Scene 2 - So, What’s in the Bags?

DM Mark - On the road agan?
Monday October 10th, 2016 12:49:50 PM

Humble’s Sword wakes refreshed. Well, all but Bliss who looks a little green. He seems to be moving rather slowly. He rides Mookie, but that brings new challenges for the tiny halfling.

Everyone prepare to head north, looking at the rough map that Graeff provided. Modes of transport are considered, speed, food, etc. (Please let me know what you are bringing, other than what you have on your backs/character sheets now. Also, I would like to have a marching order.)

As you go to leave, you can see there are a few there to send you off.

There are a couple of the dwarves from the Dancing Pig event last night. They smile broadly at Bliss, giving him the thumbs up. Even as they do this, a few peel off and start barking at the halfling “trainees.” Though their instruction seems a bit harsh, you note none of the previous halfling resentment of their dwarves instructors. Sense Motive 10: Highlight to display spoiler: {A trained eye will note that the dwarves seem to have modified their approach. They push the hafllings, but seem to know when to back off. Occasionally, the dwarves almost seem kind!}

The Burgomeister and Mayor Bumblebuck are there. The Burgomaster says, “Be careful, be quiet. Use your halfling strengths.” The dwarf Rockcracker says in response, “Nonsense! Yer all combat trained from what I hear, and one of you can drink with a dwarf! Graeff said to break up this giant organization. Take out what you can, and we’ll deal with any that get down here!” Mayor Bumblebuck shoots him a black look, “Don’t listen to him. Stay low, keep moving. We want you back in one piece. I do wish we didn’t have to put more of our folk in harm’s way. We halflings weren’t meant for this kind of thing.”

Also, as you go past, there is a group of halflings that step forward, looking at you with reverend awe usually reserved for great religious figures. All of them wear white shirts, and a couple of them carry an hourglass. They seem to want to touch one of you as you pass, and you hear low mutterings. “Time moves forward.” “Blessings from those without limits.” “Change to what must be.” Mayor Bumblebuck steps forward and shoos them off, “Ugh, go on. None of that here. Move on.”

Velesly is there as you pass the tower, which you can see is being rebuilt. “Good luck. We’ll hold things down here. The dwarves are helping me rebuild the tower. Jindrak is a great help as well!” The giant Jindrak waves.

----------------------------
You head north (need a marching order). You consult your map (Survival DC 10 to not get lost.)

By mid-day, Bliss is back to his old self.

As the sun begins to set, you can see some smoke in the distance. As you approach, you hear arguing. There are a few voices speaking giantish, Perception DC 15 to hear what is said if you speak giantish: Highlight to display spoiler: { “Stewin’ is the best - it gots more flavor dependin’ on what ya put in wid em.” “Yer an idiot Babog. When they’re little like this, you just roast em on a stick. That makes the skin all crispy. I like the crispy.” “No, no, no. We need to make em into a nice halfling loaf and put it in the coals. We can peel off their skin first and crisp it up separate if you want.” “Look, there’s a few - we can try different ways.” “Fuzwar, keep that fire going good - we’ll need good coals.”}

In addition, something quiet is approaching from behind you. It looks to be a halfling with a rather large wolf.

"Your marching order is fine with me, Pressi. As long as you and Bliss keep them away from me.". Shel doesn't pack anything extra, but she will try to cut up her elvish food and stuff it in Alleah's bag. She crackled with nervous energy, ready to head on this important mission with her friends.

Bliss (AC28, HP45of56) & Mookie (AC31, HP28of28) (Cayzle)
Tuesday October 11th, 2016 12:00:12 AM

Bliss is glad to see the giant working with halflings and waves to say hi and thanks.

He puffs up with pride when the dwarves refer to him so nicely.

To the town officials who counsel caution, Bliss says, "We don't fight when we're sure to die, usually, but we ARE heroes! Or at least, we want to be!"

"A gentle but firm hand. It is good to see that the dwarves have adapted to a method of teaching that works well with us halflings."

After passing the white shirts, and well out of earshot of them, Tendel asks the party, "Who are those lot? I can only guess that I am missing something? Did you sell them those fine white shirts? Ha!"

Further on Tendel exclaims that now he has seen it all as Bliss waves back to Jindrak.

The brown-clothed cleric rides a little awkwardly upon his jaguar, with his potted fern tucked under one arm, his shield held in the other.

Trying to not be imposing, Tendel has a look at the map and [18] is able to confirm the correct way forward.

Tendel can hear the Giants talking [24] and interprets, "Sounds like they have some halflings ready to cook. They're arguing over how and it seems like it won't be long because they have a cooking fire ready. I'd guess that there are three of them. Fuzwar and Babog are two names. Could be four of them."

Alleah smiles to Kezzem. "True, but since I don't need to sleep it means the rest of you can get a little more rest"

"Your order works for me as well, Pressi."

Alleah plans on walking, leaving her pony at home.

---------------------------------

She doesn't speak Giant naturally, so when Tendel relays what he has overheard, Alleah takes a moment to cast Comprehend Languages. If these giants say anything further she wants to know first-hand what it is.

Alleah taps Kezzem on the shoulder, and points to the halfling approaching the party from the rear. It could be they are about to be surrounded on both fronts.

Until the muscle or scouts give some direction on what to do, Alleah holds her ground

Pressi holds the map in all different directions for a time before passing it to someone who actually was trained in survival.

As she moves forward, she thinks a bit about their leaving. About how they finally got respect from the dwarves (sense motive 13) who believed they could take on the entire giant army. So did she, of course, but she understood the prize was getting as much information as they possibly could without tipping the enemy off. That's why, like Alleah, she decided to leave ponies and carts at home.

She also thought about the white T-shirt time guys. In response to Tendel's question, she considers mentioning the fact that some of the group had once gone back in time. Instead, she chose to respond that she had no idea who those guys were. "But we wouldn't be Humble's Ford if we didn't have unique citizenry."

--------------------

Pressi had initially considered sending Bliss for flybys every hour, even at the cost of speed. But with the sound of giants squabbling (Perception 28) and the sight of a halfling coming up the path, it seemed to be moot.

She decided to deal with the halfling and his wolf first, asking him to introduce himself but pretty sure he would inevitably be joining them.

That done, she turned toward the giants, considering Tendel's words. "The smart thing would be to avoid breaking our cover, wouldn't it. Darn it. Ok, first things first is that we need an idea of what we are dealing with. Bliss, I think you are up. Shel, want to go invisible and back him up? The rest of us will try to pinpoint and surround the giants."

Creeping up behind the party of halflings, assuming these are the ones Greaff told him to find. I can hear them almost as good as I can hear the giants talking... Solitude is horrible, but death isn't very inviting either...

Not trying to conceal himself from the halflings, or their very tiny friend, Sky gives a wave as he approaches the party. Sky's light brown hair is partially concealed by a wreath, matching the one the wolf adorns on his head as well. With tanned skin nearly as dark as the tunic he wears over some sort of armor. A large belt seems to have no actual use, but it's large enough to fit a dwarf or human for sure. The grey wolf has slightly dirty fur, probably due to them not living in any society for ages.

SO, your the ones sent out to spy on the giants ey? Graeff sent me, said it'd do me some good to be around others like me...

even if they are way to loud to be spies he thinks to himself, and Meko, who obviously snorts a bit.

Nice to meet ya, Names Sky, and this He gestures to his large Wolf, standing just as tall as he does, Meko, my brother and companion in this life...

From what i've overheard those giants speaking, their cooking some of your kin now. I think stealth and quickness are in order...Is there a plan?

Shel says the party order is fine, so long as Pressi and Bliss keep everyone off of her.

Bliss was glad to see Jindrak helping with the tower. He likes the appreciation from the dwarves. Wow. Elf friend and dwarf friend, all the span of one day.

As he left Humble’s Ford, Tendel wondered about those halflings in the white shirts speaking in reverend, cryptic verse. He was surprised to see a giant working to rebuild a tower designed to keep giants out. As the party approaches the loud giant voices, Tendel relates what they said - giants cooking of halflings.

Alleah casts Comprehend Languages to see if she can learn more about the giants and their plans.

As they left, Pressi was glad to see an improved relationship with the dwarves. She also wondered about the halflings that the Mayor shooed away, but chalks them up to the eccentricities of Humble’s Ford. She hears the giant voices, and lays out some plans for advancing on these giants.

A new halfling appears. He says Graeff sent him. There’s a wolf with him. With a hat, or rather a wreath. Onlap the jaguar by Tendel growls, and the wolf growls in response.

Kezzem ducks from sight into the bushes and begins to circle around this new comer.
______________
The giant voices continue, and seem to carry well from about 400 feet away.

Perception 15 to hear what is said if you speak giantish: Highlight to display spoiler: { “Shuddup Gloklor. Whaddo you know about cookin? Yer mom choked your dad wid her cookin.”

“Oooo, he got you there Gloklor.”

“Both of you shuddup. I’m hungry - let’s eat one raw first. It’s a different kinda juicy when they’re raw!”
}

You hear the sound of cloth being ripped, and someone starts screaming.

Here is your map. The party is way down at the bottome of this map, 370’ away from the smoke. You cannot see the giants from where you are, and will need to get about where those trees are to see them.

Here's the plan. I'm going to run as fast as I can, and I think maybe the animals should chase me, make it look like I'm lost. Everyone else should stay hidden in case I peel off a giant. They're not all going to come running; they have hostages. Get spells ready the second a target gets in range. And I'll take a fly spell or other way to retreat just in case.

One last thing. Take as many giants alive as you can. I'm working on something.

Wednesday October 12th, 2016 12:34:28 AM

"Pressi, that is a good plan. Let me summon a few animals to add to the effect."

Tendel will try to keep up with Pressi at first. He will use an action to be able to Speak with Animals, then (next round) summon a grizzly bear and tell it and Onalep to follow Pressi and attack with her. As they get nearer to the giants' voices Tendel and Onalep will remain out of sight for the moment. If there is enough time he can summon more animals.

Speak with Animals = domain power.
Summon grizzly bear = Summon Nature's Ally IV, domain spell.

"Working on something?" Alleah looks to Pressi with a smile. She's imagining Pressi opening up a Giant Zoo. Probably not what she is planning, but you never know.

She does have a few questions for the new halfling, but now is most certainly not the time for it.

"Whoever is out there with those giants is about to get ripped to shreds. We have to do something, even if just to distract or delay them. Every second we waste is another second someone gets closer to being eaten. And if we can see and hear them, then they can probably see and hear us too"

"I'm coming with you, Pressi. You may need help and what's more, it might help me get within spell range. Worst case, it makes me a target instead of whatever those giants are planning on eating, and I'm good with that. Two halfling girls shouldn't look too threatening, right?"

Alleah then takes off in a run, straight north. She throws her arms in the air, screaming as she does so "Help! Help!"

------------------------------------------
Alleah moves at 40ft and has the "Run" feat meaning she can travel 200ft in a round, and also retains her Dex bonus
She will also use her Agile Feet ability as a free action to ignore difficult terrain.

This should put Alleah at about AH70 on the map

Round 1: Bliss rolls a 09 and fails to cast a spell and moves 30 ft closer toward the trees (106-AM on the map), drawing his bah. Mookie keeps pace (landing at 105-AN).

Round 2: Bliss rolls a 39 and casts Enlarge Person on Mookie. He mounts. Mookie takes off and flies at 4x speed (run), getting 160 ft closer (73-AO on the map).

Round 3: Mookie flies up to a treetop (at about AP60). Bliss dismounts (Ride check 26 means this is a free action) and looks around (Perception 24). Then, hiding in plain sight (assuming there is enough shadowy areas in the tree 10 ft under the canopy) (Stealth 34 plus distance mod). Bliss loads his bah.

Round 1:
”Welcome Sky and Meko – no time to waste, come help us to rescue some friends.”
Tendel will quickly put Bill the Fern down and whilst still mounted on Onalep (move action, Dex check: 20, didn't break the pot?)
Then the pair will keep up with Alleah and Pressi (approx. 200’ with speed 50’ to around AK72). Whilst riding Tendel will activate his Speak with Animals (domain power).

Round 2:
Tendel will dismount and begin to summon a Grizzly Bear via his Summon Nature’s Ally IV spell whilst walking to AJ68.

Round 3:
The Grizzly will appear near to Alleah at AE64. Onalep will also follow the bear and the two halflings closely.
Tendel calls to all the allied animals, ”Follow Alleah and Pressi closely. Attack with them. Follow their lead.”
He will walk to AJ64 as he retrieves his Wand of Bless and activate for the benefit of everyone within 50’ of AJ64.

(After all, part of the ruse is to convince the giants they aren't trained adventurers coming down upon them. And it's not like even Alleah can get to the camp in one round.) (She does wonder, in times like this, whether she should have joined the WLA rather than the fist.) She can run for two rounds without rest.

(Pressi does try to get a haste from Shel if she can still get it, but she won't wait around.)

Round 1: Like Alleah, Pressi runs forward at full speed, while whining about animals and why why did they take that marinade bath. She spends a ki point to get to 140.

Round 2: She continues to close the distance, hoping to peel off a single curious giant. She won't break an aggression but she does take some time to scan the area.

Round 3: If possible, she moves to grapple a giant. CMB 12, no AoOs.

Humble’s sword contemplates how to approach the giants, but when they hear one of them propose to eat a halfling alive, they snap into action. They cannot see the giants, but they can hear them beyond the trees.

Over the next three rounds, Shel casts Fly and moves 60’. Then she casts Mirror Image and moves another 60’. Then she casts Haste on both her and Pressi and moves 90’

Alleah runs forward and screams like a damsel in distress, miraculously ignoring the brush and rough ground as she does so. Once she stops, she now sees the giant holding the halfling, and casts Calm Emotions.

Bliss takes off, with Mookie close behind. He tries to make Mookie larger, but fails and yells, “Grom!” Then he succeeds and charges forward on his trusty steed. He hops off Mookie, but soon realizes that the very edge of the tree branches are unsteady - even for his tiny self. Bliss needs to make an Acrobatics 25 check each round to avoid falling at the edge of the tree. Same check to move trunkward to more steady footing. He is about 15’ up. Trying to keep is balance, he can either hide or load his bah, but not both.

Kezzem moves forward, with a plan of sneaking up on them (I’m assuming he’ll move at full speed until close.)

Sky and Meko run forward, with Sky looking like he’s hunting from Meko’s back.

Tendel moves up with Onalep. As Onalep runs(round 1), Tenel must make a DC 16 concentration check to cast Speak with Animals. Then (round 2)he dismounts (move action) and moves 15’ (summoning a bear is a full round action.) The 3rd round, he stops to summon a bear, which will appear at the end of the round.
______________
The giants hear screaming. Their heads jerk up a the sound. Then they see things headed their way. A halfling hangs by his food, held up by a giant.

Perception 10 to hear in giantish: Highlight to display spoiler: {

”What the heck was that”
“Heh, it sounds like more food!”
“Mebbe it’s more giants chasing food.”
“Well, they can’t have our food! We caught these.”
“We are sposed to bring food back to the others.”
“The heck with the others! Dolp can send others for his food. I’m not no slave like an orc.”

As you Alleah and the animals come into sight, “I don’t like bears and cats. But I’ll eat the girls.”
“Hey - sumpthin’s in that tree. Where’d it go?”
}

As Alleah casts her spell, the Giant 2 holding the halfling drops it to the ground. It falls, not moving. Giant 2 takes a step back.

The other two giants pick up their clubs and throw rocks at the bear. One hits the bear for 15 damage.

"Animals, animals attacking us..." she began in common. "Please... mercy... I beg of you..." (Bluff 10).

The kindly DM can position Bliss, but maybe a spot such as AQ58 or AR58 might suffice. Then Bliss casts his Divine Favor spell (Ley check 42 = OK).

Mookie perches near AS61, flying high into the tree, hopefully with good cover from the giants, to keep watch as best he can. Perception 23.

Tendel moves forward and starts summoning another bear. He can sort-of see Giant 3 from where he is. The bear and the jaguar move up.

Alleah can see that Giant 2 seems untroubled by all of this. He looks puzzled, and shakes his head a bit. The halfling that he dropped on its head is not moving. There are two sacks near by, about 3’ long, that seem to be moving a bit. Alleah yells out what she sees to the others.

Pressi tries to convince them that she’s a victim in all of this. She begs for mercy.

Kezzem runs foward. (I moved you further - using the run action allows you to run 4 x your movement.)

Bliss manages to keep his balance on a branch about a ¼” in diameter, and moves like some crazy ninja to more secure footing and casts a spell. He has cover, but will fire at the giants at -2. Mookie backs up.

Sky moves forward stealthily. Meko moves forward aggressively, following Pressi.

Bliss shoots prone from his treetop hideout, sinking a painful needle into a, ahem, into a very sensitive part of Giant 3. Mookie looks at Bliss with both disapproval and admiration. “Nice shot kid, but next time, let’s keep it above the belt.”

Pressi again taunts the giant, and then runs up and punches the giant in the gut. While it didn’t have the stunning effect she wanted, now he’s plenty mad. Her movement provokes an AOO from the giant which misses.

Shel, or rather several Shels, cast several Magic Missiles that sink into the thigh of Giant 3, giving him yet another reason to howl in pain.

The Eagle casts Call Lightning, bringing a bolt down on Giant 3, and the Giant takes the full brunt of the shock. (Welcome back - spells are cast when first posted so you cast it this round. How far would this eagle descend in a single move action?)

Sky, seeing one giant bearing the brunt of the assult, adds to the mix - hitting Giant 3 for 11 damage. The giant seems to shiver as he does. Not to be left out, Meko attacks the Giant, sinking his teeth into the giant’s leg, but does not trip him.

With the giants now embroiled in a fight, Alleah ceases concentrating on her spell and moves up to get closer to the action. Kezzem likewise runs up.

As previously instructed, the Grizzley and Onlap move up with Pressi. The bear attacks, but does not hit. Onlap is more careful. Tendel watches to see how the fight goes.

The many faces of Shel fires off another Magic Missile at Giant 3 for 14 damage. It’s a bit dizzying to see her and all those images move.

Onlap pounces on Giant 3, provoking an AOO. The Giant strikes the great cat for 20 points of damage. The cat sinks it’s claws and teeth into the giant, ripping it open as it ges down. At the same one of the grizzly bears tears into the giant, ensuring it’s death. Both the cat and the bear are covered in gore.

Tendel sends the other bear forward, telling it to attack. The bear charges.

The eagle transforms into a dire bat, and lands near one of the moving bags, resting protectively over it. (The eagle realizes it is limited to forms in Bestiary 1 or 2.)

Bliss shoots again from his hidden perch, sinking a tiny bolt into Giant 2 for 7 damage.

Pressi calls out to keep the giants alive. Then she moves and cuts open one of the bags, releasing a confused halfling to blinks at him in surprise. She looks on with some trepidation as the eagle transforms into a great bat, landing on the other bag! (Dire bat is a large creature. I placed it to fit and not provoke an AOO.)

Alleah shouts out in alarm as the great bat lands on the bag. "The bat is going for the halflings!" Then she casts Hold Person on Giant 1.

Kezzem moves up, and cracks a joke. Though the giant does not understand, he seems to appreciate the humor and falls prone, laughing.

It might be sharing"]Murphy Eagle - Dire bat (call lightning 7 bolts left) AC 15  d12=4 ; d8+5=6 ; d8+5=12 ; d20+22=32 ;
Wednesday October 19th, 2016 4:34:02 PM

The dire bat (I adjusted the four-square filling to 5' to the north, as I was picturing in my mind that the other leg was near the still body) flaps its wings, gently tightens its grip on the wriggling screamer, wraps its other claw gently around the still halfling, and lifts up into the air, skirts the fire, flying low to the south, landing with halfling-in-a-bag at AC47, and still halfling at AD46. As he comes in to land, he allows for an extra flap of the wings so as to set down softly his burden, and his feet end up about a foot away from bag and body. He casts cure light wounds (1+5 rerolled, 7+5=12 hp) on the still halfling, hoping he is not dead.

He knows Alleah is near him, as she spoke about him a moment ago. He stands so that she can see the two lying there, and bobs his head toward her, then toward the halflings. She might do a better job opening the bag than he.

Info
7 lightning bolts available from call lightning, 78 rounds left

To DM: If you deem that he cannot take off, land, and cast a spell, then he did everything but that. I hope he was able to cast the spell, though.

The dire bat grabs and takes flight with the two halfling forms, moving south toward Alleah. As it gently lands, it turns to Alleah seeming to bob it’s head toward Alleah, and then toward the bagged halfling and the halfling body..

Tendel moves toward the held giant and ask if anyone can tie it up.

Kezzem moves up, throwing a dagger at the held giant 1. Since the giant’s AC is now 17, he hits, doing 14 damage to the helpless giant.

Shel shoots some Magic Missiles at giant 2, doing 16 points of damage.

Bliss, up in his arboreal hideout, fires another bolt at giant 2. However, the laughing giant is prone and Bliss misses.

Alleah tells Pressi she kept the held giant alive for her. Alleah has some reservations about the dire bat that now stands over the halflings, and readies an action should the creature attempt to fly away with them.

Pressi says to the halfling she released, "You see that really big scary bat that just grabbed your teammates? I want you to run to the nearby blond woman." Then she moves to and grapples giant 1.

Tendel tells Onlap and the grizzlys to follow Pressi and only attack is she attacks. Seeing Pressi grapple the giant, they attack it as well. Even though the giant is immobile, the two animals that can attack fail to pierce its hide (one bear was too far and made a double move.)

Giant 1 remains frozen, it’s eyes wide with fear as it is grappled and attacked by animals.

The halfling Pressi released stands, takes one look at the now angry giant, and retreats.

The halfling in the bag remains terrified, and you hear a small voice, “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home…” The poor, crumpled halfling body just lays there beneath the dire bat.

Sky asks what the the point is tying up a giant. Both Sky and Bliss shoot giant at about the same time, killing it. It falls with a tremendous thump!

Bliss tells Mookie they should fly in and attack.

Tendel calls off the attacking animals, instructing them to only attack on his command. The animals tell him they want to kill this thing, but reluctantly pull back. He warns the giant the animals will kill him if he moves.

Shel is ready to cast a Scorching Ray spell, but holds back when she sees it fall.

Pressi continues her grapple, and while she tries to tie up the creature, she finds she cannot. (Pressi also has the Grappled Condition - “grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform.”) She can, however, pull out her rope.

Kezzem move to flank with Pressi.

The dire bat seem to squeak and gesture, and casts a healing spell on the unconscious halfling. It’s wounds do seem to heal. (Ripping open the bag would be a standard action, not a move action.) The bat then steps back from the halflings.

Alleah was ready to defend against the dir bat, but determines that it is actually Murphy in bat form. She breathes a sigh of relief and lower her guard.

Round 12.

Murphy seems to know these halflings’ families, and remembers tales of some . He flies up into the sky to get a better view. As he does so, he can see his friends their animals, the halflings, the tied up giant, and the two dead giants. He does not see any other creatures yet though.

Bliss glides over the rescued halflings. He’s heard of these halflings’ families, and asks about what they referred to as the “white shirt guys.” Bliss tells them Humble’s Sword seeks a gathering of giants. He asks if these halflings are trained adventurers.

Shel welcomes Murphy back, and asks what he learned in his travels.

Kezzem points out to the halflings that it’s fortunate they’re not wearing red shirts. He gets some puzzled looks in resposne. (Sorry I missed that was non-lethal damage. Thanks.)

Sky continues to think that the dire bat is a bird. He asks for some healing for his wolf.

Tendel asks Pressi what should be done with the held and bound giant. He holds his animals at the ready, knowing the bears will soon be gone.

_____________________
Giant 1 remains standing stock still and tied up. That rope look a lot smaller when it’s tied to a giant. Everyone’s not sure how long it’d last. So far, the giant has not been able to test it. (Was this just one 50’ help rope?)

Giant 2 and 3 lie dead.

The halflings are grateful. They look to be little beyond their teen-age years.

In response to Bliss, Dino says, “The White Shirts? Don’t know much about ‘em, ‘cept that they worship you guys. They say you can control time! I visited Humble’s Ford, and they wanted me to join up. They asked if I knew anything about you all. Then they told me how awesome you are and how you should be revered. You guys are pretty cool.”

Gari adds,“Hey, can you guys really control time? They said you can go back in time and change the past. Can you do that? ‘Cause if you can, there are some things I did I’d sure like to undo - if you don’t mind.”

Dino responds, “Hey, we met Humble’s Sword! We could start our own group, and get those guys to follow us! We can tell ‘em we went back in time!”

They are also interested in checking out these downed giants.

“Oooo, look Hari! The giants aren’t a threat any more. Let’s go see!”
“Yeah, and they still got our stuff. Let’s see what else they have.”
“Hey, wait for me!”
“Ewww, they’re all gross and bloody. This is cool.”

All three of them run toward the dead giants.

Murphy Dire Bat (call lightning 7 bolts left) AC 15
Tuesday October 25th, 2016 11:49:42 AM

With what's going on down below, and not discerning anyone else in the area, Murphy decides to cut short his ascent. Instead, he uses a double move to descend to the ground, and momentarily wraps his wings around Pressi, uttering a happy chirrup. He does open up his wings, not wanting to smother her (and so she can talk without being muffled).

He takes out his wand of CLW to use on the injured ones, but they run off. Bliss follows, calling, "Hey! Hold on! Don't get too close!"

Mookie marvels. "Words of caution? Who took my Kid and left this cheap imposter in his place?"

Pressi hugs Murphy back, almost in tears. "I've missed you so much, too... But yeah, this is kind of uncomfortable."

She shoots an eye at the rope tied giant, suddenly wondering if 50 feet of hemp rope was enough. Then again, he had to know that attacking again was suicide; she was far more concerned that he'd run or otherwise get a chance to signal.

In response to Tendel, "My biggest hope is that we can convince him to take us into the giant camp personally. I will settle for some information on how they are handling security, whether anyone but giants are going, if he has some sort of token that indicates he belongs... oh, almost forgot."

Pressi takes the giant's weapons and throws them away.

"Of course, all of that depends on whether we can communicate, let alone if we can scare him or make a deal." She stares at the giant, speaking in a variety of languages: can you understand me?

Round 13

Murphy descends and gives Pressi a big bat hug!

Kezzem confirms the other halflings’ suspicions, telling them they can control time as demonstrated by the frozen giant. Bliss says they did try to go back in time once, but it didn’t work out. Then he calls to the halflings to come back, but stays 50’ from the giant, ready to shoot.

Pressi hugs Murphy in return, and makes sure the held giant is disarmed as she lays out her plan to Tendel.

Shel laments not being able to speak giantish. Tendel tells Shel he has a solution, and steps forward touching the wand to the giant. Regrettably, Comprehend Languages cannot be cast on someone else so it has no effect.

Sky isn’t sure about going into the giants’ encampment posing as prisoners. He does, however, speak giantish, and says, “Hey! Big guy, what can you tell us about the big camp huh? Anything else there besides your kind? Any idea of how many?”.

Alleah admonishes the halflings to only take back what the Giants took from them. she tells them other things may be cursed or trapped, (or the property of Humble's Sword.) Then she castes Detect Thoughts, ready to read the giant’s mind.

(Thanks for the correction on the damage for the animals - it’s correct below.)

He wears his customary coveralls, and a haversack, from which he withdraws a 50' silk rope, which he holds out for someone to take, as he speaks quickly.

"Great to be back! Pressi, Kezzem, please add this rope to wrap his legs."

In the giant tongue, he says boldly, "Gloklor, soon my friend will take off her magic from you. If you try hurt us, we kill you, as we made dead Fuzwar and Babog. Stand still and answer our questions, maybe you live."

Round 14

Murphy returns to his form, greets his friends, and give some rope to Pressi. He speaks to the giant, warning him not to hurt anyone and letting him know that if he stands still and answers questions, he may yet live.

As Pressi begins to look for more rope, she sees the Murphy offers and secures the giant a bit more. As she does so, the new halflings make her uncomfortable with their hero worship.

Bliss greets Murphy, while Mookie flies over to the dead giants to look for treasure.

Tendel now formally greets Murphy and Sky. He stays ready to have his animals attack. (I’ll rely on you to track the bears’ durations.)

Shel also remains ready to attack as she welcomes Murphy back.

Once Pressi secures the rope, Alleah releases her hold spell on the giant, warning others as she does so.

Sky greets the others. Then he warns the giant to answer their questions.

As the giant speaks the common tongue, Murphy says in common, "You were about to eat our friends, Gloklor. So, do you think we like you at all? Murderer. Cannibal." Murphy adds, "I could fill your lousy gullet with several of these." He invokes another 30 foot tall column of lightning to strike about five feet to the north of the giant's head while avoiding his shoulder - perhaps close enough for him to feel a tingle along the ground. Murphy greets the others. Then he goes from congenial to very angry, threatening him with lightning bolts and bringing one down near the giants head! Sky also threatens the giant, and asks him “Where's ya big camp, how many more giants and anything other than giants in the camp?”

As the giant falls in Kezzem’s direction, he avoids the creature with ease. He thanks Murphy for his concern for Kezzem’s safety.

Tendel dismisses the bears, and translates what the giant said for all there.

Shel leaves the questioning to the others, and casts detect magic while he keeps his eye on these new halfling to make sure they don’t take any of the treasure that is rightfully Humble’s Sword’s loot. Shel a bit of magic, but later learns that was just the spell on Mookie.

Pressi likewise leaves the giant questioning to the others, and is dismayed that these halflings want treasure. She takes the golden skull away from them. Then she asks, “If I might ask, where were you headed when you got ambushed? Who were you scouting for? Where do you think you will go from here?"

Having moved up earlier, Alleah positions herself to use Detect Thoughts to isolate the giants thoughts. She detects that he as thoughts, but not very many really. Bliss calls out to the prone giant from a distance.

Mookie keeps an eye on these young halflings. They seem to only be taking what’s theirs, but it’s difficult to tell if they’re hiding something or just nervous around a big talking bird. (I’m pretty sure Mookie gets a +4 on his Sense Motive, not +8.)
------------------------------------
The giant Gloklor looks a bit dazed from the fall. While he wasn’t aiming for Kezzem, that would have at least cushioned his fall a bit. He blinks in the dust he created, and the ropes creak as he pushes against them again to no avail. He sighs, and then he speaks in giantish Highlight to display spoiler: {, “Let Gloklor go. The halflings seem a bit disappointed with Shel and Pressi’s intervention, but their disappointment is short lived. They become very helpful.

“No, we weren’t taking your stuff, now way. We’ll gather it for you. But we need our gear to get back.”
“Nice birdie,”
says Hari as he looks warily at Mookie.
“Go back Hari? No way - we’re going with Humble’s Sword to help!”

"Pressi, these three are obviously skilled. Maybe we could get them to do important stuff for us. You know we always need messages delivered. Like we could send them back to Angel Springs to deliver a message and they could wait there until we summon them again. They could tell all the White Shirts how we have drafted them into the team."

She turns to the three halflings. "We have powerful magic and can communicate to you with our spells. Your job is to stay there until we call for you.". She hands them her Warddstone necklace. "Here. Take this. People have seen me wearing it. They'll know you are important to us if you have it. I'll want it back when we contact you again."

Maybe this will keep the boys occupied and safe until we can deal with all the Giants.

Lots of giants, stone giants..... Hmmm. You have goblin slaves? Orcs? Any animals in the valley? Where does Dolp plan to go? This Sky fellow, according to Tendel, seems to be doing a good job of questioning. He hears what Alleah says. "If he will not reform, or bend to our will, then we may need to end him. Not my preference, but he appears quite evil. I trust him as far as I can throw him at the moment."

He steps back, and goes over to the formerly bagged halflings.

"Hello Dino, Hari, Gari. Hari - didn't I see you in Winwood Toys and Music over in Crescent Valley before? That's my family's shop. Very glad that none of you actually became snacks for these lunkheads. I agree with my friend, Shel, here - but with one modification. First swing by Humble's Ford, where things are being coordinated, and let Mayor Bumbleluck and the town constable know what happened here. They may have you talk with a few others. Then go to Angel Springs to await further word, as Shel has directed."

He takes out some paper, writes three notes, one of which bears the initials 'B.B'; one with 'M.M' - these two he shows first to the two women who are focused on the rescues, then seals each with wax. The third note he gives to the lads, which reads:
To whom it may concern:
Garivald Galbassi, Heribald Burrows, and Dinodas Langham, though captured by giants, showed great fortitude in the face of adversity, and we wish them well. --Murphy Leafwin Pipewood, with Humble's Sword
The wax-sealed letter with 'B.B' he asks them to deliver to the Mayor of Humble's Ford when they arrive. "Now, you know the only one who should open a letter which is sealed in wax, do you not?" The letter with 'M.M' he tells them to deliver to the new Lord Mayor of Angel Springs.

He does keep an ear open to hear what the giant says. Giants are generally not quiet in conversation. Murphy does cast detect magic on the golden skull Pressi bears, and lets her know what he discerns.

"Oh, yeah, there's no way we can let him just go alive," Pressi agrees with Murphy and Alleah (in halfling). "Evil nature aside, he's a security risk. He has to come with us, go with team Wackadoo back to Humble's Ford, or... I feel confident, however, that we can still persuade, bribe or threaten him into coming with us and helping us get into the camp."

Pressi sighed. "And if not, I've made a decision to fight him one on one. We'll release him, give him back his weapon, give him a fighting chance. It was my decision to capture him in the first place, so it has to be me that takes him down."

Pressi takes the golden skull away from the new comers, and examines it. To the best of her knowledge, it is the skull of a medium creature that has been coated with a thick layer of gold. Then she asks these new halflings what they can do.

Shel notes that they are clearly skilled, and could do important things like deliver messages. Then she takes out her Wardstone necklace, instructing them to return with it to Angel Springs.

Tendel translates what is said in giantish. He senses that this giant sincerely wants to just get away, and is willing to pin any blame on the other giants.

Alleah says “Even tied up he's picturing eating us. If he doesn't agree to reform his ways, we can't release him." She continues to concentrate on the giant’s thoughts.

Sky, in the giant’s tongue, asks questions about the giants’ encampment and organization. He tells the giant he will be let go if he cooperates, and will die if he lies.

Murphy instructs these halflings to take messages to Humble’s Ford and then to Angel Springs. Then he takes out some paper and ink. (To keep pace with everyone else, he has not penned the messages yet.)

Pressi says there is no way he can be left alive. She says he must go with the party, or return with the other halflings to Humble’s Ford. If he will not agree, then she will honorably fight this giant alone.

Onalep and Meko lick their wounds.
------------------------------------
The giant Gloklor lays there in the ground. He pauses for a moment, staring up at the sky. He seems to be thinking which seems to require some effort. He strains against his bonds, but the ropes hold fast.

He eventually replies in giantish, “Goblins and orcs is slaves, yah. They smells bad and tastes bad. Animals? We likes to eat animals. Dolp? Dolp in charge - don’t go nowhere. Jus sit in cave as more giants come. Stupid stone giants in cave too. Food not even good there, so we comes out here.”

“Gloklor just wants to go. No kill Gloklor. Glokolor glad to have new little friends, but wants to go. You let Gloklor go? Gloklor not hurts or do bad. Gloklor good. Gloklor good.”

Alleah can read his thoughts: Highlight to display spoiler: { Stupid Dolp. He should go eat the hobbits (giantish for halflings) in their valley. Why does he wait? I wish goblins tasted good like hobbits and elves and humans. Goblins are much easier to get. Animals taste good.

I just want to go. But how to get out of here alive? Have to think! Have to think! Hate having to think! Thinking is the worst! Stupid hobbits making him think! Jhontua made him think. Hated her. Glad she’s dead. She never liked me, or my family. She was pretty, but she was bad. She made everything bad.

I like running.
}

Meanwhile, over by the dead giants, the other halflings respond to Pressi, Shel and Murphy.

“We can do all kinds of things. We’re quiet and sneaky.”
“Super sneaky. And we can fight!”
“Well, we’re learning to fight.”
“But we’re good with our slings!”
“Messengers? Being a messenger isn’t important.”
“C’mon, let’s take their messages back to the Crescent Valley. We’ll be famous!”
“But we came out here to be rich too. These giants got gold. We can’t just go back now.”
“Sure we can. I bet those White Shirts got money. We can charge ‘em for stories of Humble’s Sword, and how they moved around these giants by popping in and out of time and stuff.”
“What does being messengers pay?”
“Can we have the skull?”

"Lads, give us a few minutes to think things through, here, and we will give you an answer," he says, as he continues to write.

To Murphy and others, "Perhaps I was a bit over hasty, but I do feel somewhat responsible and, yeah, there is a little bit of making sure he has some honor if that's what he wants. Although, if all he wants is to run and eat... Maybe we don't have to kill him."

If the rest of the group is okay with the giant coming with them, Pressi asks someone to translate. "Oh great and wonderous giant. We wish only to see the great camp with our own eyes. Sky expresses some concern about the number of giants and other creatures in this encampment Gloklor mentions.

Bliss thinks 20 giants should not be a problem. He suggests sending the halflings back separately to send convey what is discovered.

Kezzem says that gnomes are one of the two things that scare him, due to their small hands.

Murphy, as he works on the messages he intends to send, objects to Pressi facing this giant alone. He suggests that two halflings should face the giant to ensure victory. Then he offers to heal the injured Onalep.

Alleak asks Kezzem what the second thing is that scares him. Turning her attention to the giant, she says that offering him a fight against one or two is not much different in the long run. Instead, she offers to put the giant to sleep before killing him.

Shel suggests letting him go is an option, but will go with with the others decide.

Pressi says that the goal is a stealthy infiltration of the camp. Or explosions. She proposes some options with the giant, and suggests taking the new halflings with them. She tells the halflings as much, asking how it was they were captured by the giants.

Tendel is opposed to executing the giant, and thinks he may be of use in approaching this giant encampment. He begins healing Onalep.

The wolf Meko continues to lick his wounds.
--------------------------------------------------
The halflings reply,
“Send us back separately? No way - we stick together.”
“Yeah, we stick together.”
“Yeah….but, would the person who stays longer get more gold?”
“HEY!”
“Look, you’re not sending that giant with us - no way!”
“Nope, we not travelling with no giant.”
“And we’re not going to where there are 20 giants, that’s for sure!”
“No way!”
“Well, what’s it pay?”
"How'd we get captured? Look at them - they're giants!"
"Yeah - they run faster than us and caught us."
"Well, they caught you. I came back to help."
"Ooooo, you did not. You were just as scared."

The giant continues to strain against his bonds, and finally the ropes snap! He sits upright amidst the discussion amoung Humbles Sword, looking warily at them.

In giantish (translated by Tendel), “Ugh. Gloklor helped. Gloklor answered questions. Halfling friends made Gloklor think and now Gloklor leave. Gloklor want club back - gimme club!”

“AHHHHH.”

“ITS LOOSE! WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!”
“HEY, GET OUTTA MY WAY!”
“QUICK - HIDE!”

Murphy puts away his writing for the moment. He’s good with ending the giant now, and isn’t too sure about these new halflings. He admonishes the giant for breaking his rope and pulls out a tanglefoot bag.

Alleah reaches out to a ley line, and in doing so pulls out a lullaby woven of Woldsblood that puts the giant to sleep. He again falls back again with a dust raising thump. Then she informs the others of his dark thoughts.

Bliss is also in favor putting an end to this giant.

Kezzem wonders if Alleah can just curse the giant with indigestion whenever he eats someone. Then he readies to kill the beast.

Pressi steps over and reluctantly ends the sleeping giant. None too happy about this, she vents her anger on these undisciplined adventurer-wannabes. She tells them they’d likely just get themselves killed along with Humble’s Ford. She doesn’t really care what they do, but tells them to just go home.

Murphy adds a lightning bolt to the mix. Sky attacks.

So too does Tendel reluctantly contributes to the giant’s quick end. Then he tends to the injured wolf, who gives a grateful howl.

Shel adds a Magic Missile to ensure the giant’s demise.

-------------------------------
The giant was put to sleep by alleah, and then dispatched with dispatch by several there.

It’s also clear that Humble’s Sword has had about enough of these halflings.

“Great Dino, you went and made ‘em mad. Now they hate us.”
“Well Hari, if you’d buck up some mebbe they’d respect us more. I noticed you were the first to run!”
“You and Gari both ran for cover too.”
“Hey, leave me out of this. A giant that tried to eat us was getting up! Of course I ran.”
“So, we don’t get any gold out of this? Darn. What if we run your messages back like you asked?”
“Yeah, I’ve had about enough of giants for a while.”
“I guess we got a ways to go before we’re adventurers. We’re sorry.”
“Yeah, we’re sorry.”
“Hey, I didn’t find all my stuff. Can we check that giant too?”
“Yeah, me too.”
“Oooo, it’ll be dark soon.”
“Um, can we camp with you guys tonight?”

Checking the giants, you find that each of the three giants carried 30 GP, 50 SP, and 100 CP. One of them had a gold-covered skull worth 100 GP. They all wore some stinky hide armor, had a club and carried a bag of rocks. There is also some mismatched and patched halfling gear, including leather armor, two short swords, three daggers, and three slings. None of the treasure or gear detects as magic. There are three small purses with a total of 40 CP, and some backpacks with bedrolls and food.

These halflings and some of their gear is a bit messy at this point. After digging through the loot, some of Humble’s Sword are messy as well. “Icky!” say the young halflings.

The orange light begins to fade from the sky. It will soon be nightfall. There is a strong smell of blood and gore in the area - the animals did a number on one of the giants, and the other two are a mess as well. It occurs to you that you can smell this, so can other things….

Murphy sighs. Three halflings saved, three giants downed. He does not like to kill, but war is looming. He offers thanks heavenward that all his friends and acquaintances are alive, and their enemies not.

"I do not feel good about this execution, but think it was the right thing to do. Thank you, all."

He says, "There's a fair bit of gore here, on some of us, and on the gear. Gather close - I'll send down several showers of water to help clean us up. I have some soap here," which he breaks up into hand-sized cakes, and gives them to who wants them. "If any are thirsty, hold out a mug, and you'll get good water in it. If you want to get things clean without water, then you're on your own." After taking a minute or two to gather gear and willing participants on a rocky spot, he creates water some 30' in the air, several times, until people and gear are clean enough.

"Friends, let's do this," Murphy says so all can hear. "Hari, Gari and Dino set forth to help scout for the valley. For, let us say, mixed reasons. But they did go forth with some boldness. Yes, they found trouble, too.

"So, you want to stay with us overnight?" Murphy asks with a bit of a smirk. "Two conditions: First: You will work under my tutelage tonight, and that of my friends. And, second: In the morning, you will carry out whatever we ask.* If you do not agree, then you may go now. If you do agree, then I have work for you, starting now."

He speaks privately with a few of his friends suggesting, if the three largely comply, each be given 10gp, 10sp, and 10cp (out of the 90gp/leaving 60gp, 150sp/120, and 140cp/110). He would prefer one of his friends mention this in the morning, if members of the Sword agree.

"Meanwhile, we cannot stay here. If any are yet wounded, let us heal you now, then we head north a ways, and find a safe spot off the trail. Bliss, Mookie, can you scout a good camping spot ahead before darkness sets in?"

* [If the lads agree, then Murphy will run them through all the campsite preparation tasks he often does himself: Gathering firewood. Digging a privy pit, 3' deep. Laying trip lines and bell alerts at various points. Caring for animals. Preparing food. He works them hard. If that is not enough work, he has them gather rocks and create a rock pile off to one side of the camp. Also, each one will stand a different night watch with regular members of the group.]

[Fixing header, and one more thing]

As the group moves, Murphy takes time with the group and several individuals to catch up on the news, asking myriad questions about what he missed, and letting them know what he went through, as well as getting to know the new members, and the trio.

"Don't feel too bad for him, Murph," says Kezzem. "There's only so much you can do for people that don't understand that eating other people is bad."

Pressi shook her head. "And there we have it. All of us agreeing together to kill a captured and arguably incapacitated foe. I won't speak to the rightness or wrongness of it, but Cameron can never know. He'd have a field day with this."

Pressi hands the halflings what she judges to be their gear (the halfling gear, the small purses, and all the backpacks that don't appear to be comically huge). "Well, I suppose that they can stay the night at least. And who knows, they might still surprise us." It's fairly easy to watch her fall back to following Murphy some, being a little jealous and a little relieved at not having to make the various decisions. She takes the time to fill Murphy in on what happened, and formally introduces Murphy to Tendel and Sky.

At a later time, during travel, Pressi begins to relax the mask, showing Murphy that she is glad to have him back. She also tries to engage each of the halflings separately, attempting to evaluate their skills, alignment, temperament - whether any of them actually have potential.

Bliss looks at the three young halflings who cannot seem to shut up. "You're silly." he says.

"And that's saying something," adds Mookie, "coming from the Kid!!"

Bliss looks at the corpses and thinks about saying a prayer for the dead. Then he decides not to. "That's not my job any more," says the witch who has no allied immortal power.

Then Murphy suggests that they look for a camp. "Good idea, Mister Murphy," says Bliss. He casts a Message cantrip to let him talk with Mookie. "You go high, old pal, and I'll go low!"

Bliss ranges out stealthily, up to about a mile ahead, circling around to find a good campsite or any trace of other giants. Mookie flies above and behind, within Message range. "I'll be back in an hour," Bliss says.

Alleah nods her head. The deed was done. She says a prayer for the giants that have died today that they might find peace in the afterlife.

Once done, she takes out her dagger and collects a small token from the fallen giants: some fingernail clippings.

Finally she goes to work with castings of Prestidigitation and Clean Blood to tidy everyone up.

Since Bliss won't be back for an hour, Alleah then sets to the hard work. She gets her shovel from her kit and casts Enlarge Person on herself, and sets to digging 3 large holes: graves for the giants. If anyone else wishes to help, Alleah will cast Enlarge Person on them as well.

Shel usually was in favor of most of Alleah's decisions, but she wasn't going to dig a grave for a nasty giant that still wanted to eat her even as they were forced to kill it. She favored letting them lie there and feed some of the animals in the area, but she didn't mind the graves being dug.

"So Murphy, what did you find out there? How do things look for us good guys?"

Pressi, sighing, agrees to help Alleah. It's a bit atypical even by Domi standards, but Pressi's decision to try and capture a live giant clearly continues to weigh on her.

Murphy shovels, too. He uses one expeditious excavation spell to get a 5'x5'x5' hole started. Then he wild shapes into an earth elemental, and really goes to town with the burial detail. He tells people what he is going to do before he does it, so that they are not too taken aback.

DM Mark - What Now?
Thursday November 3rd, 2016 12:47:31 AM

The death of the sleeping, homicidal giant weighs heavily on the minds of many.

Kezzem says not to feel too bad, cause, well, he ate people. Pressi says no one can ever speak of this to Cameron.

Murphy offers cold showers for all, which is met with silence and nervous looks. Then he offers for these new halflings to camp for the night, provided: "Two conditions: First: You will work under my tutelage tonight, and that of my friends. And, second: In the morning, you will carry out whatever we ask.* If you do not agree, then you may go now. If you do agree, then I have work for you, starting now.” He proceeds to show them how to set up camp and dig a latrine. He also lobbies his friends to provide them some of the giants’ gold.

Pressi is OK with them staying the night, and seems glad to have Murphy back.

Alleah offers to clean folks up with Prestidigitation. These new halflings are quick to take her offer over Murphy's cold showers. They are also eager to be Enlarged, so they're willing to help dig the graves. Pressi will help dig too. Murphy, both with an Expeditious Excavation and in the form of an Earth Elemental are a big help. It quickly becomes apparent that this would have taken several hours with just shovels.

“Wow, look at us! We’re big! We’re, like, … Wholelings!”

Shel wants nothing to do with digging graves for giants. She asks Murphy what he saw when he was away.

Bliss and Mookie move off to scout a place to camp. He sees nothing out of the ordinary. In short order, he finds a decent hollow screened by some brush on one side and not far from a water source. By time Bliss and Mookie return, it’s getting dark and people are about done with the graves. The low light vision of halflings serves all of you well.

Eventually, you will reach the campsite. The new halflings are tired from digging, but agree to what Murphy asks. They have some questions of their own.

“Why do we have to dig a latrine? We’re only here for one night.”
“Yeah, we can just pee wherever, and I can just bury my own poop. Or leave it in the woods.”
“Yup. That’s what bears do. That’s probably what that wolf does. Hey, do you make that wolf poop in this hole?”
“Ewww, don’t talk about poop.”
“Hey, it wasn’t my idea to dig a big poop hole.”
“Do you guys always do this when you camp?”
“I do not want to have to be the one to fill it in come morning. Yuck”
“Ugh, me either.”

Please provide a watch schedule for this and future outdoor stays.

The night passes without incident. You wake in the morning, breakfast, break camp. Everyone is packed and ready to go. These three halflings are looking at you for instruction.

Satisfied that the giants are now buried, Alleah gives a nod of approval. "It wasn't so much for the giants as it was for us. We don't want any other giants to come looking for them and find them... easily. This might help buy us some time from a search party"

Alleah settles in for a quick rest before her turn on watch.

Watch list updated on the wiki:

*20:00 - 22:00 : Tendel, Murphy, Sky, Meko
*22:00 - 01:00 : Kezzem, Shel, Alleah
*01:00 - 04:00 : Pressi, Alleah
*04:00 - 07:00 : Bliss, Mookie, Alleah

Tendel, Murphy and Sky each require 8 hrs rest + 1 additional hour for spell recovery = 9hrs rest total
Alleah only requires 1 hour to recover spells, then uses a Calming Touch to remove all fatigue, thus no sleep needed.
Everyone else needs 8 hrs rest

If Sky doesn't mind, Meko could help cover the 3rd watch, giving us 3 sets of eyes and ears on every watch

Murphy nods at Kezzem's wisdom; laughs at the young halflings' exultation at largeness; and responds generally in an appropriate fashion to others' actions and interactions.

Concerning the complaints: "We dig a waste pit for a few reasons. One, it is cleaner and healthier than having people go all over the place," Murphy explains to the trio. "Two, it is a tiny bit harder to track us if we bury the waste. Three, we are not animals, we are people. Four, as long as it's not where we walk, or eat, or sleep, I don't too much care where you pee, unless you are indiscreet. Five, the agreement was you do everything we ask you to. Do you keep your word? Six, though I should make you use your noses to cover it in the morning for all your grumbling, if you dig it without further complaint, I will cover it in the morning -- using a shovel. You will take down the trip lines and alarm bells. Last, I don't want to talk about poop any more. If you want to, take it up with Bliss."

Though accustomed to and preferring last watch, Murphy decides to give first watch a try - especially since he will be able to get to know the newest members of the party a bit better. He takes advantage of that as circumstances allow, filling them in a little here and there as to how Humble's Sword first got started, and asking questions about their backgrounds.

"Shel, I'll fill you in a bit more as we travel tomorrow, but the Yoke of Culver are a rather insular group. They don't much care that the giants are a threat to the halflings, and figure we brought the trouble on ourselves. They see Marteaus' hand in it, and don't want to get involved.

"I mentioned to them that the giants may use the Culverwood as one channel of attack on Crescent Valley, and simply encouraged the Yoke to discourage the giants if that happens."

In the morning, he asks the counsel of his friends concerning the three. And he tells Dino, Hari and Gari: "Whether you go with us or return by way of Humble's Ford to Angel Springs is up to my friends at this point, and up to you. Only if all three of you agree to come, and only after my friends warn you of the dangers of doing so, and your responsibilities if you do, will going with us be possible. I have messages written and sealed."

"I'll be back in a minute or two: I left Bill back there about half a mile, haha!. Join me for a walk if you like, though you young 'uns have work to do if you want to stay under our protection."

The older brown robed walks alongside his jaguar back the way they came, and return a few minutes later with a potted fern tucked under one arm. "I am hoping to find a new home for Bill. This looks like it might have been a nice spot but I don't fancy conjuring these memories again everytime I come to visit."

OOC: Thanks for the spellcasting consideration.
Onalep can also lend his eyes to a watch rotation, and I can leave him with instructions via Speak with Animals.

When the group convened to discuss the three new additions, Shel was against them accompanying the party. "It's a terrible idea. These are nothing more than kids. They have no skills to help the group. We'd just be leading them to their deaths. Let's send them on some simple task so they can have a story to tell the town."

(While I will continue the halfling conversation as long as you wish, I encourage you to resolve things with them. Do you wish them to stay, and what do you send them with if they go? They are not at your level, and the giants scare them. They are, however, now proficient at digging a latrine.)

We send them to attack the camp from the north. Then when we hear their screams and lots of giants laughing, we can take them from the south."

Pressi shook her head. "If any of them just spoke up with some signal of that hunger, I probably would let them stick around. But they're... I agree that we should just send them on their way."

On watch he doesn't say much either, he sets back, listening to Humbles Sword stories and the wisdom of Tendel. Meko has no problems helping on another watch.

" Send them on their way, they talk way to much to be any sort of sneaky."

Ooc: sorry for yesterday, it was unusually eventful....

DM Mark - What Now?
Friday November 4th, 2016 1:53:21 AM

Alleah explains the reason for burying the giants.
Murphy explains the reason for digging a latrine.
Tendel explains the reason he carries a fern.

The young halflings exchange some sidelong glances, but remain silent.

Murphy tells Shel what he learned from the Yoke of Culver. In the morning, he instructs the young halflings in breaking camp. He also opens the discussion on these halflings - should they stay or should they go now? Wanting to avoid a Clash on this, he says it will be up to these halflings and up to Humble’s Sword.

Shel thinks that bringing them along is a terrible idea, and wants to send them back to town. Alleah agrees, as does Bliss.

Pressi considers using them as a decoy with the giants. This generates some shocked looks from Humble’s Sword, and some very frightened looks from these youngs halflings. But she reluctantly agrees that they are not ready for the adventuring life and should go back.

Kezzem notes their inability to take things seriously. Kezzim has found his tribe.

“OK, we’ll go. We’ve kinda had enough of giants for now.”
“But we are brave! We can make it back on our own.”
“And now we know how to dig a … what did you call it …. a latrine?”
“Sure, we’ll make sure your messages get to the right folks. But usually a messenger is paid…”
“Cmon Dino, they saved our lives!”
“Hey, a guy’s gotta eat.”
“Yeah, and looking at these guys, I think we need to buy better gear.”
“And a talking bird. We totally need a talking bird. That’s cool.”
