Big Room - Little Pants (DM Mstitt)
Tuesday September 20th, 2016 8:31:11 PM

Bobwise talks to Dorbin . He thanks the entire group for letting the two join. After some awkwardness he starts working on dishes. Dorbin tosses a small blue cube to Emily but it vanishes. He says, "I don't know this Shredds fellow, nor have I seen him before today. But Bobwise and I might be able to find out something from the inn his parents know. There might be some visitors there that might know more about him, right Bobwise?"
Bart suggests they get new masks. He asks Oscar about well made staffs and he smiles.
“Well, I have family everywhere. I’m sure I can find you something on the Gold level. You will have to give me a couple days. Us ratfolk have a network but it take a while to get word.”
Stohp tries to bring order. She makes a list.
"Micah mentioned past grievances, ratifying Bobwise, Dorbin, and Bart, the discussion of whether we need a leader, what a leader should do, and picking a leader. Z mentioned some of the same things but also Shredds. I think we should also discuss the warehouse here, what improvements we can make, and discuss how we'll pay for that and other things."
Finishing the list, she looks for a place to put it where everyone can see it. Unable to find anything she just holds it up so everyone can see. "Is there anything else we need to discuss? We can list everything and tackle them one at a time, it'll be less confusing then us jumping from topic to topic at random."
Micah agrees and Martisan tries to catch the food before it disappears. She casts a spell and waits. Zander checks off the items Stohp covers as Bobwise stands and joins the small crew washing dishes.
Oscar is small and his head reaches just over the cabinets by the sink. After several moments the dishes are done. Oscar places the damp towel on one of the tables and opens one of the cabinet doors. He then steps inside and begins to make his way through the house. The noise suddenly stops and attention returns to the big room.
(OOC: Your training room is ready when you are. You could place extra weapons inside and make a bit of an armory.. Just an idea. So, is the leadership discussion tabled? Continue the conversation? Time is on your side, it's just before noon. Do some training, relax, travel through the Float a bit. Once everyone has had a night's rest we can start the next adventure.)

Bartomus [(Rod) HP: 13/20 AC: 13 (11+2)]
Tuesday September 20th, 2016 11:50:32 PM

"Oskar, that would be great. I just need to figure out some type of weapon I can carry that will not have the same damage as the Glave. But, not going to give it up either." Bartomus winked at the ratman and then listened to the discussion and looked over the list.

"I think we need to figure out how we pay for the operations of the place too, not just it's improvement. Also, do we have any way to get some advance word if this Shredds decides to make a hit on us here?" Bartomus asked as he rubbed his shoulder and fore arm. The wounds were still fresh from the altercation earlier.

Dorbin [AC:13/13/10 HP:17/17 CMD:14]
Wednesday September 21st, 2016 9:02:17 AM

Dorbin sits back down and nods quietly at the list of items to be discussed. He looks over at Martisan when he sees she is going to start writing something. He tries to peek at her penmanship.

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 15/12/12 CMB: +5 CMD: 14
Wednesday September 21st, 2016 9:50:41 AM

"Ok, advance warning system... got it." Stohp sets the scroll down beside her and looks around. "First topic; does anyone else have a grievance with another party member? Could be anything, something they did, an annoying habit, lets get it out in the open instead of letting it fester."

K (Carl) HP: 25 AC:25/22/21 CMD:18  d20=19 ;
Wednesday September 21st, 2016 10:31:16 AM

A single bead of sweat falls down K's face, and he decides he can't keep his center any more. He exhales sharply and stands.

"If having a leader means we don't spend hours discussing stuff in committee, count me in." He wanders over to get more breakfast, finally noticing the kitchenware in the cabinets (perception: 19). Keeping his composure takes a lot out of him.

Returning to the group, he plops himself down in the most comfortable place he can find. "I've said my peace," is all he says before digging in.

Martisan (John for Damarr) HP: 18/18 | AC: 17 | T:17 | FF:13 | CMD: 15
Wednesday September 21st, 2016 1:39:17 PM

"I have no grievances to raise," says Martisan. "Next topic,"

In her notebook she has her animated quill write Cleaning laundry and marks a big check by it.

Micah (John) HP: 25/25 AC: 15/10/15 CMD:14
Wednesday September 21st, 2016 1:43:52 PM

Micah looks at each of his colleagues. Now that he and K have spoken he feels there is nothing unresolved regarding himself.

He waits silently for Stohp to move to the next item.

Bobwise (Jerry)
Wednesday September 21st, 2016 6:28:23 PM

Bobwise realizes he is not being a good group member and smiling at Oscar says, "I'll be back to help after the meeting."

He goes and sits down.

"I have no grievances with anyone. Everyone has been nice and honorable to me. Sorry I just have a hard time sitting still, unless I'm working on spells or something."

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 38/38 AC: 18 T: 10 FF: 17 CMD: 16 Party Treasury
Wednesday September 21st, 2016 7:09:43 PM

"Seems the air has been cleared. Unless, someone has objections Bobwise, Dorbin, and Bartomus I think I can safely say you are now full Silver Shields and that can be another item off the list.", Zander looks over Martisan's shoulder, an easier task, to double check the list before continuing and then stops himself, "Stohp you're leading this meeting so I'll let you continue it." He then sits down somewhere comfortable.

Big Room - Little Pants -Part 2 (DM Mstitt)
Wednesday September 21st, 2016 8:46:09 PM

Oscar disappears under the kitchen cabinets and crashes through the house. Bart bring up operational concerns and asks about advance word about Shredds intents. Dorbin nods and listens. Stohp Takes notes as they discuss and brings up the first topic. “Grievances”
K sweats a bit.

Micah and Martisan have no grievances and is eager to move on to the next topic. Bobwise offers to help Oscar but the little rat is gone. Zander states "Seems the air has been cleared.
---
Oscar continues to walk through the house. He then returns and steps from under the sink, a bit dirtier than he was before. “Oi.. the dishes are done. How is a house servant supposed to help y’all out? He then pulls out a wooden stick and begins to gnaw on it nervously. Oscar then steps through the group and disappears into the other rooms.

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 15/12/12 CMB: +5 CMD: 14
Wednesday September 21st, 2016 10:54:29 PM

Stohp marks off "Grievances" and "New Recruits" from the list. "Grats on being official members guys. Ok so next topic is back to the leadership thing, firstly the discussion on if we even need a leader. To move things along faster lets have everyone say what they have to on the subject, then give a yay or nay on if we need to pick a leader or leaders. Sound good?"

Once she's gotten everyone's acknowledgement she continues. "As for myself I feel we need a leader and say yay. As for why I it's actually because of you guys." She waves a hand, indicating K and the three newest recruits. "Half of our group is part of the Shields because they heard of what we've done and wanted to help. That won't stop, it'll just get bigger the longer we go. We're going to get more and more recruits, and we can either turn them down or turn them into a force for good. Lead them, teach them the hard lessons we've learned, and spread our influence and protection through the Fence. We've started something that will spiral out of control later if we don't establish a clear chain of command now."

She stands up and starts pacing in front of the group, gesturing passionately as she continues. "We were formed to help the people on the Fence, to fight crime and solve problems the guards couldn't or wouldn't handle. We can't do this alone. A group of 8ish adventures can't be everywhere, can't hear of every problem, and can't handle all the ones we do hear of because we'll be to busy elsewhere. We need to find allies, contacts, and informants. People who can provide us with needed resources, inform us when there's a problem that needs our attention, and be places we can't go gather information. We'll also need people to handle problems that are important, but we cannot personally attend to because of some other crisis going on elsewhere.

My vision of the Shields isn't just us running from crisis to crisis trying to hold the Fence together, it's of an organization built to do what the guards won't; keep people safe and stop crime pro-actively instead of re-actively. The Guards ignore the Fence until problems escalate to murder; we can make friends and have ears everywhere so that problems are solved before people die.

We're already making good progress on that as is; the merchants gave us this HQ, free meals, and feed us information. I'm hoping that I can recruit Jasper to be our eyes and ears on the Trash and the criminal underworld. With some luck and a bit more work the Hands can now be our allies, giving us another source of information. If we keep having people showing up like you guys did we'll also have young talent able and eager to go out and handle problems, allowing us to focus on the worst dangers or issues that come up."

She stops pacing and looks at the group again, making sure to meet every eye. "Think of how much good we could do if we set up something like that. Think of how messy it'll get if we don't have a hierarchy set in place, with the kinks worked out, before things escalate. Such an organization will never work without a clear chain of command and delegation of duties. Say we 8 are the core, the ones in charge of the various recruits and hirelings we pick up. How much confusion will there be if they get different messages from all of us? It'd spell disaster. That's why I feel we should elect a leader or leaders. Now we're just a handful of people doing good deeds; in the future we'll be more powerful, with greater responsibilities and everyone looking to us to lead.

It's best to establish who we are, what our goal is, and who is in charge now, early, before we have a dozen eager young men and women begging us to let them help, to let them improve their lot in life and the lives of their friends and family. If things go the way I think, or maybe just hope, we'll all end up leading others. It's the nature of adventurers as they gain power and prestige. By acting now and building a chain of command with just us, we'll be ready and know who's in charge and who's responsible for what when there are far more of us."

Finished with her speech she stands for a few moments more, taking in everyone's reactions, before sitting down, implicitly passing the floor to whoever wants to speak next.

Bartomus [(Rod) HP: 13/20 AC: 13 (11+2)]
Wednesday September 21st, 2016 11:11:01 PM

"To me, the leadership has to be settled amongst you veteran members. As a new guy, I really don't have the ability to weigh in on that topic at all. But knowing who we go to when there are issues is pretty important. Plus, knowing how we go about addressing the problems here in the Fence is important too." Bartomus stood as he spoke. "But, for now, I just want to know where to set up in this place, and what we need to do to make sure Oscar and others can operate."

Dorbin [AC:13/13/10 HP:17/17 CMD:14]
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 9:13:16 AM

Dorbin sits quietly and thinks about what Stohp has said. Did Dorbin want to be a leader? It sounded like Stohp was setting this up to be a military organization where he would end up with soldiers that reported to him. That wasn't really what he had signed up for. He looks over at Bobwise and wonders what they have gotten themselves into. He pets Emily and quietly says, "I just wanted to try and help people. I don't want to be an army."

K (Carl) HP: 25 AC:25/22/21 CMD:18
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 10:30:22 AM

K listens intently to Stohp's speech. The taur makes some good points, but...

"Sounds like you're setting us up to be the law down here. We're barely functioning as a group at this point; we need to get our own stuff together before we head down that path." His 2nd breakfast finished, he puts his plate down on the floor next to him.

"We've got too many strong personalities and too many folks who will always serve the needs of their god or goddess before the needs of this group to just elect a leader and call it a day. Frankly, anyone who thinks they can just give an order to a paladin of Domi is probably in for a bad time." He reaches over and punches Zander in the arm to make his point.

"Besides, I still don't think you've shown the kind of patience and level-headedness you should. Don't think we don't notice how annoyed you get when we don't do what you want out there. It's easy to sit here in safety and give a prepared speech about working together. You start acting like this when things get violent, then we'll talk." He stretches his arms out a bit, finally feeling some tension leave them.

"Basically, prove you can lead before you ask to become a leader. With Shredds still out there, you'll have plenty of opportunity to show us you can do it.

"...and for what it's worth, I'll be pulling for you."

Micah (John) HP: 25/25 AC: 15/10/15 CMD:14
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 2:08:02 PM

Micah grasps his chin in thought as Stohp shares her vision for the Shields.

When K speaks, an idea occurs to him.

"Your vision, Stohp, with many merits. I am not sure, however, that we have enough of a foundation yet to initiate something so vast. Perhaps we should start small. Rather than develop a hierarchy and an organizational structure, we should break things down into specific responsibilities.

At times, we could have been more effective had one person been directing us all. Perhaps we should make that an ad hoc assignment.

Sometimes in the workshop where I grew up there would come an order that is too big and needed too quickly to be done by one individual. In such cases, we agreed upon an individual who is in charge of seeing that all those working on the project were coordinated and the parts and tasks fit together. We called such a person the Lead Smith. They are not the boss, but they do call the shots on that particular project. With that in mind what if we create the position of Lead Shield to have the responsibility for directing all of us in undertaking a specific complex task?

I propose Stohp be the Lead Shield on the first major task we identify.

Micah thinks a bit more before proceeding, "Unless something else arises. As K suggests, that task could be bringing Shredds to justice."

Martisan (John for Damarr) HP: 18/18 | AC: 17 | T:17 | FF:13 | CMD: 15
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 2:19:16 PM

Martisan instructs her quill to write in her notebook, Fresh meat. Beside that she marks a large check.

"We also need a spokesperson," chimes in Martisan after Micah finishes. "We seem to always flounder when someone needs to speak on behalf of the Shields. I nominate Handsome One and Handsome Two as our spokesmen, she points to first one paladin and then they other as she suggest this.

"Oh bother. Now we have multiple questions on the floor..," she mutters as poises her pen to
record the next decision.

Bartomus [(Rod) HP: 13/20 AC: 13 (11+2)]
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 3:45:34 PM

"I can agree with those choices - Lead on the next assignment is Strohp and the two paladins get to speak and smile for us all. I like that." Bartomus affirmed the issues raised and watched to see what the others did.

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 38/38 AC: 18 T: 10 FF: 17 CMD: 16 Party Treasury
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 5:11:54 PM

Zanderallen listens carefully to all the talk, responding to K's punch with a punch of his own, "Hey, for being a follower of a goddess of love you certainly play rough sometimes. But yeah, you probably will have a bad day ordering me to do something I don't agree with."

'Where would we be without Micah?', Zander thinks to himself after Micah weighs in.

"I vote yay for the position of Lead Shield, and I second Stohp taking that responsibility in tracking down Shredds, or whatever comes up next. I think that position will serve us better at the present time. If we end up growing into what Stohp paints we can organize further then. I will also gladly give my smile to be the face of the group at times."

K (Carl) HP: 25 AC:25/22/21 CMD:18
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 6:07:00 PM

"That's what they call a love tap, Zander," says K before he smiles for the first time all day.

Bobwise (Jerry)
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 6:59:32 PM

Bobwise gives a "high five" to Dorbin. "Yeah! We're in!"

He sits up straight. "I agree that our paladins can be head negotiators or spokespeople as long as they can couch their talk in terms of the adventuring group and not their particular religion. While I respect the faiths of anyone who has them, we are not a "Domi" group, so to speak. Am I making sense?

"We've got to keep working find OUR center as a group, because we all have differing goals and things we care about. Some here have their gods forefront in their lives. Others their heritage. Others their class and training. We can't force these varying ideals upon each other.

"This is me and what I believe in. This is my adventuring group and how my beliefs fit into that.

"When Dorbin and I decided to seek you out, it was because the perception from the outside is that you are good, you help people, and you are awesome! You [we] are one of the few bright points that exist on Fence Level.

"As far as combat is concerned, before we choose a leader for that realm of our adventuring, we need to talk "roles" within combat. What are our strengths? Who will be lead tank? Who will mind the flanks? I think some strategy talk for what role you want for me in combat is a good idea. We shouldn't decide everything as we still need to be flexible, but knowing who we can depend on in the fog of battle to do this and that will help us succeed against Shredds."

He pauses chagrined.

"Sorry, I knew if I opened my mouth too much would come out."

Big Room - Little Pants -Part 3 (DM Mstitt)
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 8:50:38 PM

Stohp congratulates the new members and makes her case for leadership. Dorbin contemplates the leader idea and wonders if Stohp is a bit too militaristic. "I just wanted to try and help people. I don't want to be an army."
K listens to Stohp’s speech but counters. Asking if Stohp wants the group to be the “law”. He advises that the group has many strong personalities and follows that up with a question about Stohp’s ability to be patient and level-headed. He advises she prove herself.
Micah advises they start smaller. He suggests an ad hoc leadership. He suggests Stohp be the first Lead Shield
Martisan notes everything then suggests they need a spokesperson.
Bart agrees and votes for Stohp
Zander listens and returns the punch. He tells K he plays rough and then agrees that an order would probably not go down well. He seconds the vote for Stohp
Bobwise celebrates with Dorbin. He agrees the paladins should be spokespeople. He then recommends they work out roles.
(OOC: I tried to summaries the conversation. Issues feel free to let me know.)
Oscar grabs K’s discarded plate and eats what is left. He then strolls into the kitchen.

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 15/12/12 CMB: +5 CMD: 14
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 10:04:39 PM

"Lead Shield works for me. It gives us flexibility later. I wasn't trying to say we should form an army and become a law unto ourselves, just that in the coming months or years I expect things to snowball. We've been at this a few weeks tops and things are already escalating, both the problems we face and the number of recruits we're getting."

Marking off "Leadership" from the list, Stohp looks at the next item "Shredds". "It looks like next on the agenda is Shredd's. We need to track him down and bring him in for justice, before he manages to hurt people in some ill-conceived revenge plot. Or maybe a well-conceived one, which would be worse. Thoughts/ideas/suggestions?'

K (Carl) HP: 25 AC:25/22/21 CMD:18
Thursday September 22nd, 2016 10:50:23 PM

K immediately speaks up. "I think we should take the 50 gold rewards some of us took from Shredd's folks and offer it as a reward for information that leads us to him. There's some...what's the word...irony there, don't you think?"

It's all the paladin can think of. Finding a rat skulking around The Fence wasn't something he had any good idea how to go about directly.

Bartomus [(Rod) HP: 13/20 AC: 13 (11+2)]
Friday September 23rd, 2016 12:10:54 AM

"I have an idea, I will be right back," Bartomus' face breaks out in a wide grin and he wanders off into the corridors and works his way back into the warehouse.

Bartomus [(Rod) HP: 13/20 AC: 13 (11+2)]
Friday September 23rd, 2016 12:13:34 AM

Bartomus wanders back, taking a bit of time to do so, to the kitchen. He walks in and knocks so as to get Oscar's attention.

"So, Oscar, want to make a bonus? We got 40 gold pieces that we can give for some good, solid, reliable and we can act upon it information on this guy Shredds. Way I see it, if we offered that to you, I suspect there are a lot of friends you might have who could help us pretty quickly and you would know who to give what portion to in the process. Interested?"

Micah (John) HP: 25/25 AC: 15/10/15 CMD:14
Friday September 23rd, 2016 1:26:56 PM

"I can think of at least two leads we should follow," adds Micah. "First, we should check on Maltheus. He does have some unorthodox means of knowing things and Shredds might be after him.

Second, Shredds did infiltrate the Hands. Perhaps some of their recovered flock knows something of use that Six or Catherine might be willing to share with us."

Dorbin [AC:13/13/10 HP:17/17 CMD:14]
Friday September 23rd, 2016 2:31:06 PM

Dorbin smiles as the idea of "Lead Shield" is established. He says, "I think I like that."

When the topic of Shredds comes up, he quietly speaks up and says, "Bobwise's family has a place that some people sometimes gather. I'm not sure I'd call it an inn, but sort of. We could go over there and see if anyone there knows anything, right Bobwise?"

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 38/38 AC: 18 T: 10 FF: 17 CMD: 16 Party Treasury
Friday September 23rd, 2016 4:21:12 PM

Zanderallen smiles around at the group, they were making some real progress. There would be growing pains but looking at his companions he pondered how quickly he'd come to like them. Almost as though some greater force had put them together. But that was enough philosophical thought, time to get back to business.

"I could check with the street children of the fence again. Having once been one of them I think they feel comfortable around me. After talking to them when we starting looking into the Hands I've been thinking about ways I could help them as a whole. Don't worry I'm not thinking of turning the warehouse into an orphanage but we'll see how it works out. As a first step I'll need to build relationships with the leaders, and in doing so I can also set up an information network. I'll also seem more genuine to them if I want something, trades are always best. Maltheus and the Hands also seem like good leads. Father Six seemed a sensible man, having a good relationship with him could help things in the future."

Bobwise (Jerry)
Friday September 23rd, 2016 8:38:27 PM

"So after this meeting should we head out to gather information? All go out all together? I heard that rule number one of adventuring is 'stay with the group.'"

He pauses reconsidering...

"Course I hear lots of things. And I still would like to hear some basic planning on what our roles will be in combat."

Lead Arises (DM Mstitt)
Friday September 23rd, 2016 10:48:34 PM

Stohp takes the reigns as Lead Shield. She marks off the “leadership” task and starts the next item, which would be “Shredds”.
K suggests taking 50 gold pieces and offering it as a reward for information.
Bart has an idea and leaves. He walks into the kitchen and catches the rat creature staring at a corner in the room.
Oscar scratches his long nose and looks down at his tiny feet. He maws a bit then agrees.
Bart only Sense Motive vs DC 12 Highlight to display spoiler: { Oscar seems a bit uncomfortable. It’s hard to tell if he is being dishonest but he is acting a bit weird.
Oscar then tries to slip by (Acrobatics:11) Bart but makes things a little more awkward by tripping over his feet.
Grapple vs AC 11 to stop him. If you care to do so.
}

Back in the front room Martisan suggests they check on Matheus and then talk to the Hands of Love.
Dorbin seems happy with Lead Shield then adds.
"Bobwise's family has a place that some people sometimes gather. I'm not sure I'd call it an inn, but sort of. We could go over there and see if anyone there knows anything, right Bobwise?"
Zander smiles and thinks they are making good progress. He offers to check with the street children having been one. He talks about helping the children and building good relationships.
Bobwise asks what they should do after the meeting.
(OOC: Unless there are objections I think we can start the next module Monday. Feel free to RP through the weekend.)

Bartomus [(Rod) HP: 13/20 AC: 13 (11+2)]  d20+2=15 ; d20+2=10 ;
Saturday September 24th, 2016 4:07:56 PM

"Hey, someone grab Oscar,"" Bartomus bellows as the ratkin stumbles past him and starts to scamber away. [i]Now that just went rather oddly,[/] the Taur shook his head as he turned to follow after their skitish butler. "Oscar, I think we need to have a candid conversation."

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 15/12/12 CMB: +5 CMD: 14
Sunday September 25th, 2016 9:58:06 AM

"We've split up before safely." Stohp tells Bobwise. "In the past we've gone in pairs and just made sure to retreat at the first sign of trouble. That way there's less chance of any of us being picked off."

Martisan (John for Damarr) HP: 18/18 | AC: 17 | T:17 | FF:13 | CMD: 15
Sunday September 25th, 2016 11:27:57 PM

Martisan writes in her book Run around in all directions--again and puts a big, bold check next to it.

"So, leader, What do we do?" she asks with a good-natured smirk, while ticking off options on her tiny fingers, "Visit Bobwise's family, check with the Hands, chase down Oscar, talk to Maltheus, revisit Zander's minuscule minions, distribute bribes. Hmmm. Did I leave anything out?"

K (Carl) HP: 25 AC:25/22/21 CMD:18
Monday September 26th, 2016 10:03:09 AM

K kicks back and waits for Stohp's response, curious to hear what she'll decide.

...then a thought occurs to him. "I'm not comfortable using the neighborhood kids for information on Shredds. This is a guy who kidnapped a 16 year old girl to get revenge on us, so he's already down with punishing kids. Let's not give him any more reason."

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 38/38 AC: 18 T: 10 FF: 17 CMD: 16 Party Treasury
Monday September 26th, 2016 11:27:14 AM

"That's a good point K. And as to splitting up, I'm a little more concerned about it at this point. Splitting in half may be alright, but pairs is a little exposed if Shredds still has some of those pajama wearing rogues with him. But I'll follow whatever the lead is here."

Dorbin [AC:13/13/10 HP:17/17 CMD:14]
Monday September 26th, 2016 11:55:54 AM
