and band together for the greater good. So why are you here? For that I'll call our Host in to explain."

He takes a small silver bell from the table and rings it but no sound comes from it. A few moments later Sorsha, the proprietor of this elite drinking, gambling, smoking, wheel-dealing place enters.

She is a grand woman of indeterminate age, dressed in a rich style reminiscent of past decadent days.

"Greetings, Darlings. Such pleasure, I'm sure. Glad you could make it. Sigh... Tsk, tsk, young minotaur, such posture. Hmmm... big muscles... where was I... oh, we've meet before perhaps? Maybe not."

she walks, sashays rather, over to Herzog and gently passes her hand along his cheek in a gentle caress.

"Please forgive me if I am a little lengthy in what I have to say, as I am used to watching before acting, and I have seen enough. I am Velarin xilontheel from Plateau City. I am a wizard by trade, an adventurer for fun, and a scholar for something to do in my down time. I am sure you will all find out quite a bit about me before long through your various channels. I have been here for a total of three days now, and my current situation is by accident. I have nothing to hide, and will share the details, and with them, some of my abilities."

"I attempted to teleport myself to the giggling ghost on a bit of a vacation because I had heard that the normal transportation method was unreliable. I landed in the middle of your newly turned nightmare of a safe house, And found the complete destruction of all inside but one. Blood ran throughout the floors, death was everywhere, and the very quick and horrible deaths of those inside created a horrible effect similar to an extreme haunting with numerous deadly and horrible magical effects. We (nodding towards the group) found each other, rescued your rogue, and escaped. Based on my particular penchant for adventuring, I decided I would join this group, and went before the council seeking their approval to assist in handling the problem, and to meet with you."

"If you don't mind, and I will beg your forgiveness for the request, and the time, I would like to address my new companions now, and then return to our conversation."

Velarin turns, looks at the assembled group of his new companions minus one. He waits a second and then begins, raising his voice short of a yell in their direction. (OOC, don't remember how to bold it)

"Quit acting like a bunch of petulant, insufferable, arrogant, whiny children. Lives are at stake, every man, woman, and child in this city, as well as yours and mine. Screwing around, and not attending to what's most important by worrying more about our personal egos and desires, means people die. When they do, you go look their family in the eye and tell them why. Each and every one of them."

Velarin points at Barratore first. "Puffing out your chest, digging in your heels, and acting like the stubborn minotaur that you are will do nothing to benefit this situation, or enlist the aid of people we need to solve this problem. Save it for combat and the bad guys. If you have nothing relevant to add to a meeting, stand silent instead of making people mad."

Velarin then turns his gaze to Emrys. "And you need to stop acting like a better than everyone else, in every way, shape, and form, prima donna. Especially when it's likely that someone in this room can sneak into your bedroom and kill you without a second thought. The wold does not revolve around you. Get over it."

Velarin then turns to where he thinks Evred is. "You Evred, you may hide by trade, and kill unseen, but when your friends stand tall before those they are asking for help, you need to stand with them, visible, and ready to be seen with your friends. In addition to that, don't ever again take a minor perceived slight committed by one of your friends, and respond in the way that you did, making him so upset that he would not attend this important meeting. You escalated a minor thing into a major one."

"If you wish me to depart, I will, but i will have said my peace, because my life is now in your hands, as well as your lives in mine, and possibly the lives of every person in this city is in the hands of us all."

Velarin stops, composes himself for all of one second before turning to the assembled guilds, Herzog, and Sorsha, "I apologize for the outburst, but i had to say what i needed to say before continuing on with this matter. If I am still a part of this tomorrow, I promise to do my best to make sure the vampires are taken care of as expeditiously as possible, and that this group acts as a cohesive unified force to benefit the city and all it's people. If I am unable to do that, I will be back in Plateau City."

DM JT OOC: I'm a bit puzzled on how Brom knows who put the mark on his BAS. Instead of just assuming he knows because the post was open to be read by all, it would be best for you to Role-play how Brom figures it out.
The simplest way is for a DC to be set by me and Brom makes an Int Check with what bonuses you think you should have. If your argument for the bonuses are good, they get added. The roll is made and I'll inform you of the results.

The hard way is to Role-play Brom's thought process that leads him to know for certain who done it. I can have one of the PTB be the judge and make the decision.

My thoughts are that it could be an ongoing challenge for Brom to find out who done it once he's cooled down and accepted the prank. It would be his secret goal t find out who did it and return the favor with a clever prank of his own.

It is entirely up to you, of course.

DM JT IC;

Brom decides to have his BAS set back to its normal plain self. Even though to some BAD GUY might be a compliment, it was the sneaky, hidden way it was done that has him riled up. And that's not even mentioning the fact that someone can sneak into his room while he is asleep and be so good at it as not to wake him up.

The guard directs him to the Mage's Quarter, the area of Floating City where the mages, sorcerers, alchemist and such. Brom knows the area since they've been through there on an errand that sent them to a small shop full of breakables.

So the place is easy to find but of the many shops and wizards offering their services, who do you choose? No time to shop around much, but going in and out of some shops and showing his sword and the mark he can figure out who's got the best customer service.

After an hour of this, he makes a decision and goes back to the place he decides upon.

The middle-aged woman he met before and discussed his problem is still there and she explains the situation again.
"These words on your sword were placed there by an Arcane Mark spell. It can be easily removed by an Erase spell. Our fee is the same as anyone else's as the prices are fixed by the Guild. No attempt is a guarantee of success. I can have an Apprentice try to remove it, which is cheaper per attempt but higher failure rate. I can have the Master attempt, which would be more expensive but with a far better success rate. Or I can have anyone in between novice to Master have a go at it."

DM JT OOC: basically, you can take your chances with Low, Medium, or High level. On the other hand, if Brom can successfully find out who did it and have them remove it, it would be free.

Emrys was in the process of rising from his chair, which is proper etiquette when a lady enters the room. However this social grace is interrupted by the rantings of the new guy. Emrys is visibly angered by the outburst and appalled that such grievances be brought to light at this time, in this place, in front of these people.

Doing his best to keep a stiff upper lip, Emrys rises again without looking at the elf. Addressing the guild he says, "I would like to humbly apologize for the display you all were forced to witness. It is unfortunate and regrettable that we invited Velarin to join us. This is no place to air such grievances and highly disrespectful, not only to everyone named, including myself, but to everyone in the room. While we are not without our faults, there is no place for this kind of bravado. With your permission Master Herzog, I would ask that you allow Velarin to leave. He will be needing to find a place to stay for the night."

With that being said, Emrys returns to his seat, stoic and resolved.

Friday July 22nd, 2016 9:29:02 AM

Barratore looks at teh elven wizard and then back at his stance. Puffed out chest? Is that how I look? The minotaur tries to look more at ease by shifting his weight and leaning into the wall and letting his arms simply hang to the sides, though his left hand soon finds itself moving to hook a thumb into his belt. Barratore grins a bit as wizard lays down what he feels, maybe the others were right about the time and place not being the best, but also he knew in his heart that Edson would not be the last person they would speak to Gargul about if the this group of individuals did not start acting like a group and a group needed a leader to call people out now and then.

Barratore starts to lean up off the wall, but decides to try it Val's way and remains in a more relaxed stance. "Relax Emrys and he's already got a place to stay"

Barratore finds himself continuing to talk , even though it is well outside his general tendencies, "So we are here about the vampires. Vampires that have infiltrated at least one of your guilds and slaughtered or converted your members. Vampires that the lords now know about and have given us power to destroy. Your safe house was turned into a slaughterhouse and so we came to you to let you know and see if you would want to be helpful in preventing your deaths and those of a great deal many more."

Barratore attempts to rattle his below average memory on the last time he was here. He Brom and Edson and possibly Evred found the speak easy by coincidence. Or so he thought at the time. They hung out inside with a few good drinks in the main grand chamber, smoked a couple cigars and generally took in the scene of the multi tiered establishment. They made their way to the second of perhaps 4 floors to sit in a balcony area overlooking the din of the main level. A scuffle at the door promised some fun, but a great magical commanding voice from higher up, broke up whatever it was. Something about neutral ground and the half orcs at the door left. Edson or Evred followed them while Barratore and Brom stayed for a few more drinks. Maybe the great magical voice was from this woman? And that is where she met me before

Sometimes it takes a while for that part of Barratore's brain to catch up and it almost never beats his mouth or sword

With a calm and cool tone, he replies to Lanliss, “I am inordinately aware why we are here. We will talk about this later. For now, dear Lanliss, please take your seat.”

Emrys is completely flabbergasted by what has transpired so far this evening, but he remains calm and diverts all his power and effort to maintaining a stiff upper lip. He wonders if the others truly understand the untold damage to the groups reputation and authority that Velarin has caused with his defamatory rant.

DM JT: I'm going to try to get the post out tonight. Pray for no interruptions. :}

Sorsha's Parlor (Co-DM JT)
Sunday July 24th, 2016 2:38:31 AM

Sorcha's entrance befuddles some of the group.
DM JT: I was picturing a mix of Kitty from Gunsmoke in a 1920's gangster setting. :)

Lanliss looks in disbelief at the woman as she enters and wonders how Barratore will react. Neutrality is the best policy, in this case, and he tries to keep his senses sharp as he wonders who this woman is.

Perception 27: You are in Sorsha's Parlor, this is Sorsha. DM Thought you guys had met her before.

Barratore glances at Emrys then back at the speaker. He elects to keep mum else it come across offensive and inappropriate, like 'How'd the Guild's preparations against vampires fare the other night?' Perhaps they are better at finding out who is who and who is where. On the other hand, the minotaur muses that these guild masters have already come under the vampires' influence and best get rid of them now. Sorsha's entrance distracts him from any action on that thought. He offers and appropriate response, for a skeptical minotaur, to her comment but straightens up some.

Edson elbows Barratore and mumbles a comment meant to be a funny.

Velarin
DM JT: to Bold or Italic or Underline, etc. use '['b']' text '[''/b']' but remove the ' ' marks used here.
B for bold, I for Italic, U for Underline. Experiment on the LnB and others can jump in if you got more questions.

The newcomer opens up with an introduction of himself and the circumstances of his being in Floating City, then goes into a sermon to several members of the group about their attitudes and party cohesion and success in their venture.

DM JT: Please remember that no one knows who did the prank on Brom's sword. If you can role-play the detective work and convice me that your PC can figure it out, OK, go for it. :)

Velarin is very respectful to their host and the guild members and hopes he'll still be with the group the next day.

Evaris is caught in his move to stand in bow by Velarin's Speach. When the newcomer sits back down, he clears his throat then thanks Velarin for his blunt insights and agrees on the importance of working together. With a much practiced bow he greets Sorsha, 'Madam Sorsha, I am honored to be in your establishment.

Emrys also is interrupted from a proper High Society greeting by Velarin's. He is apaled that such grievances are expressed in front of complete strangers and not in the privacy of their home. After Evaris says his piece, he stands and to deliver his. He begins with the proper etiquette towards their host and in short, apologizes for Velarin's airing of dirt laundry in front of them and expresses his regret they ever invited him along. He admits that they each have their faults but that's not what they came to discuss. He finishes by asking Guild Master Herzog to allow Velarin to leave and openly states the newcomer will need to spend some coin for a room tonight.

Evred simply says, from the 'void', hidden as he thinks he is, 'What they said, ma'am.'
Oddly enough, no one turns in surprise in the direction of the voice.

DM JT: FYI, I did not roll Perception Rolls for the guild masters as I deemed it unimportant to the story. That none point at Evred and say 'I see you, haha!' does not mean they don't know where you are. Maybe they do, maybe only some do. :)

Barratore looks at Velarin and back at himself. 'Puffed out chest? is that how I look? he ponders. He shifts his weight and leans into the wall, hooking his thumb into his belt. If looking puffed up is not good, looking Cool should do the trick.

The minotaur uses some restraint in his reply as he agrees this is not the place for such venting, even if it was more or less correct. In a much longer speech than he is used to, he brings the subject of vampires back to the front. He reminds the guild masters of the demise of one the Guilds. He finishes with the statement of their contract with the city to deal with the vampires, wich also means helping prevent the deaths of the guilds as well.

When Barratore finishes, he suddenly remembers the events not to long ago when they were here once before. So Sorsha was watching them?

Lanliss is moved one way by Velarin's words, then back another by Barratore's. what seems like an act of desperation, he confronts Emrys and with a seriousness in his face and voice speaks forcefully 'Vampires! Vampires! We are here to get rid of the vampires. Lets all forget group affairs'

Emrys is astonished as Barratore votes to keep Velarin in the group. But addresses Lanliss. He is definitely aware of why they are here and they'll talk about their issues later. 'Please take your seat.' he says, keeping a stiff upper lip, fully aware of the damage done to their reputation.

Velarin already seated, realizes he has once again been unwise in speaking before thinking it through. Social Graces was not part of his wizardry training. He acknowledges he'll need to make amends later, somehow.

Edson for his part, tells the group he has nothing to add. The Puzzle has been placed upon the table and if the guilds have some of the pieces in place already, best share it with them. They are Heroes, they can handle it.

Evred thinks twice about trying to remain invisible in what little shadows are in the room and disengages his ability, coming visible to all, or to those not aware of his presence, and standing in front of Velaris forcefully commands the mage to leave immediately and insults him, implying he's just a child.

Evaris ponders a Calm Emotions spell prepared each day and tries to get the same results the hard way, diplomatically.
'Let's put aside our individual differences for now. At least as regards the vampires, we're all on the same team.'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During all this, the Guild Masters and Sorsha just watch. The Guild Masters don't seem bothered by any of it, perhaps it is uncannily like some of their own meetings. Sorsha sighs a lot and rolls here eyes on occasion like she's seen all this umpteen times before as well.

Guild Master Herzog raises his hand to put a temporary halt to the group's discussions.
"We don't care a flip about your, er, personal problems. You can work those out anytime after you leave here. For us, each one of us are Master's of our craft and our preparations will be adequate. What happened at that guild house was before we had any knowledge of vampires. Naturally, we care about all here in Floating City and as such we have agreed to stop our own designs upon each other to fight this common enemy.

What we are good at is gathering information and we, or Madam Sorsha that is, has been of some considerable help in a matter that is unrelated but important to you as well. Tell 'em Ma'am."

Madam Sorsha pats Herzog's shoulder and starts walking around the table to make a complete circle.
"Very well dearie," she smiles, then winks at Barratore.
"You know of the LoD? You've met one member already. Well, I happened to have a many very good friends in the LoD and one of them was killed recently. Yes," she nearly chokes when she says this. "A message was sent after his death that it was a warning for the LoD to mind their own business. Now what business would this be? We are talking about the explosions that are terrifying the whole city. Because many members of the LoD are greatly affected by the disruption in business these explosions are causing, the LoD started their own investigations and thus the warning to stay out. At the cost of the life of a very good friend, we have found out some important clues to the perpetrators of these horrible bombings. At the fish market bombing, a dead half-orc was found. Nothing was thought of this until the ruccus some half-orcs caused outside this wonderful place. My doorman noted they all had a certain tattoo, which coincided with a tattoo found on the dead half-orc from the fish market.

The LoD put a considerable amount of resources into finding any correlation between the dead half-orc and the bombings and we hit pay dirt!"

She looks over the group with a pleasurable smirk.
"So what do you say Boys? Interested? What's the information of their location worth to you?" she smiles devilishly.

"Now, now, my dearest. This is for the Common Good. You shouldn't put a price on this. Especially with the vampires trying to suck us dry. Tell them where these half-orcs hide out, let them deal with them and increase their Heroismtude. The'll remember where they got the tip from. I'm sure." Herzog chides Sorsha, although it's clear he's having a familiar amicable banter with her.

"Oh, very well, I guess it's best that way," she signs and stops at his side again. "You Boys come and see me when this meeting is over, I'll let you in on their secret hidey-hole. Tchau-tchau." She passes her hand gently under Herzogs chin again and sashays out of the room.

Herzog smiles broadly while the other guild masters chuckle. "Gentlemen, any questions? We've go our men scouring the streets for the vampire's, you want these half-orc bombing maniacs, they're yours, if you can pull yourselves together."

Monday July 25th, 2016 11:16:31 PM

Brom tells the The middle-aged woman that he does not want any novice, nor a master, but someone who's competent.

"I can do that. Take me 30 minutes to prepare, then hopefully just a few moments and Presto!," she winks at Brom. "Feel free to look around while I get things set up."

She leaves the sword with Brom and hollers to a back room, "Stigler? Come tend the counter!" then over her shoulder she smiles and winks again, "Be right back."

The shop is full of 'stuff'. Charms, trinkets, medalions, potions, ointments, balms, and more. Oddly enough, there's even stuff to ward off vampiresm ir at least there is a shelf labeled such but it is now empty.

A little later Brom is ushered to a back room. It is spare, no chairs or any furnishings except for a table.
"My name is Ramona, by the way, please put the sword on the talbe, thanks."

Once the sword is on the table she begins her Erase spell. The casting goes off as expected but nothing happens, the words remain on the sword.
"These things happen. Magic is never certain. I'll try again," she says with confidence.

This time she concentrates even harder and when the spell is done the words on the sword flash then vanish.
"Ah, see? Two tries, that's good! Here's your sword. I'll bring the bill out in just a moment."

In a few minutes she meets Brom again she hands him a bill for 120gp. "Be back soon? We have lots of good stuff. I'm afraid there's been a rush on vampire wards but we've put in an order for more."

Brom finds a carpenter with some spare time at the docks. The job is finished by late afternoon. The sanding and planing taking up almost as much time as putting it together, but the door is smooth and fits snug with but a hair of a space at the floor. 'If you want it airtight, take a strip of wool and nail it to the bottom edge of the door," he suggests. "If you want it stained, that'll be another 5 silver for the stain
and 1 silver for the work."

He hands Brom a bill for 1gp 5sp.

Visiting the temple of Domi, Brom inquires of an attending priest the possibility of warding his room from teleportations and other unwanted entries.

The attending priest nods with Brom's every request. "We have what you request but we will first need to look at the premises to make a definite assessment. I'll have one of our brethren stop by tomorrow. What address and what time would be convenient?"

Sorsha's Parlor, a deal with the Mob (Co-DM JT)
Tuesday July 26th, 2016 12:12:34 AM

A fight not having erupted yet, things seem promising...so far...

Lanliss waits until everyone has spoken, as questions are bound to follow such an announcement,
and then asks for directions.

Velarin keeps his cool and just listens to the conversation. He has no background knowledge on the subjects so he waits and listens.

Evaris asks if the half-orcs are the source or just marionettes?

Barratore remembers Evred and Edson following some half-orcs that vanished in a dark alley, as the two did not want to head off too far alone. His thoughts come back around to the conversation about the LoD. 'the vampires will shread you.' he blurts, but quickly adds that it's a deal, they'll take on the half-orcs while the guilds hunt down the vampires.

Edson felt like there were too many chefs in the kitchen. He elaborates on Barratore's short version
of the half-orc incident and asks if it was Herzog that spoke that sent them on their way.

Lanliss massages his head with his hands. The adventuring life is much different than he thought it would be in his early days at the academy.

Emrys answers Evaris, 'If someone is pulling their strings, it shouldn't be hard to find their puppeteer. As you know, crows of a feather murder together.'
He puts in his agreement to take on the half-orcs, adding that perhaps the half-orcs are working for the vampires and a lucky break will lead them closer to the vampires. He finishes by asking Herzog to leave the vampire leader to their group if they are successful in their search.

Evaris is mostly interested in Pantheon's Justice. If it lands on the half-orcs' heads because of their involvement with vampires, so be it.

Evred immensely put out that Velarin ignored him and stayed instead of leaving, phases into shadow again and leaves the room, stating that he's going home.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Herzog chuckles at Barratore's comment, "Speaking from experience right? I heard you guys got shredded a couple nights ago. Thanks for the advice."

"Dear Edson, no, it was not I, or anyone here. That was Sorsha's doing. She prefers to try to remove undesirables in a non-violent manner first. This is her place, and we are guests here just as you."

Master Herzog looks thoughtful at Emrys, then sternly says, [b]"Believe me, if we find the Boss Vampire, there probably won't be time to stop the fight and send a runner to find you guys. You'll either be there when it happens or you won't. We aren't in this for heroics,"
with an implied 'like you guys'.

After everyone's said their piece and it sounds like a majority agreement, he stands up and announces,
"Deal then. We don't have the formalities like the City Council. We go by each other's word. Each one knows the consequences when someone backs out on their word. We'll search for the vampires, let you know what we find, and you take care of the half-orcs and hopefully end these terroristic bombings. Meeting adjourned."

The Guild Masters leave the room in silence and Sorsha enters again. She sashays over to Barratore.
"I believe this is yours?" she whispers as she passes a coin, the special coin, into his palm. She then hands a small piece of parchment to him. "This is the address where the half-orcs seem to call home. Prepare yourselves well before you go in, but, I'm sure that advice is not necessary, eh, sweetie?"

To the group she invites them all to stay and enjoy the peaceful environment, drinks, smokes, and music for as long as the like.

Evred's vanishing act (Co-DM JT)
Tuesday July 26th, 2016 12:32:41 AM

Evred, watched by all, turns his back to Velarin and finds a dim area in the room and phases into shadow.

He finds, though, that any attempt to use the ability to phase past Sorsha's Parlor to the outside lands him visible and on his but. During one such occasion (if this does happen), a waiter very politely reminds Evred that no one can teleport in or out, or dimension door in or out, or any such transportation that bypasses the main doors. And the main doors are very well warded also.

Does Evred humbly leave by the main doors as a normal person or does he patiently sit and wait for the others?

Barratore stands up from leaning on the wall as he answers Herzog, "You heard wrong." and leaves it at that. He has nothing to add to Emrys statement on the head vampire other than a nodding agreement. Herzog's response makes sense to be sure. He certainly would not expect the guild to try such a thing.

The implied quasi insult does not register at all with Barratore. To him, Herzog was simply stating a guild fact.

Barratore returns the whisper and coin from Sorsha with a grin. A part of his mind wanders off to entertain the thought of the womans durability, but fairly quickly returns to the moment at hand. He returns the coin to his belt pouch and shows the others the address before tucking it away with the coin"Thank you" he says to her in a fairly muted tone

Barratore will hang out with Lanliss for a bite, a couple tankards of ale and a cigar. He invites the others to join, "You need to enjoy being alive every now and then." If Velarin joins he and Lanliss, Barratore gives him a high level of what has been going on over the past few days, or perhaps weeks.

The group arrived not too long ago themselves. Shortly thereafter, a building was destroyed in an explosion and some of the famed Turtles of Floating City were taken. The group got the turtles back and also then got a commission to root out the cause and stop whomever it is, that blew up the first building and then subsequently a couple more. As you heard tonight, one of the Lords of Diamonds was killed in one such explosion and we encountered the vampires while trying to stop another. That then lead to the house where we met you. There you have it. Now I guess we know the vampires and explosions are not related and while we go kick some just good old mortal butt, the guild is going to play with some really high powered vampires.

So what sort of preparations does everyone not me, need to make?

Velarin joins Lanliss and Barratore unless asked not too. He takes in Barratore's summary of recent events, and joins the minotaur in a tankard of ale.

He ponders for a moment, and then asks the two of them, what are the famed turtles of floating city? and why would anyone want them? and what is a Lord of Diamonds? One should first look at motive when solving a crime. Was the building blown up to cover the theft, or was the explosion the main goal? Was something else more valuable taken that few know about? sounds like an interesting puzzle, and more questions than answers.

Where do these half orcs come intro the picture?

As far as preparations, I will need to memorize spells in the morning. I was currently planning on dealing with the haunted house, but I would much prefer half orcs, as most of my spells work much nicer on them than vampires.

Memorized Spells:

Sorsha's Parlor RnR (Co-DM JT)
Wednesday July 27th, 2016 12:31:55 AM

Meeting adjourned, some enjoy the best of the best at Sorsha's Parlor. Everything, of course, is triple the price of elsewhere, but it is a quiet and safe environment. Although there is a dance room with some waltz music and dancers swirling around.

There are plenty of ladies that, for a gold, will dance a set with you. All are well dressed and good looking. They beckon the group for some action on the dance floor.

Lanliss orders some drinks and some food. He looks at the menu and notices all items are a bit pricey, but hey, they are adventurers and life is hard. Need to put all that gold to some good living sometimes. Perhaps the gourmet chicken legs will ease his mood a little.

DM JT OOC: All prices are triple that of the Players' handbook. Cigars? Just take a wild guess. Subtract your indulgences from your PC sheet.

Barratore is quick to deny and whuppin' from the vampires, 'You heard wrong!' he retorts.
At least he understands Herzog's reply to Emry's request. He takes the coin from Sorsha and puts it safely away. It appears that if you are invited back, you get the coin, if not, no coin, no entrance. A coin directly from Sorsha must be special indeed!

The minotaur decides to hang out a bit and enjoy the high quality items the parlor has to offer. In doing so,
he gets the chance to get Velarin caught up on the events that have transpired in the recent past that has
brought them to this point.

Velarin listens carefully to Barratore's story while gulping down a tankard of ale. Some details of the story need some splaining, like what are the famed turtles of Floating City? What is the Lords of Diamonds?

With some ale down the hatch, his mind starts churning, and his detective nature kicks in, shooting out question after question about the details of the bombings.

Edson sticks with those hanging around the parlor and enjoying goodies and stories. He's ready for
half-orcs as he is.

Evaris sits with is friends and enjoys the plushness of the place while helping fill in he details of the story Barratore provides.
'Now y'all don't fill up on this fru-fru stuff, ya hear? I'll have a Heroes Feast for ya in the morning and you'll need to eat up a belly full to get the benefits.'

DM JT OOC: DM's interpretation with some poetic licence and the Narrator is not responsible for any misrepresentation.

Evred leaves Sorsha's parlor and goes for a long walk in hopes the night air will help cool himself down. Eventually, many blocks (or just one block if he went in circles) later he decides to head back to his friends, presuming they are still at Sorsha's having a dandy of a time. At the entrance though, he meets up again with the beggar asking for alms. It occurs to him that Barratore had a special coin that was given him last time they were in there and that's what got them in.
Unfortunately he does not have such a coin on him.

Well, now what? What should Evred do to gain re-entry?

DM JT OOC: DM is not trying to pick on Evred, just setting forward facts as played out.

Brom spent an indeterminate time at a bar and eventually finds his way back home. He pushes his new heavy metal-reinforced door open and slams it behind him. Good thing he doesn't have magic wards up yet, for in his state, would he remember to say the password before he sets them off? He crashes on his bed and has dreams, dreams of battles long ago and not so long ago. Kobolds in their cramped tunnels surround him and his friends, pinging sling stones all around them, whittling his friends down while hiding behind a wall of tables, impenetrable tower shield wall of tables with pesky kobolds jibbering and jabbering and dodging behind that blasted table tower shield wall... a huge axe swings back and forth, in the corridor, bloody axe... no way out... pesky kobolds, DIE KOBOLDS!

The dream moves on to other battles. There are half-spider half-dwarf, half-spider half-elf, half-spider half-anything, that comes jumping out of the ground, snatching poor Rum-ites...flying monstrocities... a clever drider... an open air zoo of giant animals... and vampires!

Finally his dreams settle on someone dear to him. Demetria! Sigh... What might of happened?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Time flys when you are having fun. Does anyone notice Evred's absence? Does Evred figure out what it will take to gain entrance without the special coin? Does he bother to try and just goes home? What are the plans for the morrow? Tackle the half-orc hideout during the day or pounce on the at night?

Perhaps they waited too long, for in the morning, news of another bombing spreads throughout the city. It seems like a potion shop on Merchant Level got hit this time. Was it that dainty one they visited just a few days ago?

Emrys Myrridanmyl, stephen f. ac10 hp51/51

Emrys makes his round Sorcha's Parlor mingling and making pleasant conversation. His anger, for now, is quietly tucked away and his normal warm expression returns as he charms all those around him. He compliments Sorcha on her decorating style and asks where he could acquire such finery. He comments that his accommodations in Floating City are quite adequate but lack the comforts he's accustomed to ... a lifetime of wealth and privilege has certainly spoiled the Younger Lord of Culverheart.

With a full glass of wine, he returns to his friends and gives each a warm smile and a pat on the shoulder. He sits down next to Velarin. He waits for Barratore to finish his detailed telling of events. He takes a few last sips and puts down his glass.

In a calm and faintly aloof manner of tone, he addresses Velarin. "I'm not interested in apologizes or excuses. In fact, I wish to hear nothing at all from you for the rest of the evening ... you've already said quite enough. It astonishes me that you thought it wise to address such grievances in this venue in front of the thieving nobility of this city. I'm not against hearing criticism, however it was not only bad form but most imprudent to do so in this manner. If I had my way, you'd be gone ... immediately ... however Barratore seems to have taken a liking to you. I trust Barratore with my life ... he has my love and my friendship. That and that alone has earned you a second chance. However, if you continue to sully our reputations and authority, you will find your belongings sent to the Giggling Ghost. I hope I've made myself clear."

With that being said, Emrys seems satisfied for now. "I am going to head back to the house and see if Brom has calmed down. I look forward to your Hero's Feast, dear Evaris," he says with a smile. He says goodnight to all. Before heading out, he thanks Sorsha for a wonderful evening and gives her a kiss on the hand if she offers. He then returns home.

At home, he notices the new door and the mess left behind from the construction. He knocks on the door lightly and says, "Brom, my dear, are you home?"

Barratore doesn't really have any answers for Velarin. Every question the wizard asks illicits a shrug and a 'don't know' response. Except for the turtles. They are the turtles that act as ferries and a sightseeing attraction. According to Marcus and Sorsha, the lord of diamonds was killed as a warning message to back off. The LoD is some of organization of some kind.

As Emrys joins the table, Barratore flags a higher quality wine for him. Emrys needs to say his piece, just Velarin did and the Minotaur doesn't interrupt. He nods at Emrys's statement of his trust and friendship and when he is concluded the Minotaur leans in to both men and the others at the table. His voice is lower than normal and far more serious than perhaps any have ever heard from him.

"it's been said and it is now done. We move on and this matter is closed

Barratore returns home for some sleep and in the morning is more than happy to partake in the Heroes Feast. News of the other bombing disturbs him, but he does not know of anything they could have done to prevent it. "Can we find out quickly if the alchemy shop we have been seen frequenting was the target?"

Barratore is ready to storm the place. Know the answer to his question will only serve to know how upset and determined he will be while doing so

What is done is done, and what is said is said, let us move forth from this point." Velarin will then follow the minotaur home, and crash on the floor.

Upon hearing word of another bombing after the heroes feast, Velarin suggests "Unless you have learned increasingly valuable information at each bombing site, then it is likely that investigating that is more wasted time. I believe hitting the half orcs hard and fast would be the best course of action and provide the most information, assuming a few can be taken alive" at which point he looks in Barratore's direction.

Home on the Float (Co-DM JT)
Thursday July 28th, 2016 1:14:13 AM

DM JT OOC: I meant to mention this in closing yesterday's post but forgot. As each one leaves the parlor, they are handed a special coin. Only one that didn't get one was Evred. That does not mean that Evred can't enter, just not alone unless someone gives him their coin.

Lanliss feels the good food working on his spirits and his mood lightens. 'I guess we should check
that out,'
he states and hypothesizes that maybe someone is trying to take over the whole city.

Emrys visits the different areas of the parlor, taking a peek into the gambling room, the dance hall, the formal dinning room, the library, small concert hall, and back to the main common room. He mingles with the clientele and easily sees he is a good bit underdressed, however his adventurer's equipment does not seem to bother those present.

When he returns to the common room he listens to Barratore finish the tale of their adventures of late. When the minotaur is finished and questions answered, Emrys spells out his thoughts to Velarin. Despite the wrong the newcomer committed against them all, he accepts the decision for Velarin to stay in the group. What is done is done.

With that behind him, he leaves the parlor and heads home to see what Brom is up to.

Barratore answers Velarin's questions mostly with a shrug and 'I don't know'. The famous giant turtles are explained to Velarin as Velarin didn't come by Turtle Ferry like most folks. After Emrys speaks, the minotaur puts the finishing touches on the subject with 'it's been said and it is now done. We move on and this matter is closed.'

The news of the latest bombing is disturbing but he feels there's nothing they could have done about it.

Velarin accepts the words from Emrys and Barratore, glad to put all this behind them.

He does not see any point in investigating the new bombing site if nothing was found at the previous sites.

Evaris is careful not to overindulge in the finery of the parlor and leaves after Emrys, although everyone pretty much leaves right after Emrys also.

Edson stays out of the spat between Emrys and Velarin, finishes his ale and graps a cigar to go.

Evred doesn't waste time in front of the door and returns home for some much needed rest.

Brom is awakened by Emrys' knocking and although he opens the door for him, it is clear it was better to have left his sleeping.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As each one leaves, a door attendant hands each one a special coin, an invitation to return, except for Barratore, who already has one, and Evred, for an unknown reason but one might have a good guess at.

Next morning Evaris casts his Heroes' Feast spell for a hearty breakfast which all thoroughly enjoy. Each one takes in the news of the new bombing in his own way. Perhaps by the end of the day this threat will be removed.

The matter that brought about a new door to Brom's room is shoved aside for now as they make plans for the assault on the half-orc hide out, filling Brom in on the events of the meeting with the Mob.

DM JT OOC: just need to know your plans on when you plan to visit the half-orcs address. Immediately after breakfast? Visit the new bombed shop first? and so forth.

Maybe soon we could have such a feast for every meal."

Turning to Brom, Emrys adds, "Sorry for waking you last night. I was merely checking in on you. I couldn't hear you snore through the door like I normally do. It's quite a sturdy door, I might add! I may have one built too. Oh and if you ever need help with sleep, remember I have a collection of sleep spells at my disposal."

Answering Lanliss, "Yes, yes we should visit the most recent explosion. The longer we wait, the less likely our chance to find clues. Besides the people need to see us there, feel assured that we are on the job. Then we go visit our half-orc friends. If they are responsible, they will be beset with fear and doubt with the swift path we'll beat to their door. They will ask themselves, 'were we sloppy, did we give ourselves away somehow? How did they know?!' This may slow down their schedule of attacks as they reevaluate their strategy ... gives us a little extra time to hunt down and take out their leadership."

Everyone is very pleased with the breakfast buffet and discuss what plan to take for the day.

It seems that regardless of how much they eat, more appears before them. This goes on for an entire hour. Velarin points out the long term benefits of such a feast and that they must keep stuffing themselves
for the whole hour or the spell won't work. Although only the hardiest would be able to immediately get up and engage in battle as stuffed as they are, they do have 12 hours before the spell wears off.

That is plenty of time to investigate the new bombing site. Maybe that will give enough time for the food to settle some before engaging the half-orcs.

Events of the night before seem settled for now but not entirely forgotten. Emrys admires Brom's new door
and suggests he get one himself, to which Brom advises the scrawny half-elf should start lifting weights before getting such a door.

Of course, since they already have reason enough to visit the half-orcs, and the address, they could do so
first then visit the bombed shop to fulfill that obligation. It will take someone to take the reins of leadership and decide which to do first.

DM JT: short post tonight, need to get some sleep. Just keep posting and enjoy the buffet, just leave a morsel for your DMs. ;)

If we run into something that looks like it will be a tough fight, I will throw it to give the melee combatants an extra edge. I will try and cast it early in the fight if possible, but the range of the effected is short, so the closer we are together, the better it will work for all.

Whoever knows where we are going, lead the way. time to take care of a problem.

Home on the Float (Co-DM JT)
Monday August 1st, 2016 10:16:36 PM

Over the Hero's Feast breakfast buffet, the group discuss what to do next. Word of another bombing opens the discussion of which to do first but the overwhelming desire is to head straight for the half-orc hideout. Sorsha had revealed (but DM forgot to mention it) that the half-orc group was known as the Tuskadors and sported tatoos of a boar's head with massive tusks.

After partaking of the magical breakfast for exactly one hour, it magically disappears just as it had magically appears. All plates, mugs, utensils, scraps, uneaten food, and even the table vanish. Anyone
who had stowed any away for later find those morsels gone as well.

With address in hand, the group sets out to find this place. Not surprising it is in the first level of the city, in a mixed neighborhood of shops, warehouses, and manufacturing space (fishing nets, carpentry, ceramics,
etc.). With a little inquiry they find the street they are looking for and traveling down the street they find the address.

As it is morning, there is plenty of hustle and bustle about and even this street sees a fair bit of traffic, mostly carts carrying a variety of goods either coming or going.

The place itself is a nondescript two story affair like most of the others. The establishment (marked in red on the map), abuts two others, but this is much the norm as space is a premium in Floating City.

Experience from before, all the roofs are flat. The buildings all have windows on the second floor but none on the first but only few are not covered. All the windows in this building are covered to prevent nosy busy-bodies. There is a set of double doors facing a small courtyard, typical of the type of doors used to bring in large quantities of freight. One of these large doors also has a typical normal sized door used when just entering or exiting the building. A chimney is putting out a wee bit of smoke.

As in most streets, a narrow alley runs behind these buildings.

DM JT: feel free to ask for any further details.

Emrys does cast Deathwatch upon himself. If there are any undead disguised as the living within, he will know it. He would prefer to send an Arcane Eye through the interior first, but he isn't certain he could pull off a 10 minute cast in a public place, among many other things. So many options, so little time, he thinks.

If Emrys ever desired to disregard others peoples' privacy, there would be precious few secrets that could be hidden from his magical gaze.

Barratore chuckles a bit at the conversation of tactics and plans. Fights always went sideways it seemed. The key to a group was to know what the others would do when it did. To that point the unknown was Velarin. But the elf was a wizard and so Barratore had a guess at what he would do. Now it just remained to see if he was right. Barratore hoists a mug to Brom and does add that haste would always be a nice opening spell in a fight

The alleged hideout (Co-DM JT)
Wednesday August 3rd, 2016 2:40:25 AM

The group find themselves at Dead Man's Run on Dirt Level, facing the purported place the half-orcs call home.

Emrys suggests he go invisibly around the building and see if he can tell if anyone is home and how many or just knock and invite themselves in. He does casts Deathwatch on himself. At least he'll know if there are any undead inside. He thinks about his Arcane Eye but does not see how he could get it inside. The place seems airtight.

Evred tries to shift into shadow but there are none as it is broad daylight. Floating City, to prevent the lower levels from 'feeling left out' of the daylight that the first level has, has magic Daylight globes all over the ceiling to simulate the real daylight conditions. These globes dim as evening wears on and finally
go out as street lamps come on, simulating night time.

He does ask his Shadow Companion to go underneath the building and scout it out, traveling the length of it, then report back.

Barratore ponders the new guy's tactics while finishing the Feast. On the street, he scans up and down for the unusual. The activity seems normal for the time of day, about mid-morning. Fairly busy.

Velarin suggests that they could be being watched as they stand out there, and as much as he'd prefer to know everything about the place before going it, the longer they delay, the more time given for the enemy to prepare. He casually suggests checking the door for traps before going in.

Lanliss helps Barratore look for possible ambush in the streets or other possible surprises.

Brom asks which tactic are they going to use, the Frontal Assault or the Sneaky Peeky?

Evaris to answer Brom's question, walks up to the single door in the middle of the double doors and knocks.

Evred nearly panics at Evari's bold move and calls Blue, his Shadow Companion, cancelling the scouting trip, then both hide behind a building corner.

Edson tries being sneaky as he circles the building. It's a roundabout trip, having to go around another building to get to the alley and check out the rear of the building. He looks for windows he can try to use to get in.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Group assess the building and it's strengths and weaknesses as best they can from the street. Edson vanishes around the buildings to check out the alley side. Evaris walks up and knocks on the door.

The building windows are all on the second floor. They are all shut and covered from the inside. Not unusual for any building, specially on this level. Climbing a wall does not look too difficult but it will be the only way to test a window to see if it can be opened. He does not notice any signs of traps from his ground position. He'll have to climb up to a window and get a closer look for that. At least he notices no traps in the alley.

Knocking on the door results in the expected knocking sound. The wooden door feels very solid, as expected for a building being used and kept up. It does not produce any immediate noticeable reaction from the inside, though. Tense moments pass.

The rest look rather sheepishly out in the street, and have to shift this way or that to allow a cart pass by. It does not seem anyone is paying the group any special attention. Keen eyes notice nothing unusual in the passerbys'.

No undead are in the Deathwatch area. Yet.

Since no one comes to answer the knocking...

Velarin utters 'Seriously? He just knocked on the door?' incredulously.
He looks at Barratore and he asks that the minotaur do some serous 'knocking' while they still have time.

Emrys gets the impression that Velarin's comments border on ordering them around but does not say anything, just looks at Velarin a bit frustrated. Instead he turns to Barratore and points out the dangers of exploding materials that may be inside and casts Protection from Energy (fire) on the

Despite ideas and suggestions, no one really makes a move. Evred even laments the party doesn't use his extraordinary skills but makes no move to offer them or just go up and 'do his thing'.

Edson makes it back around to the front after scouting the building side that faces the alley.

DM JT: BTW, I didn't draw houses opposite the buildings due to space, but imagine same type buildings across from a narrow alley from the back side of these buildings.

He describes what he saw and sees that no one has made any move (except to knock on the door) towards their goal, he spends a few moments looking the door over for traps, then tries his luck on trying the lock.

Barratore points at Brom's BAS adamantite sword and tells Velarin 'Brom's BaS, is our special door knocker.'
He waits to see if Edson is successful in getting the door open and gives instructions on what to do once it is opened.

Plan A:
He'll open the door and sweep into the area beyond, Evred to move in behind him and start spotting targets for him and Brom.

Lanliss checks his gear for his own set of lock picks in case Edson fails his attempt.

Brom, along with Barratore, lets the rogues to their roguing before letting brawn take over.

Emrys decides to help out by using his Remove Viewing ability from his priestly Knowledge Domain.
The ability is in actuality the well known Clairvoyance/Clairaudiance spell and although he does not have any knowledge of the area on the other side of the door, he's not placing the invisible magical sensor anywhere but just on the other side of the door. Placing it anywhere else inside, he gets the feeling it wouldn't work.

Evaris casts Bless on all those around him while he still has a chance to get everyone.

Evred looks for a way to approach the door of their target while remaining in shadow but finds that the simulated sunlight from the light orbs underneath the next level up do not provide enough in terms of 'shadow' to manage that. Not to be left behind once the doors are opened, he positions himself to be able to see what's going on and remains poised to rush into the building as soon as the door is opened.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By now a few people passing by stop to watch what's going on and whisper to each other.

Edson studies the lock on the door looking for any traps but sees none. He pulls out his trusty lock pick tools and goes to work on it and manages to manipulate the workings of the lock to unlock it. With a twist of his wrist he turns the knob and pushes the door open. It quietly swings open (it opens to he inside).

Meanwhile, Emrys describes the little he can see. Due to the dark interior he can only see in a ten foot area which, as best he can tell, has stacked crates and looks like a warehouse.

The door now open, Barratore barges in. He has to squeeze through the narrow 5' opening of the small door but does so without any problem. He moves inside enough to allow the others to follow him.

Unfortunately, as he crosses into the warehouse area he feels a wash of magic erupt around him.

Everyone (including Blue): Fort save vs Pain DC20, Save negates, Fail = intense pain, -4 on attack, skill, and ability checks.

All those civilians who stopped to see what was going on writhe in pain as the magic washes over them. They cry out curses and some of those curses are directed at the party. They scatter and flee as best they can.

If Plan A is still in effect:
Brom follows Barratore and then Evred and anyone else who's not moved yet. Each square is 10'. Evred's double move puts him just outside behind Brom, he can move inside next round.

We are in Combat Rounds now.

The inside looks like a warehouse with crates scattered about, some stacked upon each other. It is dark inside.

DM JT: I'll have the map for the inside next post.

Map: pretty much the same as the last one except Barratore, Brom, and Evred are inside, plus any others that follow.

(sorry, my last post was meant to be private)

Emrys is losing patience. While they wait, he adds to the suggestion box … “Why not we all climb on the roof and dance a jig. I’ll magically increase everyones’ weight by a factor of 8!” After doing a little math in his head, he continues, “That should come to about 9.8 tons dancing on the roof. That should reduce this house to rubble!”

Barratore shrugs off the spell and delays going anywhere until one of the half a dozen spell casters creates some light in the place.

As soon as some light shows up, Barratore moves directly at any opponent revealed and attacks.

(Fort Save: 24 … wow!!)

Emrys is able to shake off the effects of the spell surprisingly. ‘That was a strong one,’ he thinks.

Judging by Barratore’s irritated glance and his hesitation from entering the darkened warehouse, Emrys acts on the minotaur’s unspoken request. With a flick of his wrist, Barratore’s weapon begins to glow like a torch.

Evaris can't hold back a gasp as the wave of pain hits him, but he grits his teeth and is able to endure it [Fort save 25].

He reaches up and casts Protection from Evil on Brom (I'm assuming he can reach).

Lanliss shouts in pain as the magic erupt around him making him feel constant great pain across his body.
Lanliss manages to contain a little bit of the pain and grabs the hilt of his short sword, readying himself to whatever may come their way.

Evred shrugs off the magical pain and allows it to wash over him. Judging discretion to be the better part of valor, he makes a beeline right back to where he was taking cover with his shadow companion. Blue joins him.

Edson grabs his chest in pain as the magical attack hits him. "Ugh... "is all he can say as he drops to one knee.

After a few, long painful seconds he gets up and moves with the others.
